По мaлэ же весьмA врeмени лmсjа, намёстннкъцарeвъ и3 ср0дникъ и3 къ дэлHмъ пристaвникъ, ѕэлw2 тsжцэ сносS бы6вшаz,	Not long after this, Lysias the king's protector and cousin, who also managed the affairs, took sore displeasure for the things that were done.

собрaвъ ѓки џсмьдесzтъ тhсzщъ и3 конники вс‰, пріи1де на їудeєвъ, помышлsz ќбw грaдъ є4ллинwмъ њбитaлище,	And when he had gathered about fourscore thousand with all the horsemen, he came against the Jews, thinking to make the city an habitation of the Gentiles,

хрaмъ же сребродaненъ сотвори1ти, ћкоже и3 пр0чіихъ kзы6къ к†пища, и3 по вс‰ лBта продавaти ґрхіерeйство,	and to make a gain of the temple, as of the other chapels of the heathen, and to set the high priesthood to sale every year:

никaкоже помышлzю б9ію держaву безyмнw ўповaz на тмы6 пэбшцє1въ и3 на тhсzщы к0нникwвъ и3 на џсмьдесzтъ слонHвъ.	not at all considering the power of God, but puffed up with his ten thousands of footmen, and his thousands of horsemen, and his fourscore elephants.

Вшeдъ же во їудeю и3 прибли1живсz ко веfсyрэ, къ мёсту ќбw крёпкому сyщу, t їеrли1ма же tстоzщему ћкw стjдій пsть, сіE ўтэснsше.	So he came to Judea, and drew near to Bethsura, which was a strong town, but distant from Jerusalem about five furlongs, and he laid sore siege unto it.

Е#гдa же познA маккавeй и3 и5же съ ни1мъ рaтующа є3го2 тверды6ни, съ плaчемъ и3 слезaми молsху гDа со всёмъ нар0домъ, бlгaго ѓгGла послaти ко сп7сeнію ї}лz.	Now when they that were with Maccabeus heard that he besieged the holds, they and all the people with lamentation and tears besought the Lord that he would send a good angel to deliver Israel.

Сaмъ же маккавeй пeрвый взsвъ nрyжіе ўвэщавaше пр0чихъ вкпэ съ ни1мъ бёдство под8sти, є4же помогaти брaтіи своeй: вкyпэ же и3 со ќсeрдмъ ўстреми1шасz.	Then Maccabeus himself first of all took weapons, exhorting the other that they would jeopard themselves together with him to help their brethren: so they went forth together with a willing mind.

Тaмw же, и3 бли1з8 їеrли1ма сyщымъ, kви1сz предводsй и4хъ к0нникъ во nдeжди бёлэ всеoрyжіе злат0е потрzсaющь.	And as they were at Jerusalem, there appeared before them on horseback one in white clothing, shaking his armour of gold.

Вкyпэ же вси2 благослови1ша млcрдаго бGа и3 ўкрэпи1шасz душaми, не т0чію человёкwвъ, но и3 ѕвэрeй лютёйшихъ и3 стёны жєлёзны сокрушaти сyще гот0ви,	Then they praised the merciful God all together, and took heart, insomuch that they were ready not only to fight with men, but with most cruel beasts, and to pierce through walls of iron.

и3дsху во ўстроeніи съ нб7се споб0рника и3мёюще, ми1лующу и5хъ гDу:	Thus they marched forward in their armour, having an helper from heaven: for the Lord was merciful unto them.

львоwбрaзнw же ўстрэми1вшесz на супостaты, положи1ша t ни1хъ є3ди1нонaдесzть тhсzщъ пэшцє1въ, к0нникwвъ же тhсщу и3 шeсть сHтъ,	And giving a charge upon their enemies like lions, they slew eleven thousand footmen, and sixteen hundred horsemen, and put all the other to flight.

