Now in the first year of Cyrus king of the Persians, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremias might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of the Persians, and he issued a proclamation through all his kingdom, and that in writing, saying,	У перший рік Кира, царя Перського, на сповнення слова Господнього з уст Єремії, збудив Господь дух Кира, царя Перського, і він повелів оголосити по всьому царству своєму, усно і письмово:

Who is there among you of all his people? for his God shall be with him, and he shall go up to Jerusalem that is in Judea, and let him build the house of the God of Israel: he is the God that is in Jerusalem. And let every Jew that is left go from every place where he sojourns, and the men of his place shall help him with silver, and gold, and goods, and cattle, together with the voluntary offering for the house of God that is in Jerusalem. Then the chiefs of the families of Juda and Benjamin arose, and the priests, and the Levites, all whose spirit the Lord stirred up to go up to build the house of the Lord that is in Jerusalem. And all that were round about strengthened their hands with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, and with cattle, and with presents, besides the voluntary offerings. And some of the chiefs of families, when they went into the house of the Lord that was in Jerusalem, offered willingly for the house of God, to establish it on its prepared place. According to their power they gave into the treasury of the work pure gold sixty-one thousand pieces, and five thousand pounds of silver, and one hundred priests' garments. And the seventh month came on, and the children of Israel were in their cities, and the people assembled as one man at Jerusalem.	Коли настав сьомий місяць, і сини Ізраїлеві вже були в містах, тоді зібрався народ, як одна людина, в Єрусалимі.

Then stood up Jesus the son of Josedec, and his brethren the priests, and Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, and his brethren, and they built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer upon it whole-burnt-offerings, according to the things that were written in the law of Moses the man of God.	І встав Ісус, син Іоседеків, і брати його священики, і Зоровавель, син Салафиїлів, і брати його, і спорудили вони жертовник Богові Ізраїлевому, щоб підносити на ньому всепалення, як написано в законі Мойсея, чоловіка Божого.

And they set up the altar on its place, for there was a terror upon them because of the people of the lands: and the whole-burnt-offering was offered up upon it to the Lord morning and evening. And they gave money to the stone-hewers and carpenters, and meat and drink, and oil, to the Sidonians, and Tyrians, to bring cedar trees from Libanus to the sea of Joppa, according to the grant of Cyrus king of the Persians to them.	І стали видавати срібло каменотесам і теслярам, і їжу і питво й олію сидонянам і тирянам, щоб вони доставляли кедровий ліс з Ливану морем в Яфу, з дозволу їм Кира, царя Перського.

And in the second year of their coming to the house of God in Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, and Jesus the son of Josedec, and the rest of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all who came from the captivity to Jerusalem, and they appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, over the workmen in the house of the Lord.	На другий рік після приходу свого до дому Божого в Єрусалим, у другий місяць Зоровавель, син Салафиїлів, і Ісус, син Іоседеків, та інші брати їхні, священики і левити, й усі, хто прийшов з полону в Єрусалим, поклали початок і поставили левитів від двадцяти років і вище для нагляду за роботами дому Господнього.

And Jesus and his sons and his brethren stood, Cadmiel and his sons the sons of Juda, over them that wrought the works in the house of God: the sons of Enadad, their sons and their brethren the Levites. And they laid a foundation for building the house of the Lord: and the priests in their robes stood with trumpets and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the Lord, according to the order of David king of Israel. And they answered each other with praise and thanksgiving to the Lord, saying, For it is good, for his mercy to Israel endures for ever. And all the people shouted with a loud voice to praise the Lord at the laying the foundation of the house of the Lord. But many of the priests and the Levites, and the elder men, heads of families, who had seen the former house on its foundation, and who saw this house with their eyes, wept with a loud voice: but the multitude shouted with joy to raise a song. Chapter 4	Глава 4

And they that afflicted Juda and Benjamin heard, that the children of the captivity were building a house to the Lord God of Israel.	І почули вороги Іуди і Веніаміна, що ті, хто повернувся з полону, будують храм Господу Богу Ізраїлевому;

And they drew near to Zorobabel, and to the heads of families, and said to them, We will build with you; for as ye do, we seek to serve our God, and we do sacrifice to him from the days of Asaradan king of Assur, who brought us hither.	і прийшли вони до Зоровавеля і до глав поколінь, і сказали їм: будемо і ми будувати з вами, тому що ми, як і ви, прибігаємо до Бога вашого, і Йому приносимо жертви від днів Асардана, царя Сирійського, який перевів нас сюди.

Then Zorobabel, and Jesus and the rest of the heads of the families of Israel said to them, It is not for us and you to build a house to our God, for we ourselves will build together to the Lord our God, as Cyrus the king of the Persians commanded us.	І сказали їм Зоровавель і Ісус та інші глави поколінь ізраїльських: не будувати вам разом з нами дім нашому Богу; ми одні будемо будувати дім Господу, Богу Ізраїлевому, як повелів нам цар Кир, цар Перський.

And the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Juda, and hindered them in building,	І став народ землі тієї ослаблювати руки народу юдейського і перешкоджати йому в будівлі;

and continued hiring persons against them, plotting to frustrate their counsel, all the days of Cyrus king of the Persians, and until the reign of Darius king of the Persians.	і підкуповували проти них радників, щоб зруйнувати намір їхній, в усі дні Кира, царя Перського, і до царювання Дарія, царя Перського.

And in the days of Arthasastha, Tabeel wrote peaceably to Mithradates and to the rest of his fellow-servants: the tribute-gatherer wrote to Arthasastha king of the Persians a writing in the Syrian tongue, and the same interpreted. Thus has judged Reum the chancellor, and Sampsa the scribe, and the rest of our fellow-servants, the Dinæans, the Apharsathachæans, the Tarphalæans, the Apharsæans, the Archyæans, the Babylonians, the Susanachæans, Davæans,	Тоді-то. Be it known to the king, that the Jews who came up from thee to us have come to Jerusalem the rebellious and wicked city, which they are building, and its walls are set in order, and they have established the foundations of it. Now then be it known to the king, that if that city be built up, and its walls completed, thou shalt have no tribute, neither will they pay anything, and this injures kings. And it is not lawful for us to see the dishonour of the king: therefore have we sent and made known the matter to the king;	Тому що ми їмо сіль від палацу царського, і збиток для царя не можемо бачити, тому ми посилаємо донесення цареві:

that examination may be made in thy fathers' book of record; and thou shalt find, and thou shalt know that that city is rebellious, and does harm to kings and countries, and there are in the midst of it from very old time refuges for runaway slaves: therefore this city has been made desolate.	нехай пошукають у пам’ятній книзі батьків твоїх, — і знайдеш у книзі пам’ятній, і дізнаєшся, що місто це — місто заколотне і шкідливе для царів і областей, і що відпадіння бували в ньому здавна, за що місто це і спустошене.

