In the second year of the reign of Artaxerxes the great king, on the first day of Nisan, Mardochæus the son of Jairus, the son of Semeias, the son of Cisæus, of the tribe of Benjamin,	И҆ бы́сть по словесѣ́хъ си́хъ во дне́хъ а҆ртаѯе́рѯа: се́й а҆ртаѯрѯъ ѿ і҆нді́и ѡ҆блада́ше сто̀ два́десѧть седмїю̀ страна́ми (да́же до є҆ѳїо́пїи):

a Jew dwelling in the city Susa, a great man, serving in the king's palace, saw a vision.

Now he was of the captivity which Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon had carried captive from Jerusalem, with Jechonias the king of Judea.

And this was his dream: Behold, voices and a noise, thunders and earthquake, tumult upon the earth.
1e
And, behold, two great serpents came forth, both ready for conflict, and there came from them a great voice,

and by their voice every nation was prepared for battle, even to fight against the nation of the just.

And, behold, a day of darkness and blackness, tribulation and anguish, affliction and great tumult upon the earth.

And all the righteous nation was troubled, fearing their own afflictions; and they prepared to die, and cried to God:

and from their cry there came as it were a great river from a little fountain, even much water.

And light and the sun arose, and the lowly were exalted, and devoured the honourable.

And Mardochæus who had seen this vision and what God designed to do, having awoke, kept it in his heart, and desired by all means to interpret it, even till night.

And Mardochæus rested quiet in the palace with Gabatha and Tharrha the king's two chamberlains, eunuchs who guarded the palace.

And he heard their reasonings and searched out their plans, and learnt that they were preparing to lay hands on king Artaxerxes: and he informed the king concerning them.

And the king examined the two chamberlains, and they confessed, and were executed.

And the king wrote these things for a memorial; also Mardochæus wrote concerning these matters.

And the king commanded Mardochæus to attend in the palace, and gave him gifts for this service.

And Aman the son of Amadathes the Bugæan was honourable in the sight of the king, and he endeavoured to hurt Mardochæus and his people, because of the two chamberlains of the king.

And it came to pass after these things in the days of Artaxerxes,—(this Artaxerxes ruled over a hundred and twenty-seven provinces from India)—

in those days, when king Artaxerxes was on the throne in the city of Susa,	во дни̑ же ты̑ѧ, є҆гда̀ сѣ́де на престо́лѣ ца́рь а҆ртаѯе́рѯъ въ сꙋ́сѣхъ гра́дѣ,

in the third year of his reign, he made a feast to his friends, and the other nations, and to the nobles of the Persians and Medes, and the chief of the satraps.	въ тре́тїе лѣ́то ца́рства своегѡ̀, сотворѝ пи́ръ дрꙋгѡ́мъ и҆ про́чымъ ꙗ҆зы́кѡмъ, и҆ пє́рсскимъ и҆ ми̑дскимъ сла̑внымъ, и҆ нача̑лнымъ сатра́иѡмъ,

And after this, after he had shewn to them the wealth of his kingdom, and the abundant glory of his wealth during a hundred and eighty days,	и҆ по си́хъ, є҆гда̀ показа̀ и҆̀мъ бога́тство ца́рства своегѡ̀ и҆ сла́вꙋ весе́лїѧ своегѡ̀, во сто̀ ѻ҆́смьдесѧтъ дні́й.

when, I say, the days of the marriage feast were completed, the king made a banquet to the nations who were present in the city six days, in the court of the king's house,	И҆ є҆гда̀ и҆спо́лнишасѧ дні́е пи́ра, сотворѝ ца́рь пи́ршество ꙗ҆зы́кѡмъ ѡ҆брѣ́тшымсѧ во гра́дѣ (сꙋ́сѣхъ) на дні́й ше́сть во дворѣ̀ до́мꙋ царе́ва,

which was adorned with hangings of fine linen and flax on cords of fine linen and purple, fastened to golden and silver studs, on pillars of Parian marble and stone: there were golden and silver couches on a pavement of emerald stone, and of pearl, and of Parian stone, and open-worked coverings variously flowered, having roses worked round about;	оу҆кра́шеннѣмъ вѷссо́нными и҆ зеле́иыми завѣ́сами, просте́ртыми на оу҆́жахъ вѷссо́нныхъ и҆ червлени́чныхъ, на ко́лцахъ златы́хъ и҆ сре́брѧныхъ, на столпѣ́хъ мра́морныхъ и҆ ка́менныхъ:

gold and silver cups, and a small cup of carbuncle set out of the value of thirty thousand talents, abundant and sweet wine, which the king himself drank.	лѡ́жа зла̑та и҆ срє́брѧна, на помо́стѣ ка́мене смара́гдова, и҆ пїнні́нска и҆ парі́нска мра́мора, и҆ плащани̑цы пестрота́ми разли́чными разцвѣ́чєны, ѡ҆́крестъ шипцы̀ разсѣ́ѧни:

And this banquet was not according to the appointed law; but so the king would have it: and he charged the stewards to perform his will and that of the company.	сосꙋ́ди зла́ти и҆ сре́брѧни, и҆ ча́ша а҆нѳра́ѯа (ка́мене) предложе́ннаѧ, цѣно́ю тала̑нтъ три́десѧть ты́сѧщъ: вїно̀ мно́го и҆ сла́дко, є҆́же са́мъ ца́рь пїѧ́ше: питїе́ же сїѐ не по оу҆ста́вленномꙋ зако́нꙋ бы́сть, та́кѡ бо восхотѣ̀ ца́рь и҆ заповѣ́да і҆коно́мѡмъ сотвори́ти во́лю свою̀ и҆ мꙋже́й.

Also Astin the queen made a banquet for the women in the palace where king Artaxerxes dwelt.	И҆ а҆сті́нь цари́ца сотворѝ пи́ръ жена́мъ въ домꙋ̀ царе́вѣ, и҆дѣ́же ца́рь а҆ртаѯе́рѯъ.

Now on the seventh day the king, being merry, told Aman, and Bazan, and Tharrha, and Barazi, and Zatholtha, and Abataza, and Tharaba, the seven chamberlains, servants of king Artaxerxes,	Въ де́нь же седмы́й развесели́всѧ ца́рь, речѐ а҆ма́нꙋ и҆ ваза́нꙋ, и҆ ѳа́ррѣ и҆ вара́зꙋ, и҆ заѳолѳа́нꙋ и҆ а҆вата́зꙋ и҆ ѳара́вꙋ, седми́мъ є҆ѵнꙋ́хѡмъ, и҆̀же слꙋжа́хꙋ пред̾ царе́мъ а҆ртаѯе́рѯомъ,

to bring in the queen to him, to enthrone her, and crown her with the diadem, and to shew her to the princes, and her beauty to the nations: for she was beautiful.	привестѝ (а҆сті́нь) цари́цꙋ пред̾ него́, є҆́же воцари́ти ю҆̀ и҆ возложи́ти на ню̀ вѣне́цъ ца́рскїй и҆ показа́ти ю҆̀ всѣ̑мъ нача́лствꙋющымъ и҆ ꙗ҆зы́кѡмъ красотꙋ̀ є҆ѧ̀, занѐ прекра́сна бѣ̀.

But queen Astin hearkened not to him to come with the chamberlains: so the king was grieved and angered.	И҆ не послꙋ́ша є҆гѡ̀ а҆сті́нь цари́ца прїитѝ со є҆ѵнꙋ̑хи.

And he said to his friends, Thus has Astin spoken: pronounce therefore upon this case law and judgment.	И҆ ѡ҆печа́лисѧ ца́рь, и҆ разгнѣ́васѧ, и҆ речѐ бли̑жнимъ свои̑мъ: си́це речѐ а҆сті́нь: сотвори́те оу҆̀бо ѡ҆ се́мъ зако́нъ и҆ сꙋ́дъ.

So Arkesæus, and Sarsathæus, and Malisear, the princes of the Persians and Medes, who were near the king, who sat chief in rank by the king, drew near to him,	И҆ пристꙋпи́ша къ немꙋ̀ а҆ркесе́й и҆ сарсоѳе́й и҆ малисеа́ръ, нача̑лницы пе́рсстїи и҆ ми́дстїи, и҆̀же бли́з̾ царѧ̀, пе́рвїи сѣдѧ́щїи при царѝ,

and reported to him according to the laws how it was proper to do to queen Astin, because she had not done the things commanded of the king by the chamberlains.	и҆ возвѣсти́ша є҆мꙋ̀ по зако́нѡмъ, ка́кѡ подоба́етъ сотвори́ти цари́цѣ а҆сті́ни, ꙗ҆́кѡ не сотворѝ повелѣ́нныхъ ѿ царѧ̀ чрез̾ є҆ѵнꙋ́хи.

And Muchæus said to the king and to the princes, Queen Astin has not wronged the king only, but also all the king's rulers and princes:	И҆ речѐ мꙋхе́й ко царю̀ и҆ къ болѧ́рѡмъ: не царѧ̀ є҆ди́наго ѡ҆би́дѣ а҆сті́нь цари́ца, но и҆ всѧ̑ кнѧ̑зи и҆ нача́лники царє́вы,

for he has told them the words of the queen, and how she disobeyed the king. As then, said he, she refused to obey king Artaxerxes,	и҆́бо повѣ́да и҆мъ словеса̀ цари́цы, и҆ ка́кѡ противоречѐ царю̀:

so this day shall the other ladies of the chiefs of the Persians and Medes, having heard what she said to the king, dare in the same way to dishonour their husbands.	ꙗ҆́коже оу҆бѡ проти́внѡ речѐ царю̀ а҆ртаѯе́рѯꙋ, си́це и҆ дне́сь госпѡжѝ жєны̀ про́чыѧ кнѧзе́й пе́рсскихъ и҆ ми́дскихъ, оу҆слы́шавшѧ царю̀ речє́ннаѧ ѿ неѧ̀, дерзнꙋ́тъ та́кожде безче́ствовати мꙋже́и свои́хъ:

If then it seem good to the king, let him make a royal decree, and let it be written according to the laws of the Medes and Persians, and let him not alter it: and let not the queen come in to him any more; and let the king give her royalty to a woman better than she.	а҆́ще оу҆̀бо оу҆го́дно царю̀, да повели́тъ ца́рскимъ повелѣ́нїемъ, и҆ да напи́шетсѧ по зако́нѡмъ ми̑дскимъ и҆ пє́рсскимъ, и҆ и҆́накѡ да не бꙋ́детъ, нижѐ да вни́детъ ктомꙋ̀ цари́ца къ немꙋ̀, и҆ ца́рство є҆ѧ̀ да преда́стъ ца́рь женѣ̀ лꙋ́чшей є҆ѧ̀:

And let the law of the king which he shall have made, be widely proclaimed, in his kingdom: and so shall all the women give honour to their husbands, from the poor even to the rich.	и҆ да бꙋ́детъ оу҆слышанъ зако́нъ, и҆́же ѿ царѧ̀, є҆го́же сотвори́тъ во ца́рствїи свое́мъ, и҆ си́це всѧ̑ жєны̀ возложа́тъ че́сть на мꙋ́жы своѧ̑ ѿ бога́та да́же до оу҆бо́га.

