| And the devil stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel. | І повстав сатана на Ізраїля, і підбурив Давида зробити перелік ізраїльтян. |

| And king David said to Joab and to the captains of the forces, Go, number Israel from Bersabee even to Dan, and bring me the account, and I shall know their number. | І сказав Давид Іоаву і начальникам у народі: підіть порахуйте ізраїльтян, від Вирсавії до Дана, і представте мені, щоб я знав число їх. |

| And Joab said, May the Lord add to his people, a hundred-fold as many as they are, and let the eyes of my lord the king see it: all are the servants of my lord. Why does my lord seek this thing? do it not, lest it become a sin to Israel. | І сказав Іоав: нехай примножить Господь народ Свій у сто разів проти того, скільки є його. Чи не всі вони, господарю мій царю, раби господаря мого? Для чого ж вимагає цього господар мій? Щоб було поставлено це в провину Ізраїлю? |

| Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Joab; and Joab went out and passed through all Israel, and came to Jerusalem. | Але царське слово перемогло Іоава; і пішов Іоав, і обійшов увесь Ізраїль, і прийшов у Єрусалим. |

| And Joab gave the number of the mustering of the people to David: and all Israel was a million and a hundred thousand men that drew sword: and the sons of Juda were four hundred and seventy thousand men that drew sword. | І подав Іоав Давиду список народного перепису, і було всіх ізраїльтян тисяча тисяч, і сто тисяч чоловіків, які оголюють меч, і юдеїв — чотириста сімдесят тисяч, які оголюють меч. |

| But he numbered not Levi and Benjamin among them; for the word of the king was painful to Joab. | А левитів і веніаминян він не порахував між ними, тому що царське слово було противним Іоаву. |

| And there was evil in the sight of the Lord respecting this thing; and he smote Israel. | І не угодною була в очах Божих справа ця, і Він уразив Ізраїля. |
|

| And David said to God, I have sinned exceedingly, in that I have done this thing: and now, I pray thee, remove the sin of thy servant; for I have been exceedingly foolish. | І сказав Давид Богу: дуже згрішив я, зробивши це. І нині прости провину раба Твого, бо я зробив дуже нерозважливо. |

| And the Lord spoke to Gad the seer, saying, | І говорив Господь Гадові, прозорливцю Давидовому, і сказав: |

| Go and speak to David, saying, Thus saith the Lord, I bring three things upon thee: choose one of them for thyself, and I will do it to thee. | піди і скажи Давиду: так говорить Господь: три покарання Я пропоную тобі, обери собі одне з них, — і Я пошлю його на тебе. |

| And Gad came to David, and said to him, Thus saith the Lord, Choose for thyself, | І прийшов Гад до Давида і сказав йому: так говорить Господь: обирай собі: |

| either three years of famine, or that thou shouldest flee three months from the face of thine enemies, and the sword of thine enemies shall be employed to destroy thee, or that the sword of the Lord and pestilence should be three days in the land, and the angel of the Lord shall be destroying in all the inheritance of Israel. And now consider what I shall answer to him that sent the message. | або три роки — голод, або три місяці будеш ти переслідуваний ворогами твоїми і меч ворогів твоїх буде досягати тебе; або три дні — меч Господній і моровиця на землі й ангел Господній, який знищує в усіх краях Ізраїля. Отже, розглянь, що мені відповісти Тому, Хто Послав мене зі словом. |

| And David said to Gad, They are very hard for me, even all the three: let me fall now into the hands of the Lord, for his mercies are very abundant, and let me not fall by any means into the hands of man. | І сказав Давид Гадові: тяжко мені дуже, але нехай краще впаду в руки Господа, бо дуже велике милосердя Його, тільки б не впасти мені в руки людські. |

| So the Lord brought pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men. | І послав Господь моровицю на Ізраїля, і померло ізраїльтян сімдесят тисяч чоловік. |
|

| And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the Lord saw, and repented for the evil, and said to the angel that was destroying, Let it suffice thee; withhold thine hand. And the angel of the Lord stood by the threshing-floor of Orna the Jebusite. | І послав Бог ангела в Єрусалим, щоб знищувати його. І коли він почав знищувати, побачив Господь і пожалів про цю біду, і сказав ангелу-знищувачу: досить! тепер опусти руку твою. Ангел же Господній стояв тоді над током Орни ієвусеянина. |

