Глава 1	Chapter 1

Яків, раб Бога і Господа Ісуса Христа, дванадцятьом колінам, що в розсіянні, — радуйтеся.	James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are of the Dispersion, greeting.
2	2
З великою радістю приймайте, браття мої, коли підпадаєте різним спокусам,	Count it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into manifold temptations;
3	3
знаючи, що випробування вашої віри дає терпіння;	knowing that the proving of your faith worketh patience.
4	4
терпіння ж повинно мати досконалу дію, щоб ви були досконалі в усій повноті без усякого недоліку.	And let patience have its perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, lacking in nothing.
5	5
Якщо ж у кого з вас не вистачає мудрости, нехай просить у Бога, Який дає всім просто й без докорів, — і дасться йому.	But if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Але нехай просить з вірою, нітрохи не сумніваючись, бо той, хто сумнівається, подібний до морської хвилі, яку вітер здіймає і розвіває.	But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting: for he that doubteth is like the surge of the sea driven by the wind and tossed.

Hехай не думає така людина одержати що-небудь від Господа.	For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord;

Двоєдушна людина нестійка на всіх шляхах своїх.	a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Hехай хвалиться брат смиренний своєю висотою,	But let the brother of low degree glory in his high estate:
10	10
а багатий — смиренням своїм, бо він перейде, як цвіт трав’яний.	and the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
11	11
Сходить сонце, настає спека, і спекою висушує траву; цвіт її опадає, зникає краса її вигляду, так в’яне і багатий на своїх шляхах.	For the sun ariseth with the scorching wind, and withereth the grass; and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his goings.

Блаженна людина, яка переносить спокуси, бо, будучи випробуваною, вона одержить вінець життя, який обіцяв Господь тим, що люблять Його.	Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to them that love him.

У спокусі ніхто не кажи: «Бог мене спокушає»; бо Бог не спокушається злом і Сам не спокушає нікого,	Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempteth no man:

але кожен спокушається, захоплюючись і зваблюючись власною похіттю;	but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.
15	15
похіть же, зачавши, породжує гріх, а вчинений гріх породжує смерть.	Then the lust, when it hath conceived, beareth sin: and the sin, when it is full-grown, bringeth forth death.
16	16
Hе обманюйтесь, браття мої улюблені.	Be not deceived, my beloved brethren.
17	17
Всяке добре даяння і всякий досконалий дар сходять зверху, від Отця світів, у Якого немає зміни і ні тіні переміни.	Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, neither shadow that is cast by turning.
18	18
Захотівши, Він породив нас словом істини, щоб нам бути якимсь початком Його створінь.	Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
19	19
Отож, браття мої улюблені, кожна людина нехай буде скорою на слухання, повільною на слова, повільною на гнів,	Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20	20
бо гнів людини не творить правди Божої.	for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21	21
Тому, відкинувши всяку нечистоту і залишок злоби, з лагідністю прийміть насаджене слово, яке може спасти ваші душі.	Wherefore putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
22	22
Будьте ж виконавцями слова, а не тільки слухачами, які самих себе обманюють.	But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves.

Бо хто слухає слово і не виконує, той подібний до людини, яка розглядає природні риси свого обличчя у дзеркалі:	For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror:
24	24
вона подивилась на себе, відійшла і відразу ж забула, яка вона.	for he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and straightaway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25	25
Але хто вникне в закон довершений, в закон свободи, і перебуватиме в ньому, той, будучи не слухачем, який забуває, а виконавцем діла, блаженний буде у своїй діяльності.	But he that looketh into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and so continueth, he being not a hearer that forgetteth but a doer that worketh, this man shall be blessed in his doing.

Коли хто з вас гадає, що він побожний і не приборкує свого язика, але спокушає своє серце, то побожність у того пуста.	If any man among you thinketh himself to be religious, while he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his heart, this man’s religion is vain.
27	27
Чиста і непорочна побожність перед Богом і Отцем є в тому, щоб піклуватися про сиріт і вдів у їхніх скорботах і берегти себе неоскверненим від світу.	Pure religion and undefiled before God, even the Father, is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
Глава 2	Chapter 2

1	1
Браття мої, майте віру в Ісуса Христа, нашого Господа слави, не зважаючи на особи.	My brethren, hold not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.
2	2
Бо, якщо у зібрання ваше ввійде людина із золотим перснем, у багатому одязі, увійде ж і бідний у драному одязі,	For if there come into your synagogue a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, and there come in also a poor man in vile clothing;
3	3
і ви, дивлячись на одягненого у багатий одяг, скажете йому: «Тобі добре сісти тут», а бідному скажете: «Ти стань там або сідай тут, біля моїх ніг»‚ —	and ye have regard to him that weareth the fine clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and ye say to the poor man, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool;

то чи не поділилися ви в собі і чи не стаєте суддями з недобрими думками?	do ye not then make distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?

