The word of the Lord which came to Osee the son of Beeri, in the days of Ozias, and Joatham, and Achaz, and Ezekias, kings of Juda, and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joas, king of Israel. The beginning of the word of the Lord by Osee. And the Lord said to Osee, Go, take to thyself a wife of fornication, and children of fornication: for the land will surely go a-whoring in departing from the Lord.	Початок слова Господнього до Осії. І сказав Господь Осії: йди, візьми собі дружину блудницю і дітей блуду; бо сильно блудодіє земля ця, відступивши від Господа.

So he went and took Gomer, daughter of Debelaim; and she conceived, and bore him a son.	І пішов він і взяв Гомерь, дочку Дивлаїма; і вона зачала і народила йому сина.

And the Lord said to him, Call his name Jezrael; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezrael on the house of Juda, and will make to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.	І Господь сказав йому: наречи йому ім’я Ізреель, тому що ще трохи мине, і Я стягну кров Ізрееля з дому Іиуєвого, і покладу кінець царству дому Ізраїлевого,

And it shall be, in that day, that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezrael.	і буде у той день, Я знищу лук Ізраїлів у долині Ізреель.

And she conceived again, and bore a daughter. And he said to him, Call her name, Unpitied: for I will no more have mercy on the house of Israel, but will surely set myself in array against them.	І зачала ще, і народила дочку, і Він сказав йому: наречи їй ім’я Лорухама^*; бо Я вже не буду більше милувати дім Ізраїлів, щоб прощати їм.

But I will have mercy on the house of Juda, and will save them by the Lord their God, and will not save them with bow, nor with sword, nor by war, nor by horses, nor by horsemen.	А дім Іудин помилую і спасу їх у Господі Бозі їх, спасу їх не луком, не мечем, не війною, не конями і вершниками.

And she weaned Unpitied; and she conceived again, and bore a son.	І, вигодувавши грудьми Непомилувану, вона зачала, і народила сина.

And he said, Call his name, Not my people: for ye are not my people, and I am not your God.	І сказав Він: наречи йому ім’я Лоаммі^*, тому що ви не Мій народ, і Я не буду вашим [Богом].
Chapter 2	Глава 2

Yet the number of the children of Israel was as the sand of the sea, which shall not be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said to them, Ye are not my people, even they shall be called the sons of the living God.	Говоріть братам вашим: «Мій народ», і сестрам вашим: «Помилувана».

And the children of Juda shall be gathered, and the children of Israel together, and shall appoint themselves one head, and shall come up out of the land: for great shall be the day of Jezrael.	Судіться з вашою матір’ю, судіться; бо вона не дружина Моя, і Я не чоловік її; нехай вона відкине блуд від лиця свого і перелюбство від грудей своїх,

Say to your brother, My people, and to your sister, Pitied.	щоб Я не роздяг її донага і не виставив її, як у день народження її, не зробив її пустелею, не обернув її на землю суху і не уморив її спрагою.

Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband: and I will remove her fornication out of my presence, and her adultery from between her breasts:	І дітей її не помилую, тому що вони діти блуду.

that I may strip her naked, and make her again as she was at the day of her birth: and I will make her desolate, and make her as a dry land, and will kill her with thirst.	Бо блудодіяла мати їхня й осоромила себе та, яка зачала їх; бо говорила: «піду за коханцями моїми, які дають мені хліб і воду, вовну і льон, єлей і напої».

And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they are children of fornication.	За те ось, Я перегороджу шлях її тернами й обнесу її огорожею, і вона не знайде стежок своїх,

And their mother went a-whoring: she that bore them disgraced them: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, and my garments, and my linen clothes, my oil and all my necessaries.	і поженеться за коханцями своїми, але не наздожене їх, і буде шукати їх, але не знайде, і скаже: «піду я, і повернуся до першого чоловіка мого; бо тоді краще було мені, ніж тепер».

Therefore, behold, I hedge up her way with thorns, and will stop the ways, and she shall not find her path.	А не знала вона, що Я, Я давав їй хліб і вино та єлей і примножив у неї срібло і золото, із якого зробили ідола Ваала.

And she shall follow after her lovers, and shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: and she shall say, I will go, and return to my former husband; for it was better with me than now.	За те Я візьму назад хліб Мій у його час і вино Моє у його пору і відберу вовну і льон Мій, чим покривається нагота її.

And she knew not that I gave her her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied silver to her: but she made silver and gold images for Baal.	І нині відкрию сором її перед очима коханців її, і ніхто не візьме її з руки Моєї.

Therefore I will return, and take away my corn in its season, and my wine in its time; and I will take away my raiment and my linen clothes, so that she shall not cover her nakedness.	І припиню у неї всякі веселощі, свята її і новомісяччя її, і суботи її, і всі торжества її.

And now I will expose her uncleanness before her lovers, and no one shall by any means deliver her out of my hand.	І спустошу виноградні лози її і смоковниці її, про які вона говорить: «це у мене подарунки, які надарували мені коханці мої»; і Я перетворю їх на ліс, і польові звірі поїдять їх.
13	13
And I will take away all her gladness, her feasts, and her festivals at the new moon, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn assemblies.	І покараю її за дні служіння Ваалам, коли вона кадила їм і, прикрасивши себе сережками і намистами, ходила за коханцями своїми, а Мене забула, — говорить Господь.

And I will utterly destroy her vines, and her fig-trees, all things of which she said, These are my hire which my lovers have given me: and I will make them a testimony, and the wild beasts of the field, and the birds of the sky, and the reptiles of the earth shall devour them.	Тому ось, і Я захоплю її, приведу її в пустелю, і буду говорити до серця її.

And I will recompense on her the days of Baalim, wherein she sacrificed to them, and put on her ear-rings, and her necklaces, and went after her lovers, and forgot me, saith the Lord.	І дам їй звідти виноградники її і долину Ахор, у переддень надії; і вона буде співати там, як у дні юности своєї і як у день виходу свого із землі Єгипетської.

