| But when Arsaces, the king of Persia and Media, heard that Demetrius was entered within his borders, he sent one of his princes to take him alive: | И# слhша ґрсaкъ цaрь пeрсскій и3 ми1дскій, ћкw пріи1де дими1трій въ предёлы є3гw2, и3 послA є3ди1наго t нач†лникъ свои1хъ ћти є3го2 жи1ва. |

| who went and smote the host of Demetrius, and took him, and brought him to Arsaces, by whom he was put in ward. | И# и4де и3 порази2 њполчeніе дими1тріево, и3 ћтъ є3го2 и3 приведE є3го2 ко ґрсaку: и3 всади2 є3го2 въ темни1цу. |

| As for the land of Judea, that was quiet all the days of Simon; for he sought the good of his nation in such wise, as that evermore his authority and honour pleased them well. | И# ўмолчA землS їyдина во вс‰ дни6 сjмwнwвы, и3 взыскA благ†z kзhку своемY, и3 ўг0дна бhсть и5мъ влaсть є3гw2 и3 слaва є3гw2 во вс‰ дни6. |

| And as he was honourable in all his acts, so in this, that he took Joppe for an haven, and made an entrance to the isles of the sea, | И# со всeю слaвою своeю взS їoппjю въ пристaнище и3 сотвори2 вх0дъ nстровHмъ мwрски1мъ, |

| and enlarged the bounds of his nation, and recovered the country, | и3 распрострE предёлы kзhку своемY, и3 њдержA странY, |

| and gathered together a great number of captives, and had the dominion of Gazara, and Bethsura, and the tower, out of the which he took all uncleanness, neither was there any that resisted him. | и3 собрA плэнeніе мн0го, и3 госп0дствова над8 газ†ры и3 веfс{ры и3 краегрaдіемъ, и3 tsтъ нечистwты2 t негw2, и3 не бhсть противлsющагwсz є3мY. |

| Then did they till their ground in peace, and the earth gave her increase, and the trees of the field their fruit. | И# кjйждо дёлаше зeмлю свою2 съ ми1ромъ, и3 землS даsше жи6та сво‰, и3 древесA пwльскaz пл0дъ св0й. |

| The ancient men sat all in the streets, communing together of good things, and the young men put on glorious and warlike apparel. | СтарBйшины на ст0гнахъ сэдsху и3 вси2 њ благи1хъ бесёдоваху, и3 ю4нwши њблачaхусz слaвою и3 ри1зами рaтными. |

| He provided victuals for the cities, and set in them all manner of munition, so that his honourable name was renowned unto the end of the world. | ГрадHмъ даsше пи1щы и3 вчинsше и5хъ въ сосyды ўтверждeніz, донeлэже и3меновaсz и4мz слaвы є3гw2 дaже до крaz земли2. |

| He made peace in the land, and Israel rejoiced with great joy: | Сотвори2 ми1ръ на земли2, и3 возвесели1сz ї}ль весeліемъ вeліимъ. |

| for every man sat under his vine and his fig tree, and there was none to fray them: | И# сёде кjйждо под8 віногрaдомъ свои1мъ и3 смок0вницею своeю, и3 не бhсть ўстрашaющагw и5хъ. |

| neither was there any left in the land to fight against them: yea, the kings themselves were overthrown in those days. | И# њскудЁ рaтуzй и5хъ на земли2, и3 цaріе сотр0шасz во дни6 w4ны. |

| Moreover he strengthened all those of his people that were brought low: the law he searched out; and every contemner of the law and wicked person he took away. | И# ўкрэпи2 всёхъ смирeнныхъ людjй свои1хъ: зак0на взыскA и3 tsтъ всsко беззак0ніе и3 лукaвство, |

| He beautified the sanctuary, and multiplied the vessels of the temple. | с™†z прослaви и3 ўмн0жи сосyды с™hхъ. |

| Now when it was heard at Rome, and as far as Sparta, that Jonathan was dead, they were very sorry. | И# слhшано бЁ въ ри1мэ, ћкw ќмре їwнаfaнъ, и3 дaже до спaртіи слhшасz, и3 њскорби1шасz ѕэлw2. |

