И# возвэщeио бhсть nлофeрну вождоначaлнику си1лы ґссyрскіz, ћкw сhнове ї}лєвы ўгот0вашасz на брaнь, и3 прох0ды г0рніz заключи1ша, и3 њгради1ша стэнaми всsкій вeрхъ горы2 выс0кіz, и3 положи1ша на полsхъ преткновє1ніz. Then was it declared to Holofernes, the chief captain of the army of Assur, that the children of Israel had prepared for war, and had shut up the passages of the hill country, and had fortified all the tops of the high hills, and had laid impediments in the champaign countries:
2
2
И# разгнёвасz ћростію ѕэлw2, и3 созвA всёхъ начaлникwвъ мwaвлихъ и3 воев0дъ сынHвъ ґммHнихъ и3 всёхъ влaстелей пом0ріz, wherewith he was very angry, and called all the princes of Moab, and the captains of Ammon, and all the governors of the sea coast,
3
3
и3 речe и5мъ: возвэсти1те u5бо ми2, сhнове хана†ни, кто2 лю1діе сjи живyщіи въ г0рней, и3 каковы2, въ ни1хже живyтъ, грaди, и3 мн0жество си1лы и4хъ, и3 въ чeмъ держaва и4хъ и3 крёпость и4хъ, и3 кто2 постaвленъ над8 ни1ми цaрь в0ждь в0инства и4хъ; and he said unto them, Tell me now, ye sons of Chanaan, who this people is, that dwelleth in the hill country, and what are the cities that they inhabit, and what is the multitude of their army, and wherein is their power and strength, and what king is set over them, or captain of their army;
4
4
и3 чесw2 рaди сопроти1вишасz, є4же не и3зhти во срётеніе мнЁ, пaче всёхъ живyщихъ на зaпадэхъ; and why have they determined not to come and meet me, more than all the inhabitants of the west?
5
5
И# речE къ немY ґхіHръ в0ждь всёхъ сынHвъ ґммHнихъ: послyшай ўбо, господи1не м0й, сл0ва t ќстъ рабA твоегw2, и3 возвэщY тебЁ и4стину њ лю1дехъ си1хъ, и5же њбитaютъ въ г0рней сeй бли1з8 тебє2 живyще, и3 не и3зhдетъ л0жь и3з8 ќстъ рабA твоегw2: Then said Achior, the captain of all the sons of Ammon, Let my lord now hear a word from the mouth of thy servant, and I will declare unto thee the truth concerning this people, which dwelleth near thee, and inhabiteth the hill countries: and there shall no lie come out of the mouth of thy servant.
6
6
This people are descended of the Chaldeans:
7
7
и3 всели1шасz пeрвэе въ месопотaміи, понeже не восхотёша послёдовати богHмъ nтцє1въ свои1хъ, и5же бёша въ земли2 халдeйстэй: and they sojourned heretofore in Mesopotamia, because they would not follow the gods of their fathers, which were in the land of Chaldea.
8
8
и3 tврати1шасz t пути2 nтє1цъ свои1хъ и3 поклони1шасz бGу нб7сE, бGу, є3г0же познaша: и3 и3згнaша и5хъ t лицA богHвъ свои1хъ, и3 побэг0ша въ месопотaмію и3 њбитaша тaмw дни6 мнHги: For they left the way of their ancestors, and worshipped the God of heaven, the God whom they knew: so they cast them out from the face of their gods, and they fled into Mesopotamia, and sojourned there many days.
9
9
и3 речE бGъ и4хъ, да и3зhдутъ t пришeлствіz своегw2 и3 да и4дутъ въ зeмлю хаиаaню: и3 всели1шасz тaмw, и3 ўмн0жишасz злaтомъ и3 сребр0мъ и3 скwты2 мн0гими ѕэлw2: Then their God commanded them to depart from the place where they sojourned, and to go into the land of Chanaan: where they dwelt, and were increased with gold and silver, and with very much cattle.
10
10
и3 снид0ша во є3гЂпетъ, покрh бо лицE земли2 ханаaни глaдъ, и3 пришeлствоваша тaмw, д0идеже прекорми1шасz, и3 бhша тaмw во мн0жество мн0го, и3 не бЁ числA р0ду и4хъ: But when a famine covered all the land of Chanaan, they went down into Egypt, and sojourned there, while they were nourished, and became there a great multitude, so that one could not number their nation.
11
11
6: Therefore the king of Egypt rose up against them, and dealt subtilly with them, and brought them low with labouring in brick, and made them slaves.
12
12
и3 возопи1ша къ бGу своемY, и3 порази2 всю2 землю є3гЂпетскую ћзвами, въ ни1хже не бЁ и3зцэлeніе, и3 и3згнaша и5хъ є3гЂптzне t лицA своегw2: Then they cried unto their God, and he smote all the land of Egypt with incurable plagues: so the Egyptians cast them out of their sight.
13
13
And God dried the Red sea before them,
14
14
и3 ведE и5хъ на пyть сіны2 и3 кaдисъ-варни2, и3 и3згнaша всёхъ живyщихъ въ пустhни, and brought them to mount Sina, and Cades-Barne, and cast forth all that dwelt in the wilderness.
15
15
So they dwelt in the land of the Amorites, and they destroyed by their strength all them of Esebon, and passing over Jordan they possessed all the hill country.
16
16
и3 и3згнaша t лицA своегw2 хананeа и3 ферезeа, и3 їевусeа и3 сmхeма и3 всёхъ гергесewвъ, и3 њбитaша въ нeй дни6 мнHги: And they cast forth before them the Chanaanite, the Pherezite, the Jebusite, and the Sychemite, and all the Gergesites, and they dwelt in that country many days.
17
17
And whilst they sinned not before their God, they prospered, because the God that hateth iniquity was with them.
18
18
є3гдa же tступи1ша t пути2, є3г0же завэщA и5мъ, и3стреби1шасz во мн0зэхъ брaнехъ на мн0го ѕэлw2, и3 плэнeни бhша въ зeмлю не свою2, и3 хрaмъ бGа и4хъ бhсть въ попрaніе, и3 грaди и4хъ њдержaни бhша t супост†тъ: But when they departed from the way which he appointed them, they were destroyed in many battles very sore, and were led captives into a land that was not their's, and the temple of their God was cast to the ground, and their cities were taken by the enemies.
19
19
A: But now are they returned to their God, and are come up from the places where they were scattered, and have possessed Jerusalem, where their sanctuary is, and are seated in the hill country; for it was desolate.
20
20
Now therefore, my lord and governor, if there be any error in this people, and they sin against their God, let us consider that this shall be their ruin, and let us go up, and we shall overcome them.
21
21
But if there be no iniquity in their nation, let my lord now pass by, lest their Lord defend them, and their God be for them, and we become a reproach before all the world.
22
22
И# бhстэ ћкw престA ґхіHръ глаг0лz словесA сі‰, и3 возроптaша вси2 лю1діе њбстоsщіи шатeръ и3 предстоsщіи, и3 рёша вельмHжи nлофeрнwвы и3 вси живyщіи въ прим0ріи и3 въ мwaвэ посэщи2 є3го2: And when Achior had finished these sayings, all the people standing round about the tent murmured, and the chief men of Holofernes, and all that dwelt by the sea side, and in Moab, spake that he should kill him.
23
23
For, say they, we will not be afraid of the face of the children of Israel: for, lo, it is a people that have no strength nor power for a strong battle.
24
24
Now therefore, lord Holofernes, we will go up, and they shall be a prey to be devoured of all thine army.
