Chapter 3
1
1
| И# востA їyда нарицaемый маккавeй сhнъ є3гw2 вмёстw є3гw2. | Then his son Judas, called Maccabeus, rose up in his stead. |
2
2
| И# помогaху є3мY вси2 брaтіz є3гw2 и3 вси2 є3ли1цы прилэпи1шасz ко nтцY є3гw2, и3 њполчaхусz њполчeніемъ ї}ль съ весeліемъ. | And all his brethren helped him, and so did all they that held with his father, and they fought with cheerfulness the battle of Israel. |
3
3
| И# распространи2 слaву лю1демъ свои6мъ: и3 њблечeсz въ бронS ћкw и3споли1нъ и3 препоsсасz nрyжіемъ свои1мъ брaннымъ, и3 состaви р†ти, защищaz њполчє1ніz мечeмъ свои1мъ, | So he gat his people great honour, and put on a breastplate as a giant, and girt his warlike harness about him, and he made battles, protecting the host with his sword. |
4
4
| и3 ўпод0бисz львY въ дёлэхъ свои1хъ, и3 ћкw скЂменъ рыкaющь въ лови1твэ: | In his acts he was like a lion, and like a lion's whelp roaring for his prey. |
5
5
| и3 погнA беззакHнныz и3зслёдуzй, и3 смущaющихъ лю1ди є3гw2 пожжE плaменемъ. | For he pursued the wicked, and sought them out, and burnt up those that vexed his people. |
6
6
| Wherefore the wicked shrunk for fear of him, and all the workers of iniquity were troubled, because salvation prospered in his hand. |
7
7
| И# њгорчи2 цари6 мнHги и3 возвесели2 їaкwва въ дёлэхъ свои1хъ, и3 дaже до вёка пaмzть є3гw2 во благословeніе: | He grieved also many kings, and made Jacob glad with his acts, and his memorial is blessed for ever. |
8
8
| и3 пр0йде грaды ї{дины, и3 погуби2 нечести1выхъ t ни1хъ, и3 tврати2 гнёвъ t ї}лz, | Moreover he went through the cities of Juda, destroying the ungodly out of them, and turning away wrath from Israel: |
9
9
| и3 и3мени1тъ бhсть дaже до послёднихъ земли2, и3 собрA погибaющихъ. | so that he was renowned unto the utmost part of the earth, and he received unto him such as were ready to perish. |
10
10
| ҐполлHній же собрA kзhки и3 t самарjи си1лу вeлію, є4же рaтовати на ї}лz. | Then Apollonius gathered the Gentiles together, and a great host out of Samaria, to fight against Israel. |
11
11
| Which thing when Judas perceived, he went forth to meet him, and so he smote him, and slew him: many also fell down slain, but the rest fled. |
12
12
6. | Wherefore Judas took their spoils, and Apollonius' sword also, and therewith he fought all his life long. |
13
13
| И# ўслhша сирHнъ начaлникъ в0євъ сЂрскихъ, ћкw собрA їyда совокуплeніе и3 цRковь вёрныхъ съ ни1мъ и3сходsщихъ на брaнь, | Now when Seron, a prince of the army of Syria, heard say that Judas had gathered unto him a multitude and company of the faithful to go out with him to war; |
14
14
| и3 речE: сотворю2 себЁ и4мz, и3 прослaвлюсz въ цaрствіи, и3 поборю2 їyду и3 сyщихъ съ ни1мъ и3 ўничижaющихъ сл0во царeво. | he said, I will get me a name and honour in the kingdom; for I will go fight with Judas and them that are with him, who despise the king's commandment. |
15
15
| So he made him ready to go up, and there went with him a mighty host of the ungodly to help him, and to be avenged of the children of Israel. |
16
16
| И# прибли1жисz дaже до восх0да веfwрHнска: и3 и3зhде їyда во срётеніе є3мY въ мaлэ. | And when he came near to the going up of Bethhoron, Judas went forth to meet him with a small company: |
17
17
| Е#гдa же ўви1дэша п0лкъ грzдyщій во срётеніе и5мъ, рёша їyдэ: кaкw м0жемъ въ мaлэ сyще њполчaтисz проти1ву мн0жества толи1кагw крёпкагw; и3 мы2 ўтруждeни є3смы2 пост0мъ днeсь. | who, when they saw the host coming to meet them, said unto Judas, How shall we be able, being so few, to fight against so great a multitude and so strong, seeing we are ready to faint with fasting all this day? |
18
18
| И# речE їyда: ўд0бь є4сть њб8sти мн0гихъ рук0ю мaлыхъ: и3 нёсть рaзнствіz пред8 бGомъ нбcнымъ спcти2 во мн0гихъ и3ли2 въ мaлыхъ: | Unto whom Judas answered, It is no hard matter for many to be shut up in the hands of a few; and with the God of heaven it is all one, to deliver with a great multitude, or a small company; |
19
19
| ћкw не во мн0жествэ в0євъ њдолёніе брaни є4сть, т0кмw t нб7сE крёпость: | for the victory of battle standeth not in the multitude of an host; but strength cometh from heaven. |
20
20
| сjи грzдyтъ къ нaмъ во мн0жествэ ўкори1зны и3 беззак0ніz, є4же и3ст0ргнути нaсъ и3 жєны2 нaшz и3 ч†да н†ша, є4же взsти коры6сти нaшz, | They come against us in much pride and iniquity to destroy us, and our wives and children, and to spoil us: |
