And after these things, when Artaxerxes the king of the Persians reigned, came Esdras the son of Azaraias, the son of Zechrias, the son of Helchias, the son of Salum, И# по си1хъ, цaрствующу ґртаxeрxу царю2 пeрсскому, приступи2 є4здра сhнъ сарjинъ, є3зерjевъ, хелкjевъ, салyмовъ,

the son of Sadduc, the son of Achitob, the son of Amarias, the son of Ozias, the son of Boccas, the son of Abisai, the son of Phinees, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest.

3
This Esdras went up from Babylon, as a scribe, being very ready in the law of Moses, that was given by the God of Israel.

4
And the king did him honour: for he found grace in his sight in all his requests. и3 дадE є3мY цaрь слaву, њбрётшему благодaть пред8 ни1мъ, над8 всёми дост0инствы є3гw2.
5
5
There went up with him also certain of the children of Israel, of the priests, of the Levites, of the holy singers, porters, and ministers of the temple, unto Jerusalem, И# взыд0ша вкyпэ съ ни1мъ t сынHвъ ї}левыхъ, и3 свzщeнникwвъ и3 леvjтwвъ, и3 свzщеннопэвцє1въ и3 врaтарей и3 рабHвъ церк0вныхъ во їеrли1мъ,

6
in the seventh year of the reign of Artaxerxes, in the fifth month, this was the king's seventh year; for they went from Babylon in the first day of the first month, and came to Jerusalem, according to the prosperous journey which the Lord gave to him. лёта седмaгw цaрствующу ґртаxeрxу въ пsтый мцcъ: то2 лёто седм0е царю2: и3зшeдше бо и3з8 вавmлHна въ новомчcіи пeрвагw мцcа, пріид0ша во їеrли1мъ по дaнному и5мъ поспёху въ пyть t гDа:
7
7
For Esdras had very great skill, so that he omitted nothing of the law and commandments of the Lord, but taught all Israel the ordinances and judgments. и4бо є4здра мн0гое свёдэніе њбдержaше, дабы2 ничто2 њстaвити сyщихъ t зак0на гDнz и3 t зaповэди, є4же научи1ти всего2 ї}лz всBмъ њправдaніємъ и3 судбaмъ.
8
8
Now the copy of the commission, which was written from Artaxerxes the king, and came to Esdras the priest and reader of the law of the Lord, is this that followeth; Пріи1де же напи1санное повелёніе t ґртаxeрxа царS ко є4здрэ свzщeннику и3 чтецY зак0на гDнz, є3гHже є4сть списaніе подлежaщее:

9
King Artaxerxes unto Esdras the priest and reader of the law of the Lord sendeth greeting: цaрь ґртаxeрxъ є4здрэ свzщeннику и3 чтецY зак0на гDнz рaдоватисz:
10
10
Having determined to deal graciously, I have given order, that such of the nation of the Jews, and of the priests and Levites, being within our realm, as are willing and desirous, should go with thee unto Jerusalem.
11
11
As many therefore as have a mind thereunto, let them depart with thee, as it hath seemed good both to me and my seven friends the counsellors;
12
12
that they may look unto the affairs of Judea and Jerusalem, agreeably to that which is in the law of the Lord;
13
13
and carry the gifts unto the Lord of Israel to Jerusalem, which I and my friends have vowed, and all the gold and silver that in the country of Babylon can be found, to the Lord in Jerusalem, и3 да вн0сzтъ дaры гDу ї}леву, и5хже њбэщaхъ ѓзъ и3 дрyзи во їеrли1мъ, и3 всE злaто и3 сребро2, є4же њбрётено бyдетъ во странЁ вавmлHнстэй, гDу во їеrли1мъ, съ даровaннымъ t kзhка во свzти1лище гDа бGа и4хъ, є4же во їеrли1мъ:
14
14
with that also which is given of the people for the temple of the Lord their God at Jerusalem: and that silver and gold may be collected for bullocks, rams, and lambs, and things thereunto appertaining; да соберeтсz злaто и3 сребро2 на ю3нцы2 и3 nвны2 и3 ѓгнцы, и3 ±же тBмъ послёдуютъ,
15
15
to the end that they may offer sacrifices unto the Lord upon the altar of the Lord their God, which is in Jerusalem.
