ΚΑΙ ἐν τῷ πρώτῳ ἔτει Κύρου τοῦ Βασιλέως Περσῶν τοῦ τελεσθῆναι λόγον Κυρίου ἀπὸ στόματος ῾Ιερεμίου, ἐξήγειρε Κύριος τὸ πνεῦμα Κύρου βασιλέως Περσῶν, καὶ παρήγγειλε φωνὴν ἐν πάσῃ βασιλείᾳ αὐτοῦ καί γε ἐν γραπτῷ λέγων·	Now in the first year of Cyrus king of the Persians, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremias might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of the Persians, and he issued a proclamation through all his kingdom, and that in writing, saying,

οὕτως εἶπε Κῦρος βασιλεὺς Περσῶν· πάσας τὰς βασιλείας τῆς γῆς ἔδωκέ μοι Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, καὶ αὐτὸς ἐπεσκέψατο ἐπ᾿ ἐμὲ τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι οἶκον αὐτῷ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ τῇ ἐν τῇ ᾿Ιουδαίᾳ.	Thus said Cyrus king of the Persians, The Lord God of heaven has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and he has given me a charge to build him a house in Jerusalem that is in Judea.

τίς ἐν ὑμῖν ἀπὸ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ αὐτοῦ; καὶ ἔσται ὁ Θεὸς αὐτοῦ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἀναβήσεται εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ τὴν ἐν τῇ ᾿Ιουδαίᾳ, καὶ οἰκοδομησάτω τὸν οἶκον Θεοῦ ᾿Ισραὴλ (αὐτὸς ὁ Θεὸς ὁ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ).	Who is there among you of all his people? for his God shall be with him, and he shall go up to Jerusalem that is in Judea, and let him build the house of the God of Israel: he is the God that is in Jerusalem.

καὶ πᾶς ὁ καταλιπόμενος ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν τόπων, οὗ αὐτὸς παροικεῖ ἐκεῖ, καὶ λήψονται αὐτὸν ἄνδρες τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ ἐν ἀργυρίῳ καὶ χρυσίῳ καὶ ἀποσκευῇ καὶ κτήνεσι μετὰ τοῦ ἑκουσίου εἰς οἶκον τοῦ Θεοῦ τοῦ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ.	And let every Jew that is left go from every place where he sojourns, and the men of his place shall help him with silver, and gold, and goods, and cattle, together with the voluntary offering for the house of God that is in Jerusalem.

καὶ ἀνέστησαν ἄρχοντες τῶν πατριῶν τῶν ᾿Ιούδα καὶ Βενιαμὶν καὶ οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται, πάντων ὧν ἐξήγειρεν ὁ Θεὸς τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτῶν τοῦ ἀναβῆναι οἰκοδομῆσαι τὸν οἶκον Κυρίου τὸν ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ.	Then the chiefs of the families of Juda and Benjamin arose, and the priests, and the Levites, all whose spirit the Lord stirred up to go up to build the house of the Lord that is in Jerusalem.

καὶ πάντες οἱ κυκλόθεν ἐνίσχυσαν ἐν χερσὶν αὐτῶν ἐν σκεύεσιν ἀργυρίου, ἐν χρυσῷ, ἐν ἀποσκευῇ καὶ ἐν κτήνεσι καὶ ἐν ξενίοις, πάρεξ τῶν ἑκουσίων.	And all that were round about strengthened their hands with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, and with cattle, and with presents, besides the voluntary offerings.

καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς Κῦρος ἐξήνεγκε τὰ σκεύη οἴκου Κυρίου, ἃ ἔλαβε Ναβουχοδονόσορ ἀπὸ ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὰ ἐν οἴκῳ Θεοῦ αὐτοῦ·	And king Cyrus brought out the vessels of the house of the Lord, which Nabuchodonosor had brought from Jerusalem, and put in the house of his god.

καὶ ἐξήνεγκεν αὐτὰ Κῦρος ὁ βασιλεὺς Περσῶν ἐπὶ χεῖρα Μιθραδάτου Γασβαρηνοῦ, καὶ ἠρίθμησεν αὐτὰ τῷ Σασαβασὰρ τῷ ἄρχοντι τοῦ ᾿Ιούδα.	And Cyrus king of the Persians brought them out by the hand of Mithradates the treasurer, and he numbered them to Sasabasar, the chief man of Juda.

καὶ οὗτος ὁ ἀριθμὸς αὐτῶν· ψυκτῆρες χρυσοῖ τριάκοντα καὶ ψυκτῆρες ἀργυροῖ χίλιοι, παρηλλαγμένα ἐννέα καὶ εἴκοσι,	And this is their number: thirty gold basons, and a thousand silver basons, nine and twenty changes, thirty golden goblets,

κεφουρῆς χρυσοῖ τριάκοντα καὶ ἀργυροῖ διπλοῖ τετρακόσια δέκα καὶ σκεύη ἕτερα χίλια.	and four hundred and ten double silver vessels, and a thousand other vessels.

πάντα τὰ σκεύη τῷ χρυσῷ καὶ τῷ ἀργυρῷ πεντακισχίλια καὶ τετρακόσια, τὰ πάντα ἀναβαίνοντα μετὰ Σασαβασὰρ ἀπὸ τῆς ἀποικίας ἐκ Βαβυλῶνος εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλήμ.	All the gold and silver vessels were five thousand four hundred, even all that went up with Sasabasar from the place of transportation, from Babylon to Jerusalem.

ΚΑΙ οὗτοι οἱ υἱοὶ τῆς χώρας οἱ ἀναβαίνοντες ἀπὸ τῆς αἰχμαλωσίας τῆς ἀποικίας, ἧς ἀπῴκισε Ναβουχοδονόσορ βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος εἰς Βαβυλῶνα, καὶ ἐπέστρεψεν εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ καὶ ᾿Ιούδα ἀνὴρ εἰς πόλιν αὐτοῦ,	And these are the people of the land that went up, of the number of prisoners who were removed, whom Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon carried away to Babylon, and they returned to Juda and Jerusalem, every man to his city;

οἳ ἦλθον μετὰ Ζοροβάβελ· ᾿Ιησοῦς, Νεεμίας, Σαραΐας, Ρεελίας, Μαρδοχαῖος, Βαλασάν, Μασφάρ, Βαγουαί, Ρεούμ, Βαανά, ἀνδρῶν ἀριθμὸς λαοῦ ᾿Ισραήλ·	who came with Zorobabel: Jesus, Neemias, Saraias, Reelias, Mardochæus, Balasan, Masphar, Baguai, Reum, Baana. The number of the people of Israel:

υἱοὶ Φαρὲς δισχίλιοι ἑκατὸν ἑβδομηκονταδύο·	The children of Phares, two thousand one hundred and seventy-two.

υἱοὶ Σαφατία τριακόσιοι ἑβδομηκονταπέντε·	The children of Saphatia, three hundred and seventy-two.

υἱοὶ ῎Αρες ἑπτακόσιοι ἑβδομηκονταπέντε·	The children of Ares, seven hundred and seventy-five.

υἱοὶ Φαὰθ Μωὰβ τοῖς υἱοῖς ᾿Ιησουὲ ᾿Ιωὰβ δισχίλιοι ὀκτακόσιοι δεκαδύο·	The children of Phaath Moab, belonging to the sons of Jesue and Joab, two thousand eight hundred and twelve.

υἱοὶ ᾿Εμμὴρ χίλιοι πεντηκονταδύο·	The children of Emmer, a thousand and fifty-two.

υἱοὶ Φασσοὺρ χίλιοι διακόσιοι τεσσαρακονταεπτά·	The children of Phassur, a thousand two hundred and forty-seven.

υἱοὶ ᾿Ηρὲμ χίλιοι ἑπτά·	The children of Erem, a thousand and seven.

υἱοὶ τῶν πυλωρῶν υἱοὶ Σελλούμ, υἱοὶ ᾿Ατήρ, υἱοὶ Τελμών, υἱοὶ ᾿Ακούβ, υἱοὶ ᾿Ατιτά, υἱοὶ Σωβαΐ, οἱ πάντες ἑκατὸν τριακονταεννέα·	The children of the porters, the children of Sellum, the children of Ater, the children of Telmon, the children of Acub, the children of Atita, the children of Sobai, in all a hundred and thirty-nine.

πάντες οἱ Ναθανὶμ καὶ υἱοὶ ᾿Αβδησελμὰ τριακόσιοι ἐνενηκονταδύο.	All the Nathanim, and the sons of Abdeselma were three hundred and ninety-two.

καὶ οὗτοι οἱ ἀναβάντες ἀπὸ Θελμελέχ, Θελαρησά, Χερούβ, ῾Ηδάν, ᾿Εμμήρ καὶ οὐκ ἐδυνάσθησαν τοῦ ἀναγγεῖλαι οἶκον πατριᾶς αὐτῶν καὶ σπέρμα αὐτῶν εἰ ἐξ ῾Ισραήλ εἰσιν·	And these are they that went up from Thelmelech, Thelaresa, Cherub, Hedan, Emmer: and they were not able to tell the house of their fathers, and their seed, whether they were of Israel:

υἱοὶ Δαλαΐα, υἱοὶ Βουά, υἱοὶ Τωβίου, υἱοὶ Νεκωδά, ἑξακόσιοι πεντηκονταδύο·	the children of Dalæa, the children of Bua, the children of Tobias, the children of Necoda, six hundred and fifty-two.

καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν τῶν ἱερέων υἱοὶ Λαβεία, υἱοὶ ᾿Ακκούς, υἱοὶ Βερζελλαΐ, ὃς ἔλαβεν ἀπὸ τῶν θυγατέρων Βερζελλαΐ τοῦ Γαλααδίτου γυναῖκα, καὶ ἐκλήθη ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι αὐτῶν·	And of the children of the priests, the children of Labeia, the children of Akkus, the children of Berzellai, who took a wife of the daughter of Berzellai the Galaadite, and was called by their name.

οὗτοι, ἐζήτησαν γραφὴν αὐτῶν οἱ μεθωεσίμ, καὶ οὐχ εὑρέθησαν, καὶ ἠγχιστεύθησαν ἀπὸ τῆς ἱερατείας·	These sought their genealogy as though they had been reckoned, but they were not found; and they were removed, as polluted, from the priesthood.

καὶ εἶπεν ᾿Αθερσασθὰ αὐτοῖς τοῦ μὴ φαγεῖν ἀπὸ τοῦ ἁγίου τῶν ἁγίων ἕως ἀναστῇ ἱερεὺς τοῖς φωτίζουσι καὶ τοῖς τελείοις.	And the Athersastha told them that they should not eat of the most holy things, until a priest should arise with Lights and Perfections.

πᾶσα δὲ ἡ ἐκκλησία ὁμοῦ ὡσεὶ τέσσαρες μυριάδες δισχίλιοι τριακόσιοι ἑξήκοντα,	And all the congregation together were about forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty;

χωρὶς δούλων αὐτῶν καὶ παιδισκῶν αὐτῶν, οὗτοι ἑπτακισχίλιοι τριακόσιοι τριακοντεπτά· καὶ οὗτοι ᾄδοντες καὶ ᾄδουσαι διακόσιοι·	besides their men-servants and maid-servants, and these were seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven: and among these were two hundred singing men and singing women.

ἵπποι αὐτῶν ἑπτακόσιοι τριακονταέξ, ἡμίονοι αὐτῶν διακόσιοι τεσσαρακονταπέντε,	Their horses were seven hundred and thirty-six, their mules, two hundred and forty-five.

κάμηλοι αὐτῶν τετρακόσιοι τριακονταπέντε, ὄνοι αὐτῶν ἑξακισχίλιοι ἑπτακόσιοι εἴκοσι.	Their camels, four hundred and thirty-five; their asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

καὶ ἀπὸ ἀρχόντων πατριῶν ἐν τῷ εἰσελθεῖν αὐτοὺς εἰς οἶκον Κυρίου τὸν ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ ἡκουσιάσαντο εἰς οἶκον τοῦ Θεοῦ τοῦ στῆσαι αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὴν ἑτοιμασίαν αὐτοῦ·	And some of the chiefs of families, when they went into the house of the Lord that was in Jerusalem, offered willingly for the house of God, to establish it on its prepared place.

ὡς ἡ δύναμις αὐτῶν, ἔδωκαν εἰς θησαυρὸν τοῦ ἔργου χρυσίον καθαρόν, μναῖ ἓξ μυριάδες καὶ χίλιαι, καὶ ἀργυρίου μνᾶς πεντακισχιλίας, καὶ κόθωνοι τῶν ἱερέων ἑκατόν.	According to their power they gave into the treasury of the work pure gold sixty-one thousand pieces, and five thousand pounds of silver, and one hundred priests' garments.

