For the holy spirit of discipline will flee deceit, and remove from thoughts that are without understanding, and will not abide when unrighteousness cometh in. с™hй бо д¦ъ наказaніz tбэжи1тъ льсти1ва и3 tи1метсz t помышлeній неразyмныхъ и3 њбличи1тсz t находsщіz непрaвды.

For wisdom is a loving spirit; and will not acquit a blasphemer of his words: for God is witness of his reins, and a true beholder of his heart, and a hearer of his tongue. For the Spirit of the Lord filleth the world: and that which containeth all things hath knowledge of the voice. ћкw д¦ъ гDень и3сп0лни вселeнную, и3 содержaй вс‰ рaзумъ и4мать глaса.

Therefore he that speaketh unrighteous things cannot be hidden: neither shall vengeance, when it punisheth, pass by him. Сегw2 рaди вэщazй непрaвєднаz никт0же ўтаи1тсz, и3 не ми1мw и4детъ є3гw2 њбличaющь сyдъ.

For inquisition shall be made into the counsels of the ungodly: and the sound of his words shall come unto the Lord for the manifestation of his wicked deeds. Въ совётэхъ бо нечести1вагw и3стzзaніе бyдетъ, словeсъ же є3гw2 слhшаніе ко гDу пріи1детъ во њбличeніе беззак0ній є3гw2:

For the ear of jealousy heareth all things: and the noise of murmurings is not hid. ћкw ќхо рвeніz слhшитъ вс‰, и3 молвA роптaній не крhетсz.

Therefore beware of murmuring, which is unprofitable; and refrain your tongue from backbiting: for there is no word so secret, that shall go for nought: and the mouth that belieth slayeth the soul. Храни1тесz u5бо t роптaніz неполeзна и3 t њболгaніz щади1те љзhкъ: ћкw вэщaніе тaйное тщE не прeйдетъ, ўстA же лж{щаz ўбивaютъ дyшу.

Seek not death in the error of your life: and pull not upon yourselves destruction with the works of your hands. Не вожделёйте смeрти въ заблуждeніи животA вaшегw, нижE привлекaйте поги1бели дэлaми рyкъ вaшихъ:

For God made not death: neither hath he pleasure in the destruction of the living. ћкw бGъ смeрти не сотвори2, ни весели1тсz њ поги1бели живhхъ.

For he created all things, that they might have their being: and the generations of the world were healthful; and there is no poison of destruction in them, nor the kingdom of death upon the earth: Создa бо во є4же бhти всBмъ, и3 спаси1тєлны быті‰ мjра, ни бо2 є4сть въ ни1хъ врачевaніz губи1телнагw, нижE ѓду цaрствіz на земли2.

(for righteousness is immortal:) Прaвда бо безсмeртна є4сть: (непрaвда же смeрти снабдёніе:)

but ungodly men with their works and words called it to them: for when they thought to have it their friend, they consumed to nought, and made a covenant with it, because they are worthy to take part with it. нечести1віи же рукaма и3 словесы2 призвaша ю5, други1ню вмэни1ша ю5 и3 и3стazша, и3 завётъ положи1ша съ нeю, ћкw дост0йни сyть џноz чaсти бhти.

For the ungodly said, reasoning with themselves, but not aright, Our life is short and tedious, and in the death of a man there is no remedy: neither was there any man known to have returned from the grave. Рек0ша бо въ себЁ помышлsющіи непрaвw: мaлъ є4сть и3 печaленъ жив0тъ нaшъ, и3 нёсть и3зцэлeніz въ кончи1нэ человёчестэ, и3 нёсть познaнъ возврати1выйсz t ѓда.

For we are born at all adventure: and we shall be hereafter as though we had never been: for the breath in our nostrils is as smoke, and a little spark in the moving of our heart: Ћкw самослучaйнw рождeни є3смы2, и3 по сeмъ бyдемъ ћкоже не бhвше: понeже дhмъ дыхaніе въ н0здрехъ нaшихъ, и3 сл0во и4скра въ движeніи сeрдца нaшегw:

which being extinguished, our body shall be turned to ashes, and our spirit shall vanish as the soft air, є4йже ўгaсшей пeпелъ бyдетъ тёло, и3 дyхъ нaшъ разліeтсz ћкw мsгкій воздyхъ,

and our name shall be forgotten in time, and no man shall have our works in remembrance, and our life shall pass away as the trace of a cloud, and shall be dispersed as a mist, that is driven away with the beams of the sun, and overcome with the heat thereof. и3 и4мz нaше забвeно бyдетъ во врeмz, и3 никт0же воспомzнeтъ дёлъ нaшихъ: и3 прeйдетъ жив0тъ нaшъ ћкw слэды2 w4блака, и3 ћкw мглA разруши1тсz, разгнaнаz t л{чь с0лнечныхъ и3 теплот0ю є3гw2 њтzгчи1вшисz.

For our time is a very shadow that passeth away; and after our end there is no returning: for it is fast sealed, so that no man cometh again. Стёни бо прех0дъ житіE нaше, и3 нёсть возвращeніz кончи1ны нaшеz: ћкw запечaтана є4сть, и3 никто2 возвращaетсz.

Come on therefore, let us enjoy the good things that are present: and let us speedily use the creatures like as in youth. Пріиди1те u5бо и3 наслади1мсz настоsщихъ благи1хъ, и3 ўпотреби1мъ создaніz, ћкw въ ю4ности ск0рw:

Let us fill ourselves with costly wine and ointments: and let no flower of the spring pass by us. вінA дражaйшагw и3 мЂра (благов0нна) и3сп0лнимсz, и3 да не прeйдетъ нaсъ цвётъ житіS:

Let us crown ourselves with rosebuds, before they be withered: ўвэнчaимъ нaсъ ши1пковыми цвёты, прeжде нeже ўвsнутъ:

let none of us go without his part of our voluptuousness: let us leave tokens of our joyfulness in every place: for this is our portion, and our lot is this. ни є3ди1нъ t нaсъ лишeнъ да бyдетъ нaшегw наслаждeніz, вездЁ њстaвимъ знaменіе весeліz, ћкw сіS чaсть нaша и3 жрeбій сeй.

Let us oppress the poor righteous man, let us not spare the widow, nor reverence the ancient grey hairs of the aged. Наси1ліе сотвори1мъ ўб0гу првdному, не пощади1мъ вдови1цы, нижE стaрца ўстыди1мсz сэди1нъ многолётныхъ.

Let our strength be the law of justice: for that which is feeble is found to be nothing worth. Да бyдетъ же нaмъ крёпость зак0нъ прaвды: некрёпкое бо неполeзно њбрэтaетсz.

Therefore let us lie in wait for the righteous; because he is not for our turn, and he is clean contrary to our doings: he upbraideth us with our offending the law, and objecteth to our infamy the transgressings of our education. Ўлови1мъ же (лeстію) првdнаго, ћкw непотрeбенъ нaмъ є4сть и3 проти1витсz дэлHмъ нaшымъ, и3 пон0ситъ нaмъ грэхи2 зак0на и3 ѕлослaвитъ нaмъ грэхи2 ўчeніz нaшегw:

He professeth to have the knowledge of God: and he calleth himself the child of the Lord. возвэщaетъ нaмъ рaзумъ и3мёти б9ій, и3 џтрока гDнz себE и3менyетъ:

He was made to reprove our thoughts. бhсть нaмъ на њбличeніе помышлeній нaшихъ:

He is grievous unto us even to behold: for his life is not like other men's, his ways are of another fashion. тsжекъ є4сть нaмъ и3 къ видёнію, ћкw непод0бно (є4сть) и3ны6мъ житіE є3гw2, и3 tмBнны (сyть) стєзи2 є3гw2:

We are esteemed of him as counterfeits: he abstaineth from our ways as from filthiness: he pronounceth the end of the just to be blessed, and maketh his boast that God is his father. въ поругaніе вмэни1хомсz є3мY, и3 ўдалsетесz t путjй нaшихъ ћкw t нечист0тъ: блажи1тъ послBднzz првdныхъ и3 слaвитсz nц7A и3мёти (себЁ) бGа.