16
16
And whatsoever thou and thy brethren will do with the silver and gold, that do, according to the will of thy God.
17
17
And the holy vessels of the Lord, which are given thee for the use of the temple of thy God, which is in Jerusalem, thou shalt set before thy God in Jerusalem.
18
18
And whatsoever thing else thou shalt remember for the use of the temple of thy God, thou shalt give it out of the king's treasury. и3 прHчаz, є3ли6ка ѓще тебЁ потрє1бна бyдутъ къ дэлHмъ хрaму бGа твоегw2, да дaси t цaрскагw сокр0вища:
19
19
And I king Artaxerxes have also commanded the keepers of the treasures in Syria and Phenice, that whatsoever Esdras the priest and the reader of the law of the most high God shall send for, they should give it him with speed, и3 ѓзъ цaрь ґртаxeрxъ повелёхъ стражє1мъ сокр0вища сmрjйскагw и3 фінікjйскагw, да, є3ли1кw напи1шетъ є4здра свzщeнникъ и3 чтeцъ зак0на гDа бGа вhшнzгw, прилёжнw даю1тъ є3мY, дaже до сребрA талaнтъ стA,
20
20

21
21
Let all things be performed after the law of God diligently unto the most high God, that wrath come not upon the kingdom of the king and his sons. и3 и4на премнHга вс‰ по зак0ну б9ію да совершaтсz съ поспэшeніемъ бGу вhшнему, да не востaнетъ гнёвъ на цaрство царeво и3 сынHвъ є3гw2:
22
22
I command you also, that ye require no tax, nor any other imposition, of any of the priests, or Levites, or holy singers, or porters, or ministers of the temple, or of any that have doings in this temple, and that no man have authority to impose any thing upon them. вaмъ же глаг0лю, да всBмъ свzщeнникwмъ и3 леvjтwмъ, и3 свzщеннопэвцє1мъ и3 врaтникwмъ, и3 рабHмъ церкHвнымъ и3 писцє1мъ цeркве тоS, ни є3ди1на дaнь, нижE и4на тzготA бyдетъ, и3 ни є3ди1ну влaсть и3мёти налагaти что2 на ни1хъ:
23
23
And thou, Esdras, according to the wisdom of God ordain judges and justices, that they may judge in all Syria and Phenice all those that know the law of thy God; and those that know it not thou shalt teach.
24
24
And whosoever shall transgress the law of thy God, and of the king, shall be punished diligently, whether it be by death, or other punishment, by penalty of money, or by imprisonment. и3 вси2 є3ли1цы престyпzтъ зак0нъ бGа твоегw2 и3 цaрскій тщaтелнw да накaжутсz, и3ли2 смeртію, и3ли2 кaзнію, и3ли2 сребрA лишeніемъ, и3ли2 и3згнaніемъ.
25
25
Then said Esdras the scribe, Blessed be the only Lord God of my fathers, who hath put these things into the heart of the king, to glorify his house that is in Jerusalem: И# речE є4здра книг0чій: блгcвeнъ є3ди1нъ гDь бGъ nтє1цъ мои1хъ, и5же дадE сі‰ въ сeрдце царeво прослaвити д0мъ є3гw2, и4же во їеrли1мэ,
26
26
and hath honoured me in the sight of the king, and his counsellors, and all his friends and nobles.
27
27
Therefore was I encouraged by the help of the Lord my God, and gathered together men of Israel to go up with me.
