| Слова книги, які написав Варух, син Нирії, сина Маасея, сина Седекії, сина Асадія, сина Хелкії, у Вавилоні, | And these are the words of the book, which Baruch the son of Nerias, the son of Maasias, the son of Sedecias, the son of Asadias, the son of Chelcias, wrote in Babylon, |

| у п’ятий рік, у сьомий день місяця, у той час, коли халдеї взяли Єрусалим і спалили його вогнем. | in the fifth year, and in the seventh day of the month, what time as the Chaldeans took Jerusalem, and burnt it with fire. |

| І прочитав Варух слова цієї книги вголос Ієхонії, сину Іоакимовому, царю Юдейському, і вголос усьому народу, який прийшов на слухання книги, | And Baruch did read the words of this book in the hearing of Jechonias the son of Joachim king of Juda, and in the ears of all the people that came to hear the book, |

| і вголос вельможам і синам царським, і вголос старійшинам, і вголос усьому народу, від малого до великого, усім, що жили у Вавилоні біля ріки Суд. | and in the hearing of the nobles, and of the king's sons, and in the hearing of the elders, and of all the people, from the lowest unto the highest, even of all them that dwelt at Babylon by the river Sud. |

| І вони плакали, і постились, і молилися Господу, | Whereupon they wept, fasted, and prayed before the Lord. |
|

| і зібрали срібла, скільки було під силу кожному, | They made also a collection of money according to every man's power: |
|

| і послали в Єрусалим до Іоакима, сина Хелкії, сина Саломового, до первосвященика, і до священиків і до всього народу, який знаходився з ним у Єрусалимі, | and they sent it to Jerusalem unto Joachim the high priest, the son of Chelcias, son of Salom, and to the priests, and to all the people which were found with him at Jerusalem, |

| коли Варух прийняв узяті з храму сосуди дому Господнього для повернення їх у землю Юдейську, в десятий день місяця Сиуала, сосуди срібні, які зробив Седекія, син Іосії, цар Юдейський, | at the same time when he received the vessels of the house of the Lord, that were carried out of the temple, to return them into the land of Juda, the tenth day of the month Sivan, namely, silver vessels, which Sedecias the son of Josias king of Juda had made, |

| після того, як Навуходоносор, цар Вавилонський, переселив з Єрусалима Ієхонію і князів, і в’язнів і вельмож, і народ землі, і привів його у Вавилон. | after that Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon had carried away Jechonias, and the princes, and the captives, and the mighty men, and the people of the land, from Jerusalem, and brought them unto Babylon. |

| І говорили вони: ось, ми посилаємо вам срібло, і купіть на це срібло всепалення і жертву за гріх і ладан, і приготуйте дар, і піднесіть на жертовник Господа Бога нашого, | And they said, Behold, we have sent you money to buy you burnt offerings, and sin offerings, and incense, and prepare ye manna, and offer upon the altar of the Lord our God; |

| і моліться за життя Навуходоносора, царя Вавилонського, і за життя Валтасара, сина його, щоб дні їхні були, як дні неба, на землі. | and pray for the life of Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon, and for the life of Balthasar his son, that their days may be upon earth as the days of heaven: |

| І дасть нам Господь силу і просвітить очі наші, і ми будемо жити під покровом Навуходоносора, царя Вавилонського, і під покровом Валтасара, сина його, і будемо служити їм багато днів, і знайдемо милість у них. | and the Lord will give us strength, and lighten our eyes, and we shall live under the shadow of Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon, and under the shadow of Balthasar his son, and we shall serve them many days, and find favour in their sight. |

| Моліться і за нас Господу Богу нашому, тому що ми згрішили перед Господом, Богом нашим, і не відвернулася від нас лють Господа і гнів Його до цього дня; | Pray for us also unto the Lord our God, for we have sinned against the Lord our God; and unto this day the fury of the Lord and his wrath is not turned from us. |

| і прочитайте цю книгу, яку ми посилаємо вам, щоб обнародувати у домі Господньому в день святковий і в дні урочисті; | And ye shall read this book which we have sent unto you, to make confession in the house of the Lord, upon the feasts and solemn days. |
|