Therefore, behold, I will cause her to err, and will make her as desolate, and will speak comfortably to her.	І буде у той день, — говорить Господь, — ти будеш кликати Мене: «чоловіче мій», і не будеш більше кликати Мене: «Ваале^*».
17	17
And I will give her her possessions from thence, and the valley of Achor to open her understanding: and she shall be afflicted there according to the days of her infancy, and according to the days of her coming up out of the land of Egypt.	І відкину імена Ваалів від уст її, і не будуть більше згадувані імена їх.
18	18
And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord, that she shall call me, My husband, and shall no longer call me Baalim.	І укладу в той час для них союз із польовими звірами і з птахами небесними, і з плазунами на землі; і лук, і меч, і війну знищу від землі тієї, і дам їм жити у безпеці.
19	19
And I will take away the names of Baalim out of her mouth, and their names shall be remembered no more at all.	І заручу тебе Мені повік, і заручу тебе Мені у правді і суді, у благості й милосерді.
20	20
And I will make for them in that day a covenant with the wild beasts of the field, and with the birds of the sky, and with the reptiles of the earth: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle from off the earth, and will cause thee to dwell safely.	І заручу тебе Мені у вірності, і ти пізнаєш Господа.

And I will betroth thee to myself for ever; yea, I will betroth thee to myself in righteousness, and in judgment, and in mercy, and in tender compassions;	І буде у той день, Я почую, — говорить Господь, — почую небо, і воно почує землю,

and I will betroth thee to myself in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the Lord.	і земля почує хліб і вино і єлей; а ці почують Ізреель.

And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord, I will hearken to the heaven, and it shall hearken to the earth;	І посію її для Себе на землі, і помилую Непомилувану, і скажу не Моєму народу: «ти Мій народ», а він скаже: «Ти мій Бог!»

and the earth shall hearken to the corn, and the wine, and the oil; and they shall hearken to Jezrael.
25
And I will sow her to me on the earth; and will love her that was not loved, and will say to that which was not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art the Lord my God.
Chapter 3	Глава 3

1	1
And the Lord said to me, Go yet, and love a woman that loves evil things, and an adulteress, even as the Lord loves the children of Israel, and they have respect to strange gods, and love cakes of dried grapes.	І сказав мені Господь: іди ще, і полюби жінку, яку любить чоловік, але яка перелюбствує, подібно до того, як любить Господь синів Ізраїлевих, а вони звертаються до інших богів і люблять виноградні коржі їх.

So I hired her to myself for fifteen pieces of silver, and a homer of barley, and a flagon of wine.	І придбав я її собі за п’ятнадцять срібників і за хомер ячменю і півхомера ячменю

And I said unto her, Thou shalt wait for me many days; and thou shalt not commit fornication, neither shalt thou be for another man; and I will be for thee.	і сказав їй: багато днів залишайся у мене; не блуди, і не будь з іншим; так само і я буду для тебе.

For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an altar, and without a priesthood, and without manifestations.	Бо довгий час сини Ізраїлеві будуть залишатися без царя і без князя і без жертви, без жертовника, без ефода і терафима.

And afterward shall the children of Israel return, and shall seek the Lord their God, and David their king; and shall be amazed at the Lord and at his goodness in the latter days. Chapter 4	Глава 4

1	1
Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel: for the Lord has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.	Слухайте слово Господнє, сини Ізраїлеві; бо суд у Господа з жителями цієї землі, тому що немає ні істини, ні милосердя, ні Богопізнання на землі.

Cursing, and lying, and murder, and theft, and adultery abound in the land, and they mingle blood with blood.	Клятва й обман, убивство і крадійство, і перелюбство вкрай поширилися, і кровопролиття йде за кровопролиттям.
3	3
Therefore shall the land mourn, and shall be diminished with all that dwell in it, with the wild beasts of the field, and the reptiles of the earth, and with the birds of the sky, and the fish of the sea shall fail:	За те заплаче земля ця, і знеможуть усі, хто живе на ній, зі звірами польовими і птахами небесними, навіть і риби морські загинуть.

that neither any one may plead, nor any one reprove another: but my people are as a priest spoken against.	Але ніхто не сперечайся, ніхто не викривай іншого; і твій народ — як ті, що сперечаються зі священиком.
5	5
Therefore they shall fall by day, and the prophet with thee shall fall: I have compared thy mother unto night.	І ти впадеш удень, і пророк упаде з тобою вночі, і знищу матір твою.
6	6
My people are like as if they had no knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt not minister as priest to me: and as thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.	Знищений буде народ Мій за нестачу відання: оскільки ти відкинув відання, то і Я відкину тебе від священнодійства переді Мною; і як ти забув закон Бога твого, так і Я забуду дітей твоїх.

