| Коли цар Давид постарів, увійшов у похилі літа, то покривали його одягом, але він не міг зігрітися. | And king David was old and advanced in days, and they covered him with clothes, and he was not warmed. |
|

|
| І сказали йому слуги його: нехай пошукають для господаря нашого царя молоду дівчину, щоб вона була з царем і доглядала за ним і лежала з ним, — і буде тепло господарю нашому, цареві. | And his servants said, Let them seek for the king a young virgin, and she shall wait on the king, and cherish him, and lie with him, and my lord the king shall be warmed. |

| І шукали красиву дівчину у всіх краях Ізраїльських, і знайшли Ависагу сунамитянку, і привели її до царя. | So they sought for a fair damsel out of all the coasts of Israel; and they found Abisag the Somanite, and they brought her to the king. |
|

|
| Дівчина була дуже красива, і доглядала вона за царем і прислуговувала йому; але цар не пізнав її. | And the damsel was extremely beautiful, and she cherished the king, and ministered to him, but the king knew her not. |
|

|
| Адонія, син Аггифи, загордувавши, говорив: я буду царем. І завів собі колісниці і вершників і п’ятдесят чоловік скороходів. | And Adonias the son of Aggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king; and he prepared for himself chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him. |
|

| Батько ж ніколи не утруднював його запитанням: для чого ти це робиш? Він же був дуже красивий і народився у нього після Авессалома. | And his father never at any time checked him, saying, Why hast thou done thus? and he was also very handsome in appearance, and his mother bore him after Abessalom. |
|

|
| І радився він з Іоавом, сином Саруїним, і з Авиафаром священиком, і вони допомагали Адонії. | And he conferred with Joab the son of Saruia, and with Abiathar the priest, and they followed after Adonias. |
|

|
8
|
| Але священик Садок і Ванея, син Іодаїв, і пророк Нафан, і Семей, і Рисій, і сильні Давидові не були на боці Адонії. | But Sadoc the priest, and Banæas the son of Jodae, and Nathan the prophet, and Semei, and Resi, and the mighty men of David, did not follow Adonias. |

| І заколов Адонія овець і волів і тельців біля каменя Зохелет, що біля джерела Рогель, і запросив усіх братів своїх, синів царя, із усіма юдеянами, які служили у царя. | And Adonias sacrificed sheep and calves and lambs by the stone of Zoelethi, which was near Rogel: and he called all his brethren, and all the adult men of Juda, servants of the king. |

| Пророка ж Нафана і Ванею, і тих сильних, і Соломона, брата свого, не запросив. | But Nathan the prophet, and Banæas, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he did not call. |
|

|
| Тоді Нафан сказав Вирсавії, матері Соломона, говорячи: чи чула ти, що Адонія, син Аггифин, зробився царем, а цар наш Давид не знає про це? | And Nathan spoke to Bersabee the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonias the son of Aggith reigns, and our lord David knows it not? |

|
| Тепер, ось, я раджу тобі: рятуй життя твоє і життя сина твого Соломона. | And now come, let me, I pray, give thee counsel, and thou shalt rescue thy life, and the life of thy son Solomon. |
|

|
| Йди і ввійди до царя Давида і скажи йому: чи не клявся ти, господарю мій царю, рабі твоїй, говорячи: «син твій Соломон буде царем після мене і він сяде на престолі моєму»? Чому ж воцарився Адонія? | Haste, and go in to king David, and thou shalt speak to him, saying, Hast not thou, my lord, O king, sworn to thine handmaid, saying, Thy son Solomon shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then does Adonias reign? |

| І ось, коли ти ще будеш говорити там з царем, ввійду і я слідом за тобою і доповню слова твої. | And behold, while thou art still speaking there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and will confirm thy words. |
|

15
|
| Вирсавія ввійшла до царя в спальню; цар був дуже старий, і Ависага сунамитянка прислуговувала цареві; | So Bersabee went in to the king into the chamber: and the king was very old, and Abisag the Somanite was ministering to the king. |
|

|
| і нахилилася Вирсавія і поклонилася цареві; і сказав цар: що тобі? | And Bersabee bowed, and did obeisance to the king; and the king said, What is thy request? |
|

|

|
| Вона сказала йому: господарю мій царю! ти клявся рабі твоїй Господом Богом твоїм: «син твій Соломон буде царювати після мене і він сяде на престолі моєму». | And she said, My lord, thou didst swear by the Lord thy God to thine handmaid, saying, Thy son Solomon shall reign after me, and shall sit upon my throne. |

| А тепер, ось, Адонія став царем , і ти, господарю мій царю, не знаєш про це. | And now, behold, Adonias reigns, and thou, my lord, O king, knowest it not. |
|

|
19
|
| І заколов він багато волів, тельців і овець, і запросив усіх синів царських і священика Авиафара, і воєначальника Іоава; Соломона ж, раба твого, не запросив. | And he has sacrificed calves and lambs and sheep in abundance, and has called all the king's sons, and Abiathar the priest and Joab the commander-in-chief of the host; but Solomon thy servant he has not called. |

| Але ти, господарю мій, — цар, і очі всіх ізраїльтян звернені на тебе, щоб ти оголосив їм, хто сяде на престолі господаря мого царя після нього; | And thou, my lord, O king,—the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, to tell them who shall sit upon the throne of my lord the king after him. |

| інакше, коли господар мій цар спочине з батьками своїми, впаде звинувачення на мене і на сина мого Соломона. | And it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and Solomon my son shall be offenders. |
|

|
| Коли вона ще говорила з царем, прийшов і пророк Нафан. | And behold, while she was yet talking with the king, Nathan the prophet came. And it was reported to the king, |

|
| І сказали цареві, говорячи: ось Нафан пророк. І увійшов він до царя і поклонився цареві лицем до землі. | Behold, Nathan the prophet is here: and he came in to the king's presence, and did obeisance to the king with his face to the ground. |
|

|

|
| І сказав Нафан: господарю мій царю! чи сказав ти: «Адонія буде царювати після мене і він сяде на престолі моєму»? | And Nathan said, My lord, O king, didst thou say, Adonias shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? |
|

|

|
| Тому що він нині зійшов і заколов багато волів, тельців і овець, і запросив усіх синів царських і воєначальників і священика Авиафара, і ось, вони їдять і п’ють у нього і говорять: нехай живе цар Адонія! | For he has gone down to-day, and has sacrificed calves and lambs and sheep in abundance, and has called all the king's sons, and the chiefs of the army, and Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and they said, Long live king Adonias. |

|
| А мене, раба твого, і священика Садока, і Ванею, сина Іодаєвого, і Соломона, раба твого, не запросив. | But he has not invited me thy servant, and Sadoc the priest, and Banæas the son of Jodae, and Solomon thy servant. |
|

|
| Чи не сталося це з волі господаря мого царя, і чому ти не відкрив рабу твоєму, хто сяде на престолі господаря мого царя після нього? | Has this matter happened by the authority of my lord the king, and hast thou not made known to thy servant who shall sit upon the throne of my lord the king after him? |
|

|
| І відповів цар Давид і сказав: покличте до мене Вирсавію. І увійшла вона і стала перед царем. | And king David answered and said, Call me Bersabee: and she came in before the king, and stood before him. |
|

|
29
|
| І клявся цар і сказав: живий Господь, Який спасав душу мою від усякого лиха! | And the king swore, and said, As the Lord lives who redeemed my soul out of all affliction, |
|

|
30
|
| Як я клявся тобі Господом Богом Ізраїлевим, говорячи, що Соломон, син твій, буде царювати після мене, і він сяде на престолі моєму замість мене, так я і зроблю це сьогодні. | as I swore to thee by the Lord God of Israel, saying, Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead, so will I do this day. |

| І нахилилася Вирсавія лицем до землі, і поклонилася цареві, і сказала: нехай живе господар мій цар Давид повіки! | And Bersabee bowed with her face to the ground, and did obeisance to the king, and said, Let my lord king David live for ever. |
|

|
| І сказав цар Давид: покличте до мене священика Садока і пророка Нафана і Ванею, сина Іодаєвого. І увійшли вони до царя. | And king David said, Call me Sadoc the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Banæas the son of Jodae: and they came in before the king. |
|

|
| І сказав їм цар: візьміть із собою слуг господаря вашого і посадіть Соломона, сина мого, на мула мого, і привезіть його до Гиона, | And the king said to them, Take the servants of your lord with you, and mount my son Solomon upon my own mule, and bring him down to Gion. |
|

|
| і нехай помаже його там Садок священик і Нафан пророк на царя над Ізраїлем, і засурміть трубою і виголосіть: нехай живе цар Соломон! | And there let Sadoc the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him to be king over Israel, and do ye sound the trumpet, and ye shall say, Let king Solomon live. |

|
| Потім проведіть його назад, і він прийде і сяде на престолі моєму; він буде царювати замість мене; йому заповідав я бути вождем Ізраїля й Іуди. | And he shall sit upon my throne, and reign in my stead: and I have given charge that he should be for a prince over Israel and Juda. |
|

|
| І відповів Ванея, син Іодаїв, царю і сказав: амінь, — нехай скаже так Господь Бог господаря мого царя! | And Banæas the son of Jodae answered the king and said, So let it be: may the Lord God of my lord the king confirm it. |
|

|
| Як був Господь Бог з господарем моїм царем, нехай так буде Він і з Соломоном і нехай звеличить престіл його більше за престіл господаря мого царя Давида! | As the Lord was with my lord the king, so let him be with Solomon, and let him exalt his throne beyond the throne of my lord king David. |
|

|
| І пішли Садок священик і Нафан пророк і Ванея, син Іодая, і хелефеї і фелефеї, і посадили Соломона на мула царя Давида, і повезли його до Гиона. | And Sadoc the priest went down, and Nathan the prophet, and Banæas son of Jodae, and the Cherethite, and the Phelethite, and they mounted Solomon upon the mule of king David, and led him away to Gion. |

| І взяв Садок священик ріг з єлеєм зі скинії і помазав Соломона. І засурмили трубою, і весь народ викликував: нехай живе цар Соломон! | And Sadoc the priest took the horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon, and blew the trumpet; and all the people said, Let king Solomon live. |

| І весь народ проводжав Соломона, і грав народ на сопілках, і дуже радів, так що земля розсідалася від криків його. | And all the people went up after him, and they danced in choirs, and rejoiced with great joy, and the earth quaked with their voice. |
|

|
| І почув Адонія і всі запрошені ним, як тільки перестали їсти; а Іоав, почувши звук труби, сказав: від чого цей шум міста, що розхвилювалося? | And Adonias and all his guests heard, and they had just left off eating: and Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, and said, What means the voice of the city in tumult? |

| Ще він говорив, як прийшов Іоанафан, син священика Авиафара. І сказав Адонія: увійди; ти — чесна людина і несеш добру звістку. | While he was yet speaking, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came in: and Adonias said, Come in, for thou art a mighty man, and thou comest to bring glad tidings. |

| І відповів Іонафан і сказав Адонії: так, господар наш цар Давид поставив Соломона царем; | And Jonathan answered and said, Verily our lord king David has made Solomon king: |

|
| і послав цар з ним Садока священика і Нафана пророка, і Ванею, сина Іодая, і хелефеїв і фелефеїв, і вони посадили його на мула царського; | and the king has sent with him Sadoc the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Banæas the son of Jodae, and the Cherethite, and the Phelethite, and they have mounted him on the king's mule; |

| і помазали його Садок священик і Нафан пророк на царя в Гионі, і звідти вирушили з радістю, і прийшло у рух місто. Ось від чого шум, який ви чуєте. | and Sadoc the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him in Gion, and have gone up thence rejoicing, and the city resounded: this is the sound which ye have heard. |

| І Соломон уже сів на царському престолі. | And Solomon is seated upon the throne of the kingdom. |
|

|
| І слуги царя приходили поздоровити господаря нашого царя Давида, говорячи: Бог твій нехай прославить ім’я Соломона більше за твоє ім’я і нехай звеличить престіл його більше за твій престіл. І поклонився цар на ложі своєму, | And the servants of the king have gone in to bless our lord king David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne; and the king worshipped upon his bed. |

|
| і сказав цар так: «благословенний Господь Бог Ізраїлів, Який сьогодні дав [від сімені мого] того, хто сидить на престолі моєму, і очі мої бачать це!» | Moreover thus said the king, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who has this day appointed one of my seed sitting on my throne, and my eyes see it. |

| Тоді злякалися і встали всі запрошені, які були в Адонії, і пішли кожен своєю дорогою. | And all the guests of Adonias were dismayed, and every man went his way. |
|

|
| Адонія ж, боячись Соломона, встав і пішов і схопився за роги жертовника. | And Adonias feared because of Solomon, and arose, and departed, and laid hold on the horns of the altar. |
|

|
51
|
| І донесли Соломону, говорячи: ось, Адонія боїться царя Соломона, і ось, він тримається за роги жертовника, говорячи: нехай поклянеться мені тепер цар Соломон, що він не умертвить раба свого мечем. | And it was reported to Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonias fears king Solomon, and holds the horns of the altar, saying, Let Solomon swear to me this day, that he will not slay his servant with the sword. |

| І сказав Соломон: якщо він буде людиною чесною, то жодна волосина його не впаде на землю; якщо ж знайдеться в ньому лукавство, то помре. | And Solomon said, If he should be a valiant man, there shall not a hair of his fall to the ground; but if evil be found in him, he shall die. |
|

| І послав цар Соломон, і привели його від жертовника. І він прийшов і поклонився цареві Соломону; і сказав йому Соломон: іди в дім свій. | And king Solomon sent, and they brought him away from the altar; and he went in and did obeisance to king Solomon: and Solomon said to him, Go to thy house. |