καὶ ἐκάθισαν οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται καὶ οἱ ἀπὸ τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ οἱ ᾄδοντες καὶ οἱ πυλωροὶ καὶ οἱ Ναθινὶμ ἐν πόλεσιν αὐτῶν καὶ πᾶς ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐν πόλεσιν αὐτῶν.	So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nathinim, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.
Κεφάλαιο 3	Chapter 3

ΚΑΙ ἔφθασεν ὁ μὴν ὁ ἕβδομος—καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐν πόλεσιν αὐτῶν—καὶ συνήχθη ὁ λαὸς ὡς ἀνὴρ εἷς εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλήμ.	And the seventh month came on, and the children of Israel were in their cities, and the people assembled as one man at Jerusalem.

καὶ ἀνέστη ᾿Ιησοῦς ὁ τοῦ ᾿Ιωσεδὲκ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ ἱερεῖς καὶ Ζοροβάβελ ὁ τοῦ Σαλαθιὴλ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ ᾠκοδόμησαν τὸ θυσιαστήριον Θεοῦ ᾿Ισραὴλ τοῦ ἀνενέγκαι ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸ ὁλοκαυτώσεις κατὰ τὰ γεγραμμένα ἐν νόμῳ Μωυσῆ ἀνθρώπου τοῦ Θεοῦ.	Then stood up Jesus the son of Josedec, and his brethren the priests, and Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, and his brethren, and they built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer upon it whole-burnt-offerings, according to the things that were written in the law of Moses the man of God.

καὶ ἡτοίμασαν τὸ θυσιαστήριον ἐπὶ τὴν ἑτοιμασίαν αὐτοῦ, ὅτι ἐν καταπλήξει ἐπ᾿ αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ τῶν λαῶν τῶν γαιῶν, καὶ ἀνέβη ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸ ὁλοκαύτωσις τῷ Κυρίῳ τὸ πρωΐ καὶ εἰς ἑσπέραν.	And they set up the altar on its place, for there was a terror upon them because of the people of the lands: and the whole-burnt-offering was offered up upon it to the Lord morning and evening.

καὶ ἐποίησαν τὴν ἑορτὴν τῶν σκηνῶν κατὰ τὸ γεγραμμένον καὶ ὁλοκαυτώσεις ἡμέραν ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ἐν ἀριθμῷ ὡς ἡ κρίσις, λόγον ἡμέρας ἐν ἡμέρᾳ αὐτοῦ,	And they kept the feast of tabernacles, according to that which was written, and offered whole-burnt-offerings daily in number according to the ordinance, the exact daily rate.

καὶ μετὰ τοῦτο ὁλοκαυτώσεις ἐνδελεχισμοῦ καὶ εἰς τὰς νουμηνίας καὶ εἰς πάσας ἑορτὰς τῷ Κυρίῳ τὰς ἡγιασμένας καὶ παντὶ ἑκουσιαζομένῳ ἑκούσιον τῷ Κυρίῳ.	And after this the perpetual whole-burnt-offering, and offering for the season of new moon, and for all the hallowed feasts to the Lord, and for every one that offered a free-will-offering to the Lord.

ἐν ἡμέρᾳ μιᾷ τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ ἑβδόμου ἤρξαντο ἀναφέρειν ὁλοκαυτώσεις τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶ ὁ οἶκος τοῦ Κυρίου οὐκ ἐθεμελιώθη.	On the first day of the seventh month they began to offer whole-burnt-offerings to the Lord: but the foundation of the house of the Lord was not laid.
7	7
καὶ ἔδωκαν ἀργύριον τοῖς λατόμοις καὶ τοῖς τέκτοσι καὶ βρώματα καὶ ποτὰ καὶ ἔλαιον τοῖς Σιδωνίοις καὶ τοῖς Τυρίοις ἐνέγκαι ξύλα κέδρινα ἀπὸ τοῦ Λιβάνου πρὸς θάλασσαν ᾿Ιόππης κατ᾿ ἐπιχώρησιν Κύρου βασιλέως Περσῶν ἐπ᾿ αὐτούς.	And they gave money to the stone-hewers and carpenters, and meat and drink, and oil, to the Sidonians, and Tyrians, to bring cedar trees from Libanus to the sea of Joppa, according to the grant of Cyrus king of the Persians to them.

καὶ ἐν τῷ ἔτει τῷ δευτέρῳ τοῦ ἐλθεῖν αὐτοὺς εἰς οἶκον τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ, ἐν μηνὶ τῷ δευτέρῳ, ἤρξατο Ζοροβάβελ ὁ τοῦ Σαλαθιὴλ καὶ ᾿Ιησοῦς ὁ τοῦ ᾿Ιωσεδὲκ καὶ οἱ κατάλοιποι τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτῶν οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται καὶ πάντες οἱ ἐρχόμενοι ἀπὸ τῆς αἰχμαλωσίας εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ καὶ ἔστησαν τοὺς Λευίτας ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω ἐπὶ τοὺς ποιοῦντας τὰ ἔργα ἐν οἴκῳ Κυρίου.	And in the second year of their coming to the house of God in Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, and Jesus the son of Josedec, and the rest of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all who came from the captivity to Jerusalem, and they appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, over the workmen in the house of the Lord.

καὶ ἔστη ᾿Ιησοῦς καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ, Καδμιὴλ καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ υἱοὶ ᾿Ιούδα, ἐπὶ τοὺς ποιοῦντας τὰ ἔργα ἐν οἴκῳ τοῦ Θεοῦ, υἱοὶ ᾿Ηναδάδ, υἱοὶ αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτῶν οἱ Λευῖται.	And Jesus and his sons and his brethren stood, Cadmiel and his sons the sons of Juda, over them that wrought the works in the house of God: the sons of Enadad, their sons and their brethren the Levites.

καὶ ἐθεμελίωσαν τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι τὸν οἶκον Κυρίου, καὶ ἔστησαν οἱ ἱερεῖς ἐστολισμένοι ἐν σάλπιγξι καὶ οἱ Λευῖται υἱοὶ ᾿Ασὰφ ἐν κυμβάλοις τοῦ αἰνεῖν τὸν Κύριον ἐπὶ χεῖρας Δαυὶδ βασιλέως ᾿Ισραήλ.	And they laid a foundation for building the house of the Lord: and the priests in their robes stood with trumpets and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the Lord, according to the order of David king of Israel.
11	11
καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν ἐν αἴνῳ καὶ ἀνθομολογήσει τῷ Κυρίῳ, ὅτι ἀγαθόν, ὅτι εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα τὸ ἔλεος αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ ᾿Ισραήλ. καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ἐσήμαινε φωνῇ μεγάλῃ αἰνεῖν τῷ Κυρίῳ ἐπὶ τῇ θεμελιώσει τοῦ οἴκου Κυρίου.	And they answered each other with praise and thanksgiving to the Lord, saying, For it is good, for his mercy to Israel endures for ever. And all the people shouted with a loud voice to praise the Lord at the laying the foundation of the house of the Lord.
12	12
καὶ πολλοὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ἱερέων καὶ τῶν Λευιτῶν καὶ ἄρχοντες τῶν πατριῶν οἱ πρεσβύτεροι, οἳ εἴδοσαν τὸν οἶκον τὸν πρῶτον ἐν θεμελιώσει αὐτοῦ, καὶ τοῦτον τὸν οἶκον ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς αὐτῶν, ἔκλαιον φωνῇ μεγάλῃ· καὶ ὁ ὄχλος ἐν σημασίᾳ μετ᾿ εὐφροσύνης τοῦ ὑψῶσαι ᾠδήν·	But many of the priests and the Levites, and the elder men, heads of families, who had seen the former house on its foundation, and who saw this house with their eyes, wept with a loud voice: but the multitude shouted with joy to raise a song.

καὶ οὐκ ἦν ὁ λαὸς ἐπιγινώσκων φωνὴν σημασίας τῆς εὐφροσύνης ἀπὸ τῆς φωνῆς τοῦ κλαυθμοῦ τοῦ λαοῦ, ὅτι ὁ λαὸς ἐκραύγασε φωνῇ μεγάλῃ, καὶ ἡ φωνὴ ἠκούετο ἕως ἀπὸ μακρόθεν.	And the people did not distinguish the voice of the glad shout from the voice of the weeping of the people: for the people shouted with a loud voice, and the voice was heard even from afar off.
Κεφάλαιο 4	Chapter 4

1	1
ΚΑΙ ἤκουσαν οἱ θλίβοντες ᾿Ιούδα καὶ Βενιαμίν, ὅτι υἱοὶ τῆς ἀποικίας οἰκοδομοῦσιν οἶκον τῷ Κυρίῳ Θεῷ ᾿Ισραήλ,	And they that afflicted Juda and Benjamin heard, that the children of the captivity were building a house to the Lord God of Israel.
2	2
καὶ ἤγγισαν πρὸς Ζοροβάβελ καὶ πρὸς τοὺς ἄρχοντας τῶν πατριῶν καὶ εἶπον αὐτοῖς· οἰκοδομήσομεν μεθ᾿ ὑμῶν, ὅτι ὡς ὑμεῖς ἐκζητοῦμεν τῷ Θεῷ ἡμῶν. καὶ αὐτῷ ἡμεῖς θυσιάζομεν ἀπὸ ἡμερῶν ᾿Ασαραδδὼν βασιλέως ᾿Ασσοὺρ τοῦ ἐνέγκαντος ἡμᾶς ὧδε.	And they drew near to Zorobabel, and to the heads of families, and said to them, We will build with you; for as ye do, we seek to serve our God, and we do sacrifice to him from the days of Asaradan king of Assur, who brought us hither.

καὶ εἶπε πρὸς αὐτοὺς Ζοροβάβελ καὶ ᾿Ιησοῦς καὶ οἱ κατάλοιποι τῶν ἀρχόντων τῶν πατριῶν τοῦ ᾿Ισραήλ· οὐχ ἡμῖν καὶ ὑμῖν τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι οἶκον τῷ Θεῷ ἡμῶν, ὅτι ἡμεῖς αὐτοὶ ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ οἰκοδομήσομεν τῷ Κυρίῳ Θεῷ ἡμῶν, ὡς ἐνετείλατο ἡμῖν Κῦρος ὁ βασιλεὺς Περσῶν.	Then Zorobabel, and Jesus and the rest of the heads of the families of Israel said to them, It is not for us and you to build a house to our God, for we ourselves will build together to the Lord our God, as Cyrus the king of the Persians commanded us.

καὶ ἦν ὁ λαὸς τῆς γῆς ἐκλύων τὰς χεῖρας τοῦ λαοῦ ᾿Ιούδα καὶ ἐνεπόδιζον αὐτοὺς οἰκοδομεῖν	And the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Juda, and hindered them in building,
5	5
καὶ μισθούμενοι ἐπ᾿ αὐτοὺς βουλευόμενοι τοῦ διασκεδάσαι βουλὴν αὐτῶν πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας Κύρου βασιλέως Περσῶν καὶ ἕως βασιλείας Δαρείου βασιλέως Περσῶν.	and continued hiring persons against them, plotting to frustrate their counsel, all the days of Cyrus king of the Persians, and until the reign of Darius king of the Persians.

Καὶ ἐν βασιλείᾳ ᾿Ασσουήρου, ἐν ἀρχῆ βασιλείας αὐτοῦ, ἔγραψαν ἐπιστολὴν ἐπὶ οἰκοῦντας ᾿Ιούδα καὶ ῾Ιερουσαλήμ.	And in the reign of Assuerus, even in the beginning of his reign, they wrote a letter against the inhabitants of Juda and Jerusalem.
7	7
καὶ ἐν ἡμέραις ᾿Αρθασασθὰ ἔγραψεν ἐν εἰρήνῃ Μιθραδάτῃ Ταβεὴλ καὶ τοῖς λοιποῖς συνδούλοις. πρὸς ᾿Αρθασασθὰ βασιλέα Περσῶν ἔγραψεν ὁ φορολόγος γραφὴν Συριστὶ καὶ ἡρμηνευμένην.	And in the days of Arthasastha, Tabeel wrote peaceably to Mithradates and to the rest of his fellow-servants: the tribute-gatherer wrote to Arthasastha king of the Persians a writing in the Syrian tongue, and the same interpreted.

Ραοὺμ βααλτὰμ καὶ Σαψὰ ὁ γραμματεὺς ἔγραψαν ἐπιστολὴν μίαν κατὰ ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ τῷ ᾿Αρθασασθὰ βασιλεῖ.	Reum the chancellor, and Sampsa the scribe wrote an epistle against Jerusalem to king Arthasastha, saying,

τάδε ἔκρινε Ραοὺμ βααλτὰμ καὶ Σαμψὰ ὁ γραμματεὺς καὶ οἱ κατάλοιποι σύνδουλοι ἡμῶν, Δειναῖοι, ᾿Αφαρσαθαχαῖοι, Ταρφαλαῖοι, ᾿Αφασραῖοι, ᾿Αρχυαῖοι, Βαβυλώνιοι, Σουσαναχαῖοι, Δαυαῖοι	Thus has judged Reum the chancellor, and Sampsa the scribe, and the rest of our fellow-servants, the Dinæans, the Apharsathachæans, the Tarphalæans, the Apharsæans, the Archyæans, the Babylonians, the Susanachæans, Davæans,

καὶ οἱ κατάλοιποι ἐθνῶν, ὧν ἀπώκισεν ᾿Ασσεναφὰρ ὁ μέγας καὶ ὁ τίμιος καὶ μετῴκισεν αὐτοὺς ἐν πόλεσι τῆς Σομόρων καὶ τὸ κατάλοιπον πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ·	and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Assenaphar removed, and settled them in the cities of Somoron, and the rest of them beyond the river.
11	11
αὕτη ἡ διαταγὴ τῆς ἐπιστολῆς ἧς ἀπέστειλαν πρὸς αὐτόν· «Πρὸς ᾿Αρθασασθὰ βασιλέα παῖδές σου ἄνδρες πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ.	This is the purport of the letter, which they sent to him: Thy servants the men beyond the river to king Arthasastha.

