Chapter 4	Глава́ д҃

1	1
What then shall we say that Abraham, our father, hath found according to the flesh?	Что̀ оу҆̀бо рече́мъ а҆враа́ма ѻ҆тца̀ на́шего ѡ҆брѣстѝ по пло́ти;

For if Abraham was justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not toward God.	А҆́ще бо а҆враа́мъ ѿ дѣ́лъ ѡ҆правда́сѧ, и҆́мать похвалꙋ̀, но не оу҆ бг҃а.

For what saith the scripture? And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness.	Что́ бо писа́нїе глаго́летъ; вѣ́рова же а҆враа́мъ бг҃ови, и҆ вмѣни́сѧ є҆мꙋ̀ въ пра́вдꙋ.

Now to him that worketh, the reward is not reckoned as of grace, but as of debt.	(Заⷱ҇ п҃ѕ҃.) Дѣ́лающемꙋ же мзда̀ не вмѣнѧ́етсѧ по блгⷣти, но по до́лгꙋ:

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is reckoned for righteousness.	а҆ не дѣ́лающемꙋ, вѣ́рꙋющемꙋ же во ѡ҆правда́ющаго нечести́ва, вмѣнѧ́етсѧ вѣ́ра є҆гѡ̀ въ пра́вдꙋ.

Even as David also pronounceth blessing upon the man, unto whom God reckoneth righteousness apart from works,	Ꙗ҆́коже и҆ дв҃дъ глаго́летъ бл҃же́нство человѣ́ка, є҆мꙋ́же вмѣнѧ́етъ бг҃ъ пра́вдꙋ, без̾ дѣ́лъ зако́на:

saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, And whose sins are covered.	бл҃же́ни, и҆́хже ѿпꙋсти́шасѧ беззакѡ́нїѧ и҆ и҆́хже прикры́шасѧ грѣсѝ:
8	8
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not reckon sin.	бл҃же́нъ мꙋ́жъ, є҆мꙋ́же не вмѣни́тъ гдⷭ҇ь грѣха̀.

Is this blessing then pronounced upon the circumcision, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.	Бл҃же́нство оу҆̀бо сїѐ на ѡ҆брѣ́занїе ли, и҆лѝ на неѡбрѣ́занїе; Глаго́лемъ бо, ꙗ҆́кѡ вмѣни́сѧ а҆враа́мꙋ вѣ́ра въ пра́вдꙋ.

How then was it reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision:	Ка́кѡ оу҆̀бо вмѣни́сѧ є҆мꙋ̀; во ѡ҆брѣ́занїи ли сꙋ́щꙋ, и҆лѝ въ неѡбрѣ́занїи; Не во ѡ҆брѣ́занїи, но въ неѡбрѣ́занїи.

and he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while he was in uncircumcision: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be in uncircumcision, that righteousness might be reckoned unto them also;	И҆ зна́менїе прїѧ́тъ ѡ҆брѣ́занїѧ, печа́ть пра́вды вѣ́ры, ꙗ҆́же въ неѡбрѣ́занїи: ꙗ҆́кѡ бы́ти є҆мꙋ̀ ѻ҆тцꙋ̀ всѣ́хъ вѣ́рꙋющихъ въ неѡбрѣ́занїи, во є҆́же вмѣни́тисѧ и҆ тѣ̑мъ въ пра́вдꙋ,

and the father of circumcision to them who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham which he had in uncircumcision.	и҆ ѻ҆тцꙋ̀ ѡ҆брѣ́занїѧ, не сꙋ́щымъ то́чїю ѿ ѡ҆брѣ́занїѧ, но и҆ ходѧ́щымъ въ стопа́хъ вѣ́ры, ꙗ҆́же (бѣ̀) въ неѡбрѣ́занїи ѻ҆тца̀ на́шегѡ а҆враа́ма.

For not through the law was the promise to Abraham or to his seed that he should be heir of the world, but through the righteousness of faith.	(Заⷱ҇ п҃з҃.) Не зако́номъ бо ѡ҆бѣтова́нїе а҆враа́мꙋ, и҆лѝ сѣ́мени є҆гѡ̀, є҆́же бы́ти є҆мꙋ̀ наслѣ́дникꙋ мі́рови, но пра́вдою вѣ́ры.

