Aleph. I am the man that sees poverty, through the rod of his wrath upon me.	Я чоловік, який зазнав горя від жезла гніву Його.

He has taken me, and led me away into darkness, and not into light.	Він повів мене і ввів у темряву, а не у світло.

Nay, against me has he turned his hand all the day.	Так, Він повернув на мене і весь день повертає руку Свою;

He has made old my flesh and my skin; he has broken my bones.	виснажив плоть мою і шкіру мою, розтрощив кістки мої;

Beth. He has built against me, and compassed my head, and brought travail upon me.	огородив мене і обклав гіркотою і тяготою;

He has set me in dark places, as them that have long been dead.	посадив мене у темне місце, як давно померлих;

He has builded against me, and I cannot come forth: he has made my brazen chain heavy.	оточив мене стіною, щоб я не вийшов, обтяжив кайдани мої,

Gimel. Yea, though I cry and shout, he shuts out my prayer.	і коли я волав і взивав, затримував молитву мою;

Daleth. He has built up my ways, he has hedged my paths;	камінням перегородив дороги мої, виправив стежки мої.

he has troubled me, as a she-bear lying in wait: he is to me as a lion in secret places.	Він став для мене, ніби ведмідь у засідці, ніби лев у потаємному місці;

He pursued me after I departed, and brought me to a stand: he has utterly ruined me.	викривив путі мої і розтерзав мене, перетворив мене на ніщо;

He. He has bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.	натягнув лук Свій і поставив мене ніби ціллю для стріл;

He has caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my reins.	послав у нирки мої стріли із сагайдака Свого.

I became a laughing-stock to all my people; and their song all the day.	Я став посміховищем для всього народу мого, вседенною піснею їх.

Vau. He has filled me with bitterness, he has drenched me with gall.	Він переситив мене гіркотою, напоїв мене полином.

And he has dashed out my teeth with gravel, he has fed me with ashes.	Розтрощив камінням зуби мої, покрив мене попелом.

He has also removed my soul from peace: I forgot prosperity.	І відійшов мир від душі моєї; я забув про благоденство,

Therefore my success has perished, and my hope from the Lord.	і сказав я: загинула сила моя і надія моя на Господа.

Zain. I remembered by reason of my poverty, and because of persecution my bitterness and gall shall be remembered;	Помисли про моє страждання і біду мою, про полин і жовч.

and my soul shall meditate with me.	Твердо пам’ятає це душа моя і падає у мені.

This will I lay up in my heart, therefore will I endure.	Ось що я відповідаю серцю моєму і тому уповаю:

Heth. It is the mercies of the Lord, that he has not failed me, because his compassions are not exhausted. Pity us, O Lord, early every month: for we are not brought to an end, because his compassions are not exhausted.

They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

The Lord is my portion, says my soul; therefore will I wait for him.

Teth. The Lord is good to them that wait for him: the soul which shall seek him	Благий Господь до тих, хто надіється на Нього, до душі, яка шукає Його.

is good, and shall wait for, and quietly expect salvation of the Lord.	Благо тому, хто терпляче очікує спасіння від Господа.

Teth. It is good for a man when he bears a yoke in his youth.	Благо людині, коли вона несе тягар у юності своїй;

He will sit alone, and be silent, because he has borne it upon him.	сидить усамітнено і мовчить, бо Він наклав його на неї;

Jod. He will give his cheek to him that smites him: he will be filled full with reproaches.	підставляє щоку свою тому, хто б’є його, пересичується ганьбою,

For the Lord will not reject for ever.	бо не навік залишає Господь.

Chaph. For he that has brought down will pity, and that according to the abundance of his mercy.	Але послав горе, і помилує з великої благости Своєї.

He has not answered in anger from his heart, though he has brought low the children of a man.	Бо Він не з волі серця Свого карає і засмучує синів людських.

Lamed. To bring down under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,	Але, коли топчуть ногами своїми всіх в’язнів землі,

to turn aside the judgment of a man before the face of the Most High,	коли неправедно судять людину перед лицем Всевишнього,

to condemn a man unjustly in his judgment, the Lord has not given commandment.	коли пригноблюють людину в ділі її: хіба не бачить Господь?