Послухайте, браття мої улюблені: хіба не бідних обрав Бог бути багатими вірою і спадкоємцями Царства, яке Він обіцяв тим, що люблять Його?	Hearken, my beloved brethren; did not God choose them that are poor of the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to them that love him?

А ви зневажили бідного. Хіба не багаті утискують вас і хіба не вони тягнуть вас на суди?	But ye have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you, and themselves drag you before the judgment seats?
7	7
Хіба не вони зневажають те добре ім’я, яким ви називаєтесь?	Do not they blaspheme the honorable name by which ye are called?
8	8
Коли ви виконуєте закон царський за Писанням: люби ближнього твого, як самого себе, — добре робите.	Howbeit if ye fulfill the royal law, according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well:
9	9
А коли робите, дивлячись на особу, то гріх чините, і перед законом виявляєтеся злочинцями.	but if ye have respect of persons, ye commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.
10	10
Хто дотримується всього закону і зогрішить у чому-небудь одному, той стає винуватим у всьому.	For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is become guilty of all.
11	11
Бо Той же, Хто сказав: «Hе перелюбствуй», сказав і: «Hе убий»; тому, якщо ти не перелюбствуєш, але уб’єш, то ти також злочинець перед законом.	For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou dost not commit adultery, but killest, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

Так говоріть і так робіть, як такi‚ що мають бути суджені за законом свободи.	So speak ye, and so do, as men that are to be judged by a law of liberty.
13	13
Бо немилостивий суд тому, хто не творив милости; милість же підноситься над судом.	For judgment is without mercy to him that hath shown no mercy: mercy glorieth against judgment.
14	14
Яка користь, браття мої, коли хто говорить, що він має віру, а діл не має? Чи може ця віра спасти його?	What doth it profit, my brethren, if a man say he hath faith, but have not works? can that faith save him?
15	15
Якщо брат або сестра нагі і не мають денного прожитку,	Now if a brother or sister be naked and be in lack of daily food,
16	16
а хто-небудь з вас скаже їм: «Йдіть із миром, грійтесь і їжте», — але не дасть їм потрібного для тіла, яка користь?	and one of you say unto them, Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled; and yet ye give them not the things needful to the body; what doth it profit?
17	17
Так само й віра — коли не має діл, сама по собі мертва.	Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself.
18	18
Але скаже хто-небудь: «Ти маєш віру, а я маю діла; покажи мені віру твою без діл твоїх, а я покажу тобі віру мою в ділах моїх».	Yea, a man will say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith by thy works, and I by my works will show thee my faith.
19	19
Ти віруєш, що Бог єдиний: добре робиш; та й біси вірують і тремтять.	Thou believest that God is one; thou doest well: the demons also believe, and shudder.
20	20
Але чи хочеш ти знати, легковажна людино, що віра без діл мертва?	But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is dead?
21	21
Хіба не ділами виправдався Авраам, отець наш, поклавши на жертовник сина свого Ісаака?	Was not Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son upon the altar?
22	22
Чи бачиш, що віра сприяла ділам його, і ділами віра досягла довершености?	Seest thou that faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
23	23
І справдилося слово Писання: «Вірував Авраам Богові, і це було поставлено йому в праведність, і його назвали другом Божим».	And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness; and he was called the friend of God.
24	24
Чи бачите, що людина виправдовується ділами, а не тільки вірою?	Ye see then that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith.
25	25
Так само і блудниця Раава хіба не ділами виправдалася, прийнявши підглядачів і вивівши їх іншою дорогою?	And in like manner was not also Rahab the harlot justified by works, in that she received the messengers, and sent them out another way?
26	26
Бо як тіло без духу мертве, так і віра без діл мертва.	For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.
Глава 3	Chapter 3

1	1
Браття мої, не багато хто ставайте учителями, знаючи, що ми підпадемо під більший осуд,	Be not many of you teachers, my brethren, knowing that we shall receive heavier judgment.
2	2
бо всі ми багато грішимо. Хто не грішить словом, той досконала людина, яка може приборкати і все тіло.	For in many things we all stumble. If any stumbleth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also.
3	3
Ось ми вкладаємо вуздечки в рот коням, щоб вони слухались нас, і керуємо всім тілом їхнім.	Behold, we put the horses’ bridles into their mouths that they may obey us; we turn about their whole body also.
4	4
Ось і кораблі, хоч які вони великі і як не носяться сильними вітрами, та невеликим кермом спрямовуються, куди хоче керманич;	Behold, the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by rough winds, are yet turned about by a very small rudder, whithersoever the impulse of the steersman may will.
5	5
так само і язик — невеликий член, але багато чинить. Подивись, невеликий вогонь‚ а як багато речей спалює!	So the tongue also is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how much wood a little fire kindleth!
6	6
І язик — вогонь, прикраса неправди; язик поставлений так між нашими членами, що сквернить усе тіло і запалює круг життя, будучи сам запалюваний від геєни.	And the tongue is a fire, the world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, which defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of nature, and is set on fire by hell.

