And they that afflicted Juda and Benjamin heard, that the children of the captivity were building a house to the Lord God of Israel.

ЭОуслы'шаша же вра'ѕи і^ё'дины и^ венїами'ни, и^же сн~ове плњненїя соѕида'ютъ цр~коv г~ђ б~ђ і^и^л~евђ”

And they drew near to Zorobabel, and to the heads of families, and said to them, We will build with you; for as ye do, we seek to serve our God, and we do sacrifice to him from the days of Asaradan king of Assur, who brought us hither.

И$ пристђпи'ша къ зорова'велю, и^ къ кня'ѕемъ эTч~ествъ, и^ съдњлаеM съ ва'ми. понеже та'ко ја%ко и^ в^ы и%щемъ б~а вашего, и^ е^мђ пожреM жрътвђ эT дн~їи а^сђра'нъда цр~я а^сђр#ска, и^же и^зведе' ны т^ђ”

Then Zorobabel, and Jesus and the rest of the heads of the families of Israel said to them, It is not for us and you to build a house to our God, for we ourselves will build together to the Lord our God, as Cyrus the king of the Persians commanded us.

И$ рече и^мъ зорова'вель і^ ѓ^сђе и^ про'чїи кня'ѕи эTч~ьствъ і^и^л~евыхъ” Нњ'сть на'мъ и^ ва'мъ созда'ти до'мъ б~а на'шего, н^о мы` са'ми съѕидаеM г~ђ б~ђ на'шемђ ја%ко повелњ намъ кљ=ръ цр~ь пр'ьскїи.

And the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Juda, and hindered them in building,

сего ради стоворено бысть, и^же лю'дїе земнїи помњшива'ютъ рђ'ки лю'дїи і^ё^де'искихъ” И$ въздръжа'хђ и^хъ въ соѕида'нїи,

and continued hiring persons against them, plotting to frustrate their counsel, all the days of Cyrus king of the Persians, and until the reign of Darius king of the Persians.

и^зведо'ша же на нихъ совњтницы да разоря'тъ совњтъ иX вс^я дн~и кљ=ра цр~я пр'ьскаго. и^ да'же до црsтва да'рїя цр~я пр'ьскаго”

And in the reign of Assuerus, even in the beginning of his reign, they wrote a letter against the inhabitants of Juda and Jerusalem.

Въ црsтво же а^сђера и^же е^сть а^ртаћерћеs въ нача'лњ црsтва е^го, напи'са сви'тоk на і^ё^де'и живђщая въ і^ерsлимњ.

And in the days of Arthasastha, Tabeel wrote peaceably to Mithradates and to the rest of his fellow-servants: the tribute-gatherer wrote to Arthasastha king of the Persians a writing in the Syrian tongue, and the same interpreted.

Reum the chancellor, and Sampsa the scribe wrote an epistle against Jerusalem to king Arthasastha, saying,

Thus has judged Reum the chancellor, and Sampsa the scribe, and the rest of our fellow-servants, the Dinæans, the Apharsathachæans, the Tarphalæans, the Apharsæans, the Archyæans, the Babylonians, the Susanachæans, Davæans,

сїя си'це сђдъ” Реё'мъ, валтара'мъ, и^ са'мўа` кни'гочїи, и^ прочїи` совњтницы на'ши. дине'искїя, и^ а^фарсаџахе'и, и^ тарфале'и, и^ а^рфасе'и. а^рхїей вављ=ло'няне, и^ сђсанахе'не, савяне”

and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Assenaphar removed, and settled them in the cities of Somoron, and the rest of them beyond the river.

И$ прочїи` эT ја^зыk и%хже преведе а^с#сенафаръ вели'кїи преславныи. и^ всели и^хъ въ' градњхъ ѓ^морьскихъ. и^ въ про'чихъ странаX чрез рњкђ”

This is the purport of the letter, which they sent to him: Thy servants the men beyond the river to king Arthasastha.

Сїе е^сть сказа'нїе посланїи ја%же посла'ша к немђ`” А$ртаћерћђ цр~ю раби` твои` мђж'и и^же сђть за рњкою.

Be it known to the king, that the Jews who came up from thee to us have come to Jerusalem the rebellious and wicked city, which they are building, and its walls are set in order, and they have established the foundations of it.

вњдомо да бђдеT т^и цр~ю, ја%ко і^ё^де'е е^же възыидо'ша эT тебе` къ на'мъ прїидо'ша въ і^ерsлимъ граD эTмњтны и^ лђка'вы, е^гоже соѕидаюT строя'ще стњ'ны и^хъ, и^ крњпле'нїе слага'ющи въ высотђ`”

Now then be it known to the king, that if that city be built up, and its walls completed, thou shalt have no tribute, neither will they pay anything, and this injures kings.

