| Josias was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Jedia, daughter of Edeia of Basuroth. | Восьми років був Іосія, коли став царем, і тридцять один рік царював у Єрусалимі; ім’я матері його Ієдида, дочка Адаії, з Боцкафи. |

| And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all the way of David his father; he turned not aside to the right hand or to the left. | І робив він угодне в очах Господніх, і ходив у всьому путями Давида, батька свого, і не ухилявся ні праворуч, ні ліворуч. |

| And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josias, in the eighth month, the king sent Sapphan the son of Ezelias the son of Mesollam, the scribe of the house of the Lord, saying, | У вісімнадцятий рік царя Іосії, послав цар Шафана, сина Ацалії, сина Мешулламового, писаря, у дім Господній, сказавши: |

| Go up to Chelcias the high priest, and take account of the money that is brought into the house of the Lord, which they that keep the door have collected of the people. | піди до Хелкії первосвященика, нехай він перерахує срібло, принесене в дім Господній, яке зібрали від народу ті, що стояли на сторожі біля порогу, |

| And let them give it into the hand of the workmen that are appointed in the house of the Lord. And he gave it to the workmen in the house of the Lord, to repair the breaches of the house, | і нехай віддадуть його в руки виконавцям робіт, приставленим до дому Господнього, а ці нехай роздають його тим, хто працює в домі Господньому, на полагодження пошкоджень дому, |

| even to the carpenters, and builders, and masons, and also to purchase timber and hewn stones, to repair the breaches of the house. | теслям і мулярам, і будівничим стін, і на купівлю дерев і тесаних каменів для лагодження дому; |
|

| Only they did not call them to account for the money that was given to them, because they dealt faithfully. | втім, не вимагати у них звіту в сріблі, переданому в руки їхні, тому що вони чинять чесно. |

| And Chelcias the high priest said to Sapphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord. And Chelcias gave the book to Sapphan, and he read it. | І сказав Хелкія первосвященик Шафану писарю: книгу закону я знайшов у домі Господньому. І подав Хелкія книгу Шафану, і він читав її. |

| And he went into the house of the Lord to the king, and reported the matter to the king, and said, Thy servants have collected the money that was found in the house of the Lord, and have given it into the hand of the workmen that are appointed in the house of the Lord. | І прийшов Шафан писар до царя, і приніс цареві відповідь, і сказав: взяли раби твої срібло, знайдене в домі, і передали його в руки виконавцям робіт, приставленим до дому Господнього. |

| And Sapphan the scribe spoke to the king, saying, Chelcias the priest has given me a book. And Sapphan read it before the king. | І доніс Шафан писар царю, говорячи: книгу дав мені Хелкія священик. І читав її Шафан перед царем. |

| And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his garments. | Коли почув цар слова книги закону, то роздер одяг свій. |
|

| And the king commanded Chelcias the priest, and Achikam the son of Sapphan, and Achobor the son of Michaias, and Sapphan the scribe, and Asaias the king's servant, saying, | І повелів цар Хелкії священику, й Ахикаму, синові Шафановому, й Ахбору, синові Михеїному, і Шафану писареві, й Асаії, слузі царському, говорячи: |

| Go, enquire of the Lord for me, and for all the people, and for all Juda, and concerning the words of this book that has been found: for the wrath of the Lord that has been kindled against us is great, because our fathers hearkened not to the words of this book, to do according to all the things written concerning us. | підіть, запитайте Господа про мене і про народ і про всю Юдею щодо слів цієї знайденої книги, бо великий гнів Господній, що запалав на нас за те, що не слухали батьки наші слів книги цієї, щоб чинити згідно з написаним для нас. |

| So Chelcias the priest went, and Achicam, and Achobor, and Sapphan, and Asaias, to Olda the prophetess, the mother of Sellem the son of Thecuan son of Aras, keeper of the robes; and she dwelt in Jerusalem in Masena; and they spoke to her. | І пішов Хелкія священик, і Ахикам, і Ахбор, і Шафан, і Асаія до Олдами пророчиці, дружини Шаллума, сина Тикви, сина Хархаса, хоронителя одягу, — жила ж вона в Єрусалимі, у другій частині, — і говорили з нею. |

| And she said to them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Say to the man that sent you to me, | І вона сказала їм: так говорить Господь, Бог Ізраїлів: скажіть чоловіку, який послав вас до мене: |

| Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I bring evil upon this place, and upon them that dwell in it, even all the words of the book which the king of Juda has read: | так говорить Господь: наведу зло на місце це і на жителів його, — усі слова книги, яку читав цар Юдейський. |

| because they have forsaken me, and burnt incense to other gods, that they might provoke me with the works of their hands: therefore my wrath shall burn forth against this place, and shall not be quenched. | За те, що залишили Мене, і кадять іншим богам, щоб прогнівляти Мене всіма ділами рук своїх, запалав гнів Мій на місце це, і не погасне. |

| And to the king of Juda that sent you to enquire of the Lord,—thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, As for the words which thou hast heard; | А царю Юдейському, який послав вас запитати Господа, скажіть: так говорить Господь Бог Ізраїлів, про слова, що ти чув: |

| because thy heart was softened, and thou wast humbled before me, when thou heardest all that I spoke against this place, and against the inhabitants of it, that it should be utterly destroyed and accursed, and thou didst rend thy garments, and weep before me; I also have heard, saith the Lord. | оскільки пом’якшало серце твоє, і ти смирився перед Господом, почувши те, що Я прорік на місце це і на жителів його, що вони будуть предметом жаху і прокляття, і ти роздер одяг свій, і плакав переді Мною, то і Я почув тебе, говорить Господь. |

| It shall not be so therefore: behold, I will add thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy tomb in peace, and thine eyes shall not see any among all the evils which I bring upon this place. | За це, ось, Я приєднаю тебе до батьків твоїх, і ти покладений будеш у гробницю твою в мирі, і не побачать очі твої всього того лиха, яке Я наведу на місце це. І принесли цареві відповідь. |
