And he said, Thus saith the Lord, I remember the kindness of thy youth, and the love of thine espousals, in following the Holy One of Israel, saith the Lord.
|
І було слово Господнє до мене:
|

|
Israel was the holy people to the Lord, and the first-fruits of his increase: all that devoured him shall offend; evils shall come upon them, saith the Lord.
|
йди і проголоси у вуха дочки Єрусалима: так говорить Господь: Я згадую про дружбу юности твоєї, про любов твою, коли ти була нареченою, коли пішла за Мною у пустелю, у землю незасіяну.
|

|
Hear the word of the Lord, O house of Jacob, and every family of the house of Israel.
|
Ізраїль був святинею Господа, початком плодів Його; усі, хто поїдав його, були засуджувані, біди осягали їх, — говорить Господь.
|

|
Thus saith the Lord, What trespass have your fathers found in me, that they have revolted far from me, and gone after vanities, and become vain?
|
Вислухайте слово Господнє, доме Якова і всі роди дому Ізраїлевого!
|

|
And they said not, Where is the Lord, who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who guided us in the wilderness, in an untried and trackless land, in a land which no man at all went through, and no man dwelt there?
|
Так говорить Господь: яку неправду знайшли у Мені батьки ваші, що віддалилися від Мене і пішли за суєтою, й осуєтились,

|
And I brought you to Carmel, that ye should eat the fruits thereof, and the good thereof; and ye went in, and defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.
|
і не сказали: «де Господь, Який вивів нас із землі Єгипетської, вів нас пустелею, землею порожньою і ненаселеною, землею сухою, землею тіні смертної, по якій ніхто не ходив і де не жила людина?»

|
The priests said not, Where is the Lord? and they that held by the law knew me not: the shepherds also sinned against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and went after that which profited not.
|
І Я ввів вас у землю плодючу, щоб ви годувалися плодами її і добром її; а ви увійшли й осквернили землю Мою, і надбання Моє зробили мерзотою.
|

|
Therefore I will yet plead with you, and will plead with your children's children.
|
Священики не говорили: «де Господь?», і вчителі закону не знали Мене, і пастирі відпали від Мене, і пророки пророкували в ім’я Ваала і ходили слідом тих, які не допомагають.
|

|
For go to the isles of the Chettians, and see; and send to Kedar, and observe accurately, and see if such things have been done;
|
Тому Я ще буду судитися з вами, — говорить Господь, — і з синами синів ваших буду судитися.
|
|

|
if the nations will change their gods, though they are not gods: but my people have changed their glory, for that from which they shall not be profited.
|
Бо підіть на острови хиттимські і подивіться, і пошліть у Кидар і розвідайте старанно, і розгляньте: чи було там що-небудь подібне до цього?
|
|

|
The heaven is amazed at this, and is very exceedingly horror-struck, saith the Lord.
|
чи перемінив який народ богів своїх; хоч вони і не боги? а Мій народ проміняв славу свою на те, що не допомагає.
|
|

|
|
For my people has committed two faults, and evil ones: they have forsaken me, the fountain of water of life, and hewn out for themselves broken cisterns, which will not be able to hold water.
|
Подивуйтеся цьому, небеса, і здригніться, і жахніться, — говорить Господь.
|
|

|
Is Israel a servant, or a home-born slave? why has he become a spoil?
|
Бо два зла зробив народ Мій: Мене, джерело води живої, залишили, і висікли собі водойми розбиті, які не можуть тримати води.
|
|

|
|
The lions roared upon him, and uttered their voice, which have made his land a wilderness: and his cities are broken down, that they should not be inhabited.
|
Хіба Ізраїль раб? або він домочадець? чому він зробився здобиччю?
|
|

|

|
|
Also the children of Memphis and Taphnas have known thee, and mocked thee.
|
Зарикали на нього молоді леви, подали голос свій і зробили землю його пустелею; міста його спалені, без жителів.
|
|

|
|
Has not thy forsaking me brought these things upon thee? saith the Lord thy God.
|
І сини Мемфиса і Тафни об’їли тім’я твоє.
|
|

|
|
And now what hast thou to do with the way of Egypt, to drink the water of Geon? and what hast thou to do with the way of the Assyrians, to drink the water of rivers?
|
Чи не заподіяв ти собі це тим, що залишив Господа Бога твого у той час, коли Він вів тебе у дорозі?
|

|
Thine apostasy shall correct thee, and thy wickedness shall reprove thee: know then, and see, that thy forsaking me has been bitter to thee, saith the Lord thy God; and I have taken no pleasure in thee, saith the Lord thy God.
|
І нині для чого тобі путь у Єгипет, щоб пити воду з Нілу? і для чого тобі путь в Ассирію, щоб пити воду з ріки її?

|
For of old thou hast broken thy yoke, and plucked asunder thy bands; and thou hast said, I will not serve thee, but will go upon every high hill, and under every shady tree, there will I indulge in my fornication.
|
Покарає тебе нечестя твоє, і відступництво твоє викриє тебе; отже, пізнай і розміркуй, як погано і гірко те, що ти залишив Господа Бога твого і страху Мого немає у тобі, — говорить Господь Бог Саваоф.