And the saying pleased the king and the princes; and the king did as Muchæus had said,	И҆ оу҆го́дно бы́сть сло́во пред̾ царе́мъ и҆ нача̑лники, и҆ сотворѝ ца́рь, ꙗ҆́коже речѐ є҆мꙋ̀ мꙋхе́й,

and sent into all his kingdom through the several provinces, according to their language, in order that men might be feared in their own houses.	и҆ посла̀ ца́рь кни̑ги во всѐ ца́рство по страна́мъ по ѧ҆зы́кꙋ и҆́хъ, да бꙋ́детъ стра́хъ и҆̀мъ въ жили́щихъ и҆́хъ.
Chapter 2	Глава́ в҃

And after this the king's anger was pacified, and he no more mentioned Astin, bearing in mind what she had said, and how he had condemned her.	И҆ по словесѣ́хъ си́хъ оу҆толи́сѧ ца́рь ѿ гнѣ́ва, и҆ не воспомѧнꙋ̀ ктомꙋ̀ а҆сті́ни, воспомина́ѧ, є҆ли̑ка глаго́ла и҆ ка́кѡ ѡ҆сꙋдѝ є҆ѧ̀.

Then the servants of the king said, Let there be sought for the king chaste and beautiful young virgins.	И҆ рѣ́ша слꙋги̑ царє́вы: да и҆зы́щꙋтсѧ царю̀ дѣви̑цы нерастлѣ̑нны, красны̑ зра́комъ, и҆ да поста́витъ ца́рь взыска́тєли во всѣ́хъ страна́хъ ца́рствїѧ своегѡ̀,

And let the king appoint local governors in all the provinces of his kingdom, and let them select fair and chaste young damsels and bring them to the city Susa, into the women's apartment, and let them be consigned to the king's chamberlain, the keeper of the women; and let things for purification and other attendance be given to them.	и҆ да и҆зберꙋ́тъ ѻ҆трокови́цъ дѣ́вственныхъ доброзра́чныхъ въ сꙋ́сы гра́дъ, въ черто́гъ же́нскїй, и҆ да ѿдадꙋ́тсѧ є҆ѵнꙋ́хови царе́вꙋ стра́жꙋ же́нъ, и҆ да дадꙋ́тсѧ ма̑сти и҆ про́чыѧ потрє́бы:

And let the woman who shall please the king be queen instead of Astin. And the thing pleased the king; and he did so.	и҆ жена̀, ю҆́же возлю́битъ ца́рь, да бꙋ́детъ цари́цею вмѣ́стѡ а҆сті́ни. И҆ оу҆го́дно бѣ̀ царю̀ сло́во, и҆ сотворѝ та́кѡ.

Now there was a Jew in the city Susa, and his name was Mardochæus, the son of Jairus, the son of Semeias, the son of Cisæus, of the tribe of Benjamin;	И҆ мꙋ́жъ бѣ̀ і҆ꙋде́анинъ во гра́дѣ сꙋ́сѣхъ, и҆ и҆́мѧ є҆мꙋ̀ мардохе́й сы́нъ і҆аі́ровъ, сы́на семе́ина, сы́на кїсе́ова, ѿ пле́мене венїамі́нѧ,

who had been brought a prisoner from Jerusalem, which Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon had carried into captivity.	и҆́же бѧ́ше плѣне́нъ ѿ і҆еⷭ҇рли́ма навꙋходоно́соромъ царе́мъ вавѷлѡ́нскимъ:

And he had a foster-child, daughter of Aminadab his father's brother, and her name was Esther; and when her parents were dead, he brought her up for a wife for himself: and the damsel was beautiful.	и҆ бѧ́ше є҆мꙋ̀ ѻ҆трокови́ца воспита́на, дще́рь а҆мїнада́ва бра́та ѻ҆тцꙋ̀ є҆гѡ̀, и҆ и҆́мѧ є҆́й є҆сѳи́рь. По преставле́нїи же роди́телей є҆ѧ̀, прїѧ̀ ю҆̀ мардохе́й во дще́ре мѣ́сто: и҆ бѧ́ше дѣви́ца красна̀ и҆ доброзра́чна.

And because the king's ordinance was published, many damsels were gathered to the city Susa under the hand of Gai; and Esther was brought to Gai the keeper of the women.	И҆ є҆гда̀ оу҆слы́шано бы́сть повелѣ́нїе царе́во, сѡ́браны бы́ша дѣви̑цы мнѡ́ги во гра́дъ сꙋ́сы, под̾ рꙋ́кꙋ га́їевꙋ, и҆ приведена̀ бы́сть є҆сѳи́рь ко га́їю храни́телю же́нъ:

And the damsel pleased him, and she found favour in his sight; and he hasted to give her the things for purification, and her portion, and the seven maidens appointed her out of the palace: and he treated her and her maidens well in the women's apartment.	и҆ оу҆го́дна бы́сть є҆мꙋ̀ ѻ҆трокови́ца и҆ ѡ҆крѣ́те благода́ть пред̾ ни́мъ: и҆ потща́сѧ да́ти є҆́й ма̑сти и҆ оу҆ча́стїе, и҆ се́дмь дѣви́цъ приста́ви къ не́й и҆з̾ до́мꙋ царе́ва, и҆ снабдѣва́ше ю҆̀ и҆ рабы́нь є҆ѧ̀ до́брѣ въ домꙋ̀ же́нстѣмъ.

But Esther discovered not her family nor her kindred: for Mardochæus had charged her not to tell.	И҆ не повѣ́да є҆сѳи́рь ро́да своегѡ̀, нижѐ ѻ҆те́чества, мардохе́й бо заповѣ́да є҆́й не возвѣща́ти.

But Mardochæus used to walk every day by the women's court, to see what would become of Esther.	На всѧ́къ же де́нь хожда́ше мардохе́й по дворꙋ̀ же́нскомꙋ, назира́ѧ, что̀ є҆сѳи́ри слꙋчи́тсѧ.

Now this was the time for a virgin to go in to the king, when she should have fulfilled twelve months; for so are the days of purification fulfilled, six months while they are anointing themselves with oil of myrrh, and six months with spices and women's purifications.	Сїе́ же бѣ̀ вре́мѧ дѣви́цъ входи́ти ко царю̀, є҆гда̀ и҆спо́лнѧтсѧ двана́десѧть мцⷭ҇ей: та́кѡ бо наполнѧ́хꙋсѧ дні́е оу҆краше́нїѧ, ше́сть мцⷭ҇ъ во а҆рѡма́тѣхъ и҆ въ ма́стехъ же́нскихъ, и҆ ше́сть мцⷭ҇ъ намазꙋ́ющѧсѧ смѵ́рновымъ є҆ле́емъ,

And then the damsel goes in to the king; and the officer to whomsoever he shall give the command, will bring her to come in with him from the women's apartment to the king's chamber.	и҆ тогда̀ вхожда́хꙋ ко царе́ви: и҆ є҆мꙋ́же а҆́ще рече́тъ привестѝ ю҆̀, вхо́дитъ съ ни́мъ кꙋ́пнѡ и҆з̾ до́мꙋ же́нскагѡ да́же до до́мꙋ царе́ва:

She enters in the evening, and in the morning she departs to the second women's apartment, where Gai the king's chamberlain is keeper of the women: and she goes not in to the king again, unless she should be called by name.	на ве́черъ вхожда́ше и҆ заꙋ́тра возвраща́шесѧ въ до́мъ же́нскїй вторы́й, и҆дѣ́же га́й є҆ѵнꙋ́хъ царе́въ храни́тель же́нъ, и҆ не вхожда́ше па́ки ко царю̀, а҆́ще не бꙋ́детъ позвана̀ и҆́менемъ.

And when the time was fulfilled for Esther the daughter of Aminadab the brother of Mardochæus' father to go in to the king, she neglected nothing which the chamberlain, the women's keeper, commanded; for Esther found grace in the sight of all that looked upon her.	Є҆гда́ же и҆спо́лнисѧ вре́мѧ є҆сѳи́ри дще́ри а҆мїнада́ва, бра́та ѻ҆тца̀ мардохе́ова, (и҆́же поѧ́лъ ю҆̀ себѣ̀ въ дще́ре мѣ́сто,) вни́ти ко царе́ви, ничто́же престꙋпѝ ѿ си́хъ, ꙗ҆̀же заповѣ́да є҆́й є҆ѵнꙋ́хъ храни́тель же́нъ: бѣ́ бо є҆сѳи́рь ѡ҆брѣта́ющаѧ благода́ть пред̾ всѣ́ми зрѧ́щими ю҆̀.

So Esther went in to king Artaxerxes in the twelfth month, which is Adar, in the seventh year of his reign.	И҆ вни́де є҆сѳи́рь ко царю̀ а҆ртаѯе́рѯꙋ во вторыйна́десѧть мцⷭ҇ъ, и҆́же є҆́сть а҆да́ръ, въ лѣ́то седмо́е ца́рства є҆гѡ̀.

And the king loved Esther, and she found favour beyond all the other virgins: and he put on her the queen's crown.	И҆ возлюбѝ ца́рь є҆сѳи́рь, и҆ ѡ҆брѣ́те благода́ть па́че всѣ́хъ дѣви́цъ, и҆ возложѝ вѣне́цъ же́нскїй на главꙋ̀ є҆ѧ̀.

And the king made a banquet for all his friends and great men for seven days, and he highly celebrated the marriage of Esther; and he made a release to those who were under his dominion.	И҆ сотворѝ ца́рь пи́ръ всѣ̑мъ дрꙋгѡ́мъ свои̑мъ и҆ си́ламъ се́дмь дні́й, и҆ вознесѐ бра́къ є҆сѳи́ринъ, и҆ сотворѝ ѿра́дꙋ сꙋ́щымъ во ца́рствїи є҆гѡ̀.

But Mardochæus served in the palace.	Мардохе́й же слꙋжа́ше во дворѣ̀ (царе́вѣ).

Now Esther had not discovered her kindred; for so Mardochæus commanded her, to fear God, and perform his commandments, as when she was with him: and Esther changed not her manner of life.	Є҆сѳи́рь же не повѣ́да ро́да своегѡ̀, (ни люді́й свои́хъ): си́це бо заповѣ́да є҆́й мардохе́й боѧ́тисѧ бг҃а и҆ твори́ти за́пѡвѣди є҆гѡ̀, ꙗ҆́коже бѣ̀ съ ни́мъ, є҆сѳи́рь же не и҆змѣнѝ ѡ҆бы́чаѧ своегѡ̀.

And two chamberlains of the king, the chiefs of the body-guard, were grieved, because Mardochæus was promoted; and they sought to kill king Artaxerxes.	И҆ ѡ҆печа́листасѧ два̀ є҆ѵнꙋ̑ха царє́ва нача́лнѣйшїи стра́жы тѣ́ла є҆гѡ̀, ꙗ҆́кѡ предпочте́нъ бы́сть мардохе́й, и҆ и҆ска́ста оу҆би́ти а҆ртаѯе́рѯа царѧ̀.

And the matter was discovered to Mardochæus, and he made it known to Esther, and she declared to the king the matter of the conspiracy.	И҆ возвѣсти́сѧ сло́во мардохе́ю, и҆ сказа̀ є҆сѳи́ри: ѻ҆на́ же повѣ́да царю̀, ꙗ҆̀же навѣ́тꙋютъ.

