1
5, | Now when Simon heard that Tryphon had gathered together a great host to invade the land of Judea, and destroy it, |
2
2
| и3 ви1дэ лю1ди, ћкw сyть въ стрaсэ и3 трeпетэ, и3 взhде во їеrли1мъ и3 собрA лю1ди, | and saw that the people was in great trembling and fear, he went up to Jerusalem, and gathered the people together, |
3
3
| и3 ўвэщA и5хъ и3 речE и5мъ: вы2 вёсте, є3ли6ка ѓзъ и3 брaтіz мо‰ и3 д0мъ nтцA моегw2 сотвори1хомъ и3 њ зак0нэхъ и3 њ с™hхъ, и3 бр†ни и3 тэснwты2, и5хже ви1дэхомъ: | and gave them exhortation, saying, Ye yourselves know what great things I, and my brethren, and my father's house, have done for the laws and the sanctuary, the battles also and troubles which we have seen, |
4
4
| сегw2 рaди погиб0ша брaтіz мо‰ вси2 рaди ї}лz, и3 њстaхъ ѓзъ є3ди1нъ: | by reason whereof all my brethren are slain for Israel's sake, and I am left alone. |
5
5
S: | Now therefore be it far from me, that I should spare mine own life in any time of trouble: for I am no better than my brethren. |
6
6
| nбaче tмщY њ kзhцэ моeмъ и3 њ с™hхъ и3 њ женaхъ и3 чaдэхъ нaшихъ: ћкw собрaшасz вси2 kзhцы сотрeти нaсъ вражды2 рaди. | Doubtless I will avenge my nation, and the sanctuary, and our wives, and our children: for all the heathen are gathered to destroy us of very malice. |
7
7
| И# возгорёшасz дyхомъ лю1діе вкyпэ послyшати словeсъ си1хъ | Now as soon as the people heard these words, their spirit revived. |
8
8
| и3 tвэщaша глaсомъ вeліимъ, глаг0люще: ты2 є3си2 в0ждь нaшъ вмёстw їyды и3 їwнаfaна брaта твоегw2: | And they answered with a loud voice, saying, Thou shalt be our leader instead of Judas and Jonathan thy brother. |
9
9
| Fight thou our battles, and whatsoever thou commandest us, that will we do. |
10
10
| И# собрA вс‰ мyжы брaнники и3 ўскори2 соверши1ти вс‰ стёны їеrли6мскіz и3 ўтверди2 є3го2 w4крестъ: | So then he gathered together all the men of war, and made haste to finish the walls of Jerusalem, and he fortified it round about. |
11
11
| и3 послA їwнаfaна сhна ґвессалHмова и3 съ ни1мъ си1лу дов0лную во їoппjю, и3 и3згнA сyщихъ въ нeй и3 пребhсть тaмw въ нeй. | Also he sent Jonathan the son of Absalom, and with him a great power, to Joppe: who casting out them that were therein remained there in it. |
12
12
| So Tryphon removed from Ptolemais with a great power to invade the land of Judea, and Jonathan was with him in ward. |
13
13
| But Simon pitched his tents at Adida, over against the plain. |
14
14
| И# познA трЂфwнъ, ћкw востA сjмwнъ вмёстw брaта своегw2 їwнаfaна и3 ћкw срази1тисz съ ни1мъ х0щетъ брaнію, | Now when Tryphon knew that Simon was risen up instead of his brother Jonathan, and meant to join battle with him, he sent messengers unto him, saying, |
15
15
| послA къ немY послы2 глаг0лz: сребрA рaди, є4же д0лженъ брaтъ тв0й їwнаfaнъ царю2, потрeбъ рaди, и5хже и3мёzше, содержи1мъ є3го2: | Whereas we have Jonathan thy brother in hold, it is for money that he is owing unto the king's treasure, concerning the business that was committed unto him. |
16
16
| и3 нн7э посли2 сребрA талaнтwвъ сто2 и3 двA сы6на є3гw2 въ зал0гъ, ћкw да не tпущeнъ tстyпитъ t нaсъ, и3 tпyстимъ є3го2. | Wherefore now send an hundred talents of silver, and two of his sons for hostages, that when he is at liberty he may not revolt from us, and we will let him go. |
17
17
| И# познA сjмwнъ, ћкw лeстію глаг0лютъ къ немY, и3 послA сребро2 и3 џтроки, да не когдA враждY пріи1метъ вeлію t людjй, глаг0лющихъ: | Hereupon Simon, albeit he perceived that they spake deceitfully unto him, yet sent he the money and the children, lest peradventure he should procure to himself great hatred of the people: |
18
18
| ћкw не послA є3мY сребрA и3 nтрокHвъ, и3 поги1бе. | who might have said, Because I sent him not the money and the children, therefore is Jonathan dead. |
19
19
| So he sent them the children and the hundred talents: howbeit Tryphon dissembled, neither would he let Jonathan go. |
20
20
| And after this came Tryphon to invade the land, and destroy it, going round about by the way that leadeth unto Adora: but Simon and his host marched against him in every place, wheresoever he went. |
