| The word that came from the Lord to | Слово, яке було до Єремії від Господа: |

| Jeremias, saying, Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there thou shalt hear my words. | встань і зійди у дім гончара, і там Я сповіщу тобі слова Мої. |
|

| So I went down to the potter's house, and behold, he was making a vessel on the stones. | І зійшов я у дім гончара, і ось, він виконував свою работу на кружалі. |
|

|
| And the vessel which he was making with his hands fell: so he made it again another vessel, as it seemed good to him to make it. | І посудина, яку гончар виробляв із глини, розвалилася у руці його; і він знову зробив з неї іншу посудину, яку гончар здумав зробити. |
|

| And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, | І було слово Господнє до мене: |
|

|
| Shall I not be able, O house of Israel, to do to you as this potter? behold, as the clay of the potter are ye in my hands. | чи не можу Я вчинити з вами, доме Ізраїлів, подібно до гончара цього? — говорить Господь. Ось, що глина в руці гончара, те ви у Моїй руці; доме Ізраїлів. |

| If I shall pronounce a decree upon a nation, or upon a kingdom, to cut them off, and to destroy them; | Іноді Я скажу про який-небудь народ і царство, що викоріню, знищу і погублю його; |

| and that nation turn from all their sins, then will I repent of the evils which I purposed to do to them. | але якщо народ цей, на який Я це вирік, навернеться від своїх злих діл, Я відкладаю те зло, яке помислив зробити йому. |
|

| And if I shall pronounce a decree upon a nation and kingdom, to rebuild and to plant it; | А іноді скажу про який-небудь народ і царство, що впорядкую і утверджу його; |
|

| and they do evil before me, so as not to hearken to my voice, then will I repent of the good which I spoke of, to do it to them. | але якщо він буде робити лихе перед очима Моїми і не буде слухатися голосу Мого, Я відміню те добро, яким хотів облагодіяти його. |

| And now say to the men of Juda, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Behold, I prepare evils against you, and devise a device against you: let every one turn now from his evil way, and amend your practices. | Отже, скажи мужам Іуди і жителям Єрусалима: так говорить Господь: ось, Я готую вам зло і замишляю проти вас; отже, наверніться кожен від злого шляху свого і виправте путі ваші і вчинки ваші. |

| And they said, We will quit ourselves like men, for we will pursue our perverse ways, and we will perform each the lusts of his evil heart. | Але вони говорять: «не надійся; ми будемо жити за своїми помислами і будемо чинити кожен за впертістю злого свого серця». |

| Therefore thus saith the Lord; Enquire now among the nations, who has heard such very horrible things as the virgin of Israel has done? | Тому так говорить Господь: запитайте між народами, чи чув хто подібне до цього? украй мерзотні діла вчинила діва Ізраїлева. |

|
| Will fertilising streams fail to flow from a rock, or snow fail from Libanus? will water violently impelled by the wind turn aside? | Чи залишає сніг ливанський скелю гори? і чи висихають холодні води, що течуть з інших місць? |
|

|
| For my people have forgotten me, they have offered incense in vain, and they fail in their ways, leaving the ancient tracks, to enter upon impassable paths; | А народ Мій залишив Мене; вони кадять суєтним, спіткнулися на шляхах своїх, залишили шляхи давні, щоб ходити по стежках шляху непрокладеного, |

| to make their land a desolation, and a perpetual hissing; all that go through it shall be amazed, and shall shake their heads. | щоб зробити землю свою жахом, постійним посміховиськом, так що кожен, хто проходить нею, здивується і похитає головою своєю. |

| I will scatter them before their enemies like an east wind; I will shew them the day of their destruction. | Як східним вітром розвію їх перед лицем ворога; спиною, а не лицем повернуся до них у день біди їх. |

| Then they said, Come, and let us devise a device against Jeremias; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and we will hear all his words. | А вони сказали: «прийдіть, учинимо задум проти Єремії; тому що не зник же закон у священика і рада у мудрого, і слово у пророка; прийдіть, уразимо його язиком і не будемо слухати слів його». |

| Hear me, O Lord, and hear the voice of my pleading. | Вислухай мене, Господи, і почуй голос моїх супротивників. |
|

| Forasmuch as evil is rewarded for good; for they have spoken words against my soul, and they have hidden the punishment they meant for me; remember that I stood before thy face, to speak good for them, to turn away thy wrath from them. | Чи слід відплачувати злом за добро? а вони риють яму душі моїй. Згадай, що я стою перед лицем Твоїм, щоб говорити за них добре, щоб відвернути від них гнів Твій. |

| Therefore do thou deliver their sons to famine, and gather them to the power of the sword: let their women be childless and widows; and let their men be cut off by death, and their young men fall by the sword in war. | Отже, віддай синів їх голоду і піддай їх мечу; нехай будуть дружини їхні бездітними і вдовами, і чоловіки їхні нехай будуть уражені смертю, і юнаки їхні умертвлені мечем на війні. |

| Let there be a cry in their houses: thou shalt bring upon them robbers suddenly: for they have formed a plan to take me, and have hidden snares for me. | Нехай буде чутно волання з домів їхніх, коли приведеш на них полки раптово; бо вони риють яму, щоб упіймати мене, і таємно розставили сіті для ніг моїх. |

| And thou, Lord, knowest all their deadly counsel against me: account not their iniquities guiltless, and blot not out their sins from before thee: let their weakness come before thee; deal with them in the time of thy wrath. | Але Ти, Господи, знаєш усі задуми їхні проти мене, щоб умертвити мене; не прости неправди їх і гріха їх не загладь перед лицем Твоїм; нехай будуть вони поваленими перед Тобою; вчини з ними під час гніву Твого. |
