Chapter 12
Главa в7i
1
1
Now when Jonathan saw that the time served him, he chose certain men, and sent them to Rome, for to confirm and renew the friendship that they had with them. И# ви1дэ їwнаfaнъ ћкw врeмz є3мY споспэшествyетъ, и3 и3збрA мyжы и3 послA и5хъ въ ри1мъ состaвити и3 њбнови1ти съ ни1ми дрyжбу,
2
2
He sent letters also to the Lacedemonians, and to other places, for the same purpose.
3
3
So they went unto Rome, and entered into the senate, and said, Jonathan the high priest, and the people of the Jews, sent us unto you, to the end ye should renew the friendship, which ye had with them, and league, as in former time. И# и3д0ша въ ри1мъ и3 внид0ша въ совётный д0мъ и3 рек0ша: їwнаfaнъ ґрхіерeй и3 kзhкъ їудeйскій послaша нaсъ њбнови1ти дрyжбу съ вaми и3 споборeніе по прeжнему.
4
4
Upon this the Romans gave them letters unto the governors of every place, that they should bring them into the land of Judea peaceably.
5
5
And this is the copy of the letters which Jonathan wrote to the Lacedemonians: И# сіE списaніе є3піст0лій, и5хже писA їwнаfaнъ ко спартіaтwмъ:
6
6
Jonathan the high priest, and the elders of the nation, and the priests, and the other people of the Jews, unto the Lacedemonians their brethren send greeting: їwнаfaнъ ґрхіерeй и3 старBйшины людjй, и3 жерцы2 и3 пр0чіи лю1діе їудeйстіи, спартіaтwмъ брaтіи рaдоватисz:
7
7
There were letters sent in times past unto Onias the high priest from Darius, who reigned then among you, to signify that ye are our brethren, as the copy here underwritten doth specify. є3щE прeжде пHсланы бsху є3пістHліи ко nнjи ґрхіерeю t дaріа цaрствовавшагw въ вaсъ, ћкw є3стE брaтіz н†ша, ћкоже списaніе содержи1тъ:
8
8
At which time Onias entreated the ambassador that was sent honourably, and received the letters, wherein declaration was made of the league and friendship.
9
9
Therefore we also, albeit we need none of these things, for that we have the holy books of scripture in our hands to comfort us, и3 мы2 u5бо не трeбующе си1хъ, ўтэшeніе и3мyще с™ы6z кни6ги, ±же въ рукaхъ нaшихъ,
10
10
have nevertheless attempted to send unto you for the renewing of brotherhood and friendship, lest we should become strangers unto you altogether: for there is a long time passed since ye sent unto us. покуси1хомсz послaти къ вaмъ њбнови1ти брaтство и3 дрyжбу, є4же бы не tчужди1тисz вaсъ: мнHга бо временA проид0ша, tнeлэже послaсте къ нaмъ:
11
11
We therefore at all times without ceasing, both in our feasts, and other convenient days, do remember you in the sacrifices which we offer, and in our prayers, as reason is, and as it becometh us to think upon our brethren: мы2 u5бо во всsко врeмz непрестaннw и3 въ прaздники и3 въ пр0чихъ подобaющихъ днeхъ воспоминaемъ вaсъ въ жeртвахъ, ±же прин0симъ, и3 въ моли1твахъ, ћкоже подобaетъ и3 лёпо є4сть воспоминaти брaтію:
12
12
and we are right glad of your honour.
13
13
As for ourselves, we have had great troubles and wars on every side, forsomuch as the kings that are round about us have fought against us. нaсъ же њбыд0ша мнHги скHрби и3 мнHги бр†ни, и3 рaтоваша нaсъ цaріе, и5же w4крестъ нaсъ:
14
14
Howbeit we would not be troublesome unto you, nor to others of our confederates and friends, in these wars: не хотёхомъ u5бо стужaти вaмъ и3 прHчіимъ споб0рникwмъ и3 другHмъ нaшымъ во брaнехъ си1хъ,
15
15
for we have help from heaven that succoureth us, so as we are delivered from our enemies, and our enemies are brought under foot. и3мёемъ бо съ нб7сE п0мощь помогaющую нaмъ, и3 и3збaвихомсz t вр†гъ нaшихъ, и3 смири1шасz врази2 нaши:
16
16
For this cause we chose Numenius the son of Antiochus, and Antipater the son of Jason, and sent them unto the Romans, to renew the amity that we had with them, and the former league. и3збрaхомъ u5бо нуми1ніа ґнті0хова сhна и3 ґнтіпaтра їасHнова, и3 послaхомъ къ ри1млzнwмъ њбнови1ти съ ни1ми дрyжбу и3 споборeніе прeжнее:
17
17
We commanded them also to go unto you, and to salute you, and to deliver you our letters concerning the renewing of our brotherhood. заповёдахомъ u5бо и5мъ и3 къ вaмъ поити2 и3 поздрaвити вaсъ, и3 дaти вaмъ t нaсъ пwслaніz њ њбновлeніи и3 њ брaтствэ нaшемъ:
18
18
Wherefore now ye shall do well to give us an answer thereto.
