who is an earnest of our inheritance, unto the redemption of God’s own possession, unto the praise of his glory.	Який є запорукою спадщини нашої для відкуплення надбання Його, на похвалу слави Його.

For this cause I also, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which is among you, and the love which ye show toward all the saints,	Тому і я, почувши про вашу віру в Христа Ісуса і про любов до всіх святих,

cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;	безперестанно дякую за вас Богові, згадуючи вас у молитвах моїх,

that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him;	щоб Бог Господа нашого Ісуса Христа, Отець слави, дав вам Духа премудрості й одкровення для пізнання Його

having the eyes of your heart enlightened, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,	і просвітив очі серця вашого, щоб ви зрозуміли, в чому полягає надія на Його покликання‚ і яке багатство славної спадщини Його для святих,

and what the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to that working of the strength of his might	і яка безмірна велич могутности Його в нас, що вірують за діянням превеликої сили Його,

which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and he made him to sit at his right hand in the heavenly places,	якою Він діяв у Христі, воскресивши Його з мертвих і посадивши праворуч Себе на небесах,

far above all rule, and authority, and power, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:	вище від усякого начальства‚ і влади, і сили, і панування, і всякого імені, названого не тільки в цьому віці, але і в майбутньому,

and he put all things in subjection under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things to the church,	і все підкорив під ноги Йому, і поставив Його вище за все, главою Церкви,

Chapter 2	Глава 2

And you did he make alive, when ye were dead in trespasses and sins,	І вас, мертвих через злочини і гріхи ваші,

wherein ye once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the powers of the air, of the spirit that now worketh in the sons of disobedience;	в яких ви колись жили за звичаями світу цього, з волі князя піднебесного, духа, що діє тепер в синах противлення,

among whom we also all once lived in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest—	між якими і ми всі жили колись за нашими плотськими похотями, виконуючи бажання плоті й помислів, та були за природою дітьми гніву, як і інші,

but God, being rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,	Бог, багатий милістю з великої Своєї любови, якою нас полюбив,

and might reconcile them both in one body unto God through the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:	і в єдиному тілі примирити обох із Богом хрестом, убивши ворожнечу на ньому.

and he came and preached peace to you that were far off, and to them that were nigh:	І, прийшовши, благовістив мир вам, далеким і близьким,

for through him we both have our access in one Spirit unto the Father.	бо через Hього і ті й інші маємо доступ до Отця в одному Духові.

So then ye are no more strangers and sojourners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God,	Отже, ви вже не чужі і не пришельці, а співгромадяни святим і свої Богові,

being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone;	утверджені на основі апостолів і пророків, маючи наріжним каменем Самого Ісуса Христа,

Chapter 3	Глава 3

For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus in behalf of you Gentiles—	Задля цього я, Павло, став в’язнем Ісуса Христа за вас‚ язичників.

if so be that ye have heard of the dispensation of that grace of God which was given me to you-ward;	Як ви чули про діяння благодаті Божої, даної мені для вас,

how that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery, as I wrote before in few words,	бо одкровенням мені провіщена таїна (про що я раніш написав вам коротко),

whereby, when ye read, ye can perceive my understanding in the mystery of Christ;	тому ви, читаючи, можете збагнути моє розуміння таїни Христової,

and to make all men see what is the dispensation of the mystery which for ages hath been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ;	і відкрити всім, у чому полягає будівництво таємниці, споконвіку утаєної в Бозі, Який усе створив Ісусом Христом,

to the intent that now unto the principalities and the powers in the heavenly places might be made known through the church the manifold wisdom of God,	щоб нині стала відомою через Церкву начальствам і владам на небесах різноманітна премудрість Божа,

according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:	за передвічним призначенням, яке Він здійснив у Христі Ісусі, Господі нашому,

in whom we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him.	в Якому ми маємо дерзновення і надійний доступ через віру в Hього.

Wherefore I ask that ye may not faint at my tribulations for you, which are your glory.	А тому благаю вас не сумувати з приводу моїх заради вас скорбот, бо то є ваша слава.