According to their multitude, so they sinned against me: I will turn their glory into shame.	Чим більше вони примножуються, тим більше грішать проти Мене; славу їхню перетворю на безславність.
8	8
They will devour the sins of my people, and will set their hearts on their iniquities.	Гріхами народу Мого годуються вони, і до беззаконня його прагне душа їх.
9	9
And the priest shall be as the people: and I will avenge on them their ways, and I will recompense to them their counsels.	І що буде з народом, те і зі священиком; і покараю його за шляхами його, і воздам йому за ділами його.
10	10
And they shall eat, and shall not be satisfied: they have gone a-whoring, and shall by no means prosper: because they have left off to take heed to the Lord.	Будуть їсти, і не наситяться; будуть блудити, і не розмножаться; бо залишили служіння Господу.
11	11
The heart of my people has gladly engaged in fornication and wine and strong drink.	Блуд, вино і напої заволоділи серцем їх.
12	12
They asked counsel by means of signs, and they reported answer to them by their staves: they have gone astray in a spirit of whoredom, and gone grievously a-whoring from their God.	Народ Мій запитує своє дерево і жезл його дає йому відповідь; бо дух блуду ввів їх в оману, і, блудодіючи, вони відступили від Бога свого.
13	13
They have sacrificed on the tops of the mountains, and on the hills they have sacrificed under the oak and poplar, and under the shady tree, because the shade was good: therefore your daughters shall go a-whoring, and your daughters-in-law shall commit adultery.	На вершинах гір вони приносять жертви і на пагорбах звершують кадіння під дубом і тополею і теревинфом, тому що гарна від них тінь; тому любодіють дочки ваші і перелюбствують невістки ваші.
14	14
And I will not visit upon your daughters when they shall commit fornication, nor your daughters-in-law when they shall commit adultery: for they themselves mingled themselves with harlots, and sacrificed with polluted ones, and the people that understood not entangled itself with a harlot.	Я залишу карати дочок ваших, коли вони блудодіють, і невісток ваших, коли вони перелюбствують, тому що ви самі на боці блудниць і з любодійцями приносите жертви, а темний народ гине.
15	15
But thou, Israel, be not ignorant, and go ye not, men of Juda, to Galgala; and go not up to the house of On, and swear not by the living Lord.	Якщо ти, Ізраїлю, блудодієш, те нехай не грішив би Іуда; і не ходіть у Галгал, і не піднімайтеся в Беф-Авен, і не кляніться: «живий Господь!»
16	16
For Israel was maddened like a mad heifer: now the Lord will feed them as a lamb in a wide place.	Бо, як уперта телиця, впертим став Ізраїль; тому чи буде тепер Господь пасти їх, як агнців на великому пасовищі?
17	17
Ephraim, joined with idols, has laid stumbling-blocks in his own way.	Прив’язався до ідолів Єфрем; залиш його!
18	18
He has chosen the Chananites: they have grievously gone a-whoring: they have loved dishonour through her insolence.	Гидке пияцтво їх, цілком віддалися блудодіянню; князі їхні люблять ганебне.
19	19
Thou art a blast of wind in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their altars.	Охопить їх вітер своїми крилами, і посоромляться вони жертв своїх.
Chapter 5	Глава 5

1	1
Hear these things, ye priests; and attend, O house of Israel; and hearken, O house of the king; for the controversy is with you, because ye have been a snare in Scopia, and as a net spread on Itabyrium,	Слухайте це, священики, і дослухайтеся, доме Ізраїлів, і прихиліть вухо, доме царя; бо вам буде суд, тому що ви були пасткою у Массифі і сіттю, раскинутою на Фаворі.

which they that hunt the prey have fixed: but I will correct you.	Глибоко загрузли вони у розпусті; але Я покараю всіх їх.
3	3
I know Ephraim, and Israel is not far from me: for now Ephraim has gone grievously a-whoring, Israel is defiled.	Єфрема Я знаю, й Ізраїль не утаєний від Мене; бо ти блудодієш, Єфреме, й Ізраїль осквернився.
4	4
They have not framed their counsels to return to their God, for the spirit of fornication is in them, and they have not known the Lord.	Діла їх не допускають їх навернутися до Бога свого, бо дух блуду всередині них, і Господа вони не пізнали.
5	5
And the pride of Israel shall be brought low before his face; and Israel and Ephraim shall fall in their iniquities; and Judas also shall fall with them.	І гордість Ізраїля принижена в очах їх; і Ізраїль і Єфрем упадуть від нечестя свого; впаде й Іуда з ними.
6	6
They shall go with sheep and calves diligently to seek the Lord; but they shall not find him, for he has withdrawn himself from them.	З вівцями своїми і волами своїми підуть шукати Господа і не знайдуть Його: Він відійшов від них.
7	7
For they have forsaken the Lord; for strange children have been born to them: now shall the cankerworm devour them and their heritages.	Господу вони зрадили, тому що народили чужих дітей; нині новий місяць поїсть їх з їхнім майном.

Blow ye the trumpet on the hills, sound aloud on the heights: proclaim in the house of On, Benjamin is amazed.	Засурміть рогом у Гиві, трубою у Рамі; виголошуйте у Беф-Авені: «за тобою, Веніаміне!»

Ephraim has come to nought in the days of reproof: in the tribes of Israel I have shown faithful dealings.	Єфрем зробиться пустелею у день покарання; між колінами Ізраїлевими Я звістив це.

The princes of Juda became as they that removed the bounds: I will pour out upon them my fury as water.	Вожді Іудині стали подібні до тих, хто пересуває межі: виллю на них гнів Мій, як воду.

Ephraim altogether prevailed against his adversary, he trod judgment under foot, for he began to go after vanities.	Пригнічений Єфрем, уражений судом; бо захотів ходити услід за суєтними.

Therefore I will be as consternation to Ephraim, and as a goad to the house of Juda.	І буду як міль для Єфрема і як черва для дому Іудиного.
13	13
And Ephraim saw his disease, and Judas his pain; then Ephraim went to the Assyrians, and sent ambassadors to king Jarim: but he could not heal you, and your pain shall in nowise cease from you.	І побачив Єфрем хворобу свою, й Іуда — свою рану, і пішов Єфрем до Ассура, і послав до царя Іарева; але він не може зцілити вас, і не вилікує вас від рани.

Wherefore I am as a panther to Ephraim, and as a lion to the house of Juda: and I will tear, and go away; and I will take, and there shall be none to deliver.	Бо Я як лев для Єфрема і як скимен для дому Іудиного; Я, Я розтерзаю, і піду; віднесу, і ніхто не спасе.

I will go and return to my place, until they are brought to nought, and then shall they seek my face. In their affliction they will seek me early, saying,	Піду, повернуся у Моє місце, доки вони не визнають себе винними і не знайдуть лиця Мого.
Chapter 6	Глава 6

1	1
Let us go, and return to the Lord our God; for he has torn, and will heal us; he will smite, and bind us up.	У скорботі своїй вони з раннього ранку будуть шукати Мене і говорити: «ходімо і повернемося до Господа! бо Він уразив — і Він зцілить нас, поразив — і перев’яже наші рани;

After two days he will heal us: in the third day we shall arise, and live before him, and shall know him:	оживить нас через два дні, на третій день підніме нас, і ми будемо жити перед лицем Його.
3	3
let us follow on to know the Lord: we shall find him ready as the morning, and he will come to us as the early and latter rain to the earth.	Отже, пізнаємо, будемо прагнути пізнати Господа; як ранкова зоря — явлення Його, і Він прийде до нас, як дощ, як пізній дощ зросить землю».
4	4
What shall I do unto thee, Ephraim? What shall I do to thee, Juda? whereas your mercy is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew that goes away.	Що зроблю тобі, Єфреме? що зроблю тобі, Іудо? благочестя ваше, як ранковий туман і як роса, яка швидко зникає.

