And Saul chooses for himself three thousand men of the men of Israel: and there were with Saul two thousand who were in Machmas, and in mount Bæthel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gabaa of Benjamin: and he sent the rest of the people every man to his tent.

И избра́ себѣ́ Сау́лъ три́ ты́сящы муже́й от муже́й Ізра́илевыхъ, и бы́ша съ Сау́ломъ двѣ́ ты́сящы въ Махма́сѣ и въ горѣ́ Веѳи́ли, и ты́сяща бѣ́ша со Іонаѳа́номъ въ гаваи́ Веніамі́новѣ: и оста́нокъ люді́й отпусти́ коєго́ждо во своя́ селе́нія.

And Jonathan smote Nasib the Philistine that dwelt in the hill; and the Philistines hear of it, and Saul sounds the trumpet through all the land, saying, The servants have despised us.

И порази́ Іонаѳа́нъ насі́ва иноплеме́нника и́же въ хо́лмѣ. И услы́шаша иноплеме́нницы, и Сау́лъ воструби́ трубо́ю во всю́ зе́млю, глаго́ля: отверго́шася раби́.

And all Israel heard say, Saul has smitten Nasib the Philistine; now Israel had been put to shame before the Philistines; and the children of Israel went up after Saul in Galgala.

И слы́ша ве́сь Ізра́иль глаго́лющихъ, я́ко порази́ Сау́лъ насі́ва иноплеме́нника, и омерзѣ́ Ізра́иль во иноплеме́нницѣхъ. И собра́шася лю́діє вслѣ́дъ Сау́ла въ Галга́лѣхъ.

And the Philistines gather together to war with Israel; and then come up against Israel thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand by the seashore for multitude: and they come up, and encamp in Machmas, opposite Bæthoron southward.

И иноплеме́нницы собра́шася на бра́нь на Ізра́иля: и пріидо́ша на Ізра́иля три́десять ты́сящъ колесни́цъ и ше́сть ты́сящъ ко́нникъ и мно́жество люді́й, я́ко песо́къ и́же при мо́ри: и ше́дше ополчи́шася въ Махма́сѣ проти́ву веѳоро́ну на ю́гъ.

And the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait so that they could not draw nigh, and the people hid themselves in caves, and sheepfolds, and rocks, and ditches, and pits.

И ви́дѣша му́жіє Ізра́илевы, я́ко не мого́ша проти́ву ста́ти, и скры́шася лю́діє въ верте́пѣхъ и въ огра́дѣхъ и въ ка́меніихъ и въ про́пастехъ и во рва́хъ:

And they that went over went over Jordan to the land of Gad and Galaad: and Saul was yet in Galgala, and all the people followed after him in amazement.

и преходя́ще преидо́ша Іорда́нъ въ зе́млю га́дову и Галаа́дску. И Сау́лъ бя́ше єще́ въ Галга́лѣхъ, и вси́ лю́діє ужасо́шася, и́же бя́ху съ ни́мъ.

And he continued seven days for the appointed testimony, as Samuel told him, and Samuel came not to Galgala, and his people were dispersed from him.

И жда́ше се́дмь дні́й по свидѣ́телству, я́коже рече́ самуи́лъ, и не пріи́де самуи́лъ въ Галга́лы: и разсѣ́яшася лю́діє єго́ от него́.

And Saul said, Bring hither victims, that I may offer whole-burnt-offerings and peace-offerings: and he offered the whole-burnt-offering.

И рече́ Сау́лъ: приведи́те, я́ко да сотворю́ всесожже́ніє и ми́рная. И вознесе́ всесожже́ніє.

And it came to pass when he had finished offering the whole-burnt-offering, that Samuel arrived, and Saul went out to meet him, and to bless him.

И бы́сть єгда́ соверши́ вознося́ всесожже́ніє, и се́, самуи́лъ пріи́де: и Сау́лъ изы́де на срѣ́теніє єму́ благослови́тися и́мъ.

And Samuel said, What hast thou done? and Saul said, Because I saw how the people were scattered from me, and thou wast not present as thou purposedst according to the set time of the days, and the Philistines were gathered to Machmas.

И рече́ самуи́лъ: что́ сотвори́лъ єси́? И рече́ Сау́лъ: ви́дѣхъ, я́ко отидо́ша лю́діє от мене́, и ты́ не прише́лъ єси́, я́коже опредѣли́лъ єси́ свидѣ́телствомъ дні́й, иноплеме́нницы же собра́шася въ Махма́съ,

Then I said, Now will the Philistines come down to me to Galgala, and I have not sought the face of the Lord: so I forced myself and offered the whole-burnt-offering.

