And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth.	І Слово стало плоттю, і вселилося між нами, повне благодаті й істини; і ми бачили славу Його, славу, як Єдинородного від Отця.

John beareth witness of him, and crieth, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that cometh after me is become before me: for he was before me.	Іоан свідчить про Нього і голосно каже: це Той, про Кого я говорив; Той, Хто йде за мною, став попереду мене, бо раніше від мене був.

And of his fullness we all received, and grace for grace.	І від повноти Його ми всі прийняли і благодать на благодать,

And he confessed, and denied not; and he confessed, I am not the Christ.	Він визнав, і не зрікся, і визнав, що: я — не Христос.

He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet.	Він сказав: я глас вопіющого в пустелі; приготуйте путь Господеві, як сказав Ісая пророк.

And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.	А посланці були від фарисеїв.

And they asked him, and said unto him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Christ, neither Elijah, neither the prophet?	І вони запитали його і сказали йому: що ж ти хрестиш, якщо ти не є Христос, ні Ілля, ні пророк?

John answered them, saying, I baptize in water: but in the midst of you standeth one whom ye know not,	Іоан сказав їм у відповідь: я хрещу водою; але серед вас стоїть Той, Кого ви не знаєте;

he it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to unloose.	Він гряде за мною, але переді мною був; я недостойний розв’язати ремінь взуття Його.

These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.	Це сталося у Вифаварі по той бік Йордану, де хрестив Іоан.

And John bare witness, saying, I have beheld the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven; and it abode upon him.	І свідчив Іоан, кажучи: я бачив Духа, Який сходив з неба, мов голуб, і перебував на Ньому.

And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize in water, he said unto me, Upon whomsoever thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and abiding upon him, the same is he that baptizeth in the Holy Spirit.	Я не знав Його; але Той, Хто послав мене хрестити водою, сказав мені: на Кому побачиш Духа, Який сходить і перебуває на Ньому, Той хреститиме Духом Святим.

And I have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.	І я бачив і засвідчив, що Цей є Син Божий.

Again on the morrow John was standing, and two of his disciples;	Наступного дня знову стояв Іоан з двома з його учнів.

and he looked upon Jesus as he walked, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God!	І, побачивши Ісуса, Який ішов, сказав: ось Агнець Божий.

And Jesus turned, and beheld them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? And they said unto him, Rabbi (which is to say, being interpreted, Teacher), where abidest thou? Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!	Ісус, побачивши Нафанаїла, який ішов до Нього, говорить про нього: ось воістину ізраїльтянин, у якому нема лукавства.

Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.	Нафанаїл говорить Йому: звідки Ти мене знаєш? Ісус відповів йому: перше ніж покликав тебе Филип, Я бачив тебе під смоковницею.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee underneath the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.	Ісус сказав йому у відповідь: через те, що Я сказав тобі, що бачив тебе під смоковницею, ти віруєш; більше цього побачиш.

And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see the heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man. Chapter 2	Глава 2

And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:	На третій день було весілля в Кані галилейській, і Мати Ісусова була там.

and Jesus also was bidden, and his disciples, to the marriage.	Був також запрошений на весілля Ісус з учениками Його.

And when the wine failed, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.	Коли не вистачило вина, Мати Ісуса каже Йому: вина не мають.

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.	Ісус говорить Їй: що Мені і Тобі, Жоно? Ще не прийшов час Мій.

His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.	Мати Його говорить слугам: що скаже Він вам, те зробіть.

Now there were six waterpots of stone set there after the Jews’ manner of purifying, containing two or three firkins apiece.	Було ж тут шість кам’яних водоносів, що стояли за звичаєм для очищення юдейського, кожен вміщав по дві чи по три міри.

Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.	Ісус говорить їм: наповніть посудини водою. І наповнили їх до верху.

And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the ruler of the feast. And they bare it.	І говорить їм: тепер зачерпніть і несіть до розпорядника весілля. І понесли.

And when the ruler of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and knew not whence it was (but the servants that had drawn the water knew), the ruler of the feast calleth the bridegroom,	Коли ж розпорядник покуштував воду, що стала вином [а він не знав, звідки це вино, знали ж тільки слуги, які набирали воду], тоді розпорядник кличе жениха

and saith unto him, Every man setteth on first the good wine; and when men have drunk freely, then that which is worse: thou hast kept the good wine until now.	і говорить йому: кожна людина спочатку добре вино подає, а коли нап’ються, тоді гірше; а ти добре вино зберіг аж досі.

This the beginning of his signs did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed on him.	Так поклав Ісус початок чудесам у Кані галилейській і явив славу Свою; і увірували в Нього ученики Його.

After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples; and there they abode not many days.	Після цього прийшов Ісус до Капернаума, Сам і Мати Його, і брати Його, і ученики Його; і пробули там небагато днів.

And the passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.	Наближалася Пасха юдейська, і Ісус прийшов до Єрусалима.

And he found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:	І знайшов, що в храмі продавали волів, овець і голубів, і сиділи міняльники грошей.

and he made a scourge of cords, and cast all out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen; and he poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew their tables;	І, зробивши бич з вірьовок, вигнав з храму всіх, овець і волів; і розсипав гроші міняльників, а столи їхні поперекидав.

and to them that sold the doves he said, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house a house of merchandise.	І сказав продавцям голубів: візьміть це звідси і не робіть дому Отця Мого домом торгівлі.

And his disciples remembered that it was written, Zeal for thy house shall eat me up.	При цьому ученики Його згадали, що написано: ревність до дому Твого з’їдає Мене.

The Jews therefore answered and said unto him, What sign showest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?	На це юдеї сказали Йому: яке знамення покажеш нам, що маєш владу так чинити?

Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.	Ісус сказав їм у відповідь: зруйнуйте храм цей, і Я за три дні поставлю його.

The Jews therefore said, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou raise it up in three days?	На це сказали юдеї: сорок шість років будувався храм цей, а Ти за три дні поставиш його?

But he spake of the temple of his body.	Він же говорив про храм тіла Свого.

When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he spake this; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.	Коли ж Він воскрес з мертвих, то згадали ученики Його, що Він казав їм це, і повірили Писанню і слову, яке сказав Ісус.

Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, during the feast, many believed on his name, beholding his signs which he did.	І коли Він був у Єрусалимі на святі Пасхи, багато хто увірував в ім’я Його, побачивши чудеса, які Він творив.

But Jesus did not trust himself unto them, for that he knew all men,	Але Сам Ісус не ввіряв Себе їм, бо знав усіх;

and because he needed not that anyone should bear witness concerning man; for he himself knew what was in man.	і не треба було Йому, щоб хтось засвідчив про людину, бо Сам знав, що було в людині.
Chapter 3	Глава 3

Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:	Був же чоловік з фарисеїв на ім’я Никодим, начальник юдейський.

the same came unto him by night, and said to him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that thou doest, except God be with him.	Він уночі прийшов до Ісуса і сказав Йому: Учителю, ми знаємо, що Ти Учитель, Який прийшов від Бога; бо ніхто не може таких чудес творити, які Ти твориш, якби Бог не був з ним.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except one be born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God.	Ісус сказав йому у відповідь: істинно, істинно кажу тобі: якщо хто не народиться звище, не може бачити Царства Божого.

Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?	Никодим говорить Йому: як може людина народитися, будучи старою? Хіба вона може вдруге ввійти в утробу матері своєї і народитися?

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except one be born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.	Ісус відповів: істинно, істинно кажу тобі: якщо хто не народиться водою і Духом, не може увійти в Царство Боже.

That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.	Народжене від плоті є плоть, а народжене від Духа є дух.

Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born anew.	Не дивуйся тому, що Я сказав тобі; треба вам народитися звище.

The wind bloweth where it will, and thou hearest the voice thereof, but knowest not whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is everyone that is born of the Spirit.	Дух дише де хоче, і голос його чуєш, але не знаєш, звідки він приходить і куди йде: так буває з кожною людиною, народженою від Духа.

Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?	Никодим сказав Йому у відповідь: як це може бути?

Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou the teacher of Israel, and understandest not these things?	Ісус відповів йому і сказав: ти — учитель Ізраїлів, і чи цього не знаєш?

Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that which we know, and bear witness of that which we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.	Істинно, істинно кажу тобі: Ми говоримо про те, що знаємо, і свідчимо про те, що бачили, а ви свідчення Нашого не приймаєте.

If I told you earthly things and ye believe not, how shall ye believe if I tell you heavenly things?	Якщо Я сказав вам про земне і ви не вірите, то як повірите, коли буду говорити вам про небесне?

And no one hath ascended into heaven, but he that descended out of heaven, even the Son of man, who is in heaven.	Ніхто не сходив на небо, тільки Той, Хто зійшов з небес, Син Людський, Сущий на небесах.

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up;	І як Мойсей підніс змія в пустелі, так належить піднестися Синові Людському,

that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.	щоб кожен, хто вірує в Нього, не загинув, але мав життя вічне.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.	Бо так полюбив Бог світ, що віддав і Сина Свого Єдинородного, щоб усякий, хто вірує в Нього, не загинув, а мав життя вічне.

For God sent not his Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through him.	Бо не послав Бог Сина Свого в світ, щоб судити світ, а щоб світ спасся через Нього.

He that believeth on him is not judged: but he that believeth not hath been judged already, because he hath not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God.	Хто вірує в Нього, не буде осуджений, а хто не вірує, вже осуджений, бо не увірував в ім’я Єдинородного Сина Божого.

And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil.	Суд полягає в тому, що світло прийшло у світ, а люди полюбили темряву більше, ніж світло, бо діла їхні були лихі;

For everyone that doeth evil hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, lest his works should be reproved.	бо кожен, хто чинить зло, ненавидить світло і не йде до світла, щоб не викрилися діла його, бо вони злі.

But he that doeth the truth cometh to the light, that his works may be made manifest, that they have been wrought in God.	А хто чинить правду, йде до світла, щоб відкрилися діла його, бо вони чинилися в Бозі.

After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.	Після цього прийшов Ісус з учениками Своїми в Юдейську землю, і там жив з ними і хрестив.

And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salem, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.	Іоан же хрестив в Еноні, поблизу Салима, бо там було багато води; і приходили туди, і хрестилися,

For John was not yet cast into prison.	бо Іоан ще не був посаджений до в’язниці.

There arose therefore a questioning on the part of John’s disciples with a Jew about purifying.	Тоді виникла суперечка учнів Іоанових з юдеями про очищення.

And they came unto John, and said to him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond the Jordan, to whom thou hast borne witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.	І прийшли до Іоана і сказали йому: учителю! Той, Який був з тобою по той бік Йордану, про Якого ти свідчив, ось Він хрестить, і всі йдуть до Нього.

John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it have been given him from heaven.	Іоан сказав у відповідь: не може людина приймати на себе нічого, якщо не буде дано їй з неба.

Ye yourselves bear witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but, that I am sent before him.	Ви самі мені свідчите про те, що я сказав: я не Христос, але я посланий перед Ним.

He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, that standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is made full.	Хто має наречену, той жених, а друг жениха, стоячи і слухаючи його, радістю радіє, чуючи голос жениха. Отже, ця радість моя сповнилася.

He must increase, but I must decrease.	Йому належить рости, а мені умалятися.

He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is of the earth, and of the earth he speaketh: he that cometh from heaven is above all.	Хто приходить згори, Той над усіма є, хто від землі — земний є і по-земному говорить. Хто з неба йде, Той над усіма є.

And what he hath seen and heard, of that he beareth witness; and no man receiveth his witness.	І що Він бачив і чув, про те й свідчить; і свідчення Його ніхто не приймає.

He that hath received his witness hath set his seal to this, that God is true.	Хто прийняв Його свідчення, той ствердив, що Бог є істинний.

For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure.	Бо Той, Кого послав Бог, говорить слова Божі; бо без міри дає Бог Духа.

The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.	Отець любить Сина і все дав у руки Йому.

He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life; but he that obeyeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.	Хто вірує в Сина, має життя вічне, а хто не вірує в Сина, не побачить життя, але гнів Божий перебуває на ньому.
Chapter 4	Глава 4

When therefore the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John	Коли ж Ісус довідався про почуте фарисеями, що Ісус більше збирає учеників і хрестить, ніж Іоан, —

(although Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples),	хоч Ісус Сам не хрестив, а ученики Його, —

he left Judea, and departed into Galilee.	то залишив Юдею і знову пішов до Галилеї.

And he must needs pass through Samaria.	Належало ж Йому проходити через Самарію.

So he cometh to a city of Samaria, called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph:	Ось приходить Він до міста самарянського, що зветься Сихар, поблизу землі, яку Яків дав синові своєму Йосифу.

and Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.	Була там криниця Якова. Ісус, утомившись з дороги, сів біля криниці, а було близько шостої години.

There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.	Приходить жінка з Самарії набрати води. Ісус говорить їй: дай Мені напитися.

For his disciples were gone away into the city to buy food.	Бо ученики Його пішли до міста, щоб купити їжі.

The Samaritan woman therefore saith unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, who am a Samaritan woman? (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)	Жінка-самарянка каже Йому: як Ти, будучи юдеєм, просиш напитися у мене, самарянки? Адже юдеї не знаються з самарянами.

Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.	Ісус сказав їй у відповідь: якби ти знала дар Божий і Хто говорить тобі: дай Мені напитися, — то ти попросила б у Нього, і Він дав би тобі води живої.

Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his sons, and his cattle?	Невже Ти більший за отця нашого Якова, який дав нам криницю оцю і сам з неї пив, і діти його, і худоба його?

Jesus answered and said unto her, Everyone that drinketh of this water shall thirst again:	Ісус сказав їй у відповідь: всякий, хто п’є цю воду, знову буде спраглим.

but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up unto eternal life.	А хто питиме воду, яку дам Я йому, той не буде спраглим повік; але вода, яку дам йому Я, стане в ньому джерелом води, що тече в життя вічне.

The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.	Говорить Йому жінка: Господи, дай мені цієї води, щоб я не хотіла пити і не приходила сюди черпати.

Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.	Ісус говорить їй: іди поклич чоловіка свого і приходь сюди.