Therefore have I mown down your prophets; I have slain them with the word of my mouth: and my judgment shall go forth as the light.	Тому Я уражав через пророків і бив їх словами вуст Моїх, і суд Мій, як світло, що сходить.

For I will have mercy rather than sacrifice, and the knowledge of God rather than whole-burnt-offerings.	Бо Я милости хочу, а не жертви, і Боговідання більше, ніж всепалення.

But they are as a man transgressing a covenant:	Вони ж, подібно до Адама, порушили завіт і там зрадили Мене.
8	8
there the city Galaad despised me, working vanity, troubling water.	Галаад — місто нечестивців, заплямоване кров’ю.
9	9
And thy strength is that of a robber: the priests have hid the way, they have murdered the people of Sicima; for they have wrought iniquity in the house of Israel.	Як розбійники підстерігають людину, так збіговисько священиків убиває на шляху в Сихем і робить мерзоти.
10	10
I have seen horrible things there, even the fornication of Ephraim: Israel and Juda are defiled;	У домі Ізраїля Я бачу жахливе; там блудодіяння в Єфрема, осквернився Ізраїль.
11	11
begin to gather grapes for thyself, when I turn the captivity of my people.	І тобі, Іудо, призначені жнива, коли Я поверну полон народу Мого.
Chapter 7	Глава 7

1	1
When I have healed Israel, then shall the iniquity of Ephraim be revealed, and the wickedness of Samaria; for they have wrought falsehood: and a thief shall come in to him, even a robber spoiling in his way;	Коли Я лікував Ізраїля, відкрилася неправда Єфрема і злодійство Самарії: бо вони чинять неправдиво; і входить злодій, і розбійник грабує на вулицях.

that they may concert together as men singing in their heart: I remember all their wickedness: now have their own counsels compassed them about; they came before my face.	Не помишляють вони у серці своєму, що Я пам’ятаю всі злодіяння їхні; тепер оточують їх діла їхні; вони перед лицем Моїм.

They gladdened kings with their wickedness, and princes with their lies.	Лиходійством своїм вони звеселяють царя й обманами своїми — князів.

They are all adulterers, as an oven glowing with flame for hot-baking, on account of the kneading of the dough, until it is leavened.	Усі вони палають перелюбством, як піч, розтоплена пекарем, який перестає підпалювати її, коли замісить тісто і воно вкисне.

In the days of our kings, the princes began to be inflamed with wine: he stretched out his hand with pestilent fellows.	«День нашого царя!» — говорять князі, розпалені до хвороби вином, а він простягає руку свою до кощунників.

Wherefore their hearts are inflamed as an oven, while they rage all the night: Ephraim is satisfied with sleep; the morning is come; he is burnt up as a flame of fire.	Бо вони підступництвом своїм роблять серце своє подібним до печі: пекар їхній спить усю ніч, а вранці вона горить, як розпалений вогонь.

They are all heated like an oven, and have devoured their judges: all their kings are fallen; there was not among them one that called on me.	Усі вони розпалені, як піч, і пожирають суддів своїх; усі царі їхні падають, і ніхто з них не взиває до Мене.

Ephraim is mixed among his people; Ephraim became a cake not turned.	Єфрем змішався з народами, Єфрем став, як неперевернутий хліб.

Strangers devoured his strength, and he knew it not; and grey hairs came upon him, and he knew it not.	Чужі пожирали силу його, і він не помічав; сивина вкрила його, а він не знає.

And the pride of Israel shall be brought down before his face: yet they have not returned to the Lord their God, neither have they diligently sought him for all this.	І гордість Ізраїля принижена в очах їхніх, і, попри все те, вони не навернулися до Господа Бога свого і не знайшли Його.

And Ephraim was as a silly dove, not having a heart: he called to Egypt, and they went to the Assyrians.	І став Єфрем, як нерозумний голуб, без серця: кличуть єгиптян, ідуть в Ассирію.

Whenever they shall go, I will cast my net upon them; I will bring them down as the birds of the sky, I will chasten them with the rumour of their coming affliction.	Коли вони підуть, Я закину на них сіть Мою; як птахів небесних скину їх; покараю їх, як чуло зібрання їхнє.

Woe to them! for they have started aside from me: they are cowards; for they have sinned against me: yet I redeemed them, but they spoke falsehoods against me.	Горе їм, що вони віддалилися від Мене; загибель їм, що вони відпали від Мене! Я спасав їх, а вони неправду говорили на Мене.

And their hearts did not cry to me, but they howled on their beds: they pined for oil and wine.	І не взивали до Мене серцем своїм, коли волали на ложах своїх; збираються через хліб і вино, а від Мене віддаляються.

They were instructed by me, and I strengthened their arms; and they devised evils against me.	Я напоумляв їх і зміцнював м’язи їхні, а вони замишляли лихе проти Мене.

They turned aside to that which is not, they became as a bent bow: their princes shall fall by the sword, by reason of the unbridled state of their tongue: this is their setting at nought in the land of Egypt.	Вони наверталися, але не до Всевишнього, стали — як невірний лук; упадуть від меча князі їхні за зухвалість язика свого; це буде посміянням над ними у землі Єгипетській.
Chapter 8	Глава 8

He shall come into their midst as the land, as an eagle against the house of the Lord, because they have transgressed my covenant, and have sinned against my law.	Трубу до вуст твоїх! Як орел налетить на дім Господній за те, що вони порушили завіт Мій і переступили закон Мій!
2	2
They shall soon cry out to me, saying, O God, we know thee.	До Мене будуть волати: «Боже мій! ми пізнали Тебе, ми — Ізраїль».
3	3
For Israel has turned away from good things; they have pursued an enemy.	Відкинув Ізраїль добре; ворог буде переслідувати його.
4	4
They have made kings for themselves, but not by me: they have ruled, but they did not make it known to me: of their silver and their gold they have made images to themselves, that they might be destroyed.	Поставляли царів самі, без Мене; ставили князів, але без Мого відома; зі срібла свого і золота свого зробили для себе ідолів: звідти загибель.