| і скажіть: у Господа Бога нашого — правда, а у нас — сором на обличчях, як сьогодні, у всякого юдея й у тих, що живуть у Єрусалимі, | And ye shall say, To the Lord our God belongeth righteousness, but unto us the confusion of faces, as it is come to pass this day, unto them of Juda, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, |

| і у царів наших, і в князів наших, і у священиків наших, і у пророків наших, і у батьків наших, | and to our kings, and to our princes, and to our priests, and to our prophets, and to our fathers: |

| від того, що ми згрішили перед Господом, | for we have sinned before the Lord, |
|
18
|
18
|
| і не скорялися Йому, і не слухали гласу Господа Бога нашого, щоб ходити у повеліннях Господа, які Він дав перед лицем нашим. | and disobeyed him, and have not hearkened unto the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in the commandments that he gave us openly: |
|

|
| З того дня, в який Господь вивів батьків наших із землі Єгипетської, і до цього дня ми були непокірливі перед Господом Богом нашим і не зважали на те, що не слухали гласу Його. | since the day that the Lord brought our forefathers out of the land of Egypt, unto this present day, we have been disobedient unto the Lord our God, and we have been negligent in not hearing his voice. |

| Тому й осягли нас біди і клятва, — як сьогодні, — яку визначив Господь перед рабом Своїм Мойсеєм у той день, в який вивів батьків наших із землі Єгипетської, щоб дати нам землю, що тече молоком і медом. | Wherefore the evils cleaved unto us, and the curse, which the Lord appointed by Moses his servant at the time that he brought our fathers out of the land of Egypt, to give us a land that floweth with milk and honey, like as it is to see this day. |

| І не слухали ми гласу Господа Бога нашого в усіх словах пророків, яких Він посилав до нас, | Nevertheless we have not hearkened unto the voice of the Lord our God, according unto all the words of the prophets, whom he sent unto us: |
|

| і ходили кожен за думками злого серця свого, і служили іншим богам, звершуючі злі справи перед очима Господа Бога нашого. | but every man followed the imagination of his own wicked heart, to serve strange gods, and to do evil in the sight of the Lord our God. |
|

Chapter 2

|
| І виконав Господь слово Своє, яке Він вирік проти нас і проти суддів наших, які судили Ізраїля, і проти царів наших, і проти князів наших, і проти всякого ізраїльтянина та юдея, | Therefore the Lord hath made good his word, which he pronounced against us, and against our judges that judged Israel, and against our kings, and against our princes, and against the men of Israel and Juda, |

| що Він наведе на нас великі біди, яких не бувало під усім небом, як зробив Він у Єрусалимі, за написаним у законі Мойсеєвому, | to bring upon us great plagues, such as never happened under the whole heaven, as it came to pass in Jerusalem, according to the things that were written in the law of Moses; |

| що ми будемо їсти — один плоть сина свого, а інший — плоть дочки своєї. | that a man should eat the flesh of his own son, and the flesh of his own daughter. |
|

|

|
| І Він віддав їх у підданство усім царствам, які навколо нас, на наругу і спустошення усім навколишнім народам, між якими розсіяв їх Господь. | Moreover he hath delivered them to be in subjection to all the kingdoms that are round about us, to be as a reproach and desolation among all the people round about, where the Lord hath scattered them. |

| І ми виявилися внизу, а не нагорі, тому що ми згрішили перед Господом Богом нашим, не слухаючи гласу Його. | Thus we were cast down, and not exalted, because we have sinned against the Lord our God, and have not been obedient unto his voice. |
|

|
| У Господа Бога нашого — правда, а в нас і батьків наших — сором на лицях, як сьогодні. | To the Lord our God appertaineth righteousness: but unto us and to our fathers open shame, as appeareth this day. |
|

|

|
| Усі ті біди, які Господь вирік на нас, осягли нас. | For all these plagues are come upon us, which the Lord hath pronounced against us. |
|

|
8
|
| Ми не молилися перед лицем Господа, щоб Він відвернув кожного від думок злого серця його. | Yet have we not prayed before the Lord, that we might turn every one from the imaginations of his wicked heart. |
|

|
9
|
| І Господь спостерігав за цими бідами, і навів їх Господь на нас, тому що Господь праведний в усьому, що заповів нам. | Wherefore the Lord watched over us for evil, and the Lord hath brought it upon us: for the Lord is righteous in all his works which he hath commanded us. |
|