28
28
And these are the chief according to their families and several dignities, that went up with me from Babylon in the reign of king Artaxerxes: И# сjи предводи1теліе по свои1мъ nтeчествwмъ и3 начaлствwмъ, и5же и3зыд0ша со мн0ю и3з8 вавmлHна въ цaрство ґртаxeрxа царS:
29

41
41
And these I gathered together to the river called Theras, where we pitched our tents three days: and then I surveyed them.
42
42
But when I had found there none of the priests and Levites, И# t сынHвъ свzщeнничихъ и3 t леvjтскихъ не њбрётъ тaмw,
43
43
then sent I unto Eleazar, and Iduel, and Mæa, and Masman, послaхъ ко є3леазaру и3 їдуи1лу, и3 маазмaну и3 ґлнаfaну, и3 мамeю и3 самeю и3 їwрjву, наfaну, є3ннатaну, захaріи и3 месуллaму, предводи1телємъ и3 ўчє1нымъ,
44
44
and Alnathan, and Samaias, and Joribas, and Nathan, Ennatan, Zacharias, and Mosollamus, principal men and learned.
45
45
And I bade them that they should go unto Loddeus the captain, who was in the place of the treasury: заповёдавъ и5мъ рещи2 доддeю и3 брaтіи є3гw2 и3 сyщымъ на мёстэ сокровищехрани1телємъ, да п0слютъ къ нaмъ свzщeнствовати и3мyщихъ въ домY (гDа) бGа нaшегw.
46
46
and commanded them that they should speak unto Loddeus, and to his brethren, and to the treasurers in that place, to send us such men as might execute the priests' office in the house of the Lord. И# привед0ша къ нaмъ держaвною рук0ю гDа бGа нaшегw мyжы ўчє1ны t сынHвъ моолjа сhна леvjина, сhна ї}лева, ґсевевjю и3 сынHвъ є3гw2 и3 брaтію nсмьнaдесzть,
47
47
And by the mighty hand of our Lord they brought unto us skilful men of the sons of Mooli the son of Levi, the son of Israel, Asebebia, and his sons, and his brethren, who were eighteen.
48
48
And Asebia, and Annuus, and Osaias his brother, of the sons of Chanuneus, and their sons, were twenty men.
49
49
And of the servants of the temple whom David had ordained, and the principal men for the service of the Levites to wit, the servants of the temple, two hundred and twenty, the catalogue of whose names were shewed. И# њбэщaхъ тY п0стъ ю4ношамъ пред8 гDемъ бGомъ нaшимъ,
50
50
And there I vowed a fast unto the young men before our Lord, to desire of him a prosperous journey both for us and them that were with us, for our children, and for the cattle: да взhщемъ t негw2 бlгjй пyть нaмъ и3 сyщымъ съ нaми чaдwмъ нaшымъ и3 скотHмъ.
51
51
for I was ashamed to ask the king footmen, and horsemen, and conduct for safeguard against our adversaries. Ўсрами1хбосz проси1ти t царS пёшихъ и3 к0нникwвъ и3 проводникHвъ рaди њхранeніz нaмъ t супост†тъ,
52
52
For we had said unto the king, that the power of the Lord our God should be with them that seek him, to support them in all ways.
53
53
And again we besought our Lord as touching these things, and found him favourable unto us. И# пaки помоли1хомсz гDу бGу нaшему њ си1хъ и3 млcтива получи1хомъ.