Cast off thy calf, O Samaria; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will they be unable to purge themselves in Israel?	Залишив тебе телець твій, Самаріє! запалав гнів Мій на них; доки не можуть вони очиститися?

Whereas the workman made it, and it is not God; wherefore thy calf, Samaria, was a deceiver:	Бо і він — діло Ізраїля: художник зробив його, і тому він не бог; на шматки перетвориться телець самарійський!

for they sowed blighted seed, and their destruction shall await them, a sheaf of corn that avails not to make meal; and even if it should produce it, strangers shall devour it.	Оскільки вони сіяли вітер, то і пожнуть бурю: хліба на корені не буде у нього; зерно не дасть борошна; а якщо і дасть, то чужі проковтнуть його.

Israel is swallowed up: now is he become among the nations as a worthless vessel.	Поглинений Ізраїль; тепер вони будуть серед народів, як негідний сосуд.
9	9
For they have gone up to the Assyrians: Ephraim has been strengthened against himself; they loved gifts.	Вони пішли до Ассура, як дикий осел, який самотньо блукає; Єфрем купував подарунками прихильність до себе.

Therefore shall they be delivered to the nations: now I will receive them, and they shall cease a little to anoint a king and princes.	Хоч вони і посилали дари до народів, але скоро Я зберу їх, і вони почнуть страждати від тягаря царя князів;

Because Ephraim has multiplied altars, his beloved altars are become sins to him.	бо багато жертовників набудував Єфрем для гріха, — на гріх послужили йому ці жертовники!

I will write down a multitude of commands for him; but his statutes are accounted strange things, even the beloved altars.	Написав Я йому важливі закони Мої, але вони вважаються ним ніби за чужі.

For if they should offer a sacrifice, and eat flesh, the Lord will not accept them: now will he remember their iniquities, and will take vengeance on their sins: they have returned to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things among the Assyrians.	У жертвоприношеннях Мені вони приносять м’ясо і їдять його; Господу неугодні вони; нині Він згадає нечестя їх і покарає їх за гріхи їхні: вони повернуться в Єгипет.

And Israel has forgotten him that made him, and they have built fanes, and Juda has multiplied walled cities: but I will send fire on his cities, and it shall devour their foundations.	Забув Ізраїль Творця свого й улаштував капища, й Іуда набудував багато укріплених міст; але Я пошлю вогонь на міста його, і пожере палаци його.
Chapter 9	Глава 9

Rejoice not, O Israel, neither make merry, as other nations: for thou hast gone a-whoring from thy God; thou hast loved gifts upon every threshing-floor.	Не радій, Ізраїлю, до захоплення, як інші народи, бо ти блудодієш, віддалившись від Бога твого: любиш блудодійні дари на всіх токах.
2	2
The threshing-floor and wine-press knew them not, and the wine disappointed them.	Тік і точило не будуть годувати їх, і надія на виноградний сік обмане їх.
3	3
They dwelt not in the Lord's land: Ephraim dwelt in Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things among the Assyrians.	Не будуть вони жити на землі Господній: Єфрем повернеться в Єгипет, і в Ассирії будуть їсти нечисте.
4	4
They have not offered wine to the Lord, neither have their sacrifices been sweet to him, but as the bread of mourning to them; all that eat them shall be defiled; for their bread for their soul shall not enter into the house of the Lord.	Не будуть узливати Господу вина, і неугодні Йому будуть жертви їхні; вони будуть для них, як хліб похоронний: усі, хто буде їсти його, оскверняться, бо хліб їх — для душі їх, а у дім Господній він не увійде.

What will ye do in the day of the general assembly, and in the day of the feast of the Lord?	Що будете робити у день торжества й у день свята Господнього?

Therefore, behold, they go forth from the trouble of Egypt, and Memphis shall receive them, and Machmas shall bury them: as for their silver, destruction shall inherit it; thorns shall be in their tents.	Бо ось, вони підуть з причини спустошення; Єгипет збере їх, Мемфис поховає їх; дорогоцінностями їх зі срібла заволодіє кропива, колюче терня буде у наметах їхніх.

The days of vengeance are come, the days of thy recompense are come; and Israel shall be afflicted as the prophet that is mad, as a man deranged: by reason of the multitude of thine iniquities thy madness has abounded.	Прийшли дні відвідин, прийшли дні воздаяння; нехай дізнається Ізраїль, що нерозумний віщун, безумний той, хто видає себе за натхненного, з причини безлічі беззаконь твоїх і великої ворожости.

The watchman of Ephraim was with God: the prophet is a crooked snare in all his ways: they have established madness in the house of God.	Єфрем — страж біля Бога мого; пророк — сітка птахолова на всіх шляхах його; спокуса у домі Бога його.

They have corrupted themselves according to the days of the hill: he will remember their iniquities, he will take vengeance on their sins.	Глибоко впали вони, розбестилися, як у дні Гиви; Він згадає нечестя їх, покарає їх за гріхи їхні.

I found Israel as grapes in the wilderness, and I saw their fathers as an early watchman in a fig-tree: they went in to Beel-phegor, and were shamefully estranged, and the abominable became as the beloved. Ephraim has flown away as a bird; their glories from the birth, and the travail, and the conception.	У єфремлян, як птах, відлетить слава [чадородіння]: ні народження, ні вагітности, ні зачаття [не буде].

