ΚΑΙ ἀναστὰς ῎Εδρας ἀπὸ τῆς αὐλῆς τοῦ ἱεροῦ ἐπορεύθη εἰς τὸ παστοφόριον ᾿Ιωνὰν τοῦ ᾿Ελιασίβου,	Then Esdras rising from the court of the temple went to the chamber of Joanan the son of Eliasib,

καὶ αὐλισθεὶς ἐκεῖ ἄρτου οὐκ ἐγεύσατο οὐδὲ ὕδωρ ἔπιε, πενθῶν ἐπὶ τῶν ἀνομιῶν τῶν μεγάλων τοῦ πλήθους.	and remained there, and did eat no meat nor drink water, mourning for the great iniquities of the multitude.

καὶ ἐγένετο κήρυγμα ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ᾿Ιουδαίᾳ καὶ ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ πᾶσι τοῖς ἐκ τῆς αἰχμαλωσίας συναχθῆναι εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλήμ·	And there was a proclamation in all Jewry and Jerusalem to all them that were of the captivity, that they should be gathered together at Jerusalem:

καὶ ὅσοι ἂν μὴ ἀπαντήσωσιν ἐν δυσὶν ἢ τρισὶν ἡμέραις κατὰ τὸ κρίμα τῶν προκαθημένων πρεσβυτέρων, ἀνιερωθήσονται τὰ κτήνη αὐτῶν, καὶ αὐτὸς ἀλλοτριωθήσεται ἀπὸ τοῦ πλήθους τῆς αἰχμαλωσίας.	and that whosoever met not there within two or three days, according as the elders that bare rule appointed, their cattle should be seized to the use of the temple, and himself cast out from them that were of the captivity.

καὶ ἐπισυνήχθησαν πάντες οἱ ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς ᾿Ιούδα καὶ Βενιαμὶν ἐν τρισὶν ἡμέραις εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλήμ (οὗτος ὁ μὴν ἔννατος τῇ εἰκάδι τοῦ μηνός),	And in three days were all they of the tribe of Juda and Benjamin gathered together at Jerusalem the twentieth day of the ninth month.

καὶ συνεκάθισαν πᾶν τὸ πλῆθος ἐν τῷ εὐρυχώρῳ τοῦ ἱεροῦ τρέμοντες διὰ τὸν ἐνεστῶτα χειμῶνα.	And all the multitude sat in the broad court of the temple, trembling because of the present foul weather.

καὶ ἀναστὰς ῎Εσδρας εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· ὑμεῖς ἠνομήσατε καὶ συνῳκίσατε γυναιξὶν ἀλλογενέσι τοῦ προσθεῖναι ἁμαρτίας τῷ ᾿Ισραήλ·	So Esdras arose up, and said unto them, Ye have transgressed the law in marrying strange wives, thereby to increase the sins of Israel.
8	8
καὶ νῦν δότε ὁμολογίαν δόξαν τῷ Κυρίῳ Θεῷ τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν	And now by confessing give glory unto the Lord God of our fathers,
9	9
καὶ ποιήσατε τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ καὶ χωρίσθητε ἀπὸ τῶν ἐθνῶν τῆς γῆς καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν γυναικῶν τῶν ἀλλογενῶν.	and do his will, and separate yourselves from the heathen of the land, and from the strange women.
10	10
καὶ ἐφώνησεν ἅπαν τὸ πλῆθος καὶ εἶπον μεγάλῃ τῇ φωνῇ· οὕτως ὡς εἴρηκας ποιήσομεν.	Then cried the whole multitude, and said with a loud voice, Like as thou hast spoken, so will we do.