And the king examined the two chamberlains, and hanged them: and the king gave orders to make a note for a memorial in the royal records of the good offices of Mardochæus, as a commendation.	Ца́рь же и҆спыта̀ двꙋ̀ є҆ѵнꙋ̑хꙋ, (и҆ и҆сповѣ́даста,) и҆ ѡ҆бѣ́си и҆̀хъ. И҆ повелѣ̀ ца́рь вписа́ти на па́мѧть въ ца́рстѣй книгохрани́телницѣ ѡ҆ благодѣѧ́нїи мардохе́овѣ въ похвалꙋ̀.
Chapter 3	Глава́ г҃

And after this king Artaxerxes highly honoured Aman son of Amadathes, the Bugæan, and exalted him, and set his seat above all his friends.	И҆ по си́хъ просла́ви ца́рь а҆ртаѯе́рѯъ а҆ма́на сы́на а҆мадаѳꙋ́ина вꙋге́анина и҆ вознесѐ є҆го̀, и҆ предсѣдѧ́ше вы́шше всѣ́хъ дрꙋгѡ́въ є҆гѡ̀:

And all in the palace did him obeisance, for so the king had given orders to do: but Mardochæus did not do him obeisance.	и҆ всѝ, и҆̀же во дворѣ̀ (царе́вѣ), покланѧ́хꙋсѧ а҆ма́нꙋ: си́це бо повелѣ̀ ца́рь твори́ти. Мардохе́й же не кла́нѧшесѧ є҆мꙋ̀.

And they in the king's palace said to Mardochæus, Mardochæus, why dost thou transgress the commands of the king?	И҆ глаго́лаша сꙋ́щїи во дворѣ̀ царе́вѣ мардохе́ю: мардохе́е, чесѡ̀ ра́ди не слꙋ́шаеши глаго́лемыхъ ѿ царѧ̀;

Thus they spoke daily to him, but he hearkened not unto them; so they represented to Aman that Mardochæus resisted the commands of the king: and Mardochæus had shewn to them that he was a Jew.	По всѧ̑ же дни̑ глаго́лахꙋ є҆мꙋ̀, и҆ не послꙋ́шаше и҆́хъ. И҆ возвѣсти́ша а҆ма́нꙋ, ꙗ҆́кѡ мардохе́й сопротивлѧ́етсѧ повелѣ́нїю царе́вꙋ, и҆ повѣ́да и҆̀мъ мардохе́й, ꙗ҆́кѡ і҆ꙋде́анинъ є҆́сть.

And when Aman understood that Mardochæus did not obeisance to him, he was greatly enraged,	И҆ оу҆вѣ́давъ а҆ма́нъ, ꙗ҆́кѡ не кла́нѧетсѧ є҆мꙋ̀ мардохе́и, разгнѣ́васѧ ѕѣлѡ̀

and took counsel to destroy utterly all the Jews who were under the rule of Artaxerxes.	и҆ оу҆мы́сли погꙋби́ти всѧ̑ і҆ꙋдє́и, и҆̀же въ ца́рствѣ а҆ртаѯе́рѯовѣ:

And he made a decree in the twelfth year of the reign of Artaxerxes, and cast lots daily and monthly, to slay in one day the race of Mardochæus: and the lot fell on the fourteenth day of the month which is Adar.	и҆ сотворѝ совѣ́тъ въ лѣ́то второена́десѧть ца́рства а҆ртаѯе́рѯова, и҆ мета́ше жрє́бїѧ де́нь ѿ днѐ и҆ мцⷭ҇ъ ѿ мцⷭ҇а, ꙗ҆́кѡ погꙋби́ти во є҆ди́нъ де́нь ро́дъ мардохе́евъ: и҆ падѐ жре́бїй на четвертыйна́десѧть де́нь мцⷭ҇а, и҆́же є҆́сть а҆даръ.

And he spoke to king Artaxerxes, saying, There is a nation scattered among the nations in all thy kingdom, and their laws differ from those of all the other nations; and they disobey the laws of the king; and it is not expedient for the king to let them alone.	И҆ речѐ (а҆ма́нъ) ко царю̀ а҆ртаѯе́рѯꙋ, глаго́лѧ: є҆́сть ꙗ҆зы́къ разсѣ́ѧнный во ꙗ҆зы́цѣхъ во все́мъ ца́рствѣ твое́мъ: зако́ны же и҆́хъ стра́нни па́че всѣ́хъ ꙗ҆зы̑къ, и҆ зако́нѡвъ ца́рскихъ не слꙋ́шаютъ, и҆ не по́льзꙋетъ царю̀ ѡ҆ста́вити и҆̀хъ:

If it seem good to the king, let him make a decree to destroy them: and I will remit into the king's treasury ten thousand talents of silver.	и҆ а҆́ще го́дѣ є҆́сть царе́ви, да повели́тъ погꙋби́ти ѧ҆̀: а҆́зъ же запишꙋ̀ въ сокро́вище царе́во де́сѧть ты̀сѧщъ тала̑нтъ сребра̀.

And the king took off his ring, and gave it into the hands of Aman, to seal the decrees against the Jews.	И҆ сне́мъ ца́рь пе́рстень (съ рꙋкѝ своеѧ̀), дадѐ въ рꙋ́цѣ а҆ма́нꙋ, да запеча́таетъ писа̑нїѧ напи̑саннаѧ на і҆ꙋдє́й.

And the king said to Aman, Keep the silver, and treat the nation as thou wilt.	И҆ речѐ ца́рь а҆ма́нꙋ: сребро̀ оу҆́бѡ и҆мѣ́й ты̀ себѣ̀, лю́демъ же творѝ, ꙗ҆́коже хо́щеши.

So the king's recorders were called in the first month, on the thirteenth day, and they wrote as Aman commanded to the captains and governors in every province, from India even to Ethiopia, to a hundred and twenty-seven provinces; and to the rulers of the nations according to their several languages, in the name of king Artaxerxes.	И҆ при́звани бы́ша писцы̀ царє́вы въ третїйна́десѧть де́нь мцⷭ҇а пе́рвагѡ, и҆ написа́ша, ꙗ҆́коже повелѣ̀ а҆ма́нъ, къ воево́дамъ и҆ нача́лникѡмъ по всѣ̑мъ страна́мъ, ѿ і҆нді́йскїѧ ѡ҆́бласти да́же и҆ до є҆ѳїо́пїи, сто̀ два́десѧти седмѝ страна́мъ, нача́лствꙋющымъ над̾ ꙗ҆зы̑ки по и҆́хъ ѧ҆зы́кꙋ, и҆́менемъ а҆ртаѯе́рѯа царѧ̀.

And the message was sent by posts throughout the kingdom of Artaxerxes, to destroy utterly the race of the Jews on the first day of the twelfth month, which is Adar, and to plunder their goods.	Оу҆разꙋмѣ́вше оу҆бо, ꙗ҆́кѡ се́й ꙗ҆зыкъ є҆ди́нъ сопротивлѧ́етсѧ всегда̀ всѧ́комꙋ человѣ́кꙋ, оу҆ставле́нїе зако́нѡвъ и҆ностранное и҆змѣнѧ́етъ, и҆ проти́вѧсѧ на́шымъ дѣлѡ́мъ, гѡ́ршаѧ соверша́етъ ѕла̑ѧ, дабы̀ ца́рствїе на́ше не полꙋчи́ло благостоѧ́нїѧ: повелѣ́хомъ оу҆̀бо напи́санными къ ва́мъ гра́мотами ѿ а҆ма́на оу҆чине́нагѡ над̾ вещьмѝ (ца́рскими) и҆ втора́гѡ ѻ҆тца̀ на́шегѡ, всѣ́хъ со жена́ми и҆ ча́ды погꙋби́ти всекоре́ннѣ вра́жїими мечьмѝ без̾ всѧ́кїѧ ми́лости и҆ пощадѣ́нїѧ, въ четвертыйна́десѧть де́нь вторагѡна́десѧть мцⷭ҇а а҆да́ра, настоѧ́щагѡ лѣ́та, ꙗ҆́кѡ да бывшїи дре́вле и҆ нн҃ѣ вразѝ во є҆ди́нѣмъ днѝ го́рькѡ во а҆́дъ соше́дше, въ про́чее вре́мѧ ти́хо и҆ безмо́лвно житїѐ дадѧ́тъ на́мъ до конца̀ проходи́ти.

And the following is the copy of the letter; The great king Artaxerxes writes thus to the rulers and inferior governors of a hundred and twenty-seven provinces, from India even to Ethiopia, who hold authority under him.

Ruling over many nations, and having obtained dominion over the whole world, I was minded, (not elated by the confidence of power, but ever conducting myself with great moderation and with gentleness,) to make the lives of my subjects continually tranquil, desiring both to maintain the kingdom quiet and orderly to its utmost limits, and to restore the peace desired by all men.

But when I had enquired of my counsellors how this should be brought to pass, Aman, who excels in soundness of judgment among us, and has been manifestly well inclined without wavering and with unshaken fidelity, and has obtained the second post in the kingdom,

informed us that a certain ill-disposed people is mixed up with all the tribes throughout the world, opposed in their laws to every other nation, and continually neglecting the commands of the kings, so that the united government blamelessly administered by us is not quietly established.
13e
Having then conceived that this nation alone of all others is continually set in opposition to every man, introducing as a change a foreign code of laws, and injuriously plotting to accomplish the worst of evils against our interests, and against the happy establishment of the monarchy;

we have accordingly appointed those who are signified to you in the letters written by Aman, who is set over the public affairs and is our second governor, to destroy them all utterly with their wives and children by the swords of the enemies, without pitying or sparing any, on the fourteenth day of the twelfth month Adar, of the present year;

that the people aforetime and now ill-disposed to us having been violently consigned to death in one day, may hereafter secure to us continually a well constituted and quiet state of affairs.

And the copies of the letters were published in every province; and an order was given to all the nations to be ready against that day.	Списа̑нїѧ же є҆пїсто́лїи посыла́хꙋсѧ по страна́мъ, и҆ повелѣ́но бы́сть всѣ̑мъ ꙗ҆зы́кѡмъ готѡ́вымъ бы́ти въ нарѣче́нный де́нь.

And the business was hastened, and that at Susa: and the king and Aman began to drink; but the city was troubled.	Приспѣ́ же дѣ́ло и҆ въ сꙋ́сы: и҆ ца́рь оу҆́бѡ и҆ а҆ма́нъ пирꙋ̑юща наслажда́стасѧ, гра́дъ же (сꙋ́сы) мѧтѧ́шесѧ.
Chapter 4	Глава́ д҃

But Mardochæus having perceived what was done, rent his garments, and put on sackcloth, and sprinkled dust upon himself; and having rushed forth through the open street of the city, he cried with a loud voice, A nation that has done no wrong is going to be destroyed.	Мардохе́й же разꙋмѣ́въ замышлѧ́емое, раздра̀ ри̑зы своѧ̑ и҆ ѡ҆блече́сѧ во вре́тище и҆ посы́пасѧ пе́пеломъ: и҆ скочи́въ въ простра́ннꙋю оу҆́лицꙋ гра́да, возопѝ во́племъ вели́кимъ и҆ го́рькимъ: взима́етсѧ ро́дъ ничто́же престꙋпи́вый.

And he came to the king's gate, and stood; for it was not lawful for him to enter into the palace, wearing sackcloth and ashes.	И҆ прїи́де да́же до вра́тъ царе́выхъ и҆ ста̀: не лѣ́ть бо бѣ̀ є҆мꙋ̀ вни́ти во дво́ръ во вре́тище ѡ҆блече́нꙋ и҆ пе́пеломъ ѡ҆сы́панꙋ сꙋ́щꙋ.

And in every province where the letters were published, there was crying and lamentation and great mourning on the part of the Jews: they spread for themselves sackcloth and ashes.	И҆ во всѧ́цѣй странѣ̀, и҆дѣ́же пока́зовахꙋсѧ писа̑нїѧ (царє́ва), во́пль бѣ̀ и҆ пла́чь и҆ рыда́нїе преве́лїе і҆ꙋде́ѡмъ, вре́тище и҆ пе́пелъ постила́хꙋ себѣ̀.

