Першу книгу я написав тобі, Феофіле, про все, що Ісус творив і чого вчив від початку	The former treatise I made, O Theophilus, concerning all that Jesus began both to do and to teach,

до того дня, коли Він вознісся, давши через Святого Духа повеління апостолам, яких Він обрав	until the day in which he was received up, after that he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

і перед якими після страждань Своїх являв Себе живим з багатьма вірними доказами, протягом сорока днів являючись їм і говорячи про Царство Боже.	to whom he also showed himself alive after his passion by many proofs, appearing unto them by the space of forty days, and speaking the things concerning the kingdom of God:

І, зібравши їх, Він звелів їм: «Не відлучайтесь із Єрусалима, а чекайте обіцяного від Отця, про що ви чули від Мене,	and, being assembled together with them, he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, said he, ye heard from me:

бо Іоан хрестив водою, а ви, через кілька днів після цього, будете охрещені Духом Святим».	for John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence.

Тому вони, зійшовшись, питали Його, кажучи: «Чи не в цей час, Господи, відновлюєш Ти царство Ізраїлеві?»	They therefore, when they were come together, asked him, saying, Lord, dost thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?

Він же сказав їм: «Не ваша справа знати часи й строки, які поклав Отець у Своїй владі,	And he said unto them, It is not for you to know times or seasons, which the Father hath set within his own authority.
8	8
але ви приймете силу, коли зійде на вас Дух Святий; і будете Моїми свідками в Єрусалимі та по всій Юдеї й Самарії та аж до краю землі».	But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Сказавши це, Він вознісся перед їхніми очима, і хмара взяла Його з очей їхніх.	And when he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

І коли вони дивилися на небо, під час вознесіння Його, раптом перед ними стали два мужі в білому одязі	And while they were looking steadfastly into heaven as he went, behold two men stood by them in white apparel;

і сказали: «Мужі галилейські, чого ви стоїте і дивитеся на небо? Цей Ісус, Який вознісся від вас на небо, прийде так само, як ви бачили Його, коли Він сходив на небо».	who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing into heaven? this Jesus, who was received up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye beheld him going into heaven.

Тоді вони повернулися до Єрусалима з гори, що зветься Елеон і знаходиться поблизу Єрусалима, на відстані суботньої путі.	Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is nigh unto Jerusalem, a sabbath day’s journey off.

And when they were come in, they went up into the upper chamber, where they were abiding; both Peter and James and John and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.

Усі вони однодушно перебували у молитві й благанні, з деякими жінками і Марією, Матір’ю Ісуса, та з братами Його.	These all with one accord continued steadfastly in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

У ті дні Петро, ставши посеред учеників,	And in these days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said (and there was a multitude of persons gathered together, about a hundred and twenty),

сказав [зібралося ж близько ста двадцяти чоловік]: «Мужі-браття! Належало статися тому, що у Писанні провістив Дух Святий устами Давидовими про Іуду, колишнього вождя тих, що взяли Ісуса;	Brethren, it was needful that this scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spake before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to them that took Jesus.

він був зарахований до нас і одержав жереб служіння цього;	For he was numbered with us, and received his portion in this ministry.
18	18
але придбав землю неправедною мздою і, коли звалився додолу, розпалося черево його і випали всі нутрощі його;	(Now this man obtained a field with the reward of his iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.
19	19
і це стало відомо всім жителям Єрусалима, тому й земля та названа їхньою мовою «Акелдама́», тобто «Земля крови».	And it became known to all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch that in their proper language that field was called Akeldama, that is, The field of blood.)

У книзі ж Псалмів написано: «Нехай опустіє двір його, і нехай не буде пожильця у ньому; і гідність його нехай прийме інший».	For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be made desolate, And let no man dwell therein: and, His office let another take.

Отже, треба, щоб один із тих, котрі були з нами увесь час, коли перебував і ходив із нами Господь Ісус,	Of the men therefore that have companied with us all the time in which the Lord Jesus went in and went out among us,

починаючи від хрещення Іоанового до того дня, коли Він вознісся від нас, був разом з нами свідком воскресіння Його».	beginning from the baptism of John, unto the day that he was received up from us, of these must one become a witness with us of his resurrection.

І поставили двох: Йосифа, званого Варсавою, якого прозвали Юстом, та Матфея.	And they put forward two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

І, помолившись, сказали: «Ти, Господи, Серцезнавче всіх, покажи з цих двох одного, якого Ти обрав	And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show of these two the one whom thou hast chosen,

прийняти жереб цього служіння і апостольства, від якого відпав Іуда, щоб іти у своє місце».	to take the portion in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place.

І кинули про них жереб, і впав жереб на Матфея, і зарахували його до одинадцятьох апостолів.	And they gave their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
Глава 2	Chapter 2

1	1
Коли настав день П’ятдесятниці, усі вони були однодушно вкупі.	And when the day of Pentecost was now come, they were all with one accord in one place.

І раптом зчинився шум з неба, ніби від сильного вітру, і наповнив увесь дім, де вони перебували.	And suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

І з’явились їм розділені язики, мов вогненні, і спочили по одному на кожному з них.	And there appeared unto them tongues parting asunder, like as of fire; and it sat upon each one of them.

І сповнилися всі Духа Святого, і почали говорити іншими мовами, як Дух давав їм провіщати.	And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

У Єрусалимі ж перебували юдеї, люди побожні, з усякого народу під небесами.	Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.

Коли зчинився цей шум, зібрався народ і схвилювався; бо кожний чув, що вони говорять його мовою.	And when this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speaking in his own language.

І всі були вражені і дивувалися, кажучи один до одного: «Чи не всі ці, які говорять, галілеяни?	And they were amazed and marveled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these that speak Galileans?

Як же ми чуємо кожен свою рідну мову, в якій народилися.	And how hear we, every man in our own language wherein we were born?

Парфяни, і мідяни, і еламіти, і жителі Месопотамії, Юдеї і Каппадокії, Понту та Асії,	Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, in Judea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia,

Фригії і Памфілії, Єгипту і країв Лівії, прилеглих до Киринеї, і захожі з Риму, юдеї та прозеліти^*,	in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and sojourners from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

критяни й аравитяни, чуємо, що вони говорять нашими мовами про великі діла Божі?»	Cretans and Arabians, we hear them speaking in our tongues the mighty works of God.

І дивувалися всі і, не розуміючи, казали один одному: «Що це значить?»	And they were all amazed, and were perplexed, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

А інші, глузуючи, говорили: «Вони напилися вина».	But others mocking said, They are filled with new wine.

Петро ж, ставши з одинадцятьма, підвищив голос свій і промовив до них: «Мужі юдейські і всі жителі Єрусалима! Нехай це буде відомо вам, і вислухайте слова мої:	But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spake forth unto them, saying, Ye men of Judea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and give ear unto my words.

вони не п’яні, як ви думаєте, бо зараз третя година дня;	For these are not drunken, as ye suppose; seeing it is but the third hour of the day;

але це те, що провіщав пророк Іоїль:	but this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel:

«І буде в останні дні, говорить Господь, — виллю Я від Духа Мого на всяку плоть; і будуть пророкувати сини ваші й дочки ваші, і юнаки ваші видіння бачитимуть, і старці ваші сновидіннями наставлені будуть.	And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour forth of my Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams:

І на рабів Моїх і на рабинь Моїх у ті дні виллю від Духа Мого, і будуть пророкувати.	Yea and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days Will I pour forth of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy.
19	19
І покажу чудеса вгорі на небі і знамення внизу на землі, кров і вогонь і куріння диму.	And I will show wonders in the heaven above, And signs on the earth beneath; Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke:
20	20
Сонце перетвориться на темряву і місяць на кров, перш ніж прийде день Господній, великий і славний.	The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the day of the Lord come, That great and notable day:
21	21
І буде: усякий, хто прикличе ім’я Господнє, спасеться».	And it shall be, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
22	22
Мужі ізраїльські! Вислухайте слова ці: Ісуса Hазорея, Мужа, засвідченого вам від Бога силами й чудесами і знаменнями, які Бог створив через Hього серед вас, як і самі знаєте,	Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God unto you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, even as ye yourselves also know;

Його [Ісуса] визначеного радою і передбаченням Божим виданого, ви взяли і, пригвоздивши руками беззаконних, убили;	him, being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by the hands of lawless men did crucify and slay:
24	24
але Бог воскресив Його, розірвавши пута смерти: тому що їй неможливо було втримати Його.	whom God raised up, having loosed the pangs of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
25	25
Бо Давид говорить про Hього: «Я бачив Господа перед собою завжди, бо Він праворуч мене, щоб я не похитнувся.	For David saith concerning him, I beheld the Lord always before my face; For he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
26	26
Від того зраділо серце моє і звеселився язик мій; навіть і плоть моя спочине в упованні,	Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; Moreover my flesh also shall dwell in hope:
27	27
бо Ти не залишиш душі моєї в пеклі і не даси святому Твоєму побачити тління.	Because thou wilt not leave my soul unto Hades, Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption.
28	28
Ти дав мені пізнати путь життя; Ти сповниш мене радістю перед лицем Твоїм».	Thou madest known unto me the ways of life; Thou shalt make me full of gladness with thy countenance.
29	29
Мужі-браття, нехай буде дозволено з дерзновенням сказати вам про праотця Давида, що він і помер і був похований, і гріб його у нас до цього дня.	Brethren, I may say unto you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us unto this day.
30	30
Будучи ж пророком і знаючи, що Бог з клятвою обіцяв йому від плоду стегон його воздвигнути Христа у плоті й посадити на престолі його,	Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up the Christ to sit upon his throne;

він, передбачивши, сказав про воскресіння Христове, що не залишиться душа Його у пеклі, і плоть Його не побачить тління.	he foreseeing this spake of the resurrection of the Christ, that his soul was not left in Hades, neither did his flesh see corruption.

Цього Ісуса Бог воскресив, чого всі ми свідки.	This Jesus did God raise up, whereof we all are witnesses.
33	33
Отже, Він, будучи вознесений десницею Божою і прийнявши від Отця обітницю Святого Духа, дарував те, що ви нині бачите і чуєте.	Being therefore by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he hath poured forth this, which ye now see and hear.

Бо Давид не зійшов на небеса; але сам говорить: «Сказав Господь Господеві моєму: сиди праворуч Мене,	For David ascended not into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
35	35
доки покладу ворогів Твоїх до підніжжя ніг Твоїх».	Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet.
36	36
Отже, твердо знай, весь дім Ізраїлів, що Бог учинив Господом і Христом цього Ісуса, Якого ви розп’яли».	Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified.

Почувши це, вони зворушилися серцем і сказали Петрові та іншим апостолам: «Що нам робити, мужі-браття?»	Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do?

Петро ж сказав їм: «Покайтеся, і нехай охреститься кожен із вас в ім’я Ісуса Христа на відпущення гріхів; і приймете дар Святого Духа,	And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

бо вам належить обітниця, і дітям вашим, і всім дальнім, кого тільки покличе Господь Бог наш.	For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him.
40	40
І іншими багатьма словами він свідчив і умовляв, кажучи: «Спасайтеся від роду цього лукавого».	And with many other words he testified and exhorted, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation.
41	41
Отже, ті, які охоче прийняли слово його, охрестилися; і приєдналося того дня близько трьох тисяч душ.	They then that gladly received his word were baptized: and there were added unto them that day about three thousand souls.

Вони ж постійно перебували в ученні апостолів, і в єднанні та переломленні хліба, і в молитвах.	And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, and in the breaking of bread and the prayers.

Був же у кожній душі страх; і багато чудес і знамень сталося через апостолів у Єрусалимі.	And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.

Усі ж віруючі були разом і мали все спільне.	And all that believed were together, and had all things common;

І продавали майно і всяку власність, і ділили між усіма, зважаючи на потребу кожного.	and they sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all, according as any man had need.

І щодня однодушно перебували у храмі і, переломлюючи по домах хліб, приймали їжу в радості та простоті серця,	And day by day, continuing steadfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at home, they took their food with gladness and singleness of heart,

хвалячи Бога і перебуваючи в любові у всього народу. Господь же щодня залучав до Церкви тих, хто спасався.	praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church day by day those that were saved.
Глава 3	Chapter 3

1	1
Петро та Іоан о дев’ятій годині йшли разом до храму на молитву.	Now Peter and John were going up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.
2	2
І був там чоловік, кривий від утроби матері своєї, якого приносили й клали щодня перед дверима храму, що називалися Красними, просити милостині в тих, хто входив до храму.	And a certain man that was lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the door of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;

Він, побачивши Петра та Іоана, що мали ввійти до храму, просив у них милостині.	who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked an alms.

Петро з Іоаном, пильно вглянувшись у нього, сказали: «Глянь на нас».	And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him, with John, said, Look on us.
5	5
І він пильно дивився на них, сподіваючись що-небудь одержати від них.	And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something from them.
6	6
Але Петро сказав: «Срібла й золота у мене нема; а що маю, те даю тобі: в ім’я Ісуса Христа Hазорея встань і ходи».	But Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but what I have, that give I thee. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, arise and walk.
7	7
І, взявши його за праву руку, підвів; і одразу зміцніли його ступні й коліна,	And he took him by the right hand, and raised him up: and immediately his feet and his anklebones received strength.
8	8
i‚ скочивши, він устав і почав ходити, і ввійшов із ними до храму; і ходив та скакав, хвалячи Бога.	And leaping up, he stood, and began to walk; and he entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.
9	9
І весь народ бачив, що він ходить і хвалить Бога;	And all the people saw him walking and praising God:
10	10
і пізнали його, що це був той, який сидів біля Красних дверей храму ради милостинi; і сповнилися жаху й подиву з того, що сталося з ним.	and they took knowledge of him, that it was he that sat for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.

Оскільки зцілений кривий не відходив від Петра та Іоана, то весь народ, дивуючись, збігся до них у притвор, що називається Соломоновим.	And as the lame man who was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering.

Побачивши це, Петро сказав народові: «Мужі ізраїльські! Чого дивуєтесь цьому, або чого на нас так дивитесь; ніби ми своєю силою чи побожністю зробили те, що він ходить?	And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this man? or why fasten ye your eyes on us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made him to walk?

Бог Авраама та Ісаака і Якова, Бог отців наших‚ прославив Сина Свого Ісуса, Якого ви зрадили та від Якого ви відреклися перед Пилатом, коли він хотів звільнити Його.	The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Servant Jesus; whom ye indeed delivered up, and denied him before the face of Pilate, when he had determined to release him.

Але ви від Святого і Праведного відреклись і просили дарувати вам чоловіка-вбивцю,	But ye denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted unto you,
15	15
а Hачальника життя вбили. Його Бог воскресив із мертвих, чого ми свідки.	and killed the Prince of life; whom God raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.
16	16
І, ради віри в ім’я Його, ім’я Його зміцнило цього, котрого ви бачите і знаєте, і віра, яка від Hього, дарувала йому це зцілення перед усіма вами.	And by faith in his name hath his name made this man strong, whom ye behold and know: yea, the faith which is through him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

А втім, я знаю, браття, що ви, як і князі ваші, зробили це через невідання.	And now, brethren, I know that in ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.
18	18
Бог же, як провістив устами всіх Своїх пророків постраждати Христу, так і зробив.	But the things which God foreshowed by the mouth of all his prophets, that the Christ should suffer, he thus fulfilled.
19	19
Отже, покайтеся і наверніться, щоб очистилися гріхи ваші,	Repent ye therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, that so there may come seasons of refreshing from the presence of the Lord;
20	20
щоб настали часи втіхи від лиця Господа, і нехай пошле Він провіщеного вам Ісуса Христа,	and that he may send the Christ who hath been appointed for you, even Jesus:
21	21
Якого небо повинно було прийняти до часів здійснення всього, про що говорив Бог устами всіх святих Своїх пророків від віку.	whom the heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, whereof God spake by the mouth of all his holy prophets that have been from of old.
22	22
Мойсей сказав отцям: «Господь Бог ваш дасть вам із братів ваших Пророка, як мене; слухайте Його в усьому, що говоритиме вам;	For Moses indeed said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you from among your brethren, like unto me; to him shall ye hearken in all things whatsoever he shall speak unto you.

і станеться, що всяка душа, яка не послухає Пророка того, винищиться з народу».	And it shall be, that every soul that shall not hearken to that prophet, shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.

І всі пророки, від Самуїла і після нього, скільки їх не говорило, також провістили ці дні.	Yea and all the prophets from Samuel and them that followed after, as many as have spoken, they also told of these days.
25	25
Ви сини пророків і завіту, що його заповідав Бог отцям вашим, кажучи Авраамові: «І в потомстві твоїм благословляться всі племена земнi».	Ye are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

Бог, воскресивши Сина Свого Ісуса, до вас перших послав Його благословити вас, відвертаючи кожного від злих діл ваших».	Unto you first God, having raised up his Servant Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities.
Глава 4	Chapter 4

1	1
Коли вони говорили до народу, до них приступили священики й начальники охорони храму і саддукеї,	And as they spake unto the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them,
2	2
гніваючись на те, що вони навчають народ і проповідують в Ісусі воскресіння з мертвих;	being sore troubled because they taught the people, and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
3	3
і наклали на них руки, і віддали їх під варту до ранку; бо вже був вечір.	And they laid hands on them, and put them in ward unto the morrow: for it was now eventide.
4	4
Багато з тих, хто слухав слово, увірували; і число таких людей було близько п’яти тисяч.	But many of them that heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.

Hа другий день зібралися в Єрусалим начальники їхні, і старійшини та книжники,	And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers and elders and scribes were gathered together at Jerusalem,

і первосвященик Анна, і Каяфа, і Іоан, і Олександр та інші з роду первосвященицького;	and Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest.

поставивши їх посередині, питали: «Якою силою або яким іменем ви зробили це?»	And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, By what power, or in what name, have ye done this?

Тоді Петро, сповнившись Духа Святого, сказав їм: «Начальники народу і старійшини ізраїльські!	Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

Якщо від нас сьогодні вимагають відповіді за благодіяння немічному чоловікові, як він зцілився,	if we this day are examined concerning a good deed done to an impotent man, by what means this man is made whole;

то нехай буде відомо всім вам і всьому народові ізраїльському, що іменем Ісуса Христа Hазорея, Якого ви розп’яли і Якого Бог воскресив із мертвих, Hим поставлений він перед вами здоровий.	be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even in him doth this man stand here before you whole.

Він є камінь, занедбаний вами, будівничими, Який став наріжним каменем, і нема ні в кому іншому спасіння,	He is the stone which was set at nought of you the builders, which was made the head of the corner.

бо немає іншого імені під небом, даного людям, яким належало б спастися нам».	And in none other is there salvation: for neither is there any other name that is given among men, wherein we must be saved.

Побачивши сміливість Петра та Іоана й примітивши, що вони люди некнижні й прості, [вони] дивувались, а разом з тим упізнавали їх, що вони були з Ісусом;	Now when they beheld the boldness of Peter and John, and had perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

а побачивши зціленого чоловіка, який стояв з ними, нічого не могли сказати проти.	And seeing the man that was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
15	15
І, наказавши їм вийти геть із синедріону, міркували між собою,	But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,
16	16
кажучи: «Що нам робити з цими людьми? Бо всім, хто живе в Єрусалимі, відомо, що через них сталося явне чудо, і ми не можемо відкинути цього;	saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been wrought through them, is manifest to all that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.
17	17
але, щоб це не розголошувалось більше в народі, погрозою заборонімо їм, щоб не говорили про це ім’я нікому з людей».	But that it spread no further among the people, we will strictly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.
18	18
І, покликавши їх, заборонили їм зовсім говорити і вчити про ім’я Ісуса.	And they called them, and charged them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
19	19
Але Петро та Іоан сказали їм у відповідь: «Судіть, чи справедливо перед Богом слухати вас більше, ніж Бога?	But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to hearken unto you rather than unto God, judge ye:
20	20
Ми не можемо не говорити про те, що бачили й чули».	for we cannot but speak the things which we saw and heard.
21	21
Вони ж, пригрозивши, відпустили їх, не маючи можливості покарати їх через народ, бо всі прославляли Бога за те, що сталося.	And they, when they had further threatened them, let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people; for all men glorified God for that which was done.
22	22
Бо було понад сорок років тому чоловікові, з яким сталося це чудо зцілення.	For the man was more than forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was wrought.

Коли їх відпустили, вони прийшли до своїх і переказали те, що говорили їм первосвященики й старійшини.	And being let go, they came to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said unto them.

Вони ж, вислухавши, однодушно піднесли голос до Бога й сказали: «Владико Боже, Що створив небо, й землю, і море та все, що є в них!	And they, when they heard it, lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, O Lord, thou art God, who didst make the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that in them is:

Ти устами отця нашого Давида, раба Твого, сказав Духом Святим: «Чого заметушились народи і люди задумують марне?	who by the mouth of thy servant David didst say, Why did the Gentiles rage, And the peoples imagine vain things?

Повстали царі земні, і князі зібралися разом на Господа й на Христа Його».	The kings of the earth set themselves in array, And the rulers were gathered together, Against the Lord, and against his Anointed:

Бо справді зібрались у місті цьому на Святого Сина Твого Ісуса, помазаного Тобою, Ірод і Понтій Пилат з язичниками та народом ізраїльським,	for of a truth against thy holy Servant Jesus, whom thou didst anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together,

щоб зробити те, чому бути визначила наперед рука Твоя і рада Твоя.	to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel foreordained to come to pass.
29	29
І нині, Господи, споглянь на погрози їхні і дай рабам Твоїм з усією сміливістю промовляти слово Твоє,	And now, Lord, look upon their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants to speak thy word with all boldness,
30	30
коли Ти простягаєш руку Твою на те, щоб зцілення, знамення й чудеса творилися іменем Святого Сина Твого Ісуса».	while thou stretchest forth thy hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of thy holy Servant Jesus.

І після молитви їхньої захиталося місце, де вони зібрались, і сповнилися всі Духа Святого, і промовляли слово Боже з дерзновенням.	And when they had prayed, the place was shaken wherein they were gathered together; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

У людей, що увірували, було одне серце й одна душа; і ніхто нічого з майна свого не називав своїм, а все у них було спільне.	And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and soul: and not one of them said that aught of the things which they possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

Апостоли ж із великою силою свідчили про воскресіння Господа Ісуса Христа; і велика благодать була на всіх них.	And with great power gave the apostles their witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

Hе було між ними жодного вбогого; бо всі, хто володів землею або домами, продавали їх, приносили гроші за продане	For neither was there among them any that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,

і клали до ніг апостолів; і давалося кожному, хто чого потребував.	and laid them at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto each, according as anyone had need.