Chapter 2
|

|
| Наблизився час помирати Давиду, і заповідав він синові своєму Соломону, говорячи: | And the days of David drew near that he should die: and he addressed his son Solomon, saying, I go the way of all the earth: |
|

|
| ось, я відходжу в путь усієї землі, ти ж будь твердим і будь мужнім | but be thou strong, and shew thyself a man; |
|
3
|
3
|
| і зберігай завіт Господа Бога твого, ходячи путями Його і дотримуючись уставів Його і заповідей Його, і визначень Його і постанов Його, як написано в законі Мойсеєвому, щоб бути тобі розсудливим у всьому, що будеш робити, і скрізь, куди звернешся; | and keep the charge of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep the commandments and the ordinances and the judgments which are written in the law of Moses; that thou mayest understand what thou shalt do in all things that I command thee: |

| щоб Господь виконав слово Своє, яке Він сказав про мене, говорячи: «якщо сини твої будуть стежити за путями своїми, щоб ходити переді Мною в істині від усього серця свого і від усієї душі своєї, то не припиниться муж від тебе на престолі Ізраїлевім». | that the Lord may confirm his word which he spoke, saying, If thy children shall take heed to their way to walk before me in truth with all their heart, I promise thee, saying, there shall not fail thee a man on the throne of Israel. |

| Ще: ти знаєш, що зробив мені Іоав, син Саруїн, як учинив він із двома вождями війська ізраїльського, з Авениром, сином Нировим, і Амессаєм, сином Ієферовим, як він умертвив їх і пролив кров бранну під час миру, обагривши кров’ю бранною пояс на стегнах своїх і взуття на ногах своїх: | Moreover thou knowest all that Joab the son of Saruia did to me, what he did to the two captains of the forces of Israel, to Abenner the son of Ner, and to Amessai the son of Jether, that he slew them, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put innocent blood on his girdle that was about his loins, and on his sandal that was on his foot. |

| вчини за мудрістю твоєю, щоб не відпустити сивини його мирно в пекло. | Therefore thou shalt deal with him according to thy wisdom, and thou shalt not bring down his grey hairs in peace to the grave. |
|

|
| А синам Верзеллія галаадитянина зроби милість, щоб вони були між тими, хто годується за твоїм столом, бо вони прийшли до мене, коли я втікав від Авессалома, брата твого. | But thou shalt deal kindly with the sons of Berzelli the Galaadite, and they shall be among those that eat at thy table; for thus they drew nigh to me when I fled from the face of thy brother Abessalom. |

| Ось ще в тебе Семей, син Гери веніамитянина з Бахурима; він лихословив мене тяжким лихослів’ям, коли я йшов у Маханаїм; але він вийшов назустріч мені біля Йордану, і я поклявся йому Господом, говорячи: «я не умертвлю тебе мечем». | And, behold, there is with thee Semei the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Baurim: and he cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went into the camp; and he came down to Jordan to meet me, and I swore to him by the Lord, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword. |

| Ти ж не залиш його безкарним; бо ти людина мудра і знаєш, що тобі зробити з ним, щоб звести сивину його у крові в пекло. | But thou shalt by no means hold him guiltless, for thou art a wise man, and wilt know what thou shalt do to him, and shalt bring down his grey hairs with blood to the grave. |

|
| І спочив Давид з батьками своїми і похований був у місті Давидовому. | And David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David. |
|

11
|
| Царював Давид над Ізраїлем сорок років: у Хевроні царював він сім років і тридцять три роки царював у Єрусалимі. | And the days which David reigned over Israel were forty years; he reigned seven years in Chebron, and thirty-three years in Jerusalem. |
|

|
| І сів Соломон на престолі Давида, батька свого, і царювання його було дуже міцним. | And Solomon sat on the throne of his father David, and his kingdom was established greatly. |
|
13
|
13
|
| І прийшов Адонія, син Аггифи, до Вирсавії, матері Соломона, [і поклонився їй]. Вона сказала: чи з миром прихід твій? І сказав він: з миром. | And Adonias the son of Aggith came in to Bersabee the mother of Solomon, and did obeisance to her: and she said, Dost thou enter peaceably? and he said, Peaceably: |

| І сказав він: у мене є слово до тебе. Вона сказала: говори. | I have business with thee. And she said to him, Say on. |
|

|
| І сказав він: ти знаєш, що царство належало мені, і весь Ізраїль звертав на мене погляди свої, як на майбутнього царя; але царство відійшло від мене і дісталося братові моєму, бо це було йому від Господа; | And he said to her, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and all Israel turned their face toward me for a king; but the kingdom was turned from me and became my brother's: for it was appointed to him from the Lord. |

| тепер я прошу тебе про одне, не відмов мені. Вона сказала йому: говори. | And now I make one request of thee, do not turn away thy face. And Bersabee said to him, Speak on. |
|

|
| І сказав він: прошу тебе, поговори з царем Соломоном, бо він не відмовить тобі, щоб він дав мені Ависагу сунамитянку за дружину. | And he said to her, Speak, I pray thee, to king Solomon, for he will not turn away his face from thee, and let him give me Abisag the Somanite for a wife. |

| І сказала Вирсавія: добре, я поговорю про тебе з царем. | And Bersabee said, Well; I will speak for thee to the king. |
|

|
| І увійшла Вирсавія до царя Соломона говорити йому про Адонію. Цар встав перед нею, і поклонився їй, і сів на престолі своєму. Поставили престіл і для матері царя, і вона сіла праворуч від нього | And Bersabee went in to king Solomon to speak to him concerning Adonias; and the king rose up to meet her, and kissed her, and sat on the throne, and a throne was set for the mother of the king, and she sat on his right hand. |

| і сказала: я маю до тебе одне невелике прохання, не відмов мені. І сказав їй цар: проси, мати моя; я не відмовлю тобі. | And she said to him, I ask of thee one little request; turn not away my face from thee. And the king said to her, Ask, my mother, and I will not reject thee. |
|

|
| І сказала вона: дай Ависагу сунамитянку Адонії, братові твоєму, за дружину. | And she said, Let, I pray thee, Abisag the Somanite be given to Adonias thy brother to wife. |
|

|
| І відповідав цар Соломон і сказав матері своїй: а навіщо ти просиш Ависагу сунамитянку для Адонії? проси йому також і царство; тому що він мій старший брат, і йому священик Авиафар і Іоав, син Саруїн, [воєначальник, друг]. | And king Solomon answered and said to his mother, And why hast thou asked Abisag for Adonias? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is my elder brother, and he has for his companion Abiathar the priest, and Joab the son of Saruia the commander-in-chief. |

| І поклявся цар Соломон Господом, говорячи: те і те нехай зробить зі мною Бог і ще більше зробить, якщо не на свою душу сказав Адонія таке слово; | And king Solomon swore by the Lord, saying, God do so to me, and more also, if it be not that Adonias has spoken this word against his own life. |

|
| нині ж, — живий Господь, Який укріпив мене і посадив мене на престолі Давида, батька мого, і Який влаштував мені дім, як говорив Він, — нині ж Адонія повинен померти. | And now as the Lord lives who has established me, and set me on the throne of my father David, and he has made me a house, as the Lord spoke, this day shall Adonias be put to death. |

| І послав цар Соломон Ванею, сина Іодаєвого, який уразив його, і він помер. | So king Solomon sent by the hand of Banæas the son of Jodae, and he slew him, and Adonias died in that day. |
|

| А священику Авиафару цар сказав: іди в Анафоф на твоє поле; ти гідний смерти, але в даний час я не умертвлю тебе, бо ти носив ковчег Владики Господа перед Давидом, батьком моїм, і терпів усе, що терпів батько мій. | And the king said to Abiathar the priest, Depart thou quickly to Anathoth to thy farm, for thou art worthy of death this day; but I will not slay thee, because thou hast borne the ark of the covenant of the Lord before my father, and because thou wast afflicted in all things wherein my father was afflicted. |

| І відсторонив Соломон Авиафара від священства Господнього, і сповнилося слово Господа, яке сказав Він про дім Ілія в Силомі. | And Solomon removed Abiathar from being a priest of the Lord, that the word of the Lord might be fulfilled, which he spoke concerning the house of Heli in Selom. |

| Чутка про це дійшла до Іоава, — бо Іоав схилявся на бік Адонії, а на бік Соломона не схилявся, — і втік Іоав у скинію Господню і схопився за роги жертовника. | And the report came to Joab son of Saruia; for Joab had turned after Adonias, and he went not after Solomon: and Joab fled to the tabernacle of the Lord, and caught hold of the horns of the altar. |

| І донесли царю Соломону, що Іоав утік у скинію Господню і що він біля жертовника. And king Solomon sent to Joab, saying, What ails thee, that thou hast fled to the altar? and Joab said, Because I was afraid of thee, and fled for refuge to the Lord. And Solomon sent Banæas son of Jodae, saying, Go and slay him, and bury him. |

| і знай, що в той день, у який ти вийдеш і перейдеш потік Кедрон, неодмінно помреш; кров твоя буде на голові твоїй. | And it shall come to pass in the day that thou shalt go forth and cross over the brook Kedron, know assuredly that thou shalt certainly die: thy blood shall be upon thine head. And the king caused him to swear in that day. |

| І сказав Семей цареві: добре; як наказав господар мій цар, так зробить раб твій. І жив Семей в Єрусалимі довгий час. | And Semei said to the king, Good is the word that thou hast spoken, my lord O king: thus will thy servant do. And Semei dwelt in Jerusalem three years. |

| Але через три роки трапилося, що у Семея двоє рабів утекли до Анхуса, сина Маахи, царя Гефського. І сказали Семею, говорячи: ось, раби твої в Гефі. | And it came to pass after the three years, that two servants of Semei ran away to Anchus son of Maacha king of Geth: and it was told Semei, saying, Behold, thy servants are in Geth. |

| І встав Семей, і осідлав осла свого, і вирушив у Геф до Анхуса шукати рабів своїх. І повернувся Семей і привів рабів своїх з Гефа. | And Semei rose up, and saddled his ass, and went to Geth to Anchus to seek out his servants: and Semei went, and brought his servants out of Geth. |

| І донесли Соломону, що Семей ходив з Єрусалима у Геф і повернувся. | And it was told Solomon, saying, Semei is gone out of Jerusalem to Geth, and has brought back his servants. |

| І пославши, покликав цар Семея і сказав йому: чи не клявся я тобі Господом і чи не оголошував тобі, говорячи: «знай, що в той день, у який ти вийдеш і підеш куди-небудь, неодмінно помреш»? і ти сказав мені: «добре»; | And the king sent and called Semei, and said to him, Did I not adjure thee by the Lord, and testify to thee, saying, In whatsoever day thou shalt go out of Jerusalem, and go to the right or left, know certainly that thou shalt assuredly die? |

| навіщо ж ти не дотримав наказу, який я дав тобі перед Господом із клятвою? | And why hast thou not kept the oath of the Lord, and the commandment which I commanded thee? |

|
| І сказав цар Семею: ти знаєш і знає серце твоє все зло, яке ти зробив батькові моєму Давиду; нехай же поверне Господь злість твою на голову твою! | And the king said to Semei, Thou knowest all thy mischief which thy heart knows, which thou didst to David my father: and the Lord has recompensed thy mischief on thine own head. |

| а цар Соломон нехай буде благословенний, і престіл Давида нехай буде непохитним перед Господом повіки! | And king Solomon is blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before the Lord for ever. |

| і повелів цар Ванеї, синові Іодаєвому, і він пішов і вразив Семея, і той помер. | And Solomon commanded Banæas the son of Jodae, and he went forth and slew him. |

Тисячу всепалень підніс Соломон на тім жертовнику. | And he arose and went to Gabaon to sacrifice there, for that was the highest place, and great: Solomon offered a whole-burnt-offering of a thousand victims on the altar in Gabaon. |

| У Гаваоні явився Господь Соломону уві сні вночі, і сказав Бог: проси, що дати тобі. | And the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and the Lord said to Solomon, Ask some petition for thyself. |

| І сказав йому Бог: за те, що ти просив цього і не просив собі довгого життя, не просив собі багатства, не просив собі душ ворогів твоїх, але просив собі розуму, щоб уміти судити, — | And the Lord said to him, Because thou hast asked this thing of me, and hast not asked for thyself long life, and hast not asked wealth, nor hast asked the lives of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to hear judgment; |

| ось, Я зроблю за словом твоїм: ось, Я даю тобі серце мудре і розумне, так що подібного до тебе не було раніше тебе, і після тебе не постане подібний до тебе; | behold, I have done according to thy word: behold, I have given thee an understanding and wise heart: there has not been any one like thee before thee, and after thee there shall not arise one like thee. |

| І сказала одна жінка: о, господарю мій! я і ця жінка живемо в одному домі; і я народила при ній у цьому домі; | And the one woman said, Hear me, my lord; I and this woman dwelt in one house, and we were delivered in the house. |

|
| на третій день після того, як я народила, народила і ця жінка; і були ми разом, і в домі нікого стороннього з нами не було; тільки ми дві були в домі; | And it came to pass on the third day after I was delivered, this woman also was delivered: and we were together; and there was no one with us besides our two selves in the house. |

| І сказав цар: подайте мені меч. І принесли меч до царя. | And the king said, Fetch a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. |

| І сказав цар: розсічіть живе дитя надвоє і віддайте половину одній і половину другій. | And the king said, Divide the live child, the suckling, in two; and give half of it to one, and half of it to the other. |

| І відповіла та жінка, син якої був живий, царю, бо схвилювалося все нутро її від жалю до сина свого: о, господарю мій! віддайте їй цю дитину живу і не умертвляйте її. А інша говорила: нехай же не буде ні мені, ні тобі, рубайте. | And the woman whose the living child was, answered and said to the king, (for her bowels yearned over her son) and she said, I pray thee, my lord, give her the child, and in nowise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor hers; divide it. |

| І відповів цар і сказав: віддайте цій живе дитя, і не умертвляйте його: вона — його мати. | Then the king answered and said, Give the child to her that said, ‘Give it to her, and by no means slay it:’ she is its mother. |

| І почув весь Ізраїль про суд, як розсудив цар; і стали боятися царя, тому що побачили, що мудрість Божа в ньому, щоб чинити суд. | And all Israel heard this judgment which the king judged, and they feared before the king; because they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to execute judgment. |

| І було у Соломона дванадцять приставників над усім Ізраїлем, і вони постачали продовольство цареві і дому його; кожен повинен був постачати продовольство на один місяць у рік. | And Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, to provide for the king and his household; each one's turn came to supply for a month in the year. |

|
| І було у Соломона сорок тисяч стійл для коней колісничних і дванадцять тисяч для кінноти. | |
|