And the queen's maids and chamberlains went in and told her: and when she had heard what was done, she was disturbed; and she sent to clothe Mardochæus, and take away his sackcloth; but he consented not.	И҆ внидо́ща рабы̑ни и҆ є҆ѵнꙋ́си цари̑цыны и҆ возвѣсти́ша є҆́й. И҆ смѧте́сѧ оу҆слы́шавши бы́вшее: и҆ посла̀ ри̑зы ѡ҆блещѝ мардохе́а и҆ снѧ́ти вре́тище є҆гѡ̀. И҆ не послꙋ́ша.

So Esther called for her chamberlain Achrathæus, who waited upon her; and she sent to learn the truth from Mardochæus.	Є҆сѳи́рь же призва̀ а҆храѳе́а скопца̀ своего̀, предстоѧ́щаго є҆́й,

And Mardochæus shewed him what was done, and the promise which Aman had made the king of ten thousand talents to be paid into the treasury, that he might destroy the Jews.	Мардохе́й же сказа̀ є҆мꙋ̀ бы́вшее, и҆ ѡ҆бѣща́нїе, є҆́же ѡ҆бѣша̀ а҆ма́нъ царю̀ въ сокро́вищный до́мъ (положи́ти) десѧ́ть тысѧ́щъ тала̑нтъ сребра̀, да погꙋби́тъ і҆ꙋдє́й:

And he gave him the copy of the writing that was published in Susa concerning their destruction, to shew to Esther; and told him to charge her to go in and intreat the king, and to beg him for the people, remembering, said he, the days of thy low estate, how thou wert nursed by my hand: because Aman who holds the next place to the king has spoken against us for death. Do thou call upon the Lord, and speak to the king concerning us, to deliver us from death.	и҆ списа́нїе (повелѣ́нїѧ) и҆зда́ннагѡ въ сꙋ́сѣхъ (гра́дѣ) на погꙋбле́нїе и҆́хъ дадѐ є҆мꙋ̀, да пока́жетъ є҆сѳи́ри: и҆ речѐ є҆мꙋ̀, заповѣ́дати є҆́й и҆тѝ моли́ти царѧ̀ и҆ проси́ти є҆го̀ ѡ҆ лю́дехъ, помина́юши дни̑ смире́нїѧ твоегѡ̀, ка́кѡ воспита́на є҆сѝ въ рꙋцѣ̀ мое́й, занѐ а҆ма́нъ вторы́й по царѝ глаго́ла проти́вꙋ на́мъ на сме́рть: призовѝ гдⷭ҇а и҆ глаго́ли царю̀ ѡ҆ на́съ, да и҆зба́витъ на́съ ѿ сме́рти.

So Achrathæus went in and told her all these words.	Вше́дъ же а҆храѳе́й, повѣ́да є҆сѳи́ри всѧ̑ глаго́лы сїѧ̑.

And Esther said to Achrathæus, Go to Mardochæus, and say,	И҆ речѐ є҆сѳи́рь ко а҆храѳе́ю: и҆дѝ къ мардохе́ю и҆ рцы̀:

All the nations of the empire know, that whoever, man or woman, shall go in to the king into the inner court uncalled, that person cannot live: only to whomsoever the king shall stretch out his golden sceptre, he shall live: and I have not been called to go in to the king, for these thirty days.	поне́же всѝ ꙗ҆зы́цы ца́рствїѧ вѣ́дѧтъ, ꙗ҆́кѡ всѧ́къ мꙋ́жъ и҆лѝ жена̀, и҆́же а҆́ще вни́детъ ко царве́и во внꙋ́треннїй до́мъ не при́званъ, нѣ́сть є҆мꙋ̀ спасе́нїѧ, то́чїю къ немꙋ́же а҆́ще простре́тъ ца́рь златы́й же́злъ, сей спасе́нъ бꙋ́детъ: а҆́зъ же нѣ́смь звана̀ внити ко царю̀ сѐ оу҆жѐ три́десѧть дні́й.

And Achrathæus reported to Mardochæus all the words of Esther.	И҆ возвѣстѝ а҆храѳе́й мардохе́ю всѧ̑ глаго́лы є҆сѳи̑рины.

Then Mardochæus said to Achrathæus, Go, and say to her, Esther, say not to thyself that thou alone wilt escape in the kingdom, more than all the other Jews.	И҆ речѐ мардохе́й ко а҆храѳе́ю: и҆дѝ и҆ рцы̀ є҆́й: є҆сѳи́ре, да не рече́ши въ себѣ̀, ꙗ҆́кѡ ты̀ є҆ди́на спасе́шисѧ во ца́рствїи па́че всѣ́хъ і҆ꙋдє́й:

For if thou shalt refuse to hearken on this occasion, help and protection will be to the Jews from another quarter; but thou and thy father's house will perish: and who knows, if thou hast been made queen for this very occasion?	занѐ а҆́ще преслꙋ́шаеши въ сїѐ вре́мѧ, ѿи́нꙋдꙋ по́мощь и҆ покро́въ бꙋ́детъ і҆ꙋде́ѡмъ, ты́ же и҆ до́мъ ѻ҆тца̀ твоегѡ̀ поги́бнете: и҆ кто̀ вѣ́сть, а҆́ще на сїѐ вре́мѧ воцари́ласѧ є҆сѝ;

And Esther sent the man that came to her to Mardochæus, saying,	И҆ посла̀ є҆сѳи́рь прише́дшаго къ не́й ко мардохе́ю, глаго́лющи:

Go and assemble the Jews that are in Susa, and fast ye for me, and eat not and drink not for three days, night and day: and I also and my maidens will fast; and then I will go in to the king contrary to the law, even if I must die.	Ше́дъ соберѝ і҆ꙋдє́и и҆̀же въ сꙋ́сѣхъ, и҆ пости́тесѧ ѡ҆ мнѣ̀, и҆ не ꙗ҆ди́те нижѐ пі́йте трѝ дни̑ де́нь и҆ но́щь: а҆́зъ же и҆ слꙋжє́бницы моѧ̑ (та́кожде) не и҆́мамы ꙗ҆́сти: и҆ тогда̀ вни́дꙋ ко царю̀ кромѣ̀ зако́на, а҆́ще и҆ поги́бнꙋти мѝ приключи́тсѧ.

So Mardochæus went and did all that Esther commanded him.	И҆ ше́дъ мардохе́й сотворѝ, є҆ли̑ка заповѣ́да є҆мꙋ̀ є҆сѳи́рь, и҆ помоли́сѧ гдⷭ҇еви помина́ѧ всѧ̑ дѣла̀ гдⷭ҇нѧ и҆ речѐ: гдⷭ҇и, гдⷭ҇и цр҃ю̀ вседержи́телю, ꙗ҆́кѡ во вла́сти твое́й сїѐ всѐ є҆́сть, и҆ нѣ́сть противомꙋ́дрствꙋѧй тебѣ̀, внегда̀ восхо́щеши спⷭ҇тѝ і҆и҃лѧ: ꙗ҆́кѡ ты̀ сотвори́лъ є҆сѝ не́бо и҆ зе́млю и҆ всѐ оу҆дивлѧ́емое въ поднебе́снѣй и҆ гдⷭ҇ь є҆сѝ всѣ́хъ, и҆ нѣ́сть, и҆́же воспроти́витсѧ тебѣ̀ гдⷭ҇еви: ты̀ всѧ̑ вѣ́си, ты̀ зна́еши, гдⷭ҇и, ꙗ҆́кѡ не въ оу҆кори́знѣ ни въ го́рдости, нижѐ во тщела́вїи сотвори́хъ сїѐ, є҆́же не покланѧ́тисѧ прего́рдомꙋ а҆ма́нꙋ, поне́же благоволи́мъ бы́хъ лобза́ти и҆ слѣды̀ но́гъ є҆гѡ̀ спасе́нїѧ ра́ди і҆и҃лева, но сїѐ сотвори́хъ, да не возда́мъ сла́вы человѣ́кꙋ па́че сла́вы бж҃ѧ, и҆ не поклоню́сѧ ни комꙋ́же, кромѣ̀ тебє̀ гдⷭ҇а моегѡ̀, и҆ не сотворю̀ сїѧ̑ въ гордости: и҆ нн҃ѣ, гдⷭ҇и бж҃е, цр҃ю̀, бж҃е а҆враа́мовъ, пощадѝ лю́ди твоѧ̑, ꙗ҆́кѡ назира́ютъ на́мъ въ поги́бель и҆ вожделѣ́ша погꙋби́ти є҆́же и҆з̾ нача́ла наслѣ́бдїе твоѐ: не пре́зри достоѧ̑нїѧ твоегѡ̀, є҆́же и҆зба́вилъ є҆сѝ тебѣ̀ ѿ землѝ є҆гѵ́петскїѧ: оу҆слы́ши моли́твꙋ мою̀, и҆ оу҆млⷭ҇рдисѧ над̾ жре́бїемъ твои́мъ, и҆ ѡ҆братѝ рыда́нїе на́ше въ весе́лїе, да живꙋ́ще восхвали́мъ и҆́мѧ твое́, гдⷭ҇и, и҆ не погꙋбѝ оу҆́стъ восхвалѧ́ющихъ тѧ̀, гдⷭ҇и. And he besought the Lord, making mention of all the works of the Lord; and he said,

Lord God, king ruling over all, for all things are in thy power, and there is no one that shall oppose thee in thy purpose to save Israel.—
17c
For thou hast made the heaven and the earth, and every wonderful thing in the world under heaven. And thou art Lord of all, and there is no one who shall resist thee the Lord.
17d
Thou knowest all things: thou knowest, Lord, that it is not in insolence, nor haughtiness, nor love of glory, that I have done this, to refuse obeisance to the haughty Aman. For I would gladly have kissed the soles of his feet for the safety of Israel.
17e
But I have done this, that I might not set the glory of man above the glory of God: and I will not worship any one except thee, my Lord, and I will not do these things in haughtiness.
17f
And now, O Lord God, the King, the God of Abraam, spare thy people, for our enemies are looking upon us to our destruction, and they have desired to destroy thine ancient inheritance.
17g
Do not overlook thy peculiar people, whom thou hast redeemed for thyself out of the land of Egypt.
17h
Hearken to my prayer, and be propitious to thine inheritance, and turn our mourning into gladness, that we may live and sing praise to thy name, O Lord; and do not utterly destroy the mouth of them that praise thee, O Lord.
17i
And all Israel cried with all their might, for their death was before their eyes.

And queen Esther betook herself for refuge to the Lord, being taken as it were in the agony of death. And having taken off her glorious apparel, she put on garments of distress and mourning; and instead of grand perfumes she filled her head with ashes and dung, and she greatly brought down her body, and she filled every place of her glad adorning with the torn curls of her hair. And she besought the Lord God of Israel, and said,

O my Lord, thou alone art our king: help me who am destitute, and have no helper but thee, for my danger is near at hand.
17m
I have heard from my birth, in the tribe of my kindred, that thou, Lord, tookest Israel out of all the nations, and our fathers out of all their kindred for a perpetual inheritance, and hast wrought for them all that thou hast said.
17n
And now we have sinned before thee, and thou hast delivered us into the hands of our enemies, because we honoured their gods: thou art righteous, O Lord.
17o
But now they have not been contented with the bitterness of our slavery, but have laid their hands on the hands of their idols, in order to abolish the decree of thy mouth, and utterly to destroy thine inheritance, and to stop the mouth of them that praise thee, and to extinguish the glory of thine house and thine altar,

and to open the mouth of the Gentiles to speak the praises of vanities, and in order that a mortal king should be admired for ever.
17q
O Lord, do not resign thy sceptre to them that are not, and let them not laugh at our fall, but turn their counsel against themselves, and make an example of him who has begun to injure us.
17r
Remember us, O Lord, manifest thyself in the time of our affliction, and encourage me, O king of gods, and ruler of all dominion.

