Holy Bible
This English edition of the Holy Bible combines two historic translations in the classical English tradition. The Old Testament is based on Sir Lancelot Charles Lee Brenton’s English translation of the Greek Septuagint, first published in 1844 and issued with the Deuterocanonical books in 1851. Brenton’s translation preserves the traditional order, names, and distinctive readings of the Septuagint used throughout the ancient Church.
The New Testament is taken from the American Standard Version Byzantine Text. It is based on the American Standard Version of 1901, itself descended through the English Revised Version of 1885 from the King James Version tradition. The text has been revised to conform more closely to the Byzantine Greek manuscript tradition. Where changes to the ASV were required, traditional renderings from the King James Version were used whenever suitable, with occasional reference to Young’s Literal Translation and Darby’s New Testament. Both texts are in the public domain.