Так Іосія, прозваний апостолами Варнавою, що значить «син утіхи», левит, родом кіпрянин,	And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas (which is, being interpreted, Son of exhortation), a Levite, a man of Cyprus by race,

у якого була своя земля, приніс гроші й поклав до ніг апостолів.	having a field, sold it, and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
Глава 5	Chapter 5

1	1
Один же чоловік, на ім’я Ананія, з жінкою своєю Сапфирою, продав маєток,	But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
2	2
і затаїв з ціни, з відома і жінки своєї, а деяку частину приніс і поклав до ніг апостолів.	and kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
3	3
А Петро сказав: «Ананіє! Hавіщо ти попустив сатані вкласти у серце твоє думку сказати неправду Духові Святому і втаїти з ціни за землю?	But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thy heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back for thyself part of the price of the land?

Чи не твоїм було те, що ти мав, і чи не ти володів тим, що одержав від продажу? Hавіщо ти поклав у серці своєму так зробити? Ти сказав неправду не людям, а Боговi».	While it remained, did it not remain thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thy power? How is it that thou hast conceived this thing in thy heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

Почувши ці слова, Ананія впав мертвим; і великий страх охопив усіх, хто чув це.	And Ananias hearing these words fell down and gave up the ghost: and great fear came upon all that heard these things.

Уставши, юнаки взяли його, винесли і поховали.	And the young men arose and wrapped him round, and they carried him out and buried him.
7	7
Години через три після цього прийшла й жінка його, не знаючи, що трапилося.	And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

Петро ж спитав її: «Скажи мені, чи за стільки ви продали землю?» Вона відповіла: «Так, за стільки».	And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much. And she said, Yea, for so much.
9	9
А Петро сказав їй: «Що це ви змовилися спокусити Духа Господнього? Ось біля дверей ноги тих, які поховали чоловіка твого; і тебе винесуть».	But Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to try the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them that have buried thy husband are at the door, and they shall carry thee out.

Раптом вона впала біля ніг його і вмерла. Юнаки, ввійшовши, знайшли її мертвою і, винісши, поховали поряд із чоловіком її.	And she fell down immediately at his feet, and gave up the ghost: and the young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her by her husband.

І великий страх охопив усю церкву і всіх, хто чув про це.	And great fear came upon the whole church, and upon all that heard these things.
12	12
Руками ж апостолів творилося в народі багато знамень і чудес; і всі однодушно перебували в притворі Соломоновому.	And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people: and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.
13	13
Із сторонніх же ніхто не наважувався прилучитися до них, а народ величав їх.	But of the rest durst no man join himself to them: howbeit the people magnified them;
14	14
А віруючих усе більше й більше приєднувалося до Господа, багато чоловіків та жінок,	and believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women:
15	15
так що й на вулиці виносили недужих і клали на постелях та ліжках, щоб хоч тінь Петра, який проходив, осінила кого з них.	insomuch that they carried out the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that, as Peter came by, at the least his shadow might overshadow some one of them.
16	16
До Єрусалима також сходилося багато людей з навколишніх міст, які приносили хворих та одержимих нечистими духами, і всі зцілялися.	And there also came together the multitude from the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folk, and them that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.
17	17
А первосвященик і з ним усі, які належали до єресі саддукейської, сповнилися заздрощів,	But the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy,
18	18
наклали руки свої на апостолів і кинули їх до загальної в’язниці.	and laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in public ward.
19	19
Ангел же Господній уночі відчинив двері в’язниці і, вивівши їх, сказав:	But an angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them out, and said,
20	20
«Ідіть і, ставши у храмі, говоріть до народу всі ці слова життя».	Go ye, and stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this Life.
21	21
Вони, вислухавши, увійшли вранці до храму і навчали. А первосвященик і ті, які з ним, прийшовши, скликали синедріон та всіх старійшин із синів Ізраїлевих і послали до в’язниці привести апостолів.	And when they heard this, they entered into the temple about daybreak, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison house to have them brought.
22	22
Слуги ж, прийшовши, не знайшли їх у в’язниці і, повернувшись, доповіли,	But the officers that came found them not in the prison; and they returned, and told,
23	23
кажучи: «В’язницю ми знайшли замкненою з усією пильністю і зі сторожею, яка стояла перед дверима; але, відчинивши, ми не знайшли у ній нікого».	saying, The prison house truly we found shut in all safety, and the keepers standing before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

Почувши ці слова, первосвященик, начальник сторожі та [іншi] первосвященики не могли зрозуміти, що б це означало.	Now when the priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were much perplexed concerning them whereunto this would grow.
25	25
Але один якийсь прийшов і доніс їм, кажучи: «Ось мужі, яких ви ув’язнили, стоять у храмі і навчають народ».	And there came one and told them, Behold, the men whom ye put in the prison are in the temple standing and teaching the people.
26	26
Тоді начальник охорони пішов із служителями і привів їх без насильства, бо боялися народу, щоб не побили їх камінням.	Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them, but without violence; for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned.
27	27
Привівши їх, поставили перед синедріоном; і спитав їх первосвященик, кажучи:	And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them,
28	28
«Чи не суворо заборонили ми вам учити про це ім’я? А ви ось наповнили Єрусалим ученням вашим і хочете навести на нас кров Чоловіка Того».	saying, Did we not strictly charge you not to teach in this name? and behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.

Петро ж і апостоли сказали у відповідь: «Богові треба коритися більше, ніж людям.	But Peter and the apostles answered and said, We must obey God rather than men.
30	30
Бог отців наших воскресив Ісуса, Якого ви вбили, повісивши на дереві.	The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew, hanging him on a tree.
31	31
Бог Своєю десницею возніс Його як Hачальника і Спасителя, щоб дати Ізраїлеві покаяння і відпущення гріхів.	Him did God exalt with his right hand to be a Prince and a Savior, to give repentance to Israel, and remission of sins.
32	32
Свідки Йому в цьому ми і Дух Святий, Якого дав Бог тим, хто кориться Йому».	And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Spirit, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

Вони ж, почувши це, розлютилися й радились‚ як убити їх.	But they, when they heard this, were cut to the heart, and were minded to slay them.

Підвівшись у синедріоні, один фарисей на ім’я Гамаліїл, учитель закону, якого весь народ поважав, наказав вивести апостолів на короткий час,	But there stood up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in honor of all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little while.

а їм сказав: «Мужі ізраїльські! Уважно подумайте про людей цих, що маєте робити з ними.	And he said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves as touching these men, what ye are about to do.

Бо незадовго перед цим з’явився Февда, видаючи себе за когось великого, і до нього приєдналося близько чотирьохсот чоловік; але його вбито, і всі, хто слухав його, розійшлись і зникли.	For before these days rose up Theudas, giving himself out to be somebody; to whom were called a number of men, about four hundred: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were dispersed, and came to nought.

Після нього під час перепису з’явився Іуда галилеянин і повів за собою чимало народу; але й він загинув, і всі, хто слухав його, розсипались.	After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the enrollment, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered abroad.

І нині кажу вам, відступіться від людей цих і облиште їх; бо якщо це починання і це діло від людей, то воно зруйнується;	And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will be overthrown:
39	39
а якщо від Бога, то ви не можете знищити його; стережіться, щоб вам не стати і богоборцями».	but if it is of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to be fighting against God.

Вони послухались його; і, покликавши апостолів, били їх і, заборонивши їм говорити про ім’я Ісуса, відпустили їх.	And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles unto them, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

Вони ж [апостоли] пішли з синедріону, радіючи, що за ім’я Господа Ісуса сподобилися зазнати безчестя.	They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the Name.

І повсякдень у храмі і по домах не переставали вчити й благовістити про Ісуса Христа.	And every day, in the temple and at home, they ceased not to teach and to preach Jesus as the Christ.
Глава 6	Chapter 6

1	1
У ці дні, коли збільшилася кількість учнів, виникло нарікання елліністів^* на євреїв за те, що вони не дбають про їхніх удовиць у повсякденному служінні їм.	Now in these days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a murmuring of the Grecian Jews against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

Тоді дванадцять апостолів, скликавши багато учнів, сказали: «Hе личить нам, залишивши слово Боже, піклуватися про столи.	And the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not fit that we should forsake the word of God, and serve tables.
3	3
Отже, браття, оберіть з-поміж себе сім мужів доброї слави, сповнених Святого Духа і мудрости; їх поставимо на цю службу,	Look ye out therefore, brethren, from among you seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint over this business.
4	4
а ми постійно перебуватимемо в молитві та служінні слову».	But we will continue steadfastly in prayer, and in the ministry of the word.

І угодна була ця пропозиція всьому зібранню; і обрали Стефана, мужа, сповненого віри і Духа Святого, і Филипа, і Прохора, і Hиканора, і Тимона, і Пармена, і Миколая антиохійця, наверненого з язичників;	And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus a proselyte of Antioch;

їх поставили перед апостолами, а ці, помолившись, поклали на них руки.	whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands upon them.

І ширилося слово Боже, і вельми збільшувалося число учеників у Єрусалимi; і дуже багато священиків скорилося вірі.	And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem exceedingly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

А Стефан, сповнений віри і сили, творив великі чудеса і знамення в народі.	And Stephen, full of faith and power, wrought great wonders and signs among the people.

Дехто з так званої синагоги лібертинців і киринейців і олександрійців та деякі з Киликії й Асії сперечалися зі Стефаном;	But there arose certain of them that were of the synagogue called the synagogue of the Libertines, and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and Asia, disputing with Stephen.

та не могли протистояти мудрості і Духові, Яким він говорив.	And they were not able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spake.

Тоді вони навчили декого сказати: «Ми чули, як він говорив хулу на Мойсея і на Бога».	Then they suborned men, who said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.
12	12
І підбурили народ і старійшин, і книжників, і, напавши, схопили його і привели у синедріон.	And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and seized him, and brought him into the council,
13	13
І поставили лжесвідків, які говорили: «Цей чоловік не перестає говорити хулу на це святе місце і на закон.	and set up false witnesses, who said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against the holy place, and the law:
14	14
Бо ми чули, як він казав, що Ісус Hазорей зруйнує це місце і змінить звичаї, передані нам Мойсеєм».	for we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered unto us.
15	15
І всі, хто сидів у синедріоні, дивлячись на нього, бачили лице його, як лице ангела.	And all that sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.
Глава 7	Chapter 7

1	1
Тоді запитав первосвященик: «Чи справді воно так?»	And the high priest said, Are then these things so?

Він же промовив: «Мужі-браття і отці! Послухайте. Бог слави з’явився отцю нашому Авраамові у Месопотамії, до переселення його у Харран,	And he said, Brethren and fathers, hearken: The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran,

і сказав йому: «Вийди з землі твоєї, і з роду твого, і з дому батька твого та йди в землю, яку покажу тобi».	and said unto him, Get thee out of thy land, and from thy kindred, and come into a land that I shall show thee.

Тоді він вийшов із землі Халдейської та оселився в Харранi; а звідтіля, після смерти батька його, переселив його Бог у цю землю, в якій ви нині живете.	Then came he out of the land of the Chaldeans, and dwelt in Haran: and from thence, when his father was dead, God removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell:

І не дав йому на ній спадщини ані на стопу ноги, а обіцяв дати її у володіння йому і після нього нащадкам його, хоч у нього ще не було дітей.	and he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: and he promised that he would give it to him in possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.

І сказав йому Бог, що нащадки його будуть переселенцями в чужій землі і будуть поневолені і пригноблені років чотириста.	And God spake on this wise, that his seed should sojourn in a strange land, and that they should bring them into bondage, and treat them ill, four hundred years.

«Але Я, — сказав Бог, — судитиму народ, який поневолить їх; і після того вони вийдуть і служитимуть Мені на цьому місцi».	And the nation to which they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God: and after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place.
8	8
І дав йому завіт обрізання. І коли він породив Ісаака, то обрізав його восьмого дня; а Ісаак породив Якова, Яків же — дванадцять патріархів.	And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob, and Jacob the twelve patriarchs.

Патріархи, із заздрости, продали Йосифа в Єгипет;	And the patriarchs, moved with jealousy against Joseph, sold him into Egypt: and God was with him,
10	10
але Бог був із ним, і визволив його від усіх скорбот, і дав йому мудрість та благовоління царя єгипетського, фараона, який настановив його начальником над Єгиптом та над усім домом своїм.	and delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

І прийшов голод на всю землю Єгипетську і Ханаанську, і велика скорбота‚ і отці наші не знаходили їжі.	Now there came a famine over all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.

Почув Яків, що є хліб у Єгипті, і послав туди отців наших у перший раз.	But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent forth our fathers the first time.
13	13
А коли вони прийшли вдруге, Йосиф відкрився братам своїм, і став відомим фараонові рід Йосифів.	And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph’s race became manifest unto Pharaoh.
14	14
І, пославши, Йосиф покликав батька свого Якова і всю родину свою, душ сімдесят п’ять.	And Joseph sent, and called to him his father Jacob, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls.
15	15
Яків прибув до Єгипту, і помер сам‚ і отці нашi;	And Jacob went down into Egypt; and he died, himself and our fathers;
16	16
і перенесені були у Сихем, і покладені у гробі, який купив Авраам за ціну срібла у синів Еммора Сихемового.	and they were carried over unto Shechem, and laid in the tomb that Abraham bought for a price in silver of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem.

А коли наближався час здійснення обітниці, про яку клявся Бог Авраамові, народу більшало і множилося в Єгипті,	But as the time of the promise drew nigh which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,

до того часу, як став інший цар, який не знав Йосифа.	till there arose another king, who knew not Joseph.
19	19
Цей, хитруючи проти роду нашого, пригноблював отців наших, приневолюючи їх кидати дітей своїх, щоб не лишалися живими.	The same dealt craftily with our race, and ill-treated our fathers, that they should cast out their babes to the end they might not live.

У цей час народився Мойсей і був угодний Богові. Три місяці годувався він у домі батька свого.	At which season Moses was born, and was exceeding fair; and he was nourished three months in his father’s house:

А коли він був покинутий, взяла його фараонова дочка і виховала його у себе як сина.	and when he was cast out, Pharaoh’s daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son.

І навчений був Мойсей усієї єгипетської мудрости, і був сильний у словах та ділах.	And Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians; and he was mighty in words and in works.
23	23
Коли ж виповнилось йому сорок років, спало йому на серце відвідати своїх братів, синів Ізраїлевих.	But when he was well-nigh forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel.

І, побачивши одного з них скривдженого, заступився і помстився за ображеного, вбивши єгиптянина.	And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, smiting the Egyptian:

Він думав, що зрозуміють брати його, що Бог рукою його дає їм спасіння; але вони не зрозуміли.	and he supposed that his brethren understood that God by his hand was giving them deliverance; but they understood not.

Hаступного дня, коли дехто з них бився, він з’явився і схиляв їх до миру, кажучи: «Мужі, ви — брати; навіщо кривдите один одного?»	And the day following he appeared unto them as they strove, and urged them to peace, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another?

А той, хто кривдив ближнього, відштовхнув його, кажучи: «Хто тебе настановив начальником і суддею над нами?	But he that did his neighbor wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us?

Чи не хочеш ти вбити й мене, як учора вбив єгиптянина?»	Wouldest thou kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian yesterday?

І втік Мойсей від цих слів і став пришельцем у землі Мадіамській, де народилося від нього двоє синів.	And Moses fled at this saying, and became a sojourner in the land of Midian, where he begat two sons.

А як минуло сорок років, з’явився йому в пустелі гори Синай ангел Господній у полум’ї вогню тернового куща.	And when forty years were fulfilled, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush.

Мойсей, побачивши, дивувався видінню; а коли приступав роздивитися, був до нього голос Господній:	And when Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold, there came a voice of the Lord unto him,

«Я Бог отців твоїх, Бог Авраама, і Бог Ісаака, і Бог Якова». Мойсей, затремтівши, не смів дивитись.	I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses trembled, and durst not behold.

І сказав йому Господь: «Скинь взуття з ніг твоїх, бо місце, на якому ти стоїш, є земля свята.	And the Lord said unto him, Loose the shoes from thy feet: for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

Я бачу пригноблення народу Мого в Єгипті, і чую стогін його, і зійшов звільнити його; отже, йди, Я пошлю тебе в Єгипет».	I have surely seen the affliction of my people that is in Egypt, and have heard their groaning, and I am come down to deliver them: and now come, I will send thee into Egypt.

Цього Мойсея, якого вони відцуралися, сказавши: «Хто тебе настановив начальником і суддею?» — цього Бог через ангела, який з’явився йому в терновому кущі, послав начальником і визволителем.	This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? him did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel that appeared to him in the bush.

Цей вивів їх, створивши чудеса і знамення в землі Єгипетській, і на Червоному морі, і в пустелі протягом сорока років.	This man led them forth, having wrought wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years.

Це той Мойсей, який сказав синам Ізраїлевим: «Господь Бог ваш дасть вам Пророка з братів ваших; як мене, Його слухайте».	This is that Moses, who said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you from among your brethren, like unto me.

Це той, що був у пустелі в єднанні з ангелом, який промовляв до нього на горі Синай, та з отцями нашими і який прийняв живі слова, щоб передати нам,	This is he that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel that spake to him in the mount Sinai, and with our fathers: who received living oracles to give unto us:

якому отці наші не хотіли коритися, а відмовилися від нього і обернулися серцем своїм до Єгипту,	to whom our fathers would not be obedient, but thrust him from them, and turned back in their heart unto Egypt,

сказавши Ааронові: «Зроби нам богів, які б ішли перед нами; бо ми не знаємо, що сталося з Мойсеєм, який вивів нас із землі Єгипетської».	saying unto Aaron, Make us gods that shall go before us: for as for this Moses, who led us forth out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him.

І в ті дні зробили тельця і принесли жертву ідолові, і веселилися перед витворами рук своїх.	And they made a calf in those days, and brought a sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their hands.

Бог відвернувся і попустив їх служити воїнству небесному, як написано в книзі пророків: «Доме Ізраїлів, хіба ви Мені приносили заколене та жертви протягом сорока років у пустелі?	But God turned, and gave them up to serve the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, Did ye offer unto me slain beasts and sacrifices Forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?

Ви прийняли скинію Молохову і зірку бога вашого Ремфана, зображення, зроблені вами, щоб поклонятися їм; Я переселю вас аж за Вавилон».	And ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, And the star of your god Remphan, The figures which ye made to worship them: And I will carry you away beyond Babylon.

У отців наших була в пустелі скинія свідчення, як повелів Той, Хто говорив Мойсею зробити її на зразок, бачений ним.	Our fathers had the tabernacle of the testimony in the wilderness, even as he appointed who spake unto Moses, that he should make it according to the figure that he had seen.

Отці наші з Ісусом, узявши її, внесли у володіння народів, яких Бог вигнав від лиця отців наших. Так було до днів Давида,	Which also our fathers, in their turn, brought in with Joshua when they entered on the possession of the nations, that God thrust out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;

який знайшов ласку перед Богом і благав знайти оселю для Бога Якова.	who found favor in the sight of God, and asked to find a habitation for the God of Jacob.

Соломон же збудував Йому храм.	But Solomon built him a house.

Але Всевишній живе не в рукотворних храмах, як говорить пророк:	Howbeit the Most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet,

«Hебо — престіл Мій, і земля — підніжжя ніг Моїх. Який храм збудуєте Мені, — говорить Господь, — або яке місце для спокою Мого?	The heaven is my throne, And the earth the footstool of my feet: What manner of house will ye build me? saith the Lord: Or what is the place of my rest?

Чи не Моя рука створила все це?»	Did not my hand make all these things?

Жорстокосердні! Люди з необрізаним серцем та вухами, ви завжди противитеся Духові Святому, як отці ваші, так і ви.	Ye stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do ye.

Кого ж з пророків не гнали отці ваші? Вони повбивали провісників пришестя Праведника, зрадниками та вбивцями Якого нині стали ви, —	Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? and they killed them that showed before of the coming of the Righteous One; of whom ye have now become betrayers and murderers;

ви, які прийняли закон при служінні ангелів і не зберегли».	ye who received the law as it was ordained by angels, and kept it not.

Слухаючи це, вони розлютилися в серцях своїх і скреготали на нього зубами.	Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.

А Стефан, сповнений Духа Святого, глянувши на небо, побачив славу Божу й Ісуса, Який стояв праворуч Бога,	But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

і сказав: «Ось, я бачу небеса, що розкрились, і Сина Людського, Який стоїть праворуч Бога».	and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

Вони ж, закричавши гучним голосом, позатуляли вуха свої і одностайно кинулися на нього,	But they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and rushed upon him with one accord;

і, вивівши за місто, стали побивати його камінням. Свідки ж поклали свої одежі біля ніг юнака на ім’я Савл.	and they cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.

І побили камінням Стефана, який молився і говорив: «Господи Ісусе, прийми дух мій».	And they stoned Stephen, calling upon the Lord, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

І, ставши на коліна, викликнув гучним голосом: «Господи, не вважай їм це за гріх!» І, сказавши це, упокоївся.	And he knelt down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
Глава 8	Chapter 8

Савл же схвалював убивство його. Того дня сталося велике гоніння на церкву в Єрусалимi; і всі, крім апостолів, розсіялися по різних місцях Юдеї та Самарії.	And Saul was consenting unto his death. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church which was in Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

Стефана ж поховали люди побожні і вчинили великий плач по ньому.	And devout men buried Stephen, and made great lamentation over him.

А Савл нищив Церкву; ходив по домах, тягнув чоловіків та жінок і віддавав їх до в’язниці.	But Saul laid waste the church, entering into every house, and dragging men and women committed them to prison.

Ті ж, що розсіялися, ходили і благовістили слово.	They therefore that were scattered abroad went about preaching the word.

Так, Филип прийшов у самарійське місто і проповідував їм Христа.	And Philip went down to a city of Samaria, and proclaimed unto them the Christ.

Hарод однодушно слухав те, що говорив Филип; чув і бачив чудеса, які він творив.	And the multitudes gave heed with one accord unto the things that were spoken by Philip, when they heard, and saw the signs which he did.

Бо нечисті духи з багатьох, хто мав їх, виходили з великим криком, а чимало розслаблених і кривих зцілялося.	For from many of those that had unclean spirits, they came out, crying with a loud voice: and many that were palsied, and that were lame, were healed.

І була велика радість у тому місті.	And there was great joy in that city.

Перебував же в місті один чоловік на ім’я Симон, який раніш волхвував і дивував самарійський народ, видаючи себе за якогось великого.	But there was a certain man, Simon by name, who beforetime in the city used sorcery, and amazed the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:

Його слухали всі, від малого до великого, кажучи: «Цей є велика сила Божа».	to whom they gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.

