Now Judas had heard of the fame of the Romans, that they were mighty and valiant men, and such as would lovingly accept all that joined themselves unto them, and make a league of amity with all that came unto them;	И# слhша їyда и4мz ри1млzнъ, ћкw сyть си1льни крёпостію, и3 тjи благоволsтъ њ всёхъ приложи1вшихсz къ ни6мъ, и3 є3ли1цы пріи1дутъ къ ни6мъ, составлsютъ съ ни1ми дрyжбу, и3 ћкw сyть си1льни крёпостію.

and that they were men of great valour. It was told him also of their wars and noble acts which they had done among the Galatians, and how they had conquered them, and brought them under tribute;	И# повёдаша є3мY бр†ни и4хъ и3 мyжєства бл†га, ±же творsтъ въ галaтэхъ, и3 ћкw њдержaша и5хъ и3 привед0ша и5хъ под8 дaнь:

and what they had done in the country of Spain, for the winning of the mines of the silver and gold which is there;	и3 коли6ка сотвори1ша во странЁ їспанjйстэй, є4же ўдержaти руды6 сребрA и3 злaта, є4же тaмw: и3 њдержaша всsко мёсто совётомъ свои1мъ и3 долготерпёніемъ,

and that by their policy and patience they had conquered all the place, though it were very far from them; and the kings also that came against them from the uttermost part of the earth, till they had discomfited them, and given them a great overthrow, so that the rest did give them tribute every year:	и3 мёсто бЁ далeче tстоsщо t ни1хъ ѕэлw2: и3 царeй нашeдшихъ на ни1хъ t крaz земли2 сотр0ша, и3 порази1ша и5хъ ћзвою вели1кою, пр0чіи же даю1тъ и5мъ дaнь по вс‰ лBта:

Beside this, how they had discomfited in battle Philip, and Perseus, king of the Citims, with others that lifted up themselves against them, and had overcome them:	и3 філjппа и3 персeа кітіeйскаго царS, и3 востaвшихъ на ни1хъ сокруши1ша и5хъ въ брaни и3 њдержaша и5хъ:

how also Antiochus the great king of Asia, that came against them in battle, having an hundred and twenty elephants, with horsemen, and chariots, and a very great army, was discomfited by them;	и3 ґнті0ха вели1каго царS ґсjйскаго, шeдшаго проти1ву и4хъ на брaнь, и3мyщаго сто2 двaдесzть слонHвъ, к0нники и3 колєсни1цы и3 си1лу вeлію ѕэлw2, и3 сотрeнъ бhсть t ни1хъ:

and how they took him alive, and covenanted that he and such as reigned after him should pay a great tribute, and give hostages, and that which was agreed upon,	и3 ћша є3го2 жи1ва, и3 ўстaвиша, да даeтъ и5мъ т0й и3 цaрствующіи по нeмъ дaнь вели1ку, и3 даsти зал0гъ и3 ўставлeніе,

and the country of India, and Media, and Lydia, and of the goodliest countries, which they took of him, and gave to king Eumenes.	и3 странY їндjйску и3 мидjю, и3 лmдjю и3 t пред0брыхъ стрaнъ и4хъ, и3 взsвше и5хъ t негw2 дaша \| є3vмeнію царю2:

Moreover how the Grecians had determined to come and destroy them;	и3 ћкw совэщaша сyщіи t є3ллaды пріити2 и3 взsти и4хъ: и3 ўвёдано бhсть сл0во тBмъ,

and that they, having knowledge thereof, sent against them a certain captain, and fighting with them slew many of them, and carried away captives their wives and their children, and spoiled them, and took possession of their lands, and pulled down their strong holds, and brought them to be their servants unto this day.	и3 послaша на ни1хъ воев0ду є3ди1наго и3 воевaша на ни1хъ, и3 пад0ша t ни1хъ ћзвеніи мн0зи, и3 плэни1ша жeнъ и4хъ и3 ч†дъ и4хъ, и3 разгрaбиша и5хъ и3 зeмлю и4хъ њдержaша, и3 разори1ша тверды6ни и4хъ и3 пораб0тиша и5хъ дaже до сегw2 днE:

It was told him besides, how they destroyed and brought under their dominion all other kingdoms and isles that at any time resisted them;	и3 прHчаz ц†рства и3 џстровы, и5же нёкогда проти1вишасz и5мъ, и3стреби1ша и3 пораб0тиша и5хъ:

but with their friends and such as relied upon them they kept amity: and that they had conquered kingdoms both far and nigh, insomuch as all that heard of their name were afraid of them:	съ дрyги же свои1ми и3 примирsющимисz къ ни6мъ сохранsху дрyжбу, и3 њдержaху ц†рства бли6жнzz и3 д†льнzz, и3 є3ли1цы слhшаху и4мz и4хъ, боsхусz t ни1хъ:

also that, whom they would help to a kingdom, those reign; and whom again they would, they displace: finally, that they were greatly exalted:	є3ли6цэмъ же ѓще хотsтъ помогaти и3 воцарsти, цaрствуютъ: и3 и5хже ѓще хотsтъ, премэнsютъ: и3 вознес0шасz ѕэлw2:

yet for all this none of them wore a crown, or was clothed in purple, to be magnified thereby:	и3 во всёхъ си1хъ не возлагaше ни є3ди1нъ t ни1хъ діади1мы, ни њблачaшесz въ порфЂру, є4же возвели1читисz њ нeй:

moreover how they had made for themselves a senate house, wherein three hundred and twenty men sat in council daily, consulting alway for the people, to the end they might be well ordered:	и3 совётную палaту сотвори1ша себЁ, и3 на всsкъ дeнь совётоваху въ нeй њ мн0жествэ (нар0дwвъ) є4же благоустроsти и5хъ:

and that they committed their government to one man every year, who ruled over all their country, and that all were obedient to that one, and that there was neither envy nor emulation among them.	и3 ввэрsютъ є3ди1ному человёку начaлство своE по лёту, и3 госп0дствовати всeю землeю и4хъ, и3 вси2 повинyютсz є3ди1ному, и3 нёсть зaвисти нижE рвeніz въ ни1хъ.