54
54
Then I separated twelve of the chief of the priests, Esebrias, and Samias, and ten men of their brethren with them: И# tлучи1хъ t племеноначaлникwвъ и3 свzщeнникwвъ мужeй дванaдесzть є3севрjю и3 ґссамjю и3 съ ни1ми t брaтіи и4хъ мужeй дeсzть,
55
55
and I weighed them the gold, and the silver, and the holy vessels of the house of our Lord, which the king, and his council, and the princes, and all Israel, had given. и3 и3звёсихъ и5мъ сребро2, злaто и3 сосyды свzщє1нныz д0му бGа нaшегw, ±же даровA цaрь и3 совBтницы є3гw2 и3 вельмHжи и3 вeсь ї}ль:
56
56
And when I had weighed it, I delivered unto them six hundred and sixty talents of silver, and silver vessels of an hundred talents, and an hundred talents of gold, и3 и3звёсивъ предaхъ и5мъ сребрA тал†нтъ шeсть сHтъ пzтьдесsтъ, и3 сос{дъ срeбрzныхъ тал†нтъ сто2, и3 злaта тал†нтъ сто2, и3 сосyдwвъ позлащeнныхъ двaдесzть, и3 сосyдwвъ мёдzныхъ t и3збрaнныz мёди блещaщихсz златови1дныхъ, сосyдwвъ дванaдесzть,
57
57
and twenty golden vessels, and twelve vessels of brass, even of fine brass, glittering like gold. и3 рек0хъ и5мъ: и3 вы2 свsти є3стE гDу, и3 сосyди свsти, и3 злaто и3 сребро2 њбэщaнное гDу бGу nтє1цъ нaшихъ:
58
58
And I said unto them, Both ye are holy unto the Lord, and the vessels are holy, and the gold and the silver is a vow unto the Lord, the Lord of our fathers. бди1те и3 храни1те, д0ндеже воздади1те вы2 вс‰ племеноначaлникwмъ свzщeнникwвъ и3 леvjтwвъ и3 начaлникwмъ nтeчествъ ї}левыхъ во їеrли1мэ въ сосудохрани1телницэ д0му бGа нaшегw.
59
59
Watch ye, and keep them till ye deliver them to the chief of the priests and Levites, and to the principal men of the families of Israel, in Jerusalem, into the chambers of the house of our God.
60
60
So the priests and the Levites, who had received the silver and the gold and the vessels that were in Jerusalem, brought them into the temple of the Lord. И# воздви1гшесz t рэки2 fеры2 въ дванадесsтый дeнь пeрвагw мцcа, внид0хомъ во їеrли1мъ съ крёпкою рук0ю гDа нaшегw, ћже съ нaми: и3 и3збaви нaсъ гDь t и3сх0да пути2 t всёхъ вр†гъ, и3 пріид0хомъ во їеrли1мъ.
61
61
And from the river Theras we departed the twelfth day of the first month, and came to Jerusalem by the mighty hand of our Lord, which was with us: and from the beginning of our journey the Lord delivered us from every enemy, and so we came to Jerusalem. И# є3гдA бhсть тaмw трeтій дeнь, въ четвeртый дeнь и3змёреное злaто и3 сребро2 прeдано въ д0мъ гDа бGа нaшегw мармHfэ сhну ўрjину свzщeннику,
62
62
And when we had been there three days, the gold and silver that was weighed was delivered in the house of our Lord on the fourth day unto Marmothi the priest the son of Uria. и3 съ ни1мъ (бЁ) є3леазaръ сhнъ фінеeсовъ, и3 бhста съ ни1ма їwсавaдъ сhнъ їисyсовъ и3 мwи1fъ саваннjевъ сhнъ, леvjтzне: вс‰ по числY и3 вёсу, и3 напи1санъ бhсть вeсь вёсъ и4хъ въ т0й чaсъ.
63
63
And with him was Eleazar the son of Phinees, and with them were Josabad the son of Jesu and Moeth the son of Sabban, Levites: all was delivered them by number and weight. Пришeдшіи же t плэнeніz принес0ша жє1ртвы бGу ї}леву ю3нє1цъ дванaдесzть за вeсь ї}ль, nвє1нъ дeвzтьдесzтъ шeсть, ѓгнєцъ сeдмьдесzтъ двA, козлHвъ за спасeніе дванaдесzть вс‰ въ жeртву гDню.
64
64
And all the weight of them was written up the same hour. И# tдaша повєлёніz царє1ва царє1вымъ строи1телємъ и3 є3пaрхwмъ кілисmрjи и3 фінікjи, и3 почт0ша kзhкъ и3 хрaмъ гDень.
