1
| И# взS горгjа пsть тhсzщъ мужeй и3 тhсzщу кHнникъ и3збрaнныхъ, и3 подвиг0ша п0лкъ н0щію, | Then took Gorgias five thousand footmen, and a thousand of the best horsemen, and removed out of the camp by night; |
2
2
| є4же напaсти на п0лкъ їудeйскій и3 поби1ти и5хъ внезaпу, и3 сhнове краегрaдіz бhша є3мY вождeве. | to the end he might rush in upon the camp of the Jews, and smite them suddenly. And the men of the fortress were his guides. |
3
3
| И# ўслhша їyда, и3 востA сaмъ и3 си1льніи, поби1ти си1лу царeву, ћже въ є3ммаyмэ: | Now when Judas heard thereof, he himself removed, and the valiant men with him, that he might smite the king's army which was at Emmaus, |
4
4
A. | while as yet the forces were dispersed from the camp. |
5
5
| И# пріи1де горгjа въ п0лкъ їyдинъ н0щію и3 ни є3ди1нагw њбрёте: и3 и3скaше и5хъ въ горaхъ, понeже речE: бэжaтъ сjи t нaсъ. | In the mean season came Gorgias by night into the camp of Judas: and when he found no man there, he sought them in the mountains: for he said, These fellows flee from us. |
6
6
| But as soon as it was day, Judas shewed himself in the plain with three thousand men, who nevertheless had neither armour nor swords to their minds. |
7
7
| And they saw the camp of the heathen, that it was strong and well harnessed, and compassed round about with horsemen; and these were expert of war. |
8
8
| И# речE їyда мужє1мъ, и5же съ ни1мъ бsху: не ўб0йтесz мн0жества и4хъ и3 ўстремлeніz и4хъ не ўжасaйтесz: | Then said Judas to the men that were with him, Fear ye not their multitude, neither be ye afraid of their assault. |
9
9
| помzни1те, кaкw спасeни бhша nтцы2 нaши въ м0ри чермнёмъ, є3гдA гонsше и5хъ фараHнъ съ вHи мн0гими: | Remember how our fathers were delivered in the Red sea, when Pharaoh pursued them with an army. |
10
10
| и3 нн7э возопjимъ на нб7о, нeгли кaкw ўмлcрдитсz на ны2 и3 помzнeтъ завётъ nтцє1въ нaшихъ и3 сокруши1тъ п0лкъ сeй пред8 лицeмъ нaшимъ днeсь: | Now therefore let us cry unto heaven, if peradventure the Lord will have mercy upon us, and remember the covenant of our fathers, and destroy this host before our face this day: |
11
11
| that so all the heathen may know that there is one who delivereth and saveth Israel. |
12
12
| И# возвед0ша и3ноплемє1нницы џчи свои2 и3 ви1дэша и5хъ грzдyщихъ сопроти1ву, | Then the strangers lifted up their eyes, and saw them coming over against them. |
13
13
| Wherefore they went out of the camp to battle; but they that were with Judas sounded their trumpets. |
14
14
| И# срази1шасz: и3 сотрeни бhша kзhцы и3 побэг0ша въ п0ле, | So they joined battle, and the heathen being discomfited, fled into the plain. |
15
15
| послёдніи же вси2 пад0ша мечeмъ: и3 прогнaша и5хъ дaже до ґссарімHfа и3 дaже до п0ль їдумeйскихъ и3 ґзHтскихъ и3 їамнjйскихъ, и3 пад0ша t ни1хъ до тріeхъ тhсzщъ мужeй. | Howbeit all the hindmost of them were slain with the sword: for they pursued them unto Gazera, and unto the plains of Idumea, and Azotus, and Jamnia, so that there were slain of them as many as three thousand men. |
16
16
| И# возврати1сz їyда и3 вHи є3гw2 t гонeніz в8слёдъ и4хъ, | This done, Judas returned again with his host from pursuing them, |
17
17
| и3 речE къ лю1демъ: не вожделёйте корhстей, понeже брaнь проти1ву нaсъ: | and said to the people, Be not greedy of the spoils, inasmuch as there is a battle before us, |
18
18
| and Gorgias and his host are here by us in the mountain: but stand ye now against our enemies, and overcome them, and after this ye may boldly take the spoils. |
19
19
| И# є3щE глаг0лющу їyдэ сі‰, сE, kви1сz чaсть нёкаz приницaющаz съ горы2. | As Judas was yet speaking these words, there appeared a part of them looking out of the mountain: |
20
20
| who when they perceived that the Jews had put their host to flight, and were burning the tents; for the smoke that was seen declared what was done: |
21
21
| when therefore they perceived these things, they were sore afraid, and seeing also the host of Judas in the plain ready to fight, |
22
22
| И# њбрати1сz їyда на кwрhсти њполчeніz: | they fled every one into the land of strangers. |
23
23
