Chapter 1

1
Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
2
2
є҆́же пре́жде ѡ҆бѣща̀ прⷪ҇рѡ́ки свои́ми въ писа́нїихъ ст҃ы́хъ, which he promised afore through his prophets in the holy scriptures,
3
3
ѡ҆ сн҃ѣ свое́мъ, бы́вшемъ ѿ сѣ́мене дв҃дова по пл҃ти, concerning his Son, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh,
4
4
нарече́ннѣмъ сн҃ѣ бж҃їи въ си́лѣ, по дх҃ꙋ ст҃ы́ни, и҆з̾ воскрⷭ҇нїѧ ѿ ме́ртвыхъ, і҆и҃са хрⷭ҇та̀ гдⷭ҇а на́шегѡ, who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead; even Jesus Christ our Lord,
5
5
и҆́мже прїѧ́хомъ блгⷣть и҆ а҆пⷭ҇лство въ послꙋша́нїе вѣ́ры во всѣ́хъ ꙗ҆зы́цѣхъ, ѡ҆ и҆́мени є҆гѡ̀, through whom we received grace and apostleship, unto obedience of faith among all the nations, for his name’s sake;
6
6
въ ни́хже є҆стѐ и҆ вы̀, зва́ни і҆и҃сꙋ хрⷭ҇тꙋ̀: among whom are ye also, called to be Jesus Christ’s:
7
7
блгⷣть ва́мъ и҆ ми́ръ ѿ бг҃а ѻ҆ц҃а̀ на́шегѡ, и҆ гдⷭ҇а і҆и҃са хрⷭ҇та̀. to all that are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
8
8
First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world.
9
9
свидѣ́тель бо мѝ є҆́сть бг҃ъ, є҆мꙋ́же слꙋжꙋ̀ дꙋ́хомъ мои́мъ во бл҃говѣствова́нїи сн҃а є҆гѡ̀, ꙗ҆́кѡ безпреста́ни па́мѧть ѡ҆ ва́съ творю̀, For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the gospel of his Son, how unceasingly I make mention of you,
10
10
всегда̀ въ моли́твахъ мои́хъ молѧ́сѧ, а҆́ще оу҆́бѡ когда̀ поспѣ́шенъ бꙋ́дꙋ во́лею бж҃їею прїитѝ къ ва́мъ: always in my prayers making request, if by any means now at length I may be prospered by the will of God to come unto you.
11
11
жела́ю бо ви́дѣти ва́съ, да нѣ́кое пода́мъ ва́мъ дарова́нїе дꙋхо́вное, ко оу҆твержде́нїю ва́шемꙋ: For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;
12
12
сїе́ же є҆́сть, соꙋтѣ́шитисѧ въ ва́съ вѣ́рою ѻ҆́бщею, ва́шею же и҆ мое́ю. that is, that I with you may be comforted in you, each of us by the other’s faith, both yours and mine.
13
13
And I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you (and was hindered hitherto), that I might have some fruit in you also, even as in the rest of the Gentiles.
14
14
I am debtor both to Greeks and to Barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.
15
15
So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you also that are in Rome.
16
16
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
17
17
For therein is revealed a righteousness of God from faith unto faith: as it is written, But the righteous shall live by faith.
18
18
(Заⷱ҇ п҃.) Ѿкрыва́етсѧ бо гнѣ́въ бж҃їй съ нб҃сѐ на всѧ́кое нече́стїе и҆ непра́вдꙋ человѣ́кѡвъ, содержа́щихъ и҆́стинꙋ въ непра́вдѣ: For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hinder the truth in unrighteousness;
19
19
занѐ разꙋ́мное бж҃їе [є҆́же возмо́жно разꙋмѣ́ти ѡ҆ бз҃ѣ] ꙗ҆́вѣ є҆́сть въ ни́хъ, бг҃ъ бо ꙗ҆ви́лъ є҆́сть и҆̀мъ: because that which is known of God is manifest in them; for God manifested it unto them.
20
20
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse:
21
21
Зане́же разꙋмѣ́вше бг҃а, не ꙗ҆́кѡ бг҃а просла́виша и҆лѝ благодари́ша, но ѡ҆сꙋети́шасѧ помышлє́нїи сво́ими, и҆ ѡ҆мрачи́сѧ неразꙋ́мное и҆́хъ се́рдце: because that, knowing God, they glorified him not as God, neither gave thanks; but became vain in their reasonings, and their senseless heart was darkened.
22
22
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23
23
и҆ и҆змѣни́ша сла́вꙋ нетлѣ́ннагѡ бг҃а въ подо́бїе ѡ҆́браза тлѣ́нна человѣ́ка и҆ пти́цъ и҆ четверонѡ́гъ и҆ га̑дъ: and changed the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.
24
24
Wherefore God also gave them up in the lusts of their hearts unto uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves:
25
25
и҆̀же премѣни́ша и҆́стинꙋ бж҃їю во лжꙋ̀, и҆ почто́ша и҆ послꙋжи́ша тва́ри па́че творца̀, и҆́же є҆́сть блгⷭ҇ве́нъ во вѣ́ки, а҆ми́нь. for that they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
26
26
For this cause God gave them up unto vile passions: for their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature:
27
27
та́кожде и҆ мꙋ́жїе, ѡ҆ста́вльше є҆сте́ственнꙋю подо́бꙋ же́нска по́ла, разжего́шасѧ по́хотїю свое́ю дрꙋ́гъ на дрꙋ́га, мꙋ́жи на мꙋже́хъ стꙋ́дъ содѣва́юще, и҆ возме́здїе, є҆́же подоба́ше пре́лести и҆́хъ, въ себѣ̀ воспрїе́млюще. and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men working unseemliness, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was due.
28
28
(Заⷱ҇ п҃а҃.) И҆ ꙗ҆́коже не и҆скꙋси́ша и҆мѣ́ти бг҃а въ ра́зꙋмѣ, (сегѡ̀ ра́ди) предадѐ и҆̀хъ бг҃ъ въ неискꙋ́сенъ оу҆́мъ, твори́ти неподѡ́бнаѧ, And even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
29
29
и҆спо́лненыхъ всѧ́кїѧ непра́вды, блꙋже́нїѧ, лꙋка́вства, лихоима́нїѧ, ѕло́бы: и҆спо́лненыхъ за́висти, оу҆бі́йства, рве́нїѧ, льстѝ, ѕлонра́вїѧ: being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30
30
шепотникѝ, клеветникѝ, богомє́рзки, досади́тєли, велича̑вы, гѡ́рды, ѡ҆брѣта́тєли ѕлы́хъ, роди́телємъ непокори̑вы, backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31
31
неразꙋ̑мны, непримири́тєлны, нелюбѡ́вны, неклѧтвохрани́тєлны, неми́лѡстивны. without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32
32
Нѣ́цыи же и҆ ѡ҆правда́нїе бж҃їе разꙋмѣ́вше, ꙗ҆́кѡ такѡва́ѧ творѧ́щїи досто́йни сме́рти сꙋ́ть, не то́чїю са́ми творѧ́тъ, но и҆ соизволѧ́ютъ творѧ́щымъ. who, knowing the ordinance of God, that they that practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also consent with them that practice them.