Put harmonious speech into my mouth before the lion, and turn his heart to hate him that fights against us, to the utter destruction of him and of them that consent with him.
17t
But deliver us by thine hand, and help me who am destitute, and have none but thee, O Lord.

Thou knowest all things, and knowest that I hate the glory of transgressors, and that I abhor the couch of the uncircumcised, and of every stranger.

Thou knowest my necessity, for I abhor the symbol of my proud station, which is upon my head in the days of my splendour: I abhor it as a menstruous cloth, and I wear it not in the days of my tranquillity.

And thy handmaid has not eaten at the table of Aman, and I have not honoured the banquet of the king, neither have I drunk wine of libations.

Neither has thy handmaid rejoiced since the day of my promotion until now, except in thee, O Lord God of Abraam.

O God, who hast power over all, hearken to the voice of the desperate, and deliver us from the hand of them that devise mischief; and deliver me from my fear.

And it came to pass on the third day, when she had ceased praying, that she put off her mean dress, and put on her glorious apparel. And being splendidly arrayed, and having called upon God the Overseer and Preserver of all things, she took her two maids, and she leaned upon one, as a delicate female, and the other followed bearing her train.

And she was blooming in the perfection of her beauty; and her face was cheerful, as it were benevolent, but her heart was straitened for fear.
1c
And having passed through all the doors, she stood before the king: and he was sitting upon his royal throne, and he had put on all his glorious apparel, covered all over with gold and precious stones, and was very terrible.
1d
And having raised his face resplendent with glory, he looked with intense anger: and the queen fell, and changed her colour as she fainted; and she bowed herself upon the head of the maid that went before her.

But God changed the spirit of the king to gentleness, and in intense feeling he sprang from off his throne, and took her into his arms, until she recovered: and he comforted her with peaceable words, and said to her,

What is the matter, Esther? I am thy brother; be of good cheer, thou shalt not die, for our command is openly declared to thee, Draw nigh.

And having raised the golden sceptre he laid it upon her neck, and embraced her, and said, Speak to me.	И҆ взе́мъ златы́й же́злъ (ца́рь) возложѝ на вы́ю є҆ѧ̀ и҆ ѡ҆блобыза̀ ю҆̀ и҆ речѐ: глаго́ли мѝ. И҆ речѐ є҆мꙋ̀: ви́дѣхъ тѧ̀, господи́не, ꙗ҆́кѡ а҆́гг҃ла бжїѧ, и҆ смте́сѧ се́рдце моѐ ѿ стра́ха сла́вы твоеѧ̀, ꙗ҆́кѡ ди́венъ є҆сѝ, господи́не, и҆ лицѐ твоѐ благода́тей и҆спо́лнено. And she said to him, I saw thee, my lord, as an angel of God, and my heart was troubled for fear of thy glory; for thou, my lord, art to be wondered at, and thy face is full of grace.

And while she was speaking, she fainted and fell. Then the king was troubled, and all his servants comforted her.

And the king said, What wilt thou, Esther? and what is thy request? ask even to the half of my kingdom, and it shall be thine.	И҆ речѐ є҆́й ца́рь: что̀ хо́щешн, є҆сѳи́ре; и҆ что̀ проше́нїе твоѐ; бꙋ́детъ тѝ да́же и҆ до полꙋца́рства моегѡ̀.

And Esther said, To-day is my great day: if then it seem good to the king, let both him and Aman come to the feast which I will prepare this day.	И҆ речѐ є҆сѳи́рь: де́нь моегѡ̀ пра́зднованїѧ дне́сь є҆́сть: а҆́ще оу҆̀бо оу҆го́дно є҆́сть царе́ви, да прїи́детъ ца́рь и҆ а҆ма́нъ на пи́ръ, є҆го́же сотворю̀ дне́сь.

And the king said, Hasten Aman hither, that we may perform the word of Esther. So they both come to the feast of which Esther had spoken.	И҆ речѐ ца́рь: оу҆скори́те и҆тѝ по а҆ма́на, да сотвори́мъ сло́во є҆сѳи́рино. И҆ прїидо́ста ѻ҆́ба на пи́ръ, є҆го́же сотворѝ є҆сѳи́рь.

And at the banquet the king said to Esther, What is thy request, queen Esther? speak, and thou shalt have all that thou requirest.	На пирꙋ́ же речѐ ца́рь ко є҆сѳи́ри: что́ є҆сть, є҆сѳи́ре цари́це; (и҆ ка́ѧ є҆́сть мы́сль проше́нїѧ твоегѡ̀; да́мъ тѝ и҆ до полꙋца́рства моегѡ̀,) и҆ бꙋ́детъ є҆ли́кѡ проси́ши.

And she said, My request and my petition are:	И҆ речѐ є҆сѳи́рь : проше́нїе моѐ и҆ моле́нїе:

if I have found favour in the sight of the king, let the king and Aman come again to-morrow to the feast which I shall prepare for them, and to-morrow I will do the same.	а҆́ще ѡ҆брѣто́хъ благода́ть пред̾ царе́мъ, да прїи́детъ ца́рь и҆ а҆ма́нъ є҆щѐ заꙋ́тра на пи́ръ, є҆го́же сотворю̀ и҆́ма, и҆ заꙋ́тра сотворю̀ сїѐ проше́нїе.

So Aman went out from the king very glad and merry: but when Aman saw Mardochæus the Jew in the court, he was greatly enraged.	И҆ и҆зы́де а҆ма́нъ ѿ царѧ̀ ѕѣлѡ̀ ра́достенъ и҆ ве́селъ: ви́дѣвъ же мардохе́а і҆ꙋде́анина во дворѣ̀ (царе́вѣ не подви́гнꙋвшасѧ и҆ не кла́нѧющатѧ пре́д̾ ни́мъ), воз̾ѧри́сѧ ѕѣлѡ̀:

And having gone into his own house, he called his friends, and his wife Zosara.	и҆ вше́дъ въ до́мъ сво́й, призва̀ дрꙋ́ги своѧ̑ и҆ зѡса́рꙋ женꙋ̀ свою̀

And he shewed them his wealth, and the glory with which the king had invested him, and how he had caused him to take precedence and bear chief rule in the kingdom.	и҆ показа̀ и҆̀мъ бога́тство своѐ и҆ сла́вꙋ, є҆́юже возвели́чи є҆го̀ ца́рь, и҆ ꙗ҆́кѡ сотворѝ є҆го̀ пе́рваго бы́ти и҆ пра́вити ца́рствїе.

And Aman said, The queen has called no one to the feast with the king but me, and I am invited to-morrow.	И҆ речѐ а҆ма́нъ: не зва̀ цари́ца ни є҆ди́нагѡ на пи́ръ со царе́мъ, но то́чїю менѐ, и҆ наꙋ́трїе зва́ше мѧ̀:

But these things please me not, while I see Mardochæus the Jew in the court.	но сїѧ̑ не сꙋ́ть мѝ оу҆гѡ́дна, є҆гда̀ ви́ждꙋ мардохе́а і҆ꙋде́анина во дворѣ̀ (царе́вѣ).

And Zosara his wife and his friends said to him, Let there be a gallows made for thee of fifty cubits, and in the morning do thou speak to the king, and let Mardochæus be hanged on the gallows: but do thou go in to the feast with the king, and be merry. And the saying pleased Aman, and the gallows was prepared. Chapter 6	Глава́ ѕ҃

But the Lord removed sleep from the king that night: and he told his servant to bring in the books, the registers of daily events, to read to him.	Гдⷭ҇ь же ѿѧ̀ со̀нъ ѿ царѧ̀ въ нощѝ ѻ҆́нѣй. И҆ повелѣ̀ рабꙋ̀ своемꙋ̀ принестѝ кни̑ги па̑мѧтныѧ дні́й прочита́ти є҆мꙋ̀:

And he found the records written concerning Mardochæus, how he had told the king concerning the two chamberlains of the king, when they were keeping guard, and sought to lay hands on Artaxerxes.	и҆ ѡ҆брѣ́те писа̑нїѧ напи̑саннаѧ ѡ҆ мардохе́и, ка́кѡ повѣ́да царю̀ ѡ҆ двою̀ є҆ѵнꙋ̑хꙋ ца̑рскꙋю, внегда̀ стрещѝ и҆́ма, и҆ оу҆мы́слиста оу҆би́ти (царѧ̀) а҆ртаѯе́рѯа.

And the king said, What honour or favour have we done to Mardochæus? And the king's servants said, Thou hast not done anything to him.	И҆ речѐ ца́рь: кꙋ́ю сла́вꙋ и҆лѝ благода́ть сотвори́хомъ мардохе́ю; И҆ реко́ша ѻ҆́троцы царє́вы: ничто́же сотвори́лъ є҆сѝ є҆мꙋ̀;

And while the king was enquiring about the kindness of Mardochæus, behold, Aman was in the court. And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Aman was come in to speak to the king, that he should hang Mardochæus on the gallows, which he had prepared.	Вопроша́ющꙋ же царю̀ ѡ҆ благодѣѧ́нїи мардохе́овѣ, сѐ, а҆ма́нъ прїи́де во дво́ръ, и҆ речѐ ца́рь: кто̀ є҆́сть во дворѣ̀; А҆ма́нъ же прїи́де рещѝ царе́ви, да повѣ́ситъ мардохе́а на дре́вѣ, є҆́же оу҆гото́ва.

And the king's servants said, Behold, Aman stands in the court. And the king said, Call him.	И҆ реко́ша ѻ҆́троцы царє́вы: сѐ, а҆ма́нъ стои́тъ во дворѣ̀. И҆ речѐ ца́рь: призови́те є҆го̀.

And the king said to Aman, What shall I do to the man whom I wish to honour? And Aman said within himself, Whom would the king honour but myself?	И҆ речѐ ца́рь а҆ма́нꙋ: что̀ сотворю̀ мꙋ́жꙋ, є҆го́же а҆́зъ хощꙋ̀ просла́вити; рече́ же въ себѣ̀ а҆ма́нъ: кого̀ хо́щетъ ца́рь просла́вити, ра́звѣ менє̀;

and he said to the king, As for the man whom the king wishes to honour,	Рече́ же царю̀: мꙋ́жа, є҆го́же хо́щетъ ца́рь просла́вити,

let the king's servants bring the robe of fine linen which the king puts on, and the horse on which the king rides,	да принесꙋ́тъ ѻ҆́троцы царє́вы ѻ҆де́ждꙋ вѷссо́ннꙋю, є҆́юже ца́рь ѡ҆блача́етсѧ, и҆ конѧ̀, на не́мже ца́рь ѣ҆́здитъ,

and let him give it to one of the king's noble friends, and let him array the man whom the king loves; and let him mount him on the horse, and proclaim through the street of the city, saying, Thus shall it be done to every man whom the king honours.	и҆ да да́стсѧ є҆ди́номꙋ ѿ дрꙋгѡ́въ царе́выхъ сла́вныхъ, и҆ да ѡ҆блече́тъ мꙋ́жа, є҆го́же ца́рь лю́битъ, и҆ да поса́дитъ є҆го̀ на конѧ̀ и҆ проповѣ́сть на оу҆́лицахъ гра́да, глаго́лѧ: та́кѡ бꙋ́детъ всѧ́комꙋ человѣ́кꙋ, є҆го́же ца́рь просла́витъ.