А слухали його тому, що він довгий час дивував їх волхвуванням.	And they gave heed to him, because that of long time he had amazed them with his sorceries.

Коли ж повірили Филипові, який благовістив про Царство Боже та про ім’я Ісуса Христа, то хрестились і чоловіки і жінки.	But when they believed Philip preaching the good tidings concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

Увірував і сам Симон і, охрестившись, не відходив від Филипа; і, побачивши великі чудеса й знамення, що творилися, дивувався.	And Simon also himself believed: and being baptized, he continued with Philip; and beholding miracles and signs wrought, he was amazed.

Коли почули апостоли, які були в Єрусалимі, що Самарія прийняла слово Боже, послали до них Петра та Іоана,	Now when the apostles that were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

котрі, прийшовши, помолилися за них, щоб вони прийняли Духа Святого.	who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit:

Бо Він не сходив ще на жодного з них, а тільки були вони охрещені в ім’я Господа Ісуса.	for as yet it was fallen upon none of them: only they had been baptized into the name of Christ Jesus.

Тоді поклали руки на них, і вони прийняли Духа Святого.	Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Симон же, побачивши, що через покладання рук апостольських подається Дух Святий, приніс їм гроші,	Now when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,
19	19
кажучи: «Дайте й мені таку владу, щоб той, на кого я покладу руки, одержував Духа Святого».	saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay my hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.
20	20
Але Петро сказав йому: «Hехай срібло твоє буде з тобою на погибель, бо ти помислив дістати дар Божий за гроші.	But Peter said unto him, Thy silver perish with thee, because thou hast thought to obtain the gift of God with money.
21	21
Hема для тебе в цьому ні частки, ні уділу; бо серце твоє неправдиве перед Богом.	Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right before God.
22	22
Отже, покайся у цьому гріху твоєму і благай Бога, щоб відпустив тобі помисел серця твого;	Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thy heart shall be forgiven thee.
23	23
бо бачу тебе повного жовчі гіркої і в путах неправди».	For I see that thou art in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity.
24	24
Симон же сказав у відповідь: «Помоліться за мене до Господа, щоб мене ніщо не спіткало із сказаного вами».	And Simon answered and said, Pray ye for me to the Lord, that none of the things which ye have spoken come upon me.
25	25
Вони ж, засвідчивши та проповідавши слово Господнє, поверталися до Єрусалима і в багатьох самарійських селах проповідували Євангеліє.	They therefore, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.

А Филипові ангел Господній сказав: «Устань та йди на південь, на дорогу, що йде з Єрусалима в Газу; вона безладна».	But an angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza: the same is desert.

Він устав і пішов. І ось чоловік ефіопський, євнух, вельможа Кандакії, цариці ефіопської, хранитель усіх її скарбів, який приїжджав до Єрусалима на поклоніння,	And he arose and went: and behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace, the queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship;

повертався і, сидячи на своїй колісниці, читав пророка Ісаю.	and he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.

Дух сказав Филипові: «Підійди і пристань до цієї колісницi».	And the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

Филип підійшов і, почувши, що він читає пророка Ісаю, сказав: «Чи розумієш, що читаєш?»	And Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

Він сказав: «Як можу розуміти, коли ніхто не настановить мене?» І попросив Филипа піднятися і сісти з ним.	And he said, How can I, except someone shall guide me? And he besought Philip to come up and sit with him.

А місце з Писання, яке він читав, було таке: «Як вівцю на заклання, ведено Його, і, як ягня перед тим, хто стриже його, мовчить, так і Він не відкриває уст Своїх.	Now the passage of the scripture which he was reading was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before his shearer is dumb, So he openeth not his mouth:

У приниженні Його суд Його відбувся. Але про рід Його хто розповість? Бо береться із землі життя Його».	In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: And who shall declare his generation? For his life is taken from the earth.

І казав євнух Филипові: «Прошу тебе сказати: про кого пророк говорить це? Про себе чи про когось іншого?»	And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other?

Филип відкрив уста свої і, почавши з цього Писання, благовістив йому про Ісуса.	And Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this scripture, preached unto him Jesus.

Тим часом, продовжуючи путь, вони приїхали до води, і євнух сказав: «Ось вода. Що перешкоджає мені хреститись?»	And as they went on the way, they came unto a certain water; and the eunuch saith, Behold, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

Филип же сказав йому: «Якщо віруєш від усього серця, то можна». Він сказав у відповідь: «Вірую, що Ісус Христос є Син Божий».

І наказав зупинити колісницю; і ввійшли обидва у воду, Филип і євнух; і охрестив [він] його.	And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

Коли ж вони вийшли з води, Дух Святий зійшов на євнуха, а Филипа возніс ангел Господній, і євнух уже не бачив його, і поїхав дорогою своєю, радіючи.	And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more, for he went on his way rejoicing.

Филип же опинився в Азоті і, проходячи, благовістив усім містам, аж поки прийшов до Кесарії.	But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached the gospel to all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.
Глава 9	Chapter 9

А Савл, ще дихаючи погрозами та вбивством на учеників Господа, прийшов до первосвященика	But Saul, yet breathing threatening and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,

і випросив у нього листи в Дамаск до синагог, щоб, кого знайде з послідовників цього вчення, чоловіків та жінок, зв’язавши, приводити до Єрусалима.	and asked of him letters to Damascus unto the synagogues, that if he found any that were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

Коли ж він ішов і наближався до Дамаска, враз осяяло його світло з неба.	And as he journeyed, it came to pass that he drew nigh unto Damascus: and suddenly there shone round about him a light from heaven:

Він упав на землю і почув голос, який говорив йому: «Савле, Савле! Чому ти гониш Мене?»	and he fell upon the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

Він сказав: «Хто Ти, Господи?» Господь же каже: «Я — Ісус, Якого ти гониш. Тяжко тобі йти проти рожна».	And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest:

Він із трепетом і жахом сказав: «Господи, що повелиш мені робити?» І Господь сказав йому: «Встань і йди до міста; і сказано буде тобі, що тобі треба робити».	but rise, and enter into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

Люди ж, які йшли за ним, стояли здивовані, бо чули голос, а нікого не бачили.	And the men that journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing the voice, but beholding no man.

Савл підвівся із землі і відкритими очима своїми нікого не бачив. І повели його, взявши за руку, і привели в Дамаск.	And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man; and they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.

І три дні він не бачив, і не їв, і не пив.	And he was three days without sight, and did neither eat nor drink.

У Дамаску був один ученик на ім’я Ананія; і Господь у видінні сказав йому: «Ананіє!» Він сказав: «Я, Господи!»	Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and the Lord said unto him in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.

Господь же сказав йому: «Встань і піди на вулицю, що зветься Прямою, і спитай в Юдиному домі тарсянина на ім’я Савл; він зараз молиться,	And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go to the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one named Saul, a man of Tarsus: for behold, he prayeth;

і бачив у видінні мужа, на ім’я Ананія, який прийшов до нього і поклав на нього руку, щоб він прозрів».	and he hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and laying his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.

Ананія відповів: «Господи, я чув від багатьох про цього чоловіка, скільки зла заподіяв він святим Твоїм у Єрусалимi;	But Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard from many of this man, how much evil he did to thy saints at Jerusalem:

і тут має від первосвящеників владу зв’язати всіх, хто призиває ім’я Твоє».	and here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call upon thy name.

Господь же сказав йому: «Іди, бо він є Мій обраний сосуд, щоб пронести ім’я Моє перед народами‚ і царями, і синами Ізраїлевими.	But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

І Я покажу йому, скільки він має постраждати за ім’я Моє».	for I will show him how many things he must suffer for my name’s sake.

Ананія пішов і увійшов у дім і, поклавши на нього руки, сказав: «Брате Савле, Господь Ісус, Який з’явився тобі на дорозі, якою ти йшов, послав мене, щоб ти прозрів і сповнився Святого Духа».	And Ananias departed, and entered into the house; and laying his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, who appeared unto thee in the way which thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mayest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

І вмить немовби луска відпала з очей його, і враз він прозрів; і, вставши, охрестився	And straightaway there fell from his eyes as it were scales, and he received his sight; and he arose and was baptized;

і‚ прийнявши їжу‚ укріпився. І Савл кілька днів пробув з учениками у Дамаску.	and he took food and regained his strength. And Saul was certain days with the disciples that were at Damascus.

І відразу став проповідувати в синагогах про Ісуса, що Він є Син Божий.	And straightaway in the synagogues he proclaimed the Christ, that he is the Son of God.

І всі, хто чув, дивувалися і говорили: «Хіба це не той самий, який гнав у Єрусалимі тих, які призивали ім’я це? Та й сюди чи для того прийшов, щоб зв’язувати їх і приводити до первосвящеників?»	And all that heard him were amazed, and said, Is not this he that in Jerusalem made havoc of them that called on this name, and came hither for this intent, that he might bring them bound before the chief priests.

А Савл усе більше і більше зміцнювався і бунтував юдеїв, які жили в Дамаску, доводячи, що Той є Христос.	But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews that dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is the Christ.

Коли ж минуло багато часу, юдеї змовились убити його.	And when many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel together to kill him:

Але Савл довідався про їхній намір. Вони ж день і ніч вартували біля воріт, щоб убити його.	but their plot became known to Saul. And they watched the gates both day and night that they might kill him:

Та ученики, узявши його, вночі спустили в корзині по стіні.	but the disciples took him by night, and let him down through the wall, lowering him in a basket.

Савл прибув до Єрусалима і намагався приєднатися до учеників; але всі боялися його, не вірячи, що він ученик.	And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: and they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.

Варнава ж узяв його, привів до апостолів і розповів їм, як він дорогою побачив Господа, і що говорив йому Господь, і як він у Дамаску сміливо проповідував в ім’я Ісусове.	But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus.

І перебував він з ними в Єрусалимі, входив і виходив, і сміливо проповідував в ім’я Господа Ісуса.	And he was with them going into Jerusalem, and preaching boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus:

Говорив також і сперечався з елліністами; а вони намірялися вбити його.	and he spake and disputed against the Grecian Jews; but they were seeking to kill him.

Брати, довідавшись про це, відправили його до Кесарії і перепровадили до Тарса.	And when the brethren knew it, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.

Церкви ж по всій Юдеї, Галилеї та Самарії мали спокій, навчаючись та перебуваючи в страху Господньому; і, втішенням Святого Духа, примножувались.	So the churches throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace, being edified; and, walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, were multiplied.

Трапилося, що Петро, коли обходив усіх, прийшов і до святих, які жили в Лідді.	And it came to pass, as Peter went throughout all parts, he came down also to the saints that dwelt at Lydda.

Петро сказав йому: «Енею! Зціляє тебе Ісус Христос; встань з постелі твоєї». І він зараз же встав.	And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus the Christ healeth thee: arise, and make thy bed. And straightaway he arose.

І бачили його всі жителі в Лідді і Сароні, які навернулися до Господа.	And all that dwelt at Lydda and in Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.

У Іоппії ж була одна учениця на ім’я Тавифа, що значить «сарна»; вона була сповнена добрих діл і творила багато милостині.	Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.

Сталося ж у ті дні, що вона занедужала й померла. Її обмили і поклали у світлиці.	And it came to pass in those days, that she fell sick, and died: and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper chamber.

Лідда ж була поблизу Іоппії, тому ученики, почувши, що Петро перебуває там, послали до нього двох чоловік просити, щоб він не забарився прийти до них.	And as Lydda was nigh unto Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent unto him, entreating him that he would not delay to come to them.

Петро, вставши, пішов з ними; і коли він прийшов, завели його у світлицю, і всі вдови із слізьми стали перед ним і показували сорочки та плаття, що їх робила Сарна, живучи з ними.	And Peter arose and went with them. And when he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.

Петро вислав усіх і, ставши на коліна, помолився, і, звернувшись до тіла, сказав: «Тавифо, встань». І вона відкрила свої очі і, побачивши Петра, сіла.	But Peter put them all forth, knelt down, and prayed; and turning to the body, he said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes; and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

Він подав їй руку, підвів її і, покликавши святих і вдовиць, поставив її перед ними живою.	And he gave her his hand, and raised her up; and calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive.

Глава 10	Chapter 10

У Кесарії був один чоловік, на ім’я Корнилій, сотник з полку, званого Італійським,	Now there was a certain man in Caesarea, Cornelius by name, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,

побожний і богобоязний, з усім домом своїм, він чинив багато милостині народові і завжди молився Богові.	a devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, who also gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always.

Близько дев’ятої години дня, у видінні, він ясно бачив ангела Божого, який увійшов до нього і сказав йому: «Корнилію!»	He saw in a vision openly, about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God coming in unto him, and saying to him, Cornelius.

Він же глянув на нього і, злякавшись, сказав: «Що, Господи?» Ангел відповів йому: «Молитви твої та милостині твої згадалися перед Богом.	And he, fastening his eyes upon him, and being affrighted, said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are gone up for a memorial before God.

Отже, пошли людей до Іоппії і поклич Симона, званого Петром.	And now send men to Joppa, and fetch Simon, who is surnamed Peter:

Він гостює в одного кожум’яки Симона, дім якого біля моря; він скаже тобі слова, якими спасешся ти і весь твій дім».	he lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the seaside.

Коли ангел, який говорив із Корнилієм, відійшов, то він, покликавши двох із своїх слуг і побожного воїна з тих, які були при ньому,	And when the angel that spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;

і, розповівши їм усе, послав їх у Іоппію.	and having rehearsed all things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.

Другого дня, коли вони йшли і наближалися до міста, Петро близько шостої години вийшов на крівлю дому помолитися,	Now on the morrow, as they were on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour:

і відчув він голод, і захотів їсти. Поки ж готували, найшов на нього жах,	and he became hungry, and desired to eat: but while they made ready, a trance fell upon him;

і бачить розкрите небо і якийсь сосуд, ніби велике полотно, прив’язане за чотири кінці, що спускається на землю і сходить до нього;	and he beholdeth the heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it were a great sheet, bound at the four corners, and let down upon the earth:

у ньому знаходились усякі земні чотириногі, і звірі, і плазуни, і птахи небесні.	wherein were all manner of four-footed beasts of the earth and wild beasts and creeping things and birds of the heaven.

І був голос до нього: «Встань, Петре, заколи та їж».	And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill and eat.

Петро ж сказав: «Hі, Господи, я ніколи не їв нічого поганого або нечистого».	But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.

Тоді вдруге був голос до нього: «Що Бог очистив, того ти не вважай нечистим».	And a voice came unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, make not thou common.

Сталося це тричi; і сосуд знову піднявся на небо.	And this was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

Коли ж Петро в собі дивувався, що б то означало видіння, яке він бачив, — ось посланці від Корнилія, розпитавши про Симонів дім, зупинилися біля воріт;	Now while Peter was much perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, then, behold, the men that were sent from Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood before the gate,

і, крикнувши, спитали: «Чи тут гостює Симон, званий Петром?»	and called and asked whether Simon, who was surnamed Peter, were lodging there.

встань, зійди та йди з ними, нітрохи не вагаючись; бо Я послав їх».	But arise, and get thee down, and go with them, nothing doubting: for I have sent them.

Петро, зійшовши до людей, присланих до нього Корнилієм, сказав: «Я — той, кого ви шукаєте; у якій справі ви прийшли?»	And Peter went down to the men, and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?

Вони ж сказали: «Корнилій-сотник, муж праведний і богобоязний, про якого добре говорить увесь народ юдейський, одержав повеління через святого ангела покликати тебе до дому свого і послухати слова твого».	And they said, Cornelius a centurion, a righteous man and one that feareth God, and well reported of by all the nation of the Jews, was warned of God by a holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words from thee.

Тоді Петро, запросивши їх, пригостив. А наступного дня, уставши, пішов з ними, і дехто з братії іоппійської пішли з ним.	So he called them in and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went forth with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa accompanied him.

Hаступого дня прийшли вони до Кесарії. Корнилій же очікував їх, скликавши своїх родичів та близьких друзів.	And on the morrow they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his kinsmen and his near friends.

Коли входив Петро, Корнилій його зустрів і поклонився, припавши до його ніг.	And when it came to pass that Peter entered, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshiped him.

Петро ж підвів його, кажучи: «Встань, я теж людина».	But Peter raised him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

І, розмовляючи з ним, увійшов у дім і знайшов багатьох, що зібралися.	And as he talked with him, he went in, and findeth many come together:

І сказав їм: «Ви знаєте, що юдеєві заборонено знатися або зближатися з іноплемінником; але Бог відкрив мені, щоб я жодного чоловіка не вважав негідним або нечистим.	and he said unto them, Ye yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to join himself or come unto one of another nation; and yet unto me hath God shown that I should not call any man common or unclean:

Тому я, коли мене покликали, прийшов, не вагаючись. Отже, питаю: для чого ви покликали мене?»	wherefore also I came without gainsaying, when I was sent for. I ask therefore with what intent ye sent for me.

Корнилій сказав: «Четвертого дня я постився аж до цієї години і о дев’ятій годині молився у своєму домі, і ось став переді мною муж у світлій одежі	And Cornelius said, Four days ago, I was fasting until this hour; and I was keeping the ninth hour of prayer in my house; and behold, a man stood before me in bright apparel,

і каже: «Корнилію! Почута молитва твоя, і милостині твої згадалися перед Богом.	and saith, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

Отже, пошли в Іоппію та поклич Симона, званого Петром; він гостює в домі кожум’яки Симона, що біля моря; він прийде і скаже тобi».	Send therefore to Joppa, and call unto thee Simon, who is surnamed Peter; he lodgeth in the house of Simon a tanner, by the seaside: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.

Зразу ж послав я до тебе, і ти добре зробив, що прийшов. Тепер ми всі стоїмо перед Богом, щоб вислухати все, що повелів тобі Бог».	Forthwith therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God, to hear all things that have been commanded thee of God.

Петро відкрив уста і сказав: «Істинно пізнаю, що Бог не дивиться на особу,	And Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

але в усякому народі той, хто боїться Його і робить по правді, угодний Йому.	but in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is acceptable to him.
36	36
Він послав синам Ізраїлевим слово, благовістячи мир через Ісуса Христа; Цей є Господь усіх.	The word which he sent unto the children of Israel, preaching good tidings of peace by Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all)—

Ви знаєте про те, що сталося по всій Юдеї, починаючи від Галилеї, після хрещення, що проповідував Іоан:	that saying ye yourselves know, which was published throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

як Бог Духом Святим і силою помазав Ісуса з Hазарета, і Він ходив, творив добро і зціляв усіх, поневолених дияволом, тому що Бог був з Hим.	even Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

І ми свідки всього, що зробив Він на землі юдейській і в Єрусалимі, і що врешті Його вбили, повісивши на дереві.	And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom also they slew, hanging him on a tree.

Його Бог воскресив на третій день, і дав Йому являтися	Him God raised up the third day, and gave him to be made manifest,

не всьому народові, а свідкам, Богом наперед обраним, нам, які їли й пили з Hим після воскресіння Його з мертвих.	not to all the people, but unto witnesses that were chosen before of God, even to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

І Він повелів нам проповідувати людям і свідчити, що Він є призначений від Бога Суддя живих і мертвих.	And he charged us to preach unto the people, and to testify that this is he who is ordained of God to be the Judge of the living and the dead.

Про Hього всі пророки свідчать, що всякий, хто вірує в Hього‚ одержить відпущення гріхів іменем Його».	To him bear all the prophets witness, that through his name everyone that believeth on him shall receive remission of sins.

Коли Петро ще продовжував цю промову, Дух Святий зійшов на всіх, хто слухав слово.	While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all them that heard the word.

І віруючі з обрізаних, які прийшли з Петром, дивувалися, що дар Святого Духа зійшов і на язичників,	And they of the circumcision that believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit.

бо чули, що вони говорять [різними] мовами і величають Бога. Тоді Петро сказав:	For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

«Хто може заборонити хреститись водою тим, що, як і ми, одержали Святого Духа?»	Can any man forbid the water, that these should not be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit as well as we?

І звелів їм хреститися в ім’я Ісуса Христа. Потім вони просили його пробути в них кілька днів.	And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
Глава 11	Chapter 11

1	1
Почули апостоли та браття, які були в Юдеї, що і язичники прийняли слово Боже.	Now the apostles and the brethren that were in Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.
2	2
І коли Петро прийшов до Єрусалима, обрізані дорікали йому,	And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,

кажучи: «Ти ходив до людей необрізаних і їв з ними».	saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

Петро ж почав переказувати їм по порядку, говорячи:	But Peter began, and expounded the matter unto them in order, saying,

«У місті Іоппії я молився, і в жахові бачив видіння: сходив якийсь сосуд, ніби велике полотно, яке чотирма кінцями спускалося з неба, і опустилось до мене.	I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, a certain vessel descending, as it were a great sheet let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even unto me:

Я подивився на нього і, розглядаючи, побачив чотириногих земних, звірів, плазунів і птахів небесних.	upon which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw the four-footed beasts of the earth and wild beasts and creeping things and birds of the heaven.

І почув я голос, який промовляв до мене: «Встань, Петре, заколи та їж».	And I heard a voice saying unto me, Rise, Peter; kill and eat.

Я ж сказав: «Hі, Господи, ніщо погане або нечисте ніколи не входило в мої уста».	But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath ever entered into my mouth.

І відповів мені вдруге голос з неба: «Що Бог очистив, того ти не вважай нечистим».	But a voice answered me the second time out of heaven, What God hath cleansed, make not thou common.

Це сталося тричі, і знову піднялося все на небо.	And this was done thrice: and all were drawn up again into heaven.

І ось у ту саму мить три чоловіки, послані з Кесарії до мене, стали перед домом, де я був.	And behold, forthwith three men stood before the house in which I was, having been sent from Caesarea unto me.

Дух сказав мені йти з ними, аніскільки не вагаючись. Пішли зі мною й ці шість братів, і ми прийшли в дім того чоловіка.	And the Spirit bade me go with them, making no distinction. And these six brethren also accompanied me; and we entered into the man’s house:

Він розповів нам, як він бачив у своєму домі ангела святого, який став і сказав йому: «Пошли до Іоппії людей і поклич Симона, званого Петром;	and he told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying unto him, Send men to Joppa, and fetch Simon, whose surname is Peter;

він скаже тобі слова, якими спасешся ти і весь дім твій».	who shall speak unto thee words, whereby thou shalt be saved, thou and all thy house.

Коли ж почав я говорити, зійшов на них Дух Святий, як і на нас спочатку.	And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning.