| But as soon as they heard that his brother Simon was made high priest in his stead, and ruled the country, and the cities therein: | Е#гдa же ўслhшаша, ћкw сjмwнъ брaтъ є3гw2 бhсть вмёстw є3гw2 ґрхіерeй и3 њдержA всю2 странY и3 грaды въ нeй, |

| they wrote unto him in tables of brass, to renew the friendship and league which they had made with Judas and Jonathan his brethren: | писaша къ немY на дщи1цахъ мёдzныхъ, є4же њбнови1ти съ ни1мъ дрyжбу и3 споборeніе, ±же сотвори1ша со їyдою и3 їwнаfaномъ брaтіею є3гw2. |

| which writings were read before the congregation at Jerusalem. | И# прочт0шасz пред8 цRковію во їеrли1мэ. |

| And this is the copy of the letters that the Lacedemonians sent; The rulers of the Lacedemonians, with the city, unto Simon the high priest, and the elders, and priests, and residue of the people of the Jews, our brethren, send greeting: | И# сeй w4бразъ послaній, и5хже послaша спартіaты: спартіaтwвъ нач†лницы и3 грaдъ сjмwну їерeю вели1кому и3 старёйшинамъ, и3 жерцє1мъ и3 пр0чымъ лю1демъ їудє1йскимъ брaтіи рaдоватисz: |

| The ambassadors that were sent unto our people certified us of your glory and honour: wherefore we were glad of their coming, | послы2, и5же п0слани сyть къ лю1демъ нaшымъ, возвэсти1ша нaмъ њ вaшей слaвэ и3 чeсти, и3 возвесели1хомсz њ прих0дэ и4хъ, |

| and did register the things that they spake in the council of the people in this manner; Numenius son of Antiochus, and Antipater son of Jason, the Jews' ambassadors, came unto us, to renew the friendship they had with us. | и3 списaхомъ ±же t ни1хъ речє1на въ совётэхъ людjй си1це: нуми1ній сhнъ ґнті0ховъ и3 ґнтіпaтръ їасHновъ, послы2 їудeйстіи, пріид0ста къ нaмъ возновл‰юща съ нaми дрyжбу: |

| And it pleased the people to entertain the men honourably, and to put the copy of their ambassage in public records, to the end the people of the Lacedemonians might have a memorial thereof: furthermore we have written a copy thereof unto Simon the high priest. | и3 ўг0дно бhсть лю1демъ пріsти мyжы слaвнw и3 положи1ти восписaніе словeсъ и4хъ во њсHбыz людск‡z кни6ги, да бyдетъ пaмzть лю1демъ спартіaтwвъ: w4бразъ же тёхъ писaхомъ сjмwну ґрхіерeю. |

| After this Simon sent Numenius to Rome with a great shield of gold of a thousand pound weight, to confirm the league with them. | По си1хъ послA сjмwнъ нуми1ніа въ ри1мъ, и3мyщаго щи1тъ злaтъ вели1къ вёсомъ мн†съ тhсzща на ўставлeніе съ ни1ми дрyжбы. |

| Whereof when the people heard, they said, What thanks shall we give to Simon and his sons? | Е#гдa же ўслhшаша лю1діе словесA сі‰, рёша: кyю благодaть воздади1мъ сjмwну и3 сынHмъ є3гw2; |

| For he and his brethren and the house of his father have established Israel, and chased away in fight their enemies from them, and confirmed their liberty. | ўтверди1 бо сaмъ и3 брaтіz є3гw2 и3 д0мъ nтцA є3гw2, и3 поби2 враги2 ї}лєвы t ни1хъ, и3 ўстaвиша є3мY своб0ду. |

| So then they wrote it in tables of brass, which they set upon pillars in mount Sion: and this is the copy of the writing; The eighteenth day of the month Elul, in the hundred threescore and twelfth year, being the third year of Simon the high priest, | И# написaша на дскaхъ мёдzныхъ и3 постaвиша на столпЁ въ горЁ сіHнэ. и3 сeй є4сть w4бразъ писaніz: во nсмыйнaдесzть дeнь мцcа є3лyлъ, лёта сто2 сeдмьдесzтъ вторaгw, и3 сіE трeтіе лёто при сjмwнэ ґрхіерeи, въ сарамeли, |