For even if they should rear their children, yet shall they be utterly bereaved: wherefore also there is woe to them, though my flesh is of them.	А хоч би вони і виховали дітей своїх, відніму їх; бо горе їм, коли відійду від них!
13	13
Ephraim, even as I saw, gave their children for a prey; yea, Ephraim was ready to bring out his children to slaughter.	Єфрем, як Я бачив його до Тира, насаджений на прекрасній місцевості; однак Єфрем виведе дітей своїх до вбивці.
14	14
Give them, O Lord: what wilt thou give them? a miscarrying womb, and dry breasts.	Дай їм, Господи: що Ти даси їм? дай їм утробу, яка не народжує, і сухі соски.
15	15
All their wickedness is in Galgal: for there I hated them: because of the wickedness of their practices, I will cast them out of my house, I will not love them any more: all their princes are disobedient.	Усе зло їх у Галгалі: там Я зненавидів їх за злі справи їхні; вижену їх із дому Мого, не буду більше любити їх; усі князі їхні — відступники.

Ephraim is sick, he is dried up at his roots, he shall in no wise any more bear fruit: wherefore even if they should beget children, I will kill the desired fruit of their womb.	Уражений Єфрем; висох корінь їх, — не будуть приносити вони плоду, а якщо і будуть народжувати, Я умертвлю жаданий плід утроби їх.

God shall reject them, because they have not hearkened to him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations.	Відкине їх Бог мій, тому що вони не послухалися Його, і будуть блукати між народами.
Chapter 10	Глава 10

1	1
Israel is a vine with goodly branches, her fruit is abundant: according to the multitude of her fruits she has multiplied her altars; according to the wealth of his land, he has set up pillars.	Ізраїль — гіллястий виноград, примножує для себе плід: чим більше у нього плодів, тим більше множить жертовники; чим краща земля у нього, тим більше прикрашають вони ідолів.
2	2
They have divided their hearts; now shall they be utterly destroyed: he shall dig down their altars, their pillars shall mourn.	Розділилося серце їх, за те вони і будуть покарані: Він зруйнує жертовники їхні, знищить ідолів їхніх.
3	3
Because now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the Lord:	Тепер вони говорять: «немає у нас царя, бо ми не убоялися Господа; а цар, — що́ він нам зробить?»

and what should a king do for us, speaking false professions as his words? he will make a covenant: judgment shall spring up as a weed on the soil of the field.	Говорять слова пусті, клянуться неправдиво, укладають союзи; за те з’явиться суд над ними, як отруйна трава на борознах поля.

The inhabitants of Samaria shall dwell near the calf of the house of On; for the people of it mourned for it: and as they provoked him, they shall rejoice at his glory, because he has departed from them.	За тельця Беф-Авена затремтять жителі Самарії; заплаче за ним народ його, і жерці його, які раділи за нього, будуть плакати за славою його, тому що вона відійде від нього.

And having bound it for the Assyrians, they carried it away as presents to king Jarim: Ephraim shall receive a gift, and Israel shall be ashamed of his counsel.	І сам він буде віднесений в Ассирію, у дар царю Іареву; осоромлений буде Єфрем, і осоромиться Ізраїль від задуму свого.

Samaria has cast off her king as a twig on the surface of the water.	Зникне у Самарії цар її, як піна на поверхні води.
8	8
And the altars of On, the sins of Israel, shall be taken away: thorns and thistles shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.	І знищені будуть висоти Авена, гріх Ізраїля; терня і бур’яни виростуть на жертовниках їхніх, і скажуть вони горам: «покрийте нас», і пагорбам: «упадіть на нас».
9	9
From the time the hills existed Israel has sinned: there they stood: war waged against the children of iniquity	Більше, ніж у дні Гиви, грішив ти, Ізраїлю; там вони встояли; війна у Гаваоні проти синів нечестя не торкнулася їх.
10	10
to chastise them shall not overtake them on the hill, the nations shall be gathered against them, when they are chastened for their two sins.	За бажанням Моїм покараю їх, і зберуться проти них народи, і вони будуть зв’язані за подвійний злочин їх.
11	11
Ephraim is a heifer taught to love victory, but I will come upon the fairest part of her neck: I will mount Ephraim; I will pass over Juda in silence; Jacob shall prevail against him.	Єфрем — навчена телиця, що звикла до молотьби, і Я Сам накладу ярмо на жирну шию його; на Єфремі будуть верхи їздити, Іуда буде орати, Яків буде боронити.
12	12
Sow to yourselves for righteousness, gather in for the fruit of life: light ye for yourselves the light of knowledge; seek the Lord till the fruits of righteousness come upon you.	Сійте собі у правду, і пожнете милість; розорюйте у себе новину, бо час знайти Господа, щоб Він, коли прийде, дощем пролив на вас правду.
13	13
Wherefore have ye passed over ungodliness in silence, and reaped the sins of it? ye have eaten false fruit; for thou hast trusted in thy sins, in the abundance of thy power.	Ви обробляли нечестя, пожинаєте беззаконня, їсте плід неправди, тому що ти надіявся на путь твій, на безліч ратників твоїх.
14	14
Therefore shall destruction rise up among thy people, and all thy strong places shall be ruined: as prince Solomon departed out of the house of Jeroboam, in the days of battle they dashed the mother to the ground upon the children,	І станеться сум’яття у народі твоєму, і всі твердині твої будуть зруйновані, як Салман зруйнував Бет-Арбел у день брані: мати була вбита з дітьми.
15	15
thus will I do to you, O house of Israel, because of the unrighteousness of your sins.	Ось що заподіє вам Вефиль за крайнє нечестя ваше.
Chapter 11	Глава 11

1	1
Early in the morning were they cast off, the king of Israel has been cast off: for Israel is a child, and I loved him, and out of Egypt have I called his children.	На зорі загине цар Ізраїлів! Коли Ізраїль був юний, Я любив його і з Єгипту викликав сина Мого.
2	2
As I called them, so they departed from my presence: they sacrificed to Baalim, and burnt incense to graven images.	Кликали їх, а вони йшли геть від лиця їх: приносили жертву Ваалам і кадили ідолам.
3	3
Yet I bound the feet of Ephraim, I took him on my arm; but they knew not that I healed them.	Я Сам привчав Єфрема ходити, носив його на руках Своїх, а вони не усвідомлювали, що Я лікував їх.
4	4
When men were destroyed, I drew them with the bands of my love: and I will be to them as a man smiting another on his cheek: and I will have respect to him, I will prevail with him.	Путами людськими тягнув Я їх, путами любови, і був для них ніби той, хто піднімає ярмо з щелеп їхніх, і ласкаво підкладав їжу їм.