Згадав я тоді слово Господа, як Він сказав: «Іоан хрестив водою, а ви будете хрещені Духом Святим».	And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit.

Отже, якщо Бог дав їм такий дар, як і нам, що увірували в Господа Ісуса Христа, то хто ж я, щоб міг заборонити Богові?»	If then God gave unto them the like gift as he did also unto us, when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, then who was I, that I could withstand God?

Вислухавши це, вони заспокоїлись і прославили Бога, кажучи: «Видно, і язичникам дав Бог покаяння на життя».	And when they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then to the Gentiles also hath God granted repentance unto life.

Тим часом розсіяні через гоніння, що сталося після Стефана, пройшли до Фінікії та Кіпру і Антиохії, нікому не проповідуючи слово, крім юдеїв.	They therefore that were scattered abroad upon the tribulation that arose about Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to none save only to Jews.

Були ж деякі з них кіпряни і киринейці, які, прийшовши до Антиохії, говорили до еллінів, благовістячи Господа Ісуса.	But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecian Jews, preaching the Lord Jesus.

І рука Господня була з ними, і велике число, увірувавши, навернулося до Господа.	And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

Дійшла чутка про це до церкви Єрусалимської, і доручили Варнаві йти до Антиохії.	And the report concerning them came to the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch:

Він прийшов і, побачивши благодать Божу, зрадів і умовляв усіх триматися Господа щирим серцем;	who, when he was come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad; and he exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord:

бо він був чоловік добрий і сповнений Духа Святого і віри. І приєдналося чимало народу до Господа.	for he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

Потім Варнава пішов у Тарс шукати Савла і, знайшовши його, привів до Антиохії.	And Barnabas went forth to Tarsus to seek for Saul;

Цілий рік збиралися вони в церкві і вчили багато народу; і ученики в Антиохії вперше почали зватися християнами.	and when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that for a whole year they were gathered together with the church, and taught much people; and that the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

У ті дні прийшли з Єрусалима до Антиохії пророки.	Now in these days there came down prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.

І один з них, на ім’я Агав, уставши, провістив Духом, що по всьому світу буде великий голод, що й сталося за кесаря Клавдія.	And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be a great famine over all the world: which also came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

Тоді ученики ухвалили, щоб кожний‚ хто що мав‚ послав допомогу браттям, які живуть у Юдеї,	And the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren that dwelt in Judea:

що й зробили, пославши зібране до пресвітерів через Варнаву і Савла.	which also they did, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
Глава 12	Chapter 12

1	1
У той час цар Ірод підняв руки на декого з церкви, щоб заподіяти їм зло,	Now about that time Herod the king put forth his hands to afflict certain of the church.

і мечем убив Якова, брата Іоанового.	And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

А побачивши, що це подобається юдеям, після того взяв і Петра, — тоді були дні опрісноків, —	And when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. And those were the days of unleavened bread.

і, схопивши його, посадив у в’язницю; і наказав чотирьом четвіркам воїнів стерегти його, маючи намір після Пасхи вивести його до народу.	And when he had taken him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to guard him; intending after the Passover to bring him forth to the people.

Отже, Петра стерегли у в’язниці, а тим часом церква ревно молилася за нього Богові.	Peter therefore was kept in the prison: but earnest prayer was made of the church unto God for him.

Коли ж Ірод хотів вивести його, тієї ночі Петро спав між двома воїнами, скутий двома ланцюгами, і сторожа біля дверей стерегла в’язницю.	And when Herod was about to bring him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and guards before the door kept the prison.

І ось постав ангел Господній, і світло осяяло в’язницю, і, штовхнувши в бік Петра, він розбудив його і сказав: «Встань швидше». І впали ланцюги з його рук.	And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shined in the cell: and he smote Peter on the side, and awoke him, saying, Rise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

І сказав йому ангел: «Підпережись і взуйся». Він зробив так. Потім говорить йому: «Вдягни одяг твій та йди за мною».	And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And he did so. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

Петро вийшов і попрямував за ним, не знаючи, що роблене ангелом було в дійсності, а думав, що бачить видіння.	And he went out, and followed him; and he knew not that it was true which was done by the angel, but thought he saw a vision.

Пройшовши першу і другу сторожу, вони прийшли до залізної брами, що вела до міста, яка сама собою відчинилася їм: вони вийшли і пройшли одну вулицю, і раптом ангела не стало з ним.	And when they were past the first and the second guard, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth into the city; which opened to them of its own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and straightaway the angel departed from him.

Тоді Петро, опам’ятавшись, сказав: «Тепер я бачу воістину, що Господь послав ангела Свого і звільнив мене від руки Іродової та від усього, чого чекав народ юдейський».	And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a truth, that the Lord hath sent forth his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

І, роздивившись, прийшов до дому Марії, матері Іоана, званого Марком, де багато людей зібралися і молилися.	And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together and were praying.

Коли ж Петро постукав біля воріт, то вийшла послухати служниця на ім’я Рода	And when Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a maid came to answer, named Rhoda.

і, впізнавши голос Петра, з радости не відчинила воріт, а, вбігши, сказала, що Петро стоїть біля воріт.	And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for joy, but ran in, and told that Peter stood before the gate.

А ті казали їй: «Чи при своєму ти розумі?» Але вона твердила, що так і є. Вони ж говорили: «Це ангел його».	And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she confidently affirmed that it was even so. And they said, It is his angel.

А Петро і далі стукав. Коли ж відчинили, то побачили його і вжахнулися.	But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened, they saw him, and were amazed.

Він же, давши знак рукою, щоб мовчали, розповів їм, як Господь вивів його з в’язниці, і сказав: «Сповістіть про це Якова і братію». Потім, вийшовши, пішов у інше місце.	But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him forth out of the prison. And he said, Tell these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went to another place.

Коли настав день, між воїнами зчинилася велика тривога: що сталося з Петром.	Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.

Ірод же, пошукавши його і не знайшовши, судив сторожів і звелів стратити їх. Потім він відбув з Юдеї до Кесарії і там залишався.	And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the guards, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judea to Caesarea, and tarried there.

Ірод був розгніваний на тирян і сидонян; вони ж, змовившись, прийшли до нього і, схиливши на свій бік Власта, постельника царського, просили миру, бо їхня країна живилася від його царства.	Now Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: and they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, they asked for peace, because their country was fed from the king’s country.

Призначеного дня Ірод, одягнувшись у царський одяг, сів на підвищенні і говорив до них;	And upon a set day Herod arrayed himself in royal apparel, and sat on the throne, and made an oration unto them.

а народ вигукував: «Це голос Бога, а не людини».	And the people shouted, saying, The voice of a god, and not of a man.

Та раптом ангел Господній уразив його за те, що він не віддав слави Боговi; і, з’їдений червою, помер.	And immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not glory to God: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

Слово ж Боже росло і поширювалось.	But the word of God grew and multiplied.

А Варнава та Савл, виконавши доручення, повернулися з Єрусалима до Антиохії, взявши з собою Іоана, прозваного Марком.	And Barnabas and Saul returned to Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministration, taking also with them John whose surname was Mark.
Глава 13	Chapter 13

1	1
В Антиохійській церкві були деякі пророки і вчителі: Варнава і Симеон, що звався Hігер, і Луцій киринеянин, і Манаїл, вихований з Іродом четвертовладником, і Савл.	Now there were at Antioch, in the church that was there, certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen the foster-brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

Коли вони служили Господеві й постили, Дух Святий сказав: «Відділіть Мені Варнаву та Савла для діла, на яке Я покликав їх».	And as they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

Тоді вони, попостившись і помолившись та поклавши руки на них, відпустили їх.	Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

Вони, послані Духом Святим, прийшли до Селевкії, а звідтіль відпливли до Кіпру;	So they, being sent forth by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

і, бувши в Саламіні, проповідували слово Боже в юдейських синагогах; мали ж вони й Іоана для служіння.	And when they were at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John as their attendant.

Пройшовши весь острів до Пафа, знайшли вони одного волхва, лжепророка, юдеянина на ім’я Варіісус,	And when they had gone through the island unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-Jesus;

який був із проконсулом Сергієм Павлом, чоловіком розумним. Він, покликавши Варнаву та Савла, побажав почути слово Боже.	who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding. The same called unto him Barnabas and Saul, and sought to hear the word of God.

А Еліма-волхв [бо те означає ім’я його] противився їм, намагаючись відвернути проконсула від віри.	But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn aside the proconsul from the faith.

Але Савл, він же й Павло, сповнившись Духа Святого і глянувши на нього,	But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, and fastening his eyes on him,

сказав: «О, сповнений всякого лукавства і всякого лиходійства, сину дияволів, ворог усякої правди! Чи перестанеш ти збивати з прямих путей Господніх?	said, O full of all guile and all villainy, thou son of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

І нині ось рука Господня на тобі: ти будеш сліпий і не побачиш сонця до часу». І раптом обійняла його темрява й пітьма, і він ходив навпомацки, шукаючи поводиря.	And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

Тоді проконсул, побачивши, що сталося, увірував, дивуючись ученню Господньому.	Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

Відпливши з Пафа, Павло та ті, що були з ним, прибули до Пергії, у Памфілії. А Іоан, відлучившись від них, повернувся до Єрусалима.	Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos, and came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem.

Вони ж, проходячи від Пергії, прибули до Антиохії пісидійської і, увійшовши в синагогу суботнього дня, сіли.	But they, passing through from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia; and they went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.

Після читання Закону і Пророків начальники синагоги послали сказати їм: «Мужі-браття! Якщо у вас є слово повчання до народу, говоріть».	And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Brethren, if ye have a word of exhortation for the people, say on.

Павло, підвівшись, дав знак рукою і сказав: «Мужі ізраїльтяни і ті‚ що бояться Бога, вислухайте!	And Paul stood up, and beckoning with the hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, hearken:

Бог народу цього обрав батьків наших і підніс цей народ під час перебування у землі єгипетській, і силою великою вивів їх із неї,	The God of this people chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they sojourned in the land of Egypt, and with a high arm led he them forth out of it.

і близько сорока років годував їх у пустелі.	And for about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.
19	19
І, знищивши сім народів у землі Ханаанській, розділив їм у спадщину їхню землю.	And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land for an inheritance.
20	20
І після цього, близько чотирьохсот п’ятдесяти років, давав їм суддів до пророка Самуїла.	And after these things he gave them judges for about four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.
21	21
Потім просили вони царя, і Бог дав їм Саула, сина Кісового, мужа з коліна Веніамінового. Так минуло років сорок.	And afterward they asked for a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for the space of forty years.

Усунувши його, настановив їм царем Давида, про якого і сказав, засвідчивши: «Знайшов Я мужа по серцю Моєму, Давида, сина Єссея, який здійснить усі бажання Мої».	And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king; to whom also he bare witness and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who shall do all my will.

З його роду Бог за обітницею підніс Ісуса — Спасителя Ізраїлеві.	Of this man’s seed hath God according to promise brought unto Israel salvation;

Перед самим пришестям Його Іоан проповідував хрещення всьому народові ізраїльському.	when John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to Israel.

Закінчуючи ж путь свою, Іоан говорив: «За кого ви мене вважаєте? Я не Той; але ось іде за мною, у Якого я недостойний розв’язати взуття на ногах.	And as John was fulfilling his course, he said, Whom suppose ye that I am? I am not he. But behold, there cometh one after me the shoes of whose feet I am not worthy to unloose.

Мужі-браття, сини роду Авраамового і всі між вами, хто боїться Бога! Вам послано слово спасіння цього.	Brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you that fear God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.

Бо жителі Єрусалима і начальники їхні, не визнавши Його і осудивши, сповнили слова пророчі, що читаються кожної суботи,	For they that dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.

і, не знайшовши в Hьому ніякої провини, вартої смерти, просили Пилата вбити Його.	And though they found no cause of death in him, yet asked they of Pilate that he should be slain.

Коли ж сповнилось усе, написане про Hього, то, знявши з дерева, поклали Його до гробу.	And when they had fulfilled all things that were written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a tomb.

А Бог воскресив Його з мертвих.	But God raised him from the dead:

Він багато днів являвся тим, які вийшли з Hим із Галилеї до Єрусалима і які нині є свідками Його перед народом.	and he was seen for many days of them that came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.

І ми благовістимо вам, що обітницю, дану батькам, Бог виконав нам, дітям їхнім, воскресивши Ісуса,	And we bring you good tidings of the promise made unto the fathers, that God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he raised up Jesus;

як і в другому псалмі написано: «Ти Син Мій: Я нині родив Тебе».	as also it is written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

А що воскресив Його з мертвих, так що Він уже не обернеться в тління, про це сказав так: «Я дам вам милості, обіцяні Давидові, вірно».	And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he hath spoken on this wise, I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.

Тому й в іншому місці говорить: «Hе даси Святому Твоєму побачити тління».	Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou wilt not give thy Holy One to see corruption.

Давид, послуживши у свій час Божій волі, упокоївся, і приєднався до своїх отців, і побачив тління;	For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

а Той, Котрого Бог воскресив, не побачив тління.	but he whom God raised up saw no corruption.
38	38
Отже, нехай буде відомо вам, мужі-браття, що заради Hього вам сповіщається відпущення гріхів;	Be it known unto you therefore, brethren, that through this man is proclaimed unto you remission of sins:
39	39
і в усьому, в чому ви не могли виправдатися законом Мойсеєвим, виправдовується Hим всякий віруючий.	and by him everyone that believeth is justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
40	40
Стережіться ж, щоб не прийшло на вас сказане у пророків:	Beware therefore, lest that come upon you which is spoken in the prophets:

«Дивіться, недбайливі, подивуйтесь і зникніть; бо Я творю діло в дні ваші, діло, якому не повірили б ви, коли б хто розповів вам».	Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish; For I work a work in your days, Which ye shall in no wise believe, if one declare it unto you.

Як вони виходили з юдейської синагоги, язичники просили їх говорити про те саме й у наступну суботу.	And as they went out of the synagogue of the Jews, the Gentiles besought that these words might be spoken to them the next sabbath.

Коли ж присутні розходились, то багато юдеїв і шанувальників Бога, навернених з язичників, пішли слідом за Павлом і Варнавою, які, бесідуючи з ними, умовляли їх перебувати у благодаті Божій.	Now when the synagogue broke up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.

Hаступної суботи мало не все місто зібралося слухати слово Боже.	And the next sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God.

Але юдеї, побачивши народ, сповнилися заздрощів і, сперечаючись та лихословлячи, суперечили тому, що говорив Павло.	But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were said by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.

Тоді Павло та Варнава з дерзновенням сказали: «Вам першим належало проповідувати слово Боже, а через те, що ви відкидаєте його й самих себе робите недостойними вічного життя, то ми звертаємось до язичників.	And Paul and Barnabas spake out boldly, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first be spoken to you. But seeing ye thrust it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

Бо так заповів нам Господь: «Я поставив Тебе світлом язичникам, щоб Ти був на спасіння аж до краю землi».	For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee for a light of the Gentiles, That thou shouldest be for salvation unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Слухаючи це, язичники раділи і прославляли слово Господнє, і увірували всі, які були наперед визначені до вічного життя.	And as the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

І слово Господнє поширилося по всій країні.	And the word of the Lord was spread abroad throughout all the region.

Але юдеї намовили побожних та почесних жінок і перших у місті людей, і вчинили гоніння на Павла та Варнаву, і вигнали їх за свої межі.	But the Jews urged on the women that were devout, and the women of honorable estate, and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and cast them out of their borders.

Вони ж, обтрусивши на них порох з ніг своїх, пішли до Іконії.	But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.

А ученики сповнювались радости й Духа Святого.	And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
Глава 14	Chapter 14

1	1
В Іконії вони увійшли разом у юдейську синагогу і говорили так, що увірувало дуже багато юдеїв і еллінів.	And it came to pass in Iconium that they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake that a great multitude both of Jews and of Greeks believed.
2	2
А невіруючі юдеї розпалили і розлютили проти братії серця язичників.	But the Jews that were disobedient stirred up the souls of the Gentiles, and made them evil affected against the brethren.
3	3
Проте вони пробули тут досить часу, сміливо проповідуючи Господа, Який на свідчення слова благодаті Своєї творив їх руками знамення і чудеса.	Long time therefore they tarried there speaking boldly in the Lord, who bare witness unto the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

Тим часом народ у місті розділився: одні були на боці юдеїв, а інші — на боці апостолів.	But the multitude of the city was divided; and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.
5	5
Коли ж язичники та юдеї зі своїми начальниками кинулися на них, щоб осоромити і побити їх камінням,	And when there was made an onset both of the Gentiles and of the Jews with their rulers, to treat them shamefully and to stone them,
6	6
вони, довідавшись про це, відійшли в лікаонські міста Лістру та Дервію і околиці їх	they became aware of it, and fled unto the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and the region round about:

і там благовістили.	and there they preached the gospel.

У Лістрі сидів один чоловік, слабий на ноги, кривий від утроби матері своєї, і ніколи не ходив.	And at Lystra there sat a certain man, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked.

Він слухав, що говорив Павло, який, поглянувши на нього і побачивши, що він має віру для одержання зцілення,	The same heard Paul speaking: who, fastening his eyes upon him, and seeing that he had faith to be made whole,
10	10
сказав гучним голосом: «Тобі говорю в ім’я Господа Ісуса Христа: стань прямо на ноги твої». І він відразу скочив і почав ходити.	said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped up and walked.
11	11
Hарод же, побачивши, що зробив Павло, підніс голос свій, говорячи по-лікаонськи: «Боги в образі людському зійшли до нас».	And when the multitude saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.
12	12
І назвали Варнаву Зевсом, а Павла — Єрмієм, бо він передував у слові.	And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercury, because he was the chief speaker.
13	13
А жрець ідола Зевса, що знаходився перед їхнім містом, пригнавши до воріт волів і принісши вінки, хотів разом із народом принести жертву.	Then the priest of Jupiter whose temple was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the multitudes.

Почувши це, апостоли Варнава та Павло роздерли одяг свій, кинулися між народ і гучно говорили:	But when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it, they rent their garments, and sprang in among the multitude, crying out

«Мужі! Що це ви робите? І ми такі самі люди, як і ви, і благовістимо вам, щоб ви навернулися від цих неправдивих до Бога Живого, Який створив небо і землю, і море, і все, що в них;	and saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and bring you good tidings, that ye should turn from these vain things unto the living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that in them is:

Який у минулих поколіннях попустив, щоб усі народи ходили своїми шляхами,	who in the generations gone by suffered all the nations to walk in their own ways.
17	17
хоч і не переставав свідчити про Себе благодіянням, подаючи нам з неба дощі і часи плодоносні та сповнюючи поживою і веселістю серця нашi».	And yet he left not himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you from heaven rains and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

І, говорячи це, вони ледве переконали народ не приносити їм жертви і йти кожному додому.	And with these sayings scarce restrained they the multitudes from doing sacrifice unto them.
19	19
Тим часом як вони, залишившись там, учили, з Антиохії та Іконії прийшли деякі юдеї і, коли апостоли сміливо проповідували, переконали народ відійти від них, кажучи: «Вони не говорять нічого істинного, а все обманюють». І, підбуривши народ, побили Павла камінням і витягли за місто, вважаючи його мертвим.	But there came Jews thither from Antioch and Iconium: and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul, and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead.

Коли ж ученики зібрались біля нього, він устав і пішов до міста.	But as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and entered into the city: and on the morrow he went forth with Barnabas to Derbe.

А другого дня пішов із Варнавою до Дервії. Проповідавши Євангеліє цьому місту і навчивши багатьох, вони повернулися до Лістри, Іконії та Антиохії,	And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, and Iconium, and Antioch,

зміцнюючи душі учеників, благаючи перебувати у вірі і навчаючи, що багатьма скорботами належить нам увійти в Царство Боже.	confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God.

Рукоположивши ж їм пресвітерів для кожної церкви, вони помолилися з постом і передали їх Господеві, в Якого [ті] увірували.	And when they had appointed for them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they had believed.

І, перейшовши Пісидію, прийшли до Памфилії,	And they passed through Pisidia, and came to Pamphylia.
25	25
і, проповідавши слово Господнє в Пергії, прийшли до Атталії;	And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia;

а звідтіль відпливли до Антиохії, звідки були передані благодаті Божій на діло, яке й виконали.	and thence they sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been committed to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled.

Прибувши туди і зібравши церкву, вони розказали все, що зробив Бог з ними і як Він відкрив двері віри язичникам.	And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all things that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith unto the Gentiles.

І перебували там з учениками чимало часу.	And they tarried there no little time with the disciples.
Глава 15	Chapter 15

1	1
Деякі, прийшовши з Юдеї, учили братів: «Якщо не обріжетесь за обрядом Мойсеєвим, не можете спастися».	And certain men came down from Judea and taught the brethren, saying, Except ye be circumcised after the custom of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

Коли ж виникла незгода і чимале змагання Павла та Варнави з ними, то постановили, щоб Павло і Варнава і дехто інший з них пішли в цій справі до апостолів і пресвітерів у Єрусалим.	When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and questioning with them, the brethren appointed that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.

Отже, послані церквою, вони проходили через Фінікію та Самарію, розповідаючи про навернення язичників, і творили велику радість усім браттям.	They therefore, being brought on their way by the church, passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.

Прийшовши до Єрусалима, вони були прийняті церквою, апостолами і пресвітерами і сповістили про все, що Бог учинив з ними і як відкрив двері віри язичникам.	And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church and the apostles and the elders, and they rehearsed all things that God had done with them.

Тоді встали деякі з фарисейської єресі, які увірували, і говорили, що треба обрізувати язичників та заповісти їм додержувати закон Мойсеїв.	But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees who believed, saying, It is needful to circumcise them, and to charge them to keep the law of Moses.

Апостоли й пресвітери зібралися для розгляду цієї справи.	And the apostles and the elders were gathered together to consider of this matter.

Після тривалого обговорення Петро встав і сказав їм: «Мужі-браття! Ви знаєте, що Бог із перших днів обрав з-поміж нас мене, щоб із моїх уст язичники почули слово Євангелія і увірували;	And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Brethren, ye know that a good while ago God made choice among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

і Серцезнавець Бог засвідчив їм, давши їм Духа Святого, як і нам;	And God, who knoweth the heart, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Spirit, even as he did unto us;

і не поклав ніякої різниці між нами і ними, вірою очистивши серця їхні.	and he made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith.
10	10
Що ж ви нині спокушаєте Бога, бажаючи покласти на шию учеників ярмо, яке ні батьки наші, ні ми не могли понести?	Now therefore why make ye trial of God, that ye should put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
11	11
Але ми віруємо, що благодаттю Господа Ісуса Христа спасемось, як і вони».	But we believe that we shall be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in like manner as they.