The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus saith unto her, Thou saidst well, I have no husband:	Жінка сказала Йому у відповідь: не маю я чоловіка. Говорить їй Ісус: правду сказала, що чоловіка не маєш,

for thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: this hast thou said truly.	бо п’ять чоловіків мала, і той, кого маєш тепер, не чоловік тобі; це ти правду сказала.

The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.	Жінка говорить Йому: Господи, бачу, що Ти пророк.

Our fathers worshiped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.	Батьки наші поклонялися на цій горі, а ви говорите, що місце, де належить поклонятися, знаходиться в Єрусалимі.

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall ye worship the Father.	Ісус говорить їй: жінко, повір Мені, що надходить час, коли будете поклонятись Отцеві, і не на цій горі, і не в Єрусалимі.

Ye worship that which ye know not: we worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews.	Ви кланяєтеся тому, чого не знаєте, а ми кланяємося тому, що знаємо, бо спасіння — від юдеїв.

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth: for such doth the Father seek to be his worshipers.	Але прийде час, і нині вже є, коли справжні поклонники кланятимуться Отцеві духом та істиною, бо таких поклонників шукає Отець Собі.

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship in spirit and truth.	Бог є Дух, і тим, що поклоняються Йому, належить поклонятися духом та істиною.

The woman saith unto him, I know that Messiah cometh (he that is called Christ): when he is come, he will declare unto us all things.	Жінка говорить Йому: знаю, що прийде Месія, званий Христос; коли Він прийде, сповістить нам усе.

Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.	Ісус сказав їй: це Я, Який розмовляю з тобою.

And upon this came his disciples; and they marveled that he was speaking with a woman; yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why speakest thou with her?	В цей час прийшли ученики Його і здивувалися, що Він розмовляє з жінкою; проте ніхто не сказав: чого Тобі треба? Або: про що говориш з нею?

So the woman left her waterpot, and went away into the city, and saith to the people,	Тоді жінка залишила свій водонос, пішла до міста і сказала людям:

Come, see a man, who told me all things that ever I did: can this be the Christ?	ідіть, побачите Чоловіка, Який сказав мені про все, що я зробила; чи не Він Христос?

They went out of the city, and were coming to him.	Вони вийшли з міста і пішли до Нього.

And in the meanwhile the disciples prayed him, saying, Rabbi, eat.	Тим часом ученики просили Його, кажучи: Учителю, їж.

But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not.	Він же сказав їм: Я маю їжу, якої ви не знаєте.

The disciples therefore said one to another, Hath any man brought him aught to eat?	Тому ученики говорили між собою: хіба хто приніс Йому їсти?

Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to accomplish his work.	Ісус говорить їм: Моя їжа є творити волю Того, Хто послав Мене, і звершити діло Його.

Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh the harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white already unto harvest.	Чи не кажете ви, що ще чотири місяці, і настануть жнива? А Я говорю вам: зведіть очі ваші і погляньте на ниви, як вони пополовіли і готові до жнив.

And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal; that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.	Хто жне, той одержує нагороду і збирає плід у життя вічне, щоб і сівач, і жнець разом раділи.

For herein is verified the true saying, One soweth, and another reapeth.	Бо про це є правдиве слово: один сіє, а інший жне.

I sent you to reap that whereon ye have not labored: others have labored, and ye are entered into their labor.	Я послав вас жати те, над чим ви не працювали: інші працювали, а ви ввійшли в їхню працю.

And from that city many of the Samaritans believed on him because of the word of the woman, who testified, He told me all things that ever I did.	І багато самарян з міста того увірували в Нього за словом жінки, яка засвідчила, що Він сказав їй про все, що вона зробила.

So when the Samaritans came unto him, they besought him to abide with them: and he abode there two days.	І тому, коли прийшли до Нього самаряни, то просили Його побути в них; і Він пробув там два дні.

and they said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy speaking: for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Savior of the world, the Christ.	А жінці тій говорили: вже не через твої слова віруємо, бо самі чули і знаємо, що Він істинно Спаситель світу, Христос.

And after the two days he went forth from thence, and went away into Galilee.	Як минуло ж два дні, Він вийшов звідти і пішов до Галилеї,

For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honor in his own country.	бо Сам Ісус свідчив, що пророк у своїй батьківщині не має чести.

So when he came into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things that he did in Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.	Коли Він прийшов до Галилеї, то галилеяни прийняли Його, побачивши все, що Він зробив в Єрусалимі під час свята, бо і вони ходили на свято.

Jesus came therefore again unto Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.	Отже, Ісус знову прийшов до Кани галилейської, де перетворив воду на вино. Був у Капернаумі царедворець, у якого син був хворий.

When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son; for he was at the point of death. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus spake unto him, and he went his way.	Ісус каже йому: іди, син твій живий. І повірив чоловік слову, яке сказав йому Ісус, і пішов.

And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.	Одразу, як тільки він входив, зустріли його слуги його і сказали: син твій живий.

So he inquired of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.	Він спитав у них: о котрій годині стало йому легше? Йому сказали: вчора о сьомій годині покинула його гарячка.

So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.	Зрозумів батько, що це був саме той час, коли Ісус сказав йому: син твій живий, і увірував сам і весь дім його.

This is again the second sign that Jesus did, having come out of Judea into Galilee.	Це вже друге чудо сотворив Ісус, повернувшись з Юдеї в Галилею.
Chapter 5	Глава 5

After these things there was the feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.	Після цього було юдейське свято, і прийшов Ісус до Єрусалима.

Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porches.	В Єрусалимі ж біля Овечих воріт є купальня, що по-єврейськи зветься Вифезда, яка мала п’ять критих входів.

In these lay a great multitude of them that were sick, blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water:	У них лежало багато хворих, сліпих, кривих, сухих, що чекали руху води,

for an angel went down at certain seasons into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole, with whatsoever disease he was holden.	бо ангел Господній щороку сходив у купальню і збурював воду; і хто перший входив після збурення води, той одужував, хоч би яку недугу мав.

And a certain man was there, who had been thirty and eight years in his infirmity.	Тут був чоловік, який хворів тридцять вісім років.

When Jesus saw him lying, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wouldest thou be made whole?	Ісус, побачивши, що він лежить, і знаючи, що вже довго хворіє, говорить йому: чи хочеш бути здоровим?

The sick man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.	Недужий відповів Йому: так, Господи! Але людини не маю, щоб, коли збуриться вода, опустила мене в купальню; коли ж я приходжу, інший вже поперед мене входить.

Jesus saith unto him, Arise, take up thy bed, and walk.	Ісус говорить йому: встань, візьми постіль твою і ходи.

And straightaway the man was made whole, and took up his bed and walked. Now it was the sabbath on that day.	І він одразу одужав, взяв постіль свою і пішов. Була ж субота у той день.

So the Jews said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath: it is not lawful for thee to take up thy bed.	Тому юдеї говорили зціленому: сьогодні субота, і не слід було тобі брати постіль свою.

He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.	Він відповів їм: Хто зцілив мене, Той сказав мені: візьми постіль твою і ходи.

They asked him therefore, Who is the man that said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?	Його спитали: Хто Той Чоловік, Який сказав тобі: візьми постіль твою і ходи?

But he that was healed knew not who it was; for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in the place.	А зцілений не знав, хто Він, бо Ісус зник у натовпі, що був на тому місці.

Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing befall thee.	Потім Ісус зустрів його у храмі і сказав йому: ось ти одужав; не гріши більше, щоб з тобою не сталося чого гіршого.

The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him whole.	Чоловік цей пішов і сказав юдеям, що Той, Хто зцілив його, є Ісус.

And for this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill him, because he did these things on the sabbath.	І почали юдеї переслідувати Ісуса, і шукали, як Його вбити за те, що творив такі діла в суботу.

But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh even until now, and I work.	Ісус же говорив їм: Отець Мій донині робить, і Я роблю.

For this cause therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only brake the sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God.	Юдеї ще більше вишукували, як Його вбити за те, що Він не тільки порушував суботу, але й Отцем Своїм називав Бога, рівняючи Себе до Бога.

Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father doing: for what things soever he doeth, these the Son also doeth in like manner.	На це Ісус сказав: істинно, істинно говорю вам: Син нічого не може творити Сам від Себе, якщо не побачить, як творить Отець; бо, що Він творить, те так само творить і Син.

For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth him all things that himself doeth: and greater works than these will he show him, that ye may marvel.	Бо Отець любить Сина і показує Йому все, що Сам творить; і покаже Йому діла більші від цих, щоб ви дивувались.

For as the Father raiseth the dead and giveth them life, even so the Son also giveth life to whom he will.	Бо, як Отець воскрешає мертвих і оживляє, так і Син оживляє, кого хоче.

For neither doth the Father judge any man, but he hath given all judgment unto the Son;	Бо Отець не судить нікого, а весь суд віддав Синові,

that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honoreth not the Son honoreth not the Father that sent him.	щоб усі шанували Сина, як шанують Отця; а хто не шанує Сина, той не шанує і Отця, Який послав Його.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth him that sent me, hath eternal life, and cometh not into judgment, but hath passed out of death into life.	Істинно, істинно кажу вам: хто слово Моє слухає і вірить у Того, Хто послав Мене, той має вічне життя і на суд не приходить, а перейшов від смерти до життя.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour cometh, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live.	Істинно, істинно кажу вам, що настане час, і нині вже є, коли мертві почують голос Сина Божого і, почувши, оживуть.

For as the Father hath life in himself, even so gave he to the Son also to have life in himself:	Бо як Отець має життя в Самому Собі, так і Синові дав мати життя в Самому Собі.

and he gave him authority to execute judgment also, because he is a son of man.	І дав Йому владу суд творити, бо Він є Син Людський.

Marvel not at this: for the hour cometh, in which all that are in the tombs shall hear his voice,	Не дивуйтесь цьому, бо настає час, коли всі, хто в гробах, почують голос Сина Божого;

and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment.	і вийдуть ті, хто творив добро, у воскресіння життя, а ті, хто чинив зло, — у воскресіння суду.

I can of myself do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is righteous; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father that sent me.	Я нічого не можу творити Сам від Себе. Як чую, так і суджу, і суд Мій праведний; бо не шукаю Моєї волі, а волі Отця, Який послав Мене.

If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.	Коли Я свідчу Сам про Себе, то свідчення Моє не є істинне.

It is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.	Є інший, який свідчить про Мене; і Я знаю, що істинне те свідчення, яким він свідчить про Мене.

Ye have sent unto John, and he hath borne witness unto the truth.	Ви посилали до Іоана, і він засвідчив істину.

He was the lamp that burneth and shineth; and ye were willing to rejoice for a season in his light.	Він був світильник, який горів і світив; ви ж хотіли короткий час порадуватися при світлі його.

But the witness which I have is greater than that of John; for the works which the Father hath given me to accomplish, the very works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.	Я ж маю свідчення більше за Іоанове: бо діла, які Отець дав Мені звершити, саме ці діла, які Я творю, свідчать про Мене, що Отець Мене послав.

And the Father that sent me, he himself hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.	І Отець, Який послав Мене, Сам засвідчив про Мене. А ви ні голосу Його ніколи не чули, ні лиця Його ніколи не бачили;

And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he sent, him ye believe not.	і не маєте слова Його, яке перебувало б у вас; бо ви не віруєте в Того, Кого Він послав.

Ye search the scriptures, because ye think that in them ye have eternal life; and these are they which bear witness of me;	Дослідіть Писання, бо ви сподіваєтесь через них мати життя вічне; а вони свідчать про Мене.

and ye will not come to me, that ye may have life.	Але ви не хочете прийти до Мене, щоб мати життя.

I receive not glory from men.	Не приймаю слави від людей,

But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in yourselves.	але знаю вас: ви не маєте в собі любови до Бога.

I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.	Я прийшов в ім’я Отця Мого, і не приймаєте Мене; а коли інший прийде в ім’я своє, того приймете.

How can ye believe, who receive glory one of another, and the glory that cometh from the only God ye seek not?	Як ви можете вірувати, коли приймаєте славу один від одного, а слави, яка від Єдиного Бога, не шукаєте?

Think not that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, on whom ye have set your hope.	Не думайте, що Я буду звинувачувати вас перед Отцем: є той, хто вас звинувачує, — Мойсей, на якого ви уповаєте.

For if ye believed Moses, ye would believe me; for he wrote of me.	Бо якби ви вірили Мойсеєві, то повірили б і Мені, тому що він писав про Мене.

But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?	Якщо ж його Писанням не вірите, то як повірите Моїм словам?
Chapter 6	Глава 6

After these things Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias.	Після цього пішов Ісус на той бік Тиверіадського моря в Галилеї.

And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his signs which he did on them that were sick.	За Ним ішло багато народу, бо бачили чудеса, які Він творив над недужими.

And Jesus went up into the mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.	Ісус зійшов на гору і сидів там з учениками Своїми.

Now the passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.	Наближалася ж Пасха, юдейське свято.

Jesus therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude cometh unto him, saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?	Ісус, звівши очі і побачивши, що багато народу йде до Нього, говорить Филипові: за що нам купити хлібів, щоб їх нагодувати?

And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.	Говорив же це, випробовуючи його, бо Сам знав, що хотів зробити.

Philip answered him, Two hundred denarii’ worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take some little portion.	Филип відповів Йому: і на двісті динаріїв не вистачить хліба, щоб кожний з них хоч трохи одержав.

One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him,	Один з учеників Його, Андрій, брат Симона-Петра, говорить Йому:

There is one lad here, who hath five barley loaves, and two fish: but what are these among so many?	тут є один юнак, який має п’ять хлібів ячмінних і дві рибини; але що то на таку безліч?

And Jesus said, Make the people sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.	Ісус сказав: звеліть людям сісти. Було ж на тому місці багато трави. Отже, сіло людей близько п’яти тисяч.

And Jesus took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; likewise also of the fish as much as they would.	Ісус, взявши хліби і воздавши хвалу, роздав ученикам, а ученики — тим, що сиділи, також і риби, скільки хто хотів.

And when they were filled, he saith unto his disciples, Gather up the broken pieces which remain over, that nothing be lost.	І коли наситилися, то сказав ученикам Своїм: зберіть залишки, щоб нічого не пропало.

So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which remained over unto them that had eaten.	І зібрали, і наповнили дванадцять кошиків залишками від п’яти ячмінних хлібів, що їли.

