И# цaрь ґнті0хъ прохождaше вы6шніz страны6 и3 слhша, ћкw є4сть є3лmмаjсъ въ персjдэ грaдъ слaвенъ богaтствомъ, сребр0мъ и3 злaтомъ,	About that time king Antiochus travelling through the high countries heard say, that Elymais in the country of Persia was a city greatly renowned for riches, silver, and gold;

и3 хрaмъ въ нeмъ богaтъ ѕэлw2, и3 тY запHны зл†ты, и3 брwнS и3 nр{жіz, ±же њстaви тY ґлеxaндръ сhнъ філjпповъ, цaрь македHнскій, и4же цaрствова пeрвый во є4ллинэхъ.	and that there was in it a very rich temple, wherein were coverings of gold, and breastplates, and shields, which Alexander, son of Philip, the Macedonian king, who reigned first among the Grecians, had left there:

И# пріи1де и3 и3скaше взsти грaдъ и3 плэни1ти є3го2, и3 не возм0же, ћкw познaсz сл0во сyщымъ во грaдэ.	wherefore he came and sought to take the city, and to spoil it; but he was not able, because they of the city, having had warning thereof,

И# востaша проти1ву є3мY на брaнь, и3 побэжE tтyду, и3 и4де со ск0рбію вeліею, и3 возврати1сz въ вавmлHнъ.	rose up against him in battle: so he fled, and departed thence with great heaviness, and returned to Babylon.

И# пріи1де возвэщazй є3мY нёкто въ персjду, ћкw tбэг0ша полцы2 ходи1вшіи во їудeю.	Moreover there came one who brought him tidings into Persia, that the armies, which went against the land of Judea, were put to flight:

И# ходи2 лmсjа съ си1лою крёпкою въ пeрвыхъ, и3 прогнaнъ бhсть t лицA и4хъ, и3 возмог0ша nрyжіzми и3 си1лами и3 корhстьми мн0гими, ±же взsша t полкHвъ, и5хже и3зби1ша.	and that Lysias, who went forth first with a great power, was driven away of the Jews; and that they were made strong by the armour, and power, and store of spoils, which they had gotten of the armies, whom they had destroyed:

И# разори1ша мeрзость, ю4же создA на nлтари2 во їеrли1мэ, и3 с™hню, ћкоже прeжде њкружи1ша стэнaми выс0кими, и3 веfсyру грaдъ є3гw2.	also that they had pulled down the abomination, which he had set up upon the altar in Jerusalem, and that they had compassed about the sanctuary with high walls, as before, and his city Bethsura.

И# бhсть ћкw ўслhша цaрь словесA сі‰, ўстраши1сz и3 смути1сz ѕэлw2: и3 падE на л0же и3 впадE въ недyгъ t печaли, понeже не сбhстсz є3мY, ћкоже помышлsше.	Now when the king heard these words, he was astonished and sore moved: whereupon he laid him down upon his bed, and fell sick for grief, because it had not befallen him as he looked for.

И# бЁ тY дни6 мнHги, понeже њбнови1сz на нeмъ печaль вели1ка, и3 мнsше, ћкw ќмретъ.	And there he continued many days: for his grief was ever more and more, and he made account that he should die.

И# созвA вс‰ дрyги сво‰ и3 речE и5мъ: tи1де с0нъ t џчію моє1ю, и3 и3спад0хъ сeрдцемъ t печaли,	Wherefore he called for all his friends, and said unto them, The sleep is gone from mine eyes, and my heart faileth for very care.

и3 рёхъ въ сeрдцы моeмъ: до коли1кіz ск0рби доид0хъ и3 волны2 вeліz, въ нeйже нн7э є4смь; ћкw блaгъ и3 люби1мь бhхъ во влaсти моeй:	And I thought with myself, Into what tribulation am I come, and how great a flood of misery is it wherein now I am! for I was bountiful and beloved in my power.