ἀλλὰ τὸ πλῆθος πολὺ καὶ ὥρα χειμερινή, καὶ οὐκ ἰσχύομεν στῆναι αἴθριοι, καὶ τὸ ἔργον οὐκ ἔστιν ἡμῖν ἡμέρας μιᾶς οὐδὲ δύο· ἐπὶ πλεῖον γὰρ ἡμάρτομεν ἐν τούτοις.	But forasmuch as the people are many, and it is foul weather, so that we cannot stand without, and this is not a work of a day or two, seeing our sin in these things is spread far:

στήτωσαν δὲ οἱ προηγούμενοι τοῦ πλήθους, καὶ πάντες οἱ ἐκ τῶν κατοικιῶν ἡμῶν ὅσοι ἔχουσι γυναῖκας ἀλλογενεῖς, παραγενηθήτωσαν λαβόντες χρόνον·	therefore let the rulers of the multitude stay, and let all them of our habitations that have strange wives come at the time appointed,

ἑκάστου δὲ τόπου τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους καὶ τοὺς κριτὰς ἕως τοῦ λῦσαι τὴν ὀργὴν Κυρίου ἀφ᾿ ἡμῶν τοῦ πράγματος τούτου.	and with them the rulers and judges of every place, till we turn away the wrath of the Lord from us for this matter.
14	14
᾿Ιωνάθας ᾿Αζαήλου καὶ ᾿Εζεκίας Θεωκανοῦ ἐπεδέξαντο κατὰ ταῦτα, καὶ Μοσόλλαμος καὶ Λευὶς καὶ Σαββαταῖος συνεβράβευσαν αὐτοῖς.	Then Jonathan the son of Azael and Ezechias the son of Theocanus accordingly took this matter upon them: and Mosollam and Levis and Sabbatheus helped them.
15	15
καὶ ἐποίησαν κατὰ πάντα ταῦτα οἱ ἐκ τῆς αἰχμαλωσίας.	And they that were of the captivity did according to all these things.
16	16
καὶ ἐπελέξατο αὐτῷ ῎Εσδρας ὁ ἱερεὺς ἄνδρας ἡγουμένους τῶν πατριῶν αὐτῶν πάντας κατ᾿ ὄνομα, καὶ συνεκλείσθησαν τῇ νουμηνίᾳ τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ δεκάτου ἐτάσαι τὸ πρᾶγμα.	And Esdras the priest chose unto him the principal men of their families, all by name: and in the first day of the tenth month they sat together to examine the matter.
17	17
καὶ ἤχθη ἐπὶ πέρας τὰ κατὰ τοὺς ἄνδρας τοὺς ἐπισυνέχοντας γυναῖκας ἀλλογενεῖς ἕως τῆς νουμηνίας τοῦ πρώτου μηνός.	So their cause that held strange wives was brought to an end in the first day of the first month.
18	18
καὶ εὑρέθησαν τῶν ἱερέων οἱ ἐπισυναχθέντες ἀλλογενεῖς γυναῖκας ἔχοντες·	And of the priests that were come together, and had strange wives, there were found;
19	19
ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν ᾿Ιησοῦ τοῦ ᾿Ιωσεδὲκ καὶ τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτοῦ Μαθήλας καὶ ᾿Ελεάζαρος καὶ ᾿Ιώριβος καὶ ᾿Ιωαδάνος·	of the sons of Jesus the son of Josedec, and his brethren; Matthelas, and Eleazar, and Joribus, and Joadanus.
20	20
καὶ ἐπέβαλον τὰς χεῖρας ἐκβαλεῖν τὰς γυναῖκας αὐτῶν, καὶ εἰς ἐξιλασμὸν κριοὺς ὑπὲρ τῆς ἀγνοίας αὐτῶν.	And they gave their hands to put away their wives, and to offer rams to make reconcilement for their errors.
21	21
καὶ ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν ᾿Εμμήρ, ᾿Ανανίας καὶ Ζαβδαῖος καὶ Μάνης καὶ Σαμαῖος καὶ ῾Ιερεὴλ καὶ ᾿Αζαρίας·	And of the sons of Emmer: Ananias, and Zabdeus, and Manes, and Samæus, and Hiereel, and Azarias.
22	22
καὶ ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν Φαισούρ, ᾿Ελιωναΐς Μασσίας ᾿Ισμαῆλος καὶ Ναθαναῆλος καὶ ᾿Ωκόδηλος καὶ Σαλόας·	And of the sons of Phaisur; Elionais, Massias, Ismael, and Nathanael, and Ocodelus, and Saloas.
23	23
καὶ ἐκ τῶν Λευιτῶν, ᾿Ιωζαβάδος καὶ Σεμεΐς καὶ Κώϊος (οὗτός ἐστι Καλιτάς) καὶ Παθαῖος καὶ ᾿Ιούδας καὶ ᾿Ιωνάς·	And of the Levites; Jozabad, and Semis, and Coïus, who was called Calitas, and Patheus, and Judas, and Jonas.

