Chapter 12	Глава 12

And it came to pass, while the lion spake these words unto the eagle, I beheld,	Коли лев говорив до орла ці слова, я побачив,

and, lo, the head that remained appeared no more, and the two wings which went over unto it arose and set themselves up to reign, and their kingdom was small, and full of uproar.	що не з’являлася більше голова, яка залишалася разом з чотирма крилами, які перейшли до неї і піднімалися, щоб царювати, але царство яких було слабке і повне збурювань.

And I beheld, and, lo, they appeared no more, and the whole body of the eagle was burnt, so that the earth was in great fear: then awoke I by reason of great ecstasy of mind, and from great fear, and said unto my spirit,	І я бачив, і ось вони зникли, і все тіло орла згорало, і жахнулася земля, і я від тривоги, несамовитости розуму і від великого страху прокинувся і сказав духу моєму:

Lo, this hast thou done unto me, in that thou searchest out the ways of the Most High.	ось, ти заподіяв мені це тим, що випробовуєш путі Всевишнього.

Lo, I am yet weary in my mind, and very weak in my spirit; nor is there the least strength in me, for the great fear wherewith I was affrighted this night.	Ось, я ще тремчу серцем і дуже знеміг духом моїм, і немає у мені ніскільки сили від великого страху, яким я уражений у цю ніч.

Therefore will I now beseech the Most High, that he will strengthen me unto the end.	Отже, нині я помолюся Всевишньому, щоб Він укріпив мене до кінця.

And I said, O Lord that bearest rule, if I have found favor in thy sight, and if I am justified with thee above many others, and if my prayer indeed be come up before thy face;	І сказав я: Владико Господи! якщо я знайшов благодать перед очима Твоїми, якщо Ти знайшов мене праведним перед багатьма, і якщо молитва моя справді зійшла перед лице Твоє,

strengthen me then, and show me thy servant the interpretation and plain meaning of this fearful vision, that thou mayest perfectly comfort my soul.	укріпи мене і покажи мені, рабові Твоєму, значення цього страшного видіння, щоб цілком заспокоїти душу мою:

For thou hast judged me worthy to show me the end of time and the last times.	бо Ти судив мене гідним, щоб показати мені останні часи. І Він сказав мені:

And he said unto me, This is the interpretation of this vision which thou sawest:	таке значення видіння цього:

The eagle, whom thou sawest come up from the sea, is the fourth kingdom which appeared in vision to thy brother Daniel.	орел, якого ти бачив, що піднімався від моря, є царство, показане у видінні Даниїлові, братові твоєму;

But it was not expounded unto him, as I now expound it unto thee or have expounded it.	але йому не було пояснено те, що нині Я пояснюю тобі.

Behold, the days come, that there shall rise up a kingdom upon earth, and it shall be feared above all the kingdoms that were before it.	Ось, приходять дні, коли постане на землі царство більш страшне, ніж усі царства, які були раніше нього.
14	14
In the same shall twelve kings reign, one after another:	У ньому будуть царювати, один після одного, дванадцять царів.
15	15
whereof the second shall begin to reign, and shall have a longer time than any of the twelve.	Другий з них почне царювати, і утримає владу більш тривалий час, ніж інші дванадцять.
16	16
This is the interpretation of the twelve wings, which thou sawest.	Таке значення дванадцяти крил, бачених тобою.

And whereas thou heardest a voice which spake, not going out from the heads, but from the midst of the body thereof, this is the interpretation:	А що ти чув голос, який говорив, що виходив не від голів орла, але зсередини тіла його,

That after the time of that kingdom there shall arise no small contentions, and it shall stand in peril of falling: nevertheless it shall not then fall, but shall be restored again to its first estate.	це означає, що після часу того царства відбудуться чималі чвари, і царство буде піддане небезпеці падіння; але воно не впаде тоді і відновиться у первісному стані своєму.

And whereas thou sawest the eight under wings sticking to her wings, this is the interpretation:	А що ти бачив вісім малих підкрильних пер, з’єднаних із крилами, це означає,

That in it there shall arise eight kings, whose times shall be but small, and their years swift.	що постануть у царстві вісім царів, часи яких будуть легкі і роки швидкоплинні, і два з них загинуть.
21	21
And two of them shall perish, when the middle time approacheth: four shall be kept for a while until the time of the ending thereof shall approach: but two shall be kept unto the end.	Коли буде наближатися середній час, чотири збережуться до того часу, коли буде близький кінець його; а два збережуться до кінця.

And whereas thou sawest three heads resting, this is the interpretation:	А що ти бачив три голови, які спочивають, це означає,

In the last days thereof shall the Most High raise up three kingdoms, and renew many things therein, and they shall bear rule over the earth,	що в останні дні царства Всевишній воздвигне три царства і підкорить їм багато інших, і вони будуть володарювати над землею і жителями її

and over those that dwell therein, with much oppression, above all those that were before them: therefore are they called the heads of the eagle.	з більшим утиском, ніж усі, що були раніше; тому вони і названі головами орла,

For these are they that shall accomplish her wickedness, and that shall finish her last end.	бо саме вони довершать беззаконня його і покладуть кінець йому.