γνωστὸν ἔστω τῷ βασιλεῖ ὅτι οἱ ᾿Ιουδαῖοι οἱ ἀναβάντες ἀπὸ σοῦ πρὸς ἡμᾶς ἤλθοσαν εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ τὴν πόλιν τὴν ἀποστάτιν καὶ πονηράν, ἣν οἰκοδομοῦσι, καὶ τὰ τείχη αὐτῆς κατηρτισμένα εἰσί, καὶ θεμελίους αὐτῆς ἀνύψωσαν.	Be it known to the king, that the Jews who came up from thee to us have come to Jerusalem the rebellious and wicked city, which they are building, and its walls are set in order, and they have established the foundations of it.
13	13
νῦν οὖν γνωστὸν ἔστω τῷ βασιλεῖ, ὅτι ἐὰν ἡ πόλις ἐκείνη ἀνοικοδομηθῇ καὶ τὰ τείχη αὐτῆς καταρτισθῶσι, φόροι οὐκ ἔσονταί σοι οὐδὲ δώσουσι· καὶ τοῦτο βασιλεῖς κακοποιεῖ·	Now then be it known to the king, that if that city be built up, and its walls completed, thou shalt have no tribute, neither will they pay anything, and this injures kings.
14	14
καὶ ἀσχημοσύνην βασιλέως οὐκ ἔξεστιν ἡμῖν ἰδεῖν· διὰ τοῦτο ἐπέμψαμεν καὶ ἐγνωρίσαμεν τῷ βασιλεῖ,	And it is not lawful for us to see the dishonour of the king: therefore have we sent and made known the matter to the king;
15	15
ἵνα ἐπισκέψηται ἐν βίβλῳ ὑπομνηματισμοῦ τῶν πατέρων σου, καὶ εὑρήσεις καὶ γνώσῃ ὅτι ἡ πόλις ἐκείνη πόλις ἀποστάτις, κακοποιοῦσα βασιλεῖς καὶ χώρας, καὶ φυγαδεῖαι δούλων γίνονται ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῆς ἀπὸ ἡμερῶν αἰῶνος· διὰ ταῦτα ἡ πόλις αὕτη ἠρημώθη.	that examination may be made in thy fathers' book of record; and thou shalt find, and thou shalt know that that city is rebellious, and does harm to kings and countries, and there are in the midst of it from very old time refuges for runaway slaves: therefore this city has been made desolate.
16	16
γνωρίζομεν οὖν ἡμεῖς τῷ βασιλεῖ ὅτι ἂν ἡ πόλις ἐκείνη οἰκοδομηθῇ καὶ τὰ τείχη αὐτῆς καταρτισθῇ, οὐκ ἔστι σοι εἰρήνη».	We therefore declare to the king, that, if that city be built, and its walls be set up, thou shalt not have peace.
17	17
Καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ὁ βασιλεὺς πρὸς Ραοὺμ βααλτὰμ καὶ Σαμψὰ γραμματέα καὶ τοὺς καταλοίπους συνδούλους αὐτῶν τοὺς οἰκοῦντας ἐν Σαμαρείᾳ καὶ τοὺς καταλοίπους πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ εἰρήνην καὶ φησίν·	Then the king sent to Reum the chancellor, and Sampsa the scribe, and the rest of their fellow-servants who dwelt in Samaria, and the rest beyond the river, saying, Peace; and he says,

«ὁ φορολόγος, ὃν ἀπεστείλατε πρὸς ἡμᾶς, ἐκλήθη ἔμπροσθεν ἐμοῦ.	The tribute-gatherer whom ye sent to us, has been called before me.
19	19
καὶ παρ᾿ ἐμοῦ ἐτέθη γνώμη καὶ ἐπεσκεψάμεθα καὶ εὕραμεν, ὅτι ἡ πόλις ἐκείνη ἀφ᾿ ἡμερῶν αἰῶνος ἐπὶ βασιλεῖς ἐπαίρεται, καὶ ἀποστάσεις καὶ φυγαδεῖαι γίνονται ἐν αὐτῇ·	And a decree has been made by me, and we have examined, and found that that city of old time exalts itself against kings, and that rebellions and desertions take place within it.
20	20
καὶ βασιλεῖς ἰσχυροὶ ἐγένοντο ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ καὶ ἐπικρατοῦντες ὅλης τῆς πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ, καὶ φόροι πλήρεις καὶ μέρος δίδονται αὐτοῖς·	And there were powerful kings in Jerusalem, and they ruled over all the country beyond the river, and abundant revenues and tribute were given to them.
21	21
καὶ νῦν θέτε γνώμην καταργῆσαι τοὺς ἄνδρας ἐκείνους, καὶ ἡ πόλις ἐκείνη οὐκ οἰκοδομηθήσεται ἔτι·	Now therefore make a decree to stop the work of those men, and that city shall no more be built.
22	22
ὅπως ἀπὸ τῆς γνώμης πεφυλαγμένοι ἦτε ἄνεσιν ποιῆσαι περὶ τούτου, μή ποτε πληθυνθῇ ἀφανισμὸς εἰς κακοποίησιν βασιλεῦσι».	See that ye be careful of the decree, not to be remiss concerning this matter, lest at any time destruction should abound to the harm of kings.

Τότε ὁ φορολόγος τοῦ ᾿Αρθασασθὰ βασιλέως ἀνέγνω ἐνώπιον Ραοὺμ βααλτὰμ καὶ Σαμψὰ γραμματέως καὶ συνδούλων αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν σπουδῇ εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ καὶ ἐν ᾿Ιούδᾳ καὶ κατήργησαν αὐτοὺς ἐν ἵπποις καὶ δυνάμει.	Then the tribute-gatherer of king Arthasastha read the letter before Reum the chancellor, and Sampsa the scribe, and his fellow-servants: and they went in haste to Jerusalem and through Juda, and caused them to cease with horses and an armed force.

τότε ἤργησε τὸ ἔργον οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ τὸ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ καὶ ἦν ἀργοῦν ἕως δευτέρου ἔτους τῆς βασιλείας Δαρείου βασιλέως Περσῶν.	Then ceased the work of the house of God in Jerusalem, and it was at a stand until the second year of the reign of Darius king of the Persians.
Κεφάλαιο 5	Chapter 5

1	1
ΚΑΙ ἐπροφήτευσεν ᾿Αγγαῖος ὁ προφήτης καὶ Ζαχαρίας ὁ τοῦ ᾿Αδδὼ προφητείαν ἐπὶ τοὺς ᾿Ιουδαίους τοὺς ἐν ᾿Ιούδᾳ καὶ ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ ἐν ὀνόματι Θεοῦ ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐπ᾿ αὐτούς.	And Aggæus the prophet, and Zacharias the son of Addo, prophesied a prophecy to the Jews in Juda and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, even to them.

τότε ἀνέστησαν Ζοροβάβελ ὁ τοῦ Σαλαθιὴλ καὶ ᾿Ιησοῦς υἱὸς ᾿Ιωσεδὲκ καὶ ἤρξαντο οἰκοδομῆσαι τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Θεοῦ τὸν ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ, καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτῶν οἱ προφῆται τοῦ Θεοῦ βοηθοῦντες αὐτοῖς.	Then rose up Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, and Jesus the son of Josedec, and began to build the house of God that was in Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God assisting them.

ἐν αὐτῷ τῷ καιρῷ ἦλθεν ἐπ᾿ αὐτοὺς Θανθαναΐ ἔπαρχος πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ καὶ Σαθαρβουζαναΐ καὶ οἱ σύνδουλοι αὐτῶν καὶ τοιάδε εἶπαν αὐτοῖς· τίς ἔθηκεν ὑμῖν γνώμην τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι τὸν οἶκον τοῦτον καὶ τὴν χορηγίαν ταύτην καταρτίσασθαι;	At the same time came there upon them Thanthanai, the governor on this side the river, and Satharbuzanai, and their fellow-servants, and spoke thus to them, Who has ordained a decree for you to build this house, and to provide this preparation?

τότε ταῦτα εἴποσαν αὐτοῖς· τίνα ἐστὶ τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν ἀνδρῶν τῶν οἰκοδομούντων τὴν πόλιν ταύτην;	Then they spoke thus to them, What are the names of the men that build this city?

καὶ οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐπὶ τὴν αἰχμαλωσίαν ᾿Ιούδα, καὶ οὐ κατήργησαν αὐτοὺς ἕως γνώμη τῷ Δαρείῳ ἀπηνέχθη· καὶ τότε ἀπεστάλη τῷ φορολόγῳ ὑπὲρ τούτου.	But the eyes of God were upon the captivity of Juda, and they did not cause them to cease till the decree was brought to Darius; and then was sent by the tribute-gatherer concerning this

Διασάφησις ἐπιστολῆς, ἧς ἀπέστειλε Θανθαναΐ ὁ ἔπαρχος τοῦ πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ καὶ Σαθαρβουζαναΐ καὶ οἱ σύνδουλοι αὐτῶν ᾿Αφαρσαχαῖοι οἱ ἐν τῷ πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ Δαρείῳ τῷ βασιλεῖ·	the copy of a letter, which Thanthanai, the governor of the part on this side the river, and Satharbuzanai, and their fellow-servants the Apharsachæans who were on this side of the river, sent to king Darius.

ρήμασι ἀπέστειλαν πρὸς αὐτόν, καὶ τάδε γέγραπται ἐν αὐτῶ· «Δαρείῳ τῷ βασιλεῖ εἰρήνη πᾶσα.	They sent an account to him, and thus it was written in it: All peace to king Darius.

γνωστὸν ἔστω τῷ βασιλεῖ ὅτι ἐπορεύθημεν εἰς τὴν ᾿Ιουδαίαν χώραν εἰς οἶκον τοῦ Θεοῦ τοῦ μεγάλου, καὶ αὐτὸς οἰκοδομεῖται λίθοις ἐκλεκτοῖς, καὶ ξύλα ἐντίθενται ἐν τοῖς τοίχοις, καὶ τὸ ἔργον ἐκεῖνο ἐπιδέξιον γίνεται καὶ εὐοδοῦται ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτῶν.	Be it known to the king, that we went into the land of Judea, to the house of the great God; and it is building with choice stones, and they are laying timbers in the walls, and that work is prospering, and goes on favourably in their hands.

τότε ἠρωτήσαμεν τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους ἐκείνους, καὶ οὕτως εἴπαμεν αὐτοῖς· τίς ἔθηκεν ὑμῖν γνώμην τὸν οἶκον τοῦτον οἰκοδομῆσαι καὶ τὴν χορηγίαν ταύτην καταρτίσασθαι;	Then we asked those elders, and thus we said to them, Who gave you the order to build this house, and to provide this preparation?

καὶ τὰ ὀνόματα αὐτῶν ἠρωτήσαμεν αὐτοὺς γνωρίσαι σοι, ὥστε γράψαι σοι τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν ἀνδρῶν τῶν ἀρχόντων αὐτῶν.	And we asked them their names, in order to declare them to thee, so as to write to thee the names of their leading men.

καὶ τοιοῦτο τὸ ρῆμα ἀπεκρίθησαν ἡμῖν λέγοντες· ἡμεῖς ἐσμεν δοῦλοι τοῦ Θεοῦ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ τῆς γῆς καὶ οἰκοδομοῦμεν τὸν οἶκον, ὃς ἦν ᾠκοδομημένος πρὸ τούτου ἔτη πολλά, καὶ βασιλεὺς τοῦ ᾿Ισραὴλ μέγας ᾠκοδόμησεν αὐτὸν καὶ κατηρτίσατο αὐτὸν αὐτοῖς.	And they answered us thus, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we are building the house which had been built many years before this, and a great king of Israel built it, and established it for them.

ἀφ᾿ ὅτε δὲ παρώργισαν οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν τὸν Θεὸν τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, ἔδωκεν αὐτοὺς εἰς χεῖρας Ναβουχοδονόσορ βασιλέως Βαβυλῶνος τοῦ Χαλδαίου καὶ τὸν οἶκον τοῦτον κατέλυσε καὶ τὸν λαὸν ἀπῴκισεν εἰς Βαβυλῶνα.	But after that our fathers provoked the God of heaven, he gave them into the hands of Nabuchodonosor the Chaldean, king of Babylon, and he destroyed this house, and carried the people captive to Babylon.