Who has thus spoken, and it has come to pass? the Lord has not commanded it.	Хто це говорить: «і те буває, чому Господь не повелів бути»?

Out of the mouth of the Most High there shall not come forth evil and good.	Чи не від уст Всевишнього приходить біда і благополуччя?

Mem. Why should a living man complain, a man concerning his sin?	Навіщо ремствує людина, яка живе? кожен ремствуй на гріхи свої.

Nun. Our way has been searched out and examined, and we will turn to the Lord.	Випробуємо і дослідимо путі свої, і звернімося до Господа.

Let us lift up our hearts with our hands to the lofty One in heaven.	Піднесімо серце наше і руки до Бога, сущого на небесах:

We have sinned, we have transgressed; and thou hast not pardoned.	ми відпали й були вперті; Ти не пощадив.

Samech. Thou hast visited us in wrath, and driven us away: thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.	Ти покрив Себе гнівом і переслідував нас, умертвляв, не щадив;

Thou hast veiled thyself with a cloud because of prayer, that I might be blind,	Ти закрив Себе хмарою, щоб не доходила молитва наша;

and be cast off. Ain. Thou hast set us alone in the midst of the nations.	сміттям і мерзотою Ти зробив нас серед народів.

All our enemies have opened their mouth against us.	Розкрили на нас пастку свою всі вороги наші.

Fear and wrath are come upon us, suspense and destruction.	Жах і яма, спустошення і руйнування — доля наша.

Mine eye shall pour down torrents of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.	Потоки вод виливає око моє через загибель дочки народу мого.

Phe. Mine eye is drowned with tears, and I will not be silent, so that there shall be no rest,	Око моє виливається і не перестає, бо немає полегшення,

until the Lord look down, and behold from heaven.	доки не зглянеться і не побачить Господь з небес.

Mine eye shall prey upon my soul, because of all the daughters of the city.	Око моє засмучує душу мою заради всіх дочок мого міста.

Tsade. The fowlers chased me as a sparrow, all mine enemies destroyed my life in a pit without cause,	Всіляко намагалися вловити мене, як пташку, вороги мої, без усякої причини;

and laid a stone upon me.	скинули життя моє в яму і закидали мене камінням.

Water flowed over my head: I said, I am cut off.	Води піднялися до голови моєї; я сказав: «загинув я».

Koph. I called upon thy name, O Lord, out of the lowest dungeon.	Я заклика́в ім’я Твоє, Господи, з ями глибокої.

Thou heardest my voice: close not thine ears to my supplication.	Ти чув голос мій; не закрий вуха Твого від зітхання мого, від волання мого.

Thou drewest nigh to my help: in the day wherein I called upon thee thou saidst to me, Fear not.	Ти наближався, коли я взивав до Тебе, і говорив: «не бійся».

Rechs. O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.	Ти захищав, Господи, діло душі моєї; відкупляв життя моє.

Thou hast seen, O Lord, my troubles: thou hast judged my cause.	Ти бачиш, Господи, образу мою; розсуди діло моє.

Thou hast seen all their vengeance, thou hast looked on all their devices against me.	Ти бачиш усю мстивість їх, усі задуми їх проти мене.

Chsen. Thou hast heard their reproach and all their devices against me;	Ти чуєш, Господи, наругу їх, усі задуми їх проти мене,

the lips of them that rose up against me, and their plots against me all the day;	слова тих, хто повстає на мене і їхні хитрощі проти мене кожного дня.

their sitting down and their rising up: look thou upon their eyes.	Поглянь, чи сидять вони, чи встають, я для них — пісня.

Thou wilt render them a recompence, O Lord, according to the works of their hands.	Воздай їм, Господи, за ділами рук їх;

Thau. Thou wilt give them as a covering, the grief of my heart.	пошли їм затьмарення серця і прокляття Твоє на них;

Thou wilt persecute them in anger, and wilt consume them from under the heaven, O Lord.	переслідуй їх, Господи, гнівом, і знищ їх з піднебесної.