For if they that are of the law are heirs, faith is made void, and the promise is made of none effect:	А҆́ще бо сꙋ́щїи ѿ зако́на наслѣ̑дницы, и҆спраздни́сѧ вѣ́ра, и҆ разори́сѧ ѡ҆бѣтова́нїе:
15	15
for the law worketh wrath; for where there is no law, neither is there transgression.	зако́нъ бо гнѣ́въ содѣ́ловаетъ: и҆дѣ́же бо нѣ́сть зако́на, (тꙋ̀) ни престꙋпле́нїѧ.

For this cause it is of faith, that it may be according to grace; to the end that the promise may be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all	Сегѡ̀ ра́ди ѿ вѣ́ры, да по блгⷣти, во є҆́же бы́ти и҆звѣ́стнꙋ ѡ҆бѣтова́нїю всемꙋ̀ сѣ́мени, не то́чїю сꙋ́щемꙋ ѿ зако́на, но и҆ сꙋ́щемꙋ ѿ вѣ́ры а҆враа́мовы, и҆́же є҆́сть ѻ҆те́цъ всѣ̑мъ на́мъ,

(as it is written, A father of many nations have I made thee) before him whom he believed, even God, who giveth life to the dead, and calleth the things that are not, as though they were.	ꙗ҆́коже є҆́сть пи́сано: ꙗ҆́кѡ ѻ҆тца̀ мнѡ́гимъ ꙗ҆зы́кѡмъ положи́хъ тѧ̀, прѧ́мѡ бг҃ꙋ, є҆мꙋ́же вѣ́рова, животворѧ́щемꙋ мє́ртвыѧ и҆ нарица́ющꙋ не сꙋ̑щаѧ ꙗ҆́кѡ сꙋ̑щаѧ.

Who in hope believed against hope, to the end that he might become a father of many nations, according to that which had been spoken, So shall thy seed be.	И҆́же па́че оу҆пова́нїѧ во оу҆пова́нїе вѣ́рова, во є҆́же бы́ти є҆мꙋ̀ ѻ҆тцꙋ̀ мнѡ́гимъ ꙗ҆зы́кѡмъ, по рече́нномꙋ: та́кѡ бꙋ́детъ сѣ́мѧ твоѐ.

And without being weakened in faith he considered not his own body now as good as dead (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb;	И҆ не и҆знемо́гъ вѣ́рою, ни оу҆смотрѝ своеѧ̀ пло́ти оу҆жѐ оу҆мерщвле́нныѧ, столѣ́тенъ нѣ́гдѣ сы́й, и҆ ме́ртвости ложе́снъ са́рриныхъ:

yet, looking unto the promise of God, he wavered not through unbelief, but waxed strong through faith, giving glory to God,	во ѡ҆бѣтова́нїи же бж҃їи не оу҆сꙋмнѣ́сѧ невѣ́рованїемъ, но возмо́же вѣ́рою, да́въ сла́вꙋ бг҃ови

and being fully assured that what he had promised, he was able also to perform.	и҆ и҆звѣ́стенъ бы́въ, ꙗ҆́кѡ, є҆́же ѡ҆бѣща̀, си́ленъ є҆́сть и҆ сотвори́ти.

Wherefore also it was reckoned unto him for righteousness.	Тѣ́мже и҆ вмѣни́сѧ є҆мꙋ̀ въ пра́вдꙋ.

Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was reckoned unto him;	Не пи́сано же бы́сть за того̀ є҆ди́наго то́чїю, ꙗ҆́кѡ вмѣни́сѧ є҆мꙋ̀,
24	24
but for our sake also, unto whom it shall be reckoned, who believe on him that raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,	но и҆ за ны̀, и҆̀мже хо́щетъ вмѣни́тисѧ, вѣ́рꙋющымъ въ воскр҃си́вшаго і҆и҃са хрⷭ҇та̀ гдⷭ҇а на́шего и҆з̾ ме́ртвыхъ,

who was delivered up for our trespasses, and was raised for our justification.	и҆́же пре́данъ бы́сть за прегрѣшє́нїѧ на̑ша и҆ воста̀ за ѡ҆правда́нїе на́ше.