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,	Для цього я схиляю коліна свої перед Отцем Господа нашого Ісуса Христа,

from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,	від Якого іменується всякий рід на небесах і на землі,

that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that ye may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inward man;	щоб дав вам, за багатством слави Своєї, міцно утвердитися Духом Його у внутрішньому чоловікові,

that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;	вірою вселитися Христові в серця ваші,

to the end that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be strong to apprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and depth and height,	щоб ви, вкорінені й утверджені в любові, могли зрозуміти з усіма святими, що є ширина‚ і довжина, і глибина, і висота,

and to know the love of Christ which passeth knowledge, that ye may be filled unto all the fullness of God.	і зрозуміти любов Христову, яка перевищує розуміння, щоб вам сповнитися всією повнотою Божою.

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,	А тому, Хто силою, що діє в нас, може створити незрівнянно більше за те, чого ми просимо або про що помишляємо,

Chapter 4	Глава 4

I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beseech you to walk worthily of the calling wherewith ye were called,	Отже, я, в’язень ради Господа, благаю вас поводитися гідно звання, до якого ви покликані,

with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one another in love;	з усякою смиренномудрістю й лагідністю та довготерпінням, терплячи один одного з любов’ю,

giving diligence to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.	прагнучи зберігати єдність духу в союзі миру.

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as also ye were called in one hope of your calling;	Одне тіло й один дух, як ви й покликані в одній надії покликання вашого;

one Lord, one faith, one baptism,	один Господь, одна віра, одне хрещення,

one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in us all.	один Бог і Отець усіх, Який над усіма, і через усіх, і в усіх нас.

But unto each one of us was grace given according to the measure of the gift of Christ.	Кожному ж із нас дана благодать у міру дару Христового.

Wherefore he saith, When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive, And gave gifts unto men.	Тому й сказано: «Піднявшись на висоту, полонив полон і дав дари людям».

(Now this, He ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?	А «піднявшись» що означає, як не те, що Він і сходив раніше в пекельні місця землі?

He that descended is the same also that ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.)	Хто зійшов, Той же і піднявся вище всіх небес, щоб наповнити все.

And he gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;	І Він настановив одних апостолами, інших пророками, інших євангелістами, інших пастирями та вчителями,

for the perfecting of the saints, unto the work of ministering, unto the building up of the body of Christ:	на довершення святих, на діло служіння, для створення Тіла Христового,

till we all attain unto the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a full-grown man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:	аж доки всі прийдемо до єдности віри й пізнання Сина Божого, в мужа досконалого, до міри зростання в нас повноти Христової;

that we may be no longer children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error;	щоб ми не були більше дітьми, які вагаються і захоплюються всяким вітром учення за людським лукавством і підступами хитрого зваблювання,

but speaking truth in love, may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, even Christ;	а істинною любов’ю всі зростали в Того, Який є глава Христос,

from whom all the body fitly framed and knit together through that which every joint supplieth, according to the working in due measure of each several part, maketh the increase of the body unto the building up of itself in love.	з Якого все тіло, що складається і з’єднується всякими зв’язками, що взаємно скріплюються, при дії в свою чергу кожного члена, одержує приріст для створення самого себе в любові.

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,	Тому я кажу і заклинаю Господом, щоб ви більше не робили так, як роблять інші народи через суєтність розуму свого,

being darkened in their understanding, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart;	будучи потьмарені в розумі, відчужені від життя Божого, через їхнє неуцтво та жорстокість серця їхнього.

who being past feeling gave themselves up to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.	Вони, дійшовши до бездушности, віддалися розпусті так, що чинять усяку нечистоту з ненаситністю.

But ye did not so learn Christ;	Але ви не так пізнали Христа;

if so be that ye heard him, and were taught in him, even as truth is in Jesus:	тому що ви чули про Hього і в Hьому навчились, — бо істина в Ісусі, —

that ye put away, as concerning your former manner of life, the old man, that waxeth corrupt after the lusts of deceit;	відкинути колишній спосіб життя старої людини, яка зотліває в спокусливих похотях,

and that ye be renewed in the spirit of your mind,	а обновитися духом розуму вашого

and put on the new man, that after God hath been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.	і одягнутися в нову людину, створену за Богом, в праведності і святості істини.

Wherefore, putting away falsehood, speak ye truth each one with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.	Тому, відкинувши неправду, говоріть правду кожний ближньому своєму, бо ми члени один одному.

Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:	Гніваючись, не грішіть: нехай сонце не заходить у гніві вашому;

Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing that is good, that he may have whereof to give to him that hath need.	Хто крав, більше не кради, а краще працюй, роблячи своїми руками корисне, щоб було з чого подавати тому, хто у злиднях.

Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for edifying as the need may be, that it may give grace to them that hear.	Hіяке гниле слово нехай не виходить з уст ваших, а тільки добре для навчання у вірі, щоб воно давало благодать тим, що слухають.

And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, in whom ye were sealed unto the day of redemption.	І не ображайте Святого Духа Божого, яким покладено на вас печать у день відкуплення.

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and railing, be put away from you, with all malice:	Усяке роздратування‚ і лютість, і гнів, і крик, і лихослів’я з усякою злобою нехай будуть знищені у вас;

and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, even as God also in Christ forgave us.	а будьте один до одного добрими, милосердними, прощайте один одному, як і Бог у Христі простив вам.
Chapter 5	Глава 5

Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children;	Отже, наслідуйте Бога, як діти улюблені,

and walk in love, even as Christ also loved us, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odor of a sweet smell.	і живіть у любові, як і Христос полюбив нас і віддав Себе за нас у приношення і жертву Богові, на пахощі приємні.

But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as becometh saints;	А блуд і всяка нечистота та користолюбство не повинні навіть згадуватися у вас, як личить святим.

nor filthiness, nor foolish talking, or jesting, things that are not befitting: but rather giving of thanks.	Також лихослів’я, і марнослів’я, і кощунство не пристойні вам, а, навпаки, подяка;

For this ye know, that no fornicator, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.	бо знайте, що ніякий блудник‚ чи нечистий, чи користолюбець, який є ідолослужителем, не має спадку в Царстві Христа і Бога.

Let no man deceive you with empty words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the sons of disobedience.	Hехай ніхто не зваблює вас марними словами, бо за це приходить гнів Божий на синів непокірних;

Be not ye therefore partakers with them;	отже, не будьте їхніми спільниками.

for ye were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord: walk as children of light	Ви були колись темрявою, а тепер — світло в Господі: робіть, як діти світла,

(for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth),	бо плід Духа є у всякій доброті, праведності та істині.

proving what is well-pleasing unto the Lord;	Випробовуйте, що є угодне Богові,

and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them;	і не беріть участи в неплідних ділах темряви, але викривайте.

for the things which are done by them in secret it is a shame even to speak of.	Бо про те, що вони роблять таємно, соромно і говорити.

But all things when they are reproved are made manifest by the light: for everything that is made manifest is light.	Все ж те, що викривається, стає явним від світла, бо все, що стає явним, є світло.

Wherefore he saith, Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall shine upon thee.	Тому сказано: «Встань, сплячий, і воскресни з мертвих, і освітить тебе Христос».

See then that ye walk carefully, not as unwise, but as wise;	Отже, глядіть, робіть обережно, не як нерозумні, а як мудрі,

redeeming the time, because the days are evil.	цінуючи час, бо дні лукаві,

Wherefore be ye not foolish, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.	отже, не будьте нерозсудливі, а пізнавайте, що є воля Божа.

And be not drunken with wine, wherein is riot, but be filled with the Spirit;	І не впивайтеся вином, від якого буває розпуста; а наповнюйтеся Духом,

speaking one to another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord;	повчаючи самі себе псалмами та славословленнями і піснеспівами духовними, співаючи і прославляючи в серцях ваших Господа,
20	20
giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father;	дякуючи завжди за все Богові й Отцеві, в ім’я Господа нашого Ісуса Христа,

subjecting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.	підкоряючись один одному в страху Божому.

Wives, be in subjection unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.	Жінки, коріться своїм чоловікам, як Господеві,

For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, and he is the savior of the body.	бо чоловік є голова жінки, як і Христос глава Церкви, і Він же Спаситель тіла.

But as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their own husbands in everything.	Але як Церква підкоряється Христу, так і жінки своїм чоловікам у всьому.

Husbands, love your own wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it;	Чоловіки, любіть своїх жінок, як і Христос полюбив Церкву і віддав Себе за неї,

that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word,	щоб освятити її, очистивши водяною купіллю через слова;

that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.	щоб поставити її перед Собою славною Церквою, яка не має плями‚ чи вади, чи чогось подібного, але щоб вона була свята і непорочна.

