ΕΣΤΙΝ ἔλεγχος ὃς οὐκ ἔστιν ὡραῖος, καὶ ἔστι σιωπῶν καὶ αὐτὸς φρόνιμος.
|
My son, hast thou sinned? do so no more, but ask pardon for thy former sins.

|
ὡς καλὸν ἐλέγξαι ἢ θυμοῦσθαι, καὶ ὁ ἀνθομολογούμενος ἀπὸ ἐλαττώσεως κωλυθήσεται.
|
Flee from sin as from the face of a serpent: for if thou comest too near it, it will bite thee: the teeth thereof are as the teeth of a lion, slaying the souls of men.
|

|
ἐπιθυμία εὐνούχου ἀποπαρθενῶσαι νεάνιδα, οὕτως ὁ ποιῶν ἐν βίᾳ κρίματα.
|
All iniquity is as a two edged sword, the wounds whereof cannot be healed.

|
ἔστι σιωπῶν εὑρισκόμενος σοφός, καὶ ἔστι μισητὸς ἀπὸ πολλῆς λαλιᾶς.
|
To terrify and do wrong will waste riches: thus the house of proud men shall be made desolate.

|
ἔστι σιωπῶν, οὐ γὰρ ἔχει ἀπόκρισιν, καὶ ἔστι σιωπῶν εἰδὼς καιρόν.
|
A prayer out of a poor man's mouth reacheth to the ears of God, and his judgment cometh speedily.
|

|
ἄνθρωπος σοφὸς σιγήσει ἕως καιροῦ, ὁ δὲ λαπιστὴς καὶ ἄφρων ὑπερβήσεται καιρόν.
|
He that hateth reproof is in the way of sinners: but he that feareth the Lord will repent from his heart.
|

|
ὁ πλεονάζων λόγῳ βδελυχθήσεται, καὶ ὁ ἐνεξουσιαζόμενος μισηθήσεται.
|
An eloquent man is known far and near; but a man of understanding knoweth when he slippeth.
|

|
ἔστιν εὐοδία ἐν κακοῖς ἀνδρί, καὶ ἔστιν εὕρημα εἰς ἐλάττωσιν.
|
He that buildeth his house with other men's money is like one that gathereth himself stones for the tomb of his burial.

|
ἔστι δόσις, ἣ οὐ λυσιτελήσει σοι, καὶ ἔστι δόσις, ἧς τὸ ἀνταπόδομα διπλοῦν.
|
The congregation of the wicked is like tow wrapped together: and the end of them is a flame of fire to destroy them.
|

|
ἔστιν ἐλάττωσις ἕνεκεν δόξης, καὶ ἔστιν ὃς ἀπὸ ταπεινώσεως ᾖρε κεφαλήν.
|
The way of sinners is made plain with stones, but at the end thereof is the pit of hell.
|

|
ἔστιν ἀγοράζων πολλὰ ὀλίγου καὶ ἀποτιννύων αὐτὰ ἑπταπλάσιον.
|
He that keepeth the law of the Lord getteth the understanding thereof: and the perfection of the fear of the Lord is wisdom.

|
ὁ σοφὸς ἐν λόγῳ ἑαυτὸν προσφιλῆ ποιήσει, χάριτες δὲ μωρῶν ἐκχυθήσονται.
|
He that is not wise will not be taught: but there is a wisdom which multiplieth bitterness.
|

|
δόσις ἄφρονος οὐ λυσιτελήσει σοι, οἱ γὰρ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ ἀνθ᾿ ἑνὸς πολλοί·
|
The knowledge of a wise man shall abound like a flood: and his counsel is like a pure fountain of life.

|
ὀλίγα δώσει καὶ πολλὰ ὀνειδίσει καὶ ἀνοίξει τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ ὡς κῆρυξ· σήμερον δανιεῖ καὶ αὔριον ἀπαιτήσει, μισητὸς ἄνθρωπος ὁ τοιοῦτος.
|
The inner parts of a fool are like a broken vessel, and he will hold no knowledge as long as he liveth.
|

|
μωρὸς ἐρεῖ· οὐχ ὑπάρχει μοι φίλος, καὶ οὐκ ἔστι χάρις τοῖς ἀγαθοῖς μου· οἱ ἔσθοντες τὸν ἄρτον μου, φαῦλοι γλώσσῃ·
|
If a skilful man hear a wise word, he will commend it, and add unto it: but when one of no understanding heareth it, it displeaseth him, and he casteth it behind his back.
|

