And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and brought forth Cain and said, I have gained a man through God.
|
Адам пізнав Єву, дружину свою; і вона зачала, і народила Каїна, і сказала: придбала я людину від Господа.
|

|
And she again bore his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
|
І ще народила брата його, Авеля. І був Авель пастирем овець, а Каїн був хліборобом.
|

|
|
And it was so after some time that Cain brought of the fruits of the earth a sacrifice to the Lord.
|
Через деякий час Каїн приніс від плодів землі дар Господу,
|
|

|
|
And Abel also brought of the firstborn of his sheep and of his fatlings, and God looked upon Abel and his gifts,
|
і Авель також приніс від первістків отари своєї і від лона їх. І зглянувся Господь на Авеля і на жертву його,
|
|

|
|
but Cain and his sacrifices he regarded not, and Cain was exceedingly sorrowful and his countenance fell.
|
а на Каїна і на жертву його не зглянувся. Каїн дуже засмутився, і поникло обличчя його.
|

|
|
And the Lord God said to Cain, Why art thou become very sorrowful and why is thy countenance fallen?
|
І сказав Господь [Бог] Каїнові: чому ти засмутився? і від чого поникло обличчя твоє?
|
|

|
|
Hast thou not sinned if thou hast brought it rightly, but not rightly divided it? be still, to thee shall be his submission, and thou shalt rule over him.
|
якщо ти робиш добре, то чи не піднімаєш обличчя? а якщо не робиш доброго, то біля дверей гріх лежить; він тягне тебе до себе, але ти пануй над ним.
|

|
And Cain said to Abel his brother, Let us go out into the plain; and it came to pass that when they were in the plain Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
|
І сказав Каїн Авелю, брату своєму: [підемо в поле]. І коли вони були в полі, повстав Каїн на Авеля, брата свого, й убив його.

|
And the Lord God said to Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? and he said, I know not, am I my brother's keeper?
|
І сказав Господь [Бог] Каїнові: де Авель, брат твій? Він сказав: не знаю; хіба я сторож братові моєму?
|
|

|
|
And the Lord said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood cries to me out of the ground.
|
І сказав [Господь]: що ти зробив? Голос крови брата твого волає до Мене від землі;
|
|

|

|
|
And now thou art cursed from the earth which has opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand.
|
і нині проклятий ти від землі, що розкрила вуста свої прийняти кров брата твого від руки твоєї;
|
|

|

|
|
When thou tillest the earth, then it shall not continue to give its strength to thee: thou shalt be groaning and trembling on the earth.
|
коли ти будеш обробляти землю, вона не стане більш давати сили своєї для тебе; ти будеш вигнанцем і мандрівцем на землі.
|
|

|
|
And Cain said to the Lord God, My crime is too great for me to be forgiven.
|
І сказав Каїн Господу [Богу]: покарання моє більше, ніж можна знести;
|
|

|

|
|
If thou castest me out this day from the face of the earth, and I shall be hidden from thy presence, and I shall be groaning and trembling upon the earth, then it will be that any one that finds me shall slay me.
|
ось, Ти тепер зганяєш мене з лиця землі, і від лиця Твого я сховаюсь, і буду вигнанцем і мандрівцем на землі; і всякий, хто зустрінеться зі мною, уб’є мене.
|

|
And the Lord God said to him, Not so, any one that slays Cain shall suffer seven-fold vengeance; and the Lord God set a mark upon Cain that no one that found him might slay him.
|
І сказав йому Господь [Бог]: за те всякому, хто уб’є Каїна, відомститься всемеро. І зробив Господь [Бог] Каїнові знамення, щоб ніхто, зустрівшись з ним, не убив його.

|
So Cain went forth from the presence of God and dwelt in the land of Nod over against Edem.
|
І пішов Каїн від лиця Господнього й оселився в землі Нод, на схід від Едема.
|

|
And Cain knew his wife, and having conceived she bore Enoch; and he built a city; and he named the city after the name of his son, Enoch.
|
І пізнав Каїн дружину свою; і вона зачала і народила Єноха. І побудував він місто; і назвав місто за ім’ям сина свого: Єнох.
|

|
|
And to Enoch was born Gaidad; and Gaidad begot Maleleel; and Maleleel begot Mathusala; and Mathusala begot Lamech.
|
В Єноха народився Ірад [Гаїдад]; Ірад народив Мехіаеля [Малелеїла]; Мехіаель народив Мафусала; Мафусал народив Ламеха.

|
And Lamech took to himself two wives; the name of the one was Ada, and the name of the second Sella.
|
І взяв собі Ламех дві дружини: ім’я однієї: Ада, й ім’я другої: Цилла [Селла].
|
|

|
|
And Ada bore Jobel; he was the father of those that dwell in tents, feeding cattle.
|
Ада народила Іавала: він був батьком тих, хто живе в наметах з отарами.
|
|

|
|
And the name of his brother was Jubal; he it was who invented the psaltery and harp.
|
Ім’я брата його Іувал: він був батьком всіх, хто грає на гуслях і сопілках.
|
|

|
|
And Sella also bore Thobel; he was a smith, a manufacturer both of brass and iron; and the sister of Thobel was Noëma.
|
Цилла також народила Тувалкаїна [Фовела], що був ковачем усякого знаряддя з міді і заліза. І сестра Тувалкаїна Ноема.

|
And Lamech said to his wives, Ada and Sella, Hear my voice, ye wives of Lamech, consider my words, because I have slain a man to my sorrow and a youth to my grief.
|
І сказав Ламех дружинам своїм: Ада і Цилла! послухайте голосу мого, дружини Ламехові! слухайте слова мої: я убив чоловіка на виразку собі й отрока на рану собі;
|

|
Because vengeance has been exacted seven times on Cain's behalf, on Lamech's it shall be seventy times seven.
|
якщо за Каїна відомститься всемеро, то за Ламеха в сімдесят разів усемеро.
|

|
And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore a son, and called his name Seth, saying, For God has raised up to me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
|
І пізнав Адам ще [Єву,] дружину свою, і вона народила сина, і нарекла йому ім’я: Сиф, тому що, [говорила вона,] Бог поклав мені інше сім’я, замість Авеля, якого убив Каїн.
|

|
And Seth had a son, and he called his name Enos: he hoped to call on the name of the Lord God.
|
У Сифа також народився син, і він нарік йому ім’я: Єнос; тоді почали призивати ім’я Господа [Бога].