|
|

| і говорив він про дерева, від кедра, що в Ливані, до ісопа, що виростає зі стіни; говорив і про тварин, і про птахів, і про плазунів, і про риб. | |

|
|
| І приходили від усіх народів послухати мудрості Соломона, від усіх царів земних, які чули про мудрість його. | |

| І послав Хирам, цар Тирський, слуг своїх до Соломона, коли почув, що його помазали на царя на місце батька його; бо Хирам був другом Давида у все життя. | And thus the officers provided king Solomon: and they execute every one in his month all the orders for the table of the king, they omit nothing. And they carried the barley and the straw for the horses and the chariots to the place where the king might be, each according to his charge. |

| І послав також і Соломон до Хирама сказати: | And these were the requisite supplies for Solomon: in one day thirty measures of fine flour, and sixty measures of fine pounded meal, |

| ти знаєш, що Давид, батько мій, не міг побудувати дім імені Господа Бога свого через війни з навколишніми народами, доки Господь не підкорив їх під стопи ніг його; | and ten choice calves, and twenty pastured oxen, and a hundred sheep, besides stags, and choice fatted does. |

| нині ж Господь Бог мій дарував мені спокій звідусюди: немає супротивника і немає більше перепон; | For he had dominion on this side the river, and he was at peace on all sides round about. |
|

|
| і ось, я маю намір побудувати дім імені Господа Бога мого, як сказав Господь батькові моєму Давиду, говорячи: «син твій, якого Я посаджу замість тебе на престолі твоєму, він побудує дім імені Моєму»; | |
|
6
|
|
| отже, накажи нарубати для мене кедрів Ливану; і ось, раби мої будуть разом із твоїми рабами, і я буду давати тобі плату за рабів твоїх, яку ти призначиш; бо ти знаєш, що в нас немає людей, які вміли б рубати дерева так, як сидоняни. | |

| Коли почув Хирам слова Соломона, дуже зрадів і сказав: благословенний нині Господь, Який дав Давиду сина мудрого для управління цим численним народом! | |
|
8
|
|
| І послав Хирам до Соломона сказати: я вислухав те, за чим ти посилав до мене, і виконаю все бажання твоє про дерева кедрові і дерева кипарисові; | |

| І прибудував до всього храму бічні кімнати висотою в п’ять ліктів; вони прикріплені були до храму за допомогою кедрових колод. | And he made the partitions through all the house, each five cubits high, and enclosed each partition with cedar boards. |

| Так звершена вся робота, яку виконав цар Соломон для храму Господнього. І приніс Соломон посвячене Давидом, батьком його; срібло і золото і речі віддав у скарбниці храму Господнього. | |

| Тоді скликав Соломон старійшин Ізраїлевих і всіх начальників колін, глав поколінь синів Ізраїлевих, до царя Соломона в Єрусалим, щоб перенести ковчег завіту Господнього з міста Давидового, тобто Сиона. | And it came to pass when Solomon had finished building the house of the Lord and his own house after twenty years, then king Solomon assembled all the elders of Israel in Sion, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David, this is Sion, |

| І зібралися до царя Соломона на свято всі ізраїльтяни в місяці Афанимі, який є сьомий місяць. | in the month of Athanin. |
|

|
| І прийшли усі старійшини Ізраїлеві; і підняли священики ковчег, | And the priests took up the ark, |
|
4
|
4
|
| і понесли ковчег Господній і скинію зібрання і всі священні речі, що були в скинії; і несли їх священики і левити. | and the tabernacle of testimony, and the holy furniture that was in the tabernacle of testimony. |
|

|
5
|
| А цар Соломон і з ним уся громада Ізраїлева, яка зібралася до нього, йшли перед ковчегом, приносячи жертви з дрібної і великої худоби, яких неможливо порахувати і визначити, через велику кількість їх. | And the king and all Israel were occupied before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, without number. |

| І внесли священики ковчег завіту Господнього на місце його, у давир храму, у Святе Святих, під крила херувимів. | And the priests bring in the ark into its place, into the oracle of the house, even into the holy of holies, under the wings of the cherubs. |

| Бо херувими простягали крила над місцем ковчега, і покривали херувими зверху ковчег і жердини його. | For the cherubs spread out their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubs covered the ark and its holy things above. |
|

|
| І висунулися жердини так, що головки жердини видні були зі святилища перед давиром, але не виходили назовні; вони там і до цього дня. | And the holy staves projected, and the ends of the holy staves appeared out of the holy places in front of the oracle, and were not seen without. |
|

|
| В ковчезі нічого не було, крім двох кам’яних скрижалей, які поклав туди Мойсей на Хориві, коли Господь уклав завіт із синами Ізраїлевими, після виходу їх із землі Єгипетської. | There was nothing in the ark except the two tables of stone, the tables of the covenant which Moses put there in Choreb, which tables the Lord made as a covenant with the children of Israel in their going forth from the land of Egypt. |

| Коли священики вийшли зі святилища, хмара наповнила дім Господній; | And it came to pass when the priests departed out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house. |

| і не могли священики стояти на служінні, через хмару, бо слава Господня наповнила храм Господній. | And the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, because the glory of the Lord filled the house. |
|

|
|
| Тоді сказав Соломон: Господь сказав, що Він благоволить жити в імлі; | |
|
13
|
|
| я побудував храм на оселю Твою, місце, щоб перебувати Тобі повіки. | |
|
14
|

|
| І повернувся цар лицем своїм, і благословив усе зібрання ізраїльтян; все зібрання ізраїльтян стояло, — | And the king turned his face, and the king blessed all Israel, (and the whole assembly of Israel stood:) |

|
| і сказав: благословенний Господь Бог Ізраїлів, Який сказав Своїми вустами Давиду, батькові моєму, і нині виконав рукою Своєю! Він говорив: | and he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel to-day, who spoke by his mouth concerning David my father, and has fulfilled it with his hands, saying, |

| «з того дня, як Я вивів народ Мій Ізраїля з Єгипту, Я не обрав міста в жодному з колін Ізраїлевих, щоб побудований був дім, у якому перебувало б ім’я Моє; [але обрав Єрусалим для перебування в ньому імені Мого] й обрав Давида, щоб бути йому над народом Моїм Ізраїлем». | From the day that I brought out my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city in any one tribe of Israel to build a house, so that my name should be there: but I chose Jerusalem that my name should be there, and I chose David to be over my people Israel. |

| У Давида, батька мого, було на серці побудувати храм імені Господа Бога Ізраїлевого; | And it was in the heart of my father to build a house to the name of the Lord God of Israel. |

| але Господь сказав Давиду, батькові моєму: «у тебе є на серці побудувати храм імені Моєму; добре, що це в тебе лежить на серці; | And the Lord said to David my father, Forasmuch as it came into thine heart to build a house to my name, thou didst well that it came upon thine heart. |
|

|
19
|
| однак не ти побудуєш храм, а син твій, який вийшов із стегон твоїх, він побудує храм імені Моєму». | Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house, but thy son that has proceeded out of thy bowels, he shall build the house to my name. |
|

|
| І виконав Господь слово Своє, яке промовив. Я вступив на місце батька мого Давида і сів на престолі Ізраїлевім, як сказав Господь, і побудував храм імені Господа Бога Ізраїлевого; | And the Lord has confirmed the word that he spoke, and I am risen up in the place of my father David, and I have sat down on the throne of Israel, as the Lord spoke, and I have built the house to the name of the Lord God of Israel. |

| і приготував там місце для ковчега, в якому завіт Господа, укладений Ним з батьками нашими, коли Він вивів їх із землі Єгипетської. | And I have set there a place for the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord, which the Lord made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt. |

| І став Соломон перед жертовником Господнім перед усім зібранням ізраїльтян, і підняв руки свої до неба, | And Solomon stood up in front of the altar before all the congregation of Israel; and he spread out his hands toward heaven: |
|

|
| і сказав: Господи Боже Ізраїлів! немає подібного до Тебе Бога на небесах вгорі і на землі внизу; Ти зберігаєш завіт і милість до рабів Твоїх, які ходять перед Тобою всім серцем своїм. | and he said, Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in heaven above and on the earth beneath, keeping covenant and mercy with thy servant who walks before thee with all his heart; |

| Ти виконав рабу Твоєму Давиду, батькові моєму, те, що говорив йому; що промовив Ти вустами Твоїми, те в цей день звершив рукою Твоєю. | which thou hast kept toward thy servant David my father: for thou hast spoken by thy mouth and thou hast fulfilled it with thine hands, as at this day. |

| І нині, Господи Боже Ізраїлів, виконай рабу Твоєму Давиду, батькові моєму, те, що говорив Ти йому, сказавши: «не припиниться у тебе перед лицем Моїм той, хто сидить на престолі Ізраїлевім, якщо тільки сини твої будуть триматися путі своєї, ходячи переді Мною так, як ти ходив переді Мною». | And now, O Lord God of Israel, keep for thy servant David my father, the promises which thou hast spoken to him, saying, There shall not be taken from thee a man sitting before me on the throne of Israel, provided only thy children shall take heed to their ways, to walk before me as thou hast walked before me. |

| І нині, Боже Ізраїлів, нехай буде вірне слово Твоє, яке Ти промовив рабу Твоєму Давиду, батькові моєму! | And now, O Lord God of Israel, let, I pray thee, thy word to David my father be confirmed. |

| Воістину, чи Богові жити на землі? Небо і небо небес не вміщають Тебе, тим менше цей храм, який я побудував [імені Твоєму]; | But will God indeed dwell with men upon the earth? if the heaven and heaven of heavens will not suffice thee, how much less even this house which I have built to thy name? |

| але зглянься на молитву раба Твого і на прохання його, Господи Боже мій; почуй благання і молитву, якою раб Твій благає Тебе нині. | Yet, O Lord God of Israel, thou shalt look upon my petition, to hear the prayer which thy servant prays to thee in thy presence this day, |

| Нехай будуть очі Твої відкриті на храм цей день і ніч, на це місце, про яке Ти сказав: «Моє ім’я буде там»; почуй молитву, якою буде молитися раб Твій на місці цім. | that thine eyes may be open toward this house day and night, even toward the place of which thou saidst, My name shall be there, to hear the prayer which thy servant prays at this place day and night. |

| Почуй моління раба Твого і народу Твого Ізраїля, коли вони будуть молитися на місці цьому; почуй на місці перебування Твого, на небесах, почуй і помилуй. | And thou shalt hearken to the prayer of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall pray toward this place; and thou shalt hear in thy dwelling-place in heaven, and thou shalt do and be gracious. |

| Коли хто згрішить проти ближнього свого, і вимагатиме від нього клятви, щоб він поклявся, і для клятви прийдуть до жертовника Твого у храм цей, | Whatsoever trespasses any one shall commit against his neighbour,—and if he shall take upon him an oath so that he should swear, and he shall come and make confession before thine altar in this house, |

| тоді Ти почуй з неба і вчини суд над рабами Твоїми, звинувать винного, поклавши вчинок його на голову його, і виправдай правого, воздавши йому за правдою його. | then shalt thou hear from heaven, and do, and thou shalt judge thy people Israel, that the wicked should be condemned, to recompense his way upon his head; and to justify the righteous, to give to him according to his righteousness. |

| Коли народ Твій Ізраїль буде вражений ворогом за те, що згрішив перед Тобою, і коли вони звернуться до Тебе, і сповíдають ім’я Твоє, і будуть просити і благати Тебе в цьому храмі, | When thy people Israel falls before enemies, because they shall sin against thee, and they shall return and confess to thy name, and they shall pray and supplicate in this house, |

| тоді Ти почуй з неба і прости гріх народу Твого Ізраїля, і поверни їх у землю, яку Ти дав батькам їхнім. | then shalt thou hear from heaven, and be gracious to the sins of thy people Israel, and thou shalt restore them to the land which thou gavest to their fathers. |

|
| Коли закриється небо і не буде дощу за те, що вони згрішили перед Тобою, і коли помоляться на місці цьому і сповідають ім’я Твоє і навернуться від гріха свого, бо Ти смирив їх, | When the heaven is restrained, and there is no rain, because they shall sin against thee, and they shall pray toward this place, and shall make confession to thy name, and shall turn from their sins when thou shalt have humbled them, |

| тоді почуй з неба і прости гріх рабів Твоїх і народу Твого Ізраїля, указавши їм добру путь, по якій іти, і пошли дощ на землю Твою, яку Ти дав народу Твоєму в спадщину. | then thou shalt hear from heaven, and be merciful to the sins of thy servant and of thy people Israel; for thou shalt shew them the good way to walk in it, and thou shalt give rain upon the earth which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance. |

| Чи буде на землі голод, чи буде моровиця, чи буде палючий вітер, іржа, сарана, черва, чи ворог буде тіснити його на землі його, чи буде яка біда, яка хвороба, — | If there should be famine, if there should be death, because there should be blasting, locust, or if there be mildew, and if their enemy oppress them in any one of their cities, with regard to every calamity, every trouble, |

| всяку молитву, всяке прохання, яке буде від якої-небудь людини у всьому народі Твоєму Ізраїлі, коли вони відчують біду в серці своєму і простягнуть руки свої до храму цього, | every prayer, every supplication whatever shall be made by any man, as they shall know each the plague of his heart, and shall spread abroad his hands to this house, |

| Ти почуй з неба, з місця оселі Твоєї, і помилуй; сотвори і воздай кожному за путями його, бо Ти знаєш серце його, тому що Ти один знаєш серця всіх синів людських: | then shalt thou hearken from heaven, out of thine established dwelling-place, and shalt be merciful, and shalt do, and recompense to every man according to his ways, as thou shalt know his heart, for thou alone knowest the heart of all the children of men: |

| щоб вони боялися Тебе в усі дні, доки живуть на землі, яку Ти дав батькам нашим. | that they may fear thee all the days that they live upon the land, which thou hast given to our fathers. |
|