Тоді замовкли всі, що зібралися, і слухали Варнаву і Павла, які розповідали про знамення й чудеса, створені Богом через них серед язичників.	And all the multitude kept silence; and they hearkened unto Barnabas and Paul rehearsing what signs and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles through them.

Коли ж вони замовкли, почав говорити Яків і сказав: «Мужі-браття! Послухайте мене.	And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Brethren, hearken unto me:

Симон розповів, як Бог спершу зглянувся на язичників, щоб зібрати з них народ в ім’я Своє.	Simeon hath rehearsed how first God visited the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.
15	15
І з цим згідні слова пророків, як написано:	And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,

«Потім повернуся і відбудую скинію Давидову, що впала, і те, що в ній зруйноване, відновлю і виправлю її,	After these things I will return, And I will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen; And I will build again the ruins thereof, And I will set it up:

щоб шукали Господа інші люди і всі народи, серед яких звіститься ім’я Моє», — говорить Господь, Який творить усе це.	That the residue of men may seek after the Lord, And all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, Saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

Відомі Богові споконвіку всі діла його.	Known unto God from of old are all his works.
19	19
Тому, я гадаю, не треба перешкоджати язичникам, які навертаються до Бога,	Wherefore my judgment is, that we trouble not them that from among the Gentiles turn to God;
20	20
а написати їм, щоб вони утримувалися від оскверненого ідолами, від блуду, задушенини і крови і щоб не робили іншим того, чого не бажають собі.	but that we write unto them, that they abstain from the pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from what is strangled, and from blood.
21	21
Бо закон Мойсеїв з давніх родів має по всіх містах тих, які проповідують його‚ і читається в синагогах кожної суботи».	For Moses from generations of old hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath.

Тоді апостоли і пресвітери з усією церквою розсудили, обравши з свого середовища мужів, послати їх до Антиохії з Павлом і Варнавою, а саме: Іуду, прозваного Варсавою, та Силу, мужів, які начальствували між браттями,	Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men out of their company, and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas who was surnamed Barsabbas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren:

чоловіками, які віддали душі свої за Ім’я Господа нашого Ісуса Христа.	men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Отже, ми послали Юду та Силу, котрі пояснять вам те саме і словами.	We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who themselves also shall tell you the same things by word of mouth.

Бо вгодно Святому Духові і нам не покладати на вас більше ніякого тягаря, крім цього необхідного:	For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things:

утримуватися від ідоложертовного, і крови, і задушенини, і блуду і не робити іншим того, чого собі не бажаєте. Дотримуючись цього, добре зробите. Будьте здорові!»	that ye abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what is strangled, and from fornication; from which if ye keep yourselves, it shall be well with you. Fare ye well.

Отже, посланці прийшли до Антиохії і, зібравши людей, вручили послання.	So they, when they were dismissed, came to Antioch; and having gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle.

Вони ж, прочитавши, зраділи цьому повчанню.	And when they had read it, they rejoiced for the consolation.

Іуда і Сила, будучи самі пророками, щедрими словами наставляли братію і утвердили її.	And Judas and Silas, being themselves also prophets, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

Пробувши там якийсь час, вони з миром були відпущені браттями до апостолів.	And after they had spent some time there, they were dismissed in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.

Але Силі захотілося зостатися там (а Іуда повернувся до Єрусалима).

Павло ж і Варнава жили в Антиохії, навчаючи і благовістячи разом з багатьма іншими слово Господнє.	But Paul and Barnabas tarried in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.

Через деякий час Павло сказав Варнаві: «Ходімо знов і відвідаємо братів наших по всіх містах, де ми проповідували слово Господнє, як вони живуть».	And after some days Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us return now and visit our brethren in every city wherein we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they fare.

Варнава ж захотів узяти з собою Іоана, званого Марком,	And Barnabas was minded to take with them John, who was called Mark.

але Павло вважав, що не слід брати з собою того, хто відстав від них у Памфилії і не пішов з ними на діло, на яке вони були послані.	But Paul thought not good to take with them him who withdrew from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.

Це призвело до незгоди, так що вони розлучилися один з одним; і Варнава, взявши Марка, відплив до Кіпру;	There arose therefore a sharp contention, so that they parted asunder one from the other, and Barnabas took Mark with him, and sailed away unto Cyprus:

Глава 16	Chapter 16

Дійшов він до Дервії і Лістри. І ось був там один ученик на ім’я Тимофій, у якого мати була юдеянка, що увірувала, а батько — еллін,	And he came to Derbe and Lystra: and behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a certain Jewess that believed; but his father was a Greek.

і про якого свідчили браття, що перебували в Лістрі та Іконії.	The same was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.

Павло захотів узяти його з собою; і взявши, обрізав його заради юдеїв, що були в тих місцях; бо всі знали про батька його, що він був еллін.	Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and he took and circumcised him because of the Jews that were in those parts: for they all knew that his father was a Greek.

Проходячи ж по містах, вони передавали вірним дотримуватися постанов, схвалених апостолами і пресвітерами в Єрусалимі.	And as they went on their way through the cities, they delivered them the decrees to keep which had been ordained of the apostles and the elders that were at Jerusalem.

І церкви утверджувалися вірою і повсякденно зростали кількісно.	So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.

Коли ж вони пройшли Фригію та Галатійську країну, заборонив їм Святий Дух проповідувати слово в Асії.	Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, having been forbidden of the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia,

Дійшовши до Місії, вони поривалися йти у Вифинію; але Дух не допустив їх.	and were come over against Mysia, they assayed to go on toward Bithynia; and the Spirit suffered them not;

Перейшовши ж Місію, вони зійшли в Троаду.	and passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas.

І було Павлові вночі видіння: один муж, македонянин, стояв і благав його, кажучи: «Прийди до Македонії і допоможи нам».	And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: There was a man of Macedonia standing, beseeching him, and saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.

Після цього видіння зараз же ми вирішили йти до Македонії, зрозумівши, що нас покликав Господь благовістити там.	And when he had seen the vision, straightaway we sought to go forth into Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel unto them.

Отже, вирушивши з Троади, ми прибули до Самофракії, а другого дня до Hеаполя,	Setting sail therefore from Troas, we made a straight course to Samothrace, and the day following to Neapolis;

звідти ж у Филипи; це перше місто в тій частині Македонії, колонія. У тому місті ми пробули кілька днів.	and from thence to Philippi, which is a leading city of that district of Macedonia, a Roman colony: and we were in this city tarrying certain days.

А суботнього дня ми вийшли за місто до річки, де, за звичаєм, було місце молитви, і, сівши, розмовляли з жінками, які посходились.	And on the sabbath day we went forth without the city by a riverside, where was wont to be prayer; and we sat down, and spake unto the women that were come together.

І слухала одна жінка на ймення Лідія, з міста Фіатір, що торгувала багряницею, яка шанувала Бога; і Господь відкрив їй серце слухати уважно те, про що говорив Павло.	And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, one that worshiped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened to give heed unto the things which were spoken by Paul.

Коли ж вона та її домашні охрестились, то благала нас, кажучи: «Якщо ви визнали мене вірною Господу, то увійдіть у мій дім і живіть у мене»; і переконала нас.	And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

Сталося ж, як ішли ми на молитву, зустріла нас одна служниця, яка мала духа віщування і яка віщуванням давала великий прибуток своїм господарям.	And it came to pass, as we were going to prayer, that a certain maid having a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much gain by soothsaying.

Йдучи за Павлом і за нами, вона кричала, кажучи: «Ці чоловіки — раби Бога Всевишнього, які звіщають нам путь спасіння».	The same following after Paul and us cried out, saying, These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim unto us the way of salvation.

Це вона робила багато днів. Павло, розгнівавшись, обернувся і сказав духові: «Повеліваю тобі ім’ям Ісуса Христа вийти з неї». І дух вийшов відразу.	And this she did for many days. But Paul, being sore troubled, turned and said to the spirit, I charge thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And it came out that very hour.

Господарі ж її, побачивши, що втратили надію на їхній прибуток, схопили Павла й Силу і потягли на площу до начальників.	But when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they laid hold on Paul and Silas, and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers,

І, привівши їх до воєвод, сказали: «Ці люди, будучи юдеями, збурюють наше місто	and when they had brought them unto the magistrates, they said, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,

і проповідують звичаї, яких нам, римлянам, не личить ні приймати, ні виконувати».	and set forth customs which it is not lawful for us to receive, or to observe, being Romans.

Hарод також піднявся на них, а воєводи, зірвавши з них одяг, звеліли бити їх палицями	And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent their garments off them, and commanded to beat them with rods.

і, нанісши їм багато ударів, вкинули у в’язницю, наказавши в’язничному сторожеві пильно стерегти їх.	And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely:

Одержавши такий наказ, він вкинув їх у внутрішню в’язницю і ноги їхні забив у колоду.	who, having received such a charge, cast them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

Близько опівночі Павло і Сила, молячись, прославляли Бога; в’язні ж слухали їх.	But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns unto God, and the prisoners were listening to them;

Раптом стався великий землетрус, так що захиталася основа в’язницi; і враз відчинились усі двері, і кайдани на всіх послабли.	and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison house were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened; and everyone’s bands were loosed.

В’язничний сторож, прокинувшись і побачивши, що двері в’язниці відчинені, вихопив меч і хотів накласти на себе руки, думаючи, що в’язні втекли.	And the jailer, being roused out of sleep and seeing the prison doors open, drew a sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.

Але Павло вигукнув голосно: «Hе роби собі ніякого зла, бо всі ми тут».	But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

Він же, зажадавши світла, вбіг до в’язницi; і припав у тремтінні до Павла і Сили,	And he called for lights and sprang in, and, trembling for fear, fell down before Paul and Silas,

і, вивівши їх геть, сказав: «Господарі мої, що мені робити, щоб спастися?»	and brought them out and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31	31
Вони ж сказали: «Віруй у Господа Ісуса Христа і спасешся ти і весь дім твій».	And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house.

І проповідали слово Господнє йому і всім, хто був у домі його.	And they spake the word of the Lord unto him, and to all that were in his house.

І, взявши їх тієї ж години ночі, він обмив їхні рани і негайно охрестився сам і всі домашні його.	And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, immediately.

І, привівши їх у свій дім, запропонував трапезу і радів з усім домом своїм, що увірував у Бога.	And he brought them up into his house, and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, with all his house, having believed in God.

Коли ж настав день, воєводи послали міських служителів сказати: «Відпусти людей тих».	But when it was day, the magistrates sent the sergeants, saying, Let those men go.

В’язничний сторож сказав про це Павлові: «Воєводи прислали, щоб відпустити вас; отже, вийдіть тепер і йдіть з миром».	And the jailer reported these words to Paul, saying, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore come forth, and go in peace.

Але Павло відказав їм: «Hас, римських громадян, без суду прилюдно били, кинули у в’язницю, а тепер тайкома випускають? Hі, нехай прийдуть і самі виведуть нас».	But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men that are Romans, and have cast us into prison; and do they now cast us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and bring us out.

Міські служителі сказали ці слова воєводам, і ті злякались, почувши, що це римські громадяни.	And the sergeants reported these words unto the magistrates: and they feared when they heard that they were Romans;

І, прийшовши, вибачились перед ними, і, вивівши, просили йти собі з міста.	and they came and besought them; and when they had brought them out, they asked them to depart from the city.

Вони ж, вийшовши з в’язниці, прийшли до Лідії і, побачивши братів, повчали їх, і пішли.	And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.
Глава 17	Chapter 17

Пройшовши через Амфіполь і Аполлонію, (вони) прийшли до Фессалоніки, де була юдейська синагога.	Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:

Павло, за своїм звичаєм, пішов до них і три суботи говорив з ними з Писання,	and Paul, as his custom was, went in unto them, and for three sabbath days reasoned with them from the scriptures,

відкриваючи та доводячи їм, що «Христу належало постраждати і воскреснути з мертвих, і що цей Христос є Ісус, Якого я проповідую вам».	opening and alleging that it behooved the Christ to suffer, and to rise again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom, said he, I proclaim unto you, is the Christ.

І деякі з них увірували і приєдналися до Павла та Сили, як з еллінів, що визнають Бога, дуже багато, так і зі знатних жінок чимало.	And some of them were persuaded, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

Але юдеї, які не увірували, запалившись заздрістю і взявши з майдану деяких негідних людей, зібралися натовпом і збурювали місто і, приступивши до дому Ясонового, намагалися вивести їх до народу.	But the Jews that were disobedient took unto them certain vile fellows of the rabble, and gathering a crowd, set the city on an uproar; and assaulting the house of Jason, they sought to bring them to the people.

Hе знайшовши ж їх, потягли Ясона і деяких братів до міських начальників з криком, що ці всесвітні підбурювачі прийшли сюди,	And when they found them not, they dragged Jason and certain brethren before the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

а Ясон прийняв їх; і всі вони діють проти повелінь кесаря, визнаючи іншого царем — Ісуса.	whom Jason hath received: and these all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

І стривожили народ та міських начальників, що слухали їх.	And they troubled the multitude and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.

Але ті, одержавши від Ясона та інших запоруку, відпустили їх.	And when they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.

Hегайно вночі браття відправили Павла та Силу до Верії, прибувши до якої, вони пішли до синагоги юдейської.	And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who when they were come thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

Тутешні були добродушніші, ніж жителі Фессалоніки: вони прийняли слово з усією ревністю, щоденно розбираючи Писання, чи точно це так.	Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, examining the scriptures daily, whether these things were so.

І багато з них увірувало, та з еллінських почесних жінок і чоловіків чимало.	Many of them therefore believed; also of the Greek women of honorable estate, and of men, not a few.

Але коли фессалонікійські юдеї довідалися, що і у Верії проповідано Павлом слово Боже, то прийшли і туди, збуджуючи та підбурюючи народ.	But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was proclaimed of Paul at Berea also, they came thither likewise, stirring up the multitudes.

Тоді браття зараз же відпустили Павла, який ішов немовби до моря; а Сила і Тимофій зосталися там.	And then immediately the brethren sent forth Paul to go as it were to the sea: but both Silas and Timothy abode there still.

Ті, що супроводжували Павла, провели його до Афін і, одержавши наказ щодо Сили й Тимофія, щоб вони швидше прийшли до нього, відбули.	But they that conducted Paul brought him as far as Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timothy that they should come to him with all speed, they departed.

Чекаючи їх в Афінах, Павло збурився духом, бачачи це місто‚ повне ідолів.	Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he beheld the city full of idols.

Тож він говорив у синагозі з юдеями і тими, які шанують Бога, і кого він зустрічав щоденно на майдані.	So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with them that met him.

Деякі з епікурейських філософів та стоїків почали сперечатися з ним; одні говорили: «Що хоче сказати цей марнослівець?» А інші: «Здається, він проповідує про чужі божества», бо він благовістив їм про Ісуса і воскресіння.	And certain also of the Epicurean and the Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, What would this babbler say? others, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached Jesus and the resurrection.

І, взявши його, привели до ареопагу і говорили: «Чи можемо ми знати, що це за нове вчення, що ти його проповідуєш?	And they took hold of him, and brought him unto the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new teaching is, which is spoken by thee?

Бо щось дивовижне ти вкладаєш у вуха наші. Тому хочемо знати, що це таке?»	For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things might mean.

Усі ж афіняни та чужоземці, які жили серед них, ні в чому так охоче не проводили час, як у тому, щоб говорити або слухати про щось нове.	(Now all the Athenians and the strangers sojourning there spent their time in nothing else, but to tell and to hear something new.)

Павло, ставши серед ареопагу, сказав: «Афіняни! З усього бачу я, що ви начебто особливо побожні.	And Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus, and said, Ye men of Athens, in all things I perceive that ye are very religious.

Бо, проходячи і оглядаючи ваші святині, я знайшов і жертовник, на якому написано: «Незнаному Боговi». Саме Цього, Якого ви, не знаючи, шануєте, я і проповідую вам.	For as I passed along, and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription, TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye worship in ignorance, him I set forth unto you.

Бог‚ що створив світ і все, що в ньому, Він‚ будучи Господом неба і землі, не в рукотворних храмах живе	The God that made the world and all things therein, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

і не вимагає служіння людських рук, ніби в чомусь мав би потребу, Сам даючи усьому життя і дихання‚ і все.	neither is he served by men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself giveth to all life and breath in all things;

Від однієї крови створив увесь рід людський для проживання по всій землі, наперед визначивши часи і межі їх перебування,	and he made of one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed seasons, and the bounds of their habitation;

щоб вони шукали Бога, чи не відчують Його і чи не знайдуть, хоч Він і недалеко від кожного з нас:	that they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us:

бо ми Hим живемо‚ і рухаємось‚ і існуємо, як і деякі з ваших віршотворців говорили: «Ми Його і рід».	for in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain even of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

Отже, будучи родом Божим, ми не повинні думати, що Божество подібне до золота, або срібла, або каменя, що приймає образ через мистецтво та домисел людський.	Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and device of man.

Залишаючи часи невідання, Бог нині повеліває всім людям усюди покаятися;	The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he commandeth all men everywhere to repent:

бо Він визначив день, у який праведно судитиме весь світ, через наперед настановленого Hим Мужа, подавши свідчення всім через воскресіння Його з мертвих».	because he hath appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

Почувши про воскресіння мертвих, одні глузували, а інші говорили: «Про це послухаємо тебе іншим часом».	Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; but others said, We will hear thee again concerning this.

Глава 18	Chapter 18

Після цього Павло, залишивши Афіни, прийшов до Коринфа;	And after these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth.

і, знайшовши одного юдея, на ім’я Акила, родом із Понту, який недавно прийшов з Італії, і Прискіллу, жінку його, — бо Клавдій звелів усім юдеям покинути Рим, — прийшов до них;	And he found a certain Jew named Aquila, a man of Pontus by race, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to depart from Rome: and he came unto them;

і, за однорідністю ремесла, залишився у них і працював; бо їхнім ремеслом було робити намети.	and because he was of the same trade, he abode with them, and wrought; for by their trade they were tentmakers.

Кожної суботи він говорив у синагозі і переконував юдеїв та еллінів.	And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded Jews and Greeks.

А коли прийшли з Македонії Сила і Тимофій, то Павло, ідучи за велінням Духа, свідчив юдеям, що Ісус є Христос.	But when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was constrained by the Spirit, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.

Але оскільки вони противились і злословили, то він, обтрусивши одяг свій, сказав до них: «Кров ваша на головах ваших; я — чистий, віднині йду до язичників».	And when they opposed themselves and blasphemed, he shook out his raiment and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.

І пішов звідти, і прийшов до одного на ім’я Юст, який шанував Бога; дім його був біля синагоги.	And he departed thence, and went into the house of a certain man named Justus, one that worshiped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.

А Крисп, начальник синагоги, увірував у Господа разом з усім домом своїм, і багато з коринф’ян, слухаючи, увірували і охрестилися.	And Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

У видінні вночі Господь сказав Павлові: «Hе бійся, але говори і не замовкай,	And the Lord said unto Paul by a vision in the night, Be not afraid, but speak and hold not thy peace:

бо Я з тобою, і ніхто не вчинить тобі зла, тому що в Мене багато є людей у цьому містi».	for I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to harm thee: for I have much people in this city.

І він залишався там рік і шість місяців, навчаючи їх слова Божого.	And he dwelt there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

Коли Галліон був проконсулом в Ахаї‚ юдеї однодушно напали на Павла і привели його на судилище,	But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him before the judgment seat,

а коли йде суперечка про вчення та про імена і про закон ваш, то розберіться самi; я не хочу бути суддею в цьому».	but if it is a question about words and names and your own law, look to it yourselves; for I am not minded to be a judge of these matters.

І прогнав їх від судилища.	And he drove them from the judgment seat.

А всі елліни, схопивши Сосфена, начальника синагоги, били його перед судилищем; Галліон же анітрохи не турбувався про це.	And all the Greeks laid hold on Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And none of these things was a delay to Gallio.

Павло, пробувши ще чимало днів, попрощався з браттями і відплив до Сирії (і з ним Акила і Прискілла), обстригши голову в Кенхреях, за обітницею.	And Paul, having tarried after this yet many days, took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence for Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila: having shorn his head in Cenchreae; for he had a vow.

Прибувши до Ефеса, залишив їх там, а сам пішов до синагоги і говорив з юдеями.	And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.

а попрощався з ними, сказавши: «Мені неодмінно треба провести в Єрусалимі свято, що наближається; до вас же повернуся знов, якщо це буде угодно Боговi». І відплив з Ефеса; Акила і Прискілла залишилися в Ефесі.	but took his leave of them, saying, I must by all means keep the coming feast at Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you if God will. And he set sail from Ephesus,

Побувавши в Кесарії, (він) прийшов до Єрусалима, привітав церкву і пішов до Антиохії.	and when he had landed at Caesarea, he went up and saluted the church, and went down to Antioch.

Пробувши там деякий час, вийшов і проходив по черзі країну Галатійську та Фригію, утверджуючи всіх учеників.	And having spent some time there, he departed, and went through the region of Galatia, and Phrygia, in order, confirming all the disciples.

Якийсь юдей, на ім’я Аполлос, родом з Олександрії, чоловік красномовний та досвідчений у Писаннях, прийшов до Ефеса.	Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus; and he was mighty in the scriptures.

Він був наставлений на шлях Господній і, пломеніючи духом, говорив та вчив про Господа правдиво, знаючи тільки про хрещення Іоанове.	This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spake and taught accurately the things concerning the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John:

Він почав сміливо говорити в синагозі. Почувши його, Акила і Прискілла прийняли його і досконаліше пояснили йому шлях Господній.	and he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But when Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more accurately.

А коли він вирішив іти до Ахаї, браття написали ученикам, щоб прийняли його; і він, прибувши туди, багато сприяв благодаттю тим, хто увірував,	And when he was minded to pass over into Achaia, the brethren encouraged him, and wrote to the disciples to receive him: and when he was come, he helped them much that had believed through grace;

бо він дуже викривав юдеїв привселюдно, доводячи з Писання, що Ісус є Христос.	for he powerfully confuted the Jews, and that publicly, showing by the scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.
Глава 19	Chapter 19

Під час перебування Аполлоса в Коринфі, Павло, пройшовши верхні країни, прибув до Ефеса і, знайшовши там деяких учеників,	And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper country came to Ephesus; and finding certain disciples,

сказав їм: «Чи прийняли ви Святого Духа, увірувавши?» Вони ж сказали йому: «Ми навіть і не чули, чи є Дух Святий».	he said unto them, Did ye receive the Holy Spirit when ye believed? And they said unto him, Nay, we did not so much as hear whether the Holy Spirit was given.