And whereas thou sawest that the great head appeared no more, it signifieth that one of them shall die upon his bed, and yet with pain.	А що ти бачив, що велика голова не з’являлася більше, це означає, що один з царів помре на постелі своїй, втім, з муками,

But for the two that remained, the sword shall devour them.	а двох інших пожере меч;

For the sword of the one shall devour him that was with him: but he also shall fall by the sword in the last days.	меч одного пожере того, який з ним, але і він з часом помре від меча.

And whereas thou sawest two under wings passing over unto the head that is on the right side,	А що ти бачив, два підкрильних пера перейшли на голову, яка знаходиться з правого боку,

this is the interpretation: These are they, whom the Most High hath kept unto his end: this is the small kingdom and full of trouble, as thou sawest.	це ті, яких Всевишній зберіг до кінця царства, тобто царство убоге і сповнене занепокоєнь.

And the lion, whom thou sawest rising up out of the wood, and roaring, and speaking to the eagle, and rebuking her for her unrighteousness, and all her words which thou hast heard;	Лев, якого ти бачив, як він піднявся з лісу і рикав, який говорив до орла й викривав його у неправдах його всіма словами його, які ти чув,

this is the anointed one, whom the Most High hath kept unto the end of days, who shall spring up out of the seed of David, and he shall come and speak unto them and reprove them for their wickedness and unrighteousness, and shall heap up before them their contemptuous dealings.	це — Помазаник, збережений Всевишнім до кінця проти них і нечестя їх, Який викриє їх і представить перед ними утиски їх.

For at the first he shall set them alive in his judgment, and when he hath reproved them, he shall destroy them.	Він поставить їх на суд живих і, викривши їх, покарає їх.

For the rest of my people shall he deliver with mercy, those that have been preserved throughout my borders, and he shall make them joyful until the coming of the end, even the day of judgment, whereof I have spoken unto thee from the beginning.	Він з милосердя визволить залишок народу Мого, тих, які збереглися у межах Моїх, і обрадує їх, доки не прийде кінець, день суду, про який Я сказав тобі на початку.

This is the dream that thou sawest, and this is the interpretation thereof:	Такий сон, бачений тобою, і таке значення його.

and thou only hast been meet to know the secret of the Most High.	Ти один був достойний знати цю таємницю Всевишнього.

Therefore write all these things that thou hast seen in a book, and put them in a secret place:	Усе це, бачене тобою, напиши у книзі і поклади у потаємному місці;
38	38
and thou shalt teach them to the wise of thy people, whose hearts thou knowest are able to comprehend and keep these secrets.	і навчи цього мудрих з народу твого, яких серця́ ви́знаєш здатними прийняти і зберігати ці таємниці.
39	39
But wait thou here thyself yet seven days more, that there may be shown unto thee whatsoever it pleaseth the Most High to show thee. And he departed from me.	А ти пробудь тут ще сім днів, щоб тобі показано було, що Всевишньому вгодно буде показати тобі. І відійшов від мене.
40	40
And it came to pass, when all the people saw that the seven days were past, and I had not come again into the city, they gathered them all together, from the least unto the greatest, and came unto me, and spake to me, saying,	Коли після закінчення семи днів весь народ почув, що я не повернувся у місто, зібралися всі від малого до великого і, прийшовши до мене, говорили мені:

What have we offended thee? and what evil have we done against thee, that thou hast utterly forsaken us, and sittest in this place?	чим згрішили ми проти тебе? І чим скривдили тебе, що ти, залишивши нас, сидиш на цьому місці?
42	42
For of all the prophets thou only art left us, as a cluster of the vintage, and as a lamp in a dark place, and as a haven for a ship saved from the tempest.	Ти один із усього народу залишився нам, як гроно від винограду, як світильник у темному місці і як пристань і корабель, урятований від бурі.

Are not the evils which are come to us sufficient?	Невже мало бід, що сталися з нами?
44	44
If thou shalt forsake us, how much better had it been for us, if we also had been consumed in the burning of Zion!	Якщо ти залишиш нас, то краще було б для нас згоріти, коли горів Сион.

For we are not better than they that died there. And they wept with a loud voice. And I answered them, and said,	Бо ми не кращі за тих, які померли там. І плакали вони з голосним воланням. Відповідаючи їм, я сказав:

Be of good comfort, O Israel; and be not sorrowful, thou house of Jacob:	надійся, Ізраїлю, і не тужи, доме Якова;

for the Most High hath you in remembrance, and the Mighty hath not forgotten you forever.	бо пам’ятає про вас Всевишній, і Кріпкий не забув вас у напасті.

As for me, I have not forsaken you, neither am I departed from you: but am come into this place, to pray for the desolation of Zion, and that I might seek mercy for the low estate of your sanctuary.	І я не залишив вас і не пішов від вас, але прийшов на це місце, щоб помолитися за розорений Сион і просити милосердя приниженій святині вашій.

And now go your way every man to his own house, and after these days will I come unto you.	Тепер ідіть кожен у дім свій, і я прийду до вас після цих днів.

So the people went their way into the city, like as I said unto them:	І пішов народ, як я сказав йому, у місто,

but I sat in the field seven days, as the angel commanded me; and in those days I did eat only of the flowers of the field, and had my meat of the herbs.	а я залишався у полі протягом семи днів, як повелено мені, і годувався у ті дні тільки квітами польовими, і трава була мені їжею.