When therefore the people saw the sign which Jesus did, they said, This is of a truth the prophet that cometh into the world.	Тоді люди, побачивши, яке чудо сотворив Ісус, сказали: це воістину Той Пророк, Який має прийти у світ.

Jesus therefore perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force, to make him king, withdrew into the mountain himself alone.	Ісус же, дізнавшись, що хочуть прийти, несподівано взяти Його і зробити царем, знову пішов на гору один.

And when evening came, his disciples went down unto the sea;	Коли ж настав вечір, то ученики Його зійшли до моря.

and they entered into the boat, and were going over the sea unto Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.	І, сівши в човен, попливли на другий бік моря до Капернаума. Було вже темно, а Ісус не приходив до них.

And the sea was rising by reason of a great wind that blew.	Дув сильний вітер, і море хвилювалося.

When therefore they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they behold Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the boat: and they were afraid.	Пропливши стадій близько двадцяти п’яти чи тридцяти^*, вони побачили Ісуса, Який ішов по морю і вже наближався до човна, і злякались.

But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.	Але Він сказав їм: це Я, не бійтеся.

They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat: and straightaway the boat was at the land whither they were going.	Вони хотіли взяти Його в човен; і у ту ж мить човен пристав до берега, куди пливли.

On the morrow, when the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other little boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples had entered, and that Jesus entered not with his disciples into the little boat, but that his disciples went away alone	Наступного дня народ, який стояв по той бік моря, бачив, що іншого човна не було там, крім того, в який увійшли ученики Його, і що Ісус не входив у човен з учениками Своїми, а відпливли одні ученики Його.

(howbeit there came other little boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks):	Тим часом прийшли з Тиверіади інші човни до того місця, де їли хліб за благословенням Господнім.

when the multitude therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they themselves gat into the boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.	Коли ж люди побачили, що тут немає ні Ісуса, ні учеників Його, то посідали в човни і попливли до Капернаума, шукаючи Ісуса.

And when they found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?	І, знайшовши Його по той бік моря, сказали Йому: Учителю, коли Ти прибув сюди?

Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw signs, but because ye ate of the loaves, and were filled.	Ісус сказав їм у відповідь: істинно, істинно кажу вам: ви шукаєте Мене не тому, що бачили чудеса, а тому, що їли хліб і наситились.

Work not for the food which perisheth, but for the food which abideth unto eternal life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him the Father, even God, hath sealed.	Дбайте не про їжу тлінну, а про їжу, яка залишається на життя вічне, яку дасть вам Син Людський, бо назнаменував Його Отець, Бог.

They said therefore unto him, What must we do, that we may work the works of God?	Вони сказали Йому: що нам робити, щоб чинити діла Божі?

Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.	Ісус сказав їм у відповідь: ось діло Боже, щоб ви увірували в Того, Кого Він послав.

But I said unto you, that ye have seen me, and yet believe not.	Але Я вам сказав, що ви хоч і бачили Мене, та не віруєте.

All that which the Father giveth me shall come unto me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.	Усе, що дає Мені Отець, до Мене прийде; і того, хто приходить до Мене, Я не вижену геть.

For I am come down out of heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.	Бо Я зійшов з небес не для того, щоб творити волю Мою, а волю Отця, Який послав Мене.

And this is the will of the Father that sent me, that of all that which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.	Воля ж Отця, Який послав Мене, є та, щоб з усього, що Він дав Мені, нічого не погубити, а все те воскресити в останній день.

And this is the will of him that sent me, that everyone that beholdeth the Son, and believeth on him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.	Воля Того, Хто послав Мене, є та, щоб кожен, хто бачить Сина і вірує в Нього, мав життя вічне; і Я воскрешу його в останній день.

The Jews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, I am the bread which came down out of heaven.	Ремствували на Нього юдеї за те, що Він казав: Я є хліб, який зійшов з небес.

And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how then doth he say, I am come down out of heaven?	І говорили: чи це не Ісус, син Йосифів, батька і матір Якого ми знаємо? Як же говорить Він: Я зійшов з небес?

Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.	Ісус сказав їм у відповідь: не ремствуйте між собою.

No man can come to me, except the Father that sent me draw him: and I will raise him up in the last day.	Ніхто не може прийти до Мене, якщо Отець, Який послав Мене, не залучить його; і Я воскрешу його в останній день.

It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught of God. Everyone therefore that heareth from the Father, and hath learned, cometh unto me.	У пророків написано: і будуть усі навчені Богом. Кожен, хто чув Отця і навчився, приходить до Мене.

I am the living bread which came down out of heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever: yea and the bread which I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. The Jews therefore strove one with another, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?	Тоді юдеї почали сперечатися між собою, кажучи: як Він може дати нам Плоть Свою їсти?

Jesus therefore said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, ye have not life in yourselves.	Ісус же сказав їм: істинно, істинно кажу вам: якщо не будете споживати Плоті Сина Людського і не питимете Його Крови, то не будете мати життя в собі.

He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.	Хто їсть Мою Плоть і п’є Мою Кров, має життя вічне, і Я воскрешу його в останній день.

For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.	Бо Плоть Моя є істинною їжею, і Кров Моя є істинним питтям.

He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood abideth in me, and I in him.	Хто їсть Мою Плоть і п’є Мою Кров, в Мені перебуває, і Я в ньому.

As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he that eateth me, he also shall live because of me.	Як послав Мене Живий Отець, — і Я живу Отцем, — так і той, хто їсть Мене, житиме через Мене.

This is the bread which came down out of heaven: not as your fathers ate the manna, and died; he that eateth this bread shall live forever.	Цей і є хліб, який зійшов з небес. Не так, як батьки ваші їли манну і померли; хто їсть хліб цей, житиме повік.

What then if ye should behold the Son of man ascending where he was before?	А що ж, коли побачите Сина Людського, Який возноситься туди, де був раніш?

It is the spirit that giveth life; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you are spirit, and are life.	Дух оживляє; плоть аніскільки не допомагає.

But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who it was that should betray him.	Але є між вами деякі, що не вірують. Бо Ісус знав з самого початку, хто не вірує і хто зрадить Його.

And he said, For this cause have I said unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it be given unto him of my Father.	І сказав: Я для того і говорив вам, що ніхто не може прийти до Мене, якщо те не буде дано йому від Отця Мого.

Upon this many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.	Відтоді багато з учеників Його відійшли від Нього і вже з Ним не ходили.

Jesus said therefore unto the twelve, Would ye also go away?	Тоді Ісус сказав дванадцятьом: чи не хочете відійти і ви?

Chapter 7	Глава 7

And after these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.	Після цього Ісус ходив Галилеєю, бо не хотів ходити по Юдеї, тому що шукали юдеї, як вбити Його.

Now the feast of the Jews, the feast of tabernacles, was at hand.	Наближалося свято юдейське — ставлення кущів.

His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judea, that thy disciples also may behold thy works which thou doest.	Тоді брати Його сказали Йому: вийди звідси та іди до Юдеї, щоб і ученики Твої бачили діла, які Ти твориш.

For no man doeth anything in secret, and himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou doest these things, manifest thyself to the world.	Бо ніхто не робить щось таємно, коли сам домагається бути відомим. Якщо Ти твориш такі діла, яви Себе світові.

For even his brethren did not believe on him.	Бо і брати Його не вірували в Нього.

Jesus therefore saith unto them, My time is not yet come; but your time is always ready.	На це Ісус сказав їм: Мій час ще не настав, час же вам завжди готовий.

The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that its works are evil.	Не може світ ненавидіти вас, а Мене ненавидить, бо Я свідчу про нього, що діла його злі.

Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; because my time is not yet fulfilled.	Ви йдіть на свято це, а Я ще не піду на це свято, бо час Мій ще не настав.

And having said these things unto them, he abode still in Galilee.	Сказавши це їм, залишився в Галилеї.

But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not publicly, but as it were in secret.	Але коли брати Його прийшли на свято, тоді і Він прийшов, та не явно, а ніби таємно.

The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?	Юдеї ж шукали Його на святі і говорили: де Він?

And there was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him: some said, He is a good man: others said, Not so, but he leadeth the multitude astray.	І багато було розмов про Нього в народі. Одні говорили, що Він добрий, інші казали, що ні, Він зваблює народ.

Yet no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.	Проте ніхто не говорив про Нього відкрито, бо боялись юдеїв.

But when it was now the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.	У переполовення свята Ісус увійшов у храм і навчав.

And the Jews marveled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?	І дивувалися юдеї, кажучи: як Він знає Писання, не вчившись?

Jesus therefore answered them, and said, My teaching is not mine, but his that sent me.	Ісус сказав їм у відповідь: Моє вчення — не Моє, а Того, Хто послав Мене;

If any man willeth to do his will, he shall know of the teaching, whether it is of God, or whether I speak from myself.	хто хоче творити волю Його, той довідається про це вчення, чи воно від Бога, чи Я Сам від Себе кажу.

He that speaketh from himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh the glory of him that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.	Хто говорить сам від себе, той шукає слави собі, а Хто шукає слави Тому, Хто послав Його, Той є істинний, і неправди немає в Ньому.

Hath not Moses given you the law, and yet none of you doeth the law? Why seek ye to kill me?	Чи не дав вам Мойсей закон? І ніхто з вас не виконує закону. Чого ж шукаєте, як вбити Мене?

The multitude answered and said, Thou hast a demon: who seeketh to kill thee?	Народ сказав у відповідь: чи не біс у Тобі? Хто хоче Тебе вбити?

Jesus answered and said unto them, I did one work, and ye all marvel.	Ісус далі сказав їм: одне діло зробив Я, і ви всі дивуєтеся.

For this cause Moses hath given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers); and on the sabbath ye circumcise a man.	Мойсей дав вам обрізання [хоч воно не від Мойсея, а від отців], і в суботу ви обрізуєте чоловіка.

If a man receiveth circumcision on the sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken; are ye wroth with me, because I made a man every whit whole on the sabbath?	Якщо в суботу приймає чоловік обрізання, щоб не порушити закону Мойсеєвого, — то чому на Мене ремствуєте за те, що Я всього чоловіка зцілив у суботу?

Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.	Не судіть з вигляду, а судіть судом справедливим.

Some therefore of them of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill?	Тут деякі з єрусалимлян говорили: чи не Той це, Якого хочуть убити?

And lo, he speaketh openly, and they say nothing unto him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is indeed the Christ?	Ось Він говорить відкрито, і нічого не кажуть Йому; чи не переконалися начальники, що Він справді Христос?

Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when the Christ cometh, no one knoweth whence he is.	Але ж ми знаємо, звідки Він; Христос же, коли прийде, ніхто не знатиме, звідки Він.

Jesus therefore cried in the temple, teaching and saying, Ye both know me, and know whence I am; and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.	Тоді Ісус, навчаючи, голосно заговорив у храмі: і Мене знаєте, і знаєте звідки Я; і Я прийшов не Сам від Себе, але є істинний Той, Хто послав Мене, Якого ви не знаєте.

I know him; because I am from him, and he sent me.	Я ж знаю Його, бо Я від Нього, і Він послав Мене.

They sought therefore to take him: and no man laid his hand on him, because his hour was not yet come.	І хотіли схопити Його, але ніхто не наклав на Нього руки, бо ще не настав час Його.

But many of the multitude believed on him; and they said, When the Christ shall come, will he do more signs than these which this man hath done?	Багато ж з народу увірували в Нього і говорили: коли Христос прийде, невже створить більші чудеса, ніж Цей створив?

The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.	Фарисеї почули, що таке говорить про Нього народ, і послали фарисеї та первосвященики слуг схопити Його.

Jesus therefore said, Yet a little while am I with you, and I go unto him that sent me.	Ісус же сказав їм: ще недовго бути Мені з вами, і Я піду до Того, Хто Мене послав.

Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, ye cannot come.	Шукатимете Мене, і не знайдете; і де буду Я, туди ви не зможете прийти.

The Jews therefore said among themselves, Whither will this man go that we shall not find him? will he go unto the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?	При цьому юдеї говорили між собою: куди Він хоче йти, що ми не знайдемо Його? Чи не хоче Він іти в еллінське розсіяння і вчити еллінів?

What is this word that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me; and where I am, ye cannot come?	Що означають слова ці, які Він сказав: будете шукати Мене і не знайдете; і де Я буду, туди ви не зможете прийти?

Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink.	В останній же великий день свята стояв Ісус і голосно говорив: хто спраглий, нехай іде до Мене і п’є.

He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, from within him shall flow rivers of living water.	Хто вірує в Мене, у того, як сказано в Писанні, з утроби його потечуть ріки води живої.

But this spake he of the Spirit, whom they that believe on him were to receive: for the Holy Spirit was not yet given; because Jesus was not yet glorified.	Це сказав Він про Духа, Якого мали прийняти віруючі в ім’я Його; бо ще не було на них Духа Святого, оскільки Ісус ще не був прославлений.

Many of the multitude therefore, when they heard this word, said, This is of a truth the prophet.	Багато ж з народу, почувши ці слова, говорили: Він воістину пророк.

Others said, This is the Christ. Others said, What, doth the Christ come out of Galilee?	Інші говорили: Це Христос. А ще інші казали: хіба з Галилеї Христос прийде?

Hath not the scripture said that the Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?	Чи не сказано в Писанні, що Христос прийде з роду Давидового і з Вифлеєма, з того міста, звідки був Давид?

So there arose a division in the multitude because of him.	Отже, виникла в народі через Нього незгода.

And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.	Деякі з них хотіли схопити Його; але ніхто не наклав на Нього рук.

The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why did ye not bring him?	І слуги повернулися до первосвящеників і фарисеїв; і дорікали їм: чому не привели Його?

The officers answered, Never did man so speak, as this man speaketh.	Слуги відповіли: ніколи не говорила людина так, як Цей Чоловік.

The Pharisees therefore answered them, Are ye also led astray?	Фарисеї ж сказали їм: невже і ви спокусилися?

Hath any of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees?	Хіба увірував у Нього хтось з начальників або з фарисеїв?

But this multitude that knoweth not the law are accursed.	Але цей народ, що не знає закону, проклятий він.

Nicodemus saith unto them (he that came to him by night, being one of them),	Никодим, один з них, який приходив до Нього вночі, говорить їм:

Doth our law judge a man, except it first hear from him and know what he doeth?	хіба закон наш судить людину, якщо раніше не вислухають її і не дізнаються, що вона робить?