Бо всяке єство звірів і птахів, плазунів і морських тварин приборкується і приборкане людським єством,	For every kind of beasts and birds, of creeping things and things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed by mankind:
8	8
а язика приборкати ніхто з людей не може: це — невтримне зло; він повний отрути смертоносної.	but the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, it is full of deadly poison.
9	9
Hим благословляємо Бога і Отця, і ним же проклинаємо людей, створених за подобою Божою.	Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, who are made after the likeness of God:
10	10
З тих самих уст виходить благословення і прокляття: не повинно, браття мої, щоб це так було.	out of the same mouth cometh forth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
11	11
Хіба з одного джерела тече солодка і гірка вода?	Doth the fountain send forth from the same opening sweet water and bitter?
12	12
Hе може, браття мої, смоковниця родити маслини або виноградна лоза — смокви. Також і з одного джерела не може виливатися солона і солодка вода.	can a fig tree, my brethren, yield olives, or a vine figs? so can no fountain yield salt water and sweet.
13	13
Хто мудрий і розумний між вами? Доведи це на ділі добрим поводженням з мудрою лагідністю.	Who is wise and understanding among you? let him show by his good life his works in meekness of wisdom.
14	14
Але якщо у вашому серці ви маєте гірку заздрість і сварливість, то не хваліться і не говоріть неправди проти істини.	But if ye have bitter jealousy and faction in your heart, glory not and lie not against the truth.
15	15
Це не та мудрість, яка сходить зверху, але земна, душевна, бісівська,	This wisdom is not a wisdom that cometh down from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
16	16
бо де заздрість і сварливість, там безладдя і все лихе.	For where jealousy and faction are, there is confusion and every vile deed.
17	17
А мудрість, яка сходить зверху, по-перше, чиста, потім мирна, лагідна, покірлива, повна милосердя і плодів благих, неупереджена і нелицемірна.	But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without variance, and without hypocrisy.
18	18
Плід же правди сіється у світі тими, які зберігають мир.	And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for them that make peace.
Глава 4	Chapter 4

1	1
Звідкіль у вас ворожнеча і чвари? Чи не звідси, від пристрастей ваших, що воюють у членах ваших?	Whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your pleasures that war in your members?
2	2
Жадаєте і не маєте; вбиваєте і заздрите‚ і не можете досягти? Сваритесь і ворогуєте — і не маєте, бо не просите,	Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and covet, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war; ye have not, because ye ask not.
3	3
просите — і не одержуєте, тому що просите не на добре, а щоб ужити для пристрастей ваших.	Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may spend it in your pleasures.
4	4
Перелюбники і перелюбниці! Чи не знаєте, що дружба зі світом є ворожнеча проти Бога? Бо хто хоче бути другом світові, той стає ворогом Богові.	Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore would be a friend of the world maketh himself an enemy of God.
5	5
Чи ви думаєте, що даремно Писання говорить: «Ревнощів жадає дух, який вселився в нас»?	Or think ye that the scripture speaketh in vain? The spirit which dwelt in us longeth unto envying.
6	6
Але тим більшу дає благодать; тому й сказано: «Бог гордим противиться, а смиренним дає благодать».	But he giveth more grace. Wherefore the scripture saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.
7	7
Отже, покоріться Боговi; противтеся дияволові, і він утече від вас.	Be subject therefore unto God; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8	8
Hаблизьтеся до Бога, і наблизиться до вас; очистіть руки, грішники, виправте серця, двоєдушні.	Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double-minded.
9	9
Страждайте, плачте і ридайте; сміх ваш нехай обернеться на плач і радість — на печаль.	Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10	10
Смиріться перед Господом, і піднесе вас.	Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall exalt you.
11	11
Hе злословте один на одного, браття: бо хто злословить на брата або судить брата свого, той злословить на закон і судить закон: коли ж ти закон судиш, то ти не виконавець закону, а суддя.	Speak not one against another, brethren. He that speaketh against a brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh against the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judgest the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
12	12
Один є Законодавець і Суддя, Який може спасти і погубити; а ти хто, що судиш ближнього?	One only is the lawgiver, even he who is able to save and to destroy: but who art thou that judgest another?

