| And it happened after this that Abessalom the son of David had a very beautiful sister, and her name was Themar; and Amnon the son of David loved her. | І було після того: в Авессалома, сина Давидового, була сестра красива, на ім’я Фамар, і полюбив її Амнон, син Давида. |

| And Amnon was distressed even to sickness, because of Themar his sister; for she was a virgin, and it seemed very difficult for Amnon to do anything to her. | Й уболівав Амнон до того, що занедужав через Фамар, сестру свою; тому що вона була дівчина, і Амнону здавалося тяжким що-небудь зробити з нею. |

| And Amnon had a friend, and his name was Jonadab, the son of Samaa the brother of David: and Jonadab was a very cunning man. | Але в Амнона був друг, на ім’я Іонадав, син Самая, брата Давидового; і був Іонадав людиною дуже хитрою. |

| And he said to him, What ails thee that thou art thus weak, O son of the king, morning by morning? wilt thou not tell me? and Amnon said, I love Themar the sister of my brother Abessalom. | І він сказав йому: від чого ти так худнеш з кожним днем, сину царя, — чи не відкриєш мені? І сказав йому Амнон: Фамар, сестру Авессалома, брата мого, люблю я. |

| And Jonadab said to him, Lie upon thy bed, and make thyself sick, and thy father shall come in to see thee; and thou shalt say to him, Let, I pray thee, Themar my sister come, and feed me with morsels, and let her prepare food before my eyes, that I may see and eat at her hands. | І сказав йому Іонадав: лягай у постіль твою, і прикинься хворим; і коли батько твій прийде відвідати тебе, скажи йому: нехай прийде Фамар, сестра моя, і підкріпить мене їжею, приготувавши страву на моїх очах, щоб я бачив, і їв з рук її. |

| So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick; and the king came in to see him: and Amnon said to the king, Let, I pray thee, my sister Themar come to me, and make a couple of cakes in my sight, and I will eat them at her hand. | І ліг Амнон і прикинувся хворим, і прийшов цар відвідати його; і сказав Амнон царю: нехай прийде Фамар, сестра моя, і спече на моїх очах корж, або два, і я поїм з рук її. |

| And David sent to Themar to the house, saying, Go now to thy brother's house, and dress him food. | І послав Давид до Фамар в дім сказати: піди в дім Амнона, брата твого, і приготуй йому страву. |
|

| And Themar went to the house of her brother Amnon, and he was lying down: and she took the dough and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes. | І пішла вона в дім брата свого Амнона; а він лежить. І взяла вона борошна і замісила, і приготувала на очах його і спекла коржі, |

| And she took the frying-pan and poured them out before him, but he would not eat. And Amnon said, Send out every man from about me. And they removed every man from about him. | і взяла сковороду і виклала перед ним; але він не хотів їсти. І сказав Амнон: нехай усі вийдуть від мене. І вийшли від нього всі люди, |

| And Amnon said to Themar, Bring in the food into the closet, and I will eat of thy hand. And Themar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them to her brother Amnon into the chamber. | і сказав Амнон Фамар: віднеси страву у внутрішню кімнату, і я поїм з рук твоїх. І взяла Фамар коржі, що приготувала, і віднесла Амнону, братові своєму, у внутрішню кімнату. |

| And she brought them to him to eat, and he caught hold of her, and said to her, Come, lie with me, my sister. | І коли вона поставила перед ним, щоб він їв, то він схопив її, і сказав їй: іди, лягай зі мною, сестро моя. |

| And she said to him, Nay, my brother, do not humble me, for it ought not to be so done in Israel; do not this folly. | Але вона сказала: ні, брате мій, не знечещуй мене, тому що не робиться так в Ізраїлі; не роби цього безумства. |
|

| And I, whither shall I remove my reproach? and thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. And now, speak, I pray thee, to the king, for surely he will not keep me from thee. | І я, куди я піду з моїм нечестям? І ти, ти будеш одним із безумних в Ізраїлі. Ти поговори з царем; він не відмовить віддати мене тобі. |

