| And it came to pass on the third day, when she had ceased praying, that she put off her mean dress, and put on her glorious apparel. | На третій день Есфир [припинивши молитися, зняла одяг нарікання і] одяглася по-царськи, [і зробившись прекрасною, закликаючи всевидця Бога і Спасителя, узяла двох служниць, і на одну спиралася, ніби віддавшись насолоді, а друга йшла за нею, підтримуючи одіяння її. Вона була прекрасна в квітучості краси своєї, і лице її радісне, ніби сповнене любов’ю, але серце її було стиснуте страхом]. І стала вона на внутрішньому дворі царського дому, перед домом царя; цар же сидів тоді на царському престолі своєму, в царському домі, прямо навпроти входу у дім, [убраний в усі одіяння величі своєї, увесь у золоті і коштовних каменях, і був дуже страшний]. Коли цар побачив царицю Есфир, яка стоїть надворі, вона знайшла милість в очах його. [Звернувши лице своє, що полум’яніло славою, він глянув із сильним гнівом; і цариця впала духом і змінилася у лиці своєму від ослаблення і схилилася на голову служниці, яка супроводжувала її. І змінив Бог дух царя на лагідність, і поспішно встав він із престолу свого і прийняв її в обійми свої, поки вона не отямилася. Потім він утішив її ласкавими словами, сказавши їй: що тобі, Есфир? Я — брат твій; підбадьорься, не помреш, тому що наше володарювання спільне; підійди.] |

| And being splendidly arrayed, and having called upon God the Overseer and Preserver of all things, she took her two maids, and she leaned upon one, as a delicate female, and the other followed bearing her train. | |

| And she was blooming in the perfection of her beauty; and her face was cheerful, as it were benevolent, but her heart was straitened for fear. | |
|

|
| And having passed through all the doors, she stood before the king: and he was sitting upon his royal throne, and he had put on all his glorious apparel, covered all over with gold and precious stones, and was very terrible. | |
|

|
| And having raised his face resplendent with glory, he looked with intense anger: and the queen fell, and changed her colour as she fainted; and she bowed herself upon the head of the maid that went before her. | |

| But God changed the spirit of the king to gentleness, and in intense feeling he sprang from off his throne, and took her into his arms, until she recovered: and he comforted her with peaceable words, and said to her, | |

|
| What is the matter, Esther? I am thy brother; be of good cheer, thou shalt not die, for our command is openly declared to thee, Draw nigh. | |
|

| And having raised the golden sceptre he laid it upon her neck, and embraced her, and said, Speak to me. | І простягнув цар до Есфирі золотий скіпетр, що був у руці його, і підійшла Есфир і торкнулася кінця скіпетра, [і поклав цар скіпетр на шию її і поцілував її і сказав: говори мені. І сказала вона: я бачила в тобі, господарю, ніби ангела Божого, і збентежилося серце моє від страху перед славою твоєю, бо дивний ти, господарю, і лице твоє сповнене благодаті. — Але під час бесіди вона впала від ослаблення; і цар збентежився, і всі слуги його втішали її]. |

| And she said to him, I saw thee, my lord, as an angel of God, and my heart was troubled for fear of thy glory; for thou, my lord, art to be wondered at, and thy face is full of grace. | |

| And while she was speaking, she fainted and fell. Then the king was troubled, and all his servants comforted her. | |
|

| And the king said, What wilt thou, Esther? and what is thy request? ask even to the half of my kingdom, and it shall be thine. | І сказав їй цар: що тобі, царице Есфир, і яке прохання твоє? Навіть до половини царства дам тобі. |
|

| And Esther said, To-day is my great day: if then it seem good to the king, let both him and Aman come to the feast which I will prepare this day. | І сказала Есфир: [нині в мене день святковий;] якщо царю благоугодно, нехай прийде цар з Аманом сьогодні на бенкет, який я приготувала йому. |

| And the king said, Hasten Aman hither, that we may perform the word of Esther. So they both come to the feast of which Esther had spoken. | І сказав цар: сходіть швидше за Аманом, щоб зробити за словом Есфирі. І прийшов цар з Аманом на бенкет, який приготувала Есфир. |

| And at the banquet the king said to Esther, What is thy request, queen Esther? speak, and thou shalt have all that thou requirest. | І сказав цар Есфирі під час пиття вина: яке бажання твоє? воно буде задоволене; і яке прохання твоє? хоча б до половини царства, воно буде виконане. |

| And she said, My request and my petition are: | І відповіла Есфир, і сказала: ось моє бажання і моє прохання: |
|

| if I have found favour in the sight of the king, let the king and Aman come again to-morrow to the feast which I shall prepare for them, and to-morrow I will do the same. | якщо я знайшла благовоління в очах царя, і якщо царю благоугодно задовольнити бажання моє і виконати прохання моє, те нехай цар з Аманом прийде [ще завтра] на бенкет, який я приготую для них, і завтра я виконаю слово царя. |

| So Aman went out from the king very glad and merry: but when Aman saw Mardochæus the Jew in the court, he was greatly enraged. | І вийшов Аман у той день веселий і добродушний. Але коли побачив Аман Мардохея біля воріт царських, і той не встав і з місця не рушив перед ним, тоді наповнився Аман гнівом на Мардохея. |

| And having gone into his own house, he called his friends, and his wife Zosara. | Однак же стримався Аман. А коли прийшов у дім свій, то послав покликати друзів своїх і Зереш, дружину свою. |

| And he shewed them his wealth, and the glory with which the king had invested him, and how he had caused him to take precedence and bear chief rule in the kingdom. | І розповів їм Аман про велике багатство своє і про численних синів своїх і про все те, як звеличив його цар і як підніс його над князями і слугами царськими. |
|

| And Aman said, The queen has called no one to the feast with the king but me, and I am invited to-morrow. | І сказав Аман: та й цариця Есфир нікого не покликала з царем на бенкет, який вона приготувала, крім мене; так і на завтра я покликаний до неї з царем. |
|

| But these things please me not, while I see Mardochæus the Jew in the court. | Але всього цього не достатньо для мене, доки я бачу Мардохея юдеянина, що сидить біля воріт царських. |
|

| And Zosara his wife and his friends said to him, Let there be a gallows made for thee of fifty cubits, and in the morning do thou speak to the king, and let Mardochæus be hanged on the gallows: but do thou go in to the feast with the king, and be merry. And the saying pleased Aman, and the gallows was prepared. | І сказала йому Зереш, дружина його, і всі друзі його: нехай приготують дерево висотою в п’ятдесят ліктів, і вранці скажи цареві, щоб повісили Мардохея на ньому, і тоді весело йди на бенкет з царем. І сподобалося це слово Аману, і він приготував дерево. |