нн7э же поминaю ѕл†z, ±же сотвори1хъ во їеrли1мэ, и3 взsхъ вс‰ сосyды зл†ты и3 срє1брzны въ нeмъ, и3 послaхъ и3з8sти њбитaющихъ во їудeи вотщE:	But now I remember the evils that I did at Jerusalem, and that I took all the vessels of gold and silver that were therein, and sent to destroy the inhabitants of Judea without a cause.

познaхъ u5бо, ћкw си1хъ рaди њбрэт0ша мS ѕл†z сі‰: и3 сE, ги1бну ск0рбію вeліею въ земли2 чуждeй.	I perceive therefore that for this cause these troubles are come upon me, and, behold, I perish through great grief in a strange land.

И# призвA філjппа є3ди1наго t другHвъ свои1хъ, и3 постaви є3го2 над8 всёмъ цaрствомъ свои1мъ,	Then called he for Philip, one of his friends, whom he made ruler over all his realm.

и3 дадE є3мY діади1му и3 ри1зу свою2 и3 пeрстень, є4же води1ти ґнті0ха сhна є3гw2 и3 воспитaти є3го2 є4же цaрствовати.	And gave him the crown, and his robe, and his signet, to the end he should bring up his son Antiochus, and nourish him up for the kingdom.

И# ќмре тaмw ґнті0хъ цaрь въ лёто сто2 четhредесzть девsтое.	So king Antiochus died there in the hundred forty and ninth year.

И# познA лmсjа, ћкw ќмре цaрь. и3 постaви цaрствовати ґнті0ха сhна є3гw2 вмёстw є3гw2, є3г0же воспитA ю4ношу, и3 наречE и4мz є3мY є3vпaтwръ.	Now when Lysias knew that the king was dead, he set up Antiochus his son, whom he had brought up being young, to reign in his stead, and his name he called Eupator.

И# сyщіи во краегрaдіи заключи1ша ї}лz w4крестъ с™hхъ и3 и3скaху и5мъ ѕл†z всегдA и3 ўтверждeніе kзhкwмъ.	About this time they that were in the tower shut up the Israelites round about the sanctuary, and sought always their hurt, and the strengthening of the heathen.

И# ўмhсли їyда и3згнaти и5хъ: и3 созвA вс‰ лю1ди, да њбстоsтъ и5хъ.	Wherefore Judas, purposing to destroy them, called all the people together to besiege them.
20	20
И# собрaшасz вкyпэ и3 њбсэд0ша и5хъ въ лёто сто2 пzтьдесsтое, и3 сотвори2 на ни1хъ стрэлостоsтєлницы и3 мих†ны.	So they came together, and besieged them in the hundred and fiftieth year, and he made mounts for shot against them, and other engines.

И# и3зыд0ша t ни1хъ и3з8 заключeніz, и3 прилэпи1шасz тBмъ нёцыи нечести1віи t ї}лz,	Howbeit certain of them that were besieged got forth, unto whom some ungodly men of Israel joined themselves:

и3 и3д0ша ко царю2 и3 рёша: док0лэ не сотвори1ши судA и3 tмсти1ши брaтію нaшу;	and they went unto the king, and said, How long will it be ere thou execute judgment, and avenge our brethren?

мы2 благоволи1мъ служи1ти nтцY твоемY и3 ходи1ти въ зaповэдехъ є3гw2 и3 послёдовати повелёніємъ є3гw2:	We have been willing to serve thy father, and to do as he would have us, and to obey his commandments;

и3 њблежeни сyть во краегрaдіи сhнове людjй нaшихъ, сегw2 рaди и3 tчуждaютсz t нaсъ: и3 є3ли1цы њбрэтaхусz t нaсъ, погублsхусz, и3 наслBдіz н†ша расхищaєма бsху:	for which cause they of our nation besiege the tower, and are alienated from us: moreover as many of us as they could light on they slew, and spoiled our inheritance.

и3 не на нaсъ т0кмw простр0ша рyку, но и3 на вс‰ предёлы нaшz:	Neither have they stretched out their hand against us only, but also against all their borders.

и3 сE, њполчи1шасz днeсь на краегрaдіе во їеrли1мэ, є4же взsти є3го2 и3 с™hню, и3 веfсyру ўтверди1ша:	And, behold, this day are they besieging the tower at Jerusalem, to take it: the sanctuary also and Bethsura have they fortified.

