And when I had made an end of speaking these words, there was sent unto me the angel who had been sent unto me the nights afore:
2
2
и3 речE ко мнЁ: востaни, є4здро, и3 слhши словесA, ±же пріид0хъ глаг0лати къ тебЁ. and he said unto me, Up, Ezra, and hear the words that I am come to tell thee.
3
3
And I said, Speak on, my Lord. Then he said unto me, There is a sea set in a wide place, that it might be broad and vast.
4
4
бyдетъ же є3мY вх0дъ въ тёснэ мёстэ постaвленъ, дабы2 под0бно рэкaмъ бhло: But the entrance thereof shall be set in a narrow place so as to be like a river;
5
5
кт0 бо хотsй восх0щетъ вни1ти въ м0ре и3 ви1дэти є5, и3ли2 госп0дствовати и4мъ, ѓще не пр0йдетъ тэсноты2, въ широтY кaкw пріити2 м0жетъ; whoso then should desire to go into the sea to look upon it, or to rule it, if he went not through the narrow, how could he come into the broad?
6
6
и3 пaки и4но: грaдъ с0зданъ є4сть и3 постaвленъ на мёстэ полев0мъ, є4сть же и3сп0лненъ всёми благи1ми: Another thing also: There is a city built and set in a plain country, and full of all good things;
7
7
A: but the entrance thereof is narrow, and is set in a dangerous place to fall, having a fire on the right hand, and on the left a deep water:
8
8
стезs же є4сть є3ди1на т0кмw междY и4ма проложенA, си1рэчь междY nгнeмъ и3 вод0ю, є3ди1ну т0кмw ступeнь человёчу могyщаz вмэсти1ти: and there is one only path between them both, even between the fire and the water, so small that there could but one man go there at once.
9
9
є3гдA ќбw дaстсz грaдъ сeй человёку въ достоsніе, ѓще не пр0йдетъ когдA предположeннагw бёдства, кaкw пріи1метъ достоsніе своE; If this city now be given unto a man for an inheritance, if the heir pass not the danger before him, how shall he receive his inheritance?
10
10
И# рек0хъ: тaкw, гDи. И# речE ко мнЁ: тaкw є4сть и3 ї}лева чaсть: And I said, It is so, Lord. Then said he unto me, Even so also is Israel’s portion.
11
11
Because for their sakes I made the world: and when Adam transgressed my statutes, then was decreed that now is done.
12
12
Then were the entrances of this world made narrow, and sorrowful and toilsome: they are but few and evil, full of perils, and charged with great toils.
13
13
For the entrances of the greater world are wide and sure, and bring forth fruit of immortality.
14
14
If then they that live enter not these strait and vain things, they can never receive those that are laid up for them.
15
15
нн7э ќбw вскyю ты2 смущaешисz, є3гдA є3си2 тлёненъ, и3 что2 мzтeшисz ты2, є3гдA є3си2 смeртенъ; Now therefore why disquietest thou thyself, seeing thou art but a corruptible man? and why art thou moved, whereas thou art but mortal?
16
16
и3 вскyю не пріsлъ є3си2 въ сeрдцы твоeмъ, є4же є4сть бyдущее, но є4же настоsщее; and why hast thou not considered in thy mind that which is to come, rather than that which is present?
17
17
Then answered I and said, O Lord that bearest rule, lo, thou hast ordained in thy law, that the righteous should inherit these things, but that the ungodly should perish.
18
18
прaведніи же понесyтъ тэснотY надёющесz прострaнныхъ: и5же бо нечести1вw сотвори1ша, и3 тэснотY пострадaвше прострaнныхъ не ќзрzтъ. The righteous therefore shall suffer strait things, and hope for wide: but they that have done wickedly have suffered the strait things, and yet shall not see the wide.
19
19
И# речE ко мнЁ: нёсть судіS пaче бGа, ни разумэвazй пaче вhшнzгw: And he said unto me, Thou art not a judge above God, neither hast thou understanding above the Most High.
20
20
Yea, rather let many that now are perish, than that the law of God which is set before them be despised.
21
21
For God straitly commanded such as came, even as they came, what they should do to live, and what they should observe to avoid punishment.
22
22
тjи бо не сyть ўвэщaни, и3 проти1вишасz є3мY, и3 положи1ша себЁ помышлeніе сyетное, Nevertheless they were not obedient unto him; but spake against him, and imagined for themselves vain things;
23
23
и3 предстaвиша себЁ њбхождeніе грэхHвъ, и3 глаг0лаша вhшнему не бhти, и3 путjй є3гw2 не познaша, and framed cunning devices of wickedness; and said moreover of the Most High, that he is not; and knew not his ways:
24
24
и3 зак0нъ є3гw2 ўничижи1ша, и3 њбэтwвaніz є3гw2 tверг0ша, и3 въ зак0нэхъ є3гw2 вёры не и3мёша, и3 дёлъ є3гw2 не соверши1ша: but they despised his law, and denied his covenants; they have not been faithful to his statutes, and have not performed his works.