We therefore declare to the king, that, if that city be built, and its walls be set up, thou shalt not have peace.	Тому ми повідомляємо царя, що коли місто це буде добудоване і стіни його дороблені, то після цього не буде в тебе володіння за рікою.

Then the king sent to Reum the chancellor, and Sampsa the scribe, and the rest of their fellow-servants who dwelt in Samaria, and the rest beyond the river, saying, Peace; and he says,	Цар послав відповідь Рехуму раднику і Шимшаю писарю й іншим товаришам їхнім, які живуть у Самарії та в інших містах зарічних: Мир… та інше.

The tribute-gatherer whom ye sent to us, has been called before me.	Лист, який ви надіслали нам, виразно прочитаний переді мною;

And a decree has been made by me, and we have examined, and found that that city of old time exalts itself against kings, and that rebellions and desertions take place within it.	і від мене дано повеління, — і розшукували, і знайшли, що місто це здавна повставало проти царів, і відбувалися в ньому заколоти і заворушення,

And there were powerful kings in Jerusalem, and they ruled over all the country beyond the river, and abundant revenues and tribute were given to them.	і що були в Єрусалимі царі могутні і які володіли всім заріччям, і їм давали данину, податки і мито.

Now therefore make a decree to stop the work of those men, and that city shall no more be built.	Отже, дайте наказ, щоб люди ці перестали працювати, і щоб місто це не будувалося, доки від мене не буде дано повеління.

Then the tribute-gatherer of king Arthasastha read the letter before Reum the chancellor, and Sampsa the scribe, and his fellow-servants: and they went in haste to Jerusalem and through Juda, and caused them to cease with horses and an armed force. And Aggæus the prophet, and Zacharias the son of Addo, prophesied a prophecy to the Jews in Juda and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, even to them.	Але пророк Аггей і пророк Захарія, син Адди, говорили юдеям, які в Юдеї та Єрусалимі, пророчі слова в ім’я Бога Ізраїлевого.

Then rose up Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, and Jesus the son of Josedec, and began to build the house of God that was in Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God assisting them.	Тоді встали Зоровавель, син Салафиїлів, та Ісус, син Іоседеків, і почали будувати дім Божий в Єрусалимі, і з ними пророки Божі, які підкріплювали їх.

At the same time came there upon them Thanthanai, the governor on this side the river, and Satharbuzanai, and their fellow-servants, and spoke thus to them, Who has ordained a decree for you to build this house, and to provide this preparation?	У той час прийшов до них Фафнай, зарічний областеначальник, і Шефар-Бознай і товариші їхні, і так сказали їм: хто дав вам дозвіл будувати дім цей і доробляти стіни ці?

Then they spoke thus to them, What are the names of the men that build this city?	Тоді ми сказали їм імена тих людей, що будують цей дім.

But the eyes of God were upon the captivity of Juda, and they did not cause them to cease till the decree was brought to Darius; and then was sent by the tribute-gatherer concerning this	Але око Бога їхнього було над старійшинами юдейськими, і ті не забороняли їм, доки справу не відправили до Дарія, і доки не прийшло рішення у цій справі.

the copy of a letter, which Thanthanai, the governor of the part on this side the river, and Satharbuzanai, and their fellow-servants the Apharsachæans who were on this side of the river, sent to king Darius.	Ось зміст листа, який послав Фафнай, зарічний областеначальник, і Шефар-Бознай з товаришами своїми — афарсахеями, які за рікою, до царя Дарія.

They sent an account to him, and thus it was written in it: All peace to king Darius.	В донесенні, яке вони послали до нього, ось що написано: Дарієві царю — всякий мир!

Be it known to the king, that we went into the land of Judea, to the house of the great God; and it is building with choice stones, and they are laying timbers in the walls, and that work is prospering, and goes on favourably in their hands.	Нехай буде відомо цареві, що ми ходили в Юдейську область, до дому Бога великого; і будується він з великих каменів, і дерево вкладається в стіни; і робота ця виконується швидко і з успіхом йде в руках їхніх.

Then we asked those elders, and thus we said to them, Who gave you the order to build this house, and to provide this preparation?	Тоді ми запитали у старійшин тих і так сказали їм: хто дав вам дозвіл будувати дім цей і стіни ці доробляти?

And we asked them their names, in order to declare them to thee, so as to write to thee the names of their leading men.	І крім того, ми запитали їх про імена їхні, щоб дати знати тобі й написати імена тих людей, які є головними у них.

And they answered us thus, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we are building the house which had been built many years before this, and a great king of Israel built it, and established it for them.	І вони відповіли нам такими словами: ми раби Бога неба і землі і будуємо дім, який був побудований за багато років раніше цього, — і великий цар у Ізраїля будував його і довершив його.

But after that our fathers provoked the God of heaven, he gave them into the hands of Nabuchodonosor the Chaldean, king of Babylon, and he destroyed this house, and carried the people captive to Babylon.	Коли ж батьки наші прогнівили Бога небесного, Він віддав їх у руку Навуходоносора, царя Вавилонського, халдеянина; і дім цей він зруйнував, і народ переселив у Вавилон.