и3 ѓще не предвари1ши и5хъ скорёе, бHлшаz си1хъ сотворsтъ, и3 не возм0жеши ўдержaти и5хъ.	Wherefore if thou dost not prevent them quickly, they will do greater things than these, neither shalt thou be able to rule them.

И# прогнёвасz цaрь, є3гдA ўслhша, и3 собрA вс‰ дрyги сво‰ и3 начaлники си1лы своеS и3 и5же над8 кHнники:	Now when the king heard this, he was angry, and gathered together all his friends, and the captains of his army, and those that had charge of the horse.

и3 t цaрствъ и3нhхъ и3 t nстровHвъ морски1хъ пріид0ша къ немY си6лы нає1мницы:	There came also unto him from other kingdoms, and from isles of the sea, bands of hired soldiers.

и3 бhсть число2 си1лъ є3гw2 сто2 тhсzщъ пэшцє1въ и3 двaдесzть тhсzщъ к0нникwвъ, и3 слонHвъ три1десzть двA вёдzщихъ брaнь.	So that the number of his army was an hundred thousand footmen, and twenty thousand horsemen, and two and thirty elephants exercised in battle.

И# пріид0ша сквозЁ їдумeю и3 њполчи1шасz въ веfсyрэ, и3 рaтоваху дни6 мнHги и3 сотвори1ша мих†ны: и3 и3зыд0ша и3 пожг0ша и5хъ nгнeмъ и3 би1шасz мyжественнэ.	These went through Idumea, and pitched against Bethsura, which they assaulted many days, making engines; but they of Bethsura came out, and burned them with fire, and fought valiantly.

И# tи1де їyда t краегрaдіz и3 њполчи1сz въ веfсахaріи проти1ву полкA царeва.	Upon this Judas removed from the tower, and pitched in Bethzacharias, over against the king's camp.

И# востA цaрь ѕэлw2 рaнw и3 воздви1же њполчeніе во ўстремлeніи є3гw2 по пути2 веfсахaріи: и3 ўстр0ишасz си6лы на брaнь, и3 воструби1ша трубaми,	Then the king rising very early marched fiercely with his host toward Bethzacharias, where his armies made them ready to battle, and sounded the trumpets.

и3 слонHмъ показaша кр0вь гр0здову и3 ћгwды, є4же поwстри1ти и5хъ на брaнь:	And to the end they might provoke the elephants to fight, they shewed them the blood of grapes and mulberries.

и3 разлучи1ша ѕвэрeй на полки2 и3 пристaвиша коемyждо слонY тhсzщу мужeй њблечeнныхъ въ брwнS желёзомъ соплетє1ны, и3 шлeмы мёдzни на главaхъ и4хъ, и3 пsть сHтъ к0нникwвъ вчинeныхъ коемyждо ѕвёрю и3збрaнныхъ.	Moreover they divided the beasts among the armies, and for every elephant they appointed a thousand men, armed with coats of mail, and with helmets of brass on their heads; and beside this, for every beast were ordained five hundred horsemen of the best.

Сі‰ бёша прeжде врeмене, и3дёже ѓще бЁ ѕвёрь: и3 и3дёже ѓще и3дsше, и3дsху вкyпэ и3 не tступaху t негw2.	These were ready at every occasion: wheresoever the beast was, and whithersoever the beast went, they went also, neither departed they from him.

И# пЂрги древsни на ни1хъ крёпцы защищaющіи на к0емждо ѕвёри, препоsсани на нeмъ михaнами, и3 на к0емждо мужeй си1лы три1десzть двA вою1ющихъ на ни1хъ, и3 їндjанинъ ўправи1тель є3гw2.	And upon the beasts were there strong towers of wood, which covered every one of them, and were girt fast unto them with devices: there were also upon every one two and thirty strong men, that fought upon them, beside the Indian that ruled him.