|
| Але ми не слухали гласу Його, щоб ходити у повеліннях Господніх, які Він дав перед лицем нашим. | Yet we have not hearkened unto his voice, to walk in the commandments of the Lord, that he hath set before us. |
|

|
| І нині, Господи, Боже Ізраїлів, Ти, Який вивів народ Твій із землі Єгипетської рукою сильною, і знаменнями, і чудесами, і силою великою і м’язами високими, і створив Собі ім’я, як сьогодні: | And now, O Lord God of Israel, that hast brought thy people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and high arm, and with signs, and with wonders, and with great power, and hast gotten thyself a name, as appeareth this day: |

| згрішили ми, чинили нечестиво, неправедно проти всіх уставів Твоїх, Господи Боже наш! | O Lord our God, we have sinned, we have done ungodly, we have dealt unrighteously in all thine ordinances. |
|

13
|
| Нехай відвернеться від нас лють Твоя, бо мало залишилося нас серед народів, між якими Ти розсіяв нас. | Let thy wrath turn from us: for we are but a few left among the heathen, where thou hast scattered us. |
|

|
14
|
| Почуй, Господи, молитву нашу і прохання наше, і визволи нас заради Тебе, і дай нам милість перед лицем тих, які переселили нас, | Hear our prayers, O Lord, and our petitions, and deliver us for thine own sake, and give us favour in the sight of them which have led us away: |
|

|
15
|
| щоб уся земля пізнала, що Ти — Господь Бог наш, оскільки ім’я Твоє наречене на Ізраїлі і на роді його. | that all the earth may know that thou art the Lord our God, because Israel and his posterity is called by thy name. |
|

|
| Споглянь, Господи, від святого дому Твого і згадай про нас, і прихили, Господи, вухо Твоє, і почуй. | O Lord, look down from thine holy house, and consider us: bow down thine ear, O Lord, to hear us. |
|
17
|
17
|
| Відкрий очі Твої, подивися, тому що не мертві у пеклі, яких дух узятий з нутрощів їх, воздадуть славу і хвалу Господу; | Open thine eyes, and behold; for the dead that are in the graves, whose souls are taken from their bodies, will give unto the Lord neither praise nor righteousness: |

| але людина, яка у скорботі через великі біди, яка ходить поникнувши й сумно, і очі потусклі і душа, яка прагне, воздадуть славу і правду Тобі, Господи. | but the soul that is greatly vexed, which goeth stooping and feeble, and the eyes that fail, and the hungry soul, will give thee praise and righteousness, O Lord. |

| Не за правдами батьків наших і царів наших ми приносимо це благання перед лицем Твоїм, Господи Боже наш; | Therefore we do not make our humble supplication before thee, O Lord our God, for the righteousness of our fathers, and of our kings, |
|

|

|
| бо на нас Ти послав лють Твою і гнів Твій, як говорив Ти через рабів Твоїх, пророків. | for thou hast sent out thy wrath and indignation upon us, as thou hast spoken by thy servants the prophets, saying, |
|

|

|
| Так сказав Господь: «схиліть плечі ваші, щоб працювати на царя Вавилонського, і будете жити на землі, яку Я дав батькам вашим; | Thus saith the Lord, Bow down your shoulders to serve the king of Babylon: so shall ye remain in the land that I gave unto your fathers. |
|

| а якщо не послухаєте гласу Господа, щоб служити цареві Вавилонському, | But if ye will not hear the voice of the Lord, to serve the king of Babylon, |
|
23
|
23
|
| Я зроблю те, що зникне у містах юдейських і околицях Єрусалима голос веселощів і голос радости, голос нареченого і голос нареченої, і не буде на всій цій землі сліду жителів». | I will cause to cease out of the cities of Juda, and from without Jerusalem, the voice of mirth, and the voice of joy, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: and the whole land shall be desolate of inhabitants. |

| Але ми не послухали гласу Твого, щоб служити цареві Вавилонському, і Ти виконав слова Твої, які говорив через рабів Твоїх, пророків, що винесені будуть кістки царів наших і кістки батьків наших із місця свого. | But we would not hearken unto thy voice, to serve the king of Babylon: therefore hast thou made good the words that thou spakest by thy servants the prophets, namely, that the bones of our kings, and the bones of our fathers, should be taken out of their places. |

