| Now the children of Israel, that dwelt in Judea, heard all that Holofernes the chief captain of Nabuchodonosor king of the Assyrians had done to the nations, and after what manner he had spoiled all their temples, and brought them to nought.

| Therefore they were exceedingly afraid of him, and were troubled for Jerusalem, and for the temple of the Lord their God: | и3 ўбоsшасz ѕэлw2 t лицA є3гw2, и3 њ їерли1мэ и3 њ хрaмэ гDа бGа своегw2 смzт0шасz, |

| for they were newly returned from the captivity, and all the people of Judea were lately gathered together: and the vessels, and the altar, and the house, were sanctified after the profanation. | понeже недaвнw и3зыд0ша t плэнeніz и3 недaвнw вси2 лю1діе соврaшасz їудeйстіи, и3 сосyди и3 nлтaрь и3 д0мъ t њсквернeніz њсвzщє1на бhша. |

| Therefore they sent into all the coasts of Samaria, and the villages, and to Bethoron, and Belmen, and Jericho, and to Choba, and Esora, and to the valley of Salem: | И# послaша во всsкій предёлъ самарjи и3 кwнjи, и3 веfwрHна и3 велмeна и3 їеріхHна, и3 въ хwвY и3 є3сHру и3 во ю3д0ль сали1мскую, |

| and possessed themselves beforehand of all the tops of the high mountains, and fortified the villages that were in them, and laid up victuals for the provision of war: for their fields were of late reaped. | и3 предпріsша вс‰ верхи2 г0ръ выс0кихъ, и3 њгради1ша стэнaми сyщыz въ ни1хъ сeла, и3 tложи1ша на пи1щу ко приуготовлeнію брaни, ћкw недaвнw бhша полS и4хъ пож†та. |

| Also Joacim the high priest, which was in those days in Jerusalem, wrote to them that dwelt in Bethulia, and Betomestham, which is over against Esdraelon toward the open country, near to Dothaim, | И# писA їwакjмъ їерeй вели1кій, и4же бЁ во днeхъ џнэхъ во їеrли1мэ, живyщымъ во ветmлyи и3 ветомесfeмэ, и4же є4сть проти1ву є3сдрилHиа, на лицы2 п0лz сyщагw бли1з8 дwfаjма, |

| charging them to keep the passages of the hill country: for by them there was an entrance into Judea, and it was easy to stop them that would come up, because the passage was strait, for two men at the most. |

| And the children of Israel did as Joacim the high priest had commanded them, with the ancients of all the people of Israel, which dwelt at Jerusalem. |

| Then every man of Israel cried to God with great fervency, and with great vehemency did they humble their souls: | И# возопи1ша всsкій мyжъ ї}левъ къ бGу съ прилэжaніемъ вели1кимъ и3 смири1ша дyшы сво‰ въ прилэжaніи вели1цэмъ: |
10
10
| both they, and their wives, and their children, and their cattle, and every stranger and hireling, and their servants bought with money, put sackcloth upon their loins. |
11
11
| Thus every man and woman, and the little children, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, fell before the temple, and cast ashes upon their heads, and spread out their sackcloth before the face of the Lord: also they put sackcloth about the altar, | И# всsкій мyжъ ї}левъ и3 женA, и3 дёти, и3 жнвyщіи во ‡еrли1мэ пад0ша пред8 лицeмъ хрaма, и3 посhпаша пeрстію главы6 сво‰, и3 простр0ша врє1тища сво‰ пред8 лицeмъ гDнимъ, |
12
12
| and cried to the God of Israel all with one consent earnestly, that he would not give their children for a prey, and their wives for a spoil, and the cities of their inheritance to destruction, and the sanctuary to profanation and reproach, and for the nations to rejoice at. | и3 nлтaрь врeтищемъ њдёzша, и3 возопи1ша къ бGу ї}леву є3динодyшнw прилёжнw, є4же не дaти въ расхищeніе младeнцєвъ и4хъ, и3 жeнъ въ плэнeніе, и3 градHвъ наслёдіz и4хъ въ разорeніе, и3 с™†z во њсквернeніе и3 поношeніе, њбрaдованіе kзhкwмъ. |
13
13
| So God heard their prayers, and looked upon their afflictions: for the people fasted many days in all Judea and Jerusalem before the sanctuary of the Lord Almighty. |
14
14
| And Joacim the high priest, and all the priests that stood before the Lord, and they which ministered unto the Lord, had their loins girt with sackcloth, and offered the daily burnt offerings, with the vows and free gifts of the people, | И# їwакjмъ їерeй вели1кій, и3 вси2 предстоsщіи пред8 гDемъ, їерeє и3 служaщіи гDеви, врeтищами преиоsсани њ чрeслэхъ свои1хъ, приношaху всесожжeніе непрестaнное и3 њбёты и3 произвHльнаz да‰ніz людjй: |
15
15
| and had ashes on their mitres, and cried unto the Lord with all their power, that he would look upon all the house of Israel graciously. |