They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and see that out of Galilee no prophet hath arisen.	На це сказали йому: чи й ти не з Галилеї? Роздивись і побачиш, що пророк з Галилеї не приходить.

And every man went unto his own house:	І кожний пішов до свого дому.
Chapter 8	Глава 8

but Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.	Ісус же пішов на гору Елеонську.

And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came; and he sat down, and taught them.	А вранці знову прийшов у храм, і весь народ ішов до Нього. Він сів і навчав їх.

And the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman taken in adultery; and having set her in the midst,	Приводять книжники і фарисеї до Нього жінку, схоплену під час перелюбу, і, поставивши її посередині, кажуть Йому:

they say unto him, trying him, Teacher, this woman hath been taken in adultery, in the very act.	Учителю, цю жінку взяли нині на перелюбі;

Now in the law Moses commanded us that such should be stoned: what then sayest thou?	а Мойсей в законі повелів нам побивати таких камінням; а Ти що скажеш?

And this they said, trying him, that they might have whereof to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, taking no notice.	Говорили ж це, спокушаючи Його, щоб знайти, за що Його звинуватити. Але Ісус, нахилившись додолу, пальцем писав по землі, не звертаючи на них уваги.

But when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.	Коли ж продовжували запитувати Його, Він, підвівшись, сказав їм: хто з вас без гріха, перший кинь у неї камінь.

And again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.	І знов, нахилившись додолу, писав на землі.

And they, when they heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the eldest: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the midst.	Вони ж, почувши це, докорені совістю, почали виходити один за одним, починаючи від старших до останніх; і залишився один Ісус і жінка, яка стояла посередині.

And when Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Where are those thine accusers? did no man condemn thee?	Ісус, підвівшись і нікого не побачивши, крім жінки, сказав їй: жінко! Де ті, що звинувачували тебе? Ніхто тебе не осудив?

And she said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said, Neither do I judge thee: go thy way, and sin no more.	Вона відповіла: ніхто, Господи. Ісус сказав їй: і Я не осуджую тебе; іди, і віднині більше не гріши.

Again therefore Jesus spake unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.	Ісус знову говорив до народу, кажучи: Я — Світло для світу; хто піде вслід за Мною, той не ходитиме в темряві, а матиме світло життя.

The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest witness of thyself; thy witness is not true.	Тоді фарисеї сказали Йому: Ти Сам про Себе свідчиш, і свідчення Твоє неправдиве.

Jesus answered and said unto them, Even if I bear witness of myself, my witness is true; for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye know not whence I come, and whither I go.	Ісус сказав їм у відповідь: якщо і Сам про Себе свідчу, свідчення Моє правдиве, бо Я знаю, звідки прийшов і куди йду; а ви не знаєте, звідки Я і куди йду.

Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.	Ви судите за плоттю; а Я не суджу нікого.

Yea and if I judge, my judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.	А якщо і суджу Я, то суд Мій праведний, бо Я не один, а Я і Отець, Який Мене послав.

Yea and in your law it is written, that the witness of two men is true.	У законі вашому написано, що свідчення двох людей є правдиве.

I am he that beareth witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.	Я Сам свідчу про Себе, і свідчить про Мене Отець, Який Мене послав.

They said therefore unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye know neither me, nor my Father: if ye knew me, ye would know my Father also.	Тоді сказали Йому: де Твій Отець? Ісус відповів: ви не знаєте ні Мене, ні Отця Мого; якби ви знали Мене, то знали б і Отця Мого.

These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man took him; because his hour was not yet come.	Ці слова говорив Ісус біля скарбниці, коли навчав у храмі; і ніхто не взяв Його, бо ще не прийшов час Його.

Jesus said therefore again unto them, I go away, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sin: whither I go, ye cannot come.	Знову сказав їм Ісус: Я відходжу, і будете шукати Мене, і помрете в гріху вашому. Куди Я йду, туди ви не можете прийти.

The Jews therefore said, Will he kill himself, that he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come?	Говорили ж юдеї: невже Він уб’є Сам Себе, що каже: куди Я іду, ви не можете прийти?

And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.	Він сказав їм: ви від нижніх, Я ж від вишніх; ви від світу цього, Я ж не від цього світу.

I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for except ye believe that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.	Тому Я сказав вам, що ви помрете в гріхах ваших. Бо якщо не увіруєте, що це Я, то помрете в гріхах ваших.

They said therefore unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus said unto them, Even that which I have also spoken unto you from the beginning.	Тоді сказали Йому: Хто ж Ти? Ісус відповів їм: Початок всього, що й кажу вам.

I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you: howbeit he that sent me is true; and the things which I heard from him, these say I unto the world.	Багато чого маю говорити і судити про вас, але Той, Хто послав Мене, істинний є, і що почув Я від Нього, те й кажу світові.

They perceived not that he spake to them of the Father.	Не зрозуміли, що Він говорив їм про Отця.

Jesus therefore said unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself, but as my Father taught me, I speak these things.	Сказав же їм Ісус: коли піднесете Сина Людського, тоді зрозумієте, що це Я, і що нічого не роблю від Себе, а як навчив Мене Отець Мій, так і говорю.

Jesus therefore said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I came forth and am come from God; for neither have I come of myself, but he sent me. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father it is your will to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and standeth not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. But I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.	А втім, Я не шукаю слави Моєї; є Той, Хто шукає і судить.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my word, he shall never see death.	Істинно, істинно кажу вам: хто слово Моє збереже, той не побачить смерти повік.

The Jews therefore said unto him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my word, he shall never taste of death. And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind?	Ученики Його запитали в Нього: Учителю, хто згрішив, — він чи батьки його, що сліпим народився?

Jesus answered, Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.	Ісус відповів: ні він не згрішив, ні батьки його, а це для того, щоб відкрилися на ньому діла Божі.

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.	Мені належить робити діла Того, Хто послав Мене, доки день є; прийде ніч, коли ніхто робити не зможе.

The neighbors therefore, and they that saw him aforetime, that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?	Сусіди і ті, що бачили його раніше, як він був сліпим, говорили: чи не той це, що сидів і просив?

Others said, It is he: and others, He is like him. He said, I am he.	Одні говорили, що це той; інші ж — що схожий на нього. Він же сказав: це я.

They said therefore unto him, How were thine eyes opened?	Тоді запитали в нього: як відкрилися в тебе очі?

He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went away and washed, and I received sight.	Він казав їм у відповідь: Чоловік, Якого звуть Ісус, зробив суміш, помазав очі мої і сказав мені: іди в купальню Силоам і вмийся. Я пішов, умився і прозрів.

They said therefore unto him, Where is he? He saith, I know not.	Тоді сказали йому: де ж Він? Він відповів: не знаю.

They bring to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.	Повели цього колишнього сліпця до фарисеїв.

Now it was the sabbath when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.	А була субота, коли Ісус зробив суміш і відкрив йому очі.

Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. And he said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and I see.	Спитали його також фарисеї, як він прозрів. Він же сказав їм: суміш поклав Він на мої очі, і я вмився і бачу.

Some therefore of the Pharisees said, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was a division among them.	Тоді деякі з фарисеїв говорили: Чоловік Цей не від Бога, бо не шанує суботи. Інші говорили: як може грішний чоловік такі чудеса творити? І сталася між ними суперечка.

They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, in that he opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.	Знов говорять сліпому: що ти скажеш про Того, Хто відкрив тобі очі? Він сказав: це пророк.

The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight,	Але юдеї не повірили, що він був сліпим і прозрів, доки не покликали батьків того, хто прозрів,

and asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?	і запитали, кажучи: чи це син ваш, про якого ви кажете, що народився сліпим? Як же він тепер бачить?

And his parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:	Батьки його сказали їм у відповідь: ми знаємо, що він — це син наш і що він сліпим народився,

but how he now seeth, we know not; or who opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him; he shall speak for himself.	а як тепер бачить, не знаємо, і хто відкрив йому очі, ми не знаємо. Він сам уже дорослий; самого спитайте, нехай сам про себе скаже.

These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.	Так відповіли батьки його, тому що боялись юдеїв; бо юдеї вже змовилися, щоб того, хто визнає Його за Христа, відлучити від синагоги.

Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.	Тому-то батьки його сказали: він уже дорослий, самого запитайте.

So they called a second time the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give glory to God: we know that this man is a sinner.	Отже, вдруге покликали чоловіка, який був сліпим, і сказали йому: віддай славу Богові; ми знаємо, що Чоловік Той — грішник.

He therefore answered and said, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.	Він сказав їм у відповідь: чи Він — грішник, не знаю; одне знаю, що я був сліпий, а тепер бачу.

And they said unto him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?	Знову запитали його: що Він зробив з тобою? Як відкрив твої очі?

He answered them, I told you even now, and ye did not hear; wherefore would ye hear it again? would ye also become his disciples?	Відповів їм: я вже сказав вам, і ви не вислухали; що ще хочете почути? Чи не хочете і ви стати Його учениками?

They reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are disciples of Moses.	Вони ж докорили йому і сказали: ти Його ученик, ми ж Мойсеєві учні.

We know that God hath spoken unto Moses: but as for this man, we know not whence he is.	Ми знаємо, що з Мойсеєм говорив Бог; а про Цього ж не знаємо, звідки Він.

The man answered and said unto them, Why, herein is a marvel, that ye know not whence he is, and yet he opened mine eyes.	Чоловік, який прозрів, сказав їм у відповідь: це й дивно, що ви не знаєте, звідки Він, а Він відкрив мені очі.

Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshiper of God, and do his will, him he heareth.	Але ми знаємо, що грішників Бог не слухає; хто шанує Бога і волю Його творить, того слухає.

Since the world began it was never heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind.	Споконвіку не чувано, щоб хтось відкрив очі сліпому від народження.

If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.	Якби Він не був від Бога, то не міг би нічого творити.

They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.	Сказали йому у відповідь: у гріхах ти весь народився, і чи ти нас учиш? І вигнали його геть.

Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and finding him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?	Ісус, почувши, що вигнали його геть, знайшов його і сказав йому: чи віруєш ти в Сина Божого?

He answered and said, And who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him?	Він відповів і сказав: а хто Він, Господи, щоб мені вірувати в Нього?

And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and he it is that speaketh with thee.	Ісус сказав йому: і бачив ти Його, і Він говорить з тобою.

And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshiped him.	Він же промовив: вірую, Господи! І поклонився Йому.

And Jesus said, For judgment came I into this world, that they that see not may see; and that they that see may become blind.	І сказав Ісус: на суд Я прийшов у світ цей, щоб незрячі бачили, а зрячі стали сліпими.

And those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said unto him, Are we also blind?	Почувши це, деякі з фарисеїв, що були з Ним, сказали Йому: невже і ми сліпі?

Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye would have no sin: but now ye say, We see: therefore your sin remaineth.	Ісус сказав їм: якби ви були сліпі, то не мали б на собі гріха, але як ви говорите, що бачите, то гріх лишається на вас.
Chapter 10	Глава 10

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.	Істинно, істинно кажу вам: хто входить в овечий двір не дверима, а десь перелазить, той злодій і розбійник.

But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.	А хто входить у двері, той пастир овець.

To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.	Йому воротар відчиняє, і вівці голос його чують, він кличе своїх овець на ймення і виводить їх.

And when he hath put forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.	І коли виведе своїх овець, йде поперед них, а вівці йдуть за ним, бо знають його голос.

And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.	За чужим же не йдуть, а тікають від нього, бо не знають чужого голосу.

This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.	Цю притчу сказав їм Ісус; але вони не зрозуміли, про що Він говорив їм.

Jesus therefore said unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.	Отже, знову сказав їм Ісус: істинно, істинно кажу вам, що Я двері вівцям.

All that have come are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.	Всі, скільки їх приходило переді Мною, є злодії й розбійники; але вівці не послухали їх.

I am the door; by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and go out, and shall find pasture.	Я є двері: хто через Мене увійде, той спасеться, і увійде, і вийде, і пасовище знайде.

The thief cometh not, but that he may steal, and kill, and destroy: I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.	Злодій приходить тільки для того, щоб украсти, вбити й погубити. Я прийшов для того, щоб мали життя, і надто мали.

I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd layeth down his life for the sheep.	Я Пастир Добрий: пастир добрий душу свою покладає за овець.

But he that is a hireling, and not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, beholdeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth, and the wolf snatcheth them, and scattereth the sheep:	А наймит, не пастир, якому вівці не свої, побачивши, що йде вовк, кидає овець і тікає, а вовк хапає і розганяє овець.

and the hireling fleeth, because he is a hireling, and careth not for the sheep.	А наймит тікає, бо він наймит, і не турбується про овець.

I am the good shepherd; and I know mine own, and am known of mine own,	Я ж Пастир Добрий; і знаю Моїх, і знають Мене Мої.

even as the Father knoweth me, and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.	Як знає Мене Отець, так і Я знаю Отця; і душу Мою покладаю за овець.

And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one flock, one shepherd.	Й інших овець маю, які не з цього двору, і тих Мені треба привести; і голос Мій почують, і буде одне стадо і один Пастир.

Therefore doth the Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again.	Тому любить Мене Отець, що Я душу Мою віддаю, щоб знову прийняти її.

No one taketh it away from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment received I from my Father.	Ніхто не відбирає її від Мене, але Я Сам віддаю її. Маю владу віддати її і владу маю знову прийняти її. Цю заповідь Я прийняв від Отця Мого.

There arose a division therefore again among the Jews because of these words.	Через ці слова знову виникла суперечка між юдеями.

And it was the feast of the dedication at Jerusalem, and it was winter;	Було тоді в Єрусалимі свято оновлення, і стояла зима.

and Jesus was walking in the temple in Solomon’s porch.	Ісус ходив у храмі, у притворі Соломоновім.

The Jews therefore came round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou hold us in suspense? If thou art the Christ, tell us plainly.	Тут юдеї обступили Його і говорили Йому: чи довго триматимеш душі наші у невіданні? Якщо Ти Христос, скажи нам прямо.

Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believe not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, these bear witness of me.	Ісус відповів їм: Я сказав вам, і не вірите; діла, які Я творю в ім’я Отця Мого, свідчать про Мене.