И# пр0чыz к0нники сю1ду и3 сю1ду постaвиша на двЁ ч†сти полкA, побуждaюще и3 заграждaюще въ дeбрехъ.	As for the remnant of the horsemen, they set them on this side and that side at the two parts of the host, giving them signs what to do, and being harnessed all over amidst the ranks.

Е#гдa же возсіS с0лнце на щиты2 златы6z и3 мBдzныz, њбсіsша г0ры t ни1хъ и3 њблистaша ћкw ламп†ды џгнєнныz.	Now when the sun shone upon the shields of gold and brass, the mountains glistered therewith, and shined like lamps of fire.

И# tлучи1сz чaсть нёкаz t полкA царeва на г0ры высHки, и3 нёцыи на ни6жшаz, и3 и3дsху крёпцэ и3 чи1ннw.	So part of the king's army being spread upon the high mountains, and part on the valleys below, they marched on safely and in order.
41	41
И# поколебaшасz вси2 слhшащіи глaсъ мн0жества и4хъ, и3 путьшeствіz мн0гихъ, и3 сражeніz nрyжій: бё бо њполчeніе вели1ко ѕэлw2 и3 крёпко.	Wherefore all that heard the noise of their multitude, and the marching of the company, and the rattling of the harness, were moved: for the army was very great and mighty.

И# прибли1жисz їyда и3 п0лкъ є3гw2 на брaнь, и3 пад0ша t полкA царeва шeсть сHтъ мужeй.	Then Judas and his host drew near, and entered into battle, and there were slain of the king's army six hundred men.

И# ўви1дэ є3леазaръ сhнъ саварaнь є3ди1наго t ѕвэрeй њблечeна въ броню2 цaрску, и3 бsше вhше пр0чіихъ ѕвэрeй, и3 возмнёсz є3мY, ћкw на нeмъ є4сть цaрь:	Eleazar also, surnamed Savaran, perceiving that one of the beasts, armed with royal harness, was higher than all the rest, and supposing that the king was upon him,

и3 вдадeсz сaмъ є4же и3збaвити лю1ди сво‰ и3 сотвори1ти себЁ и4мz вёчное,	put himself in jeopardy, to the end he might deliver his people, and get him a perpetual name:

и3 течE къ немY съ дeрзостію въ среди1ну полкA, и3 побивaше њдеснyю и3 њшyюю, и3 раздэлsхусz t негw2 сю1ду и3 сю1ду:	wherefore he ran upon him courageously through the midst of the battle, slaying on the right hand and on the left, so that they were divided from him on both sides.

и3 вни1де под8 слонA, и3 подложи1сz є3мY, и3 ўби2 є3го2, и3 падE на зeмлю верхY є3гw2, и3 ќмре тY.	Which done, he crept under the elephant, and thrust him under, and slew him: whereupon the elephant fell down upon him, and there he died.

И# ви1дэша си1лу цaрства и3 ўстремлeніе в0євъ, и3 ўклони1шасz t ни1хъ.	Howbeit the rest of the Jews seeing the strength of the king, and the violence of his forces, turned away from them.

Сyщіи же t полкA царeва взыд0ша проти1ву и4хъ на їеrли1мъ: и3 њполчи1сz цaрь на їудeю и3 на г0ру сіHнъ.	Then the king's army went up to Jerusalem to meet them, and the king pitched his tents against Judea, and against mount Sion.

И# сотвори2 ми1ръ съ сyщими въ веfсyрэхъ: и3 и3зыд0ша и3з8 грaда, ћкw не бЁ и5мъ тaмw пи1щи, є4же затвори1тисz въ нeмъ, понeже суббHта бsше земли2.	But with them that were in Bethsura he made peace: for they came out of the city, because they had no victuals there to endure the siege, it being a year of rest to the land.

И# взS цaрь веfсyру и3 постaви тY стрaжу храни1ти ю5.	So the king took Bethsura, and set a garrison there to keep it.

И# њполчи1сz на мёсто с™hни дни6 мнHги, и3 постaви тY стрэлостоsтєлницы и3 мих†ны, и3 nгнемє1тницы и3 каменомє1тницы и3 скорпіHны, є4же бы метaти стрёлы и3 прaщы.	As for the sanctuary, he besieged it many days: and set there artillery with engines and instruments to cast fire and stones, and pieces to cast darts and slings.