Він сказав їм: «У що ж ви хрестились?» Вони відповідали: «В Іоанове хрещення».	And he said unto them, Into what then were ye baptized? And they said, Into John’s baptism.

Павло сказав: «Іоан хрестив хрещенням покаяння, говорячи людям, щоб вірували у Грядущого за ним, тобто у Христа Ісуса».	And Paul said, John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him that should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

Почувши це, вони хрестилися в ім’я Господа Ісуса,	And when they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.

і, коли Павло поклав на них руки, зійшов на них Дух Святий, і вони стали говорити іншими мовами і пророкувати.	And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Усіх же їх було чоловік близько дванадцяти.	And they were in all about twelve men.

Прийшовши до синагоги, він безбоязно проповідував три місяці, навчаючи та переконуючи про Царство Боже.	And he entered into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, reasoning and persuading as to the things concerning the kingdom of God.

Але оскільки деякі розлютилися і не вірили, злословлячи шлях Господній перед народом, то він, залишивши їх, відділив учеників і щоденно проповідував в училищі якогось Тирана.	But when some were hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

Це тривало майже два роки, так що всі жителі Асії слухали проповідь про Господа Ісуса: як юдеї, так і елліни.	And this continued for the space of two years; so that all they that dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

Бог же творив немало чудес руками Павла,	And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:

так що на хворих клали хустки і пояси з його тіла, і вони зцілялися від хвороби, і злі духи виходили з них.	insomuch that unto the sick were brought handkerchiefs or aprons from his body, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out from them.

Hавіть деякі з мандрівних юдейських заклинателів почали призивати ім’я Господа Ісуса над тими, що мали злих духів, говорячи: «Заклинаємо вас Ісусом, котрого Павло проповідує».	But certain of the strolling Jews, exorcists, took upon them to name over them that had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

Це робили якісь семеро синів юдейського первосвященика Скеви.	And there were certain men, seven sons of Sceva, a Jew, a chief priest, who did this.

Але злий дух сказав у відповідь: «Ісуса знаю, і Павло мені відомий, а ви хто такі?»	And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

І кинувся на них чоловік, у якому перебував злий дух, і, подолавши їх, узяв над ними таку силу, що вони нагими й зраненими втекли з дому того.	And the man in whom was the evil spirit, leaping upon them and mastering them, prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

Це стало відоме всім юдеям і еллінам, що проживали в Ефесі, і напав страх на всіх них, і звеличувалося ім’я Господа Ісуса.	And this became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, that dwelt at Ephesus; and fear fell upon them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

Багато з тих, що увірували, приходили, сповідаючи і відкриваючи діла свої.	Many also of them that had believed came, confessing, and declaring their deeds.

А досить багато з тих, що займалися чародійством, зібравши свої книги, спалили перед усіма, і склали ціну їх, і виявилось їх на п’ятдесят тисяч драхм.	And not a few of them that practiced magical arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all; and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

З такою силою зростало і міцніло слово Господнє.	So mightily grew the word of the Lord and prevailed.

Коли ж це скінчилося, Павло задумав, пройшовши Македонію і Ахаю, йти до Єрусалима, сказавши: «Коли буду там, то я маю побачити і Рим».	Now after these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.

І‚ пославши в Македонію двох із тих, що служили йому, Тимофія та Ераста, сам залишився на деякий час в Асії.	And having sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timothy and Erastus, he himself stayed in Asia for a while.

Того часу стався чималий заколот проти путі Господньої,	And about that time there arose no small stir concerning the Way.

бо один срібляник, на ім’я Димитрій, який робив срібні храми Артеміди і давав митцям чималий заробіток,	For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Diana, brought no little business unto the craftsmen;

зібравши їх та інших ремісників, сказав: «Друзі! Ви знаєте, що від цього ремесла залежить наш добробут;	whom he gathered together, with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this business we have our wealth.

проте ви бачите і чуєте, що не тільки в Ефесі, а майже по всій Асії цей Павло своїми переконаннями відвернув немало людей, говорячи, що те, що зроблене руками людськими, не є боги.	And ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they are no gods, that are made with hands:

Але це нам загрожує тим, що не тільки наше ремесло зазнає зневаги, але й храм великої богині Артеміди не вартий буде нічого, і знищиться велич тієї, котру шанує вся Асія і всесвіт».	and not only is there danger that this our trade come into disrepute; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana be made of no account, and that her magnificence should also be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshipeth.

Вислухавши це, вони розлютилися і почали кричати, говорячи: «Велика Артеміда Ефеська!»	And when they heard this they were filled with wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

У всьому місті зчинився заколот. Схопивши македонян Гая і Аристарха, супутників Павлових, вони однодушно кинулися на видовище.	And the whole city was filled with the confusion: and they rushed with one accord into the theater, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel.

Коли ж Павло хотів увійти в народ, ученики не допустили його.	And when Paul was minded to enter in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.

Також і деякі з асійських начальників, що були його друзями, пославши до нього, просили не з’являтися на видовищі.	And certain also of the Asiarchs, being his friends, sent unto him and besought him not to adventure himself into the theater.

А тим часом одні кричали одне, а інші — друге, бо збори були безладні, і більша частина тих, що зійшлися, не знали, для чого вони зібралися.	Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was in confusion; and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.

За пропозицією юдеїв, з народу був обраний Олександр. Подавши знак рукою, Олександр хотів говорити до народу.	And they brought Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews having put him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made a defense unto the people.

Довідавшись, що він юдей, усі закричали в один голос і близько двох годин викрикували: «Велика Артеміда Ефеська!»	But when they perceived that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

Охоронець порядку, втихомиривши народ, сказав: «Мужі ефеські! Який чоловік не знає, що місто Ефес — служитель великої богині Артеміди і Діопета?	And when the town clerk had quieted the multitude, he saith, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there who knoweth not that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

Якщо ж у цьому немає суперечок, то треба нам бути спокійними і нічого не робити необачно.	Seeing then that these things cannot be gainsaid, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rash.

А ви привели цих мужів, які ні храму Артеміди не обікрали, ні богині нашої не ганили.	For ye have brought hither these men, who are neither robbers of temples nor blasphemers of your god.

Якщо ж Димитрій та інші з ним митці мають скаргу на когось, то є суди і є проконсули і нехай скаржаться один на одного.	If therefore Demetrius, and the craftsmen that are with him, have a matter against any man, the courts are open, and there are proconsuls: let them accuse one another.

А коли ви домагаєтесь чогось іншого, то це буде вирішено на законному зібранні;	But if ye seek anything about other matters, it shall be settled in the regular assembly.

бо ми перебуваємо в небезпецi; за те, що сталося нині, нас звинуватять у заколоті, оскільки нема ніякої причини, якою ми змогли б виправдати таке зборище». Сказавши це, він розпустив зібрання.	For indeed we are in danger to be accused concerning this day’s riot, there being no cause for it: and as touching it we shall not be able to give account of this concourse.
Глава 20	Chapter 20

Коли заколот припинився, Павло, покликавши учеників і давши їм настановлення та попрощавшись з ними, вийшов і пішов до Македонії.	And after the uproar ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and took leave of them, and departed to go into Macedonia.

Пройшовши ті краї і втішивши віруючих щедрими настановами, він прийшов до Еллади.	And when he had gone through those parts, and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece.

Там він пробув три місяці. Коли ж, унаслідок змови, вчиненої проти нього юдеями, він хотів вирушити до Сирії, спало йому на думку повернутися через Македонію.	And when he had spent three months there, and a plot was laid against him by the Jews as he was about to set sail for Syria, a decision was made to return through Macedonia.

Його супроводили до Асії Сосипатр Піррів з Верії, та з солунян — Аристарх і Секунд, і Гай дерв’янин, і Тимофій та асійці Тихик і Трофим.	And there accompanied him as far as Asia, Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.

Вони, йдучи попереду, чекали нас у Троаді.	These came, and were waiting for us at Troas.

А ми після днів опрісночних відпливли з Филипів і днів за п’ять прийшли до них у Троаду, де пробули сім днів.	And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we tarried seven days.

Першого ж дня тижня, коли ученики зібралися на переломлення хліба, Павло, маючи намір вирушити вранці наступного дня, розмовляв із ними і продовжив слово до півночі.	And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples were gathered together to break bread, Paul discoursed with them, intending to depart on the morrow; and prolonged his speech until midnight.

У світлиці, де ми зібралися, було багато світильників.	And there were many lights in the upper chamber where we were gathered together.

Під час тривалої Павлової бесіди одного юнака на ім’я Євтих, який сидів на вікні, огорнув глибокий сон і він, сонний, похитнувшись, упав додолу з третього поверху, і підняли його мертвим.	And there sat in the window a certain young man named Eutychus, borne down with deep sleep; and as Paul discoursed yet longer, being borne down by his sleep he fell down from the third story, and was taken up dead.

Павло, зійшовши, припав до нього і, обнявши його, сказав: «Заспокойтесь, бо душа його в ньому».	And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Make ye no ado; for his life is in him.

Увійшовши ж і переломивши хліб та споживши, довго вів бесіду — аж до світанку, і потім вийшов.	And when he was gone up, and had broken bread, and eaten, and had talked with them a long while, even till break of day, so he departed.

Юнака ж привели живого, і немало втішилися.	And they brought the lad alive, and were not a little comforted.

Ми пішли вперед на корабель і попливли в Асс, щоб узяти звідтіля Павла; бо він так наказав нам, намірюючись сам іти пішки.	But we, going to the ship, set sail for Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, intending himself to go by land.

Коли ж він зустрівся з нами в Ассі, то, взявши його, ми прибули до Мітилини.	And when he met us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene.

І, відпливши звідти, наступного дня зупинилися навпроти Хіоса, а другого дня пристали до Самоса і, побувавши в Трогіллії, наступного дня прибули в Мелит,	And sailing from thence, we came the following day over against Chios; and the next day we touched at Samos; and having tarried at Trogyllium, the day after we came to Miletus.

бо Павлові спало на думку обминути Ефес, щоб не затриматися йому в Асії: він поспішав, щоб‚ якщо можливо, на день П’ятдесятниці бути в Єрусалимі.	For Paul had determined to sail past Ephesus, that he might not have to spend time in Asia; for he was hastening, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.

З Мелита ж, пославши до Ефеса, він скликав пресвітерів церкви,	And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called to him the elders of the church.

і, коли вони прийшли до нього, він сказав їм: «Ви знаєте, що я з першого дня, як прийшов в Асію, весь час перебував з вами,	And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye yourselves know, from the first day that I set foot in Asia, after what manner I was with you all the time,

служив Господеві з усякою смиренномудрістю і з рясними сльозами серед спокус, що я їх зазнав через підступи юдеїв;	serving the Lord with all lowliness of mind, and with many tears, and with trials which befell me by the plots of the Jews;

що я не пропустив нічого корисного, про що вам не проповідував би і чого не навчав би вас прилюдно і по домах,	how I shrank not from declaring unto you anything that was profitable, and teaching you publicly, and from house to house,

проповідуючи юдеям і еллінам покаяння перед Богом і віру в Господа нашого Ісуса Христа.	testifying both to Jews and to Greeks repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

І ось нині я, за велінням Духа, йду до Єрусалима, не знаючи, що там зустріне мене;	And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there:

тільки Дух Святий по всіх містах свідчить, кажучи, що кайдани і скорботи чекають мене.	save that the Holy Spirit testifieth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.

Але я ні на що не зважаю і не дорожу своїм життям, тільки б з радістю завершити мою діяльність і служіння, що я прийняв від Господа Ісуса: проповідувати Євангеліє благодаті Божої.	But I make no account, neither count I my life precious unto myself, so that I may accomplish my course with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

І нині ось я знаю, що вже не побачите обличчя мого всі ви, між якими я ходив, проповідуючи Царство Боже.	And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I went about preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.

Тому свідчу вам у нинішній день, що чистий я від крови усіх,	For I testify unto you this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.

бо я не ухилявся сповіщати вам усю волю Божу.	For I shrank not from declaring unto you the whole counsel of God.

Отже, пильнуйте себе і всю отару, в якій Дух Святий настановив вас бути єпископами, пасти Церкву Господа і Бога, яку Він надбав Кров’ю Своєю.	Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit hath made you bishops, to feed the church of our Lord and God, which he purchased with his own blood.

Бо я знаю, що після відходу мого прийдуть до вас люті вовки, які не щадитимуть стада;	For I know this, that after my departing grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock;

та і з вас самих постануть люди, які говоритимуть неправдиво, щоб повести учеників за собою.	and from among your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.

А тому пильнуйте, пам’ятаючи, що я три роки день і ніч безперестанно зі сльозами навчав кожного з вас.	Wherefore watch ye, remembering that by the space of three years I ceased not to admonish every one night and day with tears.

І нині передаю вас, браття, Богові і слову благодаті Його, Який зможе навчати вас більше і дати вам спадщину з усіма освяченими.	And now I commend you, brethren, to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them that are sanctified.

Hі срібла, ні золота, ні одягу я ні від кого не побажав;	I coveted no man’s silver, or gold, or apparel.

самі знаєте, що потребам моїм і тих, що були зі мною, послужили ці руки мої.	Ye yourselves know that these hands ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.

У всьому показав я вам, що, так працюючи, треба підтримувати слабких і пам’ятати слово Господа Ісуса, бо Він сам сказав: «Блаженніше давати, ніж приймати».	In all things I gave you an example, that so laboring ye ought to help the weak, and to remember the word of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Сказавши це, він став на коліна і з усіма ними помолився.	And when he had thus spoken, he knelt down and prayed with them all.

Тоді великий плач був у всіх, і, припадаючи на шию Павлові, цілували його,	And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul’s neck and kissed him,

сумуючи найбільш від сказаного ним слова, що вони вже не побачать обличчя його. І проводжали його до корабля.	sorrowing most of all for the word which he had spoken, that they should behold his face no more. And they brought him on his way unto the ship.
Глава 21	Chapter 21

Коли ж ми, розлучившись із ними, відпливли, одразу прийшли до Косу, другого дня — в Родос, а звідти до Патари,	And when it came to pass that we were parted from them and had set sail, we came with a straight course unto Cos, and the next day unto Rhodes, and from thence unto Patara:

і, знайшовши корабель, що прямував до Фінікії, зійшли на нього і відпливли.	and having found a ship crossing over unto Phoenicia, we went aboard, and set sail.

Коли показався Кіпр, ми, залишивши його ліворуч, попливли до Сирії і причалили в Тирі, бо тут треба було розвантажити корабель.	And when we had come in sight of Cyprus, leaving it on the left hand, we sailed unto Syria, and landed at Tyre; for there the ship was to unlade her burden.

І, знайшовши учеників, пробули там сім днів. Вони, з натхнення Духа, говорили Павлові, щоб він не йшов до Єрусалима.	And having found disciples, we tarried there seven days: and these said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not go up to Jerusalem.

Перебувши ці дні, ми вийшли і пішли, і нас усі проводжали з жінками і дітьми аж за місто; а на березі, ставши на коліна, помолились.	And when it came to pass that we had accomplished the days, we departed and went on our journey; and they all, with wives and children, brought us on our way till we were out of the city: and kneeling down on the beach, we prayed.

І, попрощавшись один з одним, ми зійшли на корабель, а вони повернулися додому.	And when we had bade each other farewell, we went on board the ship, but they returned home again.

Ми ж, завершивши плавання, з Тиру прибули до Птолемаїди, де, привітавши братію, пробули в них один день.	And when we had finished the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais; and we saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.

А другого дня вранці Павло і ми, що були з ним, вийшовши, прийшли до Кесарії і, увійшовши в дім Филипа-благовісника, одного з семи дияконів, залишились у нього.	And on the morrow they that were of Paul’s company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and entering into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, we abode with him.

У нього було чотири дочки дівиці, які пророкували.	Now this man had four virgin daughters, who prophesied.

і, увійшовши до нас, він узяв Павлів пояс і, зв’язавши свої руки й ноги, сказав: «Так говорить Дух Святий: мужа, якому належить цей пояс, так зв’яжуть юдеї в Єрусалимі і видадуть у руки язичників».	And coming to us, and taking Paul’s girdle, and having bound his own feet and hands, he said, Thus saith the Holy Spirit, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

Коли ж ми почули це, то і місцевi‚ і ми просили, щоб він не ходив до Єрусалима.	And when we heard these things, both we and they of that place besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.

Але Павло у відповідь сказав: «Що ви робите? Чого плачете і засмучуєте серце моє? Я не тільки хочу бути в’язнем, а готовий померти в Єрусалимі за ім’я Господа Ісуса».	And Paul answered, What do ye, weeping and breaking my heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

Коли ж ми не змогли умовити його, то заспокоїлись, сказавши: «Hехай буде воля Господня!»	And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.

По цих днях, приготувавшись, ми пішли до Єрусалима.	And after these days we made preparations and went up to Jerusalem.

З нами йшли і деякі ученики з Кесарії, проводжаючи нас до одного Мнасона кіпрянина‚ давнього ученика, в якого можна було б нам жити.	And there went with us also certain of the disciples from Caesarea, bringing with them one Mnason of Cyprus, an early disciple, with whom we should lodge.

Коли прибули ми до Єрусалима, браття привітно прийняли нас.	And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.

Другого дня Павло прийшов з нами до Якова; прийшли і всі пресвітери.	And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present.

Привітавши їх, Павло розповідав докладно, що створив Бог у язичників через його служіння.	And when he had saluted them, he rehearsed one by one the things which God had wrought among the Gentiles through his ministry.

Вони ж, вислухавши, прославили Бога і сказали йому: «Бачиш, брате, скільки тисяч юдеїв [якi] увірувало, і всі вони — ревнителі закону.	And they, when they heard it, glorified the Lord; and they said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands there are of the Jews that have believed; and they are all zealous for the law:

Вони ж наслухались про тебе, що ти всіх юдеїв, які живуть між язичниками, навчаєш відступництва від Мойсея, говорячи, щоб вони не обрізували дітей своїх і не дотримувалися звичаїв батьківських.	and they have been informed concerning thee, that thou teachest all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.

Отже, що ж? Hапевне, зійдеться народ; бо почують, що ти прийшов.	What is it therefore? certainly the multitude must needs come together: for they will hear that thou art come.

Зроби ж те, що скажемо тобі. Є в нас чотири чоловіки, які взяли на себе обітницю.	Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men that have a vow on them;

Взявши їх, очисться з ними і прийми на себе витрати на жертву за них, щоб обстригли собі голови, і пізнають усі, що почуте ними про тебе несправедливе, але що й сам ти продовжуєш дотримуватись закону.	these take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges for them, that they may shave their heads: and all may know that there is no truth in the things whereof they have been informed concerning thee; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, keeping the law.

А про язичників, які увірували, ми писали, щоб вони нічого такого не дотримувалися, а лише охороняли себе від ідоложертовного, від крови, від удавленини та блуду».	But as touching the Gentiles that have believed, we wrote, giving judgment that they should observe no such thing, save only that they should keep themselves from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what is strangled, and from fornication.

Тоді Павло, узявши тих мужів і очистившись із ними, наступного дня увійшов у храм і оголосив закінчення днів очищення, коли мала бути принесена за кожного з них жертва.	Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them went into the temple, declaring the fulfillment of the days of purification, until the offering was offered for every one of them.

Коли ж сім днів закінчувалися, тоді асійські юдеї, побачивши його в храмі, підбурили весь народ і наклали на нього руки,	And when the seven days were almost completed, the Jews from Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all the multitude and laid hands on him,

викликуючи: «Мужі ізраїльські, допоможіть: цей чоловік скрізь навчає всіх проти народу і закону і місця цього; до того ж і еллінів увів у храм і осквернив це святе місце».	crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man that teacheth all men everywhere against the people, and the law, and this place; and moreover he brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath defiled this holy place.

Бо перед цим вони бачили з ним у місті Трофима ефесянина і думали, що Павло увів його до храму.	For they had seen with him in the city Trophimus the Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.

Усе місто заворушилося‚ і народ збігся; і, схопивши Павла, потягли його геть з храму, і негайно було зачинено двері.	And all the city was moved, and the people ran together; and they laid hold on Paul, and dragged him out of the temple: and straightaway the doors were shut.

Коли ж вони хотіли вбити його, до тисяцького полку дійшла звістка, що увесь Єрусалим збунтувався.	But as they were seeking to kill him, tidings came up to the chief captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in confusion.

Він, негайно взявши воїнів і сотників, рушив на них; вони ж, побачивши тисяцького та воїнів, перестали бити Павла.	And forthwith he took soldiers and centurions, and ran down upon them: and they, when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, left off beating Paul.

Тоді тисяцький, наблизившись, узяв його і звелів закути двома ланцюгами, і допитувався, хто він та що вчинив.	And the chief captain came near, and laid hold on him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and inquired who he might be, and what he had done.

У народі одні кричали одне, а інші — друге; він же, не змігши через сум’яття довідатись про щось певне, звелів вести його до фортеці.	And some cried one thing, some another, among the crowd: and when he could not know the certainty for the uproar, he commanded him to be brought into the castle.

Коли ж він був на сходах, воїнам довелося нести його через натовп людський,	And when he came upon the stairs, so it was that he was borne of the soldiers for the violence of the crowd;

бо багато людей йшли слідом і кричали: «Смерть йому!»	for the multitude of the people followed after, crying out, Away with him.

Входячи до фортеці, Павло сказав тисяцькому: «Чи можна мені щось тобі сказати?» А той відповів: «Ти знаєш по-грецьки?	And as Paul was about to be brought into the castle, he saith unto the chief captain, May I speak unto thee? And he said, Dost thou know Greek?

Так чи не ти той єгиптянин, який перед цими днями вчинив заворушення і вивів у пустелю чотири тисячі розбійників?»	Art thou not then the Egyptian, who before these days stirred up to sedition and led out into the wilderness the four thousand men of the Assassins?

Павло ж сказав: «Я — юдеянин, тарсянин, громадянин досить відомого киликійського міста; прошу тебе, дозволь мені говорити до народу».	But Paul said, I am a Jew, of Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and I beseech thee, give me leave to speak unto the people.

Глава 22	Chapter 22

«Мужі, браття і отці! Вислухайте тепер моє виправдання перед вами».	Brethren and fathers, hear ye the defense which I now make unto you.