Let us see if his words be true: and let us prove what shall happen in the end of him. Ўви1димъ, ѓще словесA є3гw2 и4стинна, и3 и3скyсимъ ±же сбyдутсz є3мY.

For if the just man be the son of God, he will help him, and deliver him from the hand of his enemies. Ѓще бо є4сть и4стинный сhнъ б9ій, защи1титъ є3го2 и3 и3збaвитъ є3го2 t руки2 проти1вzщихсz.

Let us examine him with despitefulness and torture, that we may know his meekness, and prove his patience. Досаждeніемъ и3 мyкою и3стsжимъ є3го2, да ўвёмы кр0тость є3гw2 и3 и3скyсимъ безѕл0бство є3гw2:

Let us condemn him with a shameful death: for by his own saying he shall be respected. смeртію пон0сною њсyдимъ є3го2, бyдетъ бо є3мY разсмотрeніе t словeсъ є3гw2.

Such things they did imagine, and were deceived: for their own wickedness hath blinded them. Сі‰ помhслиша и3 прельсти1шасz: њслэпи1 бо и5хъ ѕл0ба и4хъ,

As for the mysteries of God, they knew them not: neither hoped they for the wages of righteousness, nor discerned a reward for blameless souls. и3 не ўвёдэша т†инъ б9іихъ, нижE мзды2 ўповaша препод0біz, нижE присуди1ша чeсти душaмъ непорHчнымъ.

For God created man to be immortal, and made him to be an image of his own eternity. Ћкw бGъ создA человёка въ неистлёніе и3 во w4бразъ под0біz своегw2 сотвори2 є3го2:

Nevertheless through envy of the devil came death into the world: and they that are of his side do find it. зaвистію же діaволею смeрть вни1де въ мjръ: вкушaютъ же ю5, и5же t є3S чaсти сyть.
Chapter 3

But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and there shall no torment touch them. Првdныхъ не дyши въ руцЁ б9іей, и3 не прик0снетсz и4хъ мyка.

In the sight of the unwise they seemed to die: and their departure is taken for misery, Непщевaни бhша во џчію безyмныхъ ўмрeти, и3 вмэни1сz њѕлоблeніе и3сх0дъ и4хъ,

and their going from us to be utter destruction: but they are in peace. и3 є4же t нaсъ шeствіе сокрушeніе: nни1 же сyть въ ми1рэ.

For though they be punished in the sight of men, yet is their hope full of immortality. И$бо пред8 лицeмъ человёческимъ ѓще и3 мyку пріи1мутъ, ўповaніе и4хъ безсмeртіz и3сп0лнено:

And having been a little chastised, they shall be greatly rewarded: for God proved them, and found them worthy for himself. и3 вмaлэ накaзани бhвше, вели1кими благодётелствовани бyдутъ, ћкw бGъ и3скуси2 и5хъ и3 њбрёте и5хъ достHйны себЁ:

As gold in the furnace hath he tried them, and received them as a burnt offering. ћкw злaто въ горни1лэ и3скуси2 и5хъ, и3 ћкw всепл0діе жeртвенное пріsтъ |.

And in the time of their visitation they shall shine, and run to and fro like sparks among the stubble. И# во врeмz посэщeніz и4хъ возсіsютъ, и3 ћкw и4скры по стeблію потекyтъ:

They shall judge the nations, and have dominion over the people, and their Lord shall reign for ever. сyдzтъ kзhкwмъ и3 њбладaютъ людьми2, и3 воцRи1тсz въ ни1хъ гDь во вёки.

They that put their trust in him shall understand the truth: and such as be faithful in love shall abide with him: for grace and mercy is to his saints, and he hath care for his elect. Надёющіисz нaнь ўразумёютъ и4стину, и3 вёрніи въ любви2 пребyдутъ є3мY, ћкw блгdть и3 млcть въ прпdбныхъ є3гw2 и3 посэщeніе во и3збрaнныхъ є3гw2.

But the ungodly shall be punished according to their own imaginations, which have neglected the righteous, and forsaken the Lord. Нечести1віи же, ћкw помhслиша, пріи1мутъ запрещeніе, и5же неради1вшіи њ првdнэмъ и3 t гDа tступи1вше.

For whoso despiseth wisdom and nurture, he is miserable, and their hope is vain, their labours unfruitful, and their works unprofitable: Премyдрость бо и3 наказaніе ўничижazй њкаsненъ, и3 прaздно ўповaніе и4хъ, и3 труды2 безплHдны, и3 неключи6ма дэлA и4хъ:

their wives are foolish, and their children wicked: жєны2 и4хъ без{мны и3 лук†ва ч†да и4хъ, пр0клzто рождeніе и4хъ.

Their offspring is cursed. Wherefore blessed is the barren that is undefiled, which hath not known the sinful bed: she shall have fruit in the visitation of souls. Ћкw блажeна є4сть непл0ды неwсквернeнаz, ћже не познA л0жа во грэсЁ, и3мёти бyдетъ пл0дъ въ посэщeніи дyшъ:

And blessed is the eunuch, which with his hands hath wrought no iniquity, nor imagined wicked things against God: for unto him shall be given the special gift of faith, and an inheritance in the temple of the Lord more acceptable to his mind. и3 є3vнyхъ, и4же не содёла въ рукY (своє1ю) беззак0ніz, нижE помhсли на гDа лук†ваz, дaстсz бо є3мY вёры благодaть и3збрaнна и3 жрeбій во хрaмэ гDни ўг0днэйшій.

For glorious is the fruit of good labours: and the root of wisdom shall never fall away. Благи1хъ бо трудHвъ пл0дъ благослaвенъ, и3 не tпaдающь к0рень рaзума.

As for the children of adulterers, they shall not come to their perfection, and the seed of an unrighteous bed shall be rooted out. Ч†да же прелюбодёєвъ несовершє1на бyдутъ, и3 t законопрестyпнагw л0жа сёмz и3зчeзнетъ:

For though they live long, yet shall they be nothing regarded: and their last age shall be without honour. ѓще бо долгожив0тни бyдутъ, ни во чт0же вмэнsтсz, и3 безчeстна на послёдокъ стaрость и4хъ:

Or, if they die quickly, they have no hope, neither comfort in the day of trial. ѓще же ск0рw скончaютсz, не бyдутъ и3мёти ўповaніz, нижE въ дeнь судA ўтэшeніz:

For horrible is the end of the unrighteous generation. р0да бо непрaведнагw лю6таz њконч†ніz.

Better it is to have no children, and to have virtue: for the memorial thereof is immortal: because it is known with God, and with men. Лyчше безчaдство со добродётелію: безсмeртіе бо є4сть въ пaмzти є3S, ћкw и3 пред8 бGомъ познaетсz и3 пред8 человBки:

When it is present, men take example at it; and when it is gone, they desire it: it weareth a crown, and triumpheth for ever, having gotten the victory, striving for undefiled rewards. присyщую бо подражaютъ ю5 и3 желaютъ tшeдшіz, и3 въ вёцэ вэнцен0снw чти1тсz несквeрныхъ п0двигwвъ брaнь њдолёвши.