Сотвори1ша же и3 тjи мих†ны проти1ву михaнъ и4хъ, и3 брaшасz дни6 мнHги.	Whereupon they also made engines against their engines, and held them battle a long season.

Пи1ща же не бsше во грaдэ, занeже седм0е лёто бЁ, и3 и3збэжaвшіи во їудeю t kзы6къ поzд0ша њстaнокъ сокровeніz.	Yet at the last, their vessels being without victuals, (for that it was the seventh year, and they in Judea, that were delivered from the Gentiles, had eaten up the residue of the store;)

И# њстaшасz во свzти1лищи мужeй мaлw, ћкw њб8sтъ и5хъ глaдъ, и3 расточeни бhша кjйждо въ мёсто своE.	there were but a few left in the sanctuary, because the famine did so prevail against them, that they were fain to disperse themselves, every man to his own place.

И# слhша лmсjа, ћкw філи1ппъ, є3г0же постaви цaрь ґнті0хъ, є3щE жи1въ сhй, да воспитaетъ ґнті0ха сhна є3гw2, во є4же цaрствовати є3мY,	At that time Lysias heard say, that Philip, whom Antiochus the king, whiles he lived, had appointed to bring up his son Antiochus, that he might be king,

возврати1сz t персjды и3 мидjи, и3 вHи цaрстіи ходи1вшіи съ ни1мъ, и3 ћкw и4щетъ пріsти вeщы:	was returned out of Persia and Media, and the king's host also that went with him, and that he sought to take unto him the ruling of affairs.

и3 потщaсz поити2 t краегрaдіz и3 глаг0лати ко царю2 и3 воев0дамъ си1лы и3 къ мужє1мъ: њскудэвaемъ на всsкъ дeнь, и3 пи1ща нaмъ мaла (є4сть), и3 мёсто, є4же њбстои1мъ, ўтверждeно, и3 надлежи1тъ нaмъ (стр0ити) ±же њ цaрствэ:	Wherefore he went in all haste, and said to the king and the captains of the host and the company, We decay daily, and our victuals are but small, and the place we lay siege unto is strong, and the affairs of the kingdom lie upon us:

нн7э u5бо дади1мъ десни1цу человёкwмъ тBмъ и3 сотвори1мъ съ ни1ми ми1ръ и3 со всёми людьми2 и4хъ,	now therefore let us be friends with these men, and make peace with them, and with all their nation;

и3 ўстaвимъ и5мъ, да х0дzтъ въ зак0нэхъ свои1хъ, ћкоже прeжде: рaди бо зак0нwвъ свои1хъ, ±же разруши1хомъ, прогнёвашасz и3 сотвори1ша вс‰ сі‰.	and covenant with them, that they shall live after their laws, as they did before: for they are therefore displeased, and have done all these things, because we abolished their laws.

И# ўг0дно бhсть сл0во пред8 царeмъ и3 нач†лники, и3 послA къ ни6мъ ми1ръ сотвори1ти. и3 пріsша.	So the king and the princes were content: wherefore he sent unto them to make peace; and they accepted thereof.

И# клsтсz и5мъ цaрь и3 нач†лницы: њ си1хъ и3зыд0ша и3з8 твердhни.	Also the king and the princes made an oath unto them: whereupon they went out of the strong hold.

И# вни1де цaрь въ г0ру сіHнъ и3 ви1дэ твердhню мёста: и3 tвeржесz клsтвы, є4юже клsтсz, и3 повелЁ разори1ти стёну w4крестъ.	Then the king entered into mount Sion: but when he saw the strength of the place, he brake his oath that he had made, and gave commandment to pull down the wall round about.

И# tи1де тщaтелнw и3 возврати1сz во ґнтіохjю, и3 њбрёте філjппа госп0дствующа над8 грaдомъ, и3 воевA нaнь, и3 взS грaдъ нyждею.	Afterward departed he in all haste, and returned unto Antiochia, where he found Philip to be master of the city: so he fought against him, and took the city by force.