| But Amnon would not hearken to her voice; and he prevailed against her, and humbled her, and lay with her. | Але він не хотів слухати слів її, і переборов її, і зґвалтував її, і лежав з нею. |
|

| Then Amnon hated her with very great hatred; for the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her, for the last wickedness was greater than the first: and Amnon said to her, Rise, and begone. | Потім зненавидів її Амнон величезною ненавистю, так що ненависть, якою він зненавидів її, була сильнішою за любов, яку мав до неї; і сказав Амнон: встань, іди. |

| And Themar spoke to him concerning this great mischief, greater, said she, than the other that thou didst me, to send me away: but Amnon would not hearken to her voice. | І [Фамар] сказала йому: ні, [брате]; прогнати мене — це зло більше за перше, яке ти зробив із мною. Але він не хотів слухати її. |

| And he called his servant who had charge of the house, and said to him, Put now this woman out from me, and shut the door after her. | І покликав слугу свого, який служив йому, і сказав: прожени цю від мене геть і замкни двері за нею. |
|

| And she had on her a variegated robe, for so were the king's daughters that were virgins attired in their apparel: and his servant led her forth, and shut the door after her. | На ній був різнобарвний одяг, бо такий верхній одяг носили царські дочки-дівчата. І вивів її слуга геть і замкнув за нею двері. |

| And Themar took ashes, and put them on her head; and she rent the variegated garment that was upon her: and she laid her hands on her head, and went crying continually. | І посипала Фамар попелом голову свою, і роздерла різнобарвний одяг, який мала на собі, і поклала руки свої на голову свою, і так ішла і волала. |

| And Abessalom her brother said to her, Has thy brother Amnon been with thee? now then, my sister, be silent, for he is thy brother: be not careful to mention this matter. So Themar dwelt as a widow in the house of her brother Abessalom. | І сказав їй Авессалом, брат її: чи не Амнон, брат твій, був з тобою? — але тепер мовчи, сестро моя; він — брат твій; не тужи серцем твоїм про цю справу. І жила Фамар на самоті в домі Авессалома, брата свого. |

| And king David heard of all these things, and was very angry; but he did not grieve the spirit of his son Amnon, because he loved him, for he was his first-born. | І почув цар Давид про все це, і дуже розгнівався, [але не засмутив духу Амнона, сина свого, тому що любив його, бо він був первісток його]. |

| And Abessalom spoke not to Amnon, good or bad, because Abessalom hated Amnon, on account of his humbling his sister Themar. | Авессалом же не говорив з Амноном ні поганого, ні доброго; бо зненавидів Авессалом Амнона за те, що він знечестив Фамар, сестру його. |

| And it came to pass at the end of two whole years, that they were shearing sheep for Abessalom in Belasor near Ephraim: and Abessalom invited all the king's sons. | Через два роки було стриження овець в Авессалома у Ваал-Гацорі, що в Єфрема, і покликав Авессалом усіх синів царських. |

| And Abessalom came to the king, and said, Behold, thy servant has a sheep-shearing; let now the king and his servants go with thy servant. | І прийшов Авессалом до царя і сказав: ось, нині стриження овець у раба твого; нехай піде цар і слуги його з рабом твоїм. |

| And the king said to Abessalom, Nay, my son, let us not all go, and let us not be burdensome to thee. And he pressed him; but he would not go, but blessed him. | Але цар сказав Авессалому: ні, сину мій, ми не підемо всі, щоб не бути тобі за тягар. І сильно просив його Авессалом; але він не захотів іти, і благословив його. |

| And Abessalom said to him, And if not, let, I pray thee, my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, Why should he go with thee? | І сказав йому Авессалом: принаймні нехай піде з нами Амнон, брат мій. І сказав йому цар: навіщо йому йти з тобою? |