And in the first year of king Cyrus, Cyrus the king made a decree that this house of God should be built.	Але в перший рік Кира, царя Вавилонського, цар Кир дав дозвіл побудувати цей дім Божий;

And the gold and silver vessels of the house of God, which Nabuchodonosor brought out from the house that was in Jerusalem, and carried them into the temple of the king, them did king Cyrus bring out from the temple of the king, and gave them to Sabanasar the treasurer, who was over the treasure;	та й сосуди дому Божого, золоті і срібні, які Навуходоносор виніс із храму Єрусалимського і відніс у храм Вавилонський, — виніс Кир цар із храму Вавилонського; і віддав їх на ім’я Шешбацару, якого він призначив областеначальником,

and said to him, Take all the vessels, and go, put them in the house that is in Jerusalem in their place.	і сказав йому: візьми ці сосуди, піди і віднеси їх у храм Єрусалимський, і нехай дім Божий будується на своєму місці.

Then that Sabanazar came, and laid the foundations of the house of God in Jerusalem: and from that time even until now it has been building, and has not been finished.	Тоді Шешбацар той прийшов, поклав основи дому Божого в Єрусалимі; і з тих пір до цього часу він будується, і ще не закінчений.

And now, if it seem good to the king, let search be made in the treasure-house of the king at Babylon, that thou mayest know if it be that a decree was made by king Cyrus to build that house of God that was in Jerusalem, and let the king send to us when he has learnt concerning this matter.	Отже, якщо царю благоугодно, нехай пошукають у домі царських скарбів, там у Вавилоні, чи дійсно царем Киром дано дозвіл будувати цей дім Божий в Єрусалимі, і царську волю про це нехай надішлють до нас.
Chapter 6	Глава 6

Then Darius the king made a decree, and caused a search to be made in the record-offices, where the treasure is stored in Babylon.	Тоді цар Дарій дав повеління, і розшукали у Вавилоні в книгосховищі, куди складали скарби.

And there was found in the city, in the palace, a volume, and this was the record written in it.	І знайдений в Екбатані в палаці, який в області Мідії, один сувій, і в ньому написано так: «Для пам’яті:

In the first year of king Cyrus, Cyrus the king made a decree concerning the holy house of God that was in Jerusalem, saying, Let the house be built, and the place where they sacrifice the sacrifices. (Also he appointed its elevation, in height sixty cubits; its breadth was of sixty cubits.)	в перший рік царя Кира, цар Кир дав повеління про дім Божий в Єрусалимі: нехай будується дім на тому місці, де приносять жертви, і нехай будуть покладені міцні основи для нього; висота його в шістдесят ліктів, ширина його в шістдесят ліктів;

And let there be three strong layers of stone, and one layer of timber; and the expense shall be paid out of the house of the king.	рядів з каменів великих три, і ряд з дерева один; витрати ж нехай видаються з царського дому.

And the silver and the gold vessels of the house of God, which Nabuchodonosor carried off from the house that was in Jerusalem, and carried to Babylon, let them even be given, and be carried to the temple that is in Jerusalem, and put in the place where they were set in the house of God.	Та й сосуди дому Божого, золоті і срібні, які Навуходоносор виніс із храму Єрусалимського і відніс у Вавилон, нехай повернуться і підуть у храм Єрусалимський, кожен на своє місце, і будуть розміщені в домі Божому.

Now, ye rulers beyond the river, Satharbuzanai, and their fellow-servants the Apharsachæans, who are on the other side of the river, give these things, keeping far from that place.	Отже, Фафнай, зарічний областеначальник, і Шефар-Бознай, з товаришами вашими афарсахеями, які за рікою, — відійдіть звідти.

Now let alone the work of the house of God: let the rulers of the Jews and the elders of the Jews build that house of God on its place.	Не зупиняйте роботи при цьому домі Божому; нехай юдейський областеначальник і юдейські старійшини будують цей дім Божий на місці його.

Also a decree has been made by me, if haply ye may do somewhat in concert with the elders of the Jews for the building of that house of God: to wit, out of the king's property, even the tributes beyond the river, let there be money to defray the expenses carefully granted to those men, so that they be not hindered.	І від мене дається повеління про те, чим ви повинні сприяти старійшинам тим юдейським у побудові того дому Божого, і саме: з майна царського — із зарічної податі — негайно беріть і давайте тим людям, щоб робота не зупинялася;

And whatever need there may be, ye shall give both the young of bulls and rams, and lambs for whole-burnt-offerings to the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine, oil:—let it be given them according to the word of the priests that are in Jerusalem, day by day whatsoever they shall ask;	і скільки потрібно — чи тельців, чи баранів і агнців, на всепалення Богу небесному, також пшениці, соли, вина й олії, як скажуть священики єрусалимські, нехай буде видано їм кожного дня без затримки,

that they may offer sweet savours to the God of heaven, and that they may pray for the life of the king and his sons.	щоб вони приносили жертву приємну Богу небесному і молилися за життя царя і синів його.

And a decree has been made by me, that every man who shall alter this word, timber shall be pulled down from his house, and let him be lifted up and slain upon it, and his house shall be confiscated.	Мною ж дається повеління, що коли яка людина змінить це рішення, то буде вийнята колода з дому її, і буде піднята вона і прицвяхована до неї, а дім її за те буде перетворений на руїни.

And may the God whose name dwells there, overthrow every king and people who shall stretch out his hand to alter or destroy the house of God which is in Jerusalem. I Darius have made a decree; let it be diligently attended to.	І Бог, Якого ім’я там живе, нехай скине всякого царя і народ, який простяг би руку свою, щоб змінити це на шкоду цьому дому Божому в Єрусалимі. Я, Дарій, дав це повеління; нехай буде воно в точності виконане».

Then Thanthanai the governor on this side beyond the river, Satharbuzanai, and his fellow-servants, according to that which king Darius sent, so they did diligently.	Тоді Фафнай, зарічний областеначальник, Шефар-Бознай і товариші їхні, — як повелів цар Дарій, так у точності і зробили.

And the elders of the Jews and the Levites built, at the prophecy of Aggæus the prophet, and Zacharias the son of Addo: and they built up, and finished it, by the decree of the God of Israel, and by the decree of Cyrus, and Darius, and Arthasastha, kings of the Persians.	І старійшини юдейські будували і процвітали, за пророцтвом Аггея пророка і Захарії, сина Адди. І побудували і закінчили, з волі Бога Ізраїлевого і з волі Кира і Дарія й Артаксеркса, царів перських.