ἀλλ᾿ ἐν ἔτει πρώτῳ Κύρου τοῦ βασιλέως Κῦρος ὁ βασιλεὺς ἔθετο γνώμην τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Θεοῦ τοῦτον οἰκοδομηθῆναι.	And in the first year of king Cyrus, Cyrus the king made a decree that this house of God should be built.

καὶ τὰ σκεύη τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ τὰ χρυσᾶ καὶ τὰ ἀργυρᾶ, ἃ Ναβουχοδονόσορ ἐξήνεγκεν ἀπὸ τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ καὶ ἀπήνεγκεν αὐτὰ εἰς τὸν ναὸν τοῦ βασιλέως, ἐξήνεγκεν αὐτὰ Κῦρος ὁ βασιλεὺς ἀπὸ τοῦ ναοῦ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ἔδωκε τῷ Σαβανασὰρ τῷ θησαυροφύλακι, τῷ ἐπὶ τοῦ θησαυροῦ	And the gold and silver vessels of the house of God, which Nabuchodonosor brought out from the house that was in Jerusalem, and carried them into the temple of the king, them did king Cyrus bring out from the temple of the king, and gave them to Sabanasar the treasurer, who was over the treasure;

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· πάντα τὰ σκεύη λάβε καὶ πορεύου, θὲς αὐτὰ ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τῷ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ εἰς τὸν τόπον αὐτῶν.	and said to him, Take all the vessels, and go, put them in the house that is in Jerusalem in their place.
16	16
τότε Σαβανασὰρ ἐκεῖνος ἦλθε καὶ ἔδωκε θεμελίους τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ· καὶ ἀπὸ τότε ἕως τοῦ νῦν ᾠκοδομήθη καὶ οὐκ ἐτελέσθη.	Then that Sabanazar came, and laid the foundations of the house of God in Jerusalem: and from that time even until now it has been building, and has not been finished.
17	17
καὶ νῦν εἰ ἐπὶ τὸν βασιλέα ἀγαθόν, ἐπισκεπήτω ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τῆς γάζης τοῦ βασιλέως Βαβυλῶνος, ὅπως γνῷς ὅτι ἀπὸ βασιλέως Κύρου ἐτέθη γνώμη οἰκοδομῆσαι τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐκεῖνον τὸν ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ. καὶ γνοὺς ὁ βασιλεὺς περὶ τούτου πεμψάτω πρὸς ἡμᾶς».	And now, if it seem good to the king, let search be made in the treasure-house of the king at Babylon, that thou mayest know if it be that a decree was made by king Cyrus to build that house of God that was in Jerusalem, and let the king send to us when he has learnt concerning this matter.

ΤΟΤΕ Δαρεῖος ὁ βασιλεὺς ἔθηκε γνώμην καὶ ἐπεσκέψατο ἐν ταῖς βιβλιοθήκαις, ὅπου ἡ γάζα κεῖται ἐν Βαβυλῶνι.	Then Darius the king made a decree, and caused a search to be made in the record-offices, where the treasure is stored in Babylon.

καὶ εὑρέθη ἐν πόλει ἐν τῇ βάρει κεφαλὶς μία, καὶ τοῦτο ἦν γεγραμμένον ἐν αὐτῇ ὑπόμνημα·	And there was found in the city, in the palace, a volume, and this was the record written in it.

«᾿Εν ἔτει πρώτῳ Κύρου βασιλέως Κῦρος ὁ βασιλεὺς ἔθηκε γνώμην περὶ οἴκου Θεοῦ τοῦ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ· οἶκος οἰκοδομηθήτω καὶ τόπος, οὗ θυσιάζουσι τὰ θυσιάσματα· καὶ ἔθηκεν ἔπαρμα ὕψος πήχεις ἑξήκοντα, πλάτος αὐτοῦ πήχεων ἑξήκοντα,	In the first year of king Cyrus, Cyrus the king made a decree concerning the holy house of God that was in Jerusalem, saying, Let the house be built, and the place where they sacrifice the sacrifices. (Also he appointed its elevation, in height sixty cubits; its breadth was of sixty cubits.)

καὶ δόμοι λίθινοι κραταιοὶ τρεῖς, καὶ δόμος ξύλινος εἷς, καὶ ἡ δαπάνη ἐξ οἴκου τοῦ βασιλέως δοθήσεται·	And let there be three strong layers of stone, and one layer of timber; and the expense shall be paid out of the house of the king.

καὶ τὰ σκεύη οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ τὰ ἀργυρᾶ καὶ τὰ χρυσᾶ, ἃ Ναβουχοδονόσορ ἐξήνεγκεν ἀπὸ τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ καὶ ἐκόμισεν εἰς Βαβυλῶνα, καὶ δοθήτω καὶ ἀπελθέτω εἰς τὸν ναὸν τὸν ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ ἐπὶ τόπου, οὗ ἐτέθη ἐν οἴκῳ τοῦ Θεοῦ.	And the silver and the gold vessels of the house of God, which Nabuchodonosor carried off from the house that was in Jerusalem, and carried to Babylon, let them even be given, and be carried to the temple that is in Jerusalem, and put in the place where they were set in the house of God.

νῦν δώσετε, ἔπαρχοι πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ Σαθαρβουζαναΐ καὶ οἱ σύνδουλοι αὐτῶν ᾿Αφαρσαχαῖοι οἱ ἐν τῷ πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ, μακρὰν ὄντες ἐκεῖθεν	Now, ye rulers beyond the river, Satharbuzanai, and their fellow-servants the Apharsachæans, who are on the other side of the river, give these things, keeping far from that place.

νῦν ἄφετε τὸ ἔργον οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ· οἱ ἀφηγούμενοι τῶν ᾿Ιουδαίων καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τῶν ᾿Ιουδαίων οἶκον τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐκεῖνον οἰκοδομείτωσαν ἐπὶ τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ.	Now let alone the work of the house of God: let the rulers of the Jews and the elders of the Jews build that house of God on its place.
8	8
καὶ ἀπ᾿ ἐμοῦ γνώμη ἐτέθη, μὴ ποτέ τι ποιήσητε μετὰ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων τῶν ᾿Ιουδαίων τοῦ οἰκοδομηθῆναι οἶκον τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐκεῖνον· καὶ ἀπὸ ὑπαρχόντων βασιλέως τῶν φόρων πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ ἐπιμελῶς δαπάνη ἔστω διδομένη τοῖς ἀνδράσιν ἐκείνοις τὸ μὴ καταργηθῆναι·	Also a decree has been made by me, if haply ye may do somewhat in concert with the elders of the Jews for the building of that house of God: to wit, out of the king's property, even the tributes beyond the river, let there be money to defray the expenses carefully granted to those men, so that they be not hindered.
9	9
καὶ ὃ ἂν ὑστέρημα, καὶ υἱοὺς βοῶν καὶ κριῶν καὶ ἀμνοὺς εἰς ὁλοκαυτώσεις τῷ Θεῷ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, πυρούς, ἅλας, οἶνον, ἔλαιον, κατὰ τὸ ρῆμα ἱερέων τῶν ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ ἔστω διδόμενον αὐτοῖς ἡμέραν ἐν ἡμέρᾳ, ὃ ἐὰν αἰτήσωσιν,	And whatever need there may be, ye shall give both the young of bulls and rams, and lambs for whole-burnt-offerings to the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine, oil:—let it be given them according to the word of the priests that are in Jerusalem, day by day whatsoever they shall ask;

ἵνα ὦσιν εὐωδίας προσφέροντες τῷ Θεῷ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ προσεύχωνται εἰς ζωὴν τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ υἱῶν αὐτοῦ.	that they may offer sweet savours to the God of heaven, and that they may pray for the life of the king and his sons.
11	11
καὶ ἀπ᾿ ἐμοῦ ἐτέθη γνώμη ὅτι πᾶς ἄνθρωπος, ὃς ἀλλάξει τὸ ρῆμα τοῦτο, καθαιρεθήσεται ξύλον ἐκ τῆς οἰκίας αὐτοῦ καὶ ὠρθωμένος παγήσεται ἐπ᾿ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ὁ οἶκος αὐτοῦ τὸ κατ᾿ ἐμὲ ποιηθήσεται.	And a decree has been made by me, that every man who shall alter this word, timber shall be pulled down from his house, and let him be lifted up and slain upon it, and his house shall be confiscated.

καὶ ὁ Θεός, οὗ κατασκηνοῖ τὸ ὄνομα ἐκεῖ, καταστρέψει πάντα βασιλέα καὶ λαόν, ὃς ἐκτενεῖ τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ ἀλλάξαι ἢ ἀφανίσαι τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Θεοῦ τὸν ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ. ἐγὼ Δαρεῖος ἔθηκα γνώμην· ἐπιμελῶς ἔσται».	And may the God whose name dwells there, overthrow every king and people who shall stretch out his hand to alter or destroy the house of God which is in Jerusalem. I Darius have made a decree; let it be diligently attended to.

Τότε Θανθαναΐ ὁ ἔπαρχος πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ, Σαθαρβουζαναΐ καὶ οἱ σύνδουλοι αὐτοῦ, πρὸς ὃ ἀπέστειλε Δαρεῖος ὁ βασιλεύς, οὕτως ἐποίησαν ἐπιμελῶς.	Then Thanthanai the governor on this side beyond the river, Satharbuzanai, and his fellow-servants, according to that which king Darius sent, so they did diligently.
14	14
καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τῶν ᾿Ιουδαίων ᾠκοδομοῦσαν καὶ οἱ Λευῖται ἐν προφητείᾳ ᾿Αγγαίου τοῦ προφήτου καὶ Ζαχαρίου υἱοῦ ᾿Αδδὼ καὶ ἀνῳκοδόμησαν καὶ κατηρτίσαντο ἀπὸ γνώμης Θεοῦ ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ ἀπὸ γνώμης Κύρου καὶ Δαρείου καὶ ᾿Αρθασασθὰ βασιλέων Περσῶν.	And the elders of the Jews and the Levites built, at the prophecy of Aggæus the prophet, and Zacharias the son of Addo: and they built up, and finished it, by the decree of the God of Israel, and by the decree of Cyrus, and Darius, and Arthasastha, kings of the Persians.
15	15
καὶ ἐτέλεσαν τὸν οἶκον τοῦτον ἕως ἡμέρας τρίτης μηνὸς ᾿Αδάρ, ὅ ἐστιν ἔτος ἕκτον τῆς βασιλείας Δαρείου τοῦ βασιλέως.	And they finished this house by the third day of the month Adar, which is the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king.
16	16
καὶ ἐποίησαν οἱ υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραήλ, οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται καὶ οἱ κατάλοιποι υἱῶν ἀποικεσίας, ἐγκαίνια τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐν εὐφροσύνῃ.	And the children of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the children of the captivity, kept the dedication of the house of God with gladness.
17	17
καὶ προσήνεγκαν εἰς τὰ ἐγκαίνια τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ μόσχους ἑκατόν, κριοὺς διακοσίους, ἀμνοὺς τετρακοσίους, χιμάρους αἰγῶν ὑπὲρ ἁμαρτίας ὑπὲρ παντὸς ᾿Ισραὴλ δώδεκα εἰς ἀριθμὸν φυλῶν ᾿Ισραήλ.	And they offered for the dedication of the house of God a hundred calves, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs, twelve kids of the goats for a sin-offering for all Israel, according to the number of the tribes of Israel.

καὶ ἔστησαν τοὺς ἱερεῖς ἐν διαιρέσεσιν αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς Λευίτας ἐν μερισμοῖς αὐτῶν ἐπὶ δουλείᾳ Θεοῦ τοῦ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ κατὰ τὴν γραφὴν βίβλου Μωυσῆ.	And they set the priests in their divisions, and the Levites in their separate orders, for the services of God in Jerusalem, according to the writing of the book of Moses.
19	19
Καὶ ἐποίησαν οἱ υἱοὶ τῆς ἀποικεσίας τὸ πάσχα τῇ τεσσαρεσκαιδεκάτῃ τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ πρώτου.	And the children of the captivity kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month.
20	20
ὅτι ἐκαθαρίσθησαν οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ Λευῖται, ἕως εἷς πάντες καθαροί, καὶ ἔσφαξαν τὸ πάσχα τοῖς πᾶσιν υἱοῖς τῆς ἀποικεσίας καὶ τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς αὐτῶν τοῖς ἱερεῦσι καὶ ἑαυτοῖς.	For the priests and Levites were purified, all were clean to a man, and they slew the passover for all the children of the captivity, and for their brethren the priests, and for themselves.

καὶ ἔφαγον υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ τὸ πάσχα, οἱ ἀπὸ τῆς ἀποικεσίας καὶ πᾶς ὁ χωριζόμενος τῆς ἀκαθαρσίας ἐθνῶν τῆς γῆς πρὸς αὐτοὺς τοῦ ἐκζητῆσαι Κύριον Θεὸν ᾿Ισραήλ.	And the children of Israel ate the passover, even they that were of the captivity, and every one who separated himself to them from the uncleanness of the nations of the land, to seek the Lord God of Israel.