But ye believe not, for ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.	Але ви не вірите, бо ви не з Моїх овець, як Я сказав вам.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:	Вівці Мої голосу Мого слухаються, і Я знаю їх; і вони йдуть за Мною.

and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand.	І Я дам їм життя вічне, і не загинуть повік; і ніхто не викраде їх з руки Моєї.

My Father, who hath given them unto me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hand.	Отець Мій, Який дав Мені їх, більший за всіх, і ніхто не може викрасти їх з руки Отця Мого.

I and the Father are one.	Я і Отець — єдине.

The Jews therefore took up stones again to stone him.	Тут знов юдеї схопили каміння, щоб побити Його.

Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shown you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?	Ісус відповів їм: багато добрих діл показав Я вам від Отця Мого; за яке з них хочете побити Мене камінням?

The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not, but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.	Юдеї сказали Йому у відповідь: не за добрі діла хочемо побити Тебе камінням, а за богохульство і за те, що Ти, будучи людиною, робиш Себе Богом.

Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?	Ісус відповів їм: чи не написано в законі вашому: Я сказав, що ви боги?

If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came (and the scripture cannot be broken),	Якщо назвав богами тих, до кого було слово Боже, і не може порушитись Писання, —

say ye of him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?	чи Тому, Якого Отець освятив і послав у світ, ви говорите, що богохульствує, бо сказав: Я Син Божий?

If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.	Якщо Я не творю діл Отця Мого, не вірте Мені;

But if I do them, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in him.	а якщо творю, то, коли не вірите Мені, вірте ділам Моїм, щоб пізнати і повірити, що Отець в Мені і Я в Ньому.

They sought therefore again to take him: and he went forth out of their hand.	Тоді знову намагалися Його схопити; але Він ухилився від рук їхніх.

Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister Martha.	Був один недужий — Лазар з Вифанії, села Марії та її сестри Марфи.

And it was that Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.	Марія ж, брат якої Лазар був недужий, була та, що помазала Господа миром і обтерла ноги Його волоссям своїм.

The sisters therefore sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.	Сестри послали сказати Йому: Господи, ось, кого Ти любиш, нездужає.

But when Jesus heard it, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified thereby.	Ісус, почувши те, сказав: ця недуга не на смерть, а на славу Божу, щоб через неї прославився Син Божий.

Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.	Ісус же любив Марфу і сестру її та Лазаря.

When therefore he heard that he was sick, he abode at that time two days in the place where he was.	Коли ж почув, що він хворий, то пробув два дні на тому місці, де знаходився.

Then after this he saith to the disciples, Let us go into Judea again.	Після цього сказав ученикам: підемо знову до Юдеї.

The disciples say unto him, Rabbi, the Jews were but now seeking to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?	Ученики сказали Йому: Учителю, чи давно юдеї намагалися побити Тебе камінням, і Ти знову йдеш туди?

Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If a man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.	Ісус відповів: чи не дванадцять годин є у дні? Хто ходить удень, той не спотикається, тому що бачить світло світу цього;

But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because the light is not in him.	а хто ходить уночі, спотикається, бо немає світла з ним.

Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off;	Вифанія ж була поблизу Єрусалима, стадій з п’ятнадцять.

and many of the Jews had come the women around Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.	І багато юдеїв прийшли до Марфи й Марії, щоб утішити їх у скорботі за братом їхнім.

Martha therefore said unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.	Тоді Марфа сказала Ісусові: Господи! Якби Ти був тут, не помер би брат мій.

But even now I know that, whatsoever thou shalt ask of God, God will give thee.	Але й тепер знаю, що, коли чого Ти попросиш у Бога, дасть Тобі Бог.

Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.	Ісус говорить їй: воскресне брат твій.

And when she had said these things, she went away, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Teacher is here, and calleth thee.	Сказавши так, пішла і покликала Марію, сестру свою, нишком, кажучи: Учитель тут і кличе тебе.

She, when she heard it, arose quickly, and goeth unto him.	Вона, як тільки почула, поспішно встала і пішла до Нього.

The Jews then who were with her in the house, and were consoling her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the tomb to weep there. But some of them said, Could not this man, who opened the eyes of him that was blind, have caused that this man also should not die?	А деякі з них сказали: чи не міг би Цей, що відкрив очі сліпому, зробити так, щоб і цей не помер?

Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone lay against it.	Ісус же, знову пройнявшись жалем, приходить до гробу. То була печера, і камінь лежав на ній.

Jesus saith, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time the body decayeth; for he hath been dead four days.	Ісус говорить: візьміть камінь. Сестра померлого, Марфа, говорить Йому: Господи! Вже смердить, бо чотири дні, як він у гробі.

Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou believedst, thou shouldest see the glory of God?	Ісус говорить їй: чи не сказав Я тобі, що, коли будеш вірувати, побачиш славу Божу?

So they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou heardest me.	Відвалили камінь від печери, де лежав померлий. Ісус звів очі до неба і сказав: Отче! Хвалу Тобі воздаю, що Ти почув Мене.

And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the multitude that standeth around I said it, that they may believe that thou didst send me.	Я і знав, що Ти завжди почуєш Мене; але сказав це для народу, який стоїть тут, щоб повірили, що Ти послав Мене.

And when he had thus spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.	Сказавши це, Він голосно промовив: Лазарю! Вийди геть.

And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes; and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go. Many therefore of the Jews, who came to Mary and beheld the things which Jesus did, believed on him.	Тоді багато з юдеїв, які прийшли до Марії і бачили, що сотворив Ісус, увірували в Нього.

But some of them went away to the Pharisees, and told them the things which Jesus had done.	А деякі з них пішли до фарисеїв і сказали їм, що зробив Ісус.

The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many signs.	Тоді первосвященики й фарисеї зібрали раду і говорили: що нам робити? Цей Чоловік багато чудес творить.

If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.	Якщо залишимо Його так, то всі увірують у Нього, і прийдуть римляни і заволодіють містом нашим і народом.

But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,	Один же з них, на ім’я Каяфа, який був того року первосвящеником, сказав їм: ви нічого не знаєте,

nor do ye consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.	і не подумаєте, що краще нам, щоб один чоловік помер за людей, ніж щоб увесь народ загинув.

Now this he said not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation;	Це ж сказав він не від себе, а, будучи того року первосвящеником, пророкував, що Ісус мав померти за народ, —

and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God that are scattered abroad.	і не тільки за народ, але щоб і розсіяні чада Божі зібрати воєдино.

So from that day forth they took counsel together that they might put him to death.	З того дня змовились убити Його.

Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews, but departed thence into the country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim; and there he tarried with his disciples. Now the passover of the Jews was at hand: and many went up to Jerusalem out of the country before the passover, to purify themselves.	Наближалася Пасха юдейська, і багато людей з усієї країни прийшло до Єрусалима перед Пасхою, щоб очиститися.

They sought therefore for Jesus, and spake one with another, as they stood in the temple, What think ye? That he will not come to the feast?	Тоді шукали Ісуса і, стоячи в храмі, говорили один одному: як вам здається? Чи не прийде Він на свято?

Jesus therefore six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, who had died, whom he raised from the dead.	Ісус же за шість днів до Пасхи прийшов у Вифанію, де був Лазар померлий, якого Він воскресив з мертвих.

So they made him a supper there: and Martha served; but Lazarus was one of them that sat at meat with him.	Там приготували Йому вечерю, і Марфа прислуговувала, а Лазар був одним з тих, що возлежали з Ним.

Mary therefore took a pound of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment.	Марія ж, узявши літр нардового чистого дорогоцінного мира, помазала ноги Ісуса і обтерла волоссям своїм ноги Його; і дім наповнився пахощами мира.

Then one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, that should betray him, saith,	Тоді один з учеників Його, Іуда Симонів Іскаріот, який хотів видати Його, сказав:

Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred denarii, and given to the poor?	а чому б було не продати це миро за триста динаріїв і не роздати убогим?

Now this he said, not because he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and took away what was put therein.	Сказав же він це не тому, що піклувався про убогих, а тому, що був злодієм. Він мав при собі грошову скриньку і носив, що туди вкидали.

Jesus therefore said, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.	Ісус же сказав: залиште її; вона зберегла це на день погребіння Мого.

For the poor ye have always with you; but me ye have not always.	Бо вбогих завжди маєте з собою, а Мене не завжди.

Much people of the Jews therefore learned that he was there: and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.	Багато юдеїв дізналися, що Він там, і прийшли не тільки заради Ісуса, але щоб бачити і Лазаря, якого Він воскресив з мертвих.

But the chief priests took counsel that they might put Lazarus also to death;	Первосвященики ж змовились убити і Лазаря,

because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.	бо через нього багато хто відходив від юдеїв і вірував в Ісуса.

On the morrow a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,	На другий день багато народу прийшло на свято; почувши, що Ісус іде в Єрусалим,

took the branches of the palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried out, Hosanna: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel.	взяли пальмове віття, вийшли назустріч Йому і викликували: осанна! Благословен, Хто йде в ім’я Господнє, Цар Ізраїлів!

And Jesus, having found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,	Ісус же, знайшовши осля, сів на нього, як написано:

Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.	не бійся, дочко Сионська! Ось Цар твій гряде, сидячи на молодому ослі.

And these things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.	Ученики Його спочатку не зрозуміли цього, але коли прославився Ісус, тоді згадали, що так було про Нього написано, і це зробили Йому.

The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, bare witness.	Народ, що був з Ним раніш, свідчив, що Він викликав Лазаря із гробу і воскресив його з мертвих.

For this cause also the multitude went and met him, for that they heard that he had done this sign.	Тому і зустрів Його народ, бо чув, що Він сотворив це чудо.

The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Behold how ye prevail nothing; lo, the world is gone after him.	Фарисеї ж говорили між собою: чи бачите, що нічого не вдієте? Весь світ іде за Ним.

Now there were certain Greeks among those that went up to worship at the feast:	Між тими, що прийшли поклонитися на свято, деякі були еллінами.

these therefore came to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.	Вони підійшли до Филипа, що був з Вифсаїди галилейської, і просили його, кажучи: господарю, хочемо бачити Ісуса.

Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.	Филип іде і говорить про те Андрієві; а потім Андрій і Филип розповідають про те Ісусові.

And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.	Ісус же сказав їм у відповідь: настав час прославитися Синові Людському.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat fall into the earth and die, it abideth by itself alone; but if it die, it beareth much fruit.	Істинно, істинно кажу вам: якщо пшеничне зерно, упавши на землю, не помре, то залишиться одне, а якщо помре, то принесе багато плодів.

He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.	Хто любить душу свою, погубить її, а хто ненавидить душу свою у світі цьому, збереже її в життя вічне.

If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: and if any man serve me, him will the Father honor.	Хто Мені служить, нехай за Мною йде; і де Я, там і слуга Мій буде. І хто Мені служить, того вшанує Отець Мій.

Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause came I unto this hour.	Нині душа Моя стривожена; і що Мені сказати? Отче, спаси Мене від цієї години! Але задля цього Я і прийшов — на цю годину.

Father, glorify thy name. There came therefore a voice out of heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.	Отче, прослав ім’я Твоє! Тоді зійшов голос з неба: і прославив, і ще прославлю.

The multitude therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it had thundered: others said, An angel hath spoken to him.	Народ, який стояв і чув те, говорив: це грім. А інші казали: ангел говорив Йому.

Jesus answered and said, This voice hath not come for my sake, but for your sakes.	Ісус на це сказав: не для Мене був голос цей, а для народу.

Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.	Нині суд світові цьому; нині князь світу цього вигнаний буде геть.

And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself.	І коли Я буду піднесений від землі, то всіх приверну до Себе.

But this he said, signifying by what manner of death he should die.	Це говорив Він, даючи зрозуміти, якою смертю Він помре.

The multitude answered him, We have heard out of the law that the Christ abideth forever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?	Народ відповів Йому: ми чули із закону, що Христос перебуває повік; як же Ти говориш, що належить піднестися Синові Людському? Хто є Цей Син Людський?

Jesus therefore said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, that darkness overtake you not: and he that walketh in the darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.	Тоді Ісус сказав їм: ще короткий час світло є з вами. Ходіть, поки є світло, щоб темрява вас не огорнула; а той, що ходить у темряві, не знає, куди йде.

While ye have the light, believe on the light, that ye may become sons of light. These things spake Jesus, and he departed and hid himself from them.	Доки світло з вами, віруйте у світло, щоб бути вам синами світла. Це промовивши, Ісус відійшов від них і зник.

But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they believed not on him:	Стільки чудес сотворив Він перед ними, і вони не вірували в Нього,

that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? And to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?	щоб справдилося слово пророка Ісаї, який сказав: Господи! Хто повірив тому, що ми чули? І кому відкрилася сила Господня?

For this cause they could not believe, for that Isaiah said again,	Тому не могли вони вірувати, що, як ще сказав Ісая:

He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; Lest they should see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart, And should turn again, And I should heal them.	засліпив очі їхні, закам’янив серця їхні, щоб не бачили очима і не розуміли серцем і не навернулися, щоб Я зцілив їх.

These things said Isaiah, when he saw his glory; and he spake of him.	Це сказав Ісая, коли бачив славу Його і говорив про Нього.

Nevertheless even of the rulers many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:	Проте і з начальників багато хто увірував у Нього; та через фарисеїв не признавалися, щоб не відлучили їх від синагоги.

for they loved the glory that is of men more than the glory that is of God.	Бо полюбили більше людську славу, ніж славу Божу.

And Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.	Ісус же проголосив: хто вірує в Мене, не в Мене вірує, а в Того, Хто послав Мене.

And he that beholdeth me beholdeth him that sent me.	І хто Мене бачить, той бачить Того, Хто послав Мене.

I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me may not abide in the darkness.	Я Світло, прийшов у світ, щоб усякий, хто в Мене вірує, не залишався у темряві.

And if any man hear my sayings, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.	І коли хто почує слова Мої і не повірить, Я не суджу його, бо Я прийшов не судити світ, але спасти світ.

He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my sayings, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I spake, the same shall judge him in the last day.	Хто від Мене відмовляється і не приймає слів Моїх, має собі суддю: слово, яке Я сказав, — воно судитиме його в останній день.