And they finished this house by the third day of the month Adar, which is the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king.	І закінчений дім цей до третього дня місяця Адара, у шостий рік царювання царя Дарія.

And the children of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the children of the captivity, kept the dedication of the house of God with gladness.	І завершили сини Ізраїлеві, священики і левити та інші, які повернулися з полону, освячення цього дому Божого з радістю.

And they offered for the dedication of the house of God a hundred calves, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs, twelve kids of the goats for a sin-offering for all Israel, according to the number of the tribes of Israel.	І принесли при освяченні цього дому Божого: сто волів, двісті баранів, чотириста агнців і дванадцять козлів у жертву за гріх за весь Ізраїль, за числом колін Ізраїлевих.

And they set the priests in their divisions, and the Levites in their separate orders, for the services of God in Jerusalem, according to the writing of the book of Moses.	І поставили священиків за відділеннями їхніми, і левитів за чергами їхніми на службу Божу в Єрусалимі, як приписано в книзі Мойсея.

And the children of the captivity kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month.	І звершили ті, що повернулися з полону, пасху в чотирнадцятий день першого місяця,

For the priests and Levites were purified, all were clean to a man, and they slew the passover for all the children of the captivity, and for their brethren the priests, and for themselves.	тому що очистилися священики і левити, — усі вони, як один, були чисті; і закололи агнців пасхальних для всіх, хто повернувся з полону, для братів своїх священиків і для себе.

And the children of Israel ate the passover, even they that were of the captivity, and every one who separated himself to them from the uncleanness of the nations of the land, to seek the Lord God of Israel.	І їли сини Ізраїлеві, які повернулися з переселення, і всі, що відокремилися до них від нечистоти народів землі, щоб прибігати до Господа Бога Ізраїлевого.

And they kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with gladness, because the Lord made them glad, and he turned the heart of the king of Assyria to them, to strengthen their hands in the works of the house of the God of Israel.	І святкували свято опрісноків сім днів у радості, тому що обрадував їх Господь і навернув до них серце царя Ассирійського, щоб підкріплювати руки їхні при будівництві дому Господа Бога Ізраїлевого.
Chapter 7	Глава 7

Now after these things, in the reign of Arthasastha king of the Persians, came up Esdras the son of Saraias, the son of Azarias, the son of Chelcias,	Після цих подій, у царювання Артаксеркса, царя Перського, Ездра, син Сераї, син Азарії, син Хелкії,

the son of Selum, the son of Sadduc, the son of Achitob,	син Шаллума, син Садока, син Ахитува,

the son of Samarias, the son of Esria, the son of Mareoth,	син Амарії, син Азарії, син Марайофа,

the son of Zaraia, the son of Ozias, the son of Bokki,	син Захарії, син Уззія, син Буккія,

the son of Abisue, the son of Phinees, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the first priest.	син Авишуя, син Финеєса, син Єлеазара, син Аарона первосвященика, —

This Esdras went up out of Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the Lord God of Israel gave: and the king gave him leave, for the hand of the Lord his God was upon him in all things which he sought.	цей Ездра вийшов з Вавилона. Він був книжник, який знався на законі Мойсеєвому, який дав Господь Бог Ізраїлів. І дав йому цар усе за бажанням його, тому що рука Господа Бога його була над ним.

And some of the children of Israel went up, and some of the priests, and of the Levites, and the singers, and the door-keepers, and the Nathinim, to Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Arthasastha the king.	З ним пішли в Єрусалим і деякі з синів Ізраїлевих, і зі священиків і левитів, і співців, і воротарів, і нефинеїв у сьомий рік царя Артаксеркса.

And they came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, this was the seventh year of the king.	І прийшов він в Єрусалим у п’ятий місяць, — у сьомий же рік царя.

For in the first day of the first month he began the going up from Babylon, and in the first day of the fifth month they came to Jerusalem, for the good hand of his God was upon him.	Бо в перший день першого місяця був початок виходу з Вавилона, і в перший день п’ятого місяця він прийшов у Єрусалим, тому що благодійна рука Бога його була над ним,

For Esdras had determined in his heart to seek the law, and to do and teach the ordinances and judgments in Israel.	тому що Ездра построїв серце своє на те, щоб вивчати закон Господній і виконувати його, і навчати в Ізраїлі закону і правди.

And this is the copy of the order which Arthasastha gave to Esdras the priest, the scribe of the book of the words of the commandments of the Lord, and of his ordinances to Israel. Arthasastha, king of kings, to Esdras, the scribe of the law of the Lord God of heaven, Let the order and the answer be accomplished.	Артаксеркс, цар царів, Ездрі священикові, учителеві закону Бога небесного довершеного, та інше.

A decree is made by me, that every one who is willing in my kingdom of the people of Israel, and of the priests and Levites, to go to Jerusalem, be permitted to go with thee.	Від мене дано повеління, щоб у царстві моєму кожен з народу Ізраїлевого і зі священиків його і левитів, який бажає йти в Єрусалим, ішов з тобою.

One has been sent from the king and the seven councillors, to visit Judea and Jerusalem, according to the law of their God that is in thine hand.	Тому що ти посилаєшся від царя і семи радників його, щоб оглянути Юдею та Єрусалим за законом Бога твого, який знаходиться в руці твоїй,

And for the house of the Lord there have been sent silver and gold, which the king and the councillors have freely given to the God of Israel, who dwells in Jerusalem.	і щоб доставити срібло і золото, яке цар і радники його пожертвували Богу Ізраїлевому, Якого оселя в Єрусалимі,

And all the silver and gold, whatsoever thou shalt find in all the land of Babylon, with the freewill-offering of the people, and the priests that offer freely for the house of God which is in Jerusalem.	і все срібло і золото, яке ти збереш по всій області Вавилонській, разом з добровільними дарами від народу і священиків, які пожертвують вони для дому Бога свого, що в Єрусалимі;

And as for every one that arrives there, speedily order him by this letter to bring calves, rams, lambs, and their meat-offerings, and their drink-offerings; and thou shalt offer them on the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.	тому негайно купи на ці гроші волів, баранів, агнців і хлібні приношення до них і узливання для них, і принеси їх на жертовник дому Бога вашого в Єрусалимі.