41
|
| Якщо й іноплемінник, що не від Твого народу Ізраїля, прийде з землі далекої заради імені Твого, — | And for the stranger who is not of thy people, |
|
42
|
42
|
| бо і вони почують про Твоє ім’я велике і про Твою руку кріпку і про Твою силу простерту, — і прийде він і помолиться біля храму цього, | when they shall come and pray toward this place, |
|
43
|
43
|
| почуй з неба, з місця оселі Твоєї, і зроби все, про що буде взивати до Тебе іноплемінник, щоб усі народи землі знали ім’я Твоє, щоб боялися Тебе, як народ Твій Ізраїль, щоб знали, що ім’ям Твоїм називається храм цей, який я побудував. | then shalt thou hear them from heaven, out of thine established dwelling-place, and thou shalt do according to all that the stranger shall call upon thee for, that all the nations may know thy name, and fear thee, as do thy people Israel, and may know that thy name has been called on this house which I have builded. |

| Коли вийде народ Твій на війну проти ворога свого дорогою, якою Ти пошлеш його, і буде молитися Господу, обернувшись до міста, яке Ти обрав, і до храму, який я побудував імені Твоєму, | If it be that thy people shall go forth to war against their enemies in the way by which thou shalt turn them, and pray in the name of the Lord toward the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built to thy name, |

| тоді почуй з неба молитву їхню і прохання їхнє і зроби, що потрібно для них. | then shalt thou hear from heaven their supplication and their prayer, and shalt execute judgment for them. |

|
| Коли вони згрішать перед Тобою, — бо немає людини, яка не грішила б, — і Ти прогніваєшся на них і віддаси їх ворогам, і ті, що полонили їх, відведуть їх у ворожу землю, далеку або близьку; | If it be that they shall sin against thee, (for there is not a man who will not sin,) and thou shalt bring them and deliver them up before their enemies, and they that take them captive shall carry them to a land far or near, |

| і коли вони в землі, в якій будуть знаходитися в полоні, ввійдуть у себе і звернуться і будуть молитися Тобі в землі тих, хто полонив їх, промовляючи: «ми згрішили, вчинили беззаконня, ми винні»; | and they shall turn their hearts in the land whither they have been carried captives, and turn in the land of their sojourning, and supplicate thee, saying, We have sinned, we have done unjustly, we have transgressed, |

| і коли звернуться до Тебе всім серцем своїм і всією душею своєю в землі ворогів, які полонили їх, і будуть молитися Тобі, звернувшись до землі своєї, яку Ти дав батькам їхнім, до міста, яке Ти обрав, і до храму, який я побудував імені Твоєму, | and they shall turn to thee with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the land of their enemies whither thou hast carried them captives, and shall pray to thee toward their land which thou hast given to their fathers, and the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built to thy name: |

| тоді почуй з неба, з місця оселі Твоєї, молитву і прохання їхні і вчини, що потрібно для них; | then shalt thou hear from heaven thine established dwelling-place, |

| і прости народу Твоєму, в чому він згрішив перед Тобою, і всі провини його, які він зробив перед Тобою, і пробуди співстраждання до них у тих, хто полонив їх, щоб вони були милостиві до них: | and thou shalt be merciful to their unrighteousness wherein they have trespassed against thee, and according to all their transgressions wherewith they have transgressed against thee, and thou shalt cause them to be pitied before them that carried them captives, and they shall have compassion on them: |

| бо вони Твій народ і Твій наділ, який Ти вивів з Єгипту, із залізної печі. | for they are thy people and thine inheritance, whom thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, out of the midst of the furnace of iron. |

| Нехай будуть [вуха Твої і] очі Твої відкриті на молитву раба Твого і на молитву народу Твого Ізраїля, щоб чути їх завжди, коли вони будуть закликати Тебе, | And let thine eyes and thine ears be opened to the supplication of thy servant, and to the supplication of thy people Israel, to hearken to them in all things for which they shall call upon thee. |

| бо Ти відокремив їх Собі в наділ з усіх народів землі, як Ти вирік через Мойсея, раба Твого, коли вивів батьків наших з Єгипту, Владико Господи! | Because thou hast set them apart for an inheritance to thyself out of all the nations of the earth, as thou spokest by the hand of thy servant Moses, when thou broughtest our fathers out of the land of Egypt, O Lord God.— |

| Коли Соломон промовив усі ці моління і прохання до Господа, тоді встав з колін від жертовника Господнього, руки ж його були підняті до неба. | And it came to pass when Solomon had finished praying to the Lord all this prayer and supplication, that he rose up from before the altar of the Lord, after having knelt upon his knees, and his hands were spread out towards heaven. |

| І стоячи благословив усе зібрання ізраїльтян, гучним голосом промовляючи: | And he stood, and blessed all the congregation of Israel with a loud voice, saying, |

|
| благословенний Господь [Бог], Який дав спокій народу Своєму Ізраїлю, як говорив! не залишилося невиконаним жодне слово з усіх благих слів Його, які Він вирік через раба Свого Мойсея; | Blessed be the Lord this day, who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he said: there has not failed one word among all his good words which he spoke by the hand of his servant Moses. |

| нехай буде з нами Господь Бог наш, як був Він з батьками нашими, нехай не залишить нас, нехай не покине нас, | May the Lord our God be with us, as he was with our fathers; let him not desert us nor turn from us, |

| схиляючи до Себе серця наші, щоб ми ходили всіма путями Його і дотримувалися заповідей Його й уставів Його і законів Його, які Він заповів батькам нашим; | that he may turn our hearts toward him to walk in all his ways, and to keep all his commandments, and his ordinances which he commanded our fathers. |

| і нехай будуть слова ці, якими я молився [нині] перед Господом, близькі до Господа Бога нашого день і ніч, щоб Він робив, що потрібно для раба Свого, і що потрібно для народу Свого Ізраїля, з дня у день, | And let these words, which I have prayed before the Lord our God, be near to the Lord our God day and night, to maintain the cause of thy servant, and the cause of thy people Israel for ever. |

| щоб усі народи пізнали, що Господь є Бог і немає, крім Нього; | That all the nations of the earth may know that the Lord God, he is God, and there is none beside. |

|
| нехай буде серце ваше цілком віддане Господу Богу нашому, щоб ходити за уставами Його і дотримуватися заповідей Його, як нині. | And let our hearts be perfect toward the Lord our God, to walk also holily in his ordinances, and to keep his commandments, as at this day. |
|

|
| І цар і всі ізраїльтяни з ним принесли жертву Господу. | And the king and all the children of Israel offered sacrifice before the Lord. |
|

63
|
| І приніс Соломон у мирну жертву, яку приніс він Господу, двадцять дві тисячі великої худоби і сто двадцять тисяч дрібної худоби. Так освятили храм Господу цар і всі сини Ізраїлеві. | And king Solomon offered for the sacrifices of peace-offering which he sacrificed to the Lord, two and twenty thousand oxen, an hundred and twenty thousand sheep: and the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the Lord. |

| У той же день освятив цар середню частину двору, що перед храмом Господнім, зробивши там всепалення і хлібне приношення і вознісши жир мирних жертв, тому що мідний жертовник, який перед Господом, був малий для розміщення всепалення і хлібного приношення і жиру мирних жертв. | In that day the king consecrated the middle of the court in the front of the house of the Lord; for there he offered the whole-burnt-offering, and the sacrifices, and the fat of the peace-offerings, because the brazen altar which was before the Lord was too little to bear the whole-burnt-offering and the sacrifices of peace-offerings. |

| І зробив Соломон у цей час свято, і весь Ізраїль з ним, — велике зібрання, яке зійшлося від входу в Емаф до ріки Єгипетської перед Господом Богом нашим; [і їли, і пили, і молилися перед Господом Богом нашим біля побудованого храму] — сім днів і ще сім днів, чотирнадцять днів. | And Solomon kept the feast in that day, and all Israel with him, even a great assembly from the entering in of Hemath to the river of Egypt, before the Lord our God in the house which he built, eating and drinking, and rejoicing before the Lord our God seven days. |

| У восьмий день Соломон відпустив народ. І благословили царя і пішли в намети свої, радіючи і веселячись у серці за все добро, яке зробив Господь рабові Своєму Давиду і народові Своєму Ізраїлю. | And on the eighth day he sent away the people: and they blessed the king, and each departed to his tabernacle rejoicing, and their heart was glad because of the good things which the Lord had done to his servant David, and to Israel his people. |

| Після того, як Соломон скінчив будівництво храму Господнього і дому царського й усе, що Соломон бажав зробити, | And it came to pass when Solomon had finished building the house of the Lord, and the king's house, and all the work of Solomon, whatever he wished to perform, |

|
| явився Соломону Господь удруге, як явився йому в Гаваоні. | that the Lord appeared to Solomon a second time, as he appeared in Gabaon. |
|

|
3
|
| І сказав йому Господь: Я почув молитву твою і прохання твоє, про що ти просив Мене; [зробив усе за молитвою твоєю]. Я освятив цей храм, який ти побудував, щоб перебувати імені Моєму там повік; і будуть очі Мої і серце Моє там в усі дні. | And the Lord said to him, I have heard the voice of thy prayer, and thy supplication which thou madest before me: I have done for thee according to all thy prayer: I have hallowed this house which thou hast built to put my name there for ever, and mine eyes and my heart shall be there always. |

| І якщо ти будеш ходити перед лицем Моїм, як ходив батько твій Давид, у чистоті серця й у правоті, виконуючи все, що Я заповів тобі, і якщо будеш зберігати устави Мої і закони Мої, | And if thou wilt walk before me as David thy father walked, in holiness of heart and uprightness, and so as to do according to all that I commanded him, and shalt keep my ordinances and my commandments: |

| то Я поставлю царський престіл твій над Ізраїлем повік, як Я сказав батькові твоєму Давиду, говорячи: «не припиниться в тебе той, хто сидить на престолі Ізраїлевім». | then will I establish the throne of thy kingdom in Israel for ever, as I spoke to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to rule in Israel. |

| Якщо ж ви і сини ваші відступите від Мене і не будете дотримуватися заповідей Моїх і уставів Моїх, які Я дав вам, і підете і станете служити іншим богам і поклонятися їм, | But if ye or your children do in any wise revolt from me, and do not keep my commandments and my ordinances, which Moses set before you, and ye go and serve other gods, and worship them: |

| то Я знищу Ізраїля з лиця землі, яку Я дав йому, і храм, який Я освятив імені Моєму, відкину від лиця Мого, і буде Ізраїль притчею і посміховиськом у всіх народів. | then will I cut off Israel from the land which I have given them, and this house which I have consecrated to my name I will cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a desolation and a by-word to all nations. |

| І про храм цей високий усякий, хто проходитиме мимо нього, вжахнеться і свисне, і скаже: «за що Господь зробив так із цією землею і з цим храмом?» | And this house, which is high, shall be so that every one that passes by it shall be amazed, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Wherefore has the Lord done thus to this land, and to this house? |

| Синів же Ізраїлевих Соломон не робив робітниками, але вони були його воїнами, його слугами, його вельможами, його воєначальниками і вождями його колісниць і його вершників. | |

|
|
| Ось головні приставники над роботами Соломоновими: тих, що управляли народом, який виконував роботи, було п’ятсот п’ятдесят. | |

|

| І прийшла вона в Єрусалим з дуже великим багатством: верблюди нав’ючені були пахощами і великою кількістю золота і коштовного каміння; і прийшла до Соломона і розмовляла з ним про все, що було у неї на серці. | And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train; and there came camels bearing spices, and very much gold, and precious stones: and she came in to Solomon, and told him all that was in her heart. |

| І пояснив їй Соломон усі слова її, і не було нічого невідомого царю, чого він не пояснив би їй. | And Solomon answered all her questions: and there was not a question overlooked by the king which he did not answer her. |

І не могла вона більше утриматися | and the provision of Solomon and the sitting of his attendants, and the standing of his servants, and his raiment, and his cup-bearers, and his whole-burnt-offering which he offered in the house of the Lord, and she was utterly amazed. |

Господь, з вічної любови Своєї до Ізраїля, поставив тебе царем, чинити суд і правду. | Blessed be the Lord thy God, who has taken pleasure in thee, to set thee upon the throne of Israel, because the Lord loved Israel to establish him for ever; and he has made thee king over them, to execute judgment with justice, and in their causes. |

| І подарувала вона царю сто двадцять талантів золота і велику кількість пахощів і коштовне каміння; ніколи ще не приходило такої великої кількості пахощів, як подарувала цариця Савська царю Соломону. | And she gave to Solomon a hundred and twenty talents of gold, and very many spices, and precious stones: there had not come any other spices so abundant as those which the queen of Saba gave to king Solomon. |

| І зробив цар Соломон двісті великих щитів з кованого золота, по шістсот сиклів пішло на кожен щит; | And Solomon made three hundred spears of beaten gold: three hundred shekels of gold were upon one spear. |

| і триста менших щитів з кованого золота, по три міни золота пішло на кожен щит; і поставив їх цар у домі з ливанського дерева. | And three hundred shields of beaten gold: and three pounds of gold were in one shield: and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon. |

| І зробив цар великий престіл зі слонової кості й обклав його чистим золотом; | And the king made a great ivory throne, and gilded it with pure gold. |

|

У такий же спосіб вони руками своїми доставляли все це царям хеттейським і царям арамейським. | And that which proceeded out of Egypt went up thus, even a chariot for a hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for fifty shekels of silver: and thus for all the kings of the Chettians, and the kings of Syria, they came out by sea. |

| І полюбив цар Соломон багато чужоземних жінок, крім дочки фараонової, моавитянок, аммонитянок, ідумеянок, сидонянок, хеттеянок, | And king Solomon was a lover of women. And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines. And he took strange women, as well as the daughter of Pharao, Moabitish, Ammanitish women, Syrians and Idumeans, Chettites, and Amorites; |

| з тих народів, про які Господь сказав синам Ізраїлевим: «не входьте до них, і вони нехай не входять до вас, щоб вони не схилили серця вашого до своїх богів»; до них приліпився Соломон любов’ю. | of the nations concerning whom the Lord forbade the children of Israel, saying, Ye shall not go in to them, and they shall not come in to you, lest they turn away your hearts after their idols: Solomon clave to these in love. |

|

And the strange women turned away his heart after their gods. |

| Так зробив він для всіх своїх чужоземних дружин, які кадили і приносили жертви своїм богам. | And Solomon did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord: he went not after the Lord, as David his father. |

| і заповів йому, щоб він не тримався інших богів; але він не виконав того, що заповів йому Господь [Бог]. | and charged him concerning this matter, by no means to go after other gods, but to take heed to do what the Lord God commanded him; neither was his heart perfect with the Lord, according to the heart of David his father. |

| І сказав Господь Соломону: за те, що так у тебе робиться, і ти не зберіг завіту Мого й уставів Моїх, які Я заповів тобі, Я відторгну від тебе царство і віддам його рабові твоєму; | And the Lord said to Solomon, Because it has been thus with thee, and thou hast not kept my commandments and my ordinances which I commanded thee, I will surely rend thy kingdom out of thy hand, and give it to thy servant. |

| але в дні твої Я не зроблю цього заради Давида, батька твого; від руки сина твого відніму його; | Only in thy days I will not do it for David thy father's sake: but I will take it out of the hand of thy son. |

| І підняв Господь супротивника на Соломона, Адера ідумеянина, з царського Ідумейського роду. | And the Lord raised up an enemy to Solomon, Ader the Idumæan, and Esrom son of Eliadaë who dwelt in Raama, and Adadezer king of Suba his master; (and men gathered to him, and he was head of the conspiracy, and he seized on Damasec,) and they were adversaries to Israel all the days of Solomon: and Ader the Idumæan was of the seed royal in Idumæa. |

