Chapter 19	Глава 19

1	1
And there was a Levite sojourning in the sides of mount Ephraim, and he took to himself a concubine from Bethleem Juda.	У ті дні, коли не було царя в Ізраїля, жив один левит на схилі гори Єфремової. Він узяв собі наложницю з Вифлеєма Юдейського.

And his concubine departed from him, and went away from him to the house of her father to Bethleem Juda, and she was there four months.	Наложниця його посварилася з ним і пішла від нього в дім батька свого у Вифлеєм Юдейський і була там чотири місяці.

And her husband rose up, and went after her to speak kindly to her, to recover her to himself; and he had his young man with him, and a pair of asses; and she brought him into the house of her father; and the father of the damsel saw him, and was well pleased to meet him.	Чоловік її встав і пішов за нею, щоб поговорити до серця її і повернути її до себе. З ним був слуга його і пара ослів. Вона ввела його в дім батька свого.

And his father-in-law, the father of the damsel, constrained him, and he staid with him for three days; and they ate and drank, and lodged there.	Батько цієї молодої жінки, побачивши його, з радістю зустрів його, і затримав його тесть його, батько молодої жінки. І пробув він у нього три дні; вони їли і пили і ночували там.

And it came to pass on the fourth day that they rose early, and he stood up to depart; and the father of the damsel said to his son-in-law, Strengthen thy heart with a morsel of bread, and afterwards ye shall go.	На четвертий день встали вони рано, і він встав, щоб іти. І сказав батько молодої жінки зятеві своєму: підкріпи серце твоє шматком хліба, і потім підете.

So they two sat down together and ate and drank: and the father of the damsel said to her husband, Tarry now the night, and let thy heart be merry.	Вони залишилися, і обоє разом їли і пили. І сказав батько молодої жінки чоловікові тому: залишися ще на ніч, і нехай повеселиться серце твоє.

And the man rose up to depart; but his father-in-law constrained him, and he staid and lodged there.	Чоловік той устав, було, щоб іти, але тесть його ублагав його, і він знову ночував там.

And he rose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart; and the father of the damsel said, Strengthen now thine heart, and quit thyself as a soldier till the day decline; and the two ate.	На п’ятий день устав він вранці, щоб іти. І сказав батько молодої жінки тієї: підкріпи серце твоє [хлібом], і забаріться, доки схилиться день. І їли обоє вони [і пили].

And the man rose up to depart, he and his concubine, and his young man; but his father-in-law the father of the damsel said to him, Behold now, the day has declined toward evening; lodge here, and let thy heart rejoice; and ye shall rise early to-morrow for your journey, and thou shalt go to thy habitation.	І встав той чоловік, щоб іти, сам він, наложниця його і слуга його. І сказав йому тесть його, батько молодої жінки: ось, день схилився до вечора, ночуйте, будь ласка; ось, день незабаром закінчиться, ночуй тут, нехай повеселиться серце твоє; завтра рано встанете в дорогу вашу, і підеш у дім твій.

But the man would not lodge there, but he arose and departed, and came to the part opposite Jebus, (this is Jerusalem,) and there was with him a pair of asses saddled, and his concubine was with him.	Але чоловік не погодився ночувати, встав і пішов; і прийшов до Ієвуса, що нині Єрусалим; з ним пара нав’ючених ослів і наложниця його з ним.

And they came as far as Jebus: and the day had far advanced, and the young man said to his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn aside to this city of the Jebusites, and let us lodge in it.	Коли вони були біля Ієвуса, день уже дуже схилився. І сказав слуга господарю своєму: зайдемо в це місто ієвусеїв і заночуємо в ньому.

And his master said to him, We will not turn aside to a strange city, where there is not one of the children of Israel, but we will pass on as far as Gabaa.	Господар його сказав йому: ні, не підемо в місто іноплемінників, які не з синів Ізраїлевих, але дійдемо до Гиви.

And he said to his young man, Come, and let us draw nigh to one of the places, and we will lodge in Gabaa or in Rama.	І сказав слузі своєму: дійдемо до одного з цих місць і заночуємо в Гиві або в Рамі.

And they passed by and went on, and the sun went down upon them near to Gabaa, which is in Benjamin.	І пішли, і йшли, і зайшло сонце біля Гиви Веніамінової.

And they turned aside thence to go in to lodge in Gabaa; and they went in, and sat down in the street of the city, and there was no one who conducted them into a house to lodge.	І повернули вони туди, щоб піти заночувати в Гиві. І прийшов він і сів на вулиці в місті; але ніхто не запрошував їх у дім для ночівлі.