καὶ ἐποίησαν τὴν ἑορτὴν τῶν ἀζύμων ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας ἐν εὐφροσύνῃ, ὅτι εὔφρανεν αὐτοὺς Κύριος καὶ ἐπέστρεψε καρδίαν βασιλέως ᾿Ασσοὺρ ἐπ᾿ αὐτοὺς κραταιῶσαι τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῶν ἐν ἔργοις οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ ᾿Ισραήλ.	And they kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with gladness, because the Lord made them glad, and he turned the heart of the king of Assyria to them, to strengthen their hands in the works of the house of the God of Israel.

ΚΑΙ μετὰ τὰ ρήματα ταῦτα ἐν βασιλείᾳ ᾿Αρθασασθὰ βασιλέως Περσῶν ἀνέβη ῎Εσδρας υἱὸς Σαραίου, υἱοῦ ᾿Αζαρίου, υἱοῦ Χελκία,	Now after these things, in the reign of Arthasastha king of the Persians, came up Esdras the son of Saraias, the son of Azarias, the son of Chelcias,

υἱοῦ Σελούμ, υἱοῦ Σαδδούκ, υἱοῦ ᾿Αχιτώβ,	the son of Selum, the son of Sadduc, the son of Achitob,

υἱοῦ Σαμαρία, υἱοῦ ᾿Εσριά, υἱοῦ Μαρεώθ,	the son of Samarias, the son of Esria, the son of Mareoth,

υἱοῦ Ζαραΐα, υἱοῦ ᾿Οζίου, υἱοῦ Βοκκί,	the son of Zaraia, the son of Ozias, the son of Bokki,

υἱοῦ ᾿Αβισουέ, υἱοῦ Φινεές, υἱοῦ ᾿Ελεάζαρ, υἱοῦ ᾿Ααρὼν τοῦ ἱερέως τοῦ πρώτου·	the son of Abisue, the son of Phinees, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the first priest.

αὐτὸς ῎Εσδρας ἀνέβη ἐκ Βαβυλῶνος, καὶ αὐτὸς γραμματεὺς ταχὺς ἐν νόμῳ Μωυσῇ, ὃν ἔδωκε Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ᾿Ισραήλ. καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ ὁ βασιλεύς, ὅτι χεὶρ Κυρίου Θεοῦ αὐτοῦ ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸν ἐν πᾶσιν, οἷς ἐζήτει αὐτός.	This Esdras went up out of Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the Lord God of Israel gave: and the king gave him leave, for the hand of the Lord his God was upon him in all things which he sought.

καὶ ἀνέβησαν ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ἱερέων καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν Λευιτῶν καὶ οἱ ἄδοντες καὶ οἱ πυλωροὶ καὶ οἱ Ναθινὶμ εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ ἐν ἔτει ἑβδόμῳ τῷ ᾿Αρθασασθὰ τῷ βασιλεῖ.	And some of the children of Israel went up, and some of the priests, and of the Levites, and the singers, and the door-keepers, and the Nathinim, to Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Arthasastha the king.

καὶ ἤλθοσαν εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ τῷ μηνὶ τῷ πέμπτῳ, τοῦτο τὸ ἔτος ἕβδομον τῷ βασιλεῖ·	And they came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, this was the seventh year of the king.

ὅτι ἐν μιᾷ τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ πρώτου αὐτὸς ἐθεμελίωσε τὴν ἀνάβασιν τὴν ἀπὸ Βαβυλῶνος, ἐν δὲ τῇ πρώτῃ τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ πέμπτου ἤλθοσαν εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλήμ, ὅτι χεὶρ Θεοῦ αὐτοῦ ἦν ἀγαθὴ ἐπ᾿ αὐτόν.	For in the first day of the first month he began the going up from Babylon, and in the first day of the fifth month they came to Jerusalem, for the good hand of his God was upon him.

ὅτι ῎Εσρας ἔδωκεν ἐν καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ ζητῆσαι τὸν νόμον καὶ ποιεῖν καὶ διδάσκειν ἐν ᾿Ισραὴλ προστάγματα καὶ κρίματα.	For Esdras had determined in his heart to seek the law, and to do and teach the ordinances and judgments in Israel.
11	11
Καὶ αὕτη ἡ διασάφησις τοῦ διατάγματος, οὗ ἔδωκεν ᾿Αρθασασθὰ τῷ ῎Εσδρᾳ τῷ ἱερεῖ τῷ γραμματεῖ βιβλίου λόγων ἐντολῶν Κυρίου καὶ προσταγμάτων αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὸν ᾿Ισραήλ·	And this is the copy of the order which Arthasastha gave to Esdras the priest, the scribe of the book of the words of the commandments of the Lord, and of his ordinances to Israel.

«᾿Αρθασασθὰ βασιλεὺς βασιλέων ῎Εσδρᾳ γραμματεῖ νόμου Κυρίου τοῦ Θεοῦ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ· τετέλεσθαι λόγος καὶ ἡ ἀπόκρισις.	Arthasastha, king of kings, to Esdras, the scribe of the law of the Lord God of heaven, Let the order and the answer be accomplished.
13	13
ἀπ᾿ ἐμοῦ ἐτέθη γνώμη ὅτι πᾶς ὁ ἑκουσιαζόμενος ἐν βασιλείᾳ μου ἀπὸ λαοῦ ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ ἱερέων καὶ Λευιτῶν πορευθῆναι εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλήμ, μετὰ σοῦ πορευθῆναι.	A decree is made by me, that every one who is willing in my kingdom of the people of Israel, and of the priests and Levites, to go to Jerusalem, be permitted to go with thee.
14	14
ἀπὸ προσώπου τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ τῶν ἑπτὰ συμβούλων ἀπεστάλη ἐπισκέψασθαι ἐπὶ τὴν ᾿Ιουδαίαν καὶ εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ νόμῳ Θεοῦ αὐτῶν τῷ ἐν χειρί σου	One has been sent from the king and the seven councillors, to visit Judea and Jerusalem, according to the law of their God that is in thine hand.
15	15
καὶ εἰς οἶκον Κυρίου ἀργύριον καὶ χρυσίον, ὃ ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ οἱ σύμβουλοι ἑκουσιάσθησαν τῷ Θεῷ τοῦ ᾿Ισραὴλ τῷ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ κατασκηνοῦντι,	And for the house of the Lord there have been sent silver and gold, which the king and the councillors have freely given to the God of Israel, who dwells in Jerusalem.

καὶ πᾶν ἀργύριον καὶ χρυσίον, ὅ,τι ἐὰν εὕρῃς ἐν πάσῃ χώρᾳ Βαβυλῶνος μετὰ ἑκουσιασμοῦ τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ ἱερέων τῶν ἑκουσιαζομένων εἰς οἶκον Θεοῦ τὸν ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ,	And all the silver and gold, whatsoever thou shalt find in all the land of Babylon, with the freewill-offering of the people, and the priests that offer freely for the house of God which is in Jerusalem.

καὶ πάντα προσπορευόμενον τοῦτον ἑτοίμως ἔνταξον ἐν βιβλίῳ τούτῳ, μόσχους, κριούς, ἀμνοὺς καὶ θυσίας αὐτῶν καὶ σπονδὰς αὐτῶν, καὶ προσοίσεις αὐτὰ ἐπὶ τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ ὑμῶν τοῦ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ.	And as for every one that arrives there, speedily order him by this letter to bring calves, rams, lambs, and their meat-offerings, and their drink-offerings; and thou shalt offer them on the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.

καὶ εἴ τι ἐπὶ σὲ καὶ τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου ἀγαθυνθῇ ἐν καταλοίπῳ τοῦ ἀργυρίου καὶ τοῦ χρυσίου ποιῆσαι, ὡς ἀρεστὸν τῷ Θεῷ ὑμῶν ποιήσατε.	And whatever it shall seem good to thee and to thy brethren to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, do as it is pleasing to your God.
19	19
καὶ τὰ σκεύη τὰ διδόμενά σοι εἰς λειτουργίαν οἴκου Θεοῦ παράδος ἐνώπιον τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ.	And deliver the vessels that are given thee for the service of the house of God, before God in Jerusalem.
20	20
καὶ κατάλοιπον χρείας οἴκου Θεοῦ σου, ὃ ἂν φανῇ σοι δοῦναι, δώσεις ἀπὸ οἴκων γάζης βασιλέως	And as to the rest of the need of the house of thy God, thou shalt give from the king's treasure-houses,
21	21
καὶ ἀπ᾿ ἐμοῦ. ἐγὼ ᾿Αρθασασθὰ βασιλεὺς ἔθηκα γνώμην πάσαις ταῖς γάζαις ταῖς ἐν πέρᾳ τοῦ ποταμοῦ, ὅτι πᾶν, ὃ ἄν αἰτήσῃ ὑμᾶς ῎Εδρας ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ γραμματεὺς τοῦ Θεοῦ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, ἑτοίμως γινέσθω,	and from me, whatever it shall seem good to thee to give. I king Arthasastha have made a decree for all the treasuries that are in the country beyond the river, that whatever Esdras the priest and scribe of the God of heaven may ask you, it shall be done speedily,
22	22
ἕως ἀργυρίου ταλάντων ἑκατὸν καὶ ἕως πυροῦ κόρων ἑκατὸν καὶ ἕως οἴνου βατῶν ἑκατὸν καὶ ἕως ἐλαίου βατῶν ἑκατὸν καὶ ἅλας οὗ οὐκ ἔστι γραφή.	to the amount of a hundred talents of silver, and a hundred measures of wheat, and a hundred baths of wine, and a hundred baths of oil, and salt without reckoning.
23	23
πᾶν ὅ ἐστιν ἐν γνώμῃ Θεοῦ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, γινέσθω. προσέχετε μή τις ἐπιχειρήσῃ εἰς τὸν οἶκον Θεοῦ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, μή ποτε γένηται ὀργὴ ἐπὶ τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ τῶν υἱῶν αὐτοῦ.	Let whatever is in the decree of the God of heaven, be done: take heed lest any one make an attack on the house of the God of heaven, lest at any time there should be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons.
24	24
καὶ ὑμῖν ἐγνώρισται ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς ἱερεῦσι καὶ τοῖς Λευίταις, ᾄδουσι, πυλωροῖς, Ναθινὶμ καὶ λειτουργοῖς οἴκου Θεοῦ τοῦτο, φόρος μὴ ἔστω σοι, οὐκ ἐξουσιάσεις καταδουλοῦσθαι αὐτούς.	Also this has been declared to you, with respect to all the priests, and Levites, the singers, porters, Nathinim and ministers of the house of God, let no tribute be paid to thee; thou shalt not have power to oppress them.
25	25
καὶ σύ, ῎Εσδρα, ὡς ἡ σοφία τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐν χειρί σου, κατάστησον γραμματεῖς καὶ κριτάς, ἵνα ὦσι κρίνοντες παντὶ τῷ λαῷ ἐν πέρᾳ τοῦ ποταμοῦ πᾶσι τοῖς εἰδόσι νόμον τοῦ Θεοῦ σου, καὶ τῷ μὴ εἰδότι γνωριεῖτε.	And thou, Esdras, as the wisdom of God is in thy hand, appoint scribes and judges, that they may judge for all the people beyond the river, all that know the law of the Lord thy God; and ye shall make it known to him that knows not.
26	26
καὶ πᾶς, ὃς ἂν μὴ ᾖ ποιῶν νόμον τοῦ Θεοῦ καὶ νόμον τοῦ βασιλέως ἑτοίμως, τὸ κρίμα ἔσται γινόμενον ἐξ αὐτοῦ, ἐάν τε εἰς θάνατον ἐάν τε εἰς παιδείαν ἐάν τε εἰς ζημίαν τοῦ βίου ἐάν τε εἰς παράδοσιν».	And whosoever shall not do the law of God, and the law of the king readily, judgment shall be taken upon him, whether for death or for chastisement, or for a fine of his property, or casting into prison.

Εὐλογητὸς Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν, ὃς ἔδωκεν ἐν καρδίᾳ τοῦ βασιλέως οὕτως, τοῦ δοξάσαι τὸν οἶκον Κυρίου τὸν ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ.	Blessed be the Lord God of our fathers, who has put it thus into the heart of the king, to glorify the house of the Lord which is in Jerusalem;
28	28
καὶ ἐπ᾿ ἐμὲ ἔκλινεν ἔλεος ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ τῶν συμβούλων αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντων τῶν ἀρχόντων τοῦ βασιλέως τῶν ἐπῃρμένων. καὶ ἐγὼ ἐκραταιώθην ὡς χεὶρ Θεοῦ ἡ ἀγαθὴ ἐπ᾿ ἐμέ, καὶ συνῆξα ἀπὸ ᾿Ισραὴλ ἄρχοντας ἀναβῆναι μετ᾿ ἐμοῦ.	and has given me favour in the eyes of the king, and of his councillors, and all the rulers of the king, the exalted ones. And I was strengthened according to the good hand of God upon me, and I gathered chief men of Israel to go up with me.