And it came to pass when Jeroboam son of Nabat heard of it, even while he was yet in Egypt as he fled from the face of Solomon and dwelt in Egypt, he straightway comes into his own city, into the land of Sarira in the mount of Ephraim. And king Solomon slept with his fathers, and Roboam his son reigned in his stead. |

| І пішов Ровоам у Сихем, бо в Сихем прийшли всі ізраїльтяни, щоб поставити його царем. | And king Roboam goes to Sikima; for all Israel were coming to Sikima to make him king. |
|

| І почув про те Ієровоам, син Наватів, коли перебував ще в Єгипті, куди втік від царя Соломона, і повернувся Ієровоам з Єгипту; | |
|

|
3
|
| і послали за ним і покликали його. Тоді Ієровоам і все зібрання ізраїльтян прийшли і говорили [цареві] Ровоаму і сказали: | And the people spoke to king Roboam, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy; |
|

|
4
|
| батько твій наклав на нас тяжке ярмо, ти ж полегши нам жорстоку роботу батька твого і тяжке ярмо, яке він наклав на нас, і тоді ми будемо служити тобі. | but do thou now lighten somewhat of the hard service of thy father, and of his heavy yoke which he put upon us, and we will serve thee. |

| І сказав він їм: підіть і через три дні знову прийдіть до мене. І пішов народ. | And he said to them, Depart for three days, and return to me. And they departed. |
|

|
| Цар Ровоам радився зі старцями, які стояли перед Соломоном, батьком його, за життя його, і говорив: як порадите ви мені відповісти цьому народу? | And the king referred the matter to the elders, who stood before Solomon his father while he was yet living, saying, How do ye advise that I should answer this people? |

| Вони говорили йому і сказали: якщо ти в цей день будеш слугою народу цього і будеш слугувати йому, і задовольниш їх і будеш говорити з ними ласкаво, то вони будуть твоїми рабами на всі дні. | And they spoke to him, saying, If thou wilt this day be a servant to this people, and wilt serve them, and wilt speak to them good words, then will they be thy servants continually. |

| Але він зневажив пораду старців, що вони радили йому, і радився з молодими людьми, які виросли разом з ним і які стояли перед ним, | But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they gave him, and consulted with the young men who were brought up with him, who stood in his presence. |

| і сказав їм: що ви порадите мені відповісти народу цьому, який говорив мені і сказав: «полегши ярмо, яке наклав на нас батько твій»? | And he said to them, What counsel do ye give? And what shall I answer to this people who speak to me, saying, Lighten somewhat of the yoke which thy father has put upon us? |

| І говорили йому молоді люди, які виросли разом з ним, і сказали: так скажи народу цьому, який говорив тобі і сказав: «батько твій наклав на нас тяжке ярмо, ти ж полегши нам»; так скажи їм: «мій мізинець товщий за стегна батька мого; | And the young men who had been brought up with him, who stood before his face, spoke to him, saying, Thus shalt thou say to this people who have spoken to thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, and do thou now lighten it from off us: thus shalt thou say to them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins. |

| отже, якщо батько мій обтяжував вас тяжким ярмом, то я збільшу ярмо ваше; батько мій карав вас бичами, а я буду карати вас скорпіонами». | And whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I also will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. |

| Ієровоам і весь народ прийшли до Ровоама на третій день, як наказав цар, сказавши: прийдіть до мене на третій день. | And all Israel came to king Roboam on the third day, as the king spoke to them, saying, Return to me on the third day. |

| І відповідав цар народу суворо і зневажив пораду старців, що вони радили йому; | And the king answered the people harshly; and Roboam forsook the counsel of the old men which they counselled him. |
|

|
| і говорив він за порадою молодих людей і сказав: батько мій наклав на вас тяжке ярмо, а я збільшу ярмо ваше; батько мій карав вас бичами, а я буду карати вас скорпіонами. | And he spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. |

| І не послухав цар народу, бо так суджено було Господом, щоб сповнилося слово Його, яке прорік Господь через Ахию силомлянина Ієровоаму, синові Наватовому. | And the king hearkened not to the people, because the change was from the Lord, that he might establish his word which he spoke by Achia the Selonite concerning Jeroboam the son of Nabat. |

| І побачили всі ізраїльтяни, що цар не послухав їх. І відповів народ цареві і сказав: яка нам частина в Давиді? немає нам частки в сині Ієссеєвому; по наметах своїх, Ізраїль! тепер знай свій дім, Давиде! І розійшовся Ізраїль по наметах своїх. | And all Israel saw that the king did not hearken to them: and the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we any inheritance in the son of Jessæ. Depart, O Israel, to thy tents: now feed thine own house, David. So Israel departed to his tents. |

| Тільки над синами Ізраїлевими, які жили в містах Іудиних, царював Ровоам. | |

| І послав цар Ровоам Адонирама, начальника над податками; але всі ізраїльтяни закидали його камінням, і він помер; цар же Ровоам поспішно зійшов на колісницю, щоб утекти в Єрусалим. | And the king sent Adoniram who was over the tribute; and they stoned him with stones, and he died: and king Roboam made haste to rise to flee to Jerusalem. |

| Коли почули всі ізраїльтяни, що Ієровоам повернувся [з Єгипту], то послали і прикликали його на зібрання, і поставили його царем над усіма ізраїльтянами. За домом Давидовим не залишилося нікого, крім коліна Іудиного [і Веніамінового]. | And it came to pass when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned out of Egypt, that they sent and called him to the assembly, and they made him king over Israel: and none followed the house of David except the tribe of Juda and Benjamin only. |

| Ровоам, прибувши в Єрусалим, зібрав з усього дому Іудиного і з коліна Веніамінового сто вісімдесят тисяч добірних воїнів, щоб воювати з домом Ізраїлевим для того, щоб повернути царство Ровоаму, синові Соломона. | And Roboam went into Jerusalem, and he assembled the congregation of Juda, and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and twenty thousand young men, warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to recover the kingdom to Roboam the son of Solomon. |

| І було слово Боже до Самея, чоловіка Божого, і сказано: | And the word of the Lord came to Samaia the man of God, saying, |

| скажи Ровоаму, синові Соломона, цареві Юдейському, і всьому дому Іудиному і Веніаміновому й іншому народу: | Speak to Roboam the son of Solomon, king of Juda, and to all the house of Juda and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying, |

|
| так говорить Господь: не ходіть і не починайте війни з братами вашими, синами Ізраїлевими; поверніться кожен у дім свій, бо від Мене це було. І послухалися вони слова Господнього і пішли назад за словом Господа. | Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, neither shall ye fight with your brethren the sons of Israel: return each man to his own home; for this thing is from me; and they hearkened to the word of the Lord, and they ceased from going up, according to the word of the Lord. |

| І оббудував Ієровоам Сихем на горі Єфремовій й оселився в ньому; звідти пішов і побудував Пенуїл. | And Jeroboam built Sikima in mount Ephraim and dwelt in it, and went forth thence and built Phanuel. |

| І говорив Ієровоам у серці своєму: царство може знову перейти до дому Давидового; | And Jeroboam said in his heart, Behold, now the kingdom will return to the house of David. |
|

|
27
|
| якщо народ цей буде ходити в Єрусалим для жертвоприношення в домі Господньому, то серце народу цього навернеться до господаря свого, до Ровоама, царя Юдейського, і уб’ють вони мене і повернуться до Ровоама, царя Юдейського. | If this people shall go up to offer sacrifice in the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, then the heart of the people will return to the Lord, and to their master, to Roboam king of Juda, and they will slay me. |

| І порадившись, цар зробив двох золотих тельців і сказав [народу]: не потрібно вам ходити в Єрусалим; ось боги твої, Ізраїль, які вивели тебе з землі Єгипетської. | And the king took counsel, and went, and made two golden heifers, and said to the people, Let it suffice you to have gone hitherto to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. |

| І поставив одного у Вефилі, а іншого в Дані. | And he put one in Bethel, and he put the other in Dan. |
|

|
30
|
| І привело це до гріха, бо народ став ходити до одного з них , навіть у Дан, [і залишили храм Господній]. | And this thing became a sin; and the people went before one as far as Dan, and left the house of the Lord. |
|

|
31
|
| І побудував він капище на висоті і поставив з народу священиків, які не були із синів Левіїних. | And he made houses on the high places, and made priests of any part of the people, who were not of the sons of Levi. |
|

|

|
| І встановив Ієровоам свято у восьмий місяць, у п’ятнадцятий день місяця, подібне до того свята, яке було в Юдеї, і приносив жертви на жертовнику; те саме зробив він у Вефилі, щоб приносити жертву тельцям, яких зробив. І поставив у Вефилі священиків висот, які спорудив, | And Jeroboam appointed a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, according to the feast in the land of Juda; |

| І ось, чоловік Божий прийшов з Юдеї за словом Господнім у Вефиль, в той час, коли Ієровоам стояв біля жертовника, щоб звершити куріння. | And, behold, there came a man of God out of Juda by the word of the Lord to Bæthel, and Jeroboam stood at the altar to sacrifice. |

| І промовив до жертовника слово Господнє і сказав: жертовник, жертовник! так говорить Господь: ось, народиться син дому Давидовому, ім’я йому Іосія, і принесе на тобі в жертву священиків висот, які звершують на тобі куріння, і людські кістки спалить на тобі. | And he cried against the altar by the word of the Lord, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the Lord, Behold, a son is to be born to the house of David, Josias by name; and he shall offer upon thee the priests of the high places, even of them that sacrifice upon thee, and he shall burn men's bones upon thee. |

| І дав у той день знамення, сказавши: ось знамення того, що це прорік Господь: ось, цей жертовник розпадеться, і попіл, що на ньому, розсипеться. | And in that day one shall give a sign, saying, This is the word which the Lord has spoken, saying, Behold, the altar is rent, and the fatness upon it shall be poured out. |

| Коли цар почув слово чоловіка Божого, промовлене до жертовника у Вефилі, то простягнув Ієровоам руку свою від жертовника, говорячи: візьміть його. І одерев’яніла рука його, яку він простягнув на нього, і не міг він повернути її до себе. | And it came to pass when king Jeroboam heard the words of the man of God who called on the altar that was in Bæthel, that the king stretched forth his hand from the altar, saying, Take hold of him. And, behold, his hand, which he stretched forth against him, withered, and he could not draw it back to himself. |

| І жертовник розпався, і попіл з жертовника розсипався, за знаменням, яке дав чоловік Божий словом Господнім. | And the altar was rent, and the fatness was poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God gave by the word of the Lord. |
|

|
| І сказав цар [Ієровоам] чоловіку Божому: умилостив лице Господа Бога твого і помолися за мене, щоб рука моя могла повернутися до мене. Й умилостивив чоловік Божий лице Господа, і рука царя повернулася до нього і стала, як раніше. | And king Jeroboam said to the man of God, Intreat the Lord thy God, and let my hand be restored to me. And the man of God intreated the Lord, and he restored the king's hand to him, and it became as before. |

| І сказав цар чоловіку Божому: зайди зі мною в дім і підкріпи себе їжею, і я дам тобі подарунок. | And the king said to the man of God, Enter with me into the house, and dine, and I will give thee a gift. |
|

|
| Але чоловік Божий сказав цареві: хоч би ти давав мені половину дому твого, я не піду з тобою і не буду їсти хліба і не буду пити води в цьому місці, | And the man of God said to the king, If thou shouldest give me the half of thine house, I would not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread, neither will I drink water in this place; for thus the Lord charged me by his word, saying, |

| бо так заповідано мені словом Господнім: «не їж там хліба і не пий води і не повертайся тією дорогою, якою ти йшов». | Eat no bread, and drink no water, and return not by the way by which thou camest. |
|

|
| І пішов він іншою дорогою і не пішов назад тією дорогою, якою прийшов у Вефиль. | So he departed by another way, and returned not by the way by which he came to Bæthel. |
|

|
11
|
| У Вефилі жив один пророк-старець. Син його прийшов і розповів йому все, що зробив сьогодні чоловік Божий у Вефилі; і слова, які він говорив цареві, переказали сини батькові своєму. | And there dwelt an old prophet in Bæthel; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God did on that day in Bæthel, and the words which he spoke to the king: and they turned the face of their father. |

| І запитав їх батько їхній: якою дорогою він пішов? І показали сини його, якою дорогою пішов чоловік Божий, який приходив з Юдеї. | And their father spoke to them, saying, Which way went he? and his sons shew him the way by which the man of God who came out of Juda went up. |
|

|
| І сказав він синам своїм: осідлайте мені осла. І осідлали йому осла, і він сів на нього. | And he said to his sons, Saddle me the ass: and they saddled him the ass, and he mounted it, |
|

|

|
| І поїхав за чоловіком Божим, і знайшов його, що сидів під дубом, і сказав йому: чи ти чоловік Божий, який прийшов з Юдеї? І сказав той: я. | and went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak: and he said to him, Art thou the man of God that came out of Juda? And he said to him, I am. |

| І сказав йому: зайди до мене в дім і поїж хліба. | And he said to him, Come with me, and eat bread. |
|

|

|
| Той сказав: я не можу повернутися з тобою і піти до тебе; не буду їсти хліба і не буду пити в тебе води в цьому місці, | And he said, I shall not by any means be able to return with thee, neither will I eat bread, neither will I drink water in this place. |
|

