Chapter 1
1
1
Παῦλος ἀπόστολος Ἰησοῦ χριστοῦ κατ’ ἐπιταγὴν θεοῦ σωτῆρος ἡμῶν, καὶ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ χριστοῦ τῆς ἐλπίδος ἡμῶν, Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ according to the commandment of God our Savior, and the Lord Jesus Christ our hope;
2
2
Τιμοθέῳ γνησίῳ τέκνῳ ἐν πίστει· χάρις, ἔλεος, εἰρήνη ἀπὸ θεοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν καὶ χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν. unto Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, peace, from God our Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3
3
Καθὼς παρεκάλεσά σε προσμεῖναι ἐν Ἐφέσῳ, πορευόμενος εἰς Μακεδονίαν, ἵνα παραγγείλῃς τισὶν μὴ ἑτεροδιδασκαλεῖν, As I exhorted thee to tarry at Ephesus, when I was going into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge certain men not to teach a different doctrine,
4
4
μηδὲ προσέχειν μύθοις καὶ γενεαλογίαις ἀπεράντοις, αἵτινες ζητήσεις παρέχουσιν μᾶλλον ἢ οἰκονομίαν θεοῦ τὴν ἐν πίστει. neither to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questionings, rather than a dispensation of God which is in faith; so do I now.
5
5
Τὸ δὲ τέλος τῆς παραγγελίας ἐστὶν ἀγάπη ἐκ καθαρᾶς καρδίας καὶ συνειδήσεως ἀγαθῆς καὶ πίστεως ἀνυποκρίτου· But the end of the charge is love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and faith unfeigned:
6
6
ὧν τινὲς ἀστοχήσαντες ἐξετράπησαν εἰς ματαιολογίαν, from which things some having swerved have turned aside unto vain talking;
7
7
θέλοντες εἶναι νομοδιδάσκαλοι, μὴ νοοῦντες μήτε ἃ λέγουσιν, μήτε περὶ τίνων διαβεβαιοῦνται. desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say, nor whereof they confidently affirm.
8
8
Οἴδαμεν δὲ ὅτι καλὸς ὁ νόμος, ἐάν τις αὐτῷ νομίμως χρῆται, But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully,
9
9
εἰδὼς τοῦτο, ὅτι δικαίῳ νόμος οὐ κεῖται, ἀνόμοις δὲ καὶ ἀνυποτάκτοις, ἀσεβέσιν καὶ ἁμαρτωλοῖς, ἀνοσίοις καὶ βεβήλοις, πατρολῴαις καὶ μητρολῴαις, ἀνδροφόνοις, as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and unruly, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
10
10
πόρνοις, ἀρσενοκοίταις, ἀνδραποδισταῖς, ψεύσταις, ἐπιόρκοις, καὶ εἴ τι ἕτερον τῇ ὑγιαινούσῃ διδασκαλίᾳ ἀντίκειται, for fornicators, for abusers of themselves with men, for menstealers, for liars, for false swearers, and if there be any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine;
11
11
κατὰ τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τῆς δόξης τοῦ μακαρίου θεοῦ, ὃ ἐπιστεύθην ἐγώ. according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
12
12
Καὶ χάριν ἔχω τῷ ἐνδυναμώσαντί με χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ τῷ κυρίῳ ἡμῶν, ὅτι πιστόν με ἡγήσατο, θέμενος εἰς διακονίαν, And I thank him that enabled me, even Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he counted me faithful, appointing me to his service;
13
13
τὸν πρότερον ὄντα βλάσφημον καὶ διώκτην καὶ ὑβριστήν· ἀλλὰ ἠλεήθην, ὅτι ἀγνοῶν ἐποίησα ἐν ἀπιστίᾳ· though I was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: howbeit I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief;
14
14
ὑπερεπλεόνασεν δὲ ἡ χάρις τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν μετὰ πίστεως καὶ ἀγάπης τῆς ἐν χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ. and the grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
15
15
Πιστὸς ὁ λόγος καὶ πάσης ἀποδοχῆς ἄξιος, ὅτι χριστὸς Ἰησοῦς ἦλθεν εἰς τὸν κόσμον ἁμαρτωλοὺς σῶσαι, ὧν πρῶτός εἰμι ἐγώ· Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief:
16
16
ἀλλὰ διὰ τοῦτο ἠλεήθην, ἵνα ἐν ἐμοὶ πρώτῳ ἐνδείξηται Ἰησοῦς χριστὸς τὴν πᾶσαν μακροθυμίαν, πρὸς ὑποτύπωσιν τῶν μελλόντων πιστεύειν ἐπ’ αὐτῷ εἰς ζωὴν αἰώνιον. howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me as chief might Jesus Christ show forth all his long-suffering, for an example of them that should thereafter believe on him unto eternal life.