For I spake not from myself; but the Father that sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.	Бо Я говорив не від Себе; а Отець, Який послав Мене, Він дав Мені заповідь, що маю сказати і що говорити.

And I know that his commandment is life eternal; the things therefore which I speak, even as the Father hath said unto me, so I speak.	І Я знаю, що заповідь Його є життя вічне. Отже, що Я говорю, то говорю так, як сказав Мені Отець.
Chapter 13	Глава 13

Now before the feast of the passover, Jesus knowing that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own that were in the world, he loved them unto the end.	Перед святом Пасхи Ісус, знаючи, що прийшов Його час перейти з цього світу до Отця, показав на ділі, що, полюбивши Своїх, які були в світі, до кінця полюбив їх.

And supper being ended, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to betray him,	І під час вечері, коли диявол уже вклав у серце Іуді Симоновому Іскаріотові видати Його,

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he came forth from God, and goeth unto God,	Ісус, знаючи, що Отець усе віддав до рук Його і що Він від Бога вийшов і до Бога відходить,

riseth from supper, and layeth aside his garments; and he took a towel, and girded himself.	встав від вечері, зняв з Себе верхній одяг і, взявши рушник, підперезався.

Then he poureth water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.	Потім налив води в умивальницю і почав умивати ноги ученикам, і обтирати рушником, яким був підперезаний.

So he cometh to Simon Peter: and he saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?	Підходить і до Симона-Петра, а той говорить Йому: Господи! Чи Тобі умивати мої ноги?

Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt understand hereafter.	Ісус сказав йому у відповідь: що Я роблю, ти тепер не знаєш, а зрозумієш потім.

Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.	Петро каже Йому: не вмиєш ніг моїх повік. Ісус відповів йому: якщо не вмию тебе, не матимеш частини зі Мною.

Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.	Симон-Петро каже Йому: Господи, не тільки ноги мої, але й руки і голову.

Jesus saith to him, He that is bathed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.	Ісус говорить йому: вмитому треба тільки ноги обмити, бо увесь чистий; і ви чисті, але не всі.

For he knew him that should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.	Бо знав Він зрадника Свого, тому і сказав, що не всі вони чисті.

So when he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, having sat down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?	Коли ж умив їм ноги і надів одяг Свій, то знову возліг і сказав їм: чи знаєте, що Я зробив вам?

Ye call me, Teacher, and, Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.	Ви називаєте Мене Учителем і Господом, і добре кажете, бо Я Той і є.

If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.	Отже, якщо Я, Господь і Учитель, умив вам ноги, то і ви повинні вмивати ноги один одному.

For I have given you an example, that ye also should do as I have done to you.	Бо Я дав вам приклад, щоб і ви робили так само, як Я зробив вам.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, A servant is not greater than his lord; neither one that is sent greater than he that sent him.	Істинно, істинно кажу вам: раб не більший за господаря свого, і посланець не більший за того, хто послав його.

If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them.	Якщо це знаєте, блаженні ви, коли виконуєте.

I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me lifted up his heel against me.	Не про всіх вас кажу; Я знаю тих, кого обрав. Але нехай здійсниться Писання: той, хто їсть зі Мною хліб, підняв на Мене п’яту свою.

From henceforth I tell you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.	Тепер кажу вам, перш ніж те збудеться, щоб, як станеться, ви повірили, що це Я.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.	Істинно, істинно кажу вам: хто приймає того, кого Я пошлю, Мене приймає; а хто Мене приймає, приймає Того, Хто послав Мене.

When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in the spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.	Сказавши це, Ісус стривожився духом, і засвідчив, і сказав: істинно, істинно кажу вам, що один з вас видасть Мене.

The disciples therefore looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.	Тоді ученики озирались один на одного, не розуміючи, про кого Він говорить.

And after the sop, then entered Satan into him. Jesus therefore saith unto him, What thou doest, do quickly.	І з цим хлібом увійшов у нього сатана. І сказав йому Ісус: що робиш, роби швидше.

Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.	Але ніхто з тих, що возлежали, не зрозумів, до чого Він це сказав йому.

For some thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus said unto him, Buy what things we have need of for the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor. He then having received the sop straightaway went out: and it was night.	Він, взявши той хліб, одразу ж вийшов; а була ніч.

When he was gone out, Jesus saith, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.	Коли він вийшов, Ісус промовив: нині прославився Син Людський, і Бог прославився в Ньому.

If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and straightaway shall he glorify him.	Якщо Бог прославився в Ньому, то і Бог прославить Його в Собі, і скоро прославить Його.

Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say unto you.	Діти! Недовго вже бути Мені з вами. Будете шукати Мене і, як Я сказав юдеям, — куди Я йду, ви не можете прийти, так і вам кажу тепер.

Chapter 14	Глава 14

Let not your heart be troubled: believe in God, believe also in me.	Нехай не тривожиться серце ваше; віруйте в Бога і в Мене віруйте.

In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.	В домі Отця Мого осель багато. А якби не так, Я сказав би вам: Я йду приготувати місце вам.

And if I go, I will prepare for you a place; I come again, and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.	І коли піду і приготую вам місце, прийду знову і візьму вас до Себе, щоб і ви були там, де Я.

And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.	А куди Я йду, ви знаєте, і путь знаєте.

Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?	Фома сказав Йому: Господи! Не знаємо, куди йдеш; і як можемо знати путь?

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me.	Ісус сказав йому: Я є путь, і істина, і життя; ніхто не приходить до Отця, як тільки через Мене.

If ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.	Коли б ви знали Мене, то знали б і Отця Мого. І віднині знаєте Його і бачили Його.

Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.	Филип сказав Йому: Господи, покажи нам Отця, і нам вистачить.

Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and dost thou not know me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou, Show us the Father?	Ісус сказав йому: стільки часу Я з вами, і ти не знаєш Мене, Филипе? Хто бачив Мене, той і Отця бачив; як же ти говориш: покажи нам Отця?

Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not from myself: but the Father that abideth in me, he doeth the works.	Хіба ти не віриш, що Я в Отці і Отець у Мені? Слова, які Я кажу, не від Себе кажу; Отець, Який в Мені перебуває, Він творить діла.

Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.	Вірте Мені, що Я в Отці і Отець у Мені. Якщо ж ні, то вірте Мені за самими ділами.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.	Істинно, істинно кажу вам: хто вірує в Мене, діла, які творю Я, і він створить, і більше цих створить; тому що Я до Отця Мого іду.

I will not leave you desolate: I come unto you.	Не залишу вас сиротами; прийду до вас.

Yet a little while, and the world beholdeth me no more; but ye behold me: because I live, ye shall live also.	Ще трохи, і світ уже не побачить Мене; а ви побачите Мене, бо Я живу, і ви будете жити.

In that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.	Того дня дізнаєтесь ви, що Я в Отці Моєму, і ви в Мені, і Я в вас.

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him.	Хто має заповіді Мої і дотримується їх, той любить Мене; а хто любить Мене, того полюбить Отець Мій; і Я полюблю його і явлюся йому Сам.

Judas (not Iscariot) saith unto him, Lord, and what is come to pass that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?	Іуда, не Іскаріот, говорить Йому: Господи, що це, що Ти хочеш явити Себе нам, а не світові?

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. These things have I spoken unto you, while yet abiding with you.	Це сказав Я вам, перебуваючи з вами.

But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you.	Утішитель же, Дух Святий, Якого пошле Отець в ім’я Моє, навчить вас усього і нагадає вам усе, що Я говорив вам.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.	Мир залишаю вам, мир Мій даю вам; не так, як світ дає, Я даю вам. Нехай не тривожиться серце ваше і нехай не страхається.

Ye heard how I said to you, I go away, and I come unto you. If ye loved me, ye would have rejoiced, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.	Ви чули, що Я сказав вам: іду від вас і прийду до вас. Коли б ви любили Мене, то зраділи б, що Я сказав: іду до Отця; бо Отець Мій більший за Мене.

And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe.	І ось Я сказав вам про те, перш ніж збулося, щоб ви повірили, коли збудеться.

I will no more speak much with you, for the prince of the world cometh: and he hath nothing in me;	Вже небагато Мені говорити з вами; бо йде князь світу цього, і в Мені він не має нічого.

but that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.	Та щоб світ знав, що Я люблю Отця і, як заповів Мені Отець, так і творю. Вставайте, підемо звідси.
Chapter 15	Глава 15

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.	Я є істинна виноградна лоза, а Отець Мій — виноградар.

Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh it away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he cleanseth it, that it may bear more fruit.	Всяку гілку в Мене Він відсікає, що не плодоносить, і всяку, що плодоносить, очищає, щоб більше принесла плоду.

Already ye are clean because of the word which I have spoken unto you.	Ви вже очищені через слово, яке Я проповідував вам.

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; so neither can ye, except ye abide in me.	Перебувайте в Мені, і Я у вас. Як гілка не може приносити плоду сама від себе, якщо не буде на лозі, так і ви, якщо не будете в Мені.

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for apart from me ye can do nothing.	Я є лоза, а ви гілки; хто перебуває в Мені, і Я в ньому, той приносить багато плоду; бо без Мене не можете робити нічого.

If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.	Хто не буде в Мені, той буде відкинутий геть, як гілка, і всохне; а такі гілки збирають і кидають у вогонь, і вони згоряють.

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done unto you.	Якщо перебуватимете в Мені, і слова Мої у вас будуть, то, чого б ви не захотіли, просіть, і буде вам.

Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; and so shall ye be my disciples.	Тим прославиться Отець Мій, якщо ви принесете багато плоду і будете Моїми учениками.

Even as the Father hath loved me, I also have loved you: abide ye in my love.	Як полюбив Мене Отець, так і Я полюбив вас; перебувайте ж у Моїй любові.

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.	Якщо заповідей Моїх дотримаєтесь, то будете в любові Моїй, як і Я, дотримавшись заповідей Отця Мого, перебуваю в Його любові.

These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy may abide in you, and that your joy may be made full.	Це сказав Я вам, щоб радість Моя у вас перебувала, і радість ваша буде повна.

This is my commandment, that ye love one another, even as I have loved you.	Це є заповідь Моя, щоб ви любили один одного, як Я полюбив вас.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.	Немає більше від тієї любови, як хто душу свою покладе за друзів своїх.

No longer do I call you servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I heard from my Father I have made known unto you.	Не називаю вас більше рабами, бо раб не знає, що робить господар його; а Я назвав вас друзями, тому що сказав вам усе, що чув від Отця Мого.

Ye did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that ye should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should abide: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.	Не ви Мене обрали, але Я вас обрав і настановив вас, щоб ви йшли і приносили плід, і щоб плід ваш залишився, щоб, чого не попросите в Отця в ім’я Моє, Він дав вам.

These things I command you, that ye may love one another.	Це заповідаю вам, щоб ви любили один одного.

If the world hateth you, ye know that it hath hated me before it hated you.	Якщо світ вас ненавидить, знайте, що Мене перше, ніж вас, зненавидів.

If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.	Якби ви були від світу, то світ любив би своє; а оскільки ви не від світу, але Я обрав вас від світу, тому ненавидить вас світ.

Remember the word that I said unto you, A servant is not greater than his lord. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.	Пам’ятайте слово, яке Я сказав вам: раб не більший за господаря свого. Якщо Мене гнали, то гнатимуть і вас; якщо Мого слова дотримувались, будуть дотримуватись і вашого.

But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.	Та все те чинитимуть вам за ім’я Моє, тому що не знають Того, Хто послав Мене.

If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no excuse for their sin.	Якби Я не прийшов і не говорив їм, то не мали б гріха; а тепер не мають виправдання за гріх свій.

He that hateth me hateth my Father also.	Хто ненавидить Мене, той ненавидить і Отця Мого.

If I had not done among them the works which none other hath done, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.	Коли б Я не творив серед них діл, яких ніхто інший не створив, то не мали б гріха; а тепер і бачили, і зненавиділи й Мене, і Отця Мого.

But this cometh to pass, that the word may be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.	Але нехай справдиться слово, написане в законі їхньому: зненавиділи Мене даремно.

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall bear witness of me:	Коли ж прийде Утішитель, Якого Я пошлю вам від Отця, Дух істини, Який від Отця виходить, Він буде свідчити про Мене.

and ye also bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.	Також і ви будете свідчити, бо ви спочатку зі Мною.
Chapter 16	Глава 16

These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be caused to stumble.	Це сказав Я вам, щоб ви не спокусилися.

They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the hour cometh, that whosoever killeth you shall think that he offereth service unto God.	Виженуть вас із синагог; прийде навіть час, коли всякий, хто вбиватиме вас, буде думати, що тим він служить Богові.

And these things will they do, because they have not known the Father, nor me.	Так будуть робити, бо не пізнали ні Отця, ні Мене.

But these things have I spoken unto you, that when the hour is come, ye may remember them, how that I told you. And these things I said not unto you from the beginning, because I was with you.	Але Я сказав це для того, щоб ви, як прийде той час, згадали, що Я казав вам про те. А не говорив вам цього спочатку тому, що був з вами.

But now I go unto him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?	А тепер іду до Того, Хто Мене послав, і ніхто з вас не питає Мене: куди йдеш?

But because I have spoken these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.	Але від того, що Я сказав вам це, скорботою пройнялися серця ваші.

Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I go, I will send him unto you.	Але Я істину кажу вам: краще для вас, щоб Я пішов. Бо, якщо Я не піду, Утішитель не прийде до вас; а як піду, то пошлю Його до вас,

And he, when he is come, will convict the world in respect of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:	і коли Він прийде, викриє світ за гріх, і за правду, і за суд.

of sin, because they believe not on me;	За гріх — тому, що не вірують в Мене.

of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye behold me no more;	За правду — тому, що Я йду до Отця Мого, і вже не побачите Мене.

of judgment, because the prince of this world hath been judged.	А за суд, бо князя світу цього осуджено.

I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.	Ще багато чого маю сказати вам, але ви тепер не можете вмістити.

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but what things soever he shall hear, these shall he speak: and he shall declare unto you the things that are to come.	Коли ж прийде Він, Дух істини, то наставить вас на всяку істину; бо не від Себе говоритиме, а буде говорити те, що почує, і майбутнє звістить вам.

He shall glorify me: for he shall take of mine, and shall declare it unto you.	Він прославить Мене, бо від Мого візьме і звістить вам.