And whatever it shall seem good to thee and to thy brethren to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, do as it is pleasing to your God.	І що ти і брати твої вважатимете за благо зробити зі срібла і золота, що залишаться, те з волі Бога вашого робіть.

And deliver the vessels that are given thee for the service of the house of God, before God in Jerusalem.	І сосуди, які дано тобі для служб у домі Бога твого, постав перед Богом Єрусалимським.

And as to the rest of the need of the house of thy God, thou shalt give from the king's treasure-houses,	І інше потрібне для дому Бога твого, що ти визнаєш за потрібне, давай з дому царських скарбів.

and from me, whatever it shall seem good to thee to give. I king Arthasastha have made a decree for all the treasuries that are in the country beyond the river, that whatever Esdras the priest and scribe of the God of heaven may ask you, it shall be done speedily,	І від мене, царя Артаксеркса, дається повеління всім хранителям скарбів, що за рікою: все, чого вимагатиме у вас Ездра священик, учитель закону Бога небесного, негайно давайте:

to the amount of a hundred talents of silver, and a hundred measures of wheat, and a hundred baths of wine, and a hundred baths of oil, and salt without reckoning.	срібла до ста талантів, і пшениці до ста ко́рів, і вина до ста ба́тів, і до ста ж батів олії, а соли без означення кількости.

Let whatever is in the decree of the God of heaven, be done: take heed lest any one make an attack on the house of the God of heaven, lest at any time there should be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons.	Все, що повелено Богом небесним, повинно виконуватися старанно для дому Бога небесного; [дивіться, щоб хто не простяг руки на дім Бога небесного,] щоб не було гніву Його на царство, царя і синів його.

Also this has been declared to you, with respect to all the priests, and Levites, the singers, porters, Nathinim and ministers of the house of God, let no tribute be paid to thee; thou shalt not have power to oppress them.	І даємо вам знати, щоб ні на кого зі священиків або левитів, співців, воротарів, нефинеїв і службовців при цьому домі Божому, не накладали ні данини, ні податку, ні мита.

And thou, Esdras, as the wisdom of God is in thy hand, appoint scribes and judges, that they may judge for all the people beyond the river, all that know the law of the Lord thy God; and ye shall make it known to him that knows not.	Ти ж, Ездро, за премудрістю Бога твого, яка в руці твоїй, постав правителів і суддів, щоб вони судили весь народ за рікою, — усіх, хто знає закони Бога твого, а хто не знає, тих учіть.

And whosoever shall not do the law of God, and the law of the king readily, judgment shall be taken upon him, whether for death or for chastisement, or for a fine of his property, or casting into prison.	Хто ж не буде виконувати закон Бога твого і закон царя, над тим негайно нехай чинять суд, чи на смерть, чи на вигнання, чи на грошову пеню, або на ув’язнення у в’язницю.

Blessed be the Lord God of our fathers, who has put it thus into the heart of the king, to glorify the house of the Lord which is in Jerusalem;	Благословенний Господь, Бог батьків наших, Який вклав у серце царя — прикрасити дім Господній, який у Єрусалимі,

and has given me favour in the eyes of the king, and of his councillors, and all the rulers of the king, the exalted ones. And I was strengthened according to the good hand of God upon me, and I gathered chief men of Israel to go up with me.	і схилив на мене милість царя і радників його, і всіх могутніх князів царя! І я підбадьорився, тому що рука Господа Бога мого була наді мною, і зібрав я глав Ізраїля, щоб вони пішли зі мною.

And these are the heads of their families, the leaders that went up with me in the reign of Arthasastha the king of Babylon.	І ось глави поколінь і родовід тих, які вийшли зі мною з Вавилона, у царювання царя Артаксеркса:

Of the sons of Phinees; Gerson: of the sons of Ithamar; Daniel: of the sons of David; Attus.	із синів Финеєса Гирсон; із синів Іфамара Даниїл; із синів Давида Хаттуш;

Of the sons of Sachania, and of the sons of Phoros; Zacharias: and with him a company of a hundred and fifty.	із синів Шеханії, із синів Пароша Захарія, і з ним за списком родовідним сто п’ятдесят людей чоловічої статі;

And of the sons of Asgad; Joanan the son of Accatan, and with him a hundred and ten males.	із синів Азгада Іоханан, син Гаккатана, і з ним сто десять людей чоловічої статі;

And of the sons of Adonicam were the last, and these were their names, Eliphalat, Jeel, and Samæa, and with them sixty males.	із синів Адоникама останні, і ось імена їхні: Елифелет, Ієиєл і Шемаія, і з ними шістдесят людей чоловічої статі;

And of the sons of Baguæ, Uthai, and Zabud, and with him seventy males.	із синів Бигвая, Уфай і Заббуд, і з ними сімдесят людей чоловічої статі.

And I gathered them to the river that comes to Evi, and we encamped there three days: and I reviewed the people and the priests, and found none of the sons of Levi there.	Я зібрав їх біля ріки, що втікає в Агаву, і ми простояли там три дні, і коли я оглянув народ і священиків, то із синів Левія нікого там не знайшов.

And I sent men of understanding to Eleazar, to Ariel, to Semeias, and to Alonam, and to Jarib, and to Elnatham, and to Nathan, and to Zacharias, and to Mesollam, and to Joarim, and to Elnathan.	І послав я покликати Єлиєзера, Ариела, Шемаію, та Елнафана, й Іарива, й Елнафана, і Нафана, і Захарію, і Мешуллама — головних, й Іоярива і Елнафана — вчених;

And I forwarded them to the rulers with the money of the place, and I put words in their mouth to speak to their brethren the Athinim with the money of the place, that they should bring us singers for the house of our God.	і дав їм доручення до Іддо, головного в місцевості Касиф’є, і вклав їм у вуста, що говорити до Іддо і братів його, нефинеїв у місцевості Касиф’є, щоб вони привели до нас служителів для дому Бога нашого.