17
17
Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
18
18
Ταύτην τὴν παραγγελίαν παρατίθεμαί σοι, τέκνον Τιμόθεε, κατὰ τὰς προαγούσας ἐπὶ σὲ προφητείας, ἵνα στρατεύῃ ἐν αὐταῖς τὴν καλὴν στρατείαν, This charge I commit unto thee, my child Timothy, according to the prophecies which led the way to thee, that by them thou mayest war the good warfare;
19
19
ἔχων πίστιν καὶ ἀγαθὴν συνείδησιν, ἥν τινες ἀπωσάμενοι περὶ τὴν πίστιν ἐναυάγησαν· holding faith and a good conscience; which some having thrust from them made shipwreck concerning the faith:
20
20
ὧν ἐστὶν Ὑμέναιος καὶ Ἀλέξανδρος, οὓς παρέδωκα τῷ Σατανᾷ, ἵνα παιδευθῶσιν μὴ βλασφημεῖν. of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I delivered unto Satan, that they might be taught not to blaspheme.
Chapter 2
1
1
Παρακαλῶ οὖν πρῶτον πάντων ποιεῖσθαι δεήσεις, προσευχάς, ἐντεύξεις, εὐχαριστίας, ὑπὲρ πάντων ἀνθρώπων· I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men;
2
2
ὑπὲρ βασιλέων καὶ πάντων τῶν ἐν ὑπεροχῇ ὄντων, ἵνα ἤρεμον καὶ ἡσύχιον βίον διάγωμεν ἐν πάσῃ εὐσεβείᾳ καὶ σεμνότητι. for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity.
3
3
Τοῦτο γὰρ καλὸν καὶ ἀπόδεκτον ἐνώπιον τοῦ σωτῆρος ἡμῶν θεοῦ, For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior;
4
4
ὃς πάντας ἀνθρώπους θέλει σωθῆναι καὶ εἰς ἐπίγνωσιν ἀληθείας ἐλθεῖν. who would have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth.
5
5
Εἷς γὰρ θεός, εἷς καὶ μεσίτης θεοῦ καὶ ἀνθρώπων, ἄνθρωπος χριστὸς Ἰησοῦς, For there is one God, one mediator also between God and men, himself man, Christ Jesus,
6
6
ὁ δοὺς ἑαυτὸν ἀντίλυτρον ὑπὲρ πάντων, τὸ μαρτύριον καιροῖς ἰδίοις, who gave himself a ransom for all; the testimony to be borne in its own times;
7
7
εἰς ὃ ἐτέθην ἐγὼ κῆρυξ καὶ ἀπόστολος· ἀλήθειαν λέγω ἐν χριστῷ, οὐ ψεύδομαι· διδάσκαλος ἐθνῶν ἐν πίστει καὶ ἀληθείᾳ. whereunto I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I speak the truth in Christ, I lie not), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
8
8
I desire therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and disputing.
9
9
Ὡσαύτως καὶ τὰς γυναῖκας ἐν καταστολῇ κοσμίῳ, μετὰ αἰδοῦς καὶ σωφροσύνης, κοσμεῖν ἑαυτάς, μὴ ἐν πλέγμασιν, ἢ χρυσῷ, ἢ μαργαρίταις, ἢ ἱματισμῷ πολυτελεῖ, In like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly raiment;
10
10
ἀλλ’ ὃ πρέπει γυναιξὶν ἐπαγγελλομέναις θεοσέβειαν, δι’ ἔργων ἀγαθῶν. but (which becometh women professing godliness) through good works.
11
11
Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection.
12
12
But I permit not a woman to teach, nor to have dominion over a man, but to be in quietness.