21
21
| мh же њполчaемсz за дyшы нaшz и3 зак0ны нaшz: | but we fight for our lives and our laws. |
22
22
| Wherefore the Lord himself will overthrow them before our face: and as for you, be ye not afraid of them. |
23
23
| Ћкоже престA глаг0лати, и3 наскочи2 на ни1хъ внезaпу, и3 сотрeсz сирHнъ и3 вHи є3гw2 пред8 ни1мъ: | Now as soon as he had left off speaking, he leaped suddenly upon them, and so Seron and his host were overthrown before him. |
24
24
| And they pursued them from the going down of Bethhoron unto the plain, where were slain about eight hundred men of them; and the residue fled into the land of the Philistines. |
25
25
| Then began the fear of Judas and his brethren, and exceeding great dread, to fall upon the nations round about them: |
26
26
| insomuch as his fame came unto the king, and all nations talked of the battles of Judas. |
27
27
| Е#гдa же ўслhша цaрь ґнті0хъ словесA сі‰, разгнёвасz ћростію, и3 послaвъ собрA си6лы вс‰ цaрства своегw2, п0лкъ крёпокъ ѕэлw2: | Now when king Antiochus heard these things, he was full of indignation: wherefore he sent and gathered together all the forces of his realm, even a very strong army. |
28
28
| He opened also his treasure, and gave his soldiers pay for a year, commanding them to be ready whensoever he should need them. |
29
29
| И# ви1дэ, ћкw њскудЁ сребро2 t сокр0вищъ, и3 д†ни t стрaнъ м†лы, рaди несоглaсіz и3 ћзвы, ±же сотвори2 на земли2, да в0зметъ закHннаz, ±же бsху t пeрвыхъ днjй. | Nevertheless, when he saw that the money of his treasures failed, and that the tributes in the country were small, because of the dissension and plague, which he had brought upon the land in taking away the laws which had been of old time; |
30
30
| И# ўстраши1сz, да не вознеимёетъ є3ди1ною и3 двaжды въ росх0ды и3 да‰ніz, ±же даsше прeжде прострaнною рук0ю, и3 и3збhточествова пaче царeй бhвшихъ прeжде. | he feared that he should not be able to bear the charges any longer, nor to have such gifts to give so liberally as he did before: for he had abounded above the kings that were before him. |
31
31
| И# смzтeсz душeю своeю ѕэлw2, и3 ўмhсли и3ти2 въ персjду и3 пріsти д†ни t стрaнъ и3 собрaти сребрA мн0гw. | Wherefore, being greatly perplexed in his mind, he determined to go into Persia, there to take the tributes of the countries, and to gather much money. |
32
32
| И# њстaви лmсjю человёка слaвна и3 t р0да цaрска над8 вещьми2 цaрскими, t рэки2 є3vфрaта дaже до предBлъ є3гЂпетскихъ: | So he left Lysias, a nobleman, and one of the blood royal, to oversee the affairs of the king from the river Euphrates unto the borders of Egypt: |
33
33
| and to bring up his son Antiochus, until he came again. |
34
34
| И# предадE є3мY п0лъ си1лы и3 слонHвъ и3 заповёда є3мY њ всёхъ, и4хже совэщA, и3 њ њбитaющихъ во їудeи и3 їеrли1мэ, | Moreover he delivered unto him the half of his forces, and the elephants, and gave him charge of all things that he would have done, as also concerning them that dwelt in Juda and Jerusalem; |
35
35
| послaти на ни1хъ си1лу, є4же сокруши1ти и3 и3ст0ргнути крёпость ї}леву и3 њстaнокъ їеrли1ма, и3 tsти пaмzть и4хъ t мёста, | to wit, that he should send an army against them, to destroy and root out the strength of Israel, and the remnant of Jerusalem, and to take away their memorial from that place; |
36
36
| and that he should place strangers in all their quarters, and divide their land by lot. |
37
37
| И# цaрь взS п0лъ си1лы њстaвшихъ и3 и3зhде t ґнтіохjи t грaда цaрства своегw2, лёта сто2 четhредесzть седмaгw: и3 прeйде є3vфрaтъ рэкY и3 прохождaше въ вы6шніz страны6. | So the king took the half of the forces that remained, and departed from Antioch, his royal city, the hundred forty and seventh year; and he passed the river Euphrates, and went through the high countries. |
38
38
| Then Lysias chose Ptolemee the son of Dorymenes, and Nicanor, and Gorgias, mighty men of the king's friends: |
39
39
| and with them he sent forty thousand footmen, and seven thousand horsemen, to go into the land of Juda, and to destroy it, as the king commanded. |
40
40
| So they went forth with all their power, and came and pitched by Emmaus in the plain country. |
41
41