And they came to us, as the good hand of our God was upon us, even a man of understanding of the sons of Mooli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel, and at the commencement came his sons and his brethren, eighteen. And of the Nathinim, whom David and the princes had appointed for the service of the Levites there were two hundred and twenty Nathinim; all were gathered by their names.	і з нефинеїв, яких дав Давид і князі його на слугування левитам, двісті двадцять нефинеїв; усі вони названі поіменно.

And I proclaimed there a fast, at the river Aüe, that we should humble ourselves before our God, to seek of him a straight way for us, and for our children, and for all our property. For I was ashamed to ask of the king a guard and horsemen to save us from the enemy in the way: for we had spoken to the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all that seek him, for good; but his power and his wrath are upon all that forsake him.	оскільки мені соромно було просити в царя військо і вершників для охорони нашої від ворога на дорозі, бо ми, говорячи з царем, сказали: рука Бога нашого для всіх, що прибігають до Нього, є благодійна, а на всіх, хто залишає Його, — могутність Його і гнів Його!

So we fasted, and asked of our God concerning this; and he hearkened to us.	Отже, ми постились і просили Бога нашого про це, і Він почув нас.

And I gave charge to twelve of the chiefs of the priests, to Saraia, to Asabia, and ten of their brethren with them.	І я відокремив з начальників над священиками дванадцять людей: Шеревію, Хашавію і з ними десять із братів їхніх;

And I weighed to them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of the first-fruits of the house of our God, which the king, and his councillors, and his princes, and all Israel that were found, had dedicated.	і віддав їм за вагою срібло, і золото, і сосуди, — усе, пожертвуване для дому Бога нашого, що пожертвували цар, і радники його, і князі його, і всі ізраїльтяни, які там знаходилися.

I even weighed into their hands six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and a hundred silver vessels, and a hundred talents of gold;	І віддав на руки їм за вагою: срібла — шістсот п’ятдесят талантів, і срібних сосудів на сто талантів, золота — сто талантів;

and twenty golden bowls, weighing about a thousand drachms, and superior vessels of fine shining brass, precious as gold.	і чаш золотих — двадцять, на тисячу драхм, і два сосуди з кращої блискучої міді, що цінується, як золото.

And I said to them, Ye are holy to the Lord; and the vessels are holy; and the silver and the gold are freewill-offerings to the Lord God of our fathers.	І сказав я їм: ви — святиня Господня, і сосуди — святиня, і срібло і золото — добровільний дар Господу Богу батьків ваших.

Be watchful and keep them, until ye weigh them before the chief priests and the Levites, and the chiefs of families in Jerusalem, at the chambers of the house of the Lord.	Будьте ж пильні і збережіть це, доки за вагою не здасте начальникам над священиками і левитами і главам поколінь Ізраїлевих в Єрусалимі, у сховищі при домі Господньому.

So the priests and the Levites took the weight of the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, to bring to Jerusalem into the house of our God.	І прийняли священики і левити зважене срібло, і золото, і сосуди, щоб віднести в Єрусалим у дім Бога нашого.

And we departed from the river of Aüe on the twelfth day of the first month, to come to Jerusalem: and the hand of our God was upon us, and delivered us from the hand of the enemy and adversary in the way.	І вирушили ми від ріки Агави у дванадцятий день першого місяця, щоб іти в Єрусалим; і рука Бога нашого була над нами, і рятувала нас від руки ворога і від тих, що підстерігали нас на шляху.

And we came to Jerusalem, and abode there three days.	І прийшли ми в Єрусалим, і пробули там три дні.

And it came to pass on the fourth day that we weighed the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, in the house of our God, into the hand of Merimoth the son of Uria the priest; and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinees, and with them Jozabad the son of Jesus, and Noadia the son of Banaia, the Levites.	У четвертий день ми здали за вагою срібло, і золото, і сосуди в дім Бога нашого, на руки Меремофу, синові Урії, священику, і з ним Єлеазару, сину Финеєсовому, і з ними Іозаваду, сину Ісусовому, і Ноадії, сину Виннуя, левитам,

All things were reckoned by number and weight, and the whole weight was written down.	усе за рахунком і вагою. І все зважене записано в той же час.

At that time the children of the banishment that came from the captivity offered whole-burnt-offerings to the God of Israel, twelve calves for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, twelve goats for a sin-offering: all whole-burnt-offerings to the Lord.	Переселенці, які прийшли з полону, принесли у всепалення Богу Ізраїлевому дванадцять тельців з усього Ізраїля, дев’яносто шість баранів, сімдесят сім агнців і дванадцять козлів у жертву за гріх: усе це у всепалення Господу.

And they gave the king's mandate to the king's lieutenants, and the governors beyond the river: and they honoured the people and the house of God.	І віддали царські повеління царським сатрапам і зарічним областеначальникам, і вони вшанували народ і дім Божий.
Chapter 9	Глава 9

And when these things were finished, the princes drew near to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands in their abominations, even the Chananite, the Ethite, the Pherezite, the Jebusite, the Ammonite, the Moabite, and the Moserite and the Amorite.	Після закінчення цього, підійшли до мене начальники і сказали: народ Ізраїлів і священики і левити не відокремилися від народів іноплемінних з мерзотами їх, від хананеїв, хеттеїв, ферезеїв, ієвусеїв, аммонитян, моавитян, єгиптян і аморреїв,

For they have taken of their daughters for themselves and their sons; and the holy seed has passed among the nations of the lands, and the hand of the rulers has been first in this transgression.	тому що взяли дочок їхніх за себе і за синів своїх, і змішалося сíм’я святе з народами іноплемінними, і притому рука найзнатніших і найголовніших була в цьому беззаконні першою.

And when I heard this thing, I rent my garments, and trembled, and plucked some of the hairs of my head and of my beard, and sat down mourning.	Почувши це слово, я роздер нижній і верхній одяг свій і рвав волосся на голові моїй і на бороді моїй, і сидів сумний.

Then there assembled to me all that followed the word of the God of Israel, on account of the transgression of the captivity; and I remained mourning until the evening sacrifice.	Тоді зібралися до мене всі, хто боявся слів Бога Ізраїлевого з причини переступу переселенців, і я сидів у сумі до вечірньої жертви.