19
19
And this is the copy of the letters which Oniares sent. И# сіE списaніе послaній, и5хже послA nнjи:
20
20
Areus king of the Lacedemonians to Onias the high priest, greeting: дaрій цaрь спартіaтwвъ nнjи свzщeннику вели1кому рaдоватисz:
21
21
It is found in writing, that the Lacedemonians and Jews are brethren, and that they are of the stock of Abraham: њбрётесz въ писaніихъ њ спартіaтэхъ и3 їудeехъ, ћкw сyть брaтіz и3 ћкw сyть t р0да ґвраaмлz:
22
22
now therefore, since this is come to our knowledge, ye shall do well to write unto us of your prosperity. и3 нн7э, tнeлэже сі‰ познaхомъ, д0брэ сотворитE пи1шуще нaмъ њ ми1рэ вaшемъ:
23
23
We do write back again to you, that your cattle and goods are our's, and our's are your's. We do command therefore our ambassadors to make report unto you on this wise. и3 мh же восписaхомъ вaмъ: ск0ти вaши и3 и3мёніе вaше н†ша сyть, и3 ±же н†ша в†ша сyть: повелёхомъ u5бо, да возвэстsтъ вaмъ сі‰.
24
24
Now when Jonathan heard that Demetrius' princes were come to fight against him with a greater host than afore, И# слhша їwнаfaнъ, ћкw возврати1шасz нач†лницы дими1трієвы съ си1лою мн0гою, пaче нeже прeжде, рaтовати нaнь,
25
25
he removed from Jerusalem, and met them in the land of Amathis: for he gave them no respite to enter his country.
26
26
He sent spies also unto their tents, who came again, and told him that they were appointed to come upon them in the night season. и3 послA созирaтєли въ п0лкъ и4хъ: и3 возврати1шасz и3 возвэсти1ша є3мY, ћкw си1це ўстроsютсz напaсти на нS н0щію.
27
27
Wherefore so soon as the sun was down, Jonathan commanded his men to watch, and to be in arms, that all the night long they might be ready to fight: also he sent forth centinels round about the host. Е#гдa же зaйде с0лнце, заповёда їwнаfaнъ свои6мъ бдёти и3 бhти во nрyжіи и3 гот0витисz на брaнь всю2 н0щь, и3 постaви стрaжы w4крестъ полкA.
28
28
But when the adversaries heard that Jonathan and his men were ready for battle, they feared, and trembled in their hearts, and they kindled fires in their camp.
29
29
Howbeit Jonathan and his company knew it not till the morning: for they saw the lights burning.
30
30
Then Jonathan pursued after them, but overtook them not: for they were gone over the river Eleutherus.
31
31
Wherefore Jonathan turned to the Arabians, who were called Zabadeans, and smote them, and took their spoils. И# њбрати1сz їwнаfaнъ на ґрaвы, и5же нарицaхусz заведeє, и3 порази2 и5хъ, и3 взS кwрhсти и4хъ.
32
32
And removing thence, he came to Damascus, and so passed through all the country. И# востaвъ и4де въ дамaскъ и3 прохождaше всю2 странY тY.
33
33
Simon also went forth, and passed through the country unto Ascalon, and the holds there adjoining, from whence he turned aside to Joppe, and won it.
34
34
For he had heard that they would deliver the hold unto them that took Demetrius' part: wherefore he set a garrison there to keep it. Слhша бо, ћкw совэщaшасz твердhню предaти странЁ дими1тріевэ, и3 постaви тaмw стрaжу, да стрегyтъ ю5.
35
35
After this came Jonathan home again, and calling the elders of the people together, he consulted with them about building strong holds in Judea, И# возврати1сz їwнаfaнъ, и3 собрA старBйшины людск‡z, и3 совэщaсz съ ни1ми созидaти тверды6ни во їудeи
36
36
and making the walls of Jerusalem higher, and raising a great mount between the tower and the city, for to separate it from the city, that so it might be alone, that men might neither sell nor buy in it. и3 возвhсити стёны їеrли6мскіz и3 воздви1гнути высотY вeлію междY краегрaдіемъ и3 грaдомъ, є4же бы tлучи1ти џное t грaда, да бyдетъ сіE на ўединeніи, ћкw да ни купyютъ, нижE продаю1тъ.