| And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the Lord, standing between the earth and the heaven, and his sword drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem: and David and the elders clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces. | І підняв Давид очі свої, і побачив ангела Господнього, який стоїть між землею і небом, з оголеним у руці його мечем, простягнутим на Єрусалим; і впав Давид і старійшини, покриті веретищем, на обличчя свої. |

| And David said to God, Was it not I that gave orders to number the people? and I am the guilty one; I have greatly sinned: but these sheep, what have they done? O Lord God, let thy hand be upon me, and upon my father's house, and not on thy people for destruction, O Lord! | І сказав Давид Богу: чи не я повелів порахувати народ? я згрішив, я зробив зло, а ці вівці що зробили? Господи, Боже мій! нехай буде рука Твоя на мені і на домі батька мого, а не на народі Твоєму, щоб погубити його. |

| And the angel of the Lord told Gad to tell David, that he should go up to erect an altar to the Lord, in the threshing-floor of Orna the Jebusite. | І ангел Господній сказав Гадові, щоб той сказав Давиду: нехай Давид прийде і поставить жертовник Господу на току Орни ієвусеянина. |

| And David went up according to the word of Gad, which he spoke in the name of the Lord. | І пішов Давид, за словом Гада, яке він говорив ім’ям Господнім. |
|

| And Orna turned and saw the king; and he hid himself and his four sons with him. Now Orna was threshing wheat. | Орна повернувся, побачив ангела, і чотири сини його з ним сховалися. Орна молотив тоді пшеницю. |
|

|
| And David came to Orna; and Orna came forth from the threshing-floor, and did obeisance to David with his face to the ground. | І прийшов Давид до Орни. Орна, глянувши і побачивши Давида, вийшов з току і поклонився Давиду лицем до землі. |
|

|
| And David said to Orna, Give me thy place of the threshing-floor, and I will build upon it an altar to the Lord: give it me for its worth in money, and the plague shall cease from among the people. | І сказав Давид Орні: віддай мені місце під током, я побудую на ньому жертовник Господу; за справжню ціну віддай мені його, щоб припинилося знищення народу. |

| And Orna said to David, Take it to thyself, and let my lord the king do what is right in his eyes: see, I have given the calves for a whole-burnt-offering, and the plough for wood, and the corn for a meat-offering; I have given all. | І сказав Орна Давиду: візьми собі; нехай робить господар мій цар що йому вгодно; ось я віддаю і волів на всепалення, і молотильні знаряддя на дрова, і пшеницю на приношення; усе це віддаю задарма. |

| And king David said to Orna, Nay; for I will surely buy it for its worth in money: for I will not take thy property for the Lord, to offer a whole-burnt-offering to the Lord without cost to myself. | І сказав цар Давид Орні: ні, я хочу купити в тебе за дійсну ціну, бо не стану я приносити твоєї власности Господу, і не буду приносити у всепалення взятого задарма. |

| And David gave to Orna for his place six hundred shekels of gold by weight. | І дав Давид Орні за це місце шістсот сиклів золота. |

|
| And David built there an altar to the Lord, and offered up whole-burnt-offerings and peace-offerings: and he cried to the Lord, and he answered him by fire out of heaven on the altar of whole-burnt-offerings, and it consumed the whole-burnt-offering. | І спорудив там Давид жертовник Господу і підніс всепалення і мирні жертви; і призвав Господа, і Він почув його, пославши вогонь з неба на жертовник всепалення. |

| And the Lord spoke to the angel; and he put up the sword into its sheath. | І сказав Господь ангелові: поверни меч твій у піхви його. |

| At that time when David saw that the Lord answered him in the threshing-floor of Orna the Jebusite, he also sacrificed there. | У цей час Давид, бачачи, що Господь почув його на току Орни ієвусеянина, приніс там жертву. |
|

| And the tabernacle of the Lord which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of whole-burnt-offerings, were at that time in the high place at Gabaon. | Скинія ж Господня, яку зробив Мойсей у пустелі, і жертовник всепалення знаходилися в той час на висоті в Гаваоні. |

| And David could not go before it to enquire of God; for he hasted not because of the sword of the angel of the Lord. | Й не міг Давид піти туди, щоб шукати Бога, тому що був наляканий мечем ангела Господнього. |