ἐκ τῶν ἱεροψαλτῶν, ᾿Ελιάσεβος, Βακχοῦρος·	Of the holy singers: Eleasabus, Bacchurus.
25	25
ἐκ τῶν θυρωρῶν, Σαλοῦμος καὶ Τολβάνης·	Of the porters; Salumus, and Tolbanes.

ἐκ τοῦ ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν Φόρος, ῾Ιερμὰς καὶ ᾿Ιεζίας καὶ Μελχίας καὶ Μαῆλος καὶ ᾿Ελεάζαρος καὶ ᾿Ασεβίας καὶ Βαναίας·	Of them of Israel, of the sons of Phoros; Hiermas, and Jezias, and Melchias, and Maelus, and Eleazar, and Asebias, and Banæas.

ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν ᾿Ηλά, Ματθανίας, Ζαχαρίας καὶ ᾿Ιεζριῆλος καὶ ᾿Ιωαβδίος καὶ ῾Ιερεμὼθ καὶ ᾿Αϊδίας·	Of the sons of Ela; Matthanias, Zacharias, and Jezrielus, and Joabdius, and Hieremoth, and Aïdias.

καὶ ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν Ζαμώθ, ᾿Ελιαδάς, ᾿Ελιάσιμος, ᾿Οθονίας ᾿Ιαριμὼθ καὶ Σάβαθος καὶ Ζεραλίας·	And of the sons of Zamoth; Eliadas, Eliasimus, Othonias, Jarimoth, and Sabatus, and Zeralias.

καὶ ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν Βηβαΐ, ᾿Ιωάννης καὶ ᾿Ανανίας καὶ ᾿Ιωζάβδος καὶ ᾿Αμαθίας·	Of the sons of Bebai; Joannes, and Ananias, and Josabad, and Amatheis.
30	30
ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν Μανί, ᾿Ωλαμός, Μαμοῦχος, ᾿Ιεδαῖος, ᾿Ιασοῦβος καὶ ᾿Ιασαῆλος καὶ ῾Ιερεμώθ·	Of the sons of Mani; Olamus, Mamuchus, Jedeus, Jasubus, Jasael, and Hieremoth.

καὶ ἐξ υἱῶν ᾿Αδδί, Νάαθος καὶ Μοοσίας, Λακκοῦνος καὶ Ναΐδος, Ματθανίας καὶ Σεσθήλ· καὶ Βαλνοῦος καὶ Μανασσίας·	And of the sons of Addi; Naathus, and Moosias, Lacunus, and Naidus, Matthanias, and Sesthel, Balnuus, and Manasseas.

καὶ ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν ᾿Ανάν, ᾿Ελιωνὰς καὶ ᾿Ασαΐας καὶ Μελχίας καὶ Σαββαῖος καὶ Σίμων Χοσαμαῖος·	And of the sons of Annas; Elionas, and Asaias, and Melchias, and Sabbeus, and Simon Chosameus.

καὶ ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν ᾿Ασόμ, ᾿Αλταναῖος καὶ Ματταθίας καὶ Σαβανναῖος καὶ ᾿Ελιφαλὰτ καὶ Μανασσῆς καὶ Σεμεΐ·	And of the sons of Asom; Altaneus, and Mattathias, and Sabanneus, Eliphalat, and Manasses, and Semei.

καὶ ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν Βαανί, ῾Ιερεμίας, Μομδίος, ᾿Ισμαῆρος, ᾿Ιουήλ, Μαβδαΐ καὶ Πεδίας καὶ ῎Ανως, Ραβασίων καὶ ᾿Ενάσιβος καὶ Μαμνιτάναιμος, ᾿Ελίασις, Βαννούς, ᾿Ελιαλί, Σομεΐς, Σελεμίας, Ναθανίας· καὶ ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν ᾿Εζωρά, Σεσίς, ᾿Εσρήλ, ᾿Αζαῆλος, Σαματός, Ζαμβρί, ᾿Ιώσηφος·	And of the sons of Baani: Jeremias, Momdis, Ismaerus, Juel, Mabdai, and Pedias, and Anos, Rabasion, and Enasibus, and Mamnitanaimus, Eliasis, Bannus, Eliali, Samis, Selemias, Nathanias: and of the sons of Ezora; Sesis, Esril, Azaelus, Samatus, Zambri, Josephus.