So ought husbands to love their own wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his own wife loveth himself:	Так повинні чоловіки любити своїх жінок, як свої тіла: хто любить свою жінку, любить самого себе.

for no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord also the church;	Бо ніхто ніколи не мав ненависти до своєї плоті, а годує і гріє її, як і Господь Церкву,

because we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.	бо ми члени тіла Його, від плоті Його і від кісток Його.

For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh.	Тому залишить чоловік батька свого і матір і пристане до жінки своєї‚ і будуть двоє одна плоть.

This mystery is great: but I speak in regard of Christ and of the church.	Тайна ця велика; я говорю щодо Христа і Церкви.

Nevertheless do ye also severally love each one his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she fear her husband.	Отже, кожен із вас нехай любить свою жінку, як самого себе; а жінка нехай боїться свого чоловіка.
Chapter 6	Глава 6

1	1
Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.	Діти, слухайтеся своїх батьків у Господі, бо цього вимагає справедливість.

Honor thy father and mother (which is the first commandment with promise),	«Шануй батька твого і матір» — це перша заповідь з обітницею:

that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.	«щоб тобі було добре і щоб був ти довголітнім на землi».

And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but nurture them in the chastening and admonition of the Lord.	І ви, батьки, не роздратовуйте дітей ваших, а виховуйте їх у вченні і наставлянні Господньому.

Servants, be obedient unto them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;	Раби, слухайтеся господарів своїх у плоті зі страхом і трепетом, у простоті серця вашого, як Христа,

not in the way of eye-service, as men-pleasers; but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;	не з показною тільки прислужливістю, як чоловікоугодники, а як раби Христові, виконуючи волю Божу від душі.

with good will doing service, as unto the Lord, and not unto men:	Служіть щиро, як Господу, а не як людям,
8	8
knowing that whatsoever good thing each one doeth, the same shall he receive again from the Lord, whether he be bond or free.	знаючи, що кожен одержить від Господа в міру добра, яке він зробив, чи раб, чи вільний.

And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, and forbear threatening: knowing that the Master of you yourselves also is in heaven, and there is no respect of persons with him.	І ви, господарі, поводьтеся з ними так само, стримуючи суворість, знаючи, що і над вами самими і над ними є на небесах Господь, у Якого немає упереджености.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might.	Hарешті, браття мої, зміцнюйтесь Господом і могутністю сили Його.

Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.	Одягніться в повну зброю Божу, щоб вам можна було стати проти хитрощів диявольських,

For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of the darkness of this world, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.	бо наша боротьба не проти крови і плоті, а проти начальства, проти влади, проти світоправителів темряви віку цього, проти духів злоби піднебесних.

Wherefore take up the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand.	Для цього прийміть повну зброю Божу, щоб ви змогли протистояти в день злий і, все подолавши, вистояти.

Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,	Отже, станьте, підперезавши стегна ваші істиною‚ і зодягнувшись у броню праведности,
15	15
and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;	і взувши ноги в готовність благовістити мир;
16	16
above all, taking up the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one.	а понад усе візьміть щит віри, яким зможете погасити всі розпечені стріли лукавого;
17	17
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:	і шолом спасіння візьміть, і меч духовний, що є Слово Боже.

with all prayer and supplication praying at all seasons in the Spirit, and watching unto this very thing in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints,	Усякою молитвою і благанням моліться у будь-який час духом, і дбайте про це саме з повною постійністю і благанням за всіх святих

and on my behalf, that utterance may be given unto me in opening my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel,	і за мене, щоб мені дано було слово устами моїми відкрито з дерзновенням звіщати таїну благовістування,

for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.	для якого я посол у кайданах, щоб я сміливо проповідував, як мені належить.

But that ye also may know my affairs, how I do, Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:	А щоб і ви знали про мої обставини і діла, про все сповістить вам Тихик, улюблений брат і вірний у Господі служитель,

whom I have sent unto you for this very purpose, that ye may know our state, and that he may comfort your hearts.	якого я і послав до вас для того самого, щоб ви довідалися про нас і щоб він утішив серця ваші.

Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.	Мир браттям і любов з вірою від Бога і Отця і Господа Ісуса Христа.

Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ with a love incorruptible. Amen.	Благодать з усіма, що незмінно люблять Господа нашого Ісуса Христа. Амінь.