65
65
Moreover they that were come out of the captivity offered sacrifice unto the Lord God of Israel, even twelve bullocks for all Israel, fourscore and sixteen rams,
66
66
threescore and twelve lambs, goats for a peace-offering, twelve; all of them a sacrifice to the Lord.
67
67
And they delivered the king's commandments unto the king's stewards, and to the governors of Celosyria and Phenice; and they honoured the people and the temple of God.

Now when these things were done, the rulers came unto me, and said, И# ѓбіе, є3гдA ўслhшахъ сі‰, раздрaхъ њдэ‰ніz и3 свzщeнную ри1зу, и3 терзaхъ власы2 главы2 и3 брады2, и3 сэдёхъ ск0рбенъ и3 печaленъ,

The nation of Israel, the princes, the priests and the Levites, have not put away from them the strange people of the land, nor their pollutions from the Gentiles, to wit, the Canaanites, Hittites, Pheresites, Jebusites, and the Moabites, Egyptians, and Edomites. И# собрaшасz ко мнЁ, є3ли1цы тогдA подвизaхусz во сл0вэ гDа бGа ї}лева, мнЁ плaчущу њ беззак0ніи, и3 сэдёхъ ск0рбенъ дaже до вечeрніz жeртвы:
70
70
For both they and their sons have married with their daughters, and the holy seed is mixed with the strange people of the land; and from the beginning of this matter the rulers and the great men have been partakers of this iniquity.
71
71
And as soon as I had heard these things, I rent my clothes, and the holy garment, and pulled off the hair from off my head and beard, and sat me down sad and very heavy.
72
72
So all they that were then moved at the word of the Lord God of Israel assembled unto me, whilst I mourned for the iniquity: but I sat still full of heaviness until the evening sacrifice. грэси1 бо нaши ўмн0жишасz вhше глaвъ нaшихъ, и3 без{міz н†ша воздвиг0шасz дaже до небесE,
73
73
Then rising up from the fast with my clothes and the holy garment rent, and bowing my knees, and stretching forth my hands unto the Lord, є3щE t времeнъ nтє1цъ нaшихъ, и3 є3смы2 въ вели1цэ грэсЁ дaже до днE сегw2:
74
74
I said, O Lord, I am confounded and ashamed before thy face; и3 рaди грBхъ нaшихъ и3 nтє1цъ нaшихъ прeдани є3смы2 со брaтіzми нaшими и3 съ царьми2 нaшими и3 со свzщє1нники нaшими царє1мъ зємнhмъ въ мeчь и3 плэнeніе и3 въ граблeніе со стыдёніемъ дaже до днeшнzгw днE:
75
75
for our sins are multiplied above our heads, and our ignorances have reached up unto heaven. и3 нн7э коли1ко бhсть нaмъ млcрдіе t тебє2, гDи б9е, є4же њстaвити нaмъ к0рень и3 и4мz на мёстэ с™hни твоеS
76
76
For ever since the time of our fathers we have been and are in great sin, even unto this day. и3 є4же tкрhти свэти1лникъ нaмъ въ домY гDа бGа нaшегw, дaти нaмъ пи1щу во врeмz раб0ты нaшеz: и3 є3гдA служи1хомъ, не бhхомъ њстaвлени t гDа бGа нaшегw,
77
77
And for our sins and our fathers' we with our brethren and our kings and our priests were given up unto the kings of the earth, to the sword, and to captivity, and for a prey with shame, unto this day. но постaви нaсъ во благодaти пред8 цари6 пeрсскими дaти нaмъ пи1щу,
78
78
And now in some measure hath mercy been shewed unto us from thee, O Lord, that there should be left us a root and a name in the place of thy sanctuary; и3 прослaвити хрaмъ гDа нaшегw, и3 воздви1гнути њпустошeнный сіHнъ, дaти нaмъ твердhню во їудeи и3 їеrли1мэ:
79
79
and to discover unto us a light in the house of the Lord our God, and to give us food in the time of our servitude.