| и3 взS злaта мн0гw и3 сребрA, и3 v3акjнfа и3 порфЂры морскjz, и3 бог†тства вели6ка. | Then Judas returned to spoil the tents, where they got much gold, and silver, and blue silk, and purple of the sea, and great riches. |
24
24
| After this they went home, and sung a song of thanksgiving, and praised the Lord in heaven: because it is good, because his mercy endureth for ever. |
25
25
| Thus Israel had a great deliverance that day. |
26
26
| Now all the strangers that had escaped came and told Lysias what had happened: |
27
27
| Џнъ же слhшавъ ўны2 душeю и3 њпечaлисz, ћкw не ±же хотsше, такwвA бhша ї}лю, и3 не какwвA заповёда є3мY цaрь, сицев†z сбhшасz. | who, when he heard thereof, was confounded and discouraged, because neither such things as he would were done unto Israel, nor such things as the king commanded him were come to pass. |
28
28
| In the following year therefore, Lysias gathered together threescore thousand choice men of foot, and five thousand horsemen, that he might subdue them. |
29
29
| So they came into Idumea, and pitched their tents at Bethsura, and Judas met them with ten thousand men. |
30
30
| И# ви1дэ п0лкъ крёпокъ, и3 помоли1сz, и3 речE: блгcвeнъ є3си2, спcсе ї}левъ, сокруши1вый стремлeніе си1льнагw рук0ю рабA твоегw2 давjда, и3 прeдалъ є3си2 п0лкъ и3ноплемeнныхъ въ рyки їwнаfaна сhна саyлz и3 носsщагw nрyжіе є3гw2: | And when he saw that mighty army, he prayed and said, Blessed art thou, O Saviour of Israel, who didst quell the violence of the mighty man by the hand of thy servant David, and gavest the host of strangers into the hands of Jonathan the son of Saul, and his armour-bearer; |
31
31
| заключи2 п0лкъ сeй рук0ю людjй твои1хъ ї}лz, и3 да постыдsтсz њ си1лэ и3 к0нницэ своeй: | shut up this army in the hand of thy people Israel, and let them be confounded in their power and horsemen: |
32
32
| дaждь и5мъ боsзнь и3 растaй дeрзость си1лы и4хъ, и3 да поколeблютсz сотрeніемъ свои1мъ: | make them to be of no courage, and cause the boldness of their strength to fall away, and let them quake at their destruction: |
33
33
| cast them down with the sword of them that love thee, and let all those that know thy name praise thee with thanksgiving. |
34
34
| И# состaвиша брaнь, и3 пад0ша t полкA лmсjи до пzти2 тhсzщъ мужeй, и3 пад0ша пред8 ни1ми. | So they joined battle; and there were slain of the host of Lysias about five thousand men, even before them were they slain. |
35
35
| Ви1дz же лmсjа своегw2 њполчeніz бhвшее бэжaніе, ґ їyдину бhвшую дeрзость, и3 ћкw гот0ви сyть и3ли2 жи1ти, и3ли2 ўмрeти хрaбрw, tи1де во ґнтіохjю и3 собирaше чужди1хъ в0євъ: и3 ўмн0живъ бhвшее в0инство, ўмhсли пaки пріити2 на їудeю. | Now when Lysias saw his army put to flight, and the manliness of Judas' soldiers, and how they were ready either to live or die valiantly, he went into Antiochia, and gathered together a company of strangers, and having made his army greater than it was, he purposed to come again into Judea. |
36
36
| Речe же їyда и3 брaтіz є3гw2: сE, сотрeни сyть врази2 нaши, взhдемъ нн7э њчи1стити с™†z и3 њбнови1ти. | Then said Judas and his brethren, Behold, our enemies are discomfited: let us go up to cleanse and dedicate the sanctuary. |
37
37
| И# собрaсz вeсь п0лкъ и3 взыд0ша на г0ру сіHнъ: | Upon this all the host assembled themselves together, and went up into mount Sion. |
38
38
| And when they saw the sanctuary desolate, and the altar profaned, and the gates burned up, and shrubs growing in the courts as in a forest, or in one of the mountains, yea, and the priests' chambers pulled down; |
39
39
| И# растерзaша ри6зы сво‰ и3 плaкаша плaчемъ вeліимъ, и3 возложи1ша пeпелъ на главы6 сво‰, | they rent their clothes, and made great lamentation, and cast ashes upon their heads, |
40
40
| and fell down flat to the ground upon their faces, and blew an alarm with the trumpets, and cried toward heaven. |
41
41
| ТогдA повелЁ їyда мужє1мъ рaтовати сyщихъ въ краегрaдіи, д0ндеже њчи1ститъ с™†z. | Then Judas appointed certain men to fight against those that were in the fortress, until he had cleansed the sanctuary. |
42
42