And at the evening sacrifice I rose up from my humiliation; and when I had rent my garments, then I trembled, and I bow myself on my knees, and spread out my hands to the Lord God,	А під час вечірньої жертви я встав з місця нарікання мого, і в розідраному нижньому і верхньому одязі упав на коліна мої і простяг руки мої до Господа Бога мого

and I said, O Lord, I am ashamed and confounded, O my God, to lift up my face to thee: for our transgressions have abounded over our head, and our trespasses have increased even to heaven.	і сказав: Боже мій! соромлюся і боюся підняти лице моє до Тебе, Боже мій, тому що беззаконня наші стали вище голови, і провина наша зросла до небес.

From the days of our fathers we have been in a great trespass until this day: and because of our iniquities we, and our kings, and our children, have been delivered into the hand of the kings of the Gentiles by the sword, and by captivity, and by spoil, and with shame of our face, as at this day.	Від днів батьків наших ми у великій провині до цього дня, і за беззаконня наші віддані були ми, царі наші, священики наші, в руки царів іноземних, під меч, у полон і на пограбування і на посоромлення, як це і нині.

And now our God has dealt mercifully with us, so as to leave us to escape, and to give us an establishment in the place of his sanctuary, to enlighten our eyes, and to give a little quickening in our servitude.	І ось, через короткий час, дароване нам помилування від Господа Бога нашого, і Він залишив у нас трохи вцілілих і дав нам утвердитися на місці святині Його, і просвітив очі наші Бог наш, і дав нам ожити трохи в рабстві нашому.

For we are slaves, yet in our servitude the Lord our God has not deserted us; and he has extended favour to us in the sight of the kings of the Persians, to give us a quickening, that they should raise up the house of our God, and restore the desolate places of it, and to give us a fence in Juda and Jerusalem.	Ми — раби, але й у рабстві нашому не залишив нас Бог наш. І схилив Він до нас милість царів перських, щоб вони дали нам ожити, спорудити дім Бога нашого і відновити його з руїн його, і дали нам огородження в Юдеї й у Єрусалимі.

What shall we say, our God, after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments,	І нині, що скажемо ми, Боже наш, після цього? Бо ми відступили від заповідей Твоїх,

which thou hast given us by the hand of thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, into which ye go to inherit it, is a land subject to disturbance by the removal of the people of the nations for their abominations, wherewith they have filled it from one end to the other by their uncleannesses.	які заповідав Ти через рабів Твоїх пророків, говорячи: земля, у яку ви йдете, щоб оволодіти нею, земля нечиста, вона осквернена нечистотою іноплемінних народів, їх мерзотами, якими вони наповнили її від краю до краю в оскверненнях своїх.

And now give not your daughters to their sons, and take not of their daughters for your sons, neither shall ye seek their peace or their good for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and transmit it as an inheritance to your children for ever.	Отже, дочок ваших не видавайте за синів їхніх, і дочок їхніх не беріть за синів ваших, і не шукайте миру їхнього і благ їхніх повіки, щоб укріпитися вам і насичуватися благами землі тієї і передати її у спадщину синам вашим повіки.

And after all that is come upon us because of our evil deeds, and our great trespass, it is clear that there is none such as our God, for thou hast lightly visited our iniquities, and given us deliverance;	І після всього, що спіткало нас за злі діла наші і за велику провину нашу, — тому що Ти, Боже наш, пощадив нас не мірою беззаконня нашого і дав нам таке визволення, —

whereas we have repeatedly broken thy commandments, and intermarried with the people of the lands: be not very angry with us to our utter destruction, so that there should be no remnant or escaping one.	невже ми знову будемо порушувати заповіді Твої і вступати в родинні зв’язки з цими мерзенними народами? Чи не прогніваєшся Ти на нас навіть до знищення нас, так що не буде вцілілих і не буде спасіння?

O Lord God of Israel, thou art righteous; for we remain yet escaped, as at this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee on this account.	Господи Боже Ізраїлів! праведний Ти. Бо ми залишилися уцілілими до цього дня; і ось ми в беззаконнях наших перед лицем Твоїм, хоча після цього не належало б нам стояти перед лицем Твоїм.
Chapter 10	Глава 10

So when Esdras had prayed, and when he had confessed, weeping and praying before the house of God, a very great assembly of Israel came together to him, men and women and youths; for the people wept, and wept aloud.	Коли так молився Ездра і сповідувався, плачучи і волаючи перед домом Божим, зійшлося до нього дуже велике зібрання ізраїльтян, чоловіків і жінок і дітей, тому що і народ багато плакав.

And Sechenias the son of Jeel, of the sons of Elam, answered and said to Esdras, We have broken covenant with our God, and have taken strange wives of the nations of the land: yet now there is patience of hope to Israel concerning this thing.	І відповів Шеханія, син Ієхиїла із синів Еламових, і сказав Ездрі: ми зробили злочин перед Богом нашим, що взяли собі дружин іноплемінних з народів землі, але є ще надія для Ізраїля в цій справі;

Now then let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and their offspring, as thou shalt advise:	укладемо тепер завіт з Богом нашим, що, за порадою господаря мого і тих, що благоговіють перед заповідями Бога нашого, ми відпустимо від себе усіх дружин і дітей, народжених ними, — і нехай буде за законом!

arise, and alarm them with the commands of our God; and let it be done according to the law. Rise up, for the matter is upon thee; and we are with thee: be strong and do.	Встань, тому що це твоя справа, і ми з тобою: підбадьорись і дій!
5	5
Then Esdras arose, and caused the rulers, the priests, and Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word: and they swore.	І встав Ездра, і повелів начальникам над священиками, левитами і всім Ізраїлем дати клятву, що вони зроблять так. І вони дали клятву.
6	6
And Esdras rose up from before the house of God, and went to the treasury of Joanan the son of Elisub; he even went thither: he ate no bread, and drank no water; for he mourned over the unfaithfulness of them of the captivity.	І встав Ездра і пішов від дому Божого в житло Іоханана, сина Елияшивового, і прийшов туди. Хліба він не їв і води не пив, тому що плакав за злочин переселенців.