17
|
| бо словом Господнім сказано мені: «не їж хліба і не пий там води, і не повертайся тією дорогою, якою ти йшов». | For thus the Lord commanded me by word, saying, Eat not bread there, and drink not water, and return not thither by the way by which thou camest. |
|

|
| І сказав він йому: і я пророк такий самий, як ти, і ангел говорив мені словом Господнім, і сказав: «поверни його до себе в дім; нехай поїсть він хліба і нап’ється води». — Він сказав неправду йому. | And he said to him, I also am a prophet as thou art; and an angel spoke to me by the word of the Lord, saying, Bring him back to thee into thy house, and let him eat bread and drink water: but he lied to him. |

| І той повернувся з ним, і поїв хліба в його домі, і напився води. | And he brought him back, and he ate bread and drank water in his house. |
|

|
| Коли вони ще сиділи за столом, слово Господнє було до пророка, який повернув його. | And it came to pass while they were sitting at the table, that the word of the Lord came to the prophet that brought him back; |

|
| І промовив він до чоловіка Божого, який прийшов з Юдеї, і сказав: так говорить Господь: за те, що ти не підкорився вустам Господа і не дотримав повеління, яке заповів тобі Господь Бог твій, | and he spoke to the man of God that came out of Juda, saying, Thus saith the Lord, Because thou hast resisted the word of the Lord, and hast not kept the commandment which the Lord thy God commanded thee, |

| але повернувся, їв хліб і пив воду в тому місці, про яке Він сказав тобі: «не їж хліба і не пий води», тіло твоє не ввійде у гробницю батьків твоїх. | but hast returned, and eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which he spoke to thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat bread, and shalt not drink water; therefore thy body shall in nowise enter into the sepulchre of thy fathers. |

| Після того, як той поїв хліба і напився, він осідлав осла для пророка, якого він повернув. | And it came to pass after he had eaten bread and drunk water, that he saddled the ass for him, and he turned and departed. |

| І вирушив той. І зустрів його на дорозі лев і умертвив його. І лежало тіло його, кинуте на дорозі; осел же стояв біля нього, і лев стояв біля тіла. | And a lion found him in the way, and slew him; and his body was cast out in the way, and the ass was standing by it, and the lion also was standing by the body. |

| І ось, люди, які проходили мимо, побачили тіло, кинуте на дорозі, і лева, що стоїть біля тіла, і пішли і розповіли в місті, в якому жив пророк-старець. | And, behold, men were passing by, and saw the carcase cast in the way, and the lion was standing near the carcase: and they went in and spoke of it in the city where the old prophet dwelt. |

| Пророк, який повернув його з дороги, почувши це , сказав: це той чоловік Божий, який не підкорився вустам Господа; Господь віддав його леву, який роздер його й умертвив його, за словом Господа, яке Він прорік йому. | And the prophet that turned him back out of the way heard, and said, This is the man of God who rebelled against the word of the Lord. |

| І сказав синам своїм: осідлайте мені осла. І осідлали вони. | |
|

|
| Він вирушив і знайшов тіло його, кинуте на дорозі; осел же і лев стояли біля тіла; лев не з’їв тіла і не роздер осла. | And he went and found the body cast in the way, and the ass and the lion were standing by the body: and the lion had not devoured the body of the man of God, and had not torn the ass. |
|

| І підняв пророк тіло чоловіка Божого, і поклав його на осла, і повіз його назад. І пішов пророк-старець у місто своє , щоб оплакати і поховати його. | And the prophet took up the body of the man of God, and laid it on his ass; and the prophet brought him back to his city, to bury him in his own tomb, |

| І поклав тіло його у своїй гробниці і плакав за ним: жаль, брате мій! | and they bewailed him, saying, Alas, brother. |
|

|
| Після поховання його він сказав синам своїм: коли я помру, поховаєте мене в гробниці, в якій похований чоловік Божий; біля кісток його покладете кістки мої; | And it came to pass after he had lamented him, that he spoke to his sons, saying, Whenever I die, bury me in this tomb wherein the man of God is buried; lay me by his bones, that my bones may be preserved with his bones. |

|
| бо збудеться слово, яке він за велінням Господнім промовив про жертовник у Вефилі і про всі капища на висотах, у містах самарійських. | For the word will surely come to pass which he spoke by the word of the Lord against the altar in Bæthel, and against the high houses in Samaria. |
|

|
| І після цієї події Ієровоам не зійшов зі своєї поганої дороги, але продовжував ставити з народу священиків висот; хто хотів, того він посвячував, і той ставав священиком висот. | And after this Jeroboam turned not from his sin, but he turned and made of part of the people priests of the high places: whoever would, he consecrated him, and he became a priest for the high places. |

| Це вело дім Ієровоамів до гріха і до загибелі і до знищення його з лиця землі. | And this thing became sin to the house of Jeroboam, even to its destruction and its removal from the face of the earth. |

|
| У той час занедужав Авия, син Ієровоамів. | |
|
2
|
|
| І сказав Ієровоам дружині своїй: встань і переодягнися, щоб не довідалися, що ти дружина Ієровоамова, і піди в Силом. Там є пророк Ахия; він передрік мені, що я буду царем цього народу. | |
|
3
|
|
| І візьми із собою [для чоловіка Божого] десять хлібів, і коржів, і глечик меду, і піди до нього: він скаже тобі, що буде з сином. | |
|
4
|
|
| Дружина Ієровоама так і зробила: встала, пішла в Силом і прийшла в дім Ахиї. Ахия вже не міг бачити, бо очі його зробилися нерухомі від старости. | |
|
5
|
|
| І сказав Господь Ахиї: ось, іде дружина Ієровоамова запитати тебе про сина свого, тому що він хворий; так і так говори їй; вона прийде переодягнена. | |
|
6
|
|
| Ахия, почувши шерех від ніг її, коли вона ввійшла у двері, сказав: увійди, дружино Ієровоамова; для чого було тобі переодягатися? Я грізний посланець до тебе. | |
|
7
|
|
| Піди, скажи Ієровоаму: так говорить Господь Бог Ізраїлів: Я підняв тебе із середовища простого народу і поставив вождем народу Мого Ізраїля, | |
|
8
|
|
| і відторгнув царство від дому Давидового і дав його тобі; а ти не такий, як раб Мій Давид, який дотримувався заповідей Моїх і який ішов за Мною всім серцем своїм, роблячи тільки угодне перед очима Моїми; | |
|
9
|
|
| ти чинив гірше за всіх, які були раніше тебе, і пішов, і зробив собі інших богів і ідолів, щоб прогнівати Мене, Мене ж відкинув назад; | |
|
10
|
|
| за це Я наведу лиха на дім Ієровоамів і знищу в Ієровоама до того, хто мочиться до стіни, ув’язненого і хто залишився в Ізраїлі, і вимету дім Ієровоамів, як вимітають сміття, дочиста; | |
|
11
|
|
| хто помре в Ієровоама в місті, того з’їдять пси, а хто помре на полі, того склюють птахи небесні; так Господь сказав. | |
|
12
|
|
| Встань і йди в дім твій; і як тільки нога твоя ступить у місто, помре син; | |
|
13
|
|
| і оплачуть його всі ізраїльтяни і поховають його, бо він один у Ієровоама ввійде в гробницю, тому що в ньому, з дому Ієровоамового, знайшлося щось добре перед Господом Богом Ізраїлевим. | |
|
14
|
|
| І поставить Собі Господь над Ізраїлем царя, який знищить дім Ієровоамів у той день; і що? навіть тепер. | |
|
15
|
|

| На п’ятому році царювання Ровоамового, Сусаким, цар Єгипетський, виступив проти Єрусалима | And it came to pass in the fifth year of the reign of Roboam, Susakim king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem; |

| за те, що Я підняв тебе з пороху і зробив тебе вождем народу Мого Ізраїля, ти ж пішов шляхом Ієровоама і ввів у гріх народ Мій ізраїльтян, щоб він прогнівляв Мене гріхами своїми, | Forasmuch as I lifted thee up from the earth, and made thee ruler over my people Israel; and thou hast walked in the way of Jeroboam, and hast caused my people Israel to sin, to provoke me with their vanities; |

| піди звідси і повернися на схід і сховайся біля потоку Хорафа, що навпроти Йордану; | Depart hence eastward, and hide thee by the brook of Chorrath, that is before Jordan. |

| з цього потоку ти будеш пити, а во́ронам Я повелів годувати тебе там. | And it shall be that thou shalt drink water of the brook, and I will charge the ravens to feed thee there. |

| І пішов він і зробив за словом Господнім; пішов і залишився біля потоку Хорафа, що навпроти Йордану. | And Eliu did according to the word of the Lord, and he sat by the brook of Chorrath before Jordan. |
|

| І во́рони приносили йому хліб і м’ясо вранці, і хліб і м’ясо ввечері, а з потоку він пив. | And the ravens brought him loaves in the morning, and flesh in the evening, and he drank water of the brook. |
|

|
| Коли минув деякий час, цей поток висох, бо не було дощу на землю. | And it came to pass after some time, that the brook was dried up, because there had been no rain upon the earth. |
|

|
| І було до нього слово Господнє: | And the word of the Lord came to Eliu, saying, |

|
| встань і піди в Сарепту сидонську, і залишайся там; Я повелів там жінці вдові годувати тебе. | Arise, and go to Sarepta of the Sidonian land: behold, I have there commanded a widow-woman to maintain thee. |

| І встав він і пішов у Сарепту; і коли прийшов до воріт міста, ось, там жінка вдова збирає дрова. І покликав він її і сказав: дай мені трохи води в посудині напитися. | And he arose and went to Sarepta, and came to the gate of the city: and, behold, a widow-woman was there gathering sticks; and Eliu cried after her, and said to her, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. |

| І сказав їй Ілля: не бійся, піди, зроби, що́ ти сказала; але раніше з цього зроби невеликий опріснок для мене і принеси мені; а для себе і для свого сина зробиш після; | And Eliu said to her, Be of good courage, go in and do according to thy word: but make me thereof a little cake, and thou shalt bring it out to me first, and thou shalt make some for thyself and thy children last. |

| бо так говорить Господь Бог Ізраїлів: борошно в діжці не вичерпається, і олія в глечику не убуде до того дня, коли Господь дасть дощ на землю. | For thus saith the Lord, The pitcher of meal shall not fail, and the cruse of oil shall not diminish, until the day that the Lord gives rain upon the earth. |

| І пішла вона і зробила так, як сказав Ілля; і годувалася вона, і він, і дім її деякий час. | And the woman went and did so, and did eat, she, and he, and her children. |
|

|
| Борошно в діжці не вичерпувалося, й олія в глечику не убувала, за словом Господа, яке Він прорік через Іллю. | And the pitcher of meal failed not, and the cruse of oil was not diminished, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke by the hand of Eliu. |
|

|
| Після цього занедужав син цієї жінки, господині дому, і хвороба його була така сильна, що не залишилося в ньому дихання. | And it came to pass afterward, that the son of the woman the mistress of the house was sick; and his sickness was very severe, until there was no breath left in him. |
|

| І сказала вона Іллі: що мені і тобі, чоловіче Божий? ти прийшов до мене нагадати гріхи мої й умертвити сина мого. | And she said to Eliu, What have I to do with thee, O man of God? hast thou come in to me to bring my sins to remembrance, and to slay my son? |

| І сказав він їй: дай мені сина твого. І взяв його з рук її, і поніс його у світлицю, де він жив, і поклав його на свою постіль, | And Eliu said to the woman, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and took him up to the chamber in which he himself lodged, and laid him on the bed. |

| і воззвав до Господа і сказав: Господи Боже мій! невже Ти і вдові, у якої я перебуваю, зробиш зло, умертвивши сина її? | And Eliu cried aloud, and said, Alas, O Lord, the witness of the widow with whom I sojourn, thou hast wrought evil for her in slaying her son. |

| І простягнувшись над отроком тричі, він воззвав до Господа і сказав: Господи Боже мій! нехай повернеться душа отрока цього в нього! | And he breathed on the child thrice, and called on the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, let, I pray thee, the soul of this child return to him. |

| І почув Господь голос Іллі, і повернулася душа отрока цього в нього, і він ожив. | And it was so, and the child cried out, |

| І взяв Ілля отрока, і вивів його зі світлиці в дім, і віддав його матері його, і сказав Ілля: дивися, син твій живий. | and he brought him down from the upper chamber into the house, and gave him to his mother; and Eliu said, See, thy son lives. |

| Коли минуло багато днів, було слово Господнє до Іллі на третій рік: піди і покажися Ахаву, і Я дам дощ на землю. | And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the Lord came to Eliu in the third year, saying, Go, and appear before Achaab, and I will bring rain upon the face of the earth. |

| І покликав Ахав Авдія, який був начальником над палацом. Авдій же був чоловіком дуже богобоязким, | And Achaab called Abdiu the steward. Now Abdiu feared the Lord greatly. |

|
| і коли Ієзавель знищувала пророків Господніх, Авдій узяв сто пророків, і переховував їх, по п’ятдесят чоловік, у печерах, і годував їх хлібом і водою. | And it came to pass when Jezabel smote the prophets of the Lord, that Abdiu took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water. |

| І сказав Ахав Авдію: піди по землі до всіх джерел водних і до всіх потоків на землі, чи не знайдемо де трави, щоб нам нагодувать коней і ослів і не позбутися худоби. | And Achaab said to Abdiu, Come, and let us go through the land, and to the fountains of water, and to the brooks, if by any means we may find grass, and may save the horses and mules, and so they will not perish from the tents. |

| І розділили вони між собою землю, щоб обійти її: Ахав окремо пішов однією дорогою, і Авдій окремо пішов іншою дорогою. | And they made a division of the way between them to pass through it: Achaab went one way, and Abdiu went by another way alone. |