13
13
Ἀδὰμ γὰρ πρῶτος ἐπλάσθη, εἶτα Εὔα· For Adam was first formed, then Eve;
14
14
καὶ Ἀδὰμ οὐκ ἠπατήθη, ἡ δὲ γυνὴ ἀπατηθεῖσα ἐν παραβάσει γέγονεν· and Adam was not beguiled, but the woman being beguiled hath fallen into transgression:
15
15
σωθήσεται δὲ διὰ τῆς τεκνογονίας, ἐὰν μείνωσιν ἐν πίστει καὶ ἀγάπῃ καὶ ἁγιασμῷ μετὰ σωφροσύνης. but she shall be saved through her childbearing, if they continue in faith and love and sanctification with sobriety.
Chapter 3
1
1
Faithful is the saying, If a man seeketh the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2
2
Δεῖ οὖν τὸν ἐπίσκοπον ἀνεπίληπτον εἶναι, μιᾶς γυναικὸς ἄνδρα, νηφάλεον, σώφρονα, κόσμιον, φιλόξενον, διδακτικόν· The bishop therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, orderly, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3
3
μὴ πάροινον, μὴ πλήκτην, μὴ αἰσχροκερδῆ, ἀλλ’ ἐπιεικῆ, ἄμαχον, ἀφιλάργυρον· not given to wine, no brawler, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but gentle, not contentious, no lover of money;
4
4
τοῦ ἰδίου οἴκου καλῶς προϊστάμενον, τέκνα ἔχοντα ἐν ὑποταγῇ μετὰ πάσης σεμνότητος. one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
5
5
Εἰ δέ τις τοῦ ἰδίου οἴκου προστῆναι οὐκ οἶδεν, πῶς ἐκκλησίας θεοῦ ἐπιμελήσεται; (but if a man knoweth not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
6
6
Μὴ νεόφυτον, ἵνα μὴ τυφωθεὶς εἰς κρίμα ἐμπέσῃ τοῦ διαβόλου. not a novice, lest being puffed up he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
7
7
Moreover he must have good testimony from them that are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
8
8
Διακόνους ὡσαύτως σεμνούς, μὴ διλόγους, μὴ οἴνῳ πολλῷ προσέχοντας, μὴ αἰσχροκερδεῖς, Deacons in like manner must be grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
9
9
ἔχοντας τὸ μυστήριον τῆς πίστεως ἐν καθαρᾷ συνειδήσει. holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
10
10
And let these also first be proved; then let them serve as deacons, if they be blameless.
11
11
Women in like manner must be grave, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.
12
12
Let deacons be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
13
13
For they that have served well as deacons gain to themselves a good standing, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
14
14
Ταῦτά σοι γράφω, ἐλπίζων ἐλθεῖν πρός σε τάχιον· These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly;
15
15
ἐὰν δὲ βραδύνω, ἵνα εἰδῇς πῶς δεῖ ἐν οἴκῳ θεοῦ ἀναστρέφεσθαι, ἥτις ἐστὶν ἐκκλησία θεοῦ ζῶντος, στύλος καὶ ἑδραίωμα τῆς ἀληθείας. but if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how men ought to behave themselves in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
16
16
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness; God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the spirit, Seen of angels, Preached among the nations, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.
Chapter 4
1
1
Τὸ δὲ πνεῦμα ῥητῶς λέγει, ὅτι ἐν ὑστέροις καιροῖς ἀποστήσονταί τινες τῆς πίστεως, προσέχοντες πνεύμασιν πλάνοις καὶ διδασκαλίαις δαιμονίων, But the Spirit saith expressly, that in later times some shall fall away from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons,
2
2
ἐν ὑποκρίσει ψευδολόγων, κεκαυτηριασμένων τὴν ἰδίαν συνείδησιν, through the hypocrisy of men that speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron;
3
3
κωλυόντων γαμεῖν, ἀπέχεσθαι βρωμάτων, ἃ ὁ θεὸς ἔκτισεν εἰς μετάληψιν μετὰ εὐχαριστίας τοῖς πιστοῖς καὶ ἐπεγνωκόσιν τὴν ἀλήθειαν. forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by them that believe and know the truth.
4
4
Ὅτι πᾶν κτίσμα θεοῦ καλόν, καὶ οὐδὲν ἀπόβλητον, μετὰ εὐχαριστίας λαμβανόμενον· For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5
5
ἁγιάζεται γὰρ διὰ λόγου θεοῦ καὶ ἐντεύξεως. for it is sanctified through the word of God and prayer.