| at Saramel in the great congregation of the priests, and people, and rulers of the nation, and elders of the country, were these things notified unto us. | въ собрaніи вели1цэмъ жерцє1въ и3 людjй, и3 кнzзeй kзhка и3 старёйшинъ страны2 возвэсти1сz нaмъ: понeже мн0гащи бhша бр†ни въ странЁ, |

| Forasmuch as oftentimes there have been wars in the country, wherein for the maintenance of their sanctuary, and the law, Simon the son of Mattathias, of the posterity of Jarib, together with his brethren, put themselves in jeopardy, and resisting the enemies of their nation did their nation great honour: | сjмwнъ же сhнъ маттаfjевъ, сhнъ сынHвъ їарjвовыхъ, и3 брaтіz є3гw2 вдaша себE въ бёдство, и3 противостaша сопостaтwмъ kзhка своегw2, ћкw да стоsтъ с™†z и4хъ и3 зак0нъ, и3 слaвою вели1кою прослaвиша лю1ди сво‰: |

| (For after that Jonathan, having gathered his nation together, and been their high priest, was added to his people, | и3 собрA їwнаfaнъ лю1ди сво‰, и3 бhсть и5мъ ґрхіерeй, и3 приложи1сz къ лю1демъ свои6мъ: |

| their enemies purposed to invade their country, that they might destroy it, and lay hands on the sanctuary: | и3 хотёша врази2 и4хъ вни1ти въ странY и4хъ, є4же сокруши1ти странY и4хъ и3 простeрти рyку на с™†z и4хъ, |

| at which time Simon rose up, and fought for his nation, and spent much of his own substance, and armed the valiant men of his nation, and gave them wages, | тогдA востA сjмwнъ и3 брaсz за лю1ди сво‰, и3 раздA срeбреникwвъ мн0гw свои6мъ, и3 воwружи2 мyжы си6льныz kзhка своегw2, и3 дадE и5мъ њбр0ки, |

| and fortified the cities of Judea, together with Bethsura, that lieth upon the borders of Judea, where the armour of the enemies had been before; but he set a garrison of Jews there: | и3 ўтверди2 грaды їудє1йскіz и3 веfсyру, ћже въ предёлэхъ їудeйскихъ, и3дёже бsху nр{жіz брaнникwвъ прeжде, и3 постaви тaмw на стрaжу мyжы їудє1йскіz: |

| moreover he fortified Joppe, which lieth upon the sea, and Gazara, that bordereth upon Azotus, where the enemies had dwelt before: but he placed Jews there, and furnished them with all things convenient for the reparation thereof.) | и3 їoппjю ўтверди2, ћже на прим0ріи, и3 газaру, ћже въ предёлэхъ ґзHта, въ нeйже врази2 прeжде њбитaху, и3 насели2 тaмw їудє1и, и3 є3ли6ка потрє1бна бsху на ўправлeніе си1хъ, положи2 въ ни1хъ: |

| The people therefore, seeing the acts of Simon, and unto what glory he thought to bring his nation, made him their governor and chief priest, because he had done all these things, and for the justice and faith which he kept to his nation, and for that he sought by all means to exalt his people. | и3 ви1дэша лю1діе дёйство сjмwново и3 слaву, ю4же ўмhсли сотвори1ти kзhку своемY, и3 постaвиша є3го2 въ вождA своего2 и3 ґрхіерeа, занeже сотвори2 сі‰ вс‰, и3 прaвду и3 вёру, ю4же соблюдE kзhку своемY, и3 взыскA всsкимъ w4бразомъ вознести2 лю1ди сво‰: |

| For in his time things prospered in his hands, so that the heathen were taken out of their country, and they also that were in the city of David in Jerusalem, who had made themselves a tower, out of which they issued, and polluted all about the sanctuary, and did much hurt in the holy place: | и3 во дни6 є3гw2 благоуспэвaше въ рукY є3гw2, є4же и3з8sти kзhки t страны2 и4хъ, и3 и5же во грaдэ давjдовэ бёху во їеrли1мэ, и5же сотвори1ша себЁ краегрaдіе, и3з8 негHже и3схождaху и3 сквернsху w4крестъ с™hхъ и3 творsху ћзву вeлію въ чистотЁ, |