| And Abessalom pressed him, and he sent with him Amnon and all the king's sons; and Abessalom made a banquet like the banquet of the king. | Але Авессалом ублагав його, і він відпустив з ним Амнона і всіх царських синів; [і зробив Авессалом бенкет, як цар робить бенкет]. |

| And Abessalom charged his servants, saying, Mark when the heart of Amnon shall be merry with wine, and I shall say to you, Smite Amnon, and slay him: fear not; for is it not I that command you? Be courageous, and be valiant. | Авессалом же наказав слугам своїм, сказавши: дивіться, як тільки розвеселиться серце Амнона від вина, і я скажу вам: «уразьте Амнона», тоді убийте його, не бійтеся; це я наказую вам, будьте сміливі й мужні. |

| And the servants of Abessalom did to Amnon as Abessalom commanded them: and all the sons of the king rose up, and they mounted every man his mule, and fled. | І вчинили слуги Авессалома з Амноном, як наказав Авессалом. Тоді встали всі царські сини, сіли кожен на мула свого й утекли. |

| And it came to pass, when they were in the way, that a report came to David, saying, Abessalom has slain all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left. | Коли вони були ще в дорозі, дійшла чутка до Давида, що Авессалом умертвив усіх царських синів, і не залишилося жодного з них. |
|

| Then the king arose, and rent his garments, and lay upon the ground: and all his servants that were standing round him rent their garments. | І встав цар, і роздер одяг свій, і простягнувся на землі, і всі слуги його, які стоять перед ним, роздерли одяг свій. |
|

| And Jonadab the son of Samaa brother of David, answered and said, Let not my lord the king say that he has slain all the young men the sons of the king, for Amnon only of them all is dead; for he was appointed to death by the mouth of Abessalom from the day that he humbled his sister Themar. | Але Іонадав, син Самая, брата Давидового, сказав: нехай не думає господар мій [цар], що всіх отроків, царських синів, умертвили; один тільки Амнон помер, тому що в Авессалома був цей задум з того дня, як Амнон знечестив сестру його; |

| And now let not my lord the king take the matter to heart, saying, All the king's sons are dead: for Amnon only of them all is dead. | отже, нехай господар мій, цар, не тривожиться думкою про те, начебто померли всі царські сини: помер один тільки Амнон. |

| And Abessalom escaped: and the young man the watchman lifted up his eyes, and looked; and, behold, much people went in the way behind him from the side of the mountain in the descent: and the watchman came and told the king, and said, I have seen men by the way of Oronen, by the side of the mountain. | І втік Авессалом. І підняв слуга, який стояв на сторожі, очі свої, і побачив: ось, багато народу йде по дорозі на схилі гори. [І прийшов вартовий, і сповістив царю, і сказав: я бачив людей на дорозі Оронській на схилі гори.] |

| And Jonadab said to the king, Behold, the king's sons are present: according to the word of thy servant, so has it happened. | Тоді Іонадав сказав цареві: це йдуть царські сини; як говорив раб твій, так і є. |

| And it came to pass when he had finished speaking, that, behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voices and wept: and the king also and all his servants wept with a very great weeping. | І ледь тільки сказав він це, ось прийшли царські сини, і підняли крик і плакали. І сам цар і всі слуги його плакали дуже великим плачем. |

| But Abessalom fled, and went to Tholmi son of Emiud king of Gedsur to the land of Chamaachad: and king David mourned for his son continually. | Авессалом же утік і пішов до Фалмая, сина Емиуда, царя Гессурського [у землю Хамаахадську]. І плакав [цар] Давид за сином своїм в усі дні. |

| So Abessalom fled, and departed to Gedsur, and was there three years. | Авессалом утік і прийшов у Гессур і пробув там три роки. |
|

|
| And king David ceased to go out after Abessalom, for he was comforted concerning Amnon, touching his death. | І не став цар Давид переслідувати Авессалома; бо втішився після смерти Амнона. |