Then the king said to Aman, Thou hast well said: so do to Mardochæus the Jew, who waits in the palace, and let not a word of what thou hast spoken be neglected.	И҆ речѐ ца́рь а҆ма́нꙋ: до́брѣ ре́клъ є҆сѝ: та́кѡ сотворѝ мардохе́ю і҆ꙋде́анинꙋ, оу҆го́днѡ слꙋжа́щемꙋ во дворѣ̀ (на́шемъ), и҆ да не и҆змѣни́тсѧ сло́во твоѐ ѿ си́хъ, ꙗ҆̀же ре́клъ є҆сѝ.

So Aman took the robe and the horse, and arrayed Mardochæus, and mounted him on the horse, and went through the street of the city, and proclaimed, saying, Thus shall it be to every man whom the king wishes to honour. And Mardochæus returned to the palace: but Aman went home mourning, and having his head covered.	И҆ возврати́сѧ мардохе́и во дво́ръ (царе́въ): а҆ма́нъ же и҆́де въ до́мъ сво́й скорбѧ̀ преклони́въ главꙋ̀.

And Aman related the events that had befallen him to Zosara his wife, and to his friends: and his friends and his wife said to him, If Mardochæus be of the race of the Jews, and thou hast begun to be humbled before him, thou wilt assuredly fall, and thou wilt not be able to withstand him, for the living God is with him. While they were yet speaking, the chamberlains arrived, to hasten Aman to the banquet which Esther had prepared.	И҆ є҆щѐ глаго́лющымъ и҆̀мъ, прїидо́ша є҆ѵнꙋ́си, спѣ́шнѡ зовꙋ́ще а҆ма́на на пи́ръ, є҆го́же оу҆гото́ва є҆сѳи́рь.
Chapter 7	Глава́ з҃

So the king and Aman went in to drink with the queen.	Вни́де же ца́рь и҆ а҆ма́нъ пирова́ти со цари́цею.

And the king said to Esther at the banquet on the second day, What is it, queen Esther? and what is thy request, and what is thy petition? and it shall be done for thee, to the half of my kingdom.	И҆ речѐ ца́рь є҆́сѳи́ри во вторы́й де́нь на пирꙋ̀: что́ є҆сть, є҆сѳи́ре цари́це; и҆ что̀ проше́нїе твоѐ; и҆ что̀ моле́нїе твоѐ; и҆ бꙋ́детъ тебѣ̀ до полꙋца́рствїѧ моегѡ̀.

And she answered and said, If I have found favour in the sight of the king, let my life be granted to my petition, and my people to my request.	И҆ ѿвѣща́вши (є҆сѳи́рь цари́ца) речѐ: а҆́ще ѡ҆брѣто́хъ благода́ть пред̾ ѻ҆чи́ма твои́ма, царю̀, да да́стсѧ дꙋша̀ моѧ̀ проше́нїю моемꙋ̀ и҆ лю́дїе моѝ моле́нїю моемꙋ̀:

For both I and my people are sold for destruction, and pillage, and slavery; both we and our children for bondmen and bondwomen: and I consented not to it, for the slanderer is not worthy of the king's palace.	про́дани бо є҆смы̀, а҆́зъ же и҆ лю́дїе моѝ, на поги́бель и҆ расхище́нїе и҆ въ рабо́тꙋ, мы́ же и҆ ча̑да на̑ша въ рабы̑ и҆ рабы̑ни, и҆ небрего́хъ: нѣ́сть бо досто́инъ клеветни́къ двора̀ царе́ва.

And the king said, Who is this that has dared to do this thing?	И҆ речѐ ца́рь: кто̀ є҆́сть се́й, и҆́же дерзнꙋ̀ сотвори́ти ве́щь сїю̀;

And Esther said, The adversary is Aman, this wicked man. Then Aman was troubled before the king and the queen.	И҆ речѐ є҆сѳи́рь: человѣ́къ вра́гъ, а҆ма́нъ лꙋка́вый се́й. А҆ма́нъ же смѧте́сѧ ѿ царѧ̀ и҆ цари́цы.

And the king rose up from the banquet to go into the garden: and Aman began to intreat the queen; for he saw that he was in an evil case.	Ца́рь же воста̀ со гнѣ́вомъ ѿ пи́ра (и҆ и҆́де) въ вертогра́дъ: а҆ма́нъ же молѧ́ше цари́цꙋ, ви́дѧше бо себѐ въ бѣда́хъ сꙋ́ща.

And the king returned from the garden; and Aman had fallen upon the bed, intreating the queen. And the king said, Wilt thou even force my wife in my house? And when Aman heard it, he changed countenance.	Возврати́сѧ же ца́рь и҆з вертогра́да, и҆ а҆ма́нъ припадѐ къ ло́жꙋ, на не́мже бѣ̀ є҆сѳи́рь, молѧ̀ цари́цꙋ. И҆ речѐ ца́рь: є҆гда̀ и҆ женꙋ̀ наси́лꙋетъ въ домꙋ̀ мое́мъ; А҆ма́нъ же слы́шавъ и҆змѣни́сѧ лице́мъ.

And Bugathan, one of the chamberlains, said to the king, Behold, Aman has also prepared a gallows for Mardochæus, who spoke concerning the king, and a gallows of fifty cubits high has been set up in the premises of Aman. And the king said, Let him be hanged thereon.	Рече́ же вꙋгаѳа́нъ є҆ди́нъ ѿ скопцє́въ, се́й же вѣ́дѧше ѡ҆ то́мъ дре́вѣ, ви́дѣвъ є҆̀ въ домꙋ̀ а҆ма́новѣ, є҆гда̀ призыва́ше є҆го̀ на ѡ҆бѣ́дъ ца́рскїй, и҆ ѡ҆ се́мъ и҆спыта́въ є҆ди́наго ѿ ѻ҆́трѡкъ, оу҆разꙋмѣ́въ замышлѧ́емое, и҆ речѐ ко царю̀: сѐ, и҆ дре́во оу҆гото́ва а҆ма́нъ мардохе́ю глаго́лавшемꙋ блага̑ѧ ѡ҆ царѝ, и҆ стои́тъ въ домꙋ̀ а҆ма́новѣ возвыше́но на лакѡ́тъ пѧтьдесѧ́тъ. So Aman was hanged on the gallows that had been prepared for Mardochæus: and then the king's wrath was appeased.	И҆ повѣ́шенъ бы́сть а҆ма́нъ на дре́вѣ, є҆́же оу҆гото́ва мардохе́ю. И҆ тогда̀ ца́рь оу҆толи́сѧ ѿ ꙗ҆́рости.
Chapter 8	Глава́ и҃

And in that day king Artaxerxes gave to Esther all that belonged to Aman the slanderer: and Mardochæus was called by the king; for Esther had shewn that he was related to her.	И҆ въ то́й де́нь ца́рь а҆ртаѯе́рѯъ дарова̀ є҆сѳи́ри, є҆ли̑ка бѧ́хꙋ а҆ма́на клеветника̀ (і҆ꙋде́йска): и҆ мардохе́и при́званъ бы́сть ѿ царѧ̀, повѣ́да бо є҆сѳи́рь, ꙗ҆́кѡ сро́дникъ є҆́сть є҆́й.

And the king took the ring which he had taken away from Aman, and gave it to Mardochæus: and Esther appointed Mardochæus over all that had been Aman's.	И҆ снѧ̀ ца́рь пе́рстень сво́й, є҆го́же ѿѧ̀ оу҆ а҆ма́на, и҆ даде́ мардохе́еви. И҆ поста́ви є҆сѳи́рь мардохе́а над̾ всѣ́мъ и҆мѣ́нїемъ а҆ма́новымъ,

And she spoke yet again to the king, and fell at his feet, and besought him to do away the mischief of Aman, and all that he had done against the Jews.	и҆ приложѝ глаго́лати ко царю̀, и҆ припадѐ пред̾ нога́ма є҆гѡ̀ (и҆ воспла́ка), и҆ молѧ́ше є҆го̀ ѿврати́ти ѕло́бꙋ а҆ма́новꙋ и҆ мы́сль є҆гѡ̀, є҆́юже помы́сли на і҆ꙋдє́и.

Then the king stretched out to Esther the golden sceptre: and Esther arose to stand near the king.	И҆ прострѐ ца́рь є҆сѳи́ри же́злъ зла́тъ: воста́ же є҆сѳи́рь и҆ ста̀ пред̾ царе́мъ.

And Esther said, If it seem good to thee, and I have found favour in thy sight, let an order be sent that the letters sent by Aman may be reversed, that were written for the destruction of the Jews, who are in thy kingdom.	И҆ речѐ є҆сѳи́рь: а҆́ще оу҆го́дио тѝ є҆́сть, и҆ ѡ҆брѣто́хъ благода́ть пред̾ тобо́ю, послѝ возврати́ти писа̑нїѧ пѡ́сланнаѧ ѿ а҆ма́на, пи̑санаѧ на погꙋбле́нїе і҆ꙋде́ѡвъ, и҆̀же ѡ҆бита́ютъ во (все́мъ) ца́рствїи твое́мъ:

For how shall I be able to look upon the affliction of my people, and how shall I be able to survive the destruction of my kindred?	ка́кѡ бо возмогꙋ̀ ви́дѣти ѡ҆ѕлобле́нїе люді́й мои́хъ и҆ ка́кѡ возмогꙋ̀ спасти́сѧ въ поги́бели ѻ҆те́чества моегѡ̀;

And the king said to Esther, If I have given and freely granted thee all that was Aman's, and hanged him on a gallows, because he laid his hands upon the Jews, what dost thou yet further seek?	И҆ речѐ ца́рь є҆сѳи́ри: а҆́ще всѧ̑ и҆мѣ̑нїѧ а҆ма́нѡва да́хъ и҆ дарова́хъ тебѣ̀, и҆ того̀ повѣ́сихъ на дре́вѣ, ꙗ҆́кѡ рꙋ́цѣ вознесѐ на і҆ꙋдє́и, что̀ є҆щѐ проси́ши;

Write ye also in my name, as it seems good to you, and seal it with my ring: for whatever orders are written at the command of the king, and sealed with my ring, it is not lawful to gainsay them.	напиши́те и҆ вы̀ и҆́менемъ мои́мъ, ꙗ҆́коже оу҆го́дно є҆́сть ва́мъ, и҆ запеча́тайте пе́рстнемъ мои́мъ: є҆ли̑ка бо пи̑сана быва́ютъ царе́вымъ повелѣ́нїемъ и҆ запеча́таютсѧ пе́рстнемъ мои́мъ, не возмо́жно и҆̀мъ противорещѝ.