But the multiplying brood of the ungodly shall not thrive, nor take deep rooting from bastard slips, nor lay any fast foundation. Многопл0дно же нечести1выхъ мн0жество неключи1мо бyдетъ, и3 прелюбодBйнаz насаждє1ніz не дадyтъ корeніz въ глубинY, нижE крёпко стоsніе сотворsтъ:

For though they flourish in branches for a time; yet standing not fast, they shall be shaken with the wind, and through the force of winds they shall be rooted out. ѓще бо и3 вBтви на врeмz процвэтyтъ, не крёпкw возшeдше t вётра поколeблютсz и3 t ѕёлныхъ вётрwвъ и3скоренsтсz:

The imperfect branches shall be broken off, their fruit unprofitable, not ripe to eat, yea, meet for nothing. сокрушaтсz вBтви несовершє1нны, и3 пл0дъ и4хъ неключи1мь, њск0менъ въ снёдь, и3 ни во что2 потрeбенъ.

For children begotten of unlawful beds are witnesses of wickedness against their parents in their trial. T беззак0нныхъ бо снHвъ ч†да раждaємаz свидётеліе сyть лукaвствіz на роди1тєли во и3спытaніи и4хъ.

But though the righteous be prevented with death, yet shall he be in rest. Првdникъ же ѓще пости1гнетъ скончaтисz, въ пок0и бyдетъ:

For honourable age is not that which standeth in length of time, nor that is measured by number of years. стaрость бо честнA не многолётна, нижE въ числЁ лётъ и3зчитaетсz:

But wisdom is the grey hair unto men, and an unspotted life is old age. сэди1на же є4сть мyдрость человёкwмъ, и3 в0зрастъ стaрости житіE несквeрно.

He pleased God, and was beloved of him: so that living among sinners he was translated. Бlгоуг0денъ бGови бhвъ, возлю1бленъ бhсть, и3 живhй посредЁ грёшныхъ престaвленъ бhсть:

Yea, speedily was he taken away, lest that wickedness should alter his understanding, or deceit beguile his soul. восхищeнъ бhсть, да не ѕл0ба и3змэни1тъ рaзумъ є3гw2, и3ли2 лeсть прельсти1тъ дyшу є3гw2.

For the bewitching of naughtiness doth obscure things that are honest; and the wandering of concupiscence doth undermine the simple mind. Рачeніе бо ѕл0бы помрачaетъ дHбраz, и3 парeніе п0хоти премэнsетъ ќмъ неѕл0бивъ.

He, being made perfect in a short time, fulfilled a long time: Скончaвсz вмaлэ и3сп0лни лBта дHлга:

for his soul pleased the Lord: therefore hasted he to take him away from among the wicked. ўг0дна бо бЁ гDеви душA є3гw2, сегw2 рaди потщaсz t среды2 лукaвствіz:

This the people saw, and understood not, neither laid they up this in their minds, That his grace and mercy is with his saints, and that he hath respect unto his chosen. лю1діе же ви1дэвше и3 не разумёвше, нижE пол0жше въ помышлeніи таков0е, ћкw блгdть и3 млcть въ прпdбныхъ є3гw2 и3 посэщeніе во и3збрaнныхъ є3гw2.

Thus the righteous that is dead shall condemn the ungodly which are living; and youth that is soon perfected the many years and old age of the unrighteous. Њсyдитъ же првdникъ ўмирazй живhхъ нечести1выхъ, и3 ю4ность скончaвшаzсz ск0рw долголётную стaрость непрaведнагw.

For they shall see the end of the wise, and shall not understand what God in his counsel hath decreed of him, and to what end the Lord hath set him in safety. Ќзрzтъ бо кончи1ну премyдрагw и3 не ўразумёютъ, что2 ўсовётова њ нeмъ и3 во что2 ўтверди2 є3го2 гDь:

They shall see him, and despise him; but God shall laugh them to scorn; and they shall hereafter be a vile carcase, and a reproach among the dead for evermore. ќзрzтъ и3 ўничижaтъ є3го2, гDь же посмэeтсz и5мъ:

For he shall rend them, and cast them down headlong, that they shall be speechless; and he shall shake them from the foundation; and they shall be utterly laid waste, and be in sorrow; and their memorial shall perish. и3 бyдутъ посeмъ въ падeніе безчeстно и3 во ўкори1зну въ мeртвыхъ въ вёкъ: ћкw раст0ргнетъ и5хъ безгл†сны ни1цъ и3 поколeблетъ и5хъ t њсновaній, и3 дaже до послёднихъ њпустёютъ и3 бyдутъ въ болёзни, и3 пaмzть и5хъ поги1бнетъ:

And when they cast up the account of their sins, they shall come with fear: and their own iniquities shall convince them to their face. пріи1дутъ въ помышлeніе грэхHвъ свои1хъ боzзли1віи, и3 њбличaтъ и5хъ проти1ву беззакHніz и4хъ.

Then shall the righteous man stand in great boldness before the face of such as have afflicted him, and made no account of his labours. ТогдA стaнетъ во дерзновeніи мн0зэ првdникъ пред8 лицeмъ њскорби1вшихъ є3го2 и3 tметaющихъ труды2 є3гw2:

When they see it, they shall be troubled with terrible fear, and shall be amazed at the strangeness of his salvation, so far beyond all that they looked for. ви1дzщіи смzтyтсz стрaхомъ тsжкимъ и3 ўжaснутсz њ преслaвнэмъ спасeніи є3гw2,

And they repenting and groaning for anguish of spirit shall say within themselves, This was he, whom we had sometimes in derision, and a proverb of reproach: и3 рекyтъ въ себЁ кaющесz и3 въ тэснотЁ дyха воздыхaюще: сeй бЁ, є3г0же и3мёхомъ нёкогда въ посмёхъ и3 въ при1тчу поношeніz.

we fools accounted his life madness, and his end to be without honour: Безyмніи, житіE є3гw2 вмэни1хомъ неи1стово и3 кончи1ну є3гw2 безчeстну:

how is he numbered among the children of God, and his lot is among the saints! кaкw вмэни1сz въ сн7ёхъ б9іихъ, и3 во с™hхъ жрeбій є3гw2 є4сть;

Therefore have we erred from the way of truth, and the light of righteousness hath not shined unto us, and the sun of righteousness rose not upon us. ?И$бо заблуди1хомъ t пути2 и4стиннагw, и3 прaвды свётъ не њблистA нaмъ, и3 с0лнце не возсіS нaмъ:

give me wisdom, that sitteth by thy throne; and reject me not from among thy children: дaждь мнЁ твои6мъ пrт0лwмъ присэдsщую премdрость и3 не tри1ни менE t џтрwкъ твои1хъ:

for I thy servant and son of thine handmaid am a feeble person, and of a short time, and too young for the understanding of judgment and laws. ћкw ѓзъ рaбъ тв0й и3 сhнъ рабhни твоеS, человёкъ нeмощенъ и3 маловрeмененъ и3 ўмaленъ въ рaзумэ судA и3 зак0нwвъ.

For though a man be never so perfect among the children of men, yet if thy wisdom be not with him, he shall be nothing regarded. Ѓще бо кто2 бyдетъ и3 совершeнъ въ сынёхъ человёческихъ, tсyтствующей твоeй премdрости, ни во чт0же вмэни1тсz.