Ephraim dwelt in Egypt; and as for the Assyrian, he was his king, because he would not return.	Не повернеться він у Єгипет, але Ассур — він буде царем його, тому що вони не захотіли навернутися до Мене.
6	6
And in his cities he prevailed not with the sword, and he ceased to war with his hands: and they shall eat of the fruit of their own devices:	І впаде меч на міста його, і знищить засуви його, і пожере їх за наміри їхні.

and his people shall cleave fondly to their habitation; but God shall be angry with his precious things, and shall not at all exalt him.	Народ Мій заскнів у відпадінні від Мене, і хоч закликають його до горнього, він не підноситься єдинодушно.
8	8
How shall I deal with thee, Ephraim? how shall I protect thee, Israel? what shall I do with thee? I will make thee as Adama, and as Seboim; my heart is turned at once, my repentance is powerfully excited.	Що зроблю з тобою, Єфреме? як віддам тебе, Ізраїлю? Чи вчиню з тобою, як з Адамою, чи зроблю тобі, що Севоїму? Повернулося у Мені серце Моє, запалала вся жалість Моя!

I will not act according to the fury of my wrath, I will not abandon Ephraim to be utterly destroyed: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One within thee: and I will not enter into the city.	Не зроблю за люттю гніву Мого, не знищу Єфрема, бо Я Бог, а не людина; серед тебе Святий; Я не ввійду в місто.
10	10
I will go after the Lord: he shall utter his voice as a lion: for he shall roar, and the children of the waters shall be amazed.	Слідом за Господом підуть вони; як лев, Він дасть голос Свій, дасть голос Свій, і попрямують до Нього сини з заходу,
11	11
They shall be amazed and fly as a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of the Assyrians: and I will restore them to their houses, saith the Lord.	попрямують з Єгипту, як птахи, й із землі Ассирійської, як голуби, і вселю їх у доми їхні, — говорить Господь.
Chapter 12	Глава 12

1	1
Ephraim has compassed me with falsehood, and the house of Israel and Juda with ungodliness: but now God knows them, and they shall be called God's holy people.	Єфрем пасе вітер і ганяється за східним вітром, щодня примножує неправду і руйнування; укладають вони союз з Ассуром, і в Єгипет відвозиться єлей.
2	2
But Ephraim is an evil spirit, he has chased the east wind all the day: he has multiplied empty and vain things, and made a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil has gone in the way of traffic into Egypt.	Але і з Іудою у Господа суд і Він відвідає Якова за шляхами його, воздасть йому за ділами його.
3	3
And the Lord has a controversy with Juda, in order to punish Jacob: according to his ways and according to his practices will he recompense him.	Ще в утробі матері зупиняв він брата свого, а змужнівши, боровся з Богом.
4	4
He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and in his labours he had power with God.	Він боровся з ангелом — і переміг; плакав і благав Його; у Вефилі Він знайшов нас і там говорив з нами.
5	5
And he prevailed with the angel and was strong: they wept, and intreated me: they found me in the house of On, and there a word was spoken to them.	А Господь є Бог Саваоф; Сущий [Ієгова] — ім’я Його.
6	6
But the Lord God Almighty shall be his memorial.	Навернися і ти до Бога твого; пильнуй милість і суд і уповай на Бога твого завжди.
7	7
Thou therefore shalt return to thy God: keep thou mercy and judgment, and draw nigh to thy God continually.	Хананеянин із невірними терезами у руці любить кривдити;
8	8
As for Chanaan, in his hand is a balance of unrighteousness: he has loved to tyrannise.	і Єфрем говорить: «однак я розбагатів; зібрав собі майна, хоч у всіх моїх трудах не знайдуть нічого незаконного, що було б гріхом».
9	9
And Ephraim said, Nevertheless I am rich, I have found refreshment to myself. None of his labours shall be found available to him, by reason of the sins which he has committed.	А Я, Господь Бог твій від самої землі Єгипетської, знову оселю тебе у кущах, як у дні свята.
10	10
But I the Lord thy God brought thee up out of the land of Egypt: I will yet cause thee to dwell in tabernacles, according to the days of the feast.	Я говорив до пророків, і примножував видіння, і через пророків уживав притчі.
11	11
And I will speak to the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and by the means of the prophets I was represented.	Якщо Галаад зробився Авеном, то вони стали суєтні, у Галгалах заколювали у жертву тельців, і жертовники їхні стояли, як купа каміння на межах поля.
12	12
If Galaad exists not, then the chiefs in Galaad when they sacrificed were false, and their altars were as heaps on the ground of the field.	Утік Яків на поля сирійські, і служив Ізраїль за дружину, і за дружину стеріг овець.

And Jacob retreated into the plain of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and waited for a wife.	Через пророка вивів Господь Ізраїля з Єгипту, і через пророка Він охороняв його.

And the Lord brought Israel out of the land of Egypt by a prophet, and by a prophet was he preserved.	Сильно роздратував Єфрем Господа і за те кров його залишить на ньому, і ганьбу його оберне Господь на нього.

Ephraim was angry and excited, therefore his blood shall be poured out upon him, and the Lord shall recompense to him his reproach.
Chapter 13	Глава 13

1	1
According to the word of Ephraim he adopted ordinances for himself in Israel; and he established them for Baal, and died.	Коли Єфрем говорив, усі тремтіли. Він був високим в Ізраїлі; але став винним через Ваала, і загинув.
2	2
And now they have sinned increasingly, and have made for themselves a molten image of their silver, according to the fashion of idols, the work of artificers accomplished for them: they say, Sacrifice men, for the calves have come to an end.	І нині додали вони до гріха: зробили для себе відлитих ідолів зі срібла свого, за розумінням своїм, — повністю робота художників, — і говорять вони людям, які приносять жертву: «цілуйте тельців!»