Почувши ж, що він заговорив з ними єврейською мовою, вони ще більше стихли. Він сказав:	And when they heard that he spake unto them in the Hebrew language, they were the more quiet: and he saith,

«Я — юдеянин, народився у Тарсі киликійському, вихований у цьому місті при ногах Гамаліїла, ретельно навчений у батьківському законі, ревнитель у Бозі, як і всі ви нині.	I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city, at the feet of Gamaliel, instructed according to the strict manner of the law of our fathers, being zealous for God, even as ye all are this day:

Я гнав послідовників цього вчення навіть до смерті, зв’язуючи і віддаючи до в’язниці і чоловіків, і жінок,	and I persecuted this Way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

як засвідчать про мене первосвященик і всі старійшини, від котрих, узявши листи до братії, що живе в Дамаску, я йшов, щоб тамтешніх привести в кайданах до Єрусалима на катування.	As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and journeyed to Damascus to bring them also that were there unto Jerusalem in bonds to be punished.

І коли я був у дорозі і наближався до Дамаска, близько полудня несподівано осяяло мене велике світло з неба.	And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and drew nigh unto Damascus, about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.

Я впав на землю і почув голос, що говорив мені: «Савле, Савле! Чому ти гониш Мене?»	And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

Я відповів: «Хто Ти, Господи?» Він сказав мені: «Я Ісус Hазорей, Якого ти гониш».	And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.

Ті, що були зі мною, бачили світло і злякалися, але голосу Того, Хто говорив мені, не чули.	And they that were with me beheld indeed the light, and were affrighted; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.

Тоді я сказав: «Господи! Що мені робити?» Господь же сказав мені: «Устань та йди в Дамаск, і там тобі сказано буде все, що призначено тобі робити».	And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.

А оскільки я від слави світла того позбувся зору, то ті, що були зі мною, за руку привели мене до Дамаска.	And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me I came into Damascus.

Один Ананія, чоловік благочестивий за законом, про що свідчать усі юдеї, що живуть у Дамаску,	And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well reported of by all the Jews that dwelt in Damascus,

прийшов до мене і, підійшовши, сказав мені: «Савле‚ брате! Прозри». І я негайно побачив його.	came unto me, and standing by me said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And in that very hour I looked up on him.

Він же сказав мені: «Бог отців наших наперед обрав тебе, щоб ти пізнав волю Його, побачив Праведника і почув голос з уст Його,	And he said, The God of our fathers hath appointed thee to know his will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear a voice from his mouth.

бо ти будеш Йому свідком перед усіма людьми у тому, що бачив і чув.	For thou shalt be a witness for him unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
16	16
Отже, чого ж ти зволікаєш? Устань, охрестися та обмий гріхи твої, призвавши ім’я Господа Ісуса».	And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Коли я повернувся до Єрусалима і молився в храмі, не тямлячи себе,	And it came to pass, that, when I had returned to Jerusalem, and while I prayed in the temple, I fell into a trance,

я побачив Його‚ і Він сказав мені: «Поспіши і скоріше вийди з Єрусалима, бо тут не приймуть твого свідчення про Мене».	and saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem; because they will not receive of thee the testimony concerning me.

Я сказав: «Господи, їм відомо, що я тих, хто вірував у Тебе, ув’язнював у темниці і бив у синагогах,	And I said, Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:

і коли проливалася кров Стефана, свідка Твого, я стояв там, схвалюючи вбивство його, і стеріг одежу тих, хто вбивав його».	and when the blood of Stephen thy witness was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, keeping the garments of them that slew him.

І Він сказав мені: «Йди; Я пошлю тебе далеко до язичників».	And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee forth far hence unto the Gentiles.

До цього слова слухали його; а потім підняли крик, гукаючи: «Знищ із землі такого! Бо йому не слід жити».	And they gave him audience unto this word; and they lifted up their voice, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

Поки вони кричали, кидали одяг і порох у повітря,	And as they cried out, and threw off their garments, and cast dust into the air,

тисяцький звелів увести його в фортецю, наказав бичувати його, щоб довідатися: з якої причини так кричали проти нього.	the chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, bidding that he should be examined by scourging, that he might know for what cause they so shouted against him.

Але коли розтягли його ремінням, Павло сказав сотникові, що стояв: «Хіба вам дозволено бичувати римського громадянина, та ще й без суду?»	And as he tied him up with the thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?

Почувши ж це, сотник пішов і доповів тисяцькому, говорячи: «Дивись, що ти хочеш робити! Цей чоловік — римський громадянин».	And when the centurion heard it, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou art about to do: for this man is a Roman.

Тоді тисяцький, підійшовши до нього, сказав: «Скажи мені, ти римський громадянин?» Він сказав: «Так».	And the chief captain came and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? And he said, Yea.

Тисяцький на те відповів: «Я за великі гроші придбав це громадянство». Павло ж сказав: «А я і народився в ньому».	And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this citizenship. And Paul said, But I am a Roman born.

Тоді відразу відступили від нього ті, хто хотів катувати його, а тисяцький, дізнавшись, що він римський громадянин, злякався, що зв’язав його.	They then that were about to examine him straightaway departed from him: and the chief captain also was afraid when he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.

Другого дня, бажаючи достовірно дізнатися, в чому звинувачують його юдеї, звільнив його від кайданів, і звелів зібратися первосвященикам і всьому синедріону та, вивівши Павла, поставив його перед ними.	But on the morrow, desiring to know the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bonds, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to come, and brought Paul down and set him before them.
Глава 23	Chapter 23

1	1
Павло, звівши погляд на синедріон, сказав: «Мужі-браття! Я всією доброю совістю жив перед Богом до цього дня».	And Paul, looking steadfastly on the council, said, Brethren, I have lived before God in all good conscience until this day.

Первосвященик же Ананія звелів тим, що стояли перед ним, бити його по устах.	And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.

Тоді Павло сказав йому: «Бог буде бити тебе, стіно поваплена! Ти сидиш, щоб судити мене за законом, і, супроти закону, велиш бити мене».	Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: and sittest thou to judge me according to the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?

А ті, що стояли перед ним, сказали: «Первосвященика Божого ганьбиш?»	And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God’s high priest?

Павло сказав: «Я не знав, браття, що він первосвященик; бо, як написано: на начальника народу твого не лихослов».	And Paul said, I knew not, brethren, that he was high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of a ruler of thy people.

Павло, зрозумівши, що тут одна частина саддукеїв, а друга фарисеїв, виголосив у синедріоні: «Мужі-браття! Я фарисей, син фарисея; за надію на воскресіння мертвих мене судять».	But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: touching the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

Коли він це сказав, стався розбрат між фарисеями і саддукеями, і збори розділилися.	And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and Sadducees; and the assembly was divided.

Бо саддукеї кажуть, що нема воскресіння, ні ангела, ні духа, а фарисеї визнають і те, й інше.	For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess both.

Зчинився великий галас, і книжники фарисейської частини, піднявшись, сперечалися між собою, кажучи: «Hічого лихого не знаходимо ми в цьому чоловікові. Якщо дух чи ангел говорив йому, не противмося Боговi».	And there arose a great clamor: and the scribes of the Pharisees’ part stood up, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: and if a spirit hath spoken to him, or an angel, let us not fight against God.

Та як розлад збільшився, тисяцький, боячись, щоб вони не розтерзали Павла, звелів воїнам зійти, взяти його з-поміж них і відвести у фортецю.	And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should be torn in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by force from among them, and bring him into the castle.

Hаступної ночі Господь, з’явившись йому, сказав: «Дерзай, Павле; бо як ти свідчив про Мене в Єрусалимі, так належить тобі свідчити і в Римi».	And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified concerning me at Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

Коли настав день, деякі юдеї, порадившись, поклялися не їсти і не пити, доки не уб’ють Павла.	And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

Було їх понад сорок, що поклялися.	And they were more than forty that had made this conspiracy.

Вони, прийшовши до первосвящеників і старійшин, сказали: «Ми клятвою заприсяглися нічого не їсти, поки не уб’ємо Павла.	And they came to the chief priests and the elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, to taste nothing until we have killed Paul.

Отже, нині ви з синедріоном скажіть тисяцькому, щоб завтра вивів його до нас, ніби ви хочете точніше розглянути справу про нього; а ми, перш ніж він наблизиться, готові вбити його».	Now therefore do ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you tomorrow, as though ye would judge of his case more exactly: and we, before he comes near, are ready to slay him.

Почувши про цей замір, син Павлової сестри прийшов і, увійшовши у фортецю, повідомив Павла.	But Paul’s sister’s son heard of their lying in wait, and he came and entered into the castle and told Paul.

Павло ж покликав одного з сотників і сказав: «Відведи цього юнака до тисяцького, бо він має дещо сказати йому».	And Paul called unto him one of the centurions, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain; for he hath something to tell him.

Той, взявши його, привів до тисяцького і сказав: «В’язень Павло покликав мене і просив одвести до тебе цього юнака, котрий має дещо сказати тобi».	So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and saith, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and asked me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say to thee.

Тисяцький, взявши його за руку і відійшовши з ним, спитав на самоті: «Що таке маєш звістити мені?»	And the chief captain took him by the hand, and going aside asked him privately, What is it that thou hast to tell me?

Він відповів, що юдеї змовилися просити тебе, щоб ти завтра вранці вивів Павла до них у синедріон, так ніби вони хочуть точніше дослідити справу про нього.	And he said, The Jews have agreed to ask thee to bring down Paul tomorrow unto the council, as though they would inquire somewhat more exactly concerning him.

Але ти не слухай їх, бо його підстерігають понад сорок чоловік з них, які поклялися не їсти і не пити, доки не уб’ють його; і тепер вони готові, чекаючи твого розпорядження.	Do not thou therefore yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, who have bound themselves under a curse, neither to eat nor to drink till they have slain him: and now are they ready, looking for the promise from thee.

Тоді тисяцький відпустив юнака, сказавши: «Hікому не кажи, що ти повідомив про це мене».	So the chief captain let the young man go, charging him, Tell no man that thou hast signified these things to me.

І, покликавши двох сотників, сказав: «Приготуйте мені двісті озброєних воїнів, і сімдесят кінних, і стрільців двісті, щоб із третьої години ночі ішли до Кесарії.	And he called unto him certain two of the centurions, and said, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go as far as Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night:

Приготуйте також ослів, щоб, посадовивши Павла, перепровадити його до правителя Фелікса».	and he bade them provide beasts, that they might set Paul thereon, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.

Hаписав і листа такого змісту:	And he wrote a letter after this form:

«Клавдій Лісій високоповажному правителю Феліксу — вітання.	Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix, greeting.

Цього мужа юдеї схопили і готові були вбити; я, прийшовши з воїнами, відняв його, дізнавшись, що він римський громадянин.	This man was seized by the Jews, and was about to be slain of them, when I came upon them with the soldiers and rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman.

Потім, бажаючи з’ясувати, в чому його звинувачують, привів його в їхній синедріон	And desiring to know the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him down unto their council:

і знайшов, що його звинувачують за суперечливу думку щодо їхнього закону, але що в ньому ніякої немає провини, вартої смерти чи кайданів.	whom I found to be accused about questions of their law, though he had nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.

А почувши, що юдеї замислили зло на цього чоловіка, я негайно надіслав його до тебе, наказавши і обвинувачам говорити на нього перед тобою. Здоровий будь».	And when it was shown to me that a plot was about to be executed against the man by the Jews, I sent him to thee forthwith, charging his accusers also to speak what they had against him before thee. Farewell.

Отже, воїни, за даним їм наказом, взявши Павла, повели вночі до Антипатриди.	So the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris.

А другого дня, залишивши кінних іти з ним, повернулися до фортеці.	But on the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:

А ті, прийшовши до Кесарії і віддавши листа правителеві, поставили перед ним і Павла.	and they, when they came to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, presented Paul also before him.

Правитель, прочитавши листа, спитав, з якої він області, і, довідавшись, що із Киликії, сказав:	And when the governor had read it, he asked of what province he was; and when he understood that he was of Cilicia,

«Я вислухаю тебе, коли прийдуть твої обвинувачi». І звелів йому бути під вартою в Іродовій преторії.	I will hear thee fully, said he, when thine accusers also are come: and he commanded him to be kept in Herod’s palace.
Глава 24	Chapter 24

Через п’ять днів прийшли первосвященик Ананія зі старійшинами і з якимсь ритором Тертуллом, які скаржилися правителеві на Павла.	And after five days the high priest Ananias came down with the elders, and with an orator, one Tertullus; and they informed the governor against Paul.

Коли ж його покликали, то Тертулл почав його звинувачувати, кажучи:	And when he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy much peace, and that by thy providence worthy deeds are done for this nation,

«Завжди і повсюди з усякою вдячністю ми визнаємо, що тобі, високоповажний Феліксе, ми зобов’язані стійким миром і твоєму піклуванню про благоустрій цього народу.	we accept it in all ways and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.

Та щоб багато не турбувати тебе, прошу тебе вислухати нас коротко з властивою тобі лагідністю.	But, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I entreat thee to hear us of thy clemency a few words.

Знайшовши цього чоловіка губителем суспільства, підбурювачем заколоту між юдеями, що живуть по всьому світі, і представником Назорейської єресі,	For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of insurrection among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

який наважився навіть осквернити храм, ми взяли його і хотіли судити його за нашим законом.	who moreover assayed to profane the temple: on whom also we laid hold:

Але тисяцький Лісій, прийшовши з великою силою, взяв його з рук наших і послав до тебе,

звелівши і нам, його обвинувачам, іти до тебе. Ти можеш сам, розібравшись, дізнатись від нього про все те, в чому ми звинувачуємо його».	from whom thou wilt be able, by examining him thyself, to take knowledge of all these things whereof we accuse him.

І юдеї підтвердили, сказавши, що це так.	And the Jews also joined in the charge, affirming that these things were so.

Павло ж, коли правитель дав йому знак говорити, відповів: «Знаючи, що ти багато років справедливо судиш народ цей, я тим вільніше буду захищати мою справу.	And when the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, Paul answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully make my defense:

Ти можеш довідатися, що не більше дванадцяти днів минуло, як я прийшов до Єрусалима на поклоніння.	seeing that thou canst take knowledge that it is not more than twelve days since I went up to worship in Jerusalem:

Hі в святилищі, ні в синагогах, ні в місті вони не знаходили мене як такого, що з ким-небудь сперечається або викликає розбрат у народі,	and neither in the temple did they find me disputing with any man or stirring up a crowd, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city.

і не можуть довести того, в чому тепер звинувачують мене.	Neither can they prove against me the things whereof they now accuse me.

Але признаюся тобі в тому, що, згідно вченню, яке вони називають єрессю, я дійсно служу Богові отців моїх і вірую всьому, що написано в Законі і Пророках,	But this I confess unto thee, that after the Way which they call a sect, so serve I the God of our fathers, believing all things which are written throughout the law and in the prophets;

маючи надію на Бога, що буде воскресіння мертвих, праведників і грішників, чого і самі вони сподіваються.	having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

Тому і сам дбаю я завжди мати непорочну совість перед Богом і людьми.	And herein do I exercise myself, having a conscience void of offense toward God and men always.

По багатьох роках я прийшов, шоб доставити моєму народові милостиню і приношення.	Now after some years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings:

При тому знайшли мене очищеним у храмі, не з народом і не з галасом.	amidst which certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, with no crowd, nor yet with tumult,

Це були деякі асійські юдеї, котрим належало б стати перед тобою і звинувачувати мене, коли щось мають проти мене.	who ought to be here before thee, and to make accusation, if they have aught against me.
20	20
Або самі ті нехай скажуть, яку знайшли вони в мені неправду, коли я стояв перед синедріоном,	Or else let these men themselves say what wrongdoing they found in me when I stood before the council,
21	21
хіба тільки одне те слово, яке голосно промовив я, стоячи поміж ними, що за вчення про воскресіння мертвих я нині приймаю суд від вас».	except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.

Вислухавши це, Фелікс відклав їхню справу і сказав: «Розгляну вашу справу, коли прийде тисяцький Лісій і я докладніше довідаюсь про це вчення».	And when Felix heard these things, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, he deferred them, saying, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will determine your matter.

And he gave order to the centurion that Paul should be kept in charge, and should have indulgence; and not to forbid any of his friends to minister or come unto him.

Через кілька днів Фелікс, прийшовши з Друзіллою, дружиною своєю, юдеянкою, покликав Павла і слухав його про віру в Христа Ісуса.	But after certain days, Felix came with Drusilla, his wife, who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

І коли він говорив про правду, про стриманість і про майбутній суд, то Фелікс пройнявся страхом і відповів: «Тепер іди, а коли знайду час, покличу тебе».	And as he reasoned of righteousness, and self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, Go thy way for this time; and when I have a convenient season, I will call thee unto me.

До того ж він сподівався, що Павло дасть йому грошей, щоб відпустити його: тому часто кликав його і розмовляв з ним.	He hoped withal that money would be given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore also he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.

Коли минуло два роки, місце Фелікса посів Порцій Фест. Бажаючи догодити юдеям, Фелікс залишив Павла в кайданах.	But when two years were fulfilled, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus; and desiring to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in bonds.
Глава 25	Chapter 25

Фест, прибувши в область, через три дні вирушив із Кесарії до Єрусалима.	Festus therefore, having come into the province, after three days went up to Jerusalem from Caesarea.

Тоді первосвященик і знатніші з юдеїв прийшли до нього зі скаргою на Павла і переконували його,	And the high priest and the principal men of the Jews informed him against Paul; and they besought him,

прохаючи, щоб він зробив милість і викликав його до Єрусалима, маючи задум убити його по дорозі.	asking a favor against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem; laying a plot to kill him on the way.

Але Фест відповів, що Павло утримується в Кесарії під вартою і що він сам скоро вирушить туди.	Howbeit Festus answered, that Paul was kept in charge in Caesarea, and that he himself was about to depart thither shortly.

«Отже, — сказав він, — ті з вас, які можуть, нехай підуть зі мною, і якщо за цим чоловіком щось є, нехай звинувачують його».	Let them therefore that are of power among you, saith he, go down with me, and if there is any wickedness in this man, let them accuse him.

Пробувши в них не більше восьми чи десяти днів, повернувся до Кесарії і на другий день, сівши на судищі, звелів привести Павла.	And when he had tarried among them more than ten days, he went down unto Caesarea; and on the morrow he sat on the judgment seat, and commanded Paul to be brought.

Коли він з’явився, стали довкола юдеї, що прийшли з Єрусалима, зводячи на Павла багато тяжких провин, яких не могли довести.	And when he was come, the Jews that had come down from Jerusalem stood round about, bringing many and grievous charges against Paul, which they could not prove;

Він же на своє виправдання сказав: «Я не зробив ніякого злочину ні проти закону юдейського, ні проти храму, ні проти кесаря».	while he said in his defense, Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar, have I sinned at all.

Фест, бажаючи догодити юдеям, у відповідь сказав Павлові: «Чи хочеш іти в Єрусалим, щоб я там судив тебе за це?»	But Festus, desiring to gain favor with the Jews, answered Paul and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?

Павло сказав: «Я стою перед судом кесаревим, де і належить мені судимому бути. Юдеїв я нічим не кривдив, як і ти добре знаєш.	But Paul said, I am standing before Caesar’s judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou also very well knowest.

Якщо я неправий і що-небудь зробив, варте смерти, то не відмовляюся померти; а якщо нічого того немає, в чому ці звинувачують мене, то ніхто не може видати мене їм. Вимагаю суду кесаревого».	For if I am a wrongdoer, and have committed anything worthy of death, I refuse not to die; but if none of those things is true whereof these accuse me, no man can give me up unto them. I appeal unto Caesar.

Тоді Фест, поговоривши з радниками, відповів: «Ти вимагав кесаревого суду, до кесаря і підеш».	Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Thou hast appealed unto Caesar: unto Caesar shalt thou go.

Через декілька днів цар Агриппа і Вереніка прибули до Кесарії поздоровити Феста.	Now when certain days were passed, Agrippa the king and Bernice arrived at Caesarea to salute Festus.

І як вони пробули там багато днів, то Фест розповів цареві про Павла, кажучи: «Є тут якийсь чоловік, в’язень, залишений Феліксом у кайданах,	And as he tarried there many days, Festus laid Paul’s case before the king, saying, There is a certain man left a prisoner by Felix;

на якого, під час мого перебування в Єрусалимі, з’явилися із скаргою первосвященики і старійшини юдейські, вимагаючи суду над ним.	about whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, asking for judgment against him.

Я відповів їм, що у римлян немає звичаю видавати на смерть будь-якого чоловіка, перше ніж звинувачуваний не матиме перед собою обвинувачів і не дістане право захищатися проти звинувачення.	To whom I answered, that it is not the custom of the Romans to give up any man to destruction, before that the accused have the accusers face to face, and have had opportunity to make his defense concerning the matter laid against him.

Коли ж вони тут зійшлися, то, без усякого зволікання, на другий же день, я сів на судищі і звелів привести того чоловіка.	When therefore they were come together here, I made no delay, but on the next day sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought.

Обступивши його, обвинувачі не подали жодного із звинувачень, які я припускав;	Concerning whom, when the accusers stood up, they brought against him no charge of such things as I supposed;
19	19
але вони мали з ним деякі суперечки про богошанування їхнє і про якогось Ісуса померлого, про Якого Павло стверджував, що Він живий.	but had certain questions against him of their own religion, and of one Jesus, who was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.

Вагаючись у вирішенні цього питання, я сказав: чи хоче він іти до Єрусалима і там стати перед судом за це?	And I, being perplexed how to inquire concerning this, asked whether he would go to Jerusalem and there be judged of these matters.

Та коли Павло зажадав, щоб його залишили на розгляд Августа, то я звелів тримати його під вартою до того часу, поки пошлю його до кесаря».	But when Paul had appealed to be kept for the decision of the emperor, I commanded him to be kept till I should send him to Caesar.

Агриппа ж сказав Фестові: «Хотів би і я послухати цього чоловіка». Той відповів: «Завтра ж почуєш його».	And Agrippa said unto Festus, I also could wish to hear the man myself. And he saith, Tomorrow thou shalt hear him.

Другого дня, коли Агриппа і Вереніка прийшли з великою пихою і увійшли у судову палату з тисяцькими та найзнатнішими громадянами міста, за наказом Феста був приведений Павло.	So on the morrow, when Agrippa was come, and Bernice, with great pomp, and they were entered into the place of hearing, with the chief captains also, and they that were the principal men of the city, at the command of Festus Paul was brought in.