And they made proclamation throughout Juda and Jerusalem to all the children of the captivity, that they should assemble at Jerusalem, saying,	І оголосили в Юдеї і в Єрусалимі всім, хто був у полоні, щоб вони зібралися в Єрусалимі;
8	8
Every one who shall not arrive within three days, as is the counsel of the rulers and the elders, all his substance shall be forfeited, and he shall be separated from the congregation of the captivity.	а хто не прийде через три дні, на все майно того, за визначенням начальників і старійшин, буде накладене закляття, і сам він буде відлучений від громади переселенців.

So all the men of Juda and Benjamin assembled at Jerusalem within the three days. This was the ninth month: on the twentieth day of the month all the people sat down in the street of the house of the Lord, because of their alarm concerning the word, and because of the storm.	І зібралися всі жителі Юдеї і землі Веніамінової в Єрусалимі за три дні. Це було в дев’ятому місяці, у двадцятий день місяця. І сидів весь народ на площі біля дому Божого, тремтячи як у цій справі, так і від дощів.

And Esdras the priest arose, and said to them, Ye have broken covenant, and have taken strange wives, to add to the trespass of Israel.	І встав Ездра священик і сказав їм: ви зробили злочин, узявши собі дружин іноплемінних, і тим збільшили провину Ізраїля.
11	11
Now therefore give praise to the Lord God of our fathers, and do that which is pleasing in his sight: and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land, and from the strange wives.	Отже, покайтеся в цьому перед Господом Богом батьків ваших, і виконайте волю Його, і відлучіть себе від народів землі і від дружин іноплемінних.
12	12
Then all the congregation answered and said, This thy word is powerful upon us to do it.	І відповіло все зібрання, і сказало гучним голосом: як ти сказав, так і зробимо.
13	13
But the people is numerous, and the season is stormy, and there is no power to stand without, and the work is more than enough for one day or for two; for we have greatly sinned in this matter.	Однак же народ численний і час тепер дощовий, і немає можливости стояти на вулиці. Та й ця справа не одного дня і не двох, тому що ми багато в цій справі згрішили.
14	14
Let now our rulers stand, and for all those in our cities who have taken strange wives, let them come at appointed times, and with them elders from every several city, and judges, to turn away the fierce wrath of our God from us concerning this matter.	Нехай наші начальники заступлять місце всієї громади, і всі в містах наших, які взяли дружин іноплемінних, нехай приходять сюди в призначений час і з ними старійшини кожного міста і су́дді його, доки не відвернеться від нас розпалений гнів Бога нашого за цю справу.
15	15
Only Jonathan the son of Asael, and Jazias the son of Thecoe were with me concerning this; and Mesollam, and Sabbathai the Levite helped them.	Тоді Іонафан, син Асаїла, і Яхзеія, син Фикви, стали над цією справою, і Мешуллам і Шавфай левит були помічниками їм.

And the children of the captivity did thus: and Esdras the priest, and heads of families according to their house were separated, and all by their names, for they returned in the first day of the tenth month to search out the matter.	І зробили так ті, що вийшли з полону. І виділені на це Ездра священик, глави поколінь, від кожного покоління їх, і всі вони названі поіменно. І зробили вони засідання в перший день десятого місяця, для дослідження цієї справи;

And they made an end with all the men who had taken strange wives by the first day of the first month.	і закінчили дослідження про всіх, які взяли дружин іноплемінних, до першого дня першого місяця.

And there were found some of the sons of the priests who had taken strange wives: of the sons of Jesus the son of Josedec, and his brethren; Maasia, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gadalia.	І знайшлися з синів священичих, які взяли дружин іноплемінних, — із синів Ісуса, сина Іоседекового, і братів його: Маасея, Єлиєзер, Іарив і Гедалія;

And they pledged themselves to put away their wives, and offered a ram of the flock for a trespass-offering because of their trespass.	і вони дали руки свої в запевнення, що відпустять дружин своїх, і що вони повинні принести в жертву барана за свою провину;

And of the sons of Emmer; Anani, and Zabdia.	і з синів Іммера: Хананій і Зевадія;

And of the sons of Eram; Masael, and Elia, and Samaia, and Jeel, and Ozia.	і з синів Харима: Маасея, Елия, Шемаія, Ієхиїл і Уззія;

And of the sons of Phasur; Elionai, Maasia, and Ismael, and Nathanael, and Jozabad, and Elasa.	і з синів Пашхура: Елиоєнай, Маасея, Ісмаїл, Нафанаїл, Іозавад і Еласа;

And of the Levites; Jozabad, and Samu, and Colia (he is Colitas,) and Phetheia, and Judas, and Eliezer.	і з левитів: Іозавад, Шимей і Келаія, він же Клита, Пафахія, Іуда та Єлиєзер;

And of the singers; Elisab: and of the porters; Solmen, and Telmen, and Oduth.	і зі співців: Елияшив; і з воротарів: Шаллум, Телем і Урій;

Also of Israel: of the sons of Phoros; Ramia, and Azia, and Melchia, and Meamin, and Eleazar, and Asabia, and Banaia.	а з ізраїльтян, — із синів Пароша: Рамаія, Іззія, Малхія, Миямин, Єлеазар, Малхія і Венаія;

And of the sons of Helam; Matthania, and Zacharia, and Jaïel, and Abdia, and Jarimoth, and Elia.	і з синів Елама: Матфанія, Захарія, Ієхиєл, Авдій, Іремоф і Елія;

And of the sons of Phaath Moab; Edne, and Chalel, and Banaia, Maasia, Matthania, Beseleel, and Banui, and Manasse.	і з синів Пахаф-Моава: Адна, Хелал, Венаія, Маасея, Матфанія, Веселеїл, Биннуй і Манассія;

And of the sons of Eram; Eliezer, Jesia, Melchia, Samaias, Semeon,	і з синів Харима: Єлиєзер, Ішшія, Малхія, Шемаія, Симеон,

All these had taken strange wives, and had begotten sons of them.	Усі ці взяли за себе дружин іноплемінних, і деякі з цих дружин народили їм дітей.