Thou hast chosen me to be a king of thy people, and a judge of thy sons and daughters: Ты2 и3збрaлъ мS є3си2 царS лю1демъ твои6мъ и3 судію2 сынHмъ твои6мъ и3 дщeремъ,

thou hast commanded me to build a temple upon thy holy mount, and an altar in the city wherein thou dwellest, a resemblance of the holy tabernacle, which thou hast prepared from the beginning. и3 рeклъ ми2 є3си2 создaти хрaмъ въ горЁ с™ёй твоeй и3 во грaдэ њбитaніz твоегw2 nлтaрь, под0біемъ ски1ніи (твоеS) с™hz, ю4же пред8угот0валъ є3си2 t начaла.

And wisdom was with thee: which knoweth thy works, and was present when thou madest the world, and knew what was acceptable in thy sight, and right in thy commandments. И# съ тоб0ю премdрость вёдущаz дэлA тво‰ и3 присyтствующаz тогдA, є3гдA мjръ твори1лъ є3си2, и3 вёдущаz, что2 є4сть ўг0дно пред8 nчи1ма твои1ма и3 что2 прaво въ зaповэдехъ твои1хъ:

O send her out of thy holy heavens, and from the throne of thy glory, that being present she may labour with me, that I may know what is pleasing unto thee. посли2 ю5 съ нб7съ с™hхъ и3 t пrт0ла слaвы твоеS посли2 ю5: да сyщи со мн0ю труди1тсz, и3 ўвёмъ, что2 благоуг0дно є4сть пред8 тоб0ю:

For she knoweth and understandeth all things, and she shall lead me soberly in my doings, and preserve me in her power. вёсть бо nнA вс‰ и3 разумёетъ, и3 настaвитъ мS въ дёлэхъ мои1хъ цэломyдреннэ и3 сохрани1тъ мS во слaвэ своeй:

So shall my works be acceptable, and then shall I judge thy people righteously, and be worthy to sit in my father's seat. и3 бyдутъ прі‰тна дэлA мо‰, и3 разсуждY лю1ди тво‰ прaведнэ, и3 бyду дост0инъ прест0лwвъ nтцA моегw2.

For what man is he that can know the counsel of God? or who can think what the will of the Lord is? Кт0 бо t человBкъ познaетъ совётъ б9ій; и3ли2 кто2 помhслитъ, что2 х0щетъ бGъ;

For the thoughts of mortal men are miserable, and our devices are but uncertain. Помышлє1ніz бо смeртныхъ боzзли6ва, и3 погрэши1тєлна ўмышлє1ніz н†ша:

For the corruptible body presseth down the soul, and the earthy tabernacle weigheth down the mind that museth upon many things. тёло бо тлённое њтzгощaетъ дyшу, и3 земн0е жили1ще њбременsетъ ќмъ многопопечи1теленъ.

And hardly do we guess aright at things that are upon earth, and with labour do we find the things that are before us: but the things that are in heaven who hath searched out? И# є3двA разумэвaемъ, ±же на земли2, и3 ±же въ рукaхъ њбрэтaемъ со труд0мъ: ґ ±же на нб7сёхъ, кто2 и3зслёди;

And thy counsel who hath known, except thou give wisdom, and send thy Holy Spirit from above? В0лю же твою2 кто2 познA, ѓще бы не ты2 дaлъ є3си2 премyдрость и3 послaлъ є3си2 д¦а с™aго твоего2 t высоты2;

For so the ways of them which lived on the earth were reformed, and men were taught the things that are pleasing unto thee, and were saved through wisdom. И# тaкw и3спрaвишасz стєзи2 сyщихъ на земли2, и3 ±же тебЁ ўгHдна, научи1шасz человёцы

She preserved the first formed father of the world, that was created alone, and brought him out of his fall, СіS первоздaннаго nтцA мjру є3ди1наго создaннаго сохрани2 и3 и3зведE є3го2 t грэхA є3гw2,

and gave him power to rule all things. дадe же є3мY крёпость содержaти всsчєскаz.

But when the unrighteous went away from her in his anger, he perished also in the fury wherewith he murdered his brother. Tступи1въ же t неS непрaведный во гнёвэ своeмъ со братоубjйственными поги1бе ћростьми:

For whose cause the earth being drowned with the flood, wisdom again preserved it, and directed the course of the righteous in a piece of wood of small value. є3гHже рaди потоплsему зeмлю пaки спасE премyдрость, мaлымъ дрeвомъ првdника соблю1дши.

Moreover, the nations in their wicked conspiracy being confounded, she found out the righteous, and preserved him blameless unto God, and kept him strong against his tender compassion toward his son. СіS и3 во є3диномhсліи лукaвства смёшеныхъ kзhкwвъ њбрёте првdника и3 сохрани2 є3го2 непор0чна бGу, и3 въ поболёніи њ чaдэ крёпка соблюдE.

When the ungodly perished, she delivered the righteous man, who fled from the fire which fell down upon the five cities. СіS првdнаго, погибaющымъ нечести1вымъ, и3збaви бэжaщаго t nгнS низходsща на пsть градHвъ:

Of whose wickedness, even to this day the waste land that smoketh is a testimony, and plants bearing fruit that never come to ripeness: and a standing pillar of salt is a monument of an unbelieving soul. и4хже є3щE свидётелство лукaвствіz дымsщаzсz стои1тъ землS пустA, и3 несовершeнными времены2 плодонос‰щаz древесA, и3 невёрныz души2 пaмzть стоsщь ст0лпъ слaнъ.

For regarding not wisdom, they gat not only this hurt, that they knew not the things which were good; but also left behind them to the world a memorial of their foolishness: so that in the things wherein they offended they could not so much as be hid. Премyдрость бо мимоходsщіи не т0кмw повреди1шасz, є4же не вёдэти блaга, но и3 безyміz своегw2 њстaвиша житію2 пaмzть, да въ ни1хже согрэши1ша, нижE ўтаи1тисz возм0гутъ.

But wisdom delivered from pain those that attended upon her. Премyдрость же служaщихъ є4й t болёзней и3збaви.

When the righteous fled from his brother's wrath, she guided him in right paths, shewed him the kingdom of God, and gave him knowledge of holy things, made him rich in his travels, and multiplied the fruit of his labours. СіS бэжaщаго t гнёва брaтнz првdника настaви на стєзи2 пр†вы и3 показA є3мY цrтвіе б9іе и3 дадE є3мY рaзумъ с™hхъ, почтE є3го2 въ трудёхъ и3 ўмн0жи труды2 є3гw2.

In the covetousness of such as oppressed him she stood by him, and made him rich. Во њби1дэ њбдержaщихъ є3го2 предстA є3мY и3 њбогати2 є3го2,

She defended him from his enemies, and kept him safe from those that lay in wait, and in a sore conflict she gave him the victory; that he might know that godliness is stronger than all. сохрани2 є3го2 t вр†гъ, и3 t навётующихъ защити2 є3го2, и3 п0двигъ крёпокъ на побёду дадE є3мY, да ўвёсть, ћкw всёхъ сильнёе є4сть бlгочeстіе.

When the righteous was sold, she forsook him not, but delivered him from sin: she went down with him into the pit, СіS продaнаго првdника не њстaви, но t грэхA и3збaви є3го2: сни1де съ ни1мъ въ р0въ,

and left him not in bonds, till she brought him the sceptre of the kingdom, and power against those that oppressed him: as for them that had accused him, she shewed them to be liars, and gave him perpetual glory. и3 во ќзахъ не њстaви є3го2, д0ндеже принесE є3мY ски1птръ цaрствіz и3 влaсть на мyчащихъ є3го2: лжи1выхъ же показA, пор0къ сотв0ршихъ нaнь, и3 дадE є3мY слaву вёчную.