6
6
If thou put the brethren in mind of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of the faith, and of the good doctrine which thou hast followed until now:
7
7
Γύμναζε δὲ σεαυτὸν πρὸς εὐσέβειαν· but refuse profane and old wives’ fables. And exercise thyself unto godliness:
8
8
ἡ γὰρ σωματικὴ γυμνασία πρὸς ὀλίγον ἐστὶν ὠφέλιμος· ἡ δὲ εὐσέβεια πρὸς πάντα ὠφέλιμός ἐστιν, ἐπαγγελίαν ἔχουσα ζωῆς τῆς νῦν καὶ τῆς μελλούσης. for bodily exercise is profitable for a little; but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life which now is, and of that which is to come.
9
9
Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation.
10
10
For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of them that believe.
11
11
These things command and teach.
12
12
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example to them that believe, in word, in manner of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
13
13
Till I come, give heed to reading, to exhortation, to teaching.
14
14
Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
15
15
Be diligent in these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy progress may be manifest unto all.
16
16
Take heed to thyself, and to thy teaching. Continue in these things; for in doing this thou shalt save both thyself and them that hear thee.
Chapter 5
1
1
Πρεσβυτέρῳ μὴ ἐπιπλήξῃς, ἀλλὰ παρακάλει ὡς πατέρα· νεωτέρους, ὡς ἀδελφούς· Rebuke not an elder, but exhort him as a father; the younger men as brethren:
2
2
πρεσβυτέρας, ὡς μητέρας· νεωτέρας, ὡς ἀδελφάς, ἐν πάσῃ ἁγνείᾳ. the elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, in all purity.
3
3
Honor widows that are widows indeed.
4
4
But if any widow hath children or grandchildren, let them learn first to show piety toward their own family, and to requite their parents: for this is acceptable in the sight of God.
5
5
Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, hath her hope set on God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.
6
6
But she that giveth herself to pleasure is dead while she liveth.
7
7
These things also command, that they may be without reproach.
8
8
But if any provideth not for his own, and especially for those of his own household, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever.
9
9
Χήρα καταλεγέσθω μὴ ἔλαττον ἐτῶν ἑξήκοντα, γεγονυῖα ἑνὸς ἀνδρὸς γυνή, Let none be enrolled as a widow under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,
10
10
ἐν ἔργοις καλοῖς μαρτυρουμένη, εἰ ἐτεκνοτρόφησεν, εἰ ἐξενοδόχησεν, εἰ ἁγίων πόδας ἔνιψεν, εἰ θλιβομένοις ἐπήρκεσεν, εἰ παντὶ ἔργῳ ἀγαθῷ ἐπηκολούθησεν. well reported of for good works; if she hath brought up children, if she hath used hospitality to strangers, if she hath washed the saints’ feet, if she hath relieved the afflicted, if she hath diligently followed every good work.
11
11
Νεωτέρας δὲ χήρας παραιτοῦ· ὅταν γὰρ καταστρηνιάσωσιν τοῦ χριστοῦ, γαμεῖν θέλουσιν, But younger widows refuse: for when they have waxed wanton against Christ, they desire to marry;
12
12
ἔχουσαι κρίμα, ὅτι τὴν πρώτην πίστιν ἠθέτησαν. having condemnation, because they have rejected their first pledge.
13
13
And withal they learn also to be idle, going about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
14
14
I desire therefore that the younger widows marry, bear children, rule the household, give no occasion to the adversary for reviling:
15
15
Ἤδη γάρ τινες ἐξετράπησαν ὀπίσω τοῦ Σατανᾶ. for already some are turned aside after Satan.
16
16
If any believing man or believing woman hath widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be burdened; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.
17
17
Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and in teaching.
18
18
For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the grain. And, The laborer is worthy of his hire.
19
19
Against an elder receive not an accusation, except at the mouth of two or three witnesses.
20
20
Them that sin reprove in the sight of all, that the rest also may be in fear.
21
21
I charge thee in the sight of God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing by partiality.
22
22
Lay hands hastily on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.
23
23
Be no longer a drinker of water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.
24
24
Some men’s sins are evident, going before unto judgment; and some men also they follow after.