| Коли Авдій ішов дорогою, ось, назустріч йому іде Ілля. Він упізнав його і упав на лице своє і сказав: чи це ти, господарю мій Іллє? | And Abdiu was alone in the way; and Eliu came alone to meet him: and Abdiu hasted, and fell upon his face, and said, My lord Eliu, art thou indeed he? |

| Той сказав йому: я; піди, скажи господарю твоєму: «Ілля тут». | And Eliu said to him, I am: go, say to thy master, Behold, Eliu is here. |

| Він сказав: чим я завинив, що ти віддаєш раба твого у руки Ахава, щоб умертвити мене? | And Abdiu said, What sin have I committed, that thou givest thy servant into the hand of Achaab to slay me? |

| Живий Господь Бог твій! немає жодного народу і царства, куди б не посилав господар мій шукати тебе; і коли йому говорили, що тебе нема, він брав клятву з того царства і народу, що не могли відшукати тебе; | As the Lord thy God lives, there is not a nation or kingdom, whither my lord has not sent to seek thee; and if they said, He is not here, then has he set fire to the kingdom and its territories, because he has not found thee. |

| а ти тепер говориш: «піди, скажи господарю твоєму: Ілля тут». | And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Eliu is here. |

| Коли я піду від тебе, тоді Дух Господній віднесе тебе, не знаю куди; і якщо я піду повідомити Ахава, і він не знайде тебе, то він уб’є мене; а раб твій богобоязкий від юности своєї. | And it shall come to pass when I shall have departed from thee, that the Spirit of the Lord shall carry thee to a land which I know not, and I shall go in to tell the matter to Achaab, and he will not find thee and will slay me: yet thy servant fears the Lord from his youth. |

| Хіба не сказано господарю моєму, що́ я зробив, коли Ієзавель убивала пророків Господніх, як я переховував сто чоловік пророків Господніх, по п’ятдесят чоловік, у печерах і годував їх хлібом і водою? | Has it not been told to thee my lord, what I did when Jezabel slew the prophets of the Lord, that I hid a hundred men of the prophets of the Lord, by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water? |

| А ти тепер говориш: «піди, скажи господарю твоєму: Ілля тут»; він уб’є мене. | And now thou sayest to me, Go, say to thy master, Behold, Eliu is here: and he shall slay me. |

| І сказав Ілля: живий Господь Саваоф, перед Яким я стою! сьогодні я покажуся йому. | And Eliu said, As the Lord of Hosts before whom I stand lives, to-day I will appear before him. |

| І пішов Авдій назустріч Ахаву і доніс йому. І пішов Ахав назустріч Іллі. | And Abdiu went to meet Achaab, and told him: and Achaab hasted forth, and went to meet Eliu. |
|

|
| Коли Ахав побачив Іллю, то сказав Ахав йому: чи це ти, який бентежить Ізраїля? | And it came to pass when Achaab saw Eliu, that Achaab said to Eliu, Art thou he that perverts Israel? |

|
| І сказав Ілля: не я бентежу Ізраїля, а ти і дім батька твого, тим, що ви знехтували повеління Господні й ідете услід Ваалам; | And Eliu said, I do not pervert Israel; but it is thou and thy father's house, in that ye forsake the Lord your God, and thou hast gone after Baalim. |

| тепер пошли і збери до мене весь Ізраїль на гору Кармил, і чотириста п’ятдесят пророків Ваалових, і чотириста пророків дібровних, які годуються від столу Ієзавелі. | And now send, gather to me all Israel to mount Carmel, and the prophets of shame four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, that eat at Jezabel's table. |

| І послав Ахав до всіх синів Ізраїлевих і зібрав усіх пророків на гору Кармил. | And Achaab sent to all Israel, and gathered all the prophets to mount Carmel. |

| І підійшов Ілля до всього народу і сказав: чи довго вам кульгати на обидва коліна? якщо Господь є Бог, то йдіть за Ним; а якщо Ваал, то за ним ідіть. І не відповів народ йому ні слова. | And Eliu drew near to them all: and Eliu said to them, How long wilt ye halt on both feet? if the Lord be God, follow him; but if Baal, follow him. And the people answered not a word. |

| І сказав Ілля народу: я один залишився пророк Господній, а пророків Ваалових чотириста п’ятдесят чоловік [і чотириста пророків дібровних]; | And Eliu said to the people, I am left, the only one prophet of the Lord; and the prophets of Baal are four hundred and fifty men, and the prophets of the groves four hundred. |

| нехай дадуть нам двох тельців, і нехай вони виберуть собі одного тельця, і розсічуть його, і покладуть на дрова, але вогню нехай не підкладають; а я приготую другого тельця і покладу на дрова, а вогню не підкладу; | Let them give us two oxen, and let them choose one for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire on the wood: and I will dress the other bullock, and put on no fire. |

| і закличте ви ім’я бога вашого, а я закличу ім’я Господа Бога мого. Той Бог, Який дасть відповідь за допомогою вогню, є Бог. І відповів весь народ і сказав: добре, [нехай буде так]. | And do ye call loudly on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord my God, and it shall come to pass that the God who shall answer by fire, he is God. And all the people answered and said, The word which thou hast spoken is good. |

| І сказав Ілля пророкам Вааловим: виберіть собі одного тельця і приготуйте ви раніше, бо вас багато; і закличте ім’я бога вашого, але вогню не підкладайте. | And Eliu said to the prophets of shame, Choose to yourselves one calf, and dress it first, for ye are many; and call ye on the name of your god; but apply no fire. |

| І взяли вони тельця, якого дали їм, і приготували, і заклика́ли ім’я Ваала від ранку до півдня, говорячи: Ваале, почуй нас! Але не було ні голосу, ні відповіді. І скакали вони біля жертовника, який зробили. | And they took the calf and drest it, and called on the name of Baal from morning till noon, and said, Hear us, O Baal, hear us. And there was no voice, neither was there hearing, and they ran up and down on the altar which they had made. |

| Опівдні Ілля став глузувати з них і говорив: кричіть гучним голосом, бо він бог; може, він задумався, або зайнятий чим-небудь, або в дорозі, а можливо, і спить, то він прокинеться! | And it was noon, and Eliu the Thesbite mocked them, and said, Call with a loud voice, for he is a god; for he is meditating, or else perhaps he is engaged in business, or perhaps he is asleep, and is to be awaked. |

| І стали вони кричати гучним голосом, і кололи себе за своїм звичаєм ножами і списами, так що кров лилася по них. | And they cried with a loud voice, and cut themselves according to their custom with knives and lancets until the blood gushed out upon them. |

| І взяв Ілля дванадцять каменів, за числом колін синів Якова, якому Господь сказав так: Ізраїль буде ім’я твоє. | And Eliu took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of Israel, as the Lord spoke to him, saying, Israel shall be thy name. |

|
| І побудував з цих каменів жертовник в ім’я Господа, і зробив навколо жертовника рів, місткістю у дві сати зерна, | And he built up the stones in the name of the Lord, and repaired the altar that had been broken down; and he made a trench that would hold two measures of seed round about the altar. |
|

|
| і поклав дрова [на жертовник], і розсік тельця, і поклав його на дрова, | And he piled the cleft wood on the altar which he had made, and divided the whole-burnt-offering, and laid it on the wood, and laid it in order on the altar, and said, Fetch me four pitchers of water, and pour it on the whole-burnt-offering, and on the wood. And they did so. |

| і сказав: наповніть чотири відра водою і вилийте на жертву всепалення і на дрова. [І зробили так.] Потім сказав: повторіть. І вони повторили. І сказав: зробіть те саме третій раз. І зробили втретє, | And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time. |

| і вода полилася навколо жертовника, і рів наповнився водою. | And the water ran round about the altar, and they filled the trench with water. |

| Під час приношення вечірньої жертви підійшов Ілля пророк [і воззвав до неба] і сказав: Господи, Боже Авраамів, Ісааків та Ізраїлів! [Почуй мене, Господи, почуй мене нині у вогні!] Нехай пізнають у цей день [люди ці], що Ти один Бог в Ізраїлі, і що я раб Твій і зробив усе за словом Твоїм. | And Eliu cried aloud to heaven, and said, Lord God of Abraam, and Isaac, and Israel, answer me, O Lord, answer me this day by fire, and let all this people know that thou art the Lord, the God of Israel, and I am thy servant, and for thy sake I have wrought these works. |

| Почуй мене, Господи, почуй мене! Нехай пізнає народ цей, що Ти, Господи, Бог, і Ти навернеш серце їх [до Тебе]. | Hear me, O Lord, hear me, and let this people know that thou art the Lord God, and thou hast turned back the heart of this people. |

| І зійшов вогонь Господній і пожер всепалення, і дрова, і камені, і порох, і поглинув воду, що у рові. | Then fire fell from the Lord out of heaven, and devoured the whole-burnt-offerings, and the wood and the water that was in the trench, and the fire licked up the stones and the earth. |
|

|
| Побачивши це , весь народ упав на лице своє і сказав: Господь є Бог, Господь є Бог! | And all the people fell upon their faces, and said, Truly the Lord is God; he is God. |
|

|
40
|
| І сказав їм Ілля: схопіть пророків Ваалових, щоб жоден з них не сховався. І схопили їх, і відвів їх Ілля до потоку Киссону і заколов їх там. | And Eliu said to the people, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them; and Eliu brings them down to the brook Kisson, and he slew them there. |

| І сказав Ілля Ахаву: піди, їж і пий, бо чути шум дощу. | And Eliu said to Achaab, Go up, and eat and drink, for there is a sound of the coming of rain. |

| І пішов Ахав їсти і пити, а Ілля зійшов на верхівку Кармила і схилився до землі, і поклав лице своє між колінами своїми, | And Achaab went up to eat and to drink; and Eliu went up to Carmel, and stooped to the ground, and put his face between his knees, |

| На сьомий раз той сказав: ось, невелика хмарка піднімається від моря, завбільшки в долоню людську. Він сказав: піди, скажи Ахаву: «запрягай [колісницю твою] і від’їжджай, щоб не застав тебе дощ». | And the servant went again seven times: and it came to pass at the seventh time, that, behold, a little cloud like the sole of a man's foot brought water; and he said, Go up, and say to Achaab, Make ready thy chariot, and go down, lest the rain overtake thee. |

| Тим часом небо зробилося похмурим від хмар і від вітру, і пішов великий дощ. Ахав же сів у колісницю, [заплакав] і поїхав у Ізреель. | And it came to pass in the meanwhile, that the heaven grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Achaab wept, and went to Jezrael. |

| І переповів Ахав Ієзавелі все, що зробив Ілля, і те, що він убив усіх пророків мечем. | And Achaab told Jezabel his wife all that Eliu had done, and how he had slain the prophets with the sword. |

|
| І послала Ієзавель посланця до Іллі сказати: [якщо ти Ілля, а я Ієзавель, то] нехай те і те зроблять мені боги, і ще більше зроблять, якщо я завтра до цього часу не зроблю з твоєю душею того, що зроблено з душею кожного з них. | And Jezabel sent to Eliu, and said, If thou art Eliu and I am Jezabel, God do so to me, and more also, if I do not make thy life by this time to-morrow as the life of one of them. |

| Побачивши це, він встав і пішов, щоб урятувати життя своє, і прийшов у Вирсавію, що в Юдеї, і залишив слугу свого там. | And Eliu feared, and rose, and departed for his life: and he comes to Bersabee to the land of Juda, and he left his servant there. |

| А сам відійшов у пустелю на день путі і, прийшовши, сів під ялівцевим кущем, і просив смерти собі і сказав: досить уже, Господи; візьми душу мою, бо я не кращий за батьків моїх. | And he himself went a day's journey in the wilderness, and came and sat under a juniper tree; and asked concerning his life that he might die, and said, Let it be enough now, O Lord, take, I pray thee, my life from me; for I am no better than my fathers. |

| І ліг і заснув під ялівцевим кущем. І ось, ангел торкнувся його і сказав йому: встань, їж [і пий]. | And he lay down and slept there under a tree; and behold, some one touched him, and said to him, Arise and eat. |

| І глянув Ілля, і ось, біля голови його печений корж і глечик води. Він поїв і напився і знову заснув. | And Eliu looked, and, behold, at his head there was a cake of meal and a cruse of water; and he arose, and ate and drank, and returned and lay down. |

| І повернувся ангел Господній удруге, торкнувся його і сказав: встань, їж [і пий], бо далека дорога перед тобою. | And the angel of the Lord returned again, and touched him, and said to him, Arise, and eat, for the journey is far from thee. |

| І встав він, поїв і напився, і, підкріпившись тією їжею, йшов сорок днів і сорок ночей до гори Божої Хорива. | And he arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights to mount Choreb. |

| І увійшов він там у печеру і ночував у ній. І ось, було до нього слово Господнє, і сказав йому Господь : що ти тут, Іллє? | And he entered there into a cave, and rested there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said, What doest thou here, Eliu? |

| Він сказав: поревнував я за Господа Бога Саваофа, тому що сини Ізраїлеві залишили завіт Твій, зруйнували Твої жертовники і пророків Твоїх убили мечем; залишився я один, але і моєї душі шукають, щоб відняти її. | And Eliu said, I have been very jealous for the Lord Almighty, because the children of Israel have forsaken thee: they have digged down thine altars, and have slain thy prophets with the sword; and I only am left alone, and they seek my life to take it. |

| І сказав: вийди і стань на горі перед лицем Господнім, і ось, Господь пройде, і великий і сильний вітер, що роздирає гори і розтрощує скелі перед Господом, але не у вітрі Господь; після вітру землетрус, але не в землетрусі Господь; | And he said, Thou shalt go forth to-morrow, and shalt stand before the Lord in the mount; behold, the Lord will pass by. And, behold, a great and strong wind rending the mountains, and crushing the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: |

| після землетрусу вогонь, але не у вогні Господь; після вогню віяння тихого вітру, [і там Господь]. | and after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire the voice of a gentle breeze. |

| Почувши це , Ілля закрив лице своє милоттю своєю, і вийшов, і став біля входу в печеру. | І вражав кожен супротивника свого; і побігли сиріяни, а ізраїльтяни погналися за ними. Венадад же, цар Сирійський, урятувався на коні з вершниками. | And Achaab said to Eliu, Hast thou found me, mine enemy? and he said, I have found thee: because thou hast wickedly sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger; |