She delivered the righteous people and blameless seed from the nation that oppressed them. СіS людeй препод0бныхъ и3 сёмz непор0чное и3збaви t kзы6къ њскорблsющихъ:

She entered into the soul of the servant of the Lord, and withstood dreadful kings in wonders and signs; вни1де въ дyшу рабA гDнz и3 востA проти1ву царeй стрaшныхъ въ чудесёхъ и3 знaменіихъ.

rendered to the righteous a reward of their labours, guided them in a marvellous way, and was unto them for a cover by day, and a light of stars in the night season; ВоздадE преподHбнымъ мздY трудHвъ и4хъ, настaви и5хъ въ пyть ди1венъ и3 бhсть и5мъ въ покр0въ днeмъ и3 въ плaмень ѕвёздъ въ нощи2.

brought them through the Red sea, and led them through much water: ПреведE и5хъ но м0рю чермн0му и3 проведE и5хъ сквозЁ в0ду мн0гу:

but she drowned their enemies, and cast them up out of the bottom of the deep. враги1 же и4хъ потопи2 и3 и3з8 глубины2 бeздны и3зри1ну и5хъ.

Therefore the righteous spoiled the ungodly, and praised thy holy name, O Lord, and magnified with one accord thine hand, that fought for them. Сегw2 рaди прaведніи взsша кwрhсти нечести1выхъ и3 воспёша, гDи, и4мz с™0е твоE, и3 њдолётелницу рyку твою2 похвали1ша є3динодyшнэ:

For wisdom opened the mouth of the dumb, and made the tongues of them that cannot speak eloquent. ћкw премyдрость tвeрзе ўстA нэмhхъ и3 љзhки младeнцємъ сотвори2 ћсны.

She prospered their works in the hand of the holy prophet. Ўпрaви дэлA и4хъ рук0ю прbр0ка с™aгw:

They went through the wilderness that was not inhabited, and pitched tents in places where there lay no way. проид0ша пустhню неwбитaнную и3 въ непроходи1мыхъ водрузи1ша кyщы,

They stood against their enemies, and were avenged of their adversaries. сопроти1вишасz супостaтwмъ и3 tмсти1ша врагHмъ:

When they were thirsty, they called upon thee, and water was given them out of the flinty rock, and their thirst was quenched out of the hard stone. возжадaша и3 призвaша тебE, и3 данA бhсть и5мъ водA t кaмене несэк0магw и3 и3зцэлeніе жaжды t кaмене жeстока.

For by what things their enemies were punished, by the same they in their need were benefited. И$миже бо накaзани бhша врази2 и4хъ,

For instead of a fountain of a perpetual running river troubled with foul blood, си1ми сjи во њскудёніи сyще благодётелствовани бhша:

for a manifest reproof of that commandment, whereby the infants were slain, thou gavest unto them abundance of water by a means which they hoped not for: за и3ст0чникъ ќбw пrнотекyщіz рэки2, кр0вію и3зліsнною смzтeнныz,

declaring by that thirst then how thou hadst punished their adversaries. во њбличeніе младенцеубjйственнагw повелёніz, дaлъ є3си2 и5мъ и3з8oби1лну в0ду безнадeжнw,

For when they were tried, albeit but in mercy chastised, they knew how the ungodly were judged in wrath and tormented, thirsting in another manner than the just. показaвъ тогдA жaждею, кaкw проти1вныхъ ўмyчилъ є3си2.

For these thou didst admonish and try, as a father: but the others, as a severe king, thou didst condemn and punish. Е#гдa бо и3скушeни бhша и3 въ ми1лости накaзани, познaша, кaкw во гнёвэ суди1міи нечести1віи мyчишасz:

Whether they were absent or present, they were vexed alike. си1хъ бо ћкw nц7ъ ўчaщь и3скуси1лъ є3си2, џнэхъ же ћкw жeстокъ цRь њсуждaz и3стzзaлъ є3си2.

For a double grief came upon them, and a groaning for the remembrance of things past. Tстоsщіи же и3 присyтствующіи тaкожде мyчишасz:

For when they heard by their own punishments the other to be benefited, they had some feeling of the Lord. сугyба бо и5хъ пріsтъ печaль и3 стенaніе съ пaмzтію минyвшихъ.

For whom they rejected with scorn, when he was long before thrown out at the casting forth of the infants, him in the end, when they saw what came to pass, they admired. Е#гдa бо слhшаху свои1ми мучє1ніи благодёйствуемыхъ џныхъ, познавaху гDа:

But for the foolish devices of their wickedness, wherewith being deceived they worshipped serpents void of reason, and vile beasts, thou didst send a multitude of unreasonable beasts upon them for vengeance: є3г0же бо дрeвле во tложeніи tвeржена tрек0шасz смэю1щесz, при концы2 собhтіz ўдиви1шасz, непод0бною прaвєднымъ томи1ми жaждею.

that they might know, that wherewithal a man sinneth, by the same shall he be punished. За помышлє1ніz же без{мнаz непрaвды и4хъ, въ ни1хже заблуди1вше почитaху безсловє1снаz пресмык†ющаzсz и3 ѕвэрeй худhхъ, послaлъ є3си2 и5мъ мн0жество безсловeсныхъ жив0тныхъ во tмщeніе,

For thy Almighty hand, that made the world of matter without form, wanted not means to send among them a multitude of bears, or fierce lions, да познaютъ, ћкw и4миже кто2 согрэшaетъ, си1ми и3 мyчитсz.

or unknown wild beasts, full of rage, newly created, breathing out either a fiery vapour, or filthy scents of scattered smoke, or shooting horrible sparkles out of their eyes: Не неможaше бо всеси1льнаz рукA твоS, ћже сотвори2 мjръ t без8wбрaзнагw веществA, послaти на ни1хъ мн0жество медвёдей, и3ли2 лю1тыхъ львHвъ,

whereof not only the harm might dispatch them at once, but also the terrible sight utterly destroy them. и3ли2 новосоздaнныхъ ћрости и3сп0лненыхъ ѕвэрeй незнaемыхъ, и3ли2 џгненнымъ дhшущихъ дyхомъ, и3ли2 ѕлосмрaдный произносsщихъ дhмъ, и3ли2 стр†шныz и3з8 nчeй и4скры и3спускaющихъ:

Yea, and without these might they have fallen down with one blast, being persecuted of vengeance, and scattered abroad through the breath of thy power: but thou hast ordered all things in measure and number and weight. и4хже не т0кмw врeдъ можaше и3стреби1ти |, но и3 зрaкъ ўстрашaющь погуби1ти.

For thou canst shew thy great strength at all times when thou wilt; and who may withstand the power of thine arm? И# без8 тёхъ, є3ди1нымъ дyхомъ пaсти мог0ша, t судA гони1ми и3 развёzни t д¦а си1лы твоеS: но вс‰ мёрою и3 числ0мъ и3 вёсомъ расположи1лъ є3си2.

For the whole world before thee is as a little grain of the balance, yea, as a drop of the morning dew that falleth down upon the earth. Е$же бо мн0гw мощи2, присyтствуетъ тебЁ всегдA, и3 держaвэ мhшцы твоеS кто2 сопроти1витсz;

But thou hast mercy upon all; for thou canst do all things, and winkest at the sins of men, because they should amend. Понeже, ћкоже стрaжикъ въ превёсэхъ, (тaкw) вeсь мjръ пред8 тоб0ю, и3 ћкw кaплz росы2 ќтренніz, сходsщіz на зeмлю.

For thou lovest all the things that are, and abhorrest nothing which thou hast made: for never wouldest thou have made any thing, if thou hadst hated it. Ми1луеши же всёхъ, ћкw вс‰ м0жеши, и3 презирaеши грэхи2 человёкwмъ въ покаsніе.

