Chapter 5	Глава 5

And it came to pass when the kings of the Amorites who were beyond Jordan heard, and the kings of Phœnicia by the sea, that the Lord God had dried up the river Jordan from before the children of Israel when they passed over, that their hearts failed, and they were terror-stricken, and there was no sense in them because of the children of Israel.	Коли всі царі аморрейські, які жили по цей бік Йордану до моря, і всі царі ханаанські, які біля моря, почули, що Господь [Бог] висушив води Йордану перед синами Ізраїлевими, доки переходили вони, тоді ослабло серце їхнє, [вони жахнулися] і не стало вже в них духу проти синів Ізраїлевих.

And about this time the Lord said to Joshua, Make thee stone knives of sharp stone, and sit down and circumcise the children of Israel the second time.	У той час сказав Господь Ісусові: зроби собі гострі [кам’яні] ножі й обріж синів Ізраїлевих удруге.

And Joshua made sharp knives of stone, and circumcised the children of Israel at the place called the “Hill of Foreskins.”	І зробив собі Ісус гострі [кам’яні] ножі й обрізав синів Ізраїлевих на [місці, названому]: Пагорб обрізання.

And this is the way in which Joshua purified the children of Israel; as many as were born in the way, and as many as were uncircumcised of them that came out of Egypt,	Ось причина, чому обрізав Ісус [синів Ізраїлевих, які тоді народилися на путі, і які з тих, що вийшли з Єгипту, не були тоді обрізані, всіх їх обрізав Ісус]: весь народ, який вийшов з Єгипту, чоловічої статі, усі здатні до війни померли в пустелі на путі, після виходу з Єгипту;

all these Joshua circumcised; for forty and two years Israel wandered in the wilderness of Mabdaris—	весь же народ, який вийшов, був обрізаний, але весь народ, що народився в пустелі на путі, після того, як вийшов з Єгипту, не був обрізаний;

Wherefore most of the fighting men that came out of the land of Egypt, were uncircumcised, who disobeyed the commands of God; concerning whom also he determined that they should not see the land, which the Lord sware to give to their fathers, even a land flowing with milk and honey.	бо сини Ізраїлеві сорок [два] роки ходили в пустелі [тому багато з них і не були обрізані], доки не перемер весь народ, здатний до війни, який вийшов з Єгипту, які не слухали голосу Господнього, і яким Господь клявся, що вони не побачать землі, яку Господь з клятвою обіцяв батькам їхнім, дати нам землю, де тече молоко і мед,

And in their place he raised up their sons, whom Joshua circumcised, because they were uncircumcised, having been born by the way.	а замість їх породив синів їхніх. Цих обрізав Ісус, тому що вони були необрізані; тому що їх, [як народжених] на путі, не обрізували.

And when they had been circumcised they rested continuing there in the camp till they were healed.	Коли весь народ був обрізаний, залишався він на своєму місці в стані, доки не видужав.

And the Lord said to Joshua the son of Naue, On this day have I removed the reproach of Egypt from you: and he called the name of that place Galgala.	І сказав Господь Ісусові: нині Я зняв з вас посоромлення єгипетське. Чому і називається те місце «Галгал», навіть до цього дня.

And the children of Israel kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, to the westward of Jericho on the opposite side of the Jordan in the plain.	І стояли сини Ізраїлеві станом у Галгалі і звершили Пасху у чотирнадцятий день місяця ввечері на рівнинах Єрихонських;

And they ate of the grain of the earth unleavened and new corn.	і на другий день Пасхи стали їсти з плодів землі цієї, опрісноки і сушені зерна в самий той день;

In this day the manna failed, after they had eaten of the corn of the land, and the children of Israel no longer had manna; and they took the fruits of the land of the Phœnicians in that year.	а манна перестала падати на другий день після того, як вони стали їсти плоди землі, і не було більше манни у синів Ізраїлевих, але вони їли в той рік плоди землі Ханаанської.

And it came to pass when Joshua was in Jericho, that he looked up with his eyes and saw a man standing before him, and there was a drawn sword in his hand; and Joshua drew near and said to him, Art thou for us or on the side of our enemies?	Ісус, знаходячись поблизу Єрихона, глянув, і бачить, і ось стоїть перед ним чоловік, і в руці його оголений меч. Ісус підійшов до нього і сказав йому: чи наш ти, чи з ворогів наших?

And he said to him, I am now come, the chief captain of the host of the Lord. And Joshua fell on his face upon the earth, and said to him, Lord, what commandest thou thy servant?	Він сказав: ні; я вождь воїнства Господнього, тепер прийшов [сюди]. Ісус упав лицем своїм на землю, і поклонився і сказав йому: що господар мій скаже рабові своєму?

And the captain of the Lord's host said to Joshua, Loose thy shoe off thy feet, for the place whereon thou now standest is holy.	Вождь воїнства Господнього сказав Ісусові: зніми взуття твоє з ніг твоїх, тому що місце, на якому ти стоїш, святе. Ісус так і зробив.