| but he placed Jews therein, and fortified it for the safety of the country and the city, and raised up the walls of Jerusalem. | и3 насели2 въ нeмъ мyжы їудє1йски и3 ўтверди2 ко ўкрэплeнію страны2 и3 грaда и3 возвhси стёны во їеrли1мэ: |

| King Demetrius also confirmed him in the high priesthood according to those things, | и3 цaрь дими1трій ўстaви є3мY начaлство жрeчества, |

| and made him one of his friends, and honoured him with great honour. | по си6мъ сотвори2 є3го2 дрyга своего2 и3 прослaви є3го2 слaвою вели1кою: |

| For he had heard say, that the Romans had called the Jews their friends and confederates and brethren; and that they had entertained the ambassadors of Simon honourably: | слhша бо, ћкw нарэчeни сyть їудeє t ри1млzнъ дрyзи и3 спобHрницы и3 брaтіz, и3 ћкw пріsша послHвъ сjмwновыхъ преслaвнw: |

| also that the Jews and priests were well pleased that Simon should be their governor and high priest for ever, until there should arise a faithful prophet; | и3 ћкw благоволи1ша їудeє и3 жерцы2 бhти сjмwну вожд0мъ и3 ґрхіерeемъ въ вёкъ, д0ндеже востaнетъ прbр0къ вёренъ: |

| moreover that he should be their captain, and should take charge of the sanctuary, to set them over their works, and over the country, and over the armour, and over the fortresses, that, I say, he should take charge of the sanctuary; | и3 да бyдетъ над8 ни1ми воев0да, и3 ћкw да радёетъ њ с™hхъ поставлsти и5хъ над8 дэлaми и4хъ и3 над8 стран0ю, и3 над8 nрyжіемъ и3 над8 твердhнzми, |

| beside this, that he should be obeyed of every man, and that all the writings in the country should be made in his name, and that he should be clothed in purple, and wear gold: | и3 ћкw да радёетъ њ с™hхъ, и3 да слyшаютъ є3гw2вси2, и3 да пи1шутсz на и4мz є3гw2 вс‰ пис†ніz во странЁ,и3 да њблачи1тсz въ порфЂру и3 златyю ри1зу, |

| Also that it should be lawful for none of the people or priests to break any of these things, or to gainsay his words, or to gather an assembly in the country without him, or to be clothed in purple, or wear a buckle of gold: | и3 не лёть бyдетъ ни комyже t людjй и3 t жрє1цъ tврещи2 что2 t си1хъ и3 вопреки2 глаг0лати t негw2 речє1нымъ, и3ли2 совокупи1ти с0нмъ во странЁ без8 негw2 и3 њблещи1сz въ порфЂру и3 носи1ти гри1вну злaту: |

| and whosoever should do otherwise, or break any of these things, he should be punished. | ґ и4же ѓще сотвори1тъ кромЁ си1хъ, и3ли2 tвeржетъ что2 си1хъ, пови1ненъ бyдетъ. |

| Thus it liked all the people to deal with Simon, and to do as hath been said. | И# ўг0дно бhсть всBмъ лю1демъ ўстaвити сjмwну и3 сотвори1ти по словесє1мъ си6мъ. |

| Then Simon accepted hereof, and was well pleased to be high priest, and captain and governor of the Jews and priests, and to defend them all. | И# пріS сjмwнъ, и3 благоволи2 ґрхіерeйствовати, и3 бhти воев0дою и3 начaлникомъ kзhка їудeйска и3 жерцeмъ, и3 начaлствовати над8 всёми. |

| So they commanded that this writing should be put in tables of brass, and that they should be set up within the compass of the sanctuary in a conspicuous place; | И# писaніе сіE рёша водрузи1ти во дщи1цахъ мёдzныхъ и3 постaвити и5хъ въ притв0рэ с™hхъ, въ мёстэ слaвнэ, |

| also that the copies thereof should be laid up in the treasury, to the end that Simon and his sons might have them. | списaніе же си1хъ положи1ти въ газофmлaкіи, ћкw да и4мать сjмwнъ и3 сhнове є3гw2. |