21
21
| Сyщіи же t краегрaдіz послaша къ трЂфwну послHвъ понуждaющихъ є3го2, да потщи1тсz пріити2 къ ни6мъ пустhнею и3 послaти и5мъ пи1щы. | Now they that were in the tower sent messengers unto Tryphon, to the end that he should hasten his coming unto them by the wilderness, and send them victuals. |
22
22
| Wherefore Tryphon made ready all his horsemen to come that night: but there fell a very great snow, by reason whereof he came not. So he departed, and came into the country of Galaad. |
23
23
| Е#гдa же прибли1жисz къ васкaмэ, ўби2 їwнаfaна, и3 погребeнъ бhти тaмw. | And when he came near to Bascama, he slew Jonathan, who was buried there. |
24
24
2. | Afterward Tryphon returned and went into his own land. |
25
25
| И# послA сjмwнъ и3 взS кHсти їwнаfaна брaта своегw2 и3 погребE | въ мwди1нэ грaдэ nтє1цъ свои1хъ. | Then sent Simon, and took the bones of Jonathan his brother, and buried them in Modin, the city of his fathers. |
26
26
| И# плaкаша є3гw2 вeсь ї}ль плaчемъ вeліимъ и3 рыдaху є3гw2 дни6 мнHги. | And all Israel made great lamentation for him, and bewailed him many days. |
27
27
| И# создA сjмwнъ над8 гр0бомъ nтцA своегw2 и3 брaтій свои1хъ, и3 вознесE є3го2 видёніемъ, кaменіемъ тeсанымъ созади2 и3 сопреди2, | Simon also built a monument upon the sepulchre of his father and his brethren, and raised it aloft to the sight, with hewn stone behind and before. |
28
28
| и3 постaви на ни1хъ сeдмь пmрамjдъ, є3ди1ну проти1ву є3ди1ноz, nтцY и3 мaтери и3 четhремъ брaтіzмъ: | Moreover he set up seven pyramids, one against another, for his father, and his mother, and his four brethren. |
29
29
| And in these he made cunning devices, about the which he set great pillars, and upon the pillars he made all their armour for a perpetual memory, and by the armour ships carved, that they might be seen of all that sail on the sea. |
30
30
E. | This is the sepulchre which he made at Modin, and it standeth yet unto this day. |
31
31
2, | Now Tryphon dealt deceitfully with the young king Antiochus, and slew him. |
32
32
2. | And he reigned in his stead, and crowned himself king of Asia, and brought a great calamity upon the land. |
33
33
| И# создA сjмwнъ тверды6ни їудє1йскіz, и3 њгради2 столпaмивыс0кими и3 стэнaми вeліими, и3 вратaми и3 зав0рами, и3 положи2 пи1щы въ твердhнехъ. | Then Simon built up the strong holds in Judea, and fenced them about with high towers, and great walls, and gates, and bars, and laid up victuals therein. |
34
34
| И# и3збрA сjмwнъ мyжы и3 послA ко дими1трію царю2, да сотвори1тъ њслаблeніе странЁ, ћкw вс‰ дэлA трЂфwнwва бёша хищє1ніz. | Moreover Simon chose men, and sent to king Demetrius, to the end he should give the land an immunity, because all that Tryphon did was to spoil. |
35
35
| И# послA є3мY дими1трій цaрь по словесє1мъ си6мъ, и3 tвэщA є3мY, и3 написA є3мY є3піст0лію сицевY: | Unto whom king Demetrius answered and wrote after this manner: |
36
36
| цaрь дими1трій сjмwну ґрхіерeю и3 дрyгу царeй и3 старёйшинамъ и3 kзhку їудeйску рaдоватисz: | King Demetrius unto Simon the high priest, and friend of kings, as also unto the elders and nation of the Jews, sendeth greeting: |
37
37
| вэнeцъ златhй и3 пeрстень, ±же послaлъ є3си2, воспріsхомъ, и3 гот0ви є3смы2 сотвори1ти съ вaми ми1ръ вели1къ и3 писaти къ сyщымъ над8 дaньми, є4же њстaвити вaмъ д†ни: | The golden crown, and the scarlet robe, which ye sent unto us, we have received: and we are ready to make a stedfast peace with you, yea, and to write unto our officers, to confirm the immunities which we have granted. |
38
38
| и3 є3ли6ка ўстaвихомъ вaмъ, крBпка сyть, и3 твєрдhни, ±же создaсте, да бyдутъ вaмъ: | And whatsoever covenants we have made with you shall stand; and the strong holds, which ye have builded, shall be your own. |
39
39
| tпущaемъ же невBдэніz и3 согрэшє1ніz дaже до днeшнzгw днE, и3 вэнeцъ, є3г0же д0лжни бhсте, и3 ѓще кaz и3нaz дaнь бЁ во їеrли1мэ, ктомY да не бyдутъ давaємаz: | As for any oversight or fault committed unto this day, we forgive it, and the crown tax also, which ye owe us: and if there were any other tribute paid in Jerusalem, it shall no more be paid. |