And how could any thing have endured, if it had not been thy will? or been preserved, if not called by thee? Лю1биши же с{щаz вс‰, и3 ни чесогHже гнушaешисz, ±же сотвори1лъ є3си2: нижe бо ненави1дz что2 ўстр0илъ є3си2.

But thou sparest all: for they are thine, O Lord, thou lover of souls. Кaкw же пребhло бы что2, ѓще бы ты2 не и3зв0лилъ є3си2; и3ли2, є4же не нарэчeно t тебє2, сохрани1лосz бы;

For thine incorruptible Spirit is in all things. Нетлённый бо д¦ъ тв0й є4сть во всёхъ.

Therefore chastenest thou them by little and little that offend, and warnest them by putting them in remembrance wherein they have offended, that leaving their wickedness they may believe on thee, O Lord. Тёмже заблуждaющихъ помaлу њбличaеши, и3 въ ни1хже согрэшaютъ, воспоминaz ўчи1ши, да премэни1вшесz t ѕл0бы вёруютъ въ тS, гDи.

For it was thy will to destroy by the hands of our fathers both those old inhabitants of thy holy land, И# дрeвнихъ бо њбитaтелей земли2 с™hz твоеS возненави1дэвъ,

whom thou hatedst for doing most odious works of witchcrafts, and wicked sacrifices; рaди дэsній ѕлhхъ волшвeній, ±же творsху, и3 жeртвъ непрепод0бныхъ,

and also those merciless murderers of children, and devourers of man's flesh, and the feasts of blood, и3 чадоубjйцъ неми1лостивыхъ, и3 ўтробоsдцєвъ человёческихъ пл0тей, и3 кровопjйцєвъ t среды2 с™hни твоеS,

with their priests out of the midst of their idolatrous crew, and the parents, that killed with their own hands souls destitute of help: и3 роди1телей ўби1вшихъ дyшы безпомHщныz, восхотёлъ є3си2 погуби1ти рукaми nтє1цъ нaшихъ:

that the land, which thou esteemedst above all other, might receive a worthy colony of God's children. да дост0йное пріи1метъ преселeніе nтрокHвъ б9іихъ, ћже ў тебє2 всёхъ дражaйшаz землS.

Nevertheless even those thou sparedst as men, and didst send wasps, forerunners of thine host, to destroy them by little and little. Но и3 си1хъ ћкw человёкwвъ пощади1лъ є3си2, послaлъ же є3си2 предтекyщыz в0инства твоегw2 џсы, ћкw да тёхъ помaлу и3стребsтъ.

Not that thou wast unable to bring the ungodly under the hand of the righteous in battle, or to destroy them at once with cruel beasts, or with one rough word: Не неси1ленъ є3си2 во брaни покори1ти нечести1выхъ прaвєднымъ, и3ли2 ѕвёремъ свирBпымъ, и3ли2 сл0вомъ жeстокимъ до є3ди1нагw потреби1ти:

but executing thy judgments upon them by little and little, thou gavest them place of repentance, not being ignorant that they were a naughty generation, and that their malice was bred in them, and that their cogitation would never be changed. судsщь же помaлу давaлъ є3си2 мёсто покаsнію, не невёдzй, ћкw лукaвъ р0дъ и4хъ и3 є3стeственнаz ѕл0ба и4хъ, и3 ћкw не премэни1тсz помышлeніе и4хъ во вёкъ.

For it was a cursed seed from the beginning; neither didst thou for fear of any man give them pardon for those things wherein they sinned. Сёмz бо бЁ пр0клzто t начaла: нижE боsйсz когw2, tпущeніе даsлъ є3си2 грэхHмъ и4хъ.

For who shall say, What hast thou done? or who shall withstand thy judgment? or who shall accuse thee for the nations that perish, whom thou hast made? or who shall come to stand against thee, to be revenged for the unrighteous men? Кт0 бо речeтъ (тебЁ): что2 сотвори1лъ є3си2; И#ли2 кто2 стaнетъ проти1ву судY твоемY; кт0 же и3стsжетъ тS њ kзhцэхъ поги1бшихъ, и5хже ты2 сотвори1лъ є3си2; и3ли2 кто2 въ предстaтелство тебЁ пріи1детъ, tмсти1тель на непрaвєдныz человёки;

For neither is there any God but thou that careth for all, to whom thou mightest shew that thy judgment is not unright. Нёсть бо и4нъ бGъ рaзвэ тебє2, и4же ради1ши њ всёхъ, да покaжеши, ћкw не непрaвw суди1лъ є3си2.

Neither shall king or tyrant be able to set his face against thee for any whom thou hast punished. НижE цaрь, и3ли2 мучи1тель проти1ву тебє2 воззрёти м0жетъ, њ и4хже погуби1лъ є3си2.

Forsomuch then as thou art righteous thyself, thou orderest all things righteously: thinking it not agreeable with thy power to condemn him that hath not deserved to be punished. Првdнъ же сhй, првdнw вс‰ ўправлsеши, нед0лжнаго же мyчитисz њсуди1ти чyждо мни1ши твоеS си1лы.

For thy power is the beginning of righteousness, and because thou art the Lord of all, it maketh thee to be gracious unto all. Крёпость бо твоS прaвды начaло и3 є4же над8 всёми твоE вLчество, всёхъ щадёти твори1тъ.

For when men will not believe that thou art of a full power, thou shewest thy strength, and among them that know it thou makest their boldness manifest. Крёпость бо показyеши невёрующымъ њ совершeнствэ си1лы, ґ въ вёдущихъ дeрзость њбличaеши.

But thou, mastering thy power, judgest with equity, and orderest us with great favour: for thou mayest use power when thou wilt. Тh же вLчествуzй си1лою въ кр0тости сyдиши и3 съ вели1кимъ щадёніемъ разсмотрsеши нaсъ: съ тоб0ю бо є4сть, є3гдA х0щеши, є4же мощи2.

But by such works hast thou taught thy people that the just man should be merciful, and hast made thy children to be of a good hope that thou givest repentance for sins. Научи1лъ же є3си2 лю1ди тво‰ сицевhми дёлы, ћкw подобaетъ прaведному бhти человэколю1бцу, и3 благонадє1жны сотвори1лъ є3си2 сн7ы тво‰, ћкw даeши њ грэсёхъ покаsніе.

For if thou didst punish the enemies of thy children, and the condemned to death, with such deliberation, giving them time and place whereby they might be delivered from their malice: Ѓще бо враги2 nтрокHвъ твои1хъ и3 д0лжныхъ смeрти съ толи1кимъ мyчилъ є3си2 внsтіемъ и3 щадёніемъ, даsй временA и3 мёсто, и4миже бы и3змэни1лисz t ѕл0бы:

with how great circumspection didst thou judge thine own sons, unto whose fathers thou hast sworn, and made covenants of good promises? съ коли1кимъ прилэжaніемъ суди1лъ є3си2 сн7ы тво‰, и4хже nтцє1мъ кл‰твы и3 завёты дaлъ є3си2 благи1хъ њбэщaній.

Therefore, whereas thou dost chasten us, thou scourgest our enemies a thousand times more, to the intent that, when we judge, we should carefully think of thy goodness, and when we ourselves are judged, we should look for mercy. Нaсъ u5бо наказyz, враги2 нaшz тмaми біeши, да бlгостhню твою2 помышлsемъ судsще, суди1ми же чaемъ ми1лости.