25
25
In like manner also the good works of some are evident; and such as are otherwise cannot be hidden.

Let as many as are servants under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name of God and the doctrine be not blasphemed.
2
2
And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but let them serve them the rather, because they that partake of the benefit are believing and beloved. These things teach and exhort.
3
3
Εἴ τις ἑτεροδιδασκαλεῖ, καὶ μὴ προσέρχεται ὑγιαίνουσιν λόγοις, τοῖς τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ χριστοῦ, καὶ τῇ κατ’ εὐσέβειαν διδασκαλίᾳ, If any man teacheth a different doctrine, and consenteth not to sound words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
4
4
τετύφωται, μηδὲν ἐπιστάμενος, ἀλλὰ νοσῶν περὶ ζητήσεις καὶ λογομαχίας, ἐξ ὧν γίνεται φθόνος, ἔρις, βλασφημίαι, ὑπόνοιαι πονηραί, he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but doting about questionings and disputes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
5
5
Ἀφίστασο ἀπὸ τῶν τοιούτων. constant friction of men corrupted in mind and bereft of the truth, supposing that godliness is a way of gain: from such withdraw thyself.
6
6
Ἔστιν δὲ πορισμὸς μέγας ἡ εὐσέβεια μετὰ αὐταρκείας· But godliness with contentment is great gain:
7
7
οὐδὲν γὰρ εἰσηνέγκαμεν εἰς τὸν κόσμον, δῆλον ὅτι οὐδὲ ἐξενεγκεῖν τι δυνάμεθα· for we brought nothing into the world: it is evident that neither can we carry anything out;
8
8
ἔχοντες δὲ διατροφὰς καὶ σκεπάσματα τούτοις ἀρκεσθησόμεθα. but having food and covering we shall be therewith content.
9
9
But they that are minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition.
10
10
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil: which some reaching after have been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
11
11
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
12
12
Fight the good fight of the faith, lay hold on the life eternal, whereunto thou wast called, and didst confess the good confession in the sight of many witnesses.
13
13
Παραγγέλλω σοι ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ ζῳοποιοῦντος τὰ πάντα, καὶ χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ τοῦ μαρτυρήσαντος ἐπὶ Ποντίου Πιλάτου τὴν καλὴν ὁμολογίαν, I charge thee in the sight of God, who giveth life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed the good confession;
14
14
τηρῆσαί σε τὴν ἐντολὴν ἄσπιλον, ἀνεπίληπτον, μέχρι τῆς ἐπιφανείας τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ χριστοῦ, that thou keep the commandment, without spot, without reproach, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:
15
15
ἣν καιροῖς ἰδίοις δείξει ὁ μακάριος καὶ μόνος δυνάστης, ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν βασιλευόντων, καὶ κύριος τῶν κυριευόντων, which in its own times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;
16
16
Ἀμήν. who only hath immortality, dwelling in light unapproachable; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power eternal. Amen.
17
17
Τοῖς πλουσίοις ἐν τῷ νῦν αἰῶνι παράγγελλε, μὴ ὑψηλοφρονεῖν, μηδὲ ἠλπικέναι ἐπὶ πλούτου ἀδηλότητι, ἀλλ’ ἐν τῷ θεῷ τῷ ζῶντι, τῷ παρέχοντι ἡμῖν πάντα πλουσίως εἰς ἀπόλαυσιν· Charge them that are rich in this present world, that they be not high-minded, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
18
18
ἀγαθοεργεῖν, πλουτεῖν ἐν ἔργοις καλοῖς, εὐμεταδότους εἶναι, κοινωνικούς, that they do good, that they be rich in good works, that they be ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
19
19
ἀποθησαυρίζοντας ἑαυτοῖς θεμέλιον καλὸν εἰς τὸ μέλλον, ἵνα ἐπιλάβωνται τῆς αἰωνίου ζωῆς. laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
20
20
Ὦ Τιμόθεε, τὴν παραθήκην φύλαξον, ἐκτρεπόμενος τὰς βεβήλους κενοφωνίας καὶ ἀντιθέσεις τῆς ψευδωνύμου γνώσεως· O Timothy, guard that which is committed unto thee, turning away from the profane babblings and oppositions of the knowledge which is falsely so called;
21
21
Ἀμήν. which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.