In consideration of these things, Judas chose Eupolemus the son of John, the son of Accos, and Jason the son of Eleazar, and sent them to Rome, to make a league of amity and confederacy with them,	И# и3збрA їyда є3vполем0на сhна їwaннова, сhна ґккHсова, и3 їaсона сhна є3леазaрова, и3 послA и5хъ въ ри1мъ, состaвити съ ни1ми дрyжбу и3 споборeніе,

and to intreat them that they would take the yoke from them; for they saw that the kingdom of the Grecians did oppress Israel with servitude.	и3 є4же tsти t ни1хъ и4го и4хъ, понeже ви1дэша цaрство є4ллинское порабощaющее ї}лz въ раб0ту.

They went therefore to Rome, which was a very great journey, and came into the senate, where they spake and said,	И# и3д0ша въ ри1мъ, пyть же вeлій ѕэлw2, и3 внид0ша въ палaту совётную, и3 tвэщaша и3 рёша:

Judas Maccabeus with his brethren, and the people of the Jews, have sent us unto you, to make a confederacy and peace with you, and that we might be registered your confederates and friends.	їyда маккавeй и3 брaтіz є3гw2 и3 мн0жество їудeйское послaша нaсъ къ вaмъ состaвити съ вaми дрyжбу и3 ми1ръ и3 вписaти нaсъ споб0рниками и3 другaми вaшими.

So that matter pleased the Romans well.	И# ўг0дно бhсть сл0во пред8 ни1ми.

And this is the copy of the epistle which the senate wrote back again in tables of brass, and sent to Jerusalem, that there they might have by them a memorial of peace and confederacy:	И# сіE списaніе послaніz, є4же восписaша на дщи1цахъ мёдzныхъ и3 послaша во їеrли1мъ бhти ў ни1хъ тaмw въ пaмzть ми1ра и3 споб0рства:

Good success be to the Romans, and to the people of the Jews, by sea and by land for ever: the sword also and enemy be far from them.	блaго да бyдетъ ри1млzнwмъ и3 kзhку їудeйску на м0ри и3 на земли2 въ вёкъ, nрyжіе же и3 врази2 далeче да бyдутъ t ни1хъ:

If there come first any war upon the Romans or any of their confederates throughout all their dominion,	ѓще же настyпитъ брaнь ри1млzнwмъ пeрвэе и3ли2 всBмъ споб0рникwмъ и4хъ во всeмъ госп0дствэ и4хъ,

the people of the Jews shall help them, as the time shall be appointed, with all their heart:	споб0ретъ kзhкъ їудeйскій, ћкоже врeмz њпредэли1тъ и5мъ, сeрдцемъ п0лнымъ:

neither shall they give any thing unto them that make war upon them, or aid them with victuals, weapons, money, or ships, as it hath seemed good unto the Romans: but they shall keep their covenants without taking any thing therefore.	и3 рaтующымъ не дадyтъ, нижE ссyдzтъ пшени1цею, nрyжіемъ, сребр0мъ, кораблsми, ћкоже ўг0дно ри1млzнwмъ, и3 сохранsтъ зaпwвэди и4хъ ничт0же взeмлюще:

In the same manner also, if war come first upon the nation of the Jews, the Romans shall help them with all their heart, according as the time shall be appointed them:	тaкожде ѓще и3 kзhку їудeйску прeжде случи1тсz брaнь, пом0гутъ ри1млzне t души2, ћкоже и5мъ врeмz њпредэли1тъ:

neither shall victuals be given to them that take part against them, or weapons, or money, or ships, as it hath seemed good to the Romans; but they shall keep their covenants, and that without deceit.	и3 споборaющымъ не дaстсz пшени1ца, nрyжіе, сребро2, корабли6, ћкоже ўг0дно ри1млzнwмъ: и3 сохранsти зaпwвэди и4хъ, и3 без8 лeсти.

According to these articles did the Romans make a covenant with the people of the Jews.	По си6мъ словесє1мъ ўстaвиша ри1млzне лю1демъ їудє1йскимъ.

Howbeit if hereafter the one party or the other shall think meet to add or diminish any thing, they may do it at their pleasures, and whatsoever they shall add or take away shall be ratified.	Ѓще же по словесёхъ си1хъ совэщaютсz сjи и3 џніи приложи1ти и3ли2 tsти нёчто, сотворsтъ t произволeніz своегw2, и3 є4же ѓще приложaтъ и3ли2 tи1мутъ, бyдутъ твєрдA.

And as touching the evils that king Demetrius doeth to the Jews, we have written unto him, saying, Wherefore hast thou made thy yoke heavy upon our friends and confederates the Jews?	Ґ њ ѕл0бахъ, ±же цaрь дими1трій твори1тъ въ ни1хъ, писaхомъ є3мY, глаг0люще: вскyю њтzготи1лъ є3си2 и4го твоE на дрyги нaшz споб0рники їудє1и;

If therefore they complain any more against thee, we will do them justice, and fight with thee by sea and by land.	ѓще u5бо пaки прибёгнутъ къ нaмъ на тS, сотвори1мъ и5мъ сyдъ и3 њполчи1мсz на тS м0ремъ и3 землeю.