всёхе же понyдиша бэжaти: мн0зи же t ни1хъ ћзвени нaзи ўцэлёша, и3 сaмъ лmсjа стyднw бэжaвъ спасeсz.	Many of them also being wounded escaped naked; and Lysias himself fled away shamefully, and so escaped.

Не без8 ўмa же сhй, размышлsz въ себЁ бhвшее на себE поражeніе и1 ўразумёвъ непобэди1мыхъ бhти є3врewвъ, всемогyщему бGу споб0рствующему и5мъ, послaвъ	Who, as he was a man of understanding, casting with himself what loss he had had, and considering that the Hebrews could not be overcome, because the Almighty God helped them, he sent unto them,

ўвэщавaше, ћкw и4мать примири1тисz во всёхъ прaведныхъ и3 ћкw совётуz прекли3 царS, да бyдетъ и5мъ дрyгъ.	and persuaded them to agree to all reasonable conditions, and promised that he would persuade the king that he must needs be a friend unto them.

Соизв0ли же маккавeй њ всёхъ, њ ни1хже лmсjа молsше, њ полезныхъ радsщь: є3ли6ка бо маккавeй дадE лmсjа на писмЁ њ їудeехъ, соизв0ли цaрь.	Then Maccabeus consented to all that Lysias desired, being careful of the common good; and whatsoever Maccabeus wrote unto Lysias concerning the Jews, the king granted it.

Бёша бо пис†ніz їудеємъ пHсланаz t лmсjи, и3мyщаz w4бразъ сицeвъ, лmсjа мн0жеству їудeйску рaдоватисz:	For there were letters written unto the Jews from Lysias to this effect: Lysias unto the people of the Jews sendeth greeting:

їwaннъ и3 ґвессалHмъ, и5же п0слани сyть t вaсъ, даю6ща напи1санный tвётъ, прошaста њ назнaменанныхъ въ нeмъ:	John and Absalon, who were sent from you, delivered me the petition subscribed, and made request for the performance of the contents thereof.

є3ли6ка u5бо подобaше царю2 предложи1ти, и3звэсти1хъ, и3 ±же бsху прі‰тна, соизв0ли:	Therefore what things soever were meet to be reported to the king, I have declared them, and he hath granted as much as might be.

ѓще u5бо въ дёлэхъ вёрность соблюдетE, то2 и3 въ пр0чее покушyсz вин0венъ вaмъ бhти благи1хъ:	If then ye will keep yourselves loyal to the state, hereafter also will I endeavour to be a means of your good.

њ си1хъ же подр0бну заповёдахъ си1ма и3 пHсланнымъ t меиє2 побесёдовати съ вaми:	But of the particulars I have given order both to these, and the other that came from me, to commune with you.

здрaвствуйте. Лёта сто2 четhредесzть nсмaгw, (мцcа) діоскорjнfіа, днE двaдесzть четвeртагw.	Fare ye well. The hundred and eight and fortieth year, the four and twentieth day of the month Dioscorinthius.

Цaрское же послaніе содержaше сі‰: цaрь ґнті0хъ лmсjи брaту рaдоватисz:	Now the king's letter contained these words: King Antiochus unto his brother Lysias sendeth greeting:

nтцY нaшему въ б0ги премёншусz, мы2 хотsще во цaрствіи сyщихъ безмzтeжныхъ бhти и3 њ свои1хъ прилэжaти,	since our father is translated unto the gods, our will is, that they that are in our realm live quietly, that every one may attend upon his own affairs.

слhшахомъ їудє1й не соблаговолsющихъ nтцA моегw2 повелёнію, є4же премэни1тисz и5мъ на є4ллинскіz зак0ны, но и3зволsющихъ держaти сво‰ зaпwвэди и тогw2 рaди молsщихъ, да дaруютсz и5мъ закHннаz и4хъ:	We understand also that the Jews would not consent to our father, for to be brought unto the customs of the Gentiles, but had rather keep their own manner of living: for the which cause they require of us, that we should suffer them to live after their own laws.