и рѣ́хъ: ны́нѣ пріи́дутъ иноплеме́нницы ко мнѣ́ въ Галга́лы, и лица́ Госпо́дня не умоли́хъ: и не удержа́хся, и вознесо́хъ всесожже́ніє.

And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly; for thou hast not kept my command, which the Lord commanded thee, as now the Lord would have confirmed thy kingdom over Israel for ever.

И рече́ самуи́лъ къ Сау́лу: безу́міє бы́сть тебѣ́, поне́же не сохрани́лъ єси́ за́повѣди моєя́, ю́же заповѣ́да ти́ Госпо́дь: я́ко ны́нѣ угото́валъ бы Госпо́дь ца́рство твоє́ во Ізра́или до вѣ́ка:

But now thy kingdom shall not stand to thee, and the Lord shall seek for himself a man after his own heart; and the Lord shall appoint him to be a ruler over his people, because thou hast not kept all that the Lord commanded thee.

и ны́нѣ ца́рство твоє́ не ста́нетъ тебѣ́, и изы́щетъ Госпо́дь себѣ́ человѣ́ка по се́рдцу своєму́, и повели́тъ єму́ Госпо́дь властели́ну бы́ти надъ людьми́ свои́ми, я́ко не сохрани́лъ єси́, єли́ка заповѣ́да тебѣ́ Госпо́дь.

And Samuel arose, and departed from Galgala, and the remnant of the people went after Saul to meet him after the men of war, when they had come out of Galgala to Gabaa of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were found with him, about six hundred men.

И воста́ самуи́лъ и и́де от Галга́лъ въ пу́ть сво́й: и оста́нокъ люді́й идо́ша вслѣ́дъ Сау́ла на срѣ́теніє лю́демъ ра́тнымъ. И́мже приходя́щымъ от Галга́лъ въ гаваю́ Веніамі́нову, и сочте́ Сау́лъ лю́ди обрѣ́тшыяся съ ни́мъ я́ко ше́сть со́тъ муже́й.

And Saul and Jonathan his son, and the people that were found with them, halted in Gabaa of Benjamin; and they wept: and the Philistines had encamped in Machmas.

Сау́лъ же и Іонаѳа́нъ сы́нъ єго́ и лю́діє обрѣ́тшіися съ ни́ми сѣдо́ша въ гаваи́ Веніамі́новѣ и пла́кашася: иноплеме́нницы же ополчи́шася въ Махма́сѣ.

And men came forth to destroy out of the land of the Philistines in three companies; one company turning by the way of Gophera toward the land of Sogal,

И изыдо́ша губя́щіи от села́ иноплеме́нниковъ тремя́ нача́лы: нача́ло єди́но зря́щеє пу́ть гофера́ на зе́млю Сова́лю:

and another company turning the way of Bæthoron, and another company turning by the way of Gabae that turns aside to Gai of Sabim.

и нача́ло єди́но зря́щеє пу́ть веѳоро́нь: и нача́ло єди́но зря́щеє пу́ть гаваи́, клоня́щійся къ гаісаві́мъ пусты́ни.

And there was not found a smith in all the land of Israel, for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make themselves sword or spear.

И кова́чь желѣ́за не обрѣта́шеся во все́й земли́ Ізра́илевѣ, я́ко рѣ́ша иноплеме́нницы, да не сотворя́тъ Євре́є меча́ и копія́.
20
And all Israel went down to the land of the Philistines to forge every one his reaping-hook and his tool, and every one his axe and his sickle.

И хожда́ху вси́ сы́нове Ізра́илевы въ зе́млю иноплеме́нничу кова́ти кі́йждо своя́ ко́сы и ору́дія своя́, и кі́йждо сѣки́ры своя́ и серпы́ своя́.

And it was near the time of vintage: and their tools were valued at three shekels for a ploughshare, and there was the same rate for the axe and the sickle.

И притупи́шася вся́ ору́дія приспѣ́вшей жа́твѣ, сѣки́ры и серпы́, поправле́нія же и́ма не бы́сть.

And it came to pass in the days of the war of Machmas, that there was not a sword or spear found in the hand of all the people, that were with Saul and Jonathan; but with Saul and Jonathan his son was there found.

И бы́сть во дни́ бра́ни Махма́сскія, и не обрѣ́теся меча́ и копія́ въ рука́хъ всѣ́хъ люді́й, и́же съ Сау́ломъ и со Іонаѳа́номъ: то́чію у Сау́ла и Іонаѳа́на сы́на єго́.

And there went out some from the camp of the Philistines to the place beyond Machmas.

И изыдо́ша от ста́на иноплеме́ннича объ ону́ страну́ Махма́са.