All things whatsoever the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he taketh of mine, and shall declare it unto you.	Усе, що має Отець, — Моє; тому Я сказав, що від Мого візьме і звістить вам.

A little while, and ye behold me not; and again a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.	Ще трохи, і ви вже не побачите Мене, і знову незабаром побачите Мене, бо Я йду до Отця.

Some of his disciples therefore said one to another, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye behold me not; and again a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father? They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? We know not what he saith.	Отже, вони говорили: що це говорить Він: ще трохи? Не знаємо, що каже.

Jesus perceived therefore that they were desirous to ask him, and he said unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves concerning this, that I said, A little while, and ye behold me not, and again a little while, and ye shall see me?	Ісус, зрозумівши, що хочуть спитати Його, сказав їм: чи про те допитуєтеся між собою, що Я сказав: ще трохи, і не побачите Мене, і знову незабаром побачите Мене?

Verily, verily, I say unto you, that ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.	Істинно, істинно кажу вам: ви будете плакати і ридати, а світ зрадіє; ви печальні будете, та печаль ваша за радість буде.

A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but when she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for the joy that a man is born into the world.	Жінка, коли родить, терпить скорботу, бо прийшла година її; коли ж породила дитя, вже не пам’ятає скорботи від радости, тому що народилася людина на світ.

And ye therefore now have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one taketh away from you.	Так і ви маєте печаль нині; але Я знову побачу вас, і зрадіє серце ваше, і радости вашої ніхто не відбере від вас.

And in that day ye shall ask me no question. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.	І в той день ви не спитаєте Мене ні про що. Істинно, істинно кажу вам: чого б ви не попросили в Отця в ім’я Моє, дасть вам.

Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be made full.	Донині ви нічого не просили в ім’я Моє; просіть і одержите, щоб радість ваша була повною.

These things have I spoken unto you in dark sayings: but the hour cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in dark sayings, but shall declare to you plainly of the Father.	Це Я говорив вам притчами; але настає час, коли вже не буду говорити вам притчами, а відкрито сповіщу вам про Отця.

In that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you;	В той день будете просити в ім’я Моє, і не кажу вам, що Я благатиму Отця за вас:

for the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came forth from God.	бо Сам Отець любить вас, тому що ви полюбили Мене і увірували, що Я зійшов від Бога.

I came out from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go unto the Father.	Я зійшов від Отця і прийшов у світ; і знову залишаю світ і йду до Отця.

His disciples say unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no dark saying.	Ученики Його сказали Йому: ось тепер Ти говориш просто, і притчі не кажеш ніякої.

Now know we that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.	Тепер бачимо, що Ти все знаєш і не потребуєш, щоб хто питав Тебе. Тому і віруємо, що Ти від Бога зійшов.

Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?	Ісус відповів їм: тепер віруєте?

Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.	Ось настає час, і вже настав, коли ви розійдетесь кожний до свого і Мене залишите одного, але Я не один, бо Отець зі Мною.

These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye may have peace. In the world ye have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.	Це сказав Я вам, щоб ви мали в Мені мир. У світі зазнаєте скорботи, але мужайтесь: Я переміг світ.
Chapter 17	Глава 17

These things spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:	Після цих слів Ісус звів очі Свої до неба і сказав: Отче! Прийшов час. Прослав Сина Твого, щоб і Син Твій прославив Тебе;

even as thou gavest him authority over all flesh, that to all whom thou hast given him, he shall give eternal life.	як Ти дав Йому владу над усякою плоттю, щоб усьому, що Ти дав Йому, дав Він життя вічне.

And this is life eternal, that they should know thee the only true God, and him whom thou didst send, even Jesus Christ.	Це ж є життя вічне, щоб пізнали Тебе, Єдиного Істинного Бога, і Того, Кого Ти послав, Ісуса Христа.

I have glorified thee on the earth: I have accomplished the work which thou hast given me to do.	Я прославив Тебе на землі, звершив діло, яке Ти доручив Мені виконати.

And now, Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.	І нині прослав Мене Ти, Отче, в Тебе Самого — славою, яку Я мав у Тебе, коли ще не було світу.

I manifested thy name unto the men whom thou hast given me out of the world: thine they were, and thou hast given them to me; and they have kept thy word.	Я явив ім’я Твоє людям, яких Ти дав Мені від світу; вони були Твої, і Ти дав їх Мені, і вони зберегли слово Твоє.

When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where was a garden, into which he entered, himself and his disciples.	Сказавши це, Ісус вийшов з учениками Своїми на той бік потоку Кедрону, де був сад, в який увійшов Сам і ученики Його.

Now Judas also, who betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.	Знав же це місце й Іуда, зрадник Його, тому що Ісус часто збирався там з учениками Своїми.

Judas then, having received the band of soldiers, and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.	Отже, Іуда, взявши загін воїнів та слуг первосвящеників і фарисеїв, приходить туди з ліхтарями і світильниками та зброєю.

Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that were coming upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?	Ісус же, знаючи все, що з Ним буде, вийшов і сказав їм: кого шукаєте?

They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, who betrayed him, was standing with them.	Йому відповіли: Ісуса Назорея. Ісус говорить їм: це Я. Стояв же з ними й Іуда, зрадник Його.

When therefore he said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.	І коли сказав їм: це Я, — вони відступили назад і впали на землю.

Again therefore he asked them, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.	Знову запитав їх Ісус: кого шукаєте? Вони сказали: Ісуса Назорея.

Jesus answered, I told you that I am he; if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:	Ісус відповів: Я сказав вам, що це Я; отже, якщо Мене шукаєте, залиште цих, нехай ідуть.

that the word might be fulfilled which he spake, Of those whom thou hast given me I lost not one.	Щоб збулося сказане слово: з тих, якого Ти дав Мені, Я не погубив нікого.

Simon Peter therefore having a sword drew it, and struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. Now the servant’s name was Malchus.	Симон же Петро, маючи меч, витяг його і вдарив раба первосвященика і відсік йому праве вухо. Ім’я раба було Малх.

Jesus therefore said unto Peter, Put up the sword into the sheath: the cup which the Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?	Але Ісус сказав Петрові: сховай меч у піхви; невже Мені не пити чаші, яку дав Мені Отець?

So the band and the chief captain, and the officers of the Jews, seized Jesus and bound him,	Тоді воїни, і тисяцький, і слуги юдейські взяли Ісуса і зв’язали Його.

and led him away to Annas first; for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.	І відвели Його спершу до Анни, бо він був тестем Каяфи, який був первосвящеником того року.

Now Caiaphas was he that gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should perish for the people.	Це був той Каяфа, який дав пораду юдеям, що краще одному чоловікові вмерти за народ.

And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did the other disciple. Now that disciple was known unto the high priest, and entered in with Jesus into the court of the high priest;	Услід за Ісусом ішли Симон-Петро та інший ученик; ученик же той був знайомий первосвященикові і ввійшов з Ісусом у двір первосвященика.

but Peter was standing at the door without. So the other disciple, who was known unto the high priest, went out and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.	А Петро стояв зовні при дверях. Потім ученик, який був знайомий первосвященикові, вийшов і сказав воротарці, і ввів Петра.

The maid therefore that kept the door saith unto Peter, Art thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not.	І ось рабиня-воротарка каже Петрові: чи ти не з учеників Цього Чоловіка? Він сказав: ні.

Now the servants and the officers were standing there, having made a fire of coals; for it was cold; and they were warming themselves: and Peter was with them, standing and warming himself. The high priest therefore asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his teaching.	Первосвященик же запитав Ісуса про учеників Його і про вчення Його.

Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in a synagogue, and in the temple, where the Jews always come together; and in secret spake I nothing.	Ісус відповів йому: Я говорив світові відкрито; Я завжди навчав у синагогах і в храмі, де завжди юдеї сходяться, і таємно не говорив нічого.

Why askest thou me? ask them that have heard me, what I spake unto them: behold, these know the things which I said.	Чого запитуєш Мене? Запитай тих, які чули, що Я говорив їм; ось ці знають, що Я говорив.

And when he had said this, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?	Коли Він сказав це, один із слуг, що стояв близько, ударив Ісуса по щоці, кажучи: так відповідаєш Ти первосвященикові?

Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?	Ісус відповів йому: якщо Я сказав зле, то доведи, що зле, а коли добре, за що ти б’єш Мене?

Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore unto him, Art thou also one of his disciples? He therefore denied, and said, I am not.	А Симон-Петро стояв і грівся. Тут сказали йому: чи не з учеників Його і ти? Він відрікся і сказав: ні.

One of the servants of the high priest, being a kinsman of him whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?	Один з рабів первосвященика, родич того, якому Петро відсік вухо, говорить: чи я не бачив тебе з Ним у саду?

Peter therefore denied again: and straightaway the cock crowed.	Петро знову відрікся, і зараз же заспівав півень.

They lead Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium: and it was early; and they themselves entered not into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but that they might eat the passover.	Від Каяфи повели Ісуса до преторії. Був ранок; і вони не ввійшли у преторію, щоб не осквернитися, але щоб можна було їсти паску.

that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying by what manner of death he should die.	щоб справдилося слово Ісусове, яке Він сказав, даючи зрозуміти, якою смертю мав померти.

Pilate therefore entered into the Praetorium again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?	Тоді Пилат знову ввійшов у преторію, покликав Ісуса і сказав Йому: чи не Ти Цар Юдейський?

Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this of thyself, or did others tell it thee concerning me?	Ісус відповів йому: чи від себе ти говориш це, чи інші сказали тобі про Мене?

Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?	Пилат відповів: хіба я юдей? Твій народ і первосвященики видали Тебе мені; що Ти зробив?

Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.	Ісус відповів: Царство Моє не від світу цього: якби від світу цього було Царство Моє, то слуги Мої змагалися б за Мене, щоб Я не був виданий юдеям; але нині Царство Моє не звідси.

Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end have I been born, and to this end am I come into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Everyone that is of the truth heareth my voice.	Пилат сказав Йому: отже, Ти Цар? Ісус відповів: ти говориш, що Я Цар. Я для того народився і для того прийшов у світ, щоб свідчити про істину; кожен, хто від істини, слухається голосу Мого.

Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find no crime in him.	Пилат сказав Йому: що є істина? І, сказавши це, знову вийшов до юдеїв і сказав їм: я ніякої провини не знаходжу в Ньому.

But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?	Є ж у вас звичай, щоб я одного відпускав вам на Пасху; чи хочете, відпущу вам Царя Юдейського?

They all cried out therefore again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.	Тоді знову закричали всі, кажучи: не Його, а Варавву. Варавва ж був розбійник.
Chapter 19	Глава 19

Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.	Тоді Пилат узяв Ісуса і звелів бити Його.

And the soldiers plaited a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and arrayed him in a purple garment,	І воїни, сплівши вінець з терну, поклали Йому на голову, і одягли Його в багряницю,

and said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they struck him with their hands.	і говорили: радуйся, Царю Юдейський! І били Його по щоках.

Pilate therefore went out again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him out to you, that ye may know that I find no crime in him.	Пилат знову вийшов і сказав їм: ось я виводжу Його до вас, щоб ви знали, що я не знаходжу в Ньому ніякої провини.

Jesus therefore came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple garment. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold, the man!	Тоді вийшов Ісус у терновому вінці і в багряниці. І сказав їм Пилат: це — Чоловік!

When therefore the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify, crucify him! Pilate saith unto them, Take him yourselves, and crucify him: for I find no crime in him.	Коли ж побачили Його первосвященики і слуги, то закричали: розіпни, розіпни Його! Пилат говорить їм: візьміть Його ви, і розіпніть; бо я не знаходжу в Ньому провини.

The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.	Юдеї відповіли йому: ми маємо закон, і за законом нашим Він повинен умерти, тому що зробив Себе Сином Божим.

When Pilate therefore heard this saying, he was the more afraid;	Пилат же, почувши це слово, ще більше злякався.

and he entered into the Praetorium again, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.	І знов увійшов у преторію і сказав Ісусові: звідки Ти? Але Ісус відповіді не дав йому.

Pilate therefore saith unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?	Пилат же каже Йому: чи мені не відповідаєш? Хіба не знаєш, що я маю владу розіп’ясти Тебе, і владу маю відпустити Тебе?

Jesus answered, Thou wouldest have no power against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivereth me unto thee hath greater sin.	Ісус відповів: ти не мав би наді Мною ніякої влади, якби не було тобі дано звище. Тому більший гріх на тому, хто видав Мене тобі.

Upon this Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou release this man, thou art not Caesar’s friend: everyone that maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.	З того часу Пилат намагався відпустити Його. Юдеї ж кричали: якщо відпустиш Його, ти не друг кесареві; всякий, хто робить себе царем, противиться кесареві.

When Pilate therefore heard this word, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.	Пилат, почувши це слово, вивів Ісуса і сів на судилищі, на місці, що зветься ліфостротон^*, а по-єврейськи — гаввафа.

Now it was the Preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour. And he saith unto the Jews, Behold, your King!	Тоді була п’ятниця перед Пасхою, близько шостої години. І сказав Пилат юдеям: це Цар ваш!

But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him! Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.	Вони ж закричали: візьми, візьми і розіпни Його! Пилат говорить їм: чи Царя вашого розіпну? Первосвященики відповіли: немає в нас царя, крім кесаря.

Then therefore he delivered him unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.	І тоді він видав Його їм на розп’яття. І взяли Ісуса, і повели.

And he went out, bearing his cross, unto a place called The place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew Golgotha:	І, несучи хрест Свій, Він вийшов на місце, що зветься Лобне, по-єврейськи Голгофа;

where they crucified him, and with him two others, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.	там розіп’яли Його, і з Ним двох інших, з одного і другого боку, а посередині Ісуса.

And Pilate wrote a title also, and put it on the cross. And there was written, JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.	Пилат же написав і напис і виставив на хресті. Написано було: Ісус Назорей, Цар Юдейський.

This title therefore read many of the Jews, for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city; and it was written in Hebrew, and in Greek, and in Latin.	Цей напис читало багато юдеїв, тому що місце, де був розіп’ятий Ісус, було недалеко від міста, і написано було єврейською, грецькою, римською мовами.

The chief priests of the Jews therefore said to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but, that he said, I am King of the Jews.	Первосвященики ж юдейські сказали Пилатові: не пиши: Цар Юдейський, але що Він говорив: Я Цар Юдейський.

Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.	Пилат відповів: що я написав — те написав.

The soldiers therefore, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also the coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.	Воїни ж, коли розіп’яли Ісуса, взяли одяг Його і розділили на чотири частини, кожному воїнові по частині, і хітон. Хітон же був не зшитий, а весь зітканий згори.

They said therefore one to another, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my garments among them, And upon my vesture did they cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.	Вирішили між собою: не будемо роздирати його, а киньмо жереб на нього, кому буде, — щоб збулося сказане в Писанні: розділили ризи Мої між собою, за одяг Мій кидали жереб. Так воїни і зробили.

But there were standing by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.	Біля хреста Ісуса стояли Мати Його і сестра Матері Його, Марія Клеопова, і Марія Магдалина.

When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold, thy son!	Ісус, побачивши Матір і ученика, що тут стояв, якого любив, говорить до Матері Своєї: Жоно! Це — син Твій.

Then saith he to the disciple, Behold, thy mother! And from that hour the disciple took her unto his own home.	Потім каже ученикові: це — Мати твоя! І з цього часу ученик взяв Її до себе.

After this Jesus, seeing that all things are now finished, that the scripture might be accomplished, saith, I thirst.	Після того Ісус, знаючи, що вже усе звершилося, щоб справдилося Писання, говорить: пити!

Now there was set there a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and brought it to his mouth.	Стояла тут посудина, повна оцту. Воїни, намочивши оцтом губку і настромивши її на тростину, піднесли до уст Його.

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up his spirit.	Коли ж спробував оцту Ісус, сказав: звершилось! І, схиливши голову, віддав дух.

The Jews therefore, that the bodies should not remain on the cross upon the sabbath, because it was the Preparation (for the day of that sabbath was a high day), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.	А оскільки тоді була п’ятниця, то юдеї, щоб не залишати тіл на хресті в суботу [бо та субота була Великдень], просили Пилата, щоб перебити їхні голінки і зняти їх.

The soldiers therefore came, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other that was crucified with him:	Отже, прийшли воїни і в першого перебили голінки, і в другого, розіп’ятого з Ним.

but when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:	А коли, підійшовши до Ісуса, побачили, що Він уже помер, то не перебили в Нього голінок.

howbeit one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and straightaway there came out blood and water.	Але один з воїнів списом проколов Йому ребра, і відразу витекли кров і вода.

And he that hath seen hath borne witness, and his witness is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye may believe.	І той, що бачив, засвідчив, — і свідчення його правдиве. Він знає, що говорить правду, щоб ви повірили.

For these things came to pass, that the scripture might be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.	Бо це сталося, щоб справдилося Писання: кість не розломиться в Нього.

And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.	Також і в іншому місці Писання говориться: будуть дивитися на Того, Якого прокололи.

After these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked of Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took away the body of Jesus.	Після цього Йосиф з Аримафеї, ученик Ісуса, але таємний — з остраху перед юдеями, просив Пилата, щоб зняти тіло Ісуса; і Пилат дозволив. Він пішов і зняв тіло Ісуса.

And there came also Nicodemus, he who at the first came to Jesus by night, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.	Прийшов також і Никодим, який приходив раніше до Ісуса вночі, і приніс суміш смирни та алое, близько сотні літрів.

So they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.	Отже, вони взяли тіло Ісуса і обгорнули пеленами з пахощами, як за звичаєм поховання в юдеїв.

Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new tomb wherein was never man yet laid.	На тому місці, де Його розіп’яли, був сад, і в саду новий гріб, в якому ще ніхто ніколи не був покладений.

There then because of the Jews’ Preparation (for the tomb was nigh at hand) they laid Jesus.	Там і поклали Ісуса ради п’ятниці юдейської, тому що гріб був близько.
Chapter 20	Глава 20

Now on the first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, while it was yet dark, unto the tomb, and seeth the stone taken away from the tomb.	У перший же день після суботи Марія Магдалина приходить до гробу вранці, коли було ще темно, і бачить, що камінь відвалений від гробу.

She runneth therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we know not where they have laid him.	Отже, біжить і приходить до Симона-Петра та до іншого ученика, якого любив Ісус, і каже їм: узяли Господа з гробу і не знаємо, де поклали Його.

Peter therefore went forth, and the other disciple, and they went toward the tomb.	Негайно ж вийшли Петро та інший ученик і пішли до гробу.

And they ran both together: and the other disciple outran Peter, and came first to the tomb;	Вони бігли обидва разом; але інший ученик біг швидше за Петра і прибув до гробу перший.

and stooping and looking in, he seeth the linen cloths lying; yet entered he not in.	І, нахилившись, побачив, що лежать пелени; але не ввійшов.

Simon Peter therefore cometh, following him, and entered into the tomb; and he beholdeth the linen cloths lying,	Слідом за ним прийшов Симон-Петро, і ввійшов у гріб, і побачив одні лиш пелени, що лежали;

and the napkin, that was upon his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but rolled up in a place by itself.	а хустина, яка була на голові Його, лежала згорнена не з пеленами, а осторонь, на іншому місці.

Then entered in therefore the other disciple also, who came first to the tomb, and he saw, and believed.	Тоді ввійшов і інший ученик, що раніше прийшов до гробу, і побачив, і увірував.

For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.	Бо вони ще не знали Писання, що Йому належало воскреснути з мертвих.

So the disciples went away again unto their own home.	Тоді ученики знову повернулися до себе.

But Mary was standing at the tomb weeping without: so, as she wept, she stooped and looked into the tomb;	Марія стояла зовні біля гробу і плакала; і, коли плакала, нахилилася до гробу,

and she beholdeth two angels in white sitting, one at the head, and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.	і бачить двох ангелів у білому, що сиділи — один в головах, а другий в ногах, де лежало тіло Ісусове.

And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.	І вони кажуть їй: жоно, чого плачеш? Говорить їм: взяли Господа мого, і не знаю, де поклали Його.

And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and beholdeth Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.	Сказавши це, обернулася назад і побачила Ісуса, Який стояв, але не впізнала, що це Ісус.

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou hast borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.	Говорить їй Ісус: жоно, чого плачеш? Кого шукаєш? Вона, думаючи, що це садівник, каже Йому: господарю, якщо ти забрав Його, скажи мені, де ти поклав Його, і я візьму Його.

Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turneth herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Teacher.	Ісус говорить їй: Маріє! Вона, обернувшись, каже Йому: Раввуні! Що означає: Учителю!

Jesus saith to her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended unto my Father: but go unto my brethren, and say to them, I ascend unto my Father and your Father, and my God and your God.	Ісус говорить їй: не доторкайся до Мене, бо Я ще не зійшов до Отця Мого; а йди до братів Моїх і скажи їм: іду до Отця Мого і Отця вашого, і до Бога Мого і Бога вашого.

Mary Magdalene cometh and telleth the disciples that she had seen the Lord; and that he had said these things unto her.	Марія Магдалина прийшла і сповістила ученикам, що бачила Господа і що Він це сказав їй.

When therefore it was evening, on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were shut where the disciples were gathered together, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.	Того ж першого дня після суботи, ввечері, коли двері дому, де зібралися ученики Його, були замкнені з остраху перед юдеями, прийшов Ісус і став посередині, і каже їм: мир вам!

And when he had said this, he showed unto them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad, when they saw the Lord.	Сказавши це, Він показав їм руки, і ноги, і ребра Свої. Ученики зраділи, побачивши Господа.
21	21
Jesus therefore said to them again, Peace be unto you: as the Father hath sent me, even so send I you.	Ісус же сказав їм вдруге: мир вам! Як послав Мене Отець, так і Я посилаю вас.
22	22
And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Spirit:	Сказавши це, Він дихнув і говорить їм: прийміть Духа Святого.
23	23
whose soever sins ye forgive, they are forgiven unto them; whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.	Кому відпустите гріхи, тим відпустяться, на кому залишите, залишаться.

But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.	Фома ж, один з дванадцятьох, який звався Близнюком, не був тут з ними, коли приходив Ісус.

The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.	Інші ученики сказали йому: ми бачили Господа. Він же сказав їм: якщо не побачу на руках Його рани від цвяхів і не вкладу пальця мого в рани від цвяхів, і не вкладу руки моєї в ребра Його, не повірю.

And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them. Jesus cometh, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.	Через вісім днів ученики Його знову були в домі, й Фома з ними. Прийшов Ісус, коли двері були замкнені, став посеред них і сказав: мир вам!

Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and see my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and put it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.	Потім говорить Фомі: дай палець твій сюди і подивись на руки Мої; подай руку твою і вклади в ребра Мої, і не будь невірним, але вірним.

And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.	Фома у відповідь сказав Йому: Господь мій і Бог мій!

Jesus saith unto him, Because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.	Ісус говорить йому: ти повірив, тому що побачив Мене; блаженні ті, що не бачили й увірували.

Many other signs therefore did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:	Багато інших чудес сотворив Ісус перед учениками Своїми, про які не написано в цій книзі.

but these are written, that ye may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye may have life in his name.	Це ж написано, щоб ви увірували, що Ісус є Христос, Син Божий, і, віруючи, мали життя в ім’я Його.
Chapter 21	Глава 21

After these things Jesus manifested himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and he manifested himself on this wise.	Після того знову явився Ісус ученикам Своїм по воскресінні з мертвих біля моря Тиверіадського. Явився ж так:

There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.	були разом Симон-Петро, і Фома, званий Близнюком, і Нафанаїл з Кани галилейської, і сини Зеведеєві, і двоє інших з учеників Його.

Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also come with thee. They went forth, and entered into the boat immediately; and that night they took nothing.	Симон-Петро говорить їм: йду ловити рибу. Кажуть йому: йдемо і ми з тобою! Пішли і відразу ввійшли в човен, і не впіймали в ту ніч нічого.

But when morning was now come, Jesus stood on the beach: yet the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.	А коли вже настав ранок, Ісус стояв на березі; але ученики не впізнали, що це Ісус.

Jesus therefore saith unto them, Children, have ye aught to eat? They answered him, No.	Ісус говорить їм: діти, чи є у вас яка їжа? Вони відповіли: ні.

And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fish.	Він же сказав їм: закиньте сіті з правого боку човна і впіймаєте. Вони закинули, і вже не могли витягти через велику кількість риби.
7	7
That disciple therefore whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his coat about him (for he was naked), and cast himself into the sea.	Тоді ученик, якого любив Ісус, говорить Петрові: це Господь. Симон же Петро, почувши, що це Господь, оперезався одягом, бо він був нагий, і кинувся в море.

But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from the land, but about two hundred cubits off), dragging the net full of fish.	А інші ученики припливли човном, бо недалеко були від землі, ліктів близько двохсот, і тягли сіть з рибою.
9	9
So when they gat out upon the land, they see a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.	А коли вийшли на землю, бачать розкладене вогнище, і рибу, що на ньому лежала, і хліб.
10	10
Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now taken.	Ісус говорить їм: принесіть тієї риби, яку ви тепер упіймали.
11	11
Simon Peter went up, and drew the net up on the land, full of great fish, a hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, the net was not rent.	Симон-Петро пішов і витяг на землю сіть, повну великих рибин — сто п’ятдесят три; і від такої кількости риби не прорвалася сіть.
12	12
Jesus saith unto them, Come and break your fast. And none of the disciples durst inquire of him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.	Ісус говорить їм: ідіть обідайте. Ніхто ж з учеників не посмів запитати Його: хто Ти? Бо знали, що це Господь.
13	13
Jesus therefore cometh, and taketh the bread, and giveth them, and the fish likewise.	Ісус підходить, бере хліб і дає їм, також і рибу.
14	14
This is now the third time that Jesus was manifested to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.	Це вже втретє явився Ісус ученикам Своїм по воскресінні Своєму з мертвих.
15	15
So when they had broken their fast, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonah, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.	Коли ж вони обідали, Ісус каже Симону-Петрові: Симоне Іонин! Чи любиш ти Мене більше, ніж вони? Петро каже Йому: так, Господи! Ти знаєш, що я люблю Тебе. Ісус говорить йому: паси ягнят Моїх.
16	16
He saith to him again a second time, Simon, son of Jonah, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Tend my sheep.	Ще говорить йому вдруге: Симоне Іонин! Чи любиш ти Мене? Петро говорить Йому: так, Господи! Ти знаєш, що я люблю Тебе. Ісус говорить йому: паси вівці Мої.
17	17
He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonah, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.	Говорить йому втретє: Симоне Іонин! Чи любиш ти Мене? Петро засмутився, що втретє спитав його: чи любиш ти Мене? І сказав Йому: Господи! Ти все знаєш: Ти знаєш, що я люблю Тебе. Ісус говорить йому: паси вівці Мої.
18	18
Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.	Істинно, істинно кажу тобі: коли ти був молодий, то підперізувався сам і ходив, куди хотів; коли ж постарієш, то простягнеш руки твої й інший підпереже тебе і поведе, куди не хочеш.
19	19
Now this he spake, signifying by what manner of death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.	Це Він сказав, щоб зрозуміли, якою смертю Петро прославить Бога. І, сказавши це, говорить йому: йди за Мною.
20	20
But Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; who also leaned back on his breast at the supper, and said, Lord, who is he that betrayeth thee?	Петро ж, обернувшись, бачить, що йде за ним ученик, якого любив Ісус і який на вечері, припавши до грудей Його, сказав: Господи, хто видасть Тебе?

Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?	Побачивши його, Петро говорить Ісусові: Господи, а він що?

Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.	Ісус говорить йому: якщо Я хочу, щоб він залишився, доки прийду, що тобі до того? Ти йди за Мною.
23	23
This saying therefore went forth among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, that he should not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?	І рознеслося це слово поміж браттями, що ученик той не помре. Але Ісус не сказав йому, що не помре, але: якщо Я хочу, щоб він залишився, доки прийду, що тобі до того?
24	24
This is the disciple that beareth witness of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his witness is true.	Це той ученик, що свідчить про це і написав це; і знаємо, що правдиве свідчення його.
25	25
And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that should be written. Amen.	Багато й іншого сотворив Ісус; але, коли б написати про те докладно, то, думаю, і сам світ не вмістив би написаних книг. Амінь.