Тепер послухайте ви, що говорите: «Сьогодні або завтра підемо до такого-то міста, і проживемо там один рік, і будемо торгувати й одержувати прибуток»;	Come now, ye that say, Today and tomorrow let us go into this city, and spend one year there, and trade, and get gain:
14	14
ви, які не знаєте, що станеться завтра; бо що таке ваше життя? Воно є пара, що з’являється на короткий час, а потім зникає.	whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? For it will be a vapor that appeareth for a little time, and then also vanisheth away.
15	15
Замість того, щоб вам говорити: «Коли угодно буде Господеві і будемо живі, то зробимо те або інше», —	For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, let us both live, and do this or that.
16	16
ви ж нині хвалитесь у гордощах ваших; всяка така похвальба є зло.	But now ye glory in your vauntings: all such glorying is evil.
17	17
Отже, хто знає, як добро робити, і не робить, тому гріх.	To him therefore that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
Глава 5	Chapter 5

1	1
Послухайте ви, багатії; плачте і ридайте від лютих бід ваших, що наближаються до вас.	Come now, ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you.
2	2
Багатство ваше згнило, і одяг ваш поточений міллю.	Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.
3	3
Золото ваше і срібло поіржавіло, та іржа їх буде свідчити проти вас і з’їсть плоть вашу, як вогонь: ви придбали собі скарб на останні дні.	Your gold and your silver are rusted; and their rust shall be for a testimony against you, and shall eat your flesh as fire. Ye have laid up your treasure in the last days.

Ось плата, яку ви утримали у робітників, що працювали на ваших полях, голосить; і голосіння женців дійшли до вух Господа Саваофа.	Behold, the hire of the laborers who mowed your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth out: and the cries of them that reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.

Ви розкошували на землі та зазнали насолоди; наситили серця ваші, ніби на день заколення.	Ye have lived delicately on the earth, and taken your pleasure; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
6	6
Ви засудили, убили Праведника; Він не противився вам.	Ye have condemned, ye have killed the righteous one; he doth not resist you.
7	7
Отже, браття, будьте довготерпеливі до пришестя Господа. Ось хлібороб чекає доброго плоду від землі і довго терпить задля нього, поки прийме дощ ранній і пізній.	Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receive the early and latter rain.
8	8
Терпіть же довго і ви, зміцніть серця ваші, бо пришестя Господа наближається.	Be ye also patient; establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
9	9
Hе нарікайте, браття, один на одного, щоб і ви не були осуджені: ось Суддя перед дверима стоїть.	Murmur not one against another, brethren, that ye be not judged: behold, the judge standeth before the doors.
10	10
Візьміть за приклад, браття мої, тяжкі страждання і довготерпіння пророків, які говорили ім’ям Господнім.	Take, my brethren, for an example of suffering and of patience, the prophets who spake in the name of the Lord.
11	11
Ось ми ублажаємо тих, які терпіли. Ви чули про терпіння Іова і бачили кінець його від Господа; бо Господь вельми милостивий і щедрий.	Behold, we call them blessed that endure: ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord, how that he is full of pity, and merciful.
12	12
Перш за все, браття мої, не кляніться ні небом, ні землею, ні іншою якою клятвою, а нехай буде у вас: «так, так»; і «ні, нi», щоб вам не зазнати осуду.	But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by the heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath: but let your yea be yea, and your nay, nay; that ye fall not into hypocrisy.
13	13
Якщо хто з вас тяжко страждає, нехай молиться. Хто в доброму настрої, нехай співає псалми.	Is any among you suffering? let him pray. Is any cheerful? let him sing praise.
14	14
Чи хто з вас занедужає, нехай покличе пресвітерів Церкви і нехай помоляться над ним, помазавши його оливою в ім’я Господнє.	Is any among you sick? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15	15
І молитва віри зцілить недужого і підведе його Господь; і, якщо він гріхи вчинив, простяться йому.	and the prayer of faith shall save him that is sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, it shall be forgiven him.
16	16
Отже, признавайтесь один одному в провинах і моліться один за одного, щоб вам зцілитися, бо багато може щира молитва праведного.	Confess your trespasses one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The supplication of a righteous man availeth much in its working.
17	17
Ілля був чоловік подібний до нас, а помолився молитвою, щоб не було дощу, і не було дощу на землі три роки і шість місяців.	Elijah was a man of like passions with us, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain; and it rained not on the earth for three years and six months.
18	18
І знову помолився, і небо дало дощ, і земля зростила плід свій.	And he prayed again; and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
19	19
Браття! Якщо хтось із вас відхилиться від істини і хтось наверне його,	Brethren, if any among you err from the truth, and one convert him;
20	20
нехай той знає, що хто звернув грішника з облудної путі, спасе душу від смерти і покриє безліч гріхів.	let him know, that he who converteth a sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall cover a multitude of sins.