ΚΑΙ οὗτοι οἱ ἄρχοντες πατριῶν αὐτῶν, οἱ ὁδηγοὶ ἀναβαίνοντες μετ᾿ ἐμοῦ ἐν βασιλείᾳ ᾿Αρθασασθὰ τοῦ βασιλέως Βαβυλῶνος·	And these are the heads of their families, the leaders that went up with me in the reign of Arthasastha the king of Babylon.

ἀπὸ υἱῶν Φινεές, Γηρσών· ἀπὸ υἱῶν ᾿Ιθάμαρ, Δανιήλ· ἀπὸ υἱῶν Δαυίδ, ᾿Αττούς·	Of the sons of Phinees; Gerson: of the sons of Ithamar; Daniel: of the sons of David; Attus.

ἀπὸ υἱῶν Σαχανία καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν Φόρος, Ζαχαρίας καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ τὸ σύστρεμμα ἑκατὸν καὶ πεντήκοντα·	Of the sons of Sachania, and of the sons of Phoros; Zacharias: and with him a company of a hundred and fifty.

ἀπὸ υἱῶν Φαὰθ Μωάβ, ᾿Ελιανὰ υἱὸς Σαραΐα καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ διακόσιοι τὰ ἀρσενικά·	Of the sons of Phaath-Moab; Eliana the son of Saraia, and with him two hundred that were males.

καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν Ζαθόης, Σεχενίας υἱὸς ᾿Αζιὴλ καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ τριακόσια τὰ ἀρσενικά·	And of the sons of Zathoes; Sechenias the son of Aziel, and with him three hundred males.

καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν ᾿Αδίν, ᾿Ωβὴθ υἱὸς ᾿Ιωνάθαν καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ πεντήκοντα τὰ ἀρσενικά·	And of the sons of Adin; Obeth the son of Jonathan, and with him fifty males.

καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν ᾿Ηλάμ, ᾿Ιεσία υἱὸς ᾿Αθελία καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ ἑβδομήκοντα τὰ ἀρσενικά·	And of the sons of Elam; Isæas the son of Athelia, and with him seventy males.

καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν Σαφατία, Ζαβαδίας υἱὸς Μιχαὴλ καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ ὀγδοήκοντα τὰ ἀρσενικά·	And of the sons of Saphatia; Zabadias the son of Michael, and with him eighty males.

καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν ᾿Ιωάβ, ᾿Αβαδία υἱὸς ᾿Ιεϊὴλ καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ διακόσιοι δεκαοκτὼ τὰ ἀρσενικά·	And of the sons of Joab; Abadia the son of Jeiel, and with him two hundred and eighteen males.

καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν Βαανί, Σελιμοὺθ υἱὸς ᾿Ιωσεφία καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ ἑκατὸν ἑξήκοντα τὰ ἀρσενικά·	And of the sons of Baani; Selimuth the son of Josephia, and with him a hundred and sixty males.

καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν Βαβί, Ζαχαρίας υἱὸς Βαβὶ καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ εἰκοσιοκτὼ τὰ ἀρσενικά·	And of the sons of Babi; Zacharias the son of Babi, and with him twenty-eight males.

καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν ᾿Ασγάδ, ᾿Ιωανὰν υἱὸς ᾿Ακκατὰν καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ ἑκατὸν δέκα τὰ ἀρσενικά·	And of the sons of Asgad; Joanan the son of Accatan, and with him a hundred and ten males.

καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν ᾿Αδωνικὰμ ἔσχατοι καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα αὐτῶν· ᾿Ελιφαλάτ, ᾿Ιεὴλ καὶ Σαμαΐα καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτῶν ἑξήκοντα τὰ ἀρσενικά·	And of the sons of Adonicam were the last, and these were their names, Eliphalat, Jeel, and Samæa, and with them sixty males.

καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν Βαγουαΐ, Οὐθαΐ καὶ Ζαβοὺδ καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ ἑβδομήκοντα τὰ ἀρσενικά.	And of the sons of Baguæ, Uthai, and Zabud, and with him seventy males.
15	15
Καὶ συνῆξα αὐτοὺς πρὸς τὸν ποταμὸν τὸν ἐρχόμενον πρὸς τὸν Εὐί, καὶ παρενεβάλομεν ἐκεῖ ἡμέρας τρεῖς. καὶ συνῆκα ἐν τῷ λαῷ καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἱερεῦσι, καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν Λευὶ οὐχ εὗρον ἐκεῖ.	And I gathered them to the river that comes to Evi, and we encamped there three days: and I reviewed the people and the priests, and found none of the sons of Levi there.
16	16
καὶ ἀπέστειλα τῷ ᾿Ελεάζαρ, τῷ ᾿Αριήλ, τῷ Σεμεΐᾳ καὶ τῷ ᾿Αλωνὰμ καὶ τῷ ᾿Ιαρὶβ καὶ τῷ ᾿Ελνάθαμ καὶ τῷ Νάθαν καὶ τῷ Ζαχαρίᾳ καὶ τῷ Μεσολλὰμ καὶ τῷ ᾿Ιωαρὶμ καὶ τῷ ᾿Ελνάθαν συνίοντας.	And I sent men of understanding to Eleazar, to Ariel, to Semeias, and to Alonam, and to Jarib, and to Elnatham, and to Nathan, and to Zacharias, and to Mesollam, and to Joarim, and to Elnathan.

καὶ ἐξήνεγκα αὐτοὺς ἐπὶ ἄρχοντας ἐν ἀργυρίῳ τοῦ τόπου καὶ ἔθηκα ἐν στόματι αὐτῶν λόγους λαλῆσαι πρὸς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτῶν τοὺς ναθινὶμ ἐν ἀργυρίῳ τοῦ τόπου τοῦ ἐνέγκαι ὑμῖν ᾄδοντας εἰς οἶκον Θεοῦ ἡμῶν.	And I forwarded them to the rulers with the money of the place, and I put words in their mouth to speak to their brethren the Athinim with the money of the place, that they should bring us singers for the house of our God.
18	18
καὶ ἤλθοσαν ἡμῖν, ὡς χεὶρ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν ἀγαθὴ ἐφ᾿ ἡμᾶς, ἀνὴρ Σαχὼν ἀπὸ υἱῶν Μοολί, υἱοῦ Λευί, υἱοῦ ᾿Ισραήλ· καὶ ἀρχὴν ἦλθον οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ δεκαοκτώ·	And they came to us, as the good hand of our God was upon us, even a man of understanding of the sons of Mooli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel, and at the commencement came his sons and his brethren, eighteen.
19	19
καὶ τὸν ᾿Ασεβία καὶ τὸν ᾿Ισαΐα ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν Μεραρί, ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ εἴκοσι·	And Asebia, and Isaia of the sons of Merari, his brethren and his sons, twenty.
20	20
καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ναθινίμ, ὧν ἔδωκε Δαυὶδ καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες εἰς δουλείαν τῶν Λευιτῶν, ναθινὶμ διακόσιοι εἴκοσι· πάντες συνήχθησαν ἐν ὀνόμασι.	And of the Nathinim, whom David and the princes had appointed for the service of the Levites there were two hundred and twenty Nathinim; all were gathered by their names.
21	21
καὶ ἐκάλεσα ἐκεῖ νηστείαν ἐπὶ τὸν ποταμὸν ᾿Αουὲ τοῦ ταπεινωθῆναι ἐνώπιον τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν, ζητῆσαι παρ᾿ αὐτοῦ ὁδὸν εὐθεῖαν ἡμῖν καὶ τοῖς τέκνοις ἡμῶν καὶ πάσῃ τῇ κτίσει ἡμῶν.	And I proclaimed there a fast, at the river Aüe, that we should humble ourselves before our God, to seek of him a straight way for us, and for our children, and for all our property.
22	22
ὅτι ᾔσχύνθην αἰτήσασθαι παρὰ τοῦ βασιλέως δύναμιν καὶ ἱππεῖς σῶσαι ἡμᾶς ἀπὸ ἐχθροῦ ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ, ὅτι εἴπαμεν τῷ βασιλεῖ λέγοντες· χεὶρ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν ἐπὶ πάντας τοὺς ζητοῦντας αὐτὸν εἰς ἀγαθόν, καὶ κράτος αὐτοῦ καὶ θυμὸς αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ πάντας τοὺς ἐγκαταλείποντας αὐτόν.	For I was ashamed to ask of the king a guard and horsemen to save us from the enemy in the way: for we had spoken to the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all that seek him, for good; but his power and his wrath are upon all that forsake him.
23	23
καὶ ἐνηστεύσαμεν καὶ ἐζητήσαμεν παρὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν περὶ τούτου, καὶ ἐπήκουσεν ἡμῖν.	So we fasted, and asked of our God concerning this; and he hearkened to us.
24	24
καὶ διέστειλα ἀπὸ ἀρχόντων τῶν ἱερέων δώδεκα, τῷ Σαραΐα, τῷ ᾿Ασαβίᾳ καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτῶν ἀπὸ ἀδελφῶν αὐτῶν δέκα.	And I gave charge to twelve of the chiefs of the priests, to Saraia, to Asabia, and ten of their brethren with them.
25	25
καὶ ἔστησα αὐτοῖς τὸ ἀργύριον καὶ τὸ χρυσίον καὶ τὰ σκεύη ἀπαρχῆς οἴκου Θεοῦ ἡμῶν, ἃ ὕψωσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ οἱ σύμβουλοι αὐτοῦ καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες αὐτοῦ καὶ πᾶς ᾿Ισραὴλ οἱ εὑρισκόμενοι.	And I weighed to them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of the first-fruits of the house of our God, which the king, and his councillors, and his princes, and all Israel that were found, had dedicated.
26	26
καὶ ἔστησα ἐπὶ χεῖρας αὐτῶν ἀργυρίου τάλαντα ἑξακόσια πεντήκοντα καὶ σκεύη ἀργυρᾶ ἑκατὸν καὶ τάλαντα χρυσίου ἑκατὸν	I even weighed into their hands six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and a hundred silver vessels, and a hundred talents of gold;
27	27
καὶ καφουρῆ χρυσοῖ εἴκοσι εἰς τὴν ὁδὸν χαμινὶμ χίλιοι καὶ σκεύη χαλκοῦ στίλβοντος ἀγαθοῦ διάφορα ἐπιθυμητὰ ἐν χρυσίῳ.	and twenty golden bowls, weighing about a thousand drachms, and superior vessels of fine shining brass, precious as gold.
28	28
καὶ εἶπα πρὸς αὐτούς· ὑμεῖς ἅγιοι τῷ Κυρίῳ, καὶ τὰ σκεύη ἅγια, καὶ τὸ ἀργύριον καὶ τὸ χρυσίον ἑκούσια τῷ Κυρίῳ Θεῷ πατέρων ἡμῶν·	And I said to them, Ye are holy to the Lord; and the vessels are holy; and the silver and the gold are freewill-offerings to the Lord God of our fathers.
29	29
ἀγρυπνεῖτε καὶ τηρεῖτε ἕως στῆτε ἐνώπιον ἀρχόντων τῶν ἱερέων καὶ τῶν Λευιτῶν καὶ τῶν ἀρχόντων τῶν πατριῶν ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ εἰς σκηνὰς οἴκου Κυρίου.	Be watchful and keep them, until ye weigh them before the chief priests and the Levites, and the chiefs of families in Jerusalem, at the chambers of the house of the Lord.
30	30
καὶ ἐδέξαντο οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται σταθμὸν τοῦ ἀργυρίου καὶ τοῦ χρυσίου καὶ τῶν σκευῶν ἐνεγκεῖν εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ εἰς οἶκον Θεοῦ ἡμῶν.	So the priests and the Levites took the weight of the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, to bring to Jerusalem into the house of our God.
31	31
Καὶ ἐξῄραμεν ἀπὸ τοῦ ποταμοῦ τοῦ ᾿Αουὲ ἐν τῇ δωδεκάτῃ τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ πρώτου τοῦ ἐλθεῖν εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλήμ· καὶ χεὶρ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν ἦν ἐφ᾿ ἡμῖν, καὶ ἐρρύσατο ἡμᾶς ἀπὸ χειρὸς ἐχθροῦ καὶ πολεμίου ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ.	And we departed from the river of Aüe on the twelfth day of the first month, to come to Jerusalem: and the hand of our God was upon us, and delivered us from the hand of the enemy and adversary in the way.