And behold, an old man came out of the field from his work in the evening; and the man was of mount Ephraim, and he sojourned in Gabaa, and the men of the place were sons of Benjamin.	І ось, іде один старий з роботи своєї з поля ввечері; він був родом з гори Єфремової і жив у Гиві. Жителі ж місця цього були синами Веніаміновими.

And he lifted up his eyes, and saw a traveller in the street of the city; and the old man said to him, Whither goest thou, and whence comest thou?	Він, піднявши очі свої, побачив перехожого на вулиці міській. І сказав старий: куди йдеш? і звідки ти прийшов?

And he said to him, We are passing by from Bethleem Juda to the sides of mount Ephraim: I am from thence, and I went as far as Bethleem Juda, and I am going home, and there is no man to take me into his house.	Він сказав йому: ми йдемо з Вифлеєма Юдейського на гору Єфремову, звідки я; я ходив у Вифлеєм Юдейський, а тепер іду до дому Господа; і ніхто не запрошує мене в дім;

Yet is there straw and food for our asses, and bread and wine for me and my handmaid and the young man with thy servants; there is no want of anything.	у нас є і солома і корм для ослів наших; також хліб і вино для мене і для раби твоєї і для цього слуги є в рабів твоїх; ні у чому немає нестатку.

And the old man said, Peace be to thee; only be every want of thine upon me, only do thou by no means lodge in the street.	Старий сказав йому: будь спокійним: весь нестаток твій на мені, тільки не ночуй на вулиці.

And he brought him into his house, and made room for his asses; and they washed their feet, and ate and drank.	І ввів його в дім свій і дав корм ослам [його], а самі вони обмили ноги свої і їли і пили.

And they were comforting their heart, when, behold, the men of the city, sons of transgressors, compassed the house, knocking at the door: and they spoke to the old man the owner of the house, saying, Bring out the man who came into thy house, that we may know him.	Тоді як вони розвеселили серця свої, ось, жителі міста, люди розпусні, оточили дім, стукали в двері і говорили старому, господареві дому: виведи чоловіка, який увійшов у дім твій, ми пізнаємо його.

And the master of the house came out to them, and said, Nay, brethren, do not ye wrong, I pray you, after this man has come into my house; do not ye this folly.	Господар дому вийшов до них і сказав їм: ні, брати мої, не чиніть зла, коли чоловік цей ввійшов у дім мій, не робіть цього безумства;

Behold my daughter a virgin, and the man's concubine: I will bring them out, and humble ye them, and do to them that which is good in your eyes; but to this man do not this folly.	ось у мене дочка дівчина, і в нього наложниця, виведу я їх, смиріть їх і робіть з ними, що вам завгодно; а з чоловіком цим не робіть цього безумства.

But the men would not consent to hearken to him; so the man laid hold of his concubine, and brought her out to them; and they knew her, and abused her all night till the morning, and let her go when the morning dawned.	Але вони не хотіли слухати його. Тоді чоловік узяв свою наложницю і вивів до них на вулицю. Вони пізнали її, і глумилися над нею всю ніч до ранку. І відпустили її з появою зорі.

And the woman came toward morning, and fell down at the door of the house where her husband was, until it was light.	І прийшла жінка перед появою зорі, і впала біля дверей дому тієї людини, у якої був господар її, і лежала до світла.

And her husband rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went forth to go on his journey; and, behold, the woman his concubine had fallen down by the doors of the house, and her hands were on the threshold.	Господар її встав зранку, відчинив двері дому і вийшов, щоб іти в дорогу свою: і ось, наложниця його лежить біля дверей дому, і руки її на порозі.

And he said to her, Rise, and let us go; and she answered not, for she was dead: and he took her upon his ass, and went to his place.	Він сказав їй: вставай, підемо. Але відповіді не було, [тому що вона померла]. Він поклав її на осла, встав і пішов у своє місце.

And he took his sword, and laid hold of his concubine, and divided her into twelve parts, and sent them to every coast of Israel.	Прийшовши в дім свій, він узяв ніж і, взявши наложницю свою, розрізав її за членами її на дванадцять частин і послав в усі краї Ізраїлеві.

And it was so, that every one who saw it said, Such a day as this has not happened nor has been seen from the day of the going up of the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt until this day: take ye counsel concerning it, and speak.	Всякий, хто бачив це, говорив: не бувало і не бачено було подібного до цього від дня виходу синів Ізраїлевих із землі Єгипетської до цього дня. [Посланим же від себе людям він дав наказ і сказав: так говоріть усьому Ізраїлю: чи бувало коли подібне до цього?] Зверніть увагу на це, порадьтеся і скажіть.