40
40
| и3 ѓще нёцыи ўг0дни t вaсъ вписaтисz къ нaшымъ, да впи1шутсz, и3 да бyдетъ междY нaми ми1ръ. | And look who are meet among you to be in our court, let them be enrolled, and let there be peace betwixt us. |
41
41
| Лёта сто2 седмьдесsтагw tsто бhсть и4го kзhческое t ї}лz, | Thus the yoke of the heathen was taken away from Israel in the hundred and seventieth year. |
42
42
| и3 начaша лю1діе ї}лєвы писaти въ писaніихъ и3 въ совэщaніихъ: лёта пeрвагw при сjмwнэ ґрхіерeи вели1цэмъ и3 в0инэ и3 вожди2 їудeйстэмъ. | Then the people of Israel began to write in their instruments and contracts, In the first year of Simon the high priest, the governor and leader of the Jews. |
43
43
S. | In those days Simon camped against Gaza, and besieged it round about; he made also an engine of war, and set it by the city, and battered a certain tower, and took it. |
44
44
| И# вскачaху во грaдъ и5же бsху въ михaнэ, и3 бhсть смzтeніе вeліе въ грaдэ. | And they that were in the engine leaped into the city; whereupon there was a great uproar in the city: |
45
45
| И# взыд0ша и5же бёху во грaдэ съ женaми и3 ч†ды на стёну, растє1рзаны и3мyще ри6зы сво‰, и3 возопи1ша глaсомъ вeліимъ, молsще сjмwна десни1цу и5мъ дaти, | insomuch as the people of the city rent their clothes, and climbed upon the walls with their wives and children, and cried with a loud voice, beseeching Simon to grant them peace. |
46
46
| And they said, Deal not with us according to our wickedness, but according to thy mercy. |
47
47
| И# ўми1лостивисz и5мъ сjмwнъ, не воевA и4хъ, и3 и3згнA и5хъ t грaда: и3 њчи1сти д0мы, въ ни1хже бsху јдwли, и3 тaкw вни1де въ џнь съ пёсньми благословS гDа: | So Simon was appeased toward them, and fought no more against them, but put them out of the city, and cleansed the houses wherein the idols were, and so entered into it with songs and thanksgiving. |
48
48
| Yea, he put all uncleanness out of it, and placed such men there as would keep the law, and made it stronger than it was before, and built therein a dwelling place for himself. |
49
49
| Сyщымъ же t краегрaдіz во їеrли1мэ возбранsшесz и3сходи1ти и3 входи1ти во странY, и3 куповaти и3 продавaти: и3 взалкaша ѕэлw2, и3 мн0зи t ни1хъ глaдомъ погиб0ша. | They also of the tower in Jerusalem were kept so strait, that they could neither come forth, nor go into the country, nor buy, nor sell: wherefore they were in great distress for want of victuals, and a great number of them perished through famine. |
50
50
| И# возопи1ша къ сjмwну десни1цу пріsти, и3 дадE и5мъ, и3 и3згнA и5хъ tтyду и3 њчи1сти краегрaдіе t њсквернeній. | Then cried they to Simon, beseeching him to be at one with them: which thing he granted them; and when he had put them out from thence, he cleansed the tower from pollutions; |
51
51
| И# вни1де въ нE въ двaдесzть трeтій дeнь вторaгw мцcа, лёта сто2 сeдмьдесzтъ пeрвагw съ хвалeніемъ и3 вaіzми, и3 въ гyслехъ и3 кmмвaлэхъ и3 сопёлехъ, и3 въ пёснехъ и3 пёніихъ, ћкw сокруши1сz врaгъ вeлій t ї}лz. | and entered into it the three and twentieth day of the second month, in the hundred seventy and first year, with thanksgiving, and branches of palm trees, and with harps, and cymbals, and with viols, and hymns, and songs: because there was destroyed a great enemy out of Israel. |
52
52
| И# ўстaви на всsкое лёто провождaти дeнь т0й съ весeліемъ, и3 ўтверди2 г0ру свzти1лища, ћже бли1з8 краегрaдіz, и3 всели1сz тY сaмъ и3 и5же съ ни1мъ. | He ordained also that that day should be kept every year with gladness. Moreover the hill of the temple that was by the tower he made stronger than it was, and there he dwelt himself with his company. |
53
53
| И# ви1дэ сjмwнъ їwaнна сhна своего2, ћкw мyжъ є4сть, и3 постaви є3го2 вождA си1лъ всёхъ, и3 всели1сz въ газaрэхъ. | And when Simon saw that John his son was a valiant man, he made him captain of all the hosts; and he dwelt in Gazara. |