| И# и3збрA свzщeнники непорHчны воли1тєли зак0на б9іz: | So he chose priests of blameless conversation, such as had pleasure in the law: |
43
43
| и3 њчи1стиша с™†z и3 tверг0ша кaменіе њсквернeніz въ мёсто нечи1сто: | who cleansed the sanctuary, and bare out the defiled stones into an unclean place. |
44
44
| и3 совётоваша њ жeртвенницэ всесожжeніz њсквернeнэмъ, что2 є3мY сотворsтъ: | And when as they consulted what to do with the altar of burnt offerings, which was profaned; |
45
45
и3 разори1ша жeртвенникъ, | they thought it best to pull it down, lest it should be a reproach to them, because the heathen had defiled it: wherefore they pulled it down, |
46
46
| и3 положи1ша кaменіе на горЁ хрaма на мёстэ прили1чнэмъ, д0ндеже пріи1детъ прbр0къ tвэщaти њ ни1хъ: | and laid up the stones in the mountain of the temple in a convenient place, until there should come a prophet to shew what should be done with them. |
47
47
| Then they took whole stones according to the law, and built a new altar according to the former; |
48
48
| И# создaша с™†z и3 вс‰ ±же внyтрь хрaма, и3 притв0ры њсвzти1ша, | and made up the sanctuary, and the things that were within the temple, and hallowed the courts. |
49
49
| и3 сотвори1ша сосyды с™ы6z нHвы, и3 внес0ша свэти1лникъ и3 жeртвенникъ всесожжeній и3 fmміaмwвъ и3 трапeзу во хрaмъ, | They made also new holy vessels, and into the temple they brought the candlestick, and the altar of incense, and the table. |
50
50
| и3 кади1ша на жeртвенницэ, и3 возжг0ша свэти1лники, ±же на подсвёщницэ, и3 свэтsху во хрaмэ, | And upon the altar they burned incense, and the lamps that were upon the candlestick they lighted, that they might give light in the temple. |
51
51
| Furthermore they set the loaves upon the table, and spread out the veils, and finished all the works which they had begun to make. |
52
52
| И# ѕэлw2 рaнw востaша въ пsтый и3 двадесsтый дeнь мцcа девsтагw: сeй мцcъ хаслevъ, сто2 четhредесzть nсмaгw лёта. | Now on the five and twentieth day of the ninth month, which is called the month Casleu, in the hundred forty and eighth year, they rose up betimes in the morning, |
53
53
| И# принес0ша жeртву по зак0ну на nлтaрь всесожжeній н0вый, є3г0же сотвори1ша: | and offered sacrifice according to the law upon the new altar of burnt offerings, which they had made. |
54
54
| At what time and day the heathen had profaned it, even in that was it dedicated with songs, and citherns, and harps, and cymbals. |
55
55
| И# пад0ша вси2 лю1діе на лицE своE и3 поклони1шасz, и3 благослови1ша на нб7о бlгопоспэши1вшаго и5мъ: | Then all the people fell upon their faces, worshipping and praising the God of heaven, who had given them good success. |
56
56
| и3 сотвори1ша њбновлeніе nлтарS днjй џсмь, и3 принес0ша всесожжє1ніz съ весeліемъ, и3 пожр0ша жeртву спасeніz и3 хвалeніz, | And so they kept the dedication of the altar eight days, and offered burnt offerings with gladness, and sacrificed the sacrifice of deliverance and praise. |
57
57
| и3 ўкраси1ша сyщее пред8 лицeмъ хрaма вэнцы6 златhми и3 щитaми, и3 њбнови1ша вратA и3 пастофHріа, и3 постaвиша двє1ри. | They decked also the forefront of the temple with crowns of gold and with shields; and the gates and the chambers they renewed, and hanged doors upon them. |
58
58
| Thus was there very great gladness among the people, for that the reproach of the heathen was put away. |
59
59
| И# ўстaви їyда и3 брaтіz є3гw2 и3 вeсь соб0ръ ї}левъ, да прaзднуютсz днjе њбновлeніz nлтарS во временA сво‰ на всsко лёто днjй џсмь, t двaдесzть пsтагw днE мцcа хаслevъ съ весeліемъ и3 рaдостію. | Moreover Judas and his brethren with the whole congregation of Israel ordained, that the days of the dedication of the altar should be kept in their season from year to year by the space of eight days, from the five and twentieth day of the month Casleu, with mirth and gladness. |
60
60
| At that time also they builded up the mount Sion with high walls and strong towers round about, lest the Gentiles should come and tread it down, as they had done before. |
61
61
| And they set there a garrison to keep it, and fortified Bethsura to preserve it; that the people might have a defence against Idumea. |