хотsще ќбw и3 семY kзhку без8 мzтeжа бhти, суди1хомъомъ и3 хрaмъ и5мъ возврати1ти и3 жи1ти по прароди1тєлскимъ и4хъ њбhчаємъ:	Wherefore our mind is, that this nation shall be in rest, and we have determined to restore them their temple, that they may live according to the customs of their forefathers.

блaгw u5бо сотвори1ши, ѓще п0слеши къ ни6мъ и3 десни1цу дaси, ћкw да познавше нaше произволeніе, благодyшни бyдутъ и3 безпечaльнw пребyдутъ ко своемY њхранeнію.	Thou shalt do well therefore to send unto them, and grant them peace, that when they are certified of our mind, they may be of good comfort, and ever go cheerfully about their own affairs.

Ко їудewмъ же цaрское послaніе сицево2 бЁ: цaрь ґнті0хъ старёйшинамъ їудє1йскимъ и3 прочымъ їудewмъ рaдоватисz:	And the letter of the king unto the nation of the Jews was after this manner: King Antiochus sendeth greeting unto the council, and the rest of the Jews;

ѓще здрaвствуете, да бyдетъ ћкоже х0щемъ, и3 сaми здрaвствуемъ:	If ye fare well, we have our desire; we are also in good health.

и3з8zви2 нaмъ менелaй, ћкw х0щете tшeдше бhти съ вaшими:	Menelaus declared unto us, that your desire was to return home, and to follow your own business:

приходsщhмъ ќбw дaже до днE тридесsтагw мцcа занfjка, дади1мъ десни1цу без8 њпасeніz:	wherefore they that will depart shall have safe conduct till the thirtieth day of Xanthicus with security.

є4же ўпотреблsти їудewмъ свои1хъ брaшенъ и3 зак0нwвъ, ћкоже и3 прeжде, и3 ни є3ди1нъ и5мъ ни по є3ди1ному w4бразу стужи1ти и4мать њ содёzнныхъ въ невёдэніи:	And the Jews shall use their own kind of meats and laws, as before: and none of them any manner of ways shall be molested for things ignorantly done.

послaхомъ же и3 менелaа и3мyщаго ўтёшити вaсъ:	I have sent also Menelaus, that he may comfort you.

здрaвствуйте. Лёта сто2 четhредесzть nсмaгw, xанfjка (мцcа), пzтагwнaдесzть днE.	Fare ye well. In the hundred forty and eighth year, and the fifteenth day of the month Xanthicus.

Послaша же и3 ри1млzне къ ни6мъ послaніе и3мёющее сі‰: квjнтъ мeммій и3 тjтъ мaнлій, старBйшины ри1мстіи, лю1демъ їудє1йскимъ рaдоватисz:	The Romans also sent unto them a letter containing these words: Quintus Memmius and Titus Manlius, ambassadors of the Romans, send greeting unto the people of the Jews.

њ ни1хже лmсjа ср0дникъ царeвъ соизв0ли вaмъ, и3 мы2 соблаговолsемъ:	Whatsoever Lysias the king's cousin hath granted, therewith we also are well pleased.

ґ ±же суди2 предложи1ти царю2, скорёе посли1те кого2 созирaюще њ си1хъ, да ўстaвитъ, ћкоже подобaетъ вaмъ, мы бо и4демъ ко ґнтіохjи:	But touching such things as he judged to be referred to the king, after ye have advised thereof, send one forthwith, that we may declare as it is convenient for you: for we are now going to Antioch.

сегw2 рaди ўскори1те и3 посли1те нёкіихъ, да и3 мы2 ўвёмы, к0еz є3стE мhсли:	Therefore send some with speed, that we may know what is your mind.

Здрaвствуйте. Лёта сто2 четhредесzть nсмaгw, пzтагwнaдесzть днE (мцcа) xанfjка.	Farewell. This hundred and eight and fortieth year, the fifteenth day of the month Xanthicus.