|
Yet I planted thee a fruitful vine, entirely of the right sort: how art thou a strange vine turned to bitterness!
|
Бо здавна Я скрушив ярмо твоє, розірвав кайдани твої, і ти говорив: «не буду служити ідолам», а між тим на усякому високому пагорбі і під усяким гіллястим деревом ти блудодіяв.
|

|
Though thou shouldest wash thyself with nitre, and multiply to thyself soap, still thou art stained by thine iniquities before me, saith the Lord.
|
Я насадив тебе як благородну лозу, — найчистіше насіння; як же ти перетворилася у Мене на дикий паросток чужої лози?
|

|
How wilt thou say, I am not polluted, and have not gone after Baal? behold thy ways in the burial-ground, and know what thou hast done: her voice has howled in the evening:
|
Тому, хоч би ти умився милом і багато ужив на себе лугу, нечестя твоє відзначене переді Мною, — говорить Господь Бог.

she has extended her ways over the waters of the desert; she was hurried along by the lusts of her soul; she is given up to them, who will turn her back? none that seek her shall be weary; at the time of her humiliation they shall find her.
|
Як можеш ти сказати: «я не осквернив себе, я не ходив слідом Ваала?» Подивися на поведінку твою у долині, пізнай, що робила ти, жвава верблюдиця, яка гасає по шляхах твоїх?
|

|
Withdraw thy foot from a rough way, and thy throat from thirst: but she said, I will strengthen myself: for she loved strangers, and went after them.
|
Звиклу до пустелі дику ослицю, яка у пристрасті душі своєї ковтає повітря, хто може утримати? Усі, хто шукає її, не стомляться: у її місяці вони знайдуть її.

|
As is the shame of a thief when he is caught, so shall the children of Israel be ashamed; they, and their kings, and their princes, and their priests, and their prophets.
|
Не давай ногам твоїм стоптувати взуття, і гортані твоїй — знемагати від спраги. Але ти сказав: «не надійся, ні! бо люблю чужих і буду ходити слідом за ними».

|
They said to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast begotten me: and they have turned their backs to me, and not their faces: yet in the time of their afflictions they will say, Arise, and save us.
|
Як злодій, коли впіймають його, буває осоромлений, так осоромив себе дім Ізраїлів: вони, царі їх, князі їх, і священики їх, і пророки їх, —

|
And where are thy gods, which thou madest for thyself? will they arise and save in the time of thine affliction? for according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Juda; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem they sacrificed to Baal.
|
говорячи дереву: «ти мій батько», і каменю: «ти народив мене»; бо вони повернули до Мене спину, а не лице; а під час біди своєї будуть говорити: «встань і спаси нас!»

|
Wherefore do ye speak unto me? ye all have been ungodly, and ye all have transgressed against me, saith the Lord.
|
Де ж боги твої, яких ти зробив собі? — нехай вони встануть, якщо можуть спасти тебе у час біди твоєї; бо скільки в тебе міст, стільки і богів у тебе, Іудо.

|
In vain have I smitten your children; ye have not received correction: a sword has devoured your prophets as a destroying lion; yet ye feared not.
|
Для чого вам змагатися зі Мною? — усі ви [нечестиво чинили і] грішили проти Мене, — говорить Господь.
|

|
|
Hear ye the word of the Lord: thus saith the Lord, Have I been a wilderness or a dry land to Israel? wherefore has my people said, We will not be ruled over, and will not come to thee any more?
|
Даремно вражав Я дітей ваших: вони не прийняли напоумлення; пророків ваших пожирав меч ваш, як лев, який винищує [, і ви не убоялись].
|

|
Will a bride forget her ornaments, or a virgin her girdle? but my people has forgotten me days without number.
|
О, роде! слухайте ви слово Господнє: чи був Я пустелею для Ізраїля? чи був Я країною мороку? Навіщо ж народ Мій говорить: «ми самі собі господарі; ми вже не прийдемо до Тебе»?

|
What fair device wilt thou yet employ in thy ways, so as to seek love? it shall not be so; moreover thou hast done wickedly in corrupting thy ways;
|
Чи забуває дівчина прикрасу свою і наречена — вбрання своє? а народ Мій забув Мене, — немає числа дням.
|

|
and in thine hands has been found the blood of innocent souls; I have not found them in holes, but on every oak.
|
Як майстерно направляєш ти шляхи твої, щоб здобути любов! і для того навіть до злочинів пристосовувала ти шляхи твої.
|
|

|
Yet thou saidst, I am innocent: only let his wrath be turned away from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, whereas thou sayest, I have not sinned.
|
Навіть на полах одягу твого знаходиться кров людей бідних, невинних, яких ти не застала при зламі, і, незважаючи на все це,
|

|
For thou hast been so exceedingly contemptuous as to repeat thy ways; but thou shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assur.
|
говориш: «оскільки я невинна, то, напевне, гнів Його відвернеться від мене». Ось, Я буду судитися з тобою за те, що говориш: «я не згрішила».

|
For thou shalt go forth thence also with thine hands upon thine head; for the Lord has rejected thine hope, and thou shalt not prosper in it.
|
Навіщо ти так багато бродиш, змінюючи путь твою? Ти так само будеш посоромлена і Єгиптом, як була посоромлена Ассирією;