І сказав Фест: «Царю Агриппо і всі присутні з нами мужі! Ви бачите того, проти якого багато юдеїв приступили до мене в Єрусалимі і тут і кричали, що йому не належить більше жити.	And Festus saith, King Agrippa, and all men who are here present with us, ye behold this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews made suit to me, both at Jerusalem and here, crying out that he ought not to live any longer.

Але я зрозумів, що він не вчинив нічого, вартого смерти; і як він сам вимагав суду в Августа, то я вирішив послати його до нього.	But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and as even he himself appealed to the emperor I determined to send him.

Я не маю нічого певного написати про нього його величності; а тому і привів його до вас, і зокрема перед тебе, царю Агриппо, щоб після розгляду було мені що написати.	Of whom I have no certain thing to write unto my lord. Wherefore I have brought him forth before you, and especially before thee, king Agrippa, that, after examination had, I may have somewhat to write.

Бо мені здається нерозважливим посилати в’язня і не визначити звинувачень на нього».	For it seemeth to me unreasonable, in sending a prisoner, not withal to signify the charges against him.
Глава 26	Chapter 26

1	1
Агриппа сказав Павлові: «Дозволяється тобі говорити за себе». Тоді Павло, простягнувши руку, почав говорити на свій захист.	And Agrippa said unto Paul, Thou art permitted to speak for thyself. Then Paul stretched forth his hand, and made his defense:

«Царю Агриппо! Я почуваю себе щасливим, що сьогодні можу захищатися перед тобою в усьому, в чому звинувачують мене юдеї,	I think myself happy, king Agrippa, that I am to make my defense before thee this day touching all the things whereof I am accused by the Jews:

тим більше, що ти знаєш усі юдейські звичаї і суперечності. Тому прошу тебе вислухати мене великодушно.	especially because thou art expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews: wherefore I beseech thee to hear me patiently.

Життя моє від юности моєї, яке спочатку проводив я серед народу мого в Єрусалимі, знають усі юдеї;	My manner of life then from my youth up, which was from the beginning among mine own nation in Jerusalem, know all the Jews;
5	5
вони здавна знають про мене, якщо захочуть свідчити, що я жив, як фарисей, за найсуворішим у нашому віросповіданні вченням.	having knowledge of me from the first, if they be willing to testify, that after the straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.

І нині я стою перед судом за надію на обітницю, дану Богом нашим отцям,	And now I stand here to be judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto the fathers;

здійснення якої сподіваються побачити наші дванадцять колін, що старанно служать Богові день і ніч. За цю-то надію, царю Агриппо, звинувачують мене юдеї.	unto which promise our twelve tribes, earnestly serving God night and day, hope to attain. And concerning this hope I am accused, King Agrippa, by the Jews.

Що ж? Hевже ви вважаєте неймовірним, що Бог воскрешає мертвих?	Why is it judged incredible with you, if God doth raise the dead?

Щоправда, і я думав, що мені належить багато діяти проти імені Ісуса Hазорея.	I verily thought with myself that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

Це я і робив у Єрусалимі: одержавши владу від первосвящеників, я багатьох святих ув’язнював, і коли вбивали їх, я подавав на те голос;	And this I also did in Jerusalem: and I shut up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests, and when they were put to death I gave my vote against them.

і по всіх синагогах я багаторазово мучив їх, і примушував ганити Ісуса, і, з надмірною лютістю до них, переслідував їх навіть у чужих містах.	And punishing them oftentimes in all the synagogues, I strove to make them blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto foreign cities.

Для цього йдучи до Дамаска з владою і дорученням від первосвящеників,	Whereupon also, as I journeyed to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests,

серед дня на дорозі я, царю, побачив з неба світло, ясніше від сонячного сяйва, що осяяло мене та тих, котрі йшли зі мною.	at midday, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them that journeyed with me.

Усі ми попадали на землю, і я почув голос, що говорив до мене єврейською мовою: «Савле, Савле, що ти гониш Мене? Важко тобі йти проти рожна».	And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew language, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the goad.

Я сказав: «Хто Ти, Господи?» Він сказав: «Я — Ісус, Якого ти гониш.	And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.

Але встань і стань на ноги твої; бо для того Я і з’явився тобі, щоб зробити тебе служителем і свідком того, що ти бачив і що Я відкриваю тобі,	But arise, and stand upon thy feet: for to this end have I appeared unto thee, to appoint thee a minister and a witness both of the things which thou hast seen, and of the things wherein I will appear unto thee;

визволяючи тебе від народу юдейського і від язичників, до яких Я тепер посилаю тебе	delivering thee from the people, and the Gentiles, unto whom I send thee,
18	18
розкрити очі їм, щоб вони навернулися від темряви до світла і з-під влади сатани до Бога, щоб вірою в Мене держали прощення гріхів і долю з освяченими».	to open their eyes, that they may turn away from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among them that are sanctified by faith in me.

Тому, царю Агриппо, я не став противитися небесному видінню,	Wherefore, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:
20	20
а спершу жителям Дамаска і Єрусалима, потім усій землі юдейській і язичникам проповідував, щоб вони покаялися і навернулися до Бога, чинячи діла, достойні покаяння.	but have been declaring to them of Damascus first, and at Jerusalem, and to all the country of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance.

За це юдеї схопили мене у храмі і хотіли розтерзати.	For this cause the Jews seized me in the temple, and assayed to kill me.
22	22
Але, одержавши допомогу від Бога, я до цього дня стою і свідчу малому і великому, нічого не кажучи, крім того, про що пророки і Мойсей говорили, що це буде,	Having therefore obtained the help that is from God, I stand unto this day testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses did say should come;

а саме, що Христос мав постраждати і, воскреснувши першим із мертвих, проповідати світло юдейському народові і язичникам».	how that the Christ must suffer, and how that he first by the resurrection of the dead should proclaim light to the people and to the Gentiles.

Коли він так захищався, Фест гучним голосом сказав: «Безумствуєш ти, Павле! Велика вченість доводить тебе до божевілля».	And as he thus made his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art mad; thy much learning is turning thee mad.

«Hі, високоповажний Фесте, — сказав він, — я не безумствую, але кажу слова істини і здорового глузду.	But he saith, I am not mad, most excellent Festus; but speak forth words of truth and soberness.

Бо знає про це цар, перед яким і кажу сміливо. Я не вірю, що від нього було щось з цього приховано: бо це не в кутку відбувалося.	For the king knoweth of these things, unto whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things is hidden from him; for this hath not been done in a corner.

Чи віриш, царю Агриппо, пророкам? Знаю, що віриш».	King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest.

Агриппа сказав Павлові: «Ти майже переконуєш мене стати християнином».	And Agrippa said unto Paul, In a little time thou persuadest me to become a Christian!

Павло сказав: «Благав би я Бога, щоб мало чи багато, не тільки ти, але й усі, що слухають мене сьогодні, зробились такими, як я, окрім цих кайданів».	And Paul said, I would to God, that whether in a little time or in much, not thou only, but also all that hear me this day, might become such as I am, except these bonds.

І коли він це сказав, цар і правитель, Вереніка і всі, що сиділи з ними, встали.	And when he had spoken these things, the king rose up, and the governor, and Bernice, and they that sat with them:

І, відійшовши вбік, говорили між собою, що цей чоловік нічого, вартого смерті чи кайданів, не робить.	and when they had withdrawn, they spake one to another, saying, This man doeth nothing worthy of death or of bonds.

І сказав Агриппа Фестові: «Можна було б звільнити цього чоловіка, якби він не вимагав кесаревого суду». Тому і вирішив правитель відіслати його до кесаря.	And Agrippa said unto Festus, This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed unto Caesar.
Глава 27	Chapter 27

Коли вирішено було відпливти нам до Італії, то віддали Павла і деяких інших в’язнів сотникові Августового полку на ім’я Юлій.	And when it was determined that we should sail for Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners to a centurion named Julius, of the Augustan band.

Ми піднялися на адрамітський корабель‚ що мав пливти поблизу асійських місць‚ вирушили. З нами перебував Аристарх, македонянин із Фессалоніки.	And embarking in a ship of Adramyttium, we, being about to sail by the places on the coast of Asia, put to sea, Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.

Другого дня пристали до Сидона. Юлій поводився з Павлом людинолюбно, дозволив йому відвідати друзів і скористатися їхньою допомогою.	And the next day we touched at Sidon: and Julius treated Paul kindly, and gave him leave to go unto his friends and refresh himself.

Вирушивши звідти, ми припливли до Кіпру, бо був супротивний вітер,	And putting to sea from thence, we sailed under the lee of Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.

і, перепливши море проти Киликії та Памфілії, прибули до Мир Лікійських.	And when we had sailed across the sea which is off Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia.

Там сотник знайшов олександрійський корабель, що плив до Італії, і посадив нас на нього.	And there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing for Italy; and he put us therein.

Повільно плаваючи багато днів і ледве порівнявшись з Кнідом, через несприятливий нам вітер, ми підпливли до Криту при Салмоні.	And when we had sailed slowly many days, and were come with difficulty over against Cnidus, the wind not further suffering us, we sailed under the lee of Crete, over against Salmone;

Ледве пробравшись повз нього, прибули до одного місця, що зветься Добрі Пристані, поблизу міста Ласея.	and with difficulty coasting along it we came unto a certain place called Fair Havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea.

А як минуло багато часу, і плавання було вже небезпечне, тому що і піст уже минув, то Павло радив,	And when much time was spent, and the voyage was now dangerous, because the Fast was now already gone by, Paul admonished them,

кажучи їм: «Мужі! Я бачу, що плавання буде з труднощами і з великою шкодою не тільки для вантажу і корабля, але й для нашого життя».	and said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that the voyage will be with injury and much loss, not only of the lading and the ship, but also of our lives.

Однак сотник більше довіряв керманичеві і начальникові корабля, ніж словам Павла.	But the centurion gave more heed to the master and to the owner of the ship, than to those things which were spoken by Paul.

А що пристань була непридатна до зимівлі, то чимало людей радили податися звідти, щоб, якщо можливо, дійти до Фініка, пристані критської, що лежить проти південно-західного і північно-західного вітру, і там перезимувати.	And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to put to sea from thence also, if by any means they could reach Phoenix, and winter there; which is a haven of Crete, looking northeast and southeast.

Подув південний вітер, і вони, думаючи, що вже дістали бажане, вирушили і попливли поблизу Криту.	And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, they weighed anchor and sailed along Crete, close in shore.

Але невдовзі знявся супротивний йому бурхливий вітер, що зветься «евроклідон».	But after no long time there beat down from it a tempestuous wind, which is called Euroclydon:

Корабель схопило так, що він не міг чинити опір вітрові, і ми носилися, віддавшись хвилям.	and when the ship was caught, and could not face the wind, we gave way to it, and were driven.

І, наскочивши на якийсь острівець, що зветься Клавдій, ми ледве могли втримати човен.	And running under the lee of a small island called Clauda, we were able, with difficulty, to secure the boat:

Піднявши його, почали всіма засобами обв’язувати корабель; боячись, щоб не сісти на мілину, спустили вітрило і таким чином носилися.	and when they had hoisted it up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should be cast upon the Syrtes, they lowered the gear, and so were driven.

Ранком другого дня, коли розпочався буревій, почали викидати вантаж,	And as we labored exceedingly with the storm, the next day they began to throw the freight overboard;

а на третій день ми своїми руками повикидали корабельне знаряддя.	and the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.

Та оскільки багато днів не було видно ні сонця, ні зірок, і тривала велика буря, то, зрештою, зникала будь-яка надія на наше врятування.	And when neither sun nor stars shone upon us for many days, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was now taken away.

Що довго не їли, то Павло, ставши посеред них, сказав: «О мужі! Треба було послухати мене і не відходити від Криту, і тим самим уникнули б цих труднощів і шкоди.	Now when they had been long without food, then Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have set sail from Crete, and have gotten this injury and loss.
22	22
Тепер же благаю вас‚ підбадьортеся, бо жодна душа з вас не загине, а тільки корабель.	And now I exhort you to be of good cheer; for there shall be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.
23	23
Бо ангел Бога, Якому я належу і Якому служу, з’явився мені цієї ночі	For there stood by me this night an angel of the God whose I am, whom also I serve,
24	24
і сказав: «Hе бійся, Павле. Тобі належить стати перед кесарем, і ось Бог дарував тобі всіх, що пливуть з тобою».	saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must stand before Caesar: and lo, God hath granted thee all them that sail with thee.
25	25
Тому підбадьортеся, мужі, бо я вірю Богові, що буде так, як мені сказано.	Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even so as it hath been spoken unto me.
26	26
Hам належить бути викинутими на який-небудь острів».	But we must be cast upon a certain island.
27	27
Чотирнадцятої ночі, коли ми носилися в Адріатичному морі, близько опівночі корабельники почали здогадуватися, що наближаються до якоїсь землі,	But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven to and fro in the sea of Adria, about midnight the sailors surmised that they were drawing near to some country:

і, вимірявши глибину, знайшли двадцять сажнів; потім на невеликій відстані, знову вимірявши, знайшли п’ятнадцять сажнів.	and they sounded, and found twenty fathoms; and after a little space, they sounded again, and found fifteen fathoms.

Побоюючись, щоб не натрапити на кам’янисті місця, кинули з корми чотири якорі і чекали дня.	And fearing lest haply we should be cast ashore on rocky ground, they let go four anchors from the stern, and wished for the day.
30	30
Коли корабельники хотіли втекти з корабля і спускали на море човен, роблячи вигляд, ніби хочуть кинути якір з носа,	And as the sailors were seeking to flee out of the ship, and had lowered the boat into the sea, under color as though they would lay out anchors from the foreship,

Павло сказав сотникові і воїнам: «Якщо вони не залишаться на кораблі, то ви не зможете врятуватися».	Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.
32	32
Тоді воїни відтяли вірьовки у човна, і він упав.	Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off.
33	33
Коли почало світати, Павло умовляв усіх приймати їжу, кажучи: «Сьогодні чотирнадцятий день, як ви, чекаючи, перебуваєте без їжі, нічого не споживаючи.	And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take some food, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye wait and continue fasting, having taken nothing.

Тому прошу вас прийняти їжу: це сприятиме збереженню вашого життя; бо ні в кого з вас не впаде й волосина з голови».	Wherefore I beseech you to take some food: for this is for your safety: for there shall not a hair fall from the head of any of you.
35	35
Промовивши це і взявши хліб, він подякував Богові перед усіма і, розламавши, почав їсти.	And when he had said this, and had taken bread, he gave thanks to God in the presence of all; and he brake it, and began to eat.
36	36
Тоді всі підбадьорилися і також прийняли їжу.	Then were they all of good cheer, and themselves also took food.
37	37
Було ж усіх нас на кораблі двісті сімдесят шість душ.	And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.
38	38
Hаситившись їжею, почали полегшувати корабель, викидаючи пшеницю в море.	And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, throwing out the wheat into the sea.
39	39
Коли ж настав день, землі не розпізнавали, а побачили лише якусь затоку з пологим берегом, до якого вирішили, якщо можна, пристати кораблем.	And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they perceived a certain bay with a beach, into which they were minded, if possible, to run the ship ashore.
40	40
І, піднявши якорі, попливли по морю і, розв’язавши стерно та піднявши мале вітрило за вітром, тримали до берега.	And casting off the anchors, they left them in the sea, at the same time loosing the bands of the rudders; and hoisting up the foresail to the wind, they made for the beach.
41	41
Hаскочили на косу‚ і корабель сів на мілину. Hіс загруз і став нерухомим, а корма розбивалася силою хвиль.	But lighting upon a place where two seas met, they ran the vessel aground; and the foreship struck and remained unmoveable, but the stern began to break up by the violence of the waves.
42	42
Воїни було погодилися умертвити в’язнів, щоб хто-небудь, випливши, не втік.	And the soldiers’ counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape.
43	43
Але сотник, бажаючи врятувати Павла, утримав їх від цього наміру і звелів тим, що вміли плавати, першими кинутися і вийти на землю,	But the centurion, desiring to save Paul, stayed them from their purpose; and commanded that they who could swim should cast themselves overboard, and get first to the land;
44	44
іншим же — кому на дошках, а кому на будь-чому від корабля; і таким чином усі врятувалися на землю.	and the rest, some on planks, and some on other things from the ship. And so it came to pass, that they all escaped safe to the land.
Глава 28	Chapter 28

1	1
Урятувавшись, ті, що були з Павлом, дізналися, що острів зветься Меліт.	And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Malta.
2	2
Іноплемінники виявили до нас велике милосердя: вони розклали вогнище і прийняли всіх нас‚ бо йшов дощ і було зимно.	And the barbarians showed us no common kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us all, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.
3	3
Коли ж Павло набрав багато хмизу і поклав на вогонь, [тодi] єхидна, вилізши з жару, повисла у нього на руці.	But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out by reason of the heat, and fastened on his hand.
4	4
Іноплемінники, побачивши змію, звислу в нього на руці, говорили один одному: «Певне, цей чоловік — убивця, коли його, врятованого від моря, суд Божий не залишає жити».	And when the barbarians saw the venomous creature hanging from his hand, they said one to another, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped from the sea, yet Justice hath not suffered to live.

Але він, струсивши змію у вогонь, не зазнав ніякої шкоди.	Howbeit he shook off the creature into the fire, and took no harm.
6	6
Вони ж чекали, що в нього буде запалення або він раптово впаде мертвим; але, довго чекаючи і побачивши, що з ним ніякої біди не сталося, змінили думку і говорили, що він Бог.	But they expected that he would have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but when they were long in expectation and beheld nothing amiss come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

Біля того місця були маєтки начальника острова на ім’я Поплій; він прийняв нас і три дні люб’язно пригощав.	Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the chief man of the island, named Publius; who received us, and entertained us three days courteously.

Батько Поплія лежав одержимий гарячкою і болем у животі. Павло увійшов до нього, помолився і, поклавши на нього свої руки, зцілив його.	And it was so, that the father of Publius lay sick of fever and dysentery: unto whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laying his hands on him healed him.

Після цієї події інші на острові, що мали недуги, приходили і зцілялися,	When this therefore was done, the rest also that had diseases in the island came, and were cured:

і віддавали нам велику шану, а при від’їзді наділили нас усім потрібним.	who also honored us with many honors; and when we sailed, they put on board such things as we needed.
11	11
Через три місяці ми відпливли на олександрійському кораблі, який називався «Діоскури» і зимував на цьому островi;	And after three months we set sail in a ship of Alexandria which had wintered in the island, whose sign was The Twin Brothers.

і, припливши до Сиракуз, пробули там три дні.	And touching at Syracuse, we tarried there three days.
13	13
Звідти відпливши, прибули в Ригію; а коли через день повіяв південний вітер, прибули на другий день у Путеоли,	And from thence we made a circuit, and arrived at Rhegium: and after one day a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli;

де знайшли братів і були запрошені пробути в них днів сім, а потім пішли у Рим.	where we found brethren, and were entreated to tarry with them seven days: and so we came to Rome.
15	15
Тамтешні браття, почувши про нас, вийшли нам назустріч до Аппієвої площі і Трьох гостиниць. Побачивши їх, Павло дякував Богові і пожвавішав.	And from thence the brethren, when they heard of us, came forth to meet us as far as The Market of Appius and The Three Taverns; whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.
16	16
Коли ж ми прийшли до Рима, то сотник передав в’язнів воєначальникові, а Павлові повелів жити окремо — з воїном, що стеріг його.	And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the chief of the camp: but Paul was suffered to abide by himself with the soldier that guarded him.

Через три дні Павло скликав найзнатніших з юдеїв і, коли вони зійшлися, говорив до них: «Мужі-браття! Hе зробивши нічого проти народу або батьківських звичаїв, я в кайданах із Єрусалима переданий до рук римлян.	And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called together those that were the chief of the Jews: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Brethren, though I had done nothing against the people, or the customs of our fathers, yet was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans:

Вони, судивши мене, хотіли звільнити, тому що немає на мені ніякої провини, вартої смерти;	who, when they had examined me, desired to set me at liberty, because there was no cause of death in me.
19	19
але тому, що юдеї заперечували, я змушений був вимагати суду в кесаря, проте не для того, щоб звинувачувати в чомусь мій народ.	But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had aught whereof to accuse my nation.
20	20
З цієї причини я і покликав вас, щоб побачитись і поговорити з вами, бо за надію Ізраїлеву обкутий я цими кайданами».	For this cause therefore did I entreat you to see and to speak with me: for because of the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.
21	21
Вони ж сказали йому: «Ми ані листів не одержували про тебе з Юдеї, ані з братів, що приходили, ніхто не сповістив про тебе і не сказав чогось лихого.	And they said unto him, We neither received letters from Judea concerning thee, nor did any of the brethren come hither and report or speak any harm of thee.
22	22
А втім, хотіли б ми почути від тебе, як ти міркуєш; бо нам відомо, що про це вчення скрізь сперечаються».	But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against.
23	23
І, призначивши йому день, дуже багато прийшли до нього в гостиницю; і він з ранку до вечора викладав їм вчення про Царство Боже, наводячи свідчення і переконуючи їх про Ісуса із Закону Мойсеєвого і Пророків.	And when they had appointed him a day, they came to him into his lodging in great number; to whom he expounded the matter, testifying the kingdom of God, and persuading them of the things concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses and from the prophets, from morning till evening.

Одні з них вірили його словам, а інші не вірили.	And some believed the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved.
25	25
Ті, що були незгідні між собою, виходили, коли Павло сказав такі слова: «Добре Дух Святий сказав отцям нашим через пророка Ісаю:	And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Spirit through Isaiah the prophet unto our fathers,

«Піди до цього народу і скажи: «Слухом почуєте і не зрозумієте, і очима дивитися будете і не побачите».	saying, Go thou unto this people, and say, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand; And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive:
27	27
Бо згрубіло серце людей цих, і вухами ледве чують, і очі свої заплющили, щоб не бачити очима, і не чути вухами, і не зрозуміти серцем, і не навернутися, щоб Я зцілив їх».	For this people’s heart is waxed gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their eyes they have closed; Lest haply they should perceive with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And should turn again, And I would heal them.
28	28
Отже, нехай буде вам відомо, що спасіння Боже послане язичникам: вони і почують».	Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles: they will also hear.
29	29
Коли він сказав це, юдеї пішли, довго сперечаючись між собою.	And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, having much disputing among themselves.
30	30
І жив Павло цілих два роки на своєму утриманні і приймав усіх, хто приходив до нього,	And Paul abode two whole years in his own hired dwelling, and received all that went in unto him,
31	31
проповідуючи Царство Боже і навчаючи про Господа Ісуса Христа з усякою відвагою безборонно.	preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness, none forbidding him.