37
37
Upon this they came together to build up the city, forasmuch as part of the wall toward the brook on the east side was fallen down, and they repaired that which was called Caphenatha. И# собрaшасz созидaти грaдъ, падe бо стэнA пот0ка, ћже t вост0ка, и3 ўгот0ваша нарицaемое хафенаfA.
38
38
Simon also set up Adida in Sephela, and made it strong with gates and bars. И# сjмwнъ создA ґдідY въ сефи1лэ и3 ўтверди2 вратA и3 завHры.
39
39
Now Tryphon went about to get the kingdom of Asia, and to kill Antiochus the king, that he might set the crown upon his own head.
40
40
Howbeit he was afraid that Jonathan would not suffer him, and that he would fight against him; wherefore he sought a way how to take Jonathan, that he might kill him. So he removed, and came to Bethsan. и3 ўбоsсz, да не когдA не попyститъ є3мY їwнаfaнъ и3 рaтовати бyдетъ на него2, и3 взыскA пути2, є4же ћти їwнаfaна и3 ўби1ти є3го2: и3 востaвъ пріи1де въ веfсaнъ.
41
41
Then Jonathan went out to meet him with forty thousand men chosen for the battle, and came to Bethsan.
42
42
Now when Tryphon saw that Jonathan came with so great a force, he durst not stretch his hand against him; И# ви1дэ трЂфwнъ, ћкw пріи1де їwнаfaнъ съ вHи мн0гими, и3 прострeти нaнь рyку ўбоsсz:
43
43
but received him honourably, and commended him unto all his friends, and gave him gifts, and commanded his men of war to be as obedient unto him, as to himself.
44
44
Unto Jonathan also he said, Why hast thou put all this people to so great trouble, seeing there is no war betwixt us? И# речE їwнаfaну: вскyю ўтруди1лъ є3си2 вс‰ лю1ди сі‰, брaни не настоsщей нaмъ;
45
45
Therefore send them now home again, and choose a few men to wait on thee, and come thou with me to Ptolemais, for I will give it thee, and the rest of the strong holds and forces, and all that have any charge: as for me, I will return and depart: for this is the cause of my coming. и3 нн7э tпусти2 и5хъ въ д0мы сво‰, и3збери1 же себЁ мужeй мaлw, и5же бyдутъ съ тоб0ю, и3 пріиди2 со мн0ю во птолемаjду, и3 предaмъ тебЁ ю5 и3 пр0чыz твєрдhни и3 си6лы пр0чыz, и3 всёхъ и5же над8 потрeбами, и3 возврaщьсz tидY: сегH бо рaди пріид0хъ.
46
46
So Jonathan believing him did as he bade him, and sent away his host, who went into the land of Judea.
47
47
And with himself he retained but three thousand men, of whom he sent two thousand into Galilee, and one thousand went with him.
48
48
Now as soon as Jonathan entered into Ptolemais, they of Ptolemais shut the gates, and took him, and all them that came with him they slew with the sword.
49
49
Then sent Tryphon an host of footmen and horsemen into Galilee, and into the great plain, to destroy all Jonathan's company.
50
50
But when they knew that Jonathan and they that were with him were taken and slain, they encouraged one another, and went close together, prepared to fight. И# познaша, ћкw ћтъ бhсть їwнаfaнъ и3 ўбіeнъ и3 вси2 и5же съ ни1мъ, и3 ўвэщaша сaми себE и3 и3д0ша ўгот0вани на брaнь.
51
51
They therefore that followed upon them, perceiving that they were ready to fight for their lives, turned back again.
52
52
Whereupon they all came into the land of Judea peaceably, and there they bewailed Jonathan, and them that were with him, and they were sore afraid; wherefore all Israel made great lamentation. И# пріид0ша вси2 съ ми1ромъ въ зeмлю їyдину, и3 плaкашасz їwнаfaна и3 сyщихъ съ ни1мъ, и3 ўбоsшасz ѕэлw2, и3 плaкаше вeсь ї}ль плaчемъ вeліимъ.
53
53
Then all the heathen that were round about them sought to destroy them: for said they, They have no captain, nor any to help them: now therefore let us make war upon them, and take away their memorial from among men.