Wherefore, whereas men have lived dissolutely and unrighteously, thou hast tormented them with their own abominations. Toнyдуже и3 непрaведныхъ, во безyміи пожи1вшихъ жив0тъ, св0йственными и4хъ мeрзостьми мyчилъ є3си2,

For being conversant in his works they search him diligently, and believe their sight: because the things are beautiful that are seen. въ дёлэхъ бо є3гw2 живyще и3зслёдуютъ и3 ўвэщавaютсz зрaкомъ, ћкw бл†га ви6димаz.

Howbeit neither are they to be pardoned. Пaки нижE сjи прощeніz дост0йни:

For if they were able to know so much, that they could aim at the world; how did they not sooner find out the Lord thereof? ѓще бо толи1кw возмог0ша вёдэти, да возм0гутъ ўразумёти вёкъ, си1хъ же вLку кaкw скорёе не њбрэт0ша;

But miserable are they, and in dead things is their hope, who called them gods, which are the works of men's hands, gold and silver, to shew art in, and resemblances of beasts, or a stone good for nothing, the work of an ancient hand. and taking the very refuse among those which served to no use, being a crooked piece of wood, and full of knots, hath carved it diligently when he had nothing else to do, and formed it by the skill of his understanding, and fashioned it to the image of a man; њстaнокъ же и4же t ни1хъ ни во что2 благопотрeбенъ, дрeво кри1во и3 сyчіz п0лно, пріи1мъ и3зваS съ прилэжaніемъ прaздности своеS и3 и3скyсствомъ рaзума и3з8wбрази2 є3го2, и3 ўпод0би є3го2 w4бразу человёчу,

Nevertheless thou wouldest not that the works of thy wisdom should be idle, and therefore do men commit their lives to a small piece of wood, and passing the rough sea in a weak vessel are saved. For in the old time also, when the proud giants perished, the hope of the world governed by thy hand escaped in a weak vessel, and left to all ages a seed of generation. И# t начaла бо, є3гдA погибaху г0рдіи и3споли1ни, ўповaніе мjра въ кораблецЁ и3збэжaвшее, њстaви вёку сёмz рождeніz, рук0ю твоeю ўстр0ено.

For blessed is the wood whereby righteousness cometh. Благословeно бо дрeво, и4мже бывaетъ прaвда.

But that which is made with hands is cursed, as well it, as he that made it: he, because he made it: and it, because, being corruptible, it was called God. Рукотворeнное же пр0клzто є4сть, и3 сотвори1вый є5: ћкw џвъ ќбw содёла, сіe же тлённое б0гомъ и3меновaсz.

Therefore even upon the idols of the Gentiles shall there be a visitation: because in the creature of God they are become an abomination, and stumblingblocks to the souls of men, and a snare to the feet of the unwise. For a father afflicted with untimely mourning, when he hath made an image of his child soon taken away, now honoured him as a god, which was then a dead man, and delivered to those that were under him ceremonies and sacrifices. Thus in process of time an ungodly custom grown strong was kept as a law, and graven images were worshipped by the commandments of kings. пот0мъ врeменемъ возм0гшій нечести1вый њбhчай, ѓки зак0нъ храни1мь бhсть, и3 мучи1телей повелёніемъ почитaєма бsху и3зв†zннаz:

Whom men could not honour in presence, because they dwelt far off, they took the counterfeit of his visage from far, and made an express image of a king whom they honoured, to the end that by this their forwardness they might flatter him that was absent, as if he were present. и5хже въ лицE не могyще чествовaти человёцы дaльнагw рaди њбитaніz, и3здалeча лицE и3з8wбрази1вше, ћвный w4бразъ почитaемагw царS сотвори1ша, ћкw да tстоsщаго ѓки бли1з8 сyщаго ласкaютъ со прилэжaніемъ.

Also the singular diligence of the artificer did help to set forward the ignorant to more superstition. Въ продолжeніе же ѕлочeстіz и3 не разумёющихъ принyди худ0жниково любочeстіе.

For he, peradventure willing to please one in authority, forced all his skill to make the resemblance of the best fashion. Сeй бо хотS ўгоди1ти держaвствующему, произведE хи1тростію (своeю) под0біе на лyчшее:

And so the multitude, allured by the grace of the work, took him now for a god, which a little before was but honoured as a man. мн0жество же человBкъ, привлечeно благоwбрaзіемъ дёла, прeжде вмaлэ чествовaнаго человёка нн7э въ б0га вмэни1ша.

And this was an occasion to deceive the world: for men, serving either calamity or tyranny, did ascribe unto stones and stocks the incommunicable name. И# сіE бhсть житію2 въ прельщeніе, ћкw и3ли2 ѕлоключeнію, и3ли2 мучи1телству послужи1вше человёцы, несоo1бщно и4мz кaменію и3 древaмъ њбложи1ша.

Howbeit for both causes shall they be justly punished: both because they thought not well of God, giving heed unto idols, and also unjustly swore in deceit, despising holiness. For the potter, tempering soft earth, fashioneth every vessel with much labour for our service: yea, of the same clay he maketh both the vessels that serve for clean uses, and likewise also all such as serve to the contrary: but what is the use of either sort, the potter himself is the judge. And employing his labours lewdly, he maketh a vain god of the same clay, even he which a little before was made of earth himself, and within a little while after returneth to the same, out of the which he was taken, when his life which was lent him shall be demanded. И# ѕлотрyдникъ б0га сyетна t тогHжде твори1тъ брeніz, и4же мaлw прeжде t земли2 сотворeнъ бhвъ, по мaлэ и4детъ, и3з8 неsже взsтъ бhсть, и3стsзанъ њ душeвнэмъ долзЁ.

Notwithstanding his care is, not that he shall have much labour, nor that his life is short: but striveth to excel goldsmiths and silversmiths, and endeavoureth to do like the workers in brass, and counteth it his glory to make counterfeit things. Но є4сть є3мY прилэжaніе, не ћкw и4мать труди1тисz, нижE ћкw краткоконeчно житіE и4мать: но ревнyетъ златодёлателємъ и3 среброліsтелємъ, и3 мёди дёлателємъ подражaетъ, и3 слaву мни1тъ, ћкw сквє1рнаz дёлаетъ.

But they were troubled for a small season, that they might be admonished, having a sign of salvation, to put them in remembrance of the commandment of thy law. но не до концA пребhсть гнёвъ тв0й: въ наказaніе же вмaлэ смущeни бhша, знaменіе и3мёюще спасeніz, на воспоминaніе зaповэди зак0на твоегw2:

for them the bitings of grasshoppers and flies killed, neither was there found any remedy for their life: for they were worthy to be punished by such. тёхъ бо ґкр‡ды и3 м{хи поби1ша ўгрызeніемъ, и3 не њбрётесz цэльбA душaмъ и4хъ, ћкw дост0йни бsху t таковhхъ мyчитисz.

But thy sons not the very teeth of venomous dragons overcame: for thy mercy was by them, and healed them. СынHвъ же твои1хъ нижE kдови1тыхъ ѕміє1въ зyбы њдолёша: млcть бо твоS прихождaше и3 и3зцэлsше и5хъ.

For they were pricked, that they should remember thy words; and were quickly saved, that not falling into deep forgetfulness, they might be continually mindful of thy goodness. For thou hast power of life and death: thou leadest to the gates of hell, and bringest up again. Тh бо животA и3 смeрти влaсть и4маши, и3 низв0диши дaже до врaтъ ѓда, и3 возв0диши.

For the ungodly, that denied to know thee, were scourged by the strength of thine arm: with strange rains, hails, and showers, were they persecuted, that they could not avoid, and through fire were they consumed. tметaющіисz бо тебE вёдэти нечести1віи, въ крёпости мhшцы твоеS біeни бhша стрaнными дождьми2 и3 грaдами, и3 бyрzми гони1ми неизбёжнw, и3 nгнeмъ растаевaеми.