καὶ ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν ᾿Εθμά, Μαζιτίας, Ζαβαδαίας, ᾿Ηδαΐς, ᾿Ιουήλ, Βαναίας.	And of the sons of Ethma; Mazitias, Zabadaias, Edaïs, Juel, Banaias.
36	36
πάντες οὗτοι συνῴκισαν γυναῖκας ἀλλογενεῖς, καὶ ἀπέλυσαν αὐτὰς σὺν τέκνοις.	All these had taken strange wives, and they put them away with their children.
37	37
Καὶ κατῴκησαν οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται καὶ οἱ ἐκ τοῦ ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ καὶ ἐν τῇ χώρᾳ τῇ νουμηνίᾳ τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ ἑβδόμου καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐν ταῖς κατοικίαις αὐτῶν.	And the priests and Levites, and they that were of Israel, dwelt in Jerusalem, and in the country, in the first day of the seventh month: so the children of Israel were in their habitations.
38	38
καὶ συνήχθη πᾶν τὸ πλῆθος ὁμοθυμαδὸν ἐπὶ τὸ εὐρύχωρον τοῦ πρὸς ἀνατολὰς τοῦ ἱεροῦ πυλῶνος	And the whole multitude came together with one accord into the broad place of the holy porch toward the east:
39	39
καὶ εἶπεν ῎Εσδρᾳ τῷ ἱερεῖ καὶ ἀναγνώστῃ· κόμισαι τὸν νόμον Μωυσῆ τὸν παραδοθέντα ὑπὸ Κυρίου Θεοῦ ᾿Ισραήλ.	and they spake unto Esdras the priest and reader, that he would bring the law of Moses, that was given of the Lord God of Israel.
40	40
καὶ ἐκόμισεν ῎Εσδρας ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς τὸν νόμον παντὶ τῷ πλήθει ἀνθρώπου ἕως γυναικὸς καὶ πᾶσι τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν ἀκοῦσαι τοῦ νόμου νουμηνίᾳ τοῦ ἑβδόμου μηνός.	So Esdras the chief priest brought the law to the whole multitude from man to woman, and to all the priests, to hear the law in the first day of the seventh month.
41	41
καὶ ἀνεγίνωσκεν ἐν τῷ πρὸ τοῦ ἱεροῦ πυλῶνος εὐρυχώρῳ, ἐξ ὄρθρου ἕως μέσης ἡμέρας, ἐνώπιον ἀνδρῶν τε καὶ γυναικῶν, καὶ ἀπέδωκαν πᾶν τὸ πλῆθος τὸν νοῦν εἰς τὸν νόμον.	And he read in the broad court before the holy porch from morning unto midday, before both men and women; and all the multitude gave heed unto the law.
42	42
καὶ ἔστη ῎Εσδρας ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ ἀναγνώστης τοῦ νόμου ἐπὶ τοῦ ξυλίνου βήματος τοῦ κατασκευασθέντος,	And Esdras the priest and reader of the law stood up upon a pulpit of wood which was made for that purpose.
43	43
καὶ ἔστησαν παρ᾿ αὐτῷ Ματταθίας, Σαμμούς, ᾿Ανανίας, ᾿Αζαρίας, Οὐρίας, ᾿Εζεκίας, Βαάλσαμος ἐκ δεξιῶν,	And there stood up by him Mattathias, Sammus, Ananias, Azarias, Urias, Ezecias, Baalsamus, upon the right hand:
44	44
καὶ ἐξ εὐωνύμων Φαλδαῖος καὶ Μισαήλ, Μελχίας, Λωθάσουβος, Ναβαρίας, Ζαχαρίας.	and upon his left hand Phaldaius, and Misael, Melchias, Lothasubus, Nabarias, Zacharias.
45	45
καὶ ἀναλαβὼν ῎Εσδρας τὸ βιβλίον ἐνώπιον τοῦ πλήθους προεκάθητο ἐπιδόξως ἐνώπιον πάντων,	Then took Esdras the book of the law before the multitude: for he sat honourably in the first place in the sight of them all.
46	46
καὶ ἐν τῷ λῦσαι τὸν νόμον πάντες ὀρθοὶ ἔστησαν. καὶ εὐλόγησεν ῎Εσδρας τῷ Κυρίῳ Θεῷ ῾Υψίστῳ Θεῷ Σαβαὼθ παντοκράτορι,	And when he opened the law, they stood all straight up. So Esdras blessed the Lord God most High, the God of hosts, Almighty.
47	47
καὶ ἐπεφώνησε πᾶν τὸ πλῆθος ἀμήν. καὶ ἄραντες ἄνω τὰς χεῖρας, προσπεσόντες ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν, προσεκύνησαν τῷ Κυρίῳ.	And all the people answered, Amen; and lifting up their hands they fell to the ground, and worshipped the Lord.