25
25
Therefore, Ezra, for the empty are empty things, and for the full are the full things.
26
26
сE, врeмz пріи1детъ, и3 бyдетъ, є3гдA пріи1дутъ знaмєніz, ±же предрек0хъ тебЁ, и3 kви1тсz невёста, и3 kвлsющисz покaжетсz, ћже нн7э крhетсz t земли2, For behold, the time shall come, and it shall be, when these tokens, of which I told thee before, shall come to pass, that the bride shall appear, even the city coming forth, and she shall be seen, that now is withdrawn from the earth.
27
27
и3 всsкъ, и4же и3збaвленъ є4сть t предрэчeнныхъ ѕлhхъ, т0й ќзритъ ди6внаz мо‰: And whosoever is delivered from the aforesaid evils, the same shall see my wonders.
28
28
For my son Jesus shall be revealed with those that are with him, and they that remain shall rejoice four hundred years.
29
29
After these years shall my son Christ die, and all that have the breath of life.
30
30
и3 њбрати1тсz вёкъ въ дрeвнее молчaніе днjй сeдмь, ћкоже въ прeжнихъ судёхъ, тaкw ћкw да никто2 њстaнетсz: And the world shall be turned into the old silence seven days, like as in the first beginning: so that no man shall remain.
31
31
And after seven days the world, that yet awaketh not, shall be raised up, and that shall die which is corruptible.
32
32
и3 землS и3здaстъ тёхъ, и5же въ нeй спsтъ, и3 прaхъ, и5же въ нeмъ молчaніемъ њбитaютъ, и3 храни6лища и3здадyтъ вд†нныz и5мъ дyшы: And the earth shall restore those that are asleep in her, and so shall the dust those that dwell therein in silence, and the secret places shall deliver those souls that were committed unto them.
33
33
и3 tкрhетсz вhшній на пrт0лэ судA, и3 пр0йдутъ бэды6, и3 долготерпёніе соберeтсz: And the Most High shall be revealed upon the seat of judgment, and compassion shall pass away, and long-suffering shall be withdrawn:
34
34
сyдъ же є3ди1нъ пребyдетъ, и4стина стaнетъ, и3 вёра возм0жетъ, but judgment only shall remain, truth shall stand, and faith shall wax strong:
35
35
и3 дёло послёдовати бyдетъ, и3 мздA покaжетсz, и3 пр†вды воспрsнутъ, и3 непр†вды не воз8wбладaютъ. and the work shall follow, and the reward shall be shown, and good deeds shall awake, and wicked deeds shall not sleep.
36
36
And the pit of torment shall appear, and over against it shall be the place of rest: and the furnace of hell shall be shown, and over against it the paradise of delight.
37
37
And then shall the Most High say to the nations that are raised from the dead, See ye and understand whom ye have denied, or whom ye have not served, or whose commandments ye have despised.
38
38
Look on this side and on that: here is delight and rest, and there fire and torments. Thus shall he speak unto them in the day of judgment:
39
39
и3 и3ліA за тёхъ, и5же д0ждь пріsша, и3 за мeртва, да њживeтъ, This is a day that hath neither sun, nor moon, nor stars;
40
40
и3 є3зекjа за лю1ди во дни6 сеннахирjма, и3 мн0зи за мн0гихъ: neither cloud, nor thunder, nor lightning; neither wind, nor water, nor air; neither darkness, nor evening, nor morning;
41
41
ѓще u5бо нн7э, є3гдA тлённое возрастE, и3 непрaвда ўмн0жена є4сть, и3 моли1шасz прaведніи за нечести1выхъ, вскyю и3 нн7э тaкw не бyдетъ; neither summer, nor spring, nor heat, nor winter; neither frost, nor cold, nor hail, nor rain, nor dew;
42
42
И# tвэщA ко мнЁ и3 речE: настоsщій вёкъ не є4сть конeцъ, слaва въ нeмъ чaстаz пребывaетъ: тогw2 рaди моли1шасz за немощнhхъ: neither noon, nor night, nor dawn; neither shining, nor brightness, nor light, save only the splendor of the glory of the Most High, whereby all shall see the things that are set before them:
43
43
дeнь бо сyдный бyдетъ конeцъ врeмене сегw2 и3 начaло врeмене бyдущагw безсмeртіz, въ нeмже мимои1де тлёніе, for it shall endure as it were a week of years.
44
44
This is my judgment and the ordinance thereof; but to thee only have I shown these things.
45
45
2. And I answered, I said even then, O Lord, and I say now: blessed are they that are now alive and keep the statutes ordained of thee.