Therefore shall they be as a morning cloud, and as the early dew that passes away, as chaff blown away from the threshing-floor, and as a vapour from tears.	За те вони будуть як ранковий туман, як роса, що скоро зникає, як полова, що звівається із току, і як дим із труби.

But I am the Lord thy God that establishes the heaven, and creates the earth, whose hands have framed the whole host of heaven: but I shewed them not to thee that thou shouldest go after them: and I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no God but me; and there is no Saviour beside me.	Але Я — Господь Бог твій від землі Єгипетської, — і ти не повинен знати іншого бога, крім Мене, і немає спасителя, крім Мене.
5	5
I tended thee as a shepherd in the wilderness, in an uninhabited land.	Я визнав тебе у пустелі, у землі спраглій.
6	6
According to their pastures, so they were completely filled; and their hearts were exalted; therefore they forgot me.	Маючи пасовища, вони були ситі; а коли насичувалися, то підносилося серце їх, і тому вони забували Мене.
7	7
And I will be to them as a panther, and as a leopard.	І Я буду для них як лев, як скимен буду підстерігати при дорозі.
8	8
I will meet them by the way of the Assyrians, as a she-bear excited, and I will rend the caul of their heart, and the lions' whelps of the thicket shall devour them there; the wild beasts of the field shall rend them in pieces.	Буду нападати на них, як позбавлена дітей ведмедиця, і роздирати вмістилище серця їх, і поїдати їх там, як левиця; польові звірі будуть терзати їх.
9	9
O Israel, who will aid thee in thy destruction?	Погубив ти себе, Ізраїлю, бо тільки у Мені опора твоя.
10	10
Where is this thy king? let him even save thee in all thy cities: let him judge thee, of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and a prince.	Де цар твій тепер? Нехай він спасе тебе у всіх містах твоїх! Де судді твої, про яких говорив ти: «дай нам царя і начальників»?
11	11
And I gave thee a king in mine anger, and kept him back in my wrath.	І Я дав тобі царя у гніві Моєму, і відібрав у обуренні Моєму.
12	12
Ephraim has framed a conspiracy of unrighteousness, his sin is hidden.	Зв’язано у вузол беззаконня Єфрема, збережений його гріх.
13	13
Pains as of a woman in travail shall come upon him: he is thy wise son, because he shall not stay in the destruction of thy children.	Му́ки тієї, яка народжує, осягнуть його; він — син нерозумний, інакше не стояв би довго у становищі дітей, які народжуються.
14	14
I will deliver them out of the power of Hades, and will redeem them from death: where is thy penalty, O death? O Hades, where is thy sting? comfort is hidden from mine eyes.	Від влади пекла Я відкуплю їх, від смерти визволю їх. Смерте! де твоє жало? пекло! де твоя перемога? Розкаяння у тому не буде у Мене.
15	15
Forasmuch as he will cause a division among his brethren, the Lord shall bring upon him an east wind from the desert, and shall dry up his veins and quite drain his fountains: he shall dry up his land, and spoil all his precious vessels.	Хоч Єфрем плідливий між братами, але прийде східний вітер, підніметься вітер Господній із пустелі, і висохне джерело його, і вичерпається джерело його; він спустошить скарбницю всіх дорогоцінних сосудів.
Chapter 14	Глава 14

1	1
Samaria shall be utterly destroyed: for she has resisted her God; they shall fall by the sword, and their sucklings shall be dashed against the ground, and their women with child ripped up.	Спустошена буде Самарія, тому що повстала проти Бога свого; від меча впадуть вони; немовлята їхні будуть розбиті, і вагітні їхні будуть розсічені.

Return, O Israel, to the Lord thy God; for the people have fallen through thine iniquities.	Навернися, Ізраїлю, до Господа Бога твого; бо ти упав від нечестя твого.
3	3
Take with you words, and turn to the Lord your God: speak to him, that ye may not receive the reward of unrighteousness, but that ye may receive good things: and we will render in return the fruit of our lips.	Візьміть із собою молитовні слова і зверніться до Господа; говоріть Йому: «відніми всяке беззаконня і прийми на благо, і ми принесемо жертву вуст наших.

Assur shall never save us; we will not mount on horseback; we will no longer say to the works of our hands, Our gods. He who is in thee shall pity the orphan.	Ассур не буде вже спасати нас; не будемо сідати на коня і не будемо більше говорити виробові рук наших: боги наші; тому що у Тебе милосердя для сиріт».
5	5
I will restore their dwellings, I will love them truly: for he has turned away my wrath from him.	Вилікую відпадіння їх, полюблю їх з благовоління; бо гнів Мій відвернувся від них.
6	6
I will be as dew to Israel: he shall bloom as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Libanus.	Я буду росою для Ізраїля; він розцвіте, як лілея, і пустить корені свої, як Ливан.
7	7
His branches shall spread, and he shall be as a fruitful olive, and his smell shall be as the smell of Libanus.	Розростуться гілки його, і буде краса його, як маслини, і пахощі від нього, як від Ливану.
8	8
They shall return, and dwell under his shadow: they shall live and be satisfied with corn, and he shall flower as a vine: his memorial shall be to Ephraim as the wine of Libanus.	Повернуться ті, що сиділи під тінню його, будуть мати вдосталь хліба, і розцвітуть, як виноградна лоза, славні будуть, як вино ливанське.

What has he to do any more with idols? I have afflicted him, and I will strengthen him: I am as a leafy juniper tree. From me is thy fruit found.	«Що мені ще за діло до ідолів?» — скаже Єфрем. — Я почую його і спогляну на нього; Я буду як зелений кипарис; від Мене будуть тобі плоди.

Who is wise, and will understand these things? or prudent, and will know them? for the ways of the Lord are straight, and the righteous shall walk in them: but the ungodly shall fall therein.	Хто мудрий, щоб розуміти це? хто розумний, щоб пізнати це? Бо праві путі Господні, і праведники ходять по них, а беззаконні впадуть на них.