80
80
Yea, when we were in bondage, we were not forsaken of our Lord; but he made us favoured before the kings of Persia, so that they gave us food;
81
81
yea, and honoured the temple of our Lord, and raised up the desolate Sion, so that they have given us a sure abiding in Jewry and Jerusalem.
82
82
And now, O Lord, what shall we say, having these things? for we have transgressed thy commandments, which thou gavest by the hand of thy servants the prophets, saying, и3 не взыщи1те ми1ра и3мёти съ ни1ми во всE врeмz, да ўкрэпи1вшесz kди1те благ†z земли2 и3 достоsніе раздэлsете сыновHмъ вaшымъ дaже до вёка:
83
83
That the land, which ye enter into to possess as an heritage, is a land polluted with the pollutions of the strangers of the land, and they have filled it with their uncleanness. и3 ±же случaютсz нaмъ, вс‰ бывaютъ рaди дёлъ нaшихъ лукaвыхъ и3 вели1кихъ грBхъ нaшихъ: тh бо, гDи, њблегчи1лъ є3си2 грэхи2 нaшz
84
84
Therefore now shall ye not join your daughters unto their sons, neither shall ye take their daughters unto your sons. и3 дaлъ є3си2 нaмъ сицевhй к0рень, и3 пaки њбрати1хомсz преступи1ти зак0нъ тв0й, є4же смэси1тисz съ нечистот0ю kзы6къ зeмскихъ:
85
85
Moreover ye shall never seek to have peace with them, that ye may be strong, and eat the good things of the land, and that ye may leave the inheritance of the land unto your children for evermore. не прогнёвалсz ли є3си2 на ны2 погуби1ти нaсъ, д0ндеже не њстaнетсz к0рень и3 сёмz и3 и4мz нaше;
86
86
And all that is befallen is done unto us for our wicked works and great sins: for thou, O Lord, didst make our sins light, гDи б9е ї}левъ, и4стиненъ є3си2, њстaхомсz бо к0рень до днeшнzгw днE:
87
87
and didst give unto us such a root: but we have turned back again to transgress thy law, and to mingle ourselves with the uncleanness of the nations of the land.
88
88
Mightest not thou be angry with us to destroy us, till thou hadst left us neither root, seed, nor name? И# є3гдA молsсz є4здра и3сповёдашесz, плaчущь на земли2 ни1цъ простeртъ пред8 хрaмомъ, собрaшасz къ немY t їеrли1ма нар0дъ мн0гъ ѕэлw2, мyжіе и3 жєны2, и3 ю4нwши и3 ю4нwты: плaчь бо бhсть вели1къ въ т0мъ мн0жествэ.
89
89
O Lord of Israel, thou art true: for we are left a root this day.
90
90
Behold, now are we before thee in our iniquities, for we cannot stand any longer by reason of these things before thee. въ т0мъ да бyдетъ нaмъ клsтва пред8 гDемъ, є4же и3згнaти всёхъ жeнъ нaшихъ, ±же t и3ноплемeнныхъ, со чaды и4хъ, ћкоже суди1сz тебЁ, и3 є3ли1цы повинyютсz зак0ну гDню:
91
91
And as Esdras in his prayer made his confession, weeping, and lying flat upon the ground before the temple, there gathered unto him from Jerusalem a very great multitude of men and women and children: for there was great weeping among the multitude.
92
92
Then Jechonias the son of Jeelus, one of the children of Israel, called out and said, O Esdras, we have sinned against the Lord; we have married strange women of the nations of the land, and now is all Israel aloft.
93
Let us make an oath to the Lord, that we will put away all our wives, which we have taken of the heathen, with their children,
94
like as thou hast decreed, and as many as do obey the law of the Lord.
95
Arise, and put into execution: for to thee doth this matter appertain, and we will be with thee: do valiantly.
96
So Esdras arose, and took an oath of the chief of the priests and Levites of all Israel to do after these things; and so they sware.