| І вийшов цар Ізраїльський, і взяв коней і колісниці, і зробив велику поразку серед сиріян. | behold, I bring evil upon thee: and I will kindle a fire after thee, and I will utterly destroy every male of Achaab, and him that is shut up and him that is left in Israel. |

| І підійшов пророк до царя Ізраїльського і сказав йому: піди, зміцнися, і знай і дивися, що тобі робити, бо через рік цар Сирійський знову піде проти тебе. | And I will make thy house as the house of Jeroboam the son of Nabat, and as the house of Baasa son of Achia, because of the provocations wherewith thou hast provoked me, and caused Israel to sin. |

| [Так говорить Господь:] ось, Я наведу на тебе лиха і вимету за тобою і знищу в Ахава того, хто мочиться до стіни, й ув’язненого, і хто залишився в Ізраїлі. | And the king of Israel went forth, and took all the horses and the chariots, and smote the enemy with a great slaughter in Syria. |

| Прожили три роки, і не було війни між Сирією й Ізраїлем. | And he rested three years, and there was no war between Syria and Israel. |

| На третій рік Іосафат, цар Юдейський, пішов до царя Ізраїльського. | And it came to pass in the third year, that Josaphat king of Juda went down to the king of Israel. |
|

|
| І сказав цар Ізраїльський слугам своїм: чи знаєте, що Рамоф галаадський наш? А ми так довго мовчимо, і не беремо його з руки царя Сирійського. | And the king of Israel said to his servants, Know ye that Remmath Galaad is ours, and we are slow to take it out of the hand of the king of Syria? |

| І сказав він Іосафату: чи підеш ти зі мною на війну проти Рамофа галаадського? І сказав Іосафат царю Ізраїльському: як ти, так і я; як твій народ, так і мій народ; як твої коні, так і мої коні. | And the king of Israel said to Josaphat, Wilt thou go up with us to Remmath Galaad to battle? |

| І сказав Іосафат царю Ізраїльському: запитай сьогодні, що скаже Господь. | And Josaphat said, As I am, so art thou also; as my people, so is thy people; as my horses, so are thy horses. And Josaphat king of Juda said to the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, of the Lord to-day. |

| І зібрав цар Ізраїльський пророків, близько чотирьохсот чоловік, і сказав їм: чи йти мені війною на Рамоф галаадський, чи ні? Вони сказали: йди, Господь віддасть його в руки царя. | And the king of Israel gathered all the prophets together, about four hundred men; and the king said to them, Shall I go up to Remmath Galaad to battle, or shall I forbear? and they said, Go up, and the Lord will surely give it into the hands of the king. |

| І сказав Іосафат: чи немає тут ще пророка Господнього, щоб нам запитати через нього Господа? | And Josaphat said to the king of Israel, Is there not here a prophet of the Lord, that we may enquire of the Lord by him? |
|

| І сказав цар Ізраїльський Іосафату: є ще один чоловік, через якого можна запитати Господа, але я не люблю його, тому що він не пророкує про мене доброго, а тільки лихе, — це Михей, син Іємвлая. І сказав Іосафат: не говори, царю, так. | And the king of Israel said to Josaphat, There is one man here for us to enquire of the Lord by; but I hate him, for he does not speak good of me, but only evil; Michaias son of Jemblaa. And Josaphat king of Juda said, Let not the king say so. |

| І покликав цар Ізраїльський одного євнуха і сказав: сходи скоріше за Михеєм, сином Іємвлая. | And the king of Israel called a eunuch and said, Bring hither quickly Michaias son of Jemblaa. |
|

| Цар Ізраїльський і Іосафат, цар Юдейський, сиділи кожен на сідалищі своєму, одягнені у царський одяг, на площі біля воріт Самарії, і всі пророки пророкували перед ними. | And the king of Israel and Josaphat king of Juda sat, each on his throne, armed in the gates of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them. |

| І зробив собі Седекія, син Хенаани, залізні роги, і сказав: так говорить Господь: цими забодаєш сиріян до знищення їх. | And Sedekias son of Chanaan made for himself iron horns, and said, Thus saith the Lord, With these thou shalt push Syria, until it be consumed. |

| І всі пророки пророкували те саме, говорячи: йди на Рамоф галаадський, буде успіх, Господь віддасть його в руку царя. | And all the prophets prophesied in like manner, saying, Go up to Remmath Galaad, and the thing shall prosper, and the Lord shall deliver it and the king of Syria into thine hands. |

| Посланий, який пішов покликати Михея, говорив йому: ось, слова пророків одноголосно передвіщають цареві добре; нехай би і твоє слово було згідне зі словом кожного з них; проречи і ти добре. | And the messenger that went to call Michaias spoke to him, saying, Behold now, all the prophets speak with one mouth good concerning the king, let now thy words be like the words of one of them, and speak good things. |

| І сказав Михей: живий Господь! я проречу те, що скаже мені Господь. | And Michaias said, As the Lord lives, whatsoever the Lord shall say to me, that will I speak. |
|

|
| І прийшов він до царя. Цар сказав йому: Михею! чи йти нам війною на Рамоф галаадський, чи ні? І сказав той йому: йди, буде успіх, Господь віддасть його в руку царя. | And he came to the king: and the king said to him, Michaias, shall I go up to Remmath Galaad to battle, or shall I forbear? and he said, Go up, and the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king. |

| І сказав йому цар: ще і ще заклинаю тебе, щоб ти не говорив мені нічого, крім істини в ім’я Господа. | And the king said to him, How often shall I adjure thee, that thou speak to me truth in the name of the Lord? |
|

|
| І сказав він: я бачу всіх ізраїльтян, розсіяних по горах, як овець, у яких немає пастиря. І сказав Господь: немає в них начальника, нехай повертаються з миром кожен у свій дім. | And he said, Not so. I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains as a flock without a shepherd: and the Lord said, Is not God lord of these? let each one return to his home in peace. |

| І сказав цар Ізраїльський Іосафату: чи не говорив я тобі, що він не пророкує про мене доброго, а тільки лихе? | And the king of Israel said to Josaphat king of Juda, Did I not say to thee that this man does not prophesy good to me, for he speaks nothing but evil? |
|

|
| І сказав [Михей]: [не так; не я, а] вислухай слово Господнє: я бачив Господа, що сидить на престолі Своєму, і все воїнство небесне стояло при Ньому, праворуч і ліворуч від Нього; | And Michaias said, Not so, it is not I: hear the word of the Lord; it is not so. I saw the God of Israel sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven stood about him on his right hand and on his left. |

| і сказав Господь: хто схилив би Ахава, щоб він пішов і загинув у Рамофі галаадському? І один говорив так, інший говорив інакше; | And the Lord said, Who will deceive Achaab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall in Remmath Galaad? and one spoke one way, and another another way. |

| і виступив один дух, став перед лицем Господа і сказав: я схилю його. І сказав йому Господь: чим? | And there came forth a spirit and stood before the Lord, and said, I will deceive him. |
|

|
| Він сказав: я вийду і зроблюся духом неправдивим у вустах усіх пророків його. Господь сказав: ти схилиш його і виконаєш це; піди і зроби так. | And the Lord said to him, Whereby? And he said, I will go forth, and will be a false spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt deceive him, yea, and shalt prevail: go forth, and do so. |

| І ось, тепер попустив Господь духа неправдивого у вуста всіх цих пророків твоїх; але Господь прорік про тебе недобре. | And now, behold, the Lord has put a false spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the Lord has spoken evil against thee. |
|

|
| І підійшов Седекія, син Хенаани, і, вдаривши Михея по щоці, сказав: як, невже від мене відійшов Дух Господній, щоб говорити в тобі? | And Sedekias the son of Chanaan came near and smote Michaias on the cheek, and said, What sort of a spirit of the Lord has spoken in thee? |

| І сказав Михей: ось, ти побачиш це в той день, коли будеш бігати з однієї кімнати в іншу, щоб сховатися, | And Michaias said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go into an innermost chamber to hide thyself there. |
|

| і сказав цар Ізраїльський: візьміть Михея і відведіть його до Амона градоначальника і до Іоаса, сина царя, | And the king of Israel said, Take Michaias, and convey him away to Semer the keeper of the city; |
|

|
| і скажіть: так говорить цар: посадіть цього у в’язницю і годуйте його скудно хлібом і скудно водою, доки я не повернусь у мирі. | and tell Joas the king's son to put this fellow in prison, and to feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction until I return in peace. |
|

|
| І сказав Михей: якщо повернешся у мирі, то не Господь говорив через мене. І сказав: слухай, весь народе! | And Michaias said, If thou return at all in peace, the Lord has not spoken by me. |
|

|
| І пішов цар Ізраїльський та Іосафат, цар Юдейський, до Рамофа галаадського. | So the king of Israel went up, and Josaphat king of Juda with him to Remmath Galaad. |
|

|
| І сказав цар Ізраїльський Іосафату: я переодягнусь і вступлю в битву, а ти вдягни твій царський одяг. І переодягся цар Ізраїльський і вступив у битву. | And the king of Israel said to Josaphat king of Juda, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle, and do thou put on my raiment. So the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle. |

| Сирійський цар повелів начальникам колісниць, яких у нього було тридцять два, сказавши: не боріться ні з малим, ні з великим, а тільки з одним царем Ізраїльським. | And the king of Syria had charged the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, Fight not against small or great, but against the king of Israel only. |

| Начальники колісниць, побачивши Іосафата, подумали: «мабуть, це цар Ізраїльський», і повернули на нього, щоб битися з ним . І закричав Іосафат. | And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Josaphat king of Juda, that they said, This seems to be the king of Israel. And they compassed him about to fight against him; and Josaphat cried out. |

| Начальники колісниць, бачачи, що це не Ізраїльський цар, повернули від нього. | And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that this was not the king of Israel, that they returned from him. |
|

| А один чоловік випадково натягнув лук і поранив царя Ізраїльського крізь шви лат. І сказав він своєму візникові: поверни назад і вивези мене з війська, бо я поранений. | And one drew a bow with a good aim, and smote the king of Israel between the lungs and the breast-plate: and he said to his charioteer, Turn thine hands, and carry me away out of the battle, for I am wounded. |

| Але битва у той день посилилася, і цар стояв на колісниці проти сиріян, і ввечері помер, і кров з рани лилася в колісницю. | And the war was turned in that day, and the king was standing on the chariot against Syria from morning till evening; and he shed the blood out of his wound, into the bottom of the chariot, and died at even, and the blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot. |

|
| І проголошено було по всьому стану при заходженні сонця: кожен іди у своє місто, кожен у свою землю! | And the herald of the army stood at sunset, saying, Let every man go to his own city and his own land, |
|

|
| І помер цар, і привезли його у Самарію, і поховали царя у Самарії. | for the king is dead. And they came to Samaria, and buried the king in Samaria. |
|

|
38
|
| І обмили колісницю на ставу самарійському, і пси лизали кров його, і обмивали блудниці, за словом Господа, яке Він прорік. | And they washed the chariot at the fountain of Samaria; and the swine and the dogs licked up the blood, and the harlots washed themselves in the blood, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke. |

| Інші діла Ахава, усе, що він робив, і дім зі слонової кістки, який він побудував, і всі міста, які він будував, описані у літописі царів ізраїльських. | And the rest of the acts of Achaab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities which he built, behold, are not these things written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? |

| І спочив Ахав з батьками своїми, і став царем Охозія, син його, замість нього. | And Achaab slept with his fathers, and Ochozias his son reigned in his stead. |
|

|
| Іосафат, син Аси, став царем Юдеї в четвертий рік Ахава, царя Ізраїльського. | And Josaphat the son of Asa reigned over Juda: in the fourth year of Achaab king of Israel began Josaphat to reign. |
|

|
| Тридцяти п’яти років був Іосафат, коли став царем, і двадцять п’ять років царював у Єрусалимі. Ім’я матері його Азува, дочка Салаїля. | Thirty and five years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Azuba daughter of Salai. |

| Він ходив у всьому шляхом батька свого Аси, не сходив з нього, роблячи угодне перед очима Господніми. Тільки висоти не були знищені; народ ще приносив жертви і куріння на висотах. | And he walked in all the way of Asa his father: he turned not from it, even from doing that which was right in the eyes of the Lord. |

| Іосафат уклав мир з царем Ізраїльським. | Only he took not away any of the high places: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense on the high places. |
|

45
|
| Інші діла Іосафата і подвиги його, які він звершив, і як він воював, описані у літописі царів юдейських. | And Josaphat was at peace with the king of Israel. |
|

|
46
|
| І залишки блудників, які залишилися у дні батька його Аси, він знищив із землі. | And the rest of the acts of Josaphat, and his mighty deeds, whatever he did, behold, are not these things written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Juda? |
|

|
| В Ідумеї тоді не було царя; був намісник царський. | |
|

|
|
| [Цар] Іосафат зробив кораблі на морі, щоб ходити в Офир за золотом; але вони не дійшли, бо розбилися в Еціон-Гавері. | |
|

|
| Тоді сказав Охозія, син Ахава, Іосафату: нехай мої слуги підуть з твоїми слугами на кораблях. Але Іосафат не погодився. | |
|

|
| І спочив Іосафат з батьками своїми і був похований з батьками своїми у місті Давида, батька свого. І став царем Іорам, син його, замість нього. | |
|

|
| Охозія, син Ахава, став царем над Ізраїлем у Самарії, у сімнадцятий рік Іосафата, царя Юдейського, і царював над Ізраїлем [у Самарії] два роки, | And Josaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried by his fathers in the city of David his father, and Joram his son reigned in his stead. |

| і робив неугодне перед очима Господа, і ходив шляхом батька свого і шляхом матері своєї і шляхом Ієровоама, сина Наватового, який увів Ізраїля у гріх: | And Ochozias son of Achaab reigned over Israel in Samaria: in the seventeenth year of Josaphat king of Juda, Ochozias son of Achaab reigned over Israel in Samaria two years. |

| він служив Ваалу і поклонявся йому і прогнівив Господа Бога Ізраїлевого всім тим, що робив батько його. | And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of Achaab his father, and in the way of Jezabel his mother, and in the sins of the house of Jeroboam the son of Nabat, who caused Israel to sin. |