So the scribes were called in the first month, which is Nisan, on the three and twentieth day of the same year; and orders were written to the Jews, whatever the king had commanded to the local governors and chiefs of the satraps, from India even to Ethiopia, a hundred and twenty-seven satraps, according to the several provinces, according to their dialects. And they were written by order of the king, and sealed with his ring, and they sent the letters by the posts:	Напи̑сана же бы́ша велѣ́нїемъ царе́вымъ и҆ запечатлѣ́шасѧ пе́рстнемъ є҆гѡ̀: и҆ посла́ша писа̑нїѧ чрез̾ писмоно́сцы,

wherein he charged them to use their own laws in every city, and to help each other, and to treat their adversaries, and those who attacked them, as they pleased,	ꙗ҆́кѡ повелѣ̀ и҆̀мъ жи́ти по зако́нѡмъ и҆́хъ во всѧ́цѣмъ гра́дѣ, и҆ да помога́ютъ и҆мъ, и҆ да сотворѧ́тъ сопе́рникѡмъ и҆́хъ и҆ проти́вникѡмъ и҆́хъ, ꙗ҆́коже хотѧ́тъ,

on one day in all the kingdom of Artaxerxes, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is Adar.	въ де́нь є҆ди́нъ по всемꙋ̀ ца́рствꙋ а҆ртаѯе́рѯовꙋ, въ третїйна́десѧть де́нь вторагѡна́десѧть мцⷭ҇а, и҆́же є҆́сть а҆да́ръ.

And the following is the copy of the letter of the orders.

The great king Artaxerxes sends greeting to the rulers of provinces in a hundred and twenty-seven satrapies, from India to Ethiopia, even to those who are faithful to our interests.
12c
Many who have been frequently honoured by the most abundant kindness of their benefactors have conceived ambitious designs, and not only endeavour to hurt our subjects, but moreover, not being able to bear prosperity, they also endeavour to plot against their own benefactors.
12d
And they not only would utterly abolish gratitude from among men, but also, elated by the boastings of men who are strangers to all that is good, they suppose that they shall escape the sin-hating vengeance of the ever-seeing God.
12e
And oftentimes evil exhortation has made partakers of the guilt of shedding innocent blood, and has involved in irremediable calamities, many of those who were appointed to offices of authority, who had been entrusted with the management of their friends' affairs;
12f
while men, by the false sophistry of an evil disposition, have deceived the simple candour of the ruling powers.
12g
And it is possible to see this, not so much from more ancient traditionary accounts, as it is immediately in your power to see it by examining what things have been wickedly perpetrated by the baseness of men unworthily holding power.

And it is right to take heed with regard to the future, that we may maintain the government in undisturbed peace for all men,
12i
adopting needful changes, and ever judging those cases which come under our notice, with truly equitable decision.

For whereas Aman, a Macedonian, the son of Amadathes, in reality an alien from the blood of the Persians, and differing widely from our mild course of government, having been hospitably entertained by us,
12l
obtained so large a share of our universal kindness, as to be called our father, and to continue the person next to the royal throne, reverenced of all;
12m
he, however, overcome by the pride of his station, endeavoured to deprive us of our dominion, and our life;
12n
having by various and subtle artifices demanded for destruction both Mardochæus our deliverer and perpetual benefactor, and Esther the blameless consort of our kingdom, with their whole nation.
12o
For by these methods he thought, having surprised us in a defenceless state, to transfer the dominion of the Persians to the Macedonians.

But we find that the Jews, who have been consigned to destruction by the most abominable of men, are not malefactors, but living according to the justest laws,

and being the sons of the living God, the most high and mighty, who maintains the kingdom, to us as well as to our forefathers, in the most excellent order.

Ye will therefore do well in refusing to obey the letters sent by Aman the son of Amadathes, because he that has done these things, has been hanged with his whole family at the gates of Susa, Almighty God having swiftly returned to him a worthy recompence.

We enjoin you then, having openly published a copy of this letter in every place, to give the Jews permission to use their own lawful customs, and to strengthen them, that on the thirteenth of the twelfth month Adar, on the self-same day, they may defend themselves against those who attacked them in a time of affliction.

For in the place of the destruction of the chosen race, Almighty God has granted them this time of gladness.

Do ye therefore also, among your notable feasts, keep a distinct day with all festivity, that both now and hereafter it may be a day of deliverance to us and those who are well disposed toward the Persians, but to those that plotted against us a memorial of destruction.

And every city and province collectively, which shall not do accordingly, shall be consumed with vengeance by spear and fire: it shall be made not only inaccessible to men, but also most hateful to wild beasts and birds for ever.

And let the copies be posted in conspicuous places throughout the kingdom, and let all the Jews be ready against this day, to fight against their enemies. So the horsemen went forth with haste to perform the king's commands; and the ordinance was also published in Susa.	Кѡ́нницы оу҆̀бо и҆зыдо́ша спѣ́шнѡ повелѣ̑ннаѧ ѿ царѧ̀ соверши́ти. Предлага́шесѧ же повелѣ́нїе и҆ въ сꙋ́сѣхъ.

And Mardochæus went forth robed in the royal apparel, and wearing a golden crown, and a diadem of fine purple linen: and the people in Susa saw it and rejoiced.	И҆ мардохе́й и҆зы́де ѡ҆блече́нъ въ ца́рскꙋю ѻ҆де́ждꙋ и҆ вѣне́цъ и҆мꙋ́щь златы́й, дїади́мꙋ вѷссо́ннꙋю, червле́нꙋю. Ви́дѣвше же сꙋ́щїи въ сꙋ́сѣхъ возра́довашасѧ,

And the Jews had light and gladness,	ꙗ҆́кѡ і҆ꙋде́ѡмъ бы́сть свѣ́тъ и҆ весе́лїе:

in every city and province wherever the ordinance was published: wherever the proclamation took place, the Jews had joy and gladness, feasting and mirth: and many of the Gentiles were circumcised, and became Jews, for fear of the Jews.	во (всѧ́цѣмъ) гра́дѣ и҆ странѣ̀, и҆дѣ́же а҆́ще предлага́шесѧ повелѣ́нїе ра́дость и҆ весе́лїе бѣ̀ і҆ꙋде́ѡмъ, пирова́нїе и҆ оу҆тѣше́нме. И҆ мно́зи ѿ ꙗ҆зы̑къ ѡ҆брѣ́зовахꙋсѧ и҆ зако́нъ і҆ꙋде́йскїй прїима́хꙋ, стра́ха ра́ди і҆ꙋде́йскагѡ.
Chapter 9	Глава́ ѳ҃

For in the twelfth month, on the thirteenth day of the month which is Adar, the letters written by the king arrived.	Во вторыйна́десѧть мцⷭ҇ъ, и҆же є҆́сть а҆да́ръ, въ третїйна́десѧть де́нь мцⷭ҇а прїидо́ша писа̑нїѧ ѿ царѧ̀.

In that day the adversaries of the Jews perished: for no one resisted, through fear of them.	Въ то́й же день погибо́ша сꙋпоста́ты і҆ꙋде́євъ: ни є҆ди́нъ бо сопроти́висѧ и҆̀мъ боѧ́сѧ и҆́хъ.
3	3
For the chiefs of the satraps, and the princes and the royal scribes, honoured the Jews; for the fear of Mardochæus lay upon them.	Нача́лствꙋющїи бо стра́намъ и҆ власти́телїе и҆ ца́рстїи книгѡ́чїѧ почита́хꙋ і҆ꙋдє́й:

For the order of the king was in force, that he should be celebrated in all the kingdom.	стра́хъ бо мардохе́евъ належа́ше на ни́хъ.

And in the city Susa the Jews slew five hundred men:	И҆ въ сꙋ́сѣхъ гра́дѣ и҆зби́ша і҆ꙋде́є пѧ́ть сѡ́тъ мꙋже́й:

both Pharsannes, and Delphon and Phasga,	Фарса́на, неста́нна и҆ делфѡ́на, и҆ фасга́на
8	8
and Pharadatha, and Barea, and Sarbaca,	и҆ фардаѳа́на, и҆ варе́а и҆ сарвака́на,
9	9
and Marmasima, and Ruphæus, and Arsæus, and Zabuthæus,	и҆ мармасі́ма и҆ рꙋфе́а, и҆ а҆рсе́а и҆ завꙋѳеѳа́ма,
10	10
the ten sons of Aman the son of Amadathes the Bugæan, the enemy of the Jews, and they plundered their property on the same day:	де́сѧть сынѡ́въ а҆ма́на а҆мадаѳꙋ́ева вꙋге́анина врага̀ і҆ꙋдеѡмъ, и҆́же ѿ ѳармаѳе́а, и҆ разгра́биша въ то́й де́нь (и҆мѣ̑нїѧ и҆́хъ):

and the number of them that perished in Susa was rendered to the king.	и҆ сказа́ша число̀ и҆збїе́нныхъ царю̀ въ сꙋ́сѣхъ гра́дѣ.

And the king said to Esther, The Jews have slain five hundred men in the city Susa; and how, thinkest thou, have they used them in the rest of the country? What then dost thou yet ask, that it may be done for thee?	И҆ речѐ ца́рь ко є҆сѳи́ри: и҆зби́ша і҆ꙋде́є въ сꙋ́сѣъ гра́дѣ пѧ́ть сѡ́тъ мꙋже́й, по ѡ҆крє́стнымъ же страна́мъ коли́кѡ, мни́ши, погꙋби́ша; и҆ чесогѡ̀ є҆щѐ проси́ши, и҆ бꙋ́детъ тѝ;

And Esther said to the king, Let it be granted to the Jews so to treat them to-morrow as to hang the ten sons of Aman.	И҆ речѐ є҆сѳи́рь ко царю̀: да да́стсѧ та́кожде і҆ꙋде́ѡмъ твори́ти заꙋ́тра, ꙗ҆́кѡ да повѣ́сѧтъ де́сѧть сынѡ́въ а҆ма́новыхъ.

And he permitted it to be so done; and he gave up to the Jews of the city the bodies of the sons of Aman to hang.	И҆ повелѣ̀ ца́рь та́кѡ бы́ти, и҆ попꙋстѝ і҆ꙋде́ѡмъ внѣ̀ гра́да повѣ́сити тѣлеса̀ сынѡ́въ а҆ма́новыхъ.
15	15
And the Jews assembled in Susa on the fourteenth day of Adar, and slew three hundred men, but plundered no property.	И҆ собра́шасѧ і҆ꙋде́є, и҆̀же въ сꙋ́сѣхъ, въ четвертыйна́десѧть дее́нь а҆да́ра, и҆ и҆зби́ша мꙋже́й три́ста, и҆ ничто́же разгра́биша.
16	16
And the rest of the Jews who were in the kingdom assembled, and helped one another, and obtained rest from their enemies: for they destroyed fifteen thousand of them on the thirteenth day of Adar, but took no spoil.	Про́чїи же і҆ꙋде́є, и҆̀же во ца́рствїи, собра́шасѧ и҆ себѣ̀ помога́хꙋ и҆ почи́ша ѿ бра́ней: и҆зби́ша бо ѿ ни́хъ пѧтьна́десѧть ты́сѧщъ въ третїйна́десѧть а҆да́ра, и҆ ничто́же расхи́тиша.
17	17
And they rested on the fourteenth of the same month, and kept it as a day of rest with joy and gladness.	И҆ почи́ша въ четвертыйна́десѧть де́нь тогѡ́жде мцⷭ҇а и҆ провожда́хꙋ то́й де́нь оу҆покое́нїѧ съ ра́достїю и҆ весе́лїемъ.

And the Jews in the city Susa assembled also on the fourteenth day and rested; and they kept also the fifteenth with joy and gladness.	І҆ꙋде́є же въ сꙋ́сѣхъ гра́дѣ собра́шасѧ и҆ въ четвертыйна́десѧть почи́ша: проводи́ша же и҆ пѧтыйна́десѧть съ ра́достїю и҆ весе́лїемъ.