|
ποσάκις καὶ ὅσοι καταγελάσονται αὐτοῦ;—
|
The talking of a fool is like a burden in the way: but grace shall be found in the lips of the wise.
|

|
᾿Ολίσθημα ἀπὸ ἐδάφους μᾶλλον ἢ ἀπὸ γλώσσης, οὕτως πτῶσις κακῶν κατὰ σπουδὴν ἥξει.
|
They enquire at the mouth of the wise man in the congregation, and they shall ponder his words in their heart.
|

|
ἄνθρωπος ἄχαρις, μῦθος ἄκαιρος· ἐν στόματι ἀπαιδεύτων ἐνδελεχισθήσεται.
|
As a house that is destroyed, so is wisdom to a fool: and the knowledge of the unwise is as talk without sense.
|

|
ἀπὸ στόματος μωροῦ ἀποδοκιμασθήσεται παραβολή, οὐ γὰρ μὴ εἴπῃ αὐτὴν ἐν καιρῷ αὐτῆς.
|
Doctrine unto fools is as fetters on the feet, and like manacles on the right hand.
|

|
῎Εστι κωλυόμενος ἁμαρτάνειν ἀπὸ ἐνδείας, καὶ ἐν τῇ ἀναπαύσει αὐτοῦ οὐ κατανυγήσεται.
|
A fool lifteth up his voice with laughter; but a wise man doth scarce smile a little.
|

|
ἔστιν ἀπολλύων τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ δι᾿ αἰσχύνην, καὶ ἀπὸ ἄφρονος προσώπου ἀπολεῖ αὐτήν.
|
Learning is unto a wise man as an ornament of gold, and like a bracelet upon his right arm.
|

|
ἔστι χάριν αἰσχύνης ἐπαγγελόμενος φίλῳ, καὶ ἐκτήσατο αὐτὸν ἐχθρὸν δωρεάν.—
|
A foolish man's foot is soon in his neighbour's house: but a man of experience is ashamed of him.
|

|
Μῶμος πονηρὸς ἐν ἀνθρώπῳ ψεῦδος, ἐν στόματι ἀπαιδεύτων ἐνδελεχισθήσεται.
|
A fool will peep in at the door into the house: but he that is well nurtured will stand without.
|

|
αἱρετὸν κλέπτης ἢ ὁ ἐνδελεχίζων ψεύδει, ἀμφότεροι δὲ ἀπώλειαν κληρονομήσουσιν.
|
It is the rudeness of a man to hearken at the door: but a wise man will be grieved with the disgrace.
|

|
ἦθος ἀνθρώπου ψευδοῦς ἀτιμία, καὶ ἡ αἰσχύνη αὐτοῦ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ ἐνδελεχῶς. ΛΟΓΟΙ ΠΑΡΑΒΟΛΩΝ.—
|
The lips of talkers will be telling such things as pertain not unto them: but the words of such as have understanding are weighed in the balance.

῾Ο σοφὸς ἐν λόγοις προάξει ἑαυτόν, καὶ ἄνθρωπος φρόνιμος ἀρέσει μεγιστᾶσιν.
|
The heart of fools is in their mouth: but the mouth of the wise is in their heart.
|

|
ὁ ἐργαζόμενος γῆν ἀνυψώσει θημωνίαν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ὁ ἀρέσκων μεγιστᾶσιν ἐξιλάσεται ἀδικίαν.
|
When the ungodly curseth Satan, he curseth his own soul.
|

|
ξένια καὶ δῶρα ἀποτυφλοῖ ὀφθαλμοὺς σοφῶν καὶ ὡς φιμὸς ἐν στόματι ἀποτρέπει ἐλεγμούς.
|
A whisperer defileth his own soul, and is hated wheresoever he dwelleth.
|

|
σοφία κεκρυμμένη καὶ θησαυρὸς ἀφανής, τίς ὠφέλεια ἐν ἀμφοτέροις;
|
|
|

|
|
|
κρείσσων ἄνθρωπος ἀποκρύπτων τὴν μωρίαν αὐτοῦ ἢ ἄνθρωπος ἀποκρύπτων τὴν σοφίαν αὐτοῦ.
