Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,

in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came unto John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness.
|
при архієре́и А́ннѣ и Каіа́фѣ, бы́сть глаго́лъ Бо́жій ко Іоа́нну Заха́ріину сы́ну въ пусты́ни.

And he came into all the region round about the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins;
|
И пріи́де во всю́ страну́ Іорда́нскую, проповѣ́дая креще́ніє покая́нія во оставле́ніє грѣхо́въ:

|
as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.
|
я́коже є́сть пи́сано въ кни́зѣ слове́съ Иса́іи проро́ка, глаго́люща: гла́съ вопію́щаго въ пусты́ни: угото́вайте пу́ть Госпо́день: пра́вы твори́те стези́ Єго́:

Every valley shall be filled, And every mountain and hill shall be brought low; And the crooked shall become straight, And the rough ways smooth;
|
вся́ка де́брь испо́лнится, и вся́ка гора́ и хо́лмъ смири́тся: и бу́дутъ стро́потная въ пра́вая, и о́стріи въ пути́ гла́дки:
|

|
And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
|
и у́зритъ вся́ка пло́ть спасе́ніє Бо́жіє.

|
He said therefore to the multitudes that went out to be baptized of him, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
|
Глаго́лаше же исходя́щымъ наро́домъ крести́тися от него́: порожде́нія єхі́днова, кто́ сказа́ ва́мъ бѣжа́ти от гряду́щаго гнѣ́ва?

|
Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
|
Сотвори́те у́бо плоды́ досто́ины покая́нія: и не начина́йте глаго́лати въ себѣ́: отца́ и́мамы Авраа́ма: глаго́лю бо ва́мъ, я́ко мо́жетъ Бо́гъ от ка́менія сего́ воздви́гнути ча́да Авраа́му.

|
And even now the axe also lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
|
Уже́ бо и сѣки́ра при ко́рени дре́ва лежи́тъ: вся́ко у́бо дре́во, не творя́щеє плода́ добра́, посѣка́єтся и во о́гнь вмета́єтся.

|
And the multitudes asked him, saying, What then shall we do?
|
И вопроша́ху єго́ наро́ди, глаго́люще: что́ у́бо сотвори́мъ?
|
|

|
|
And he answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath food, let him do likewise.
|
Отвѣща́въ же глаго́ла и́мъ: имѣ́яй двѣ́ ри́зѣ, да пода́стъ не иму́щему: и имѣ́яй бра́шна, та́кожде да твори́тъ.

|
And there came also publicans to be baptized, and they said unto him, Teacher, what shall we do?
|
Пріидо́ша же и мы́тари крести́тися от него́, и рѣ́ша къ нему́: учи́телю, что́ сотвори́мъ?
|

|
And he said unto them, Extort no more than that which is appointed you.
|
О́нъ же рече́ къ ни́мъ: ничто́же бо́лѣє от повелѣ́ннаго ва́мъ твори́те.
|
|

|
|
And soldiers also asked him, saying, And we, what shall we do? And he said unto them, Extort from no man by violence, neither accuse anyone wrongfully; and be content with your wages.
|
Вопроша́ху же єго́ и во́ини, глаго́люще: и мы́ что́ сотвори́мъ? И рече́ къ ни́мъ: ни кого́же оби́дите, ни оклеветава́йте: и дово́лни бу́дите обро́ки ва́шими.

|
And as the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether haply he were the Christ;
|
Ча́ющымъ же лю́демъ, и помышля́ющымъ всѣ́мъ въ сердца́хъ свои́хъ о Іоа́ннѣ, єда́ то́й є́сть Христо́съ,

|
John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but there cometh he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire:
|
отвѣщава́ше Іоа́ннъ всѣ́мъ, глаго́ля: а́зъ у́бо водо́ю креща́ю вы́: гряде́тъ же Крѣ́плій мене́, Єму́же нѣ́смь досто́инъ отрѣши́ти реме́нь сапогу́ Єго́: То́й вы́ крести́тъ Ду́хомъ Святы́мъ и огне́мъ:

|
whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
|
Єму́же лопа́та въ руку́ Єго́, и отреби́тъ гумно́ Своє́, и собере́тъ пшени́цу въ жи́тницу Свою́, пле́вы же сожже́тъ огне́мъ негаса́ющимъ.

|
With many other exhortations therefore preached he good tidings unto the people;
|
Мно́га же у́бо и и́на, утѣша́я благовѣствова́ше лю́демъ.
|

|
but Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother’s wife, and for all the evil things which Herod had done,
|
(Зач. 10) И́родъ же четвертовла́стникъ, облича́ємъ от него́ о Иродіа́дѣ женѣ́ бра́та своєго́, и о всѣ́хъ, я́же сотвори́ зла́я И́родъ,

added this also to them all, that he shut up John in the prison.
|
приложи́ и сіє́ надъ всѣ́ми, и затвори́ Іоа́нна въ темни́цѣ.

|
Now it came to pass, when all the people were baptized, that, Jesus also having been baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
|
Бы́сть же єгда́ крести́шася вси́ лю́діє, и Іису́су кре́щшуся и моля́щуся, отве́рзеся не́бо,

|
and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form, as a dove, upon him, and a voice came out of heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
|
и сни́де Ду́хъ Святы́й тѣле́снымъ о́бразомъ, я́ко го́лубь, На́нь: и гла́съ съ небесе́ бы́сть, глаго́ля: Ты́ єси́ Сы́нъ Мо́й Возлю́бленный, о Тебѣ́ благоволи́хъ.

And Jesus himself, when he began to teach, was about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, the son of Heli,
|