Нн~њ ё^бо вњдомо да бђдеT ти цр~ю. ја%ко а'ще граD се'й со'зданъ бђ'детъ, и^ стњны е^го воста'влены бђ'дђтъ. да'нь и^ вожделе'нїе и^ лњтняго възда'нїа не дадђт# т^и. и^ сїе цр~емъ ѕл^отво'ритъ.

And it is not lawful for us to see the dishonour of the king: therefore have we sent and made known the matter to the king;

и^ посрамощенїе твое цр~ю, не подобае^т# намъ вњ'дњти” Сего ради посла'хоM да възвњстиM т^и цр~ю

that examination may be made in thy fathers' book of record; and thou shalt find, and thou shalt know that that city is rebellious, and does harm to kings and countries, and there are in the midst of it from very old time refuges for runaway slaves: therefore this city has been made desolate.

да раз#смо'триj въ кни'ги па'мятопи'сныхъ эTц~евъ твои^х#. и^ ѓ^бря'щеши пи'сано въ преложенїихъ. и^ позна'еши ја%ко граD ѓ'нъ эTмњтенъ е^сть” И$ ѓ^би'дящи цр~еи и^ вла'стеи ё^бњ'жище слђгъ быва'ет# среди е^го, эT дн~їи дре'внихъ. сего раd и^ граD то'й разоренъ е^сть”

We therefore declare to the king, that, if that city be built, and its walls be set up, thou shalt not have peace.

Знано ё^ботво'римъ т^и цр~ю. ја^ко а'ще граD то'й со'зданъ бђ'детъ, и^ стњны е^го ё^твръдя'тъ и^ не бђ'дет т^и ми'ра”

Then the king sent to Reum the chancellor, and Sampsa the scribe, and the rest of their fellow-servants who dwelt in Samaria, and the rest beyond the river, saying, Peace; and he says,

И$ посла` цр~ь ко а^реё'мђ, и^ ваlтара'мђ и самўа'ю кни'гочїю. и^ къ прочїи^м# и^же бяхђ въ совњте иX. ѓ^бита'ющиM въ самарїи и^ прочїимъ за рњко'ю гл~ющи ми'ръ”

The tribute-gatherer whom ye sent to us, has been called before me.

¹⁸

И$ рече да'ньныи возима'тель е^гоже посла'сте к на'мъ. ја^вле'но же еs предо мно'ю.

¹⁹

And a decree has been made by me, and we have examined, and found that that city of old time exalts itself against kings, and that rebellions and desertions take place within it.

¹⁹

но и^ эT мене` повелњно е^сть” И$ съгледахоM и^ ѓ^брњто'хомъ ја%ко граD то'и эT дн~їи дре'вниX на сђпротивле'нїе цр~е'мъ поDно'сится эTмњта'нїе и^ бњга'нїа быва'юT.

And there were powerful kings in Jerusalem, and they ruled over all the country beyond the river, and abundant revenues and tribute were given to them.

и^ цр~и крипки въ і^ерsлимњ, и^же г~ьствова'ли сђть вся'кою стра'ною ја%же за рњкою е^сть. да'ни же мно'ги и^ ча'сть дава'шеся и^мъ”

Now therefore make a decree to stop the work of those men, and that city shall no more be built.

И$ нн~њ ё^бо положите вњ'данїе. и^ не повели'те мђжемъ ѓ%нњмъ да селенїа того не соѕида'ют# ктомђ`.

See that ye be careful of the decree, not to be remiss concerning this matter, lest at any time destruction should abound to the harm of kings.

да эT воли иX ё^дръжатся и^ да ѓ^ста'вятъ твори'ти сїе. е%же б^ы когда` не ё^мно'жилася зги'бель нњ'кая на ѕло` цр~ю”

Then the tribute-gatherer of king Arthasastha read the letter before Reum the chancellor, and Sampsa the scribe, and his fellow-servants: and they went in haste to Jerusalem and through Juda, and caused them to cease with horses and an armed force.

Тогда` кни'гочїи а^ртећерћа цр~я прочте сви'токъ преD реё^момъ валтара'момъ а^самўаеM, кни'гочїемъ, и^ совњтники и^хъ” І$ и^до'ша тща'телно въ і^ерsлимъ къ іё^деѓ'мъ. и^ въздръжаша и^хъ мы'шцею си'лною”

Then ceased the work of the house of God in Jerusalem, and it was at a stand until the second year of the reign of Darius king of the Persians.

Тогда` преста'ло е^сть дњ'ло до'мђ гн~я въ і^ерsли'мњ. и^ не сътворя'шеся да'же до лњта вто'раго, црsтва да'рїя цр~я` пр'ьскаго”