46
46
И# tвэщaхъ и3 рек0хъ: сіE є4сть сл0во моE пeрвое и3 послёднее, ћкw лyчше бЁ не дaти земли2 ґдaму, и3ли2 є3гдA ўжE данA бhсть, ўдержaти є3го2, да не согрэши1тъ: But as touching them for whom my prayer was made, what shall I say? for who is there of them that are alive that hath not sinned, and who of the sons of men that hath not transgressed thy covenant?
47
47
And now I see, that the world to come shall bring delight to few, but torments unto many.
48
48
For an evil heart hath grown up in us, which hath led us astray from these statutes, and hath brought us into corruption and into the ways of death, hath shown us the paths of perdition and removed us far from life; and that, not a few only, but well nigh all that have been created.
49
49
чт0 бо п0льзуетъ нaмъ, ѓще њбэщaно є4сть нaмъ безсмeртное врeмz, мh же смє1ртнаz дэлA содёлахомъ; And he answered me, and said, Hearken unto me, and I will instruct thee; and I will admonish thee yet again:
50
50
и3 ћкw предрэчeнно є4сть нaмъ вёчное ўповaніе, мh же стропти1віи сyетни сотвори1хомсz; for this cause the Most High hath not made one world, but two.
51
51
и3 ћкw tложє1на сyть нaмъ жили6ща здрaвіz и3 пок0z, мh же лукaвw жи1ли є3смы2; For whereas thou hast said that the just are not many, but few, and the ungodly abound, hear the answer thereunto.
52
52
If thou hath choice stones exceeding few, wilt thou set for thee over against them according to their number things of lead and clay?
53
53
и3 ћкw покaзанъ бyдетъ рaй, є3гHже пл0дъ нерастлёнъ пребывaетъ, въ нeмже є4сть пок0й и3 врачбA, And I said, Lord, how shall this be?
54
54
And he said unto me, Not only this, but ask the earth, and she shall tell thee; entreat her, and she shall declare unto thee.
55
55
For thou shalt say unto her, Thou bringest forth gold and silver and brass, and iron also and lead and clay:
56
56
и4бо не помышлsхомъ живyще, є3гдA беззак0ніе твори1хомъ, ћкw и4мамы по смeрти терпёти. but silver is more abundant than gold, and brass than silver, and iron than brass, lead than iron, and clay than lead.
57
57
И# tвэщA и3 речE: сіE є4сть помышлeніе п0двига, и4мже подвизaтисz бyдетъ на земли2 рождeнный человёкъ, Judge thou therefore which things are precious and to be desired, whatso is abundant or what is rare.
58
58
And I said, O Lord that bearest rule, that which is plentiful is of less worth, for that which is more rare is more precious.
59
59
And he answered me, and said, Weigh within thyself the things that thou hast thought, for he that hath what is hard to get rejoiceth over him that hath what is plentiful.
60
60
So also is the judgment which I have promised: for I will rejoice over the few that shall be saved, inasmuch as these are they that have made my glory now to prevail, and of whom my name is now named.
61
61
And I will not grieve over the multitude of them that perish; for these are they that are now like unto vapor, and are become as flame and smoke; they are set on fire and burn hotly, and are quenched.
62
62
And I answered and said, O thou earth, wherefore hast thou brought forth, if the mind is made out of dust, like as all other created things?
63
63
и3 ћкw ми1луетъ тёхъ, и5же житіE творsтъ по зак0ну є3гw2, For it were better that the dust itself had been unborn, so that the mind might not have been made therefrom.
64
64
But now the mind groweth with us, and by reason of this we are tormented, because we perish and know it.
65
65
Let the race of men lament and the beasts of the field be glad; let all that are born lament, but let the four-footed beasts and the cattle rejoice.
66
66
For it is far better with them than with us; for they look not for judgment, neither do they know of torments or of salvation promised unto them after death.
67
67
For what doth it profit us, that we shall be preserved alive, but yet be afflicted with torment?
68
68
понeже ѓще бы не дaрствовалъ t бlгости своеS, да њблегчaтсz сjи, и5же беззак0ніе сотвори1ша t свои1хъ беззак0ній, то не возмоглa бы десzтотhсzщнаz чaсть живA бhти человёкwвъ: For all that are born are defiled with iniquities, and are full of sins and laden with offenses:
69
69
и3 судіS, ѓще бы не прости1лъ w4нымъ, и5же и3зцэлeни сyть сл0вомъ є3гw2, и3 потреби1лъ бы мн0жество рaспрей, and if after death we were not to come into judgment, peradventure it had been better for us.
70
70
не бы2 њстaлисz бhша въ безчи1сленнэмъ мн0жествэ, рaзвэ мaли ѕэлw2. And he answered me, and said, When the Most High made the world, and Adam and all them that came of him, he first prepared the judgment and the things that pertain unto the judgment.
