| Then came all the leaders of the host, and Joanan, and Azarias the son of Maasæas, and all the people great and small, | Про синів Аммонових так говорить Господь: хіба немає синів у Ізраїлю? хіба немає у нього спадкоємця? Чому ж Малхом заволодів Гадом, і народ його живе у містах його? |

| to Jeremias the prophet, and said to him, Let now our supplication come before thy face, and pray thou to the Lord thy God for this remnant; for we are left few out of many, as thine eyes see. | Тому ось, настають дні, — говорить Господь, — коли у Равві синів Аммонових чутно буде крик битви, і зробиться вона купою руїн, і міста її будуть спалені вогнем, і оволодіє Ізраїль тими, які володіли ним, — говорить Господь. |

| And let the Lord thy God declare to us the way wherein we should walk, and the thing which we should do. | Ридай, Есевоне, бо спустошено Гай; кричіть, дочки Равви, опояшіться веретищем, плачте і блукайте по горо́дах, бо Малхом піде у полон разом зі священиками і князями своїми. |

| And Jeremias said to them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray for you to the Lord our God, according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever word the Lord God shall answer, I will declare it to you; I will not hide anything from you. | Чого хвалишся долинами? Потече долина твоя кров’ю, віроломна дочко, що сподіваєшся на скарби свої, що говориш: «хто прийде до мене?» |

| And they said to Jeremias, Let the Lord be between us for a just and faithful witness, if we do not according to every word which the Lord shall send to us. | Ось, Я наведу на тебе жах з усіх околиць твоїх, — говорить Господь Бог Саваоф; розбіжитеся, хто куди, і ніхто не збере тих, що розбіглися. |

| And whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will hearken to the voice of the Lord our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, because we shall hearken to the voice of the Lord our God. | Але після того Я поверну полон синів Аммонових, — говорить Господь. |
|

| And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the Lord came to Jeremias. | Про Едом так говорить Господь Саваоф: хіба немає більше мудрости у Фемані? хіба не стало ради у розумних? хіба збідніла мудрість їх? |
|

|
| And he called Joanan, and the leaders of the host, and all the people from the least even to the greatest, | Біжіть, повернувши тил, ховайтеся у печерах, жителі Дедана, бо загибель Ісава Я наведу на нього, — час відвідування Мого. |
|

| and he said to them, Thus saith the Lord; | Якби збирачі винограду прийшли до тебе, то, напевне, залишили б кілька незібраних ягід. І якби злодії прийшли уночі, то вони украли б, скільки їм потрібно. |
|

|
| If ye will indeed dwell in this land, I will build you, and will not pull you down, but will plant you, and in no wise pluck you up: for I have ceased from the calamities which I brought upon you. | А Я догола обберу Ісава, відкрию потаємні місця його, і сховатися він не може. Знищене буде плем’я його, і брати його і сусіди його; і не буде його. |

| Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the Lord: for I am with you, to deliver you, and save you out of their hand. | Залиш сиріт твоїх, Я підтримаю життя їх, і удови твої нехай надіються на Мене. |
|

|
| And I will grant you mercy, and pity you, and will restore you to your land. | Бо так говорить Господь: ось і ті, яким не призначено було пити чашу, неодмінно будуть пити її, і чи ти залишишся непокараним? Ні, не залишишся непокараним, але неодмінно будеш пити чашу. |

| But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, that we may not hearken to the voice of the Lord; | Бо Мною клянуся, — говорить Господь, — що жахом, посміянням, пустелею і прокляттям буде Восор, і всі міста його зробляться вічними пустелями. |
|

|
| for we will go into the land of Egypt, and we shall see no war, and shall not hear the sound of a trumpet, and we shall not hunger for bread; and there we will dwell: | Я чув поголос від Господа, і посол посланий до народів сказати: зберіться і йдіть проти нього, і піднімайтеся на війну. |

|
| then hear the word of the Lord; thus saith the Lord; | Бо ось, Я зроблю тебе малим між народами, знехтуваним між людьми. |
|

|
| If ye set your face toward Egypt, and go in there to dwell; then it shall be, that the sword which ye fear shall find you in the land of Egypt, and the famine to which ye have regard, shall overtake you, coming after you in Egypt; and there ye shall die. | Грізне становище твоє і гордовитість серця твого звабили тебе, що живеш у розщілинах скель і займаєш вершини пагорбів. Але, хоч би ти, як орел, високо звив гніздо твоє, і звідти скину тебе, — говорить Господь. |

| And all the men, and all the strangers who have set their face toward the land of Egypt to dwell there, shall be consumed by the sword, and by the famine: and there shall not one of them escape from the evils which I bring upon them. | І буде Едом жахом; усякий, хто проходить мимо, здивується і посвистить, дивлячись на усі виразки його. |

| For thus saith the Lord; As my wrath has dropped upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall my wrath drop upon you, when ye have entered into Egypt: and ye shall be a desolation, and under the power of others, and a curse and a reproach: and ye shall no more see this place. | Як знищені Содом і Гоморра і сусідні міста їх, — говорить Господь, — так і там жодна людина не буде жити, і син людський не зупиниться у ньому. |

| These are the words which the Lord has spoken concerning you the remnant of Juda; Enter ye not into Egypt: and now know ye for a certainty, | Ось, виходить він, як лев, з узвишшя Йордану на укріплені житла; але Я змушу їх поспішно піти з Ідумеї, і хто обраний, того поставлю над нею. Бо хто подібний до Мене? і хто вимагатиме відповіді від Мене? і який пастир протистане Мені? |

| that ye have wrought wickedness in your hearts, when ye sent me, saying, Pray thou for us to the Lord; and according to all that the Lord shall speak to thee we will do. | Отже, вислухайте визначення Господа, яке Він поставив про Едом, і наміри Його, які Він має щодо жителів Фемана: істинно, найменші зі стад поведуть їх і спустошать житла їх. |

| And ye have not hearkened to the voice of the Lord, with which he sent me to you. | Від шуму падіння їх потрясеться земля, і відгомін крику їх чутно буде біля Червоного моря. |
|

|
| Now therefore ye shall perish by sword and by famine, in the place which ye desire to go into to dwell there. | Ось, як орел підніметься він, і полетить, і розпустить крила свої над Восором; і серце хоробрих ідумеян буде у той день, як серце жінки під час пологів. |