καὶ ἤλθομεν εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ καὶ ἐκαθίσαμεν ἐκεῖ ἡμέρας τρεῖς.	And we came to Jerusalem, and abode there three days.
33	33
καὶ ἐγενήθη τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τετάρτῃ ἐστήσαμεν τὸ ἀργύριον καὶ τὸ χρυσίον καὶ τὰ σκεύη ἐν οἴκῳ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν ἐπὶ χεῖρα Μεριμὼθ υἱοῦ Οὐρία τοῦ ἱερέως —καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ ᾿Ελεάζαρ υἱὸς Φινεὲς καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτῶν ᾿Ιωζαβὰδ υἱὸς ᾿Ιησοῦ καὶ Νωαδία υἱὸς Βαναΐα, οἱ Λευῖται—	And it came to pass on the fourth day that we weighed the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, in the house of our God, into the hand of Merimoth the son of Uria the priest; and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinees, and with them Jozabad the son of Jesus, and Noadia the son of Banaia, the Levites.
34	34
ἐν ἀριθμῷ καὶ ἐν σταθμῷ τὰ πάντα, καὶ ἐγράφη πᾶς ὁ σταθμός. ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ	All things were reckoned by number and weight, and the whole weight was written down.
35	35
οἱ ἐλθόντες ἐκ τῆς αἰχμαλωσίας υἱοὶ τῆς παροικίας προσήνεγκαν ὁλοκαυτώσεις τῷ Θεῷ ᾿Ισραὴλ μόσχους δώδεκα περὶ παντὸς ᾿Ισραήλ, κριοὺς ἐνενηκονταέξ, ἀμνοὺς ἑβδομηκονταεπτά, χιμάρους περὶ ἁμαρτίας δώδεκα, τὰ πάντα ὁλοκαυτώματα τῷ Κυρίῳ.	At that time the children of the banishment that came from the captivity offered whole-burnt-offerings to the God of Israel, twelve calves for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, twelve goats for a sin-offering: all whole-burnt-offerings to the Lord.

καὶ ἔδωκαν τὸ νόμισμα τοῦ βασιλέως τοῖς διοικηταῖς τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ τοῖς ἐπάρχοις πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ, καὶ ἐδόξασαν τὸν λαὸν καὶ τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Θεοῦ.	And they gave the king's mandate to the king's lieutenants, and the governors beyond the river: and they honoured the people and the house of God.

ΚΑΙ ὡς ἐτελέσθη ταῦτα, ἤγγισαν πρός με οἱ ἄρχοντες λέγοντες· οὐκ ἐχωρίσθη ὁ λαὸς ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται ἀπὸ λαῶν τῶν γαιῶν ἐν μακρύμμασιν αὐτῶν, τῷ Χανανί, ὁ ᾿Εθί, ὁ Φερεζί, ὁ ᾿Ιεβουσί, ὁ ᾿Αμμωνί, ὁ Μωαβὶ καὶ ὁ Μοσερὶ καὶ ὁ ᾿Αμορί,	And when these things were finished, the princes drew near to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands in their abominations, even the Chananite, the Ethite, the Pherezite, the Jebusite, the Ammonite, the Moabite, and the Moserite and the Amorite.

ὅτι ἐλάβοσαν ἀπὸ θυγατέρων αὐτῶν ἑαυτοῖς καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτῶν, καὶ παρήχθη σπέρμα τὸ ἅγιον ἐν λαοῖς τῶν γαιῶν, καὶ χεὶρ τῶν ἀρχόντων ἐν τῇ ἀσυνθεσίᾳ ταύτῃ ἐν ἀρχῇ	For they have taken of their daughters for themselves and their sons; and the holy seed has passed among the nations of the lands, and the hand of the rulers has been first in this transgression.

καὶ ὡς ἤκουσα τὸν λόγον τοῦτον, διέρρηξα τὰ ἱμάτιά μου καὶ ἐπαλλόμην καὶ ἔτιλλον ἀπὸ τῶν τριχῶν τῆς κεφαλῆς μου καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ πώγωνός μου καὶ ἐκαθήμην ἠρεμάζων.	And when I heard this thing, I rent my garments, and trembled, and plucked some of the hairs of my head and of my beard, and sat down mourning.
4	4
καὶ συνήχθησαν πρός με πᾶς ὁ διώκων λόγον Θεοῦ ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐπὶ ἀσυνθεσίᾳ τῆς ἀποικίας, κἀγὼ καθήμενος ἠρεμάζων ἕως τῆς θυσίας τῆς ἑσπερινῆς.	Then there assembled to me all that followed the word of the God of Israel, on account of the transgression of the captivity; and I remained mourning until the evening sacrifice.

καὶ ἐν θυσίᾳ τῇ ἑσπερινῇ ἀνέστην ἀπὸ ταπεινώσεώς μου· καὶ ἐν τῷ διαρρῆξαί με τὰ ἱμάτιά μου καὶ ἐπαλλόμην καὶ κλίνω ἐπὶ τὰ γόνατά μου καὶ ἐκπετάζω τὰς χεῖράς μου πρὸς Κύριον τὸν Θεὸν	And at the evening sacrifice I rose up from my humiliation; and when I had rent my garments, then I trembled, and I bow myself on my knees, and spread out my hands to the Lord God,

καὶ εἶπα· Κύριε, ᾐσχύνθην καὶ ἐνετράπην τοῦ ὑψῶσαι, Θεέ μου, τὸ πρόσωπόν μου πρός σε, ὅτι αἱ ἀνομίαι ἡμῶν ἐπληθύνθησαν ὑπὲρ κεφαλῆς ἡμῶν καὶ αἱ πλημμέλειαι ἡμῶν ἐμεγαλύνθησαν ἕως εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν.	and I said, O Lord, I am ashamed and confounded, O my God, to lift up my face to thee: for our transgressions have abounded over our head, and our trespasses have increased even to heaven.

ἀπὸ ἡμερῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν ἐσμεν ἐν πλημμελείᾳ μεγάλῃ ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης· καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἀνομίαις ἡμῶν παρεδόθημεν ἡμεῖς καὶ οἱ βασιλεῖς ἡμῶν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ ἡμῶν ἐν χειρὶ βασιλέων τῶν ἐθνῶν ἐν ρομφαίᾳ καὶ ἐν αἰχμαλωσίᾳ καὶ ἐν διαρπαγῇ καὶ ἐν αἰσχύνῃ προσώπου ἡμῶν ὡς ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη.	From the days of our fathers we have been in a great trespass until this day: and because of our iniquities we, and our kings, and our children, have been delivered into the hand of the kings of the Gentiles by the sword, and by captivity, and by spoil, and with shame of our face, as at this day.

καὶ νῦν ἐπιεικεύσατο ἡμῖν ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν τοῦ καταλιπεῖν ἡμᾶς εἰς σωτηρίαν καὶ δοῦναι ἡμῖν στήριγμα ἐν τόπῳ ἁγιάσματος αὐτοῦ τοῦ φωτίσαι ὀφθαλμοὺς ἡμῶν καὶ δοῦναι ζωοποίησιν μικρὰν ἐν τῇ δουλείᾳ ἡμῶν.	And now our God has dealt mercifully with us, so as to leave us to escape, and to give us an establishment in the place of his sanctuary, to enlighten our eyes, and to give a little quickening in our servitude.
9	9
ὅτι δοῦλοί ἐσμεν, καὶ ἐν τῇ δουλείᾳ ἡμῶν οὐκ ἐγκατέλιπεν ἡμᾶς Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν καὶ ἔκλινεν ἐφ᾿ ἡμᾶς ἔλεος ἐνώπιον βασιλέων Περσῶν δοῦναι ἡμῖν ζωοποίησιν τοῦ ὑψῶσαι αὐτοὺς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν καὶ ἀναστῆσαι τὰ ἔρημα αὐτῆς καὶ τοῦ δοῦναι ἡμῖν φραγμὸν ἐν ᾿Ιούδᾳ καὶ ῾Ιερουσαλήμ.	For we are slaves, yet in our servitude the Lord our God has not deserted us; and he has extended favour to us in the sight of the kings of the Persians, to give us a quickening, that they should raise up the house of our God, and restore the desolate places of it, and to give us a fence in Juda and Jerusalem.

τί εἴπωμεν, ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν, μετὰ τοῦτο; ὅτι ἐγκατελίπομεν ἐντολάς σου,	What shall we say, our God, after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments,
11	11
ἃς ἔδωκας ἡμῖν ἐν χειρὶ δούλων σου τῶν προφητῶν λέγων· ἡ γῆ, εἰς ἣν εἰσπορεύεσθε κληρονομῆσαι αὐτήν, γῆ μετακινουμένη ἐστὶν ἐν μετακινήσει λαῶν τῶν ἐθνῶν ἐν μακρύμμασιν αὐτῶν, ὧν ἔπλησαν αὐτὴν ἀπὸ στόματος ἐπὶ στόμα ἐν ἀκαθαρσίαις αὐτῶν·	which thou hast given us by the hand of thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, into which ye go to inherit it, is a land subject to disturbance by the removal of the people of the nations for their abominations, wherewith they have filled it from one end to the other by their uncleannesses.

καὶ νῦν τὰς θυγατέρας ὑμῶν μὴ δότε τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτῶν καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν θυγατέρων αὐτῶν μὴ λάβητε τοῖς υἱοῖς ὑμῶν καὶ οὐκ ἐκζητήσετε εἰρήνην αὐτῶν καὶ ἀγαθὸν αὐτῶν ἕως αἰῶνος, ὅπως ἐνισχύσητε καὶ φάγητε τὰ ἀγαθὰ τῆς γῆς καὶ κληροδοτήσητε τοῖς υἱοῖς ὑμῶν ἕως αἰῶνος.	And now give not your daughters to their sons, and take not of their daughters for your sons, neither shall ye seek their peace or their good for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and transmit it as an inheritance to your children for ever.

καὶ μετὰ πᾶν τὸ ἐρχόμενον ἐφ᾿ ἡμᾶς ἐν ποιήμασιν ἡμῶν τοῖς πονηροῖς καὶ ἐν πλημμελείᾳ ἡμῶν τῇ μεγάλῃ· ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ὡς ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν, ὅτι ἐκούφισας ἡμῶν τὰς ἀνομίας, καὶ ἔδωκας ἡμῖν σωτηρίαν·	And after all that is come upon us because of our evil deeds, and our great trespass, it is clear that there is none such as our God, for thou hast lightly visited our iniquities, and given us deliverance;
14	14
ὅτι ἐπεστρέψαμεν διασκεδάσαι ἐντολάς σου καὶ ἐπιγαμβρεῦσαι τοῖς λαοῖς τῶν γαιῶν· μὴ παροξυνθῇς ἐν ἡμῖν ἕως συντελείας, τοῦ μὴ εἶναι ἐγκατάλειμμα καὶ διασῳζόμενον.	whereas we have repeatedly broken thy commandments, and intermarried with the people of the lands: be not very angry with us to our utter destruction, so that there should be no remnant or escaping one.
15	15
Κύριε ὁ Θεὸς ᾿Ισραήλ, δίκαιος σύ, ὅτι κατελείφθημεν διασῳζόμενοι ὡς ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη. ἰδοὺ ἡμεῖς ἐναντίον σου ἐν πλημελείαις ἡμῶν, ὅτι οὐκ ἔστι στῆναι ἐνώπιόν σου ἐπὶ τούτῳ.	O Lord God of Israel, thou art righteous; for we remain yet escaped, as at this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee on this account.
Κεφάλαιο 10	Chapter 10