For, which is most to be wondered at, the fire had more force in the water, that quencheth all things: for the world fighteth for the righteous. Преслaвное бо, въ водЁ вс‰ ўгашaющей мн0жае дёйствоваше џгнь: споб0рникъ бо є4сть мjръ њ прaведныхъ.

For sometime the flame was mitigated, that it might not burn up the beasts that were sent against the ungodly; but themselves might see and perceive that they were persecuted with the judgment of God. Instead whereof thou feddest thine own people with angels' food, and didst send them from heaven bread prepared without their labour, able to content every man's delight, and agreeing to every taste. But snow and ice endured the fire, and melted not, that they might know that fire burning in the hail, and sparkling in the rain, did destroy the fruits of the enemies. Снёгъ же и3 лeдъ терпsху џгнь и3 не растаzвaху: да ўвёдzтъ, ћкw плоды2 врагHвъ и3стреблsше џгнь горsщь во грaдэ и3 въ дождeхъ блистaющь:

For the creature that serveth thee, who art the Maker, increaseth his strength against the unrighteous for their punishment, and abateth his strength for the benefit of such as put their trust in thee. For when unrighteous men thought to oppress the holy nation; they being shut up in their houses, the prisoners of darkness, and fettered with the bonds of a long night, lay there exiled from the eternal providence. For while they supposed to lie hid in their secret sins, they were scattered under a dark veil of forgetfulness, being horribly astonished, and troubled with strange apparitions. Only there appeared unto them a fire kindled of itself, very dreadful: for being much terrified, they thought the things which they saw to be worse than the sight they saw not. For though no terrible thing did fear them; yet being scared with beasts that passed by, and hissing of serpents, И$бо ѓще и3 ничт0же и5хъ мzтeжное ўстрашaше, ѕвэрeй прех0дами и3 ѕміє1въ звиздaньми подви1жени погибaху трeпетни, и3 ѓера tню1дъ неизбёжнагw tрицaющесz ви1дэти.

For wickedness, condemned by her own witness, is very timorous, and being pressed with conscience, always forecasteth grievous things. Ничт0же бо є4сть стрaхъ, т0кмw лишeніе п0мощей сyщихъ t помышлeніz.

or a terrible sound of stones cast down, or a running that could not be seen of skipping beasts, or a roaring voice of most savage wild beasts, or a rebounding echo from the hollow mountains: these things made them to swoon for fear. over them only was spread a heavy night, an image of that darkness which should afterward receive them: but yet were they unto themselves more grievous than the darkness.

Nevertheless thy saints had a very great light, whose voice they hearing, and not seeing their shape, because they also had not suffered the same things, they counted them happy. For they were worthy to be deprived of light, and imprisoned in darkness, who had kept thy sons shut up, by whom the uncorrupt light of the law was to be given unto the world. And when they had determined to slay the babes of the saints, one child being cast forth, and saved, to reprove them, thou tookest away the multitude of their children, and destroyedst them all together in a mighty water. For wherewith thou didst punish our adversaries, by the same thou didst glorify us, whom thou hadst called. и4мже бо наказaлъ є3си2 супостaты нaшz, си1мъ нaсъ призвaвъ прослaвилъ є3си2.

For the righteous children of good men did sacrifice secretly, and with one consent made a holy law, that the saints should be like partakers of the same good and evil, the fathers now singing out the songs of praise. Сокровeннw бо жрsху препод0бніи џтроцы благи1хъ, и3 зак0нъ бжcтвенный є3диномhсліемъ завэщaша, т†zжде под0бнw, благ†z же и3 бёдствєннаz воспріимaти с™ы6мъ, nтцє1мъ ўжE предвоспэвaющымъ хвалY.

But on the other side there sounded an ill according cry of the enemies, and a lamentable noise was carried abroad for children that were bewailed. Противогласsше же несоглaсный врагHвъ в0пль, и3 плачeвный слhшашесz глaсъ плaчущихъ младeнцєвъ.

The master and the servant were punished after one manner; and like as the king, so suffered the common person. Под0бною же мeстію рaбъ кyпнw съ господи1номъ казнeнъ бhсть, и3 простhй человёкъ съ царeмъ т†zжде пострадA:

So they all together had innumerable dead with one kind of death; neither were the living sufficient to bury them: for in one moment the noblest offspring of them was destroyed. є3динодyшнw же вси2 во є3ди1нэмъ и4мени смeртнэмъ мeртвыхъ и3мёzху безчи1сленныхъ: нижe бо ко погребeнію живjи бsху дов0лни, понeже во є3ди1нэмъ мгновeніи честнёйшій р0дъ и4хъ и3стреблeнъ бhсть.

For whereas they would not believe any thing by reason of the enchantments; upon the destruction of the firstborn, they acknowledged this people to be the sons of God. Њ всёхъ бо не вёрующе рaди чародэsній, ґ рaди пeрвенцєвъ и3стреблeніz, и3сповёдаша людjй сынHвъ б9іихъ бhти.

thine Almighty word leaped from heaven out of thy royal throne, as a fierce man of war into the midst of a land of destruction, всемогyщее сл0во твоE, (гDи,) съ нб7съ t пrт0лwвъ цrкихъ жeстокъ рaтникъ въ среди1ну поги1бельныz земли2 сни1де.

and brought thine unfeigned commandment as a sharp sword, and standing up filled all things with death; and it touched the heaven, but it stood upon the earth. Мeчь џстръ нелицемёрное повелёніе твоE носsй, и3 стaвъ и3сп0лни вс‰ смeрти: и3 небесE ќбw касaшесz, стоsше же на земли2.

Then suddenly visions of horrible dreams troubled them sore, and terrors came upon them unlooked for. ТогдA внезaпу привидBніz ќбw снHвъ лю1тэ смути1ша и5хъ, стрaси же наид0ша нечazнни,

For the dreams that troubled them did foreshew this, lest they should perish, and not know why they were afflicted. сHніz бо, смути1вше и5хъ, сіE предвозвэсти1ша: да не вёдzще, є3гHже рaди ѕлЁ стрaждутъ, поги1бнутъ.

Yea, the tasting of death touched the righteous also, and there was a destruction of the multitude in the wilderness: but the wrath endured not long. Прикоснyсz же нёкогда и3 прaведныхъ и3скушeніе смeрти, поражeніе во пустhни бhсть мн0жества: но не д0лгw пребhсть гнёвъ.

For then the blameless man made haste, and stood forth to defend them; and bringing the shield of his proper ministry, even prayer, and the propitiation of incense, set himself against the wrath, and so brought the calamity to an end, declaring that he was thy servant. So he overcame the destroyer, not with might of body, nor force of arms, but with a word subdued him that punished, alleging the oaths and covenants made with the fathers. For they were yet mindful of the things that were done while they sojourned in the strange land, how the ground brought forth flies instead of cattle, and how the river cast up a multitude of frogs instead of fishes. воспомzнyша бо є3щE, ±же во њбитaніи и4хъ, кaкw ќбw вмёстw рождeніz жив0тныхъ и3зведE землS скн‡пы, вмёстw же рhбъ и3зрhгну рэкA мн0жество жaбъ.

And not only so, but peradventure some respect shall be had of those, because they used strangers not friendly: Сjи же съ прaзднествами пріeмше приwбщи1вшихсz ўжE и4хъ њбhчаємъ, жесточaйшими њѕл0биша трудaми.

Therefore even with blindness were these stricken, as those were at the doors of the righteous man: when, being compassed about with horrible great darkness, every one sought the passage of his own doors.
