Chapter 14	Глава 14

And he did that which was good and right in the sight of the Lord his God.	І спочив Авия з батьками своїми, і поховали його в місті Давидовому. І став царем Аса, син його, замість нього. У дні його спочивала земля десять років.

And he removed the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and broke the pillars in pieces, and cut down the groves:	І робив Аса добре й угодне в очах Господа Бога свого:

and he told Juda to seek earnestly the Lord God of their fathers, and to perform the law and the commandments.	і відкинув він жертовники богів чужих і висоти, і розбив статуї, і вирубав посвячені дерева;

And he removed from all the cities of Juda the altars and the idols, and established in quietness	і повелів юдеям шукати Господа Бога батьків своїх, і виконувати закон [Його] і заповіді;

fortified cities in the land of Juda; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in these years; for the Lord gave him rest.	і скасував він у всіх містах Іудиних висоти і статуї сонця. І спокійним було при ньому царство.

And he said to Juda, Let us fortify these cities, and make walls, and towers, and gates, and bars: we shall prevail over the land, for as we have sought out the Lord our God, he has sought out us, and has given us rest round about, and prospered us.	І побудував він укріплені міста в Юдеї, бо спокійною була земля, і не було в нього війни в ті роки, оскільки Господь дав спокій йому.

And Asa had a force of armed men bearing shields and spears in the land of Juda, even three hundred thousand, and in the land of Benjamin two hundred and eighty thousand targeteers and archers: all these were mighty warriors.	І сказав він юдеям: побудуємо міста ці й обнесемо їх стінами з вежами, з воротами і запорами. Земля ще наша, тому що ми знайшли Господа Бога нашого: ми знайшли Його, — і Він дав нам спокій з усіх боків. І стали будувати, і мали успіх.

And Zare the Ethiopian went out against them, with a force of a million, and three hundred chariots; and came to Maresa.	І було в Аси військової сили: озброєних щитом і списом з коліна Іудиного триста тисяч, і з коліна Веніамінового озброєних щитом і які стріляли з лука, двісті вісімдесят тисяч, людей хоробрих.

And Asa went out to meet him, and set the battle in array in the valley north of Maresa.	І вийшов на них Зарай ефіоплянин з військом у тисячу тисяч і з трьомастами колісниць і дійшов до Мареші.

And Asa cried to the Lord his God, and said, O Lord, it is not impossible with thee to save by many or by few: strengthen us, O Lord our God; for we trust in thee, and in thy name have we come against this great multitude. O Lord our God, let not man prevail against thee.	І виступив Аса проти нього, і вишикувалися до битви на долині Цефата в Мареші.

And the Lord smote the Ethiopians before Juda; and the Ethiopians fled.	І воззвав Аса до Господа Бога свого, і сказав: Господи! чи не в Твоїй силі допомогти сильному або безсилому? допоможи ж нам, Господи Боже наш: тому що ми на Тебе уповаємо і в ім’я Твоє вийшли ми проти безлічі цієї. Господи! Ти Бог наш: нехай не переможе Тебе людина.

And Asa and his people pursued them to Gedor; and the Ethiopians fell, so that they could not recover themselves; for they were crushed before the Lord, and before his host; and they took many spoils.	І вразив Господь ефіоплян перед лицем Аси і перед лицем Іуди, і побігли ефіопляни.

And they destroyed their towns round about Gedor; for a terror of the Lord was upon them: and they spoiled all their cities, for they had much spoil.	І переслідував їх Аса і народ, який був з ним, до Герара, і впали ефіопляни, так що в них нікого не залишилося в живих, тому що вони вражені були перед Господом і перед воїнством Його. І набрали здобичі безліч.

Also they destroyed the tents of cattle, and the Alimazons, and took many sheep and camels, and returned to Jerusalem.	І зруйнували всі міста навколо Герара, тому що напав на них жах від Господа; і розграбували всі міста і винесли з них дуже багато здобичі.