On this account then it is that the Jews dispersed in every foreign land keep the fourteenth of Adar as a holy day with joy, sending portions each to his neighbour.	Сегѡ̀ ра́ди і҆ꙋде́є разсѣ́ѧннїи во всѧ́цѣй странѣ̀ внѣ́шней провожда́ютъ четвертыйна́десѧть де́нь а҆да́ра бла́гъ съ весе́лїемъ, посыла́юще ча̑сти кі́йждо бли́жнемꙋ: живꙋ́щїй же въ митропо́лїѧхъ и҆ въ пѧтыйна́десѧть де́нь а҆да́ра весе́лїѧ благі́й провожда́ютъ, посыла́юще ча̑сти бли̑жним.

And Mardochæus wrote these things in a book, and sent them to the Jews, as many as were in the kingdom of Artaxerxes, both them that were near and them that were afar off,	Написа̀ же мардохе́й словеса̀ сїѧ̑ въ кни́гꙋ и҆ посла̀ і҆ꙋде́ѡмъ, є҆ли́цы бѣ́ша въ ца́рствїи а҆ртаѯе́рѯовѣ, бли́з̾ и҆ дале́че сꙋ́щымъ,

to establish these as joyful days, and to keep the fourteenth and fifteenth of Adar;	оу҆ста́вити дни̑ сїѧ̑ бла̑ги, є҆́же провожда́ти четвертыйна́десѧть и҆ пѧтыйна́десѧть де́нь а҆да́ра:
22	22
for on these days the Jews obtained rest from their enemies: and as to the month, which was Adar, in which a change was made for them, from mourning to joy, and from sorrow to a good day, to spend the whole of it in good days of feasting and gladness, sending portions to their friends, and to the poor.	въ си́хъ бо дне́хъ почи́ша і҆ꙋде́є ѿ вра̑гъ свои́хъ: и҆ мцⷭ҇ъ а҆да́ръ, и҆́же ѡ҆брати́сѧ и҆̀мъ ѿ пла́ча въ ра́дость и҆ ѿ болѣ́зни во благі́й де́нь, провожда́ти ве́сь во благи́хъ дне́хъ ра́дости и҆ весе́лїѧ, посыла́юще ча̑сти ко дрꙋгѡ́мъ и҆ ни́щымъ.

And the Jews consented to this accordingly as Mardochæus wrote to them,	И҆ прїѧ́ша і҆ꙋде́є, ꙗ҆́коже написа̀ и҆̀мъ мардохе́й:
24	24
shewing how Aman the son of Amadathes the Macedonian fought against them, how he made a decree and cast lots to destroy them utterly;	ка́кѡ а҆ма́нъ а҆мадаѳꙋ́евъ македѡ́нѧнинъ ра́товаше і҆ꙋдеєвъ, и҆ ка́кѡ и҆знесѐ сꙋ́дъ и҆ жре́бїй, є҆́же погꙋби́ти и҆̀хъ,
25	25
also how he went in to the king, telling him to hang Mardochæus: but all the calamities he tried to bring upon the Jews came upon himself, and he was hanged, and his children.	и҆ ꙗ҆́кѡ вни́де ко царю̀, глаго́лѧ, да повѣ́ситъ мардохе́а: є҆ли̑ка нача̀ наводи́ти на і҆ꙋдє́и ѕла́ѧ, на него̀ бы́ша, и҆ повѣ́шенъ бы́сть са́мъ и҆ ча̑да є҆гѡ̀.
26	26
Therefore these days were called Phruræ, because of the lots; (for in their language they are called Phruræ;) because of the words of this letter, and because of all they suffered on this account, and all that happened to them.	Сегѡ̀ ра́ди нареко́шасѧ дні́е сі́и фꙋрі́мъ ра́ди жрє́бїй, занѐ дїале́ктомъ и҆́хъ жрє́бїи нарица́ютсѧ фꙋрі́мъ, ра́ди слове́съ є҆пїсто́лїи сеѧ̀, и҆ є҆ли̑ка пострада́ша си́хъ ра́ди, и҆ є҆ли̑ка и҆̀мъ приключи́шасѧ.

And Mardochæus established it, and the Jews took upon themselves, and upon their seed, and upon those that were joined to them to observe it, neither would they on any account behave differently: but these days were to be a memorial kept in every generation, and city, and family, and province.	Оу҆ста́ви оу҆́бѡ, и҆ та́кѡ прїѧ́ша і҆ꙋде́є на себѐ и҆ на сѣ́мѧ своѐ и҆ на ириложи́вшихсѧ къ ни̑мъ, нижѐ и҆на́че да оу҆потреблѧ́ютъ: дні́е же сі́и па́мѧти соверша́еми по ро́дꙋ и҆ ро́дꙋ, и҆ гра́дꙋ и҆ ѻ҆те́чествꙋ и҆ странѣ̀.

And these days of the Phruræ, said they, shall be kept for ever, and their memorial shall not fail in any generation.	Дні́е же сі́и фꙋрі́мъ да провожда́ютъ во всѧ́кое лѣ́то, и҆ па́мѧть да не ѡ҆скꙋдѣ́етъ ѿ родѡ́бъ.

And queen Esther, the daughter of Aminadab, and Mardochæus the Jew, wrote all that they had done, and the confirmation of the letter of Phruræ.	И҆ написа̀ є҆сѳи́рь царица дщѝ а҆мїнада́влѧ и҆ мардохе́й і҆ꙋде́анинъ, є҆ли̑ка сотвори́ша во оу҆твержде́нїе є҆пїсто́лїи ѡ҆ дне́хъ фꙋрі́мъ.
31	31
And Mardochæus and Esther the queen appointed a fast for themselves privately, even at that time also having formed their plan against their own health.	И҆ є҆сѳи́рь сло́во поста́ви во вѣ́ки, и҆ напи́сано бы́сть въ па́мѧть.

And Esther established it by a command for ever, and it was written for a memorial.
Chapter 10	Глава́ і҃

1	1
And the king levied a tax upon his kingdom both by land and sea.	Написа́ же ца́рь по всемꙋ̀ ца́рствїю своемꙋ̀, є҆́же на землѝ и҆ на мо́ри,
2	2
And as for his strength and valour, and the wealth and glory of his kingdom, behold, they are written in the book of the Persians and Medes, for a memorial.	и҆ си́лꙋ свою̀, и҆ мꙋ́жествєннаѧ и҆справлє́нїѧ, бога́тство же и҆ сла́вꙋ ца́рствїѧ своегѡ̀: сѐ, пи̑сана сꙋ́ть въ кни́зѣ царе́й пе́рсскихъ и҆ ми́дскихъ, на па́мѧть.

And Mardochæus was viceroy to king Artaxerxes, and was a great man in the kingdom, and honoured by the Jews, and passed his life beloved of all his nation.	Мардохе́й бо вторы́й бѣ̀ по царѝ а҆ртаѯе́рѯѣ, и҆ вели́къ бѣ̀ во ца́рствїи и҆ просла́вленъ ѿ і҆ꙋдє́й и҆ люби́мь, повѣ́даше содѣ̑ѧннаѧ всемꙋ̀ ꙗ҆зы́кꙋ своемꙋ̀. И҆ речѐ мардохе́й: ѿ бг҃а бы́ша сїѧ̑: помѧнꙋ́хъ бо ѡ҆ со́нїи, є҆́же ви́дѣхъ ѡ҆ словесѣ́хъ си́хъ, ниже́ бо преминꙋ̀ ѿ си́хъ сло́во: ма́лый и҆сто́чникъ, и҆́же бы́сть рѣка̀, и҆ бѣ̀ свѣ́тъ, и҆ со́лнце, и҆ вода̀ мно́га. Є҆сѳи́рь є҆́сть рѣка̀, ю҆́же поѧ̀ ца́рь и҆ сотворѝ цари́цꙋ: два́ же ѕмі̑а, а҆́зъ є҆́смь и҆ а҆ма́нъ: ꙗ҆зы́цы же (сꙋ́ть), и҆̀же собра́шасѧ и҆стреби́ти и҆́мѧ і҆ꙋде́ѡвъ: ꙗ҆зы́къ же мо́й се́й є҆́сть і҆и҃ль, вопи́вшїй ко бг҃ꙋ, и҆ спасо́шасѧ: и҆ сп҃сѐ гдⷭ҇ь лю́ди своѧ̑ и҆ и҆зба́ви на́съ гдⷭ҇ь ѿ всѣ́хъ ѕѡ́лъ си́хъ: и҆ сотворѝ бг҃ъ зна́мєнїѧ и҆ чꙋдеса̀ вє́лїѧ, ꙗ҆̀же не бы́ша во ꙗ҆зы́цѣхъ. Сегѡ̀ ра́ди сотворѝ два̀ жрє́бїѧ, є҆ди́нъ лю́демъ бж҃їимъ и҆ є҆ди́нъ всѣ̑мъ ꙗ҆зы́кѡмъ: и҆ и҆зыдо́ста два̀ жрє́бїѧ сїѧ̑ въ ча́съ и҆ вре́мѧ и҆ въ де́нь сꙋда̀ пред̾ бг҃омъ во всѣ́хъ ꙗ҆зы́цѣхъ: и҆ помѧнꙋ̀ гдⷭ҇ь бг҃ъ лю́ди своѧ̑ и҆ ѡ҆правда̀ достоѧ́нїе своѐ: и҆ бꙋ́дꙋтъ и҆̀мъ дні́е сі́и (пра́здничнїи) въ мцⷭ҇ъ а҆да́ръ, въ четвертыйна́десѧть и҆ пѧтыйна́десѧть де́нь мцⷭ҇а тогѡ́жде, съ собо́ромъ и҆ ра́достїю и҆ съ весе́лїемъ пред̾ бг҃омъ, въ ро́дъ во вѣ́ки въ лю́дехъ свои́хъ і҆и҃ли. Въ лѣ́то четве́ртое ца́рствїѧ птоломе́ева и҆ клеопа́тры, внесѐ досїѳе́й, и҆́же глаго́лашесѧ бы́ти свѧще́нникъ и҆ леѵі́тъ, и҆ птоломе́й сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, предлежа́щꙋю є҆пїсто́лїю ѡ҆ (дне́хъ) фꙋрі́мъ, ю҆́же ска́зовахꙋ, ꙗ҆́кѡ и҆столкова̀ лѷсїма́хъ сы́нъ птоломе́евъ, живы́й во і҆ерⷭ҇ли́мѣ.

And Mardochæus said, These things have been done of God.
3b
For I remember the dream which I had concerning these matters: for not one particular of them has failed.
3c
There was the little fountain, which became a river, and there was light, and the sun, and much water. The river is Esther, whom the king married, and made queen.
3d
And the two serpents are I and Aman.
3e
And the nations are those nations that combined to destroy the name of the Jews.
3f
But as for my nation, this is Israel, even they that cried to God, and were delivered: for the Lord delivered his people, and the Lord rescued us out of all these calamities; and God wrought such signs and great wonders as have not been done among the nations.
3g
Therefore did he ordain two lots, one for the people of God, and one for all the other nations.
3h
And these two lots came for an appointed season, and for a day of judgment, before God, and for all the nations.
3i
And God remembered his people, and vindicated his inheritance.
3k
And they shall observe these days, in the month Adar, on the fourteenth and on the fifteenth day of the month, with an assembly, and joy and gladness before God, throughout the generations for ever among his people Israel.

In the fourth year of the reign of Ptolemy and Cleopatra, Dositheus, who said that he was a priest and a Levite, and Ptolemy his son, brought in the published letter of Phruræ, which they said existed, and which Lysimachus the son of Ptolemy, who was in Jerusalem, had interpreted.