᾿Ιησοῦς καὶ ᾿Αννιοὺθ καὶ Σαραβίας καὶ ᾿Ιαδινὸς καὶ ᾿Ιάκουβος, Σαββαταῖος, Αὐταίας, Μαιάννας καὶ Καλίτας, ᾿Αζαρίας καὶ ᾿Ιώζαβδος καὶ ᾿Ανανίας, Φαλίας, οἱ Λευῖται, ἐδίδασκον τὸν νόμον τοῦ Κυρίου καὶ πρὸς τὸ πλῆθος ἀνεγίνωσκον τὸν νόμον τοῦ Κυρίου, ἐμφυσιοῦντες ἅμα τὴν ἀνάγνωσιν.	Also Jesus, Anniuth, Sarabias, Adinus, Jacubus, Sabateas, Auteas, Maiannas, and Calitas, Azarias, and Joazabdus, and Ananias, Phalias, the Levites, taught the law of the Lord, and read the law of the Lord to the multitude, making them withal to understand it.
49	49
καὶ εἶπεν ᾿Ατθαράτης ῎Εσδρᾳ τῷ ἀρχιερεῖ καὶ ἀναγνώστῃ καὶ τοῖς Λευίταις τοῖς διδάσκουσι τὸ πλῆθος ἐπὶ πάντας·	Then spake Attharates unto Esdras the chief priest and reader, and to the Levites that taught the multitude, even to all, saying,

ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη ἐστὶν ἁγία τῷ Κυρίῳ, καὶ πάντες ἔκλαιον ἐν τῷ ἀκοῦσαι τοῦ νόμου·	This day is holy unto the Lord; (for they all wept when they heard the law:)
51	51
βαδίσαντες οὖν φάγετε λιπάσματα καὶ πίετε γλυκάσματα καὶ ἀποστείλατε ἀποστολὰς τοῖς μὴ ἔχουσιν,	go then, and eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send part to them that have nothing:
52	52
ἁγία γὰρ ἡ ἡμέρα τῷ Κυρίῳ· καὶ μὴ λυπεῖσθε, ὁ γὰρ Κύριος δοξάσει ὑμᾶς.	for this day is holy unto the Lord: and be not sorrowful; for the Lord will bring you to honour.

καὶ οἱ Λευῖται ἐκέλευον παντὶ τῷ δήμῳ λέγοντες· ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη ἁγία, μὴ λυπεῖσθε.	So the Levites published all things to the people, saying, This day is holy to the Lord; be not sorrowful.
54	54
καὶ ᾤχοντο πάντες φαγεῖν καὶ πιεῖν καὶ εὐφραίνεσθαι καὶ δοῦναι ἀποστολὰς τοῖς μὴ ἔχουσι καὶ εὐφρανθῆναι μεγάλως,	Then went they their way, every one to eat and drink and make merry, and to give part to them that had nothing, and to make great cheer;
55	55
ὅτι γὰρ ἐνεφυσιώθησαν ἐν τοῖς ρήμασιν, οἷς ἐδιδάχθησαν, καὶ ἐπισυνήχθησαν.	because they understood the words wherein they were instructed, and for the which they had been assembled.