| And the merchants of the country, hearing the fame of them, took silver and gold very much, with servants, and came into the camp to buy the children of Israel for slaves: a power also of Syria and of the land of the Philistines joined themselves unto them. |
42
42
| И# ви1дэ їyда и3 брaтіz є3гw2, ћкw ўмн0жишасz ѕл†z, и3 вHи њполчaхусz въ предёлэхъ и4хъ: и3 познaша словесA царє1ва, ±же повелЁ лю1демъ сотвори1ти въ погублeніе и3 скончaніе. | Now when Judas and his brethren saw that miseries were multiplied, and that the forces did encamp themselves in their borders; for they knew how the king had given commandment to destroy the people, and utterly abolish them; |
43
43
| И# речE кjйждо ко и4скреннему своемY: востaнемъ за и3стреблeніе людjй нaшихъ и3 њполчи1мсz за лю1ди нaшz и3 с™ы6z. | they said one to another, Let us restore the decayed estate of our people, and let us fight for our people and the sanctuary. |
44
44
| Then the congregation gathered together, that they might be ready for battle, and that they might pray, and ask mercy and compassion. |
45
45
| И# їеrли1мъ бЁ неwбитaемь ѓки пустhнz: не бЁ входsй и3 и3сходsй t порождeній є3гw2, и3 с™hнz попрaна, и3 сhнове и3нор0дныхъ въ краегрaдіи, бhсть њбитaлище kзhкwмъ: и3 взsсz весeліе t їaкwва, и3 њскудЁ (тY) сопёль и3 гyсли. | Now Jerusalem was laid void as a wilderness, there was none of her children that went in or out: the sanctuary also was trodden down, and aliens kept the strong hold; the heathen had their habitation in that place; and joy was taken from Jacob, and the pipe with the harp ceased. |
46
46
| Wherefore the Israelites assembled themselves together, and came to Maspha, over against Jerusalem; for in Maspha was the place where they prayed aforetime in Israel. |
47
47
| И# пости1шасz тогw2 днE, и3 њблек0шасz во врє1тища, и3 пeпелъ посhпаша на главы6 сво‰, и3 растерзaша њдэ‰ніz сво‰, | Then they fasted that day, and put on sackcloth, and cast ashes upon their heads, and rent their clothes, |
48
48
| и3 распростр0ша кни1гу зак0на, њ ни1хже и3спытaху kзhцы написaти на ни1хъ подHбіz јдwлъ свои1хъ, | and laid open the book of the law, wherein the heathen had sought to paint the likeness of their images. |
49
49
6, | They brought also the priest's garments, and the firstfruits, and the tithes: and the Nazarites they stirred up, who had accomplished their days. |
50
50
| и3 возопи1ша глaсомъ (вeліимъ) на нб7о, рекyще: что2 сотвори1мъ си6мъ и3 кaмw и5хъ tведeмъ; | Then cried they with a loud voice toward heaven, saying, What shall we do with these, and whither shall we carry them away? |
51
51
| и3 с™†z тво‰ попрaшасz и3 њскверни1шасz, и3 свzщeнницы твои2 въ ск0рби и3 въ смирeніи: | For thy sanctuary is trodden down and profaned, and thy priests are in heaviness, and brought low. |
52
52
| и3 сE, kзhцы собрaшасz на ны2, да раст0ргнутъ нaсъ: ты2 вёси, ±же помышлsютъ на нaсъ: | And, lo, the heathen are assembled together against us to destroy us: what things they imagine against us, thou knowest. |
53
53
| кaкw возм0жемъ стaти пред8 лицeмъ и4хъ, ѓще не ты2 пом0жеши нaмъ; | How shall we be able to stand against them, except thou, O God, be our help? |
54
54
| Then sounded they with trumpets, and cried with a loud voice. |
55
55
| And after this Judas ordained captains over the people, even captains over thousands, and over hundreds, and over fifties, and over tens. |
56
56
| But as for such as were building houses, or had betrothed wives, or were planting vineyards, or were fearful, those he commanded that they should return, every man to his own house, according to the law. |
57
57
| So the camp removed, and pitched upon the south side of Emmaus. |
58
58
| И# речE їyда: препоsшитесz, и3 бyдите въ сhны си6льны, и3 бyдите гот0ви въ заyтріе њполчи1тисz на kзhки сі‰, и5же собрaшасz на ны2 растерзaти нaсъ и3 с™†z н†ша: | And Judas said, Arm yourselves, and be valiant men, and see that ye be in readiness against the morning, that ye may fight with these nations, that are assembled together against us to destroy us and our sanctuary: |
59
59
| ћкw лyчше є4сть нaмъ ўмрeти въ брaни, нeже ви1дэти ѕл†z людjй нaшихъ и3 с™hхъ: | for it is better for us to die in battle, than to behold the calamities of our people and our sanctuary. |
60
60
| Nevertheless, as the will of God is in heaven, so let him do. |