1	1
ΚΑΙ ὡς προσηύξατο ῎Εσδρας καὶ ὡς ἐξηγόρευσε κλαίων καὶ προσευχόμενος ἐνώπιον οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ, συνήχθησαν πρὸς αὐτὸν ἀπὸ ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐκκλησία πολλὴ σφόδρα, ἄνδρες καὶ γυναῖκες καὶ νεανίσκοι, ὅτι ἔκλαυσαν ὁ λαὸς καὶ ὕψωσε κλαίων.	So when Esdras had prayed, and when he had confessed, weeping and praying before the house of God, a very great assembly of Israel came together to him, men and women and youths; for the people wept, and wept aloud.
2	2
καὶ ἀπεκρίθη Σεχενίας υἱὸς ᾿Ιεὴλ ἀπὸ υἱῶν ᾿Ηλάμ, καὶ εἶπε τῷ ῎Εσδρᾳ· ἡμεῖς ἠσυνθετήσαμεν τῷ Θεῷ ἡμῶν καὶ ἐκαθίσαμεν γυναῖκας ἀλλοτρίας ἀπὸ τῶν λαῶν τῆς γῆς· καὶ νῦν ἐστιν ὑπομονὴ τῷ ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐπὶ τούτῳ.	And Sechenias the son of Jeel, of the sons of Elam, answered and said to Esdras, We have broken covenant with our God, and have taken strange wives of the nations of the land: yet now there is patience of hope to Israel concerning this thing.
3	3
καὶ νῦν διαθώμεθα διαθήκην τῷ Θεῷ ἡμῶν ἐκβαλεῖν πάσας τὰς γυναῖκας καὶ τὰ γενόμενα ἐξ αὐτῶν, ὡς ἂν βούλη· ἀνάστηθι, καὶ φοβέρισον αὐτοὺς ἐν ἐντολαῖς Θεοῦ ἡμῶν, καὶ ὡς ὁ νόμος γενηθήτω.	Now then let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and their offspring, as thou shalt advise:
4	4
ἀνάστα, ὅτι ἐπὶ σὲ τὸ ρῆμα, καὶ ἡμεῖς μετὰ σοῦ· κραταιοῦ καὶ ποίησον.	arise, and alarm them with the commands of our God; and let it be done according to the law. Rise up, for the matter is upon thee; and we are with thee: be strong and do.
5	5
καὶ ἀνέστη ῎Εσδρας καὶ ὥρκισε τοὺς ἄρχοντας, τοὺς ἱερεῖς καὶ Λευίτας καὶ πάντα ᾿Ισραὴλ τοῦ ποιῆσαι κατὰ τὸ ρῆμα τοῦτο· καὶ ὤμοσαν.	Then Esdras arose, and caused the rulers, the priests, and Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word: and they swore.
6	6
καὶ ἀνέστη ῎Εσδρας ἀπὸ προσώπου οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ καὶ ἐπορεύθη εἰς γαζοφυλάκιον ᾿Ιωανὰν υἱοῦ ᾿Ελισοὺβ καὶ ἐπορεύθη ἐκεῖ· ἄρτον οὐκ ἔφαγεν καὶ ὕδωρ οὐκ ἔπιεν, ὅτι ἐπένθει ἐπὶ τῇ ἀσυνθεσίᾳ τῆς ἀποικίας.	And Esdras rose up from before the house of God, and went to the treasury of Joanan the son of Elisub; he even went thither: he ate no bread, and drank no water; for he mourned over the unfaithfulness of them of the captivity.
7	7
καὶ παρήνεγκαν φωνὴν ἐν ᾿Ιούδᾳ καὶ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ πᾶσι τοῖς υἱοῖς τῆς ἀποικίας τοῦ συναθροισθῆναι εἰς ῾Ιερουαλήμ,	And they made proclamation throughout Juda and Jerusalem to all the children of the captivity, that they should assemble at Jerusalem, saying,
8	8
πᾶς, ὃς ἂν μὴ ἔλθῃ εἰς τρεῖς ἡμέρας, ὡς ἡ βουλὴ τῶν ἀρχόντων καὶ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων, ἀναθεματισθήσεται πᾶσα ἡ ὕπαρξις αὐτοῦ, καὶ αὐτὸς διασταλήσεται ἀπὸ ἐκκλησίας τῆς ἀποικίας.	Every one who shall not arrive within three days, as is the counsel of the rulers and the elders, all his substance shall be forfeited, and he shall be separated from the congregation of the captivity.
9	9
Καὶ συνήχθησαν πάντες ἄνδρες ᾿Ιούδα καὶ Βενιαμὶν εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ εἰς τὰς τρεῖς ἡμέρας, οὗτος ὁ μὴν ὁ ἔνατος· ἐν εἰκάδι τοῦ μηνὸς ἐκάθισε πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ἐν πλατείᾳ οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ ἀπὸ θορύβου αὐτῶν περὶ τοῦ ρήματος καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ χειμῶνος.	So all the men of Juda and Benjamin assembled at Jerusalem within the three days. This was the ninth month: on the twentieth day of the month all the people sat down in the street of the house of the Lord, because of their alarm concerning the word, and because of the storm.

καὶ ἀνέστη ῎Εσδρας ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ εἶπε πρὸς αὐτούς· ὑμεῖς ἠσυνθετήκατε καὶ ἐκαθίσατε γυναῖκας ἀλλοτρίας τοῦ προσθεῖναι ἐπὶ πλημμέλειαν ᾿Ισραήλ·	And Esdras the priest arose, and said to them, Ye have broken covenant, and have taken strange wives, to add to the trespass of Israel.
11	11
καὶ νῦν δότε αἴνεσιν Κυρίῳ Θεῷ τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν καὶ ποιήσατε τὸ ἀρεστὸν ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ καὶ διαστάλητε ἀπὸ λαῶν τῆς γῆς καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν γυναικῶν τῶν ἀλλοτρίων.	Now therefore give praise to the Lord God of our fathers, and do that which is pleasing in his sight: and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land, and from the strange wives.
12	12
καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν πᾶσα ἡ ἐκκλησία καὶ εἶπαν· μέγα τοῦτο τὸ ρῆμά σου ἐφ᾿ ἡμᾶς ποιῆσαι·	Then all the congregation answered and said, This thy word is powerful upon us to do it.
13	13
ἀλλὰ ὁ λαὸς πολύς, καὶ ὁ καιρὸς χειμερινός, καὶ οὐκ ἔστι δύναμις στῆναι ἔξω· καὶ τὸ ἔργον οὐκ εἰς ἡμέραν μίαν καὶ οὐκ εἰς δύο, ὅτι ἐπληθύναμεν τοῦ ἀδικῆσαι ἐν τῷ ρήματι τούτῳ.	But the people is numerous, and the season is stormy, and there is no power to stand without, and the work is more than enough for one day or for two; for we have greatly sinned in this matter.
14	14
στήτωσαν δὴ ἄρχοντες ἡμῶν πάσῃ τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ καὶ πάντες οἱ ἐν πόλεσιν ἡμῶν, ὃς ἐκάθισε γυναῖκας ἀλλοτρίας, ἐλθέτωσαν εἰς καιροὺς ἀπὸ συνταγῶν καὶ μετ᾿ αὐτῶν πρεσβύτεροι πόλεως καὶ πόλεως καὶ κριταὶ τοῦ ἀποστρέψαι ὀργὴν θυμοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν ἐξ ἡμῶν περὶ τοῦ ρήματος τούτου.	Let now our rulers stand, and for all those in our cities who have taken strange wives, let them come at appointed times, and with them elders from every several city, and judges, to turn away the fierce wrath of our God from us concerning this matter.
15	15
πλὴν ᾿Ιωνάθαν υἱὸς ᾿Ασαὴλ καὶ ᾿Ιαζίας υἱὸς Θεκωὲ μετ᾿ ἐμοῦ περὶ τούτου, καὶ Μεσολλὰμ καὶ Σαββαθαΐ ὁ Λευίτης βοηθῶν αὐτοῖς.	Only Jonathan the son of Asael, and Jazias the son of Thecoe were with me concerning this; and Mesollam, and Sabbathai the Levite helped them.
16	16
καὶ ἐποίησαν οὕτως υἱοὶ τῆς ἀποικίας. καὶ διεστάλησαν ῎Εσδρας ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ ἄνδρες ἄρχοντες πατριῶν τῷ οἴκῳ καὶ πάντες ἐν ὀνόμασιν, ὅτι ἐπέστρεψαν ἐν ἡμέρᾳ μιᾷ τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ δεκάτου ἐκζητῆσαι τὸ ρῆμα.	And the children of the captivity did thus: and Esdras the priest, and heads of families according to their house were separated, and all by their names, for they returned in the first day of the tenth month to search out the matter.
17	17
καὶ ἐτέλεσαν ἐν πᾶσιν ἀνδράσιν, οἳ ἐκάθισαν γυναῖκας ἀλλοτρίας, ἕως ἡμέρας μιᾶς τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ πρώτου.	And they made an end with all the men who had taken strange wives by the first day of the first month.
18	18
Καὶ εὑρέθησαν ἀπὸ υἱῶν τῶν ἱερέων, οἳ ἐκάθισαν γυναῖκας ἀλλοτρίας· ἀπὸ υἱῶν ᾿Ιησοῦ υἱοῦ ᾿Ιωσεδὲκ καὶ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ Μαασία καὶ ᾿Ελιέζερ καὶ ᾿Ιαρὶβ καὶ Γαδαλία,	And there were found some of the sons of the priests who had taken strange wives: of the sons of Jesus the son of Josedec, and his brethren; Maasia, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gadalia.
19	19
καὶ ἔδωκαν χεῖρα αὐτῶν τοῦ ἐξενέγκαι γυναῖκας ἑαυτῶν καὶ πλημμελείας κριὸν ἐκ προβάτων περὶ πλημμελήσεως αὐτῶν·	And they pledged themselves to put away their wives, and offered a ram of the flock for a trespass-offering because of their trespass.
20	20
καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν ᾿Εμμήρ, ᾿Ανανὶ καὶ Ζαβδία·	And of the sons of Emmer; Anani, and Zabdia.
21	21
καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν ᾿Ηράμ, Μασαὴλ καὶ ᾿Ελία καὶ Σαμαΐα καὶ ᾿Ιεὴλ καὶ ᾿Οζία·	And of the sons of Eram; Masael, and Elia, and Samaia, and Jeel, and Ozia.
22	22
καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν Φασούρ, ᾿Ελιωναΐ, Μαασία καὶ ᾿Ισμαὴλ καὶ Ναθαναὴλ καὶ ᾿Ιωζαβὰδ καὶ ᾿Ηλασά·	And of the sons of Phasur; Elionai, Maasia, and Ismael, and Nathanael, and Jozabad, and Elasa.
23	23
καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν Λευιτῶν, ᾿Ιωζαβὰδ καὶ Σαμοὺ καὶ Κωλία (αὐτὸς Κωλίτας) καὶ Φεθεΐα καὶ ᾿Ιόδομ καὶ ᾿Ελιέζερ·	And of the Levites; Jozabad, and Samu, and Colia (he is Colitas,) and Phetheia, and Judas, and Eliezer.
24	24
καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ἆδόντων, ᾿Ελισάβ· καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν πυλωρῶν, Σολμὴν καὶ Τελμὴν καὶ ᾿Ωδούθ·	And of the singers; Elisab: and of the porters; Solmen, and Telmen, and Oduth.
25	25
καὶ ἀπὸ ᾿Ισραήλ· ἀπὸ υἱῶν Φόρος, Ραμία καὶ ᾿Αζία καὶ Μελχία καὶ Μεαμὶν καὶ ᾿Ελεάζαρ καὶ ᾿Ασαβία καὶ Βαναία·	Also of Israel: of the sons of Phoros; Ramia, and Azia, and Melchia, and Meamin, and Eleazar, and Asabia, and Banaia.
26	26
καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν ᾿Ηλάμ, Ματθανία καὶ Ζαχαρία καὶ ᾿Ιαϊὴλ καὶ ᾿Αβδία και ᾿Ιαριμὼθ καὶ ᾿Ηλία·	And of the sons of Helam; Matthania, and Zacharia, and Jaïel, and Abdia, and Jarimoth, and Elia.
27	27
καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν Ζαθονά, ᾿Ελιωναΐ, ᾿Ελισούβ, Ματθαναΐ καὶ ᾿Αρμὼθ καὶ Ζαβὰδ καὶ ᾿Οζιζά·	And of the sons of Zathua; Elionai, Elisub, Matthanai, and Armoth, and Zabad, and Oziza.
28	28
καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν Βαβεΐ, ᾿Ιωανάν, ᾿Ανανία, καὶ Ζαβοὺ καὶ Θαλί·	And of the sons of Babei; Joanan, Anania, and Zabu, and Thali.
29	29
καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν Βανουΐ, Μοσολλάμ, Μαλούχ, ᾿Αδαΐας, ᾿Ιασοὺβ καὶ Σαλουΐα καὶ Ρημώθ·	And of the sons of Banui; Mosollam, Maluch, Adaias, Jasub, and Saluia, and Remoth.
30	30
καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν Φαὰθ Μωάβ, ᾿Εδνὲ καὶ Χαλὴλ καὶ Βαναία Μαασία Ματθανία Βεσελεὴλ καὶ Βανουΐ καὶ Μανασσῆ·	And of the sons of Phaath Moab; Edne, and Chalel, and Banaia, Maasia, Matthania, Beseleel, and Banui, and Manasse.
31	31

οἱ υἱοὶ Βανουὶ καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Σεμεΐ	and so did the children of Banui, and the children of Semei,

καὶ Σελεμία καὶ Νάθαν καὶ ᾿Αδαΐα,	and Selemia, and Nathan, and Adaia,

Μαχαδναβού, Σεσεΐ, Σαριού,	Machadnabu, Sesei, Sariu,

᾿Εζριὴλ καὶ Σελεμία καὶ Σαμαρία	Ezriel, and Selemia, and Samaria,

καὶ Σελλούμ, ᾿Αμαρεία, ᾿Ιωσήφ·	and Sellum, Amaria, Joseph.

ἀπὸ υἱῶν Ναβού, ᾿Ιαήλ, Ματθανίας, Ζαβάδ, Ζεββενάς, ᾿Ιαδαὶ καὶ ᾿Ιωὴλ καὶ Βαναία.	Of the sons of Nabu; Jael, Matthanias, Zabad, Zebennas, Jadai, and Joel, and Banaia.

πάντες οὗτοι ἐλάβοσαν γυναῖκας ἀλλοτρίας καὶ ἐγέννησαν ἐξ αὐτῶν υἱούς.	All these had taken strange wives, and had begotten sons of them.