| І ось, вони викинуті на денну спеку і нічний холод, а померли вони від злих хвороб, від голоду, від меча і вигнання. | And lo, they are cast out to the heat of the day, and to the frost of the night, and they died in great miseries by famine, by sword, and by pestilence. |
|

|
| Ти залишив дім, на якому наречене ім’я Твоє, як сьогодні, за нечестя дому Ізраїлевого і дому Іудиного. | And the house which is called by thy name hast thou laid waste, as it is to be seen this day, for the wickedness of the house of Israel and the house of Juda. |
|

|

|
| І Ти, Господи Боже наш, учинив з нами з усієї милости Твоєї і з усього великого милосердя Твого, | O Lord our God, thou hast dealt with us after all thy goodness, and according to all that great mercy of thine, |
|

|
28
|
| як сказав Ти через раба Твого Мойсея у той день, у який повелів йому написати закон Твій перед синами Ізраїля, говорячи: | as thou spakest by thy servant Moses in the day when thou didst command him to write thy law before the children of Israel, saying, |
|

|

|
| «якщо ви не послухаєте гласу Мого, то ця велика і численна сила народу перетвориться на мале серед народів, між якими Я розсію їх. | If ye will not hear my voice, surely this very great multitude shall be turned into a small number among the nations, where I will scatter them. |
|

|
30
|
| Я знаю, що вони не послухають Мене, тому що вони — народ упертий; але вони звернуться до серця свого у землі переселення свого, | For I knew that they would not hear me, because it is a stiffnecked people: but in the land of their captivities they shall remember themselves, |
|

|

|
| і пізнають, що Я — Господь Бог їх. І Я дам їм серце — і зрозуміють, і вуха — і почують. | and shall know that I am the Lord their God: for I will give them an heart, and ears to hear: |
|

|
32
|
| І будуть прославляти Мене на землі переселення свого і згадувати ім’я Моє, | and they shall praise me in the land of their captivity, and think upon my name, |
|
33
|
33
|
| і відвернуться від упертости своєї і від злих діл своїх; тому що згадають путь батьків своїх, які згрішили перед Господом. | and return from their stiff neck, and from their wicked deeds: for they shall remember the way of their fathers, which sinned before the Lord. |
|

|
| І Я поверну їх у землю, яку з клятвою обіцяв батькам їхнім, Аврааму й Ісааку та Якову, і вони будуть володіти нею; і примножу їх, і не зменшаться. | And I will bring them again into the land which I promised with an oath unto their fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and they shall be lords of it: and I will increase them, and they shall not be diminished. |

| Й укладу з ними вічний завіт у тім, що Я буду їхнім Богом, а вони будуть Моїм народом, і більше не вижену народу Мого Ізраїля з землі, яку дав їм». | And I will make an everlasting covenant with them to be their God, and they shall be my people: and I will no more drive my people of Israel out of the land that I have given them. |

Chapter 3
|

|
| Господи Вседержителю, Боже Ізраїля! пригнічена душа і сумний дух взиває до Тебе: | O Lord Almighty, God of Israel, the soul in anguish, the troubled spirit, crieth unto thee. |
|

|

|
| почуй, Господи, і помилуй, бо Ти Бог милосердий: помилуй, бо ми згрішили перед Тобою; | Hear, O Lord, and have mercy; for thou art merciful: and have pity upon us, because we have sinned before thee. |
|
3
|
3
|
| Ти — вічно перебуваєш, а ми — вічно гинемо. | For thou endurest for ever, and we perish utterly. |
|
4
|
4
|
| Господи Вседержителю, Боже Ізраїля! почуй молитву померлого Ізраїля і синів їх, що згрішили перед Тобою, які не послухали гласу Господа Бога свого, за те й осягли нас біди. | O Lord Almighty, thou God of Israel, hear now the prayers of the dead Israelites, and of their children, which have sinned before thee, and not hearkened unto the voice of thee their God: for the which cause these plagues cleave unto us. |

| Не поминай неправд батьків наших, але пом’яни руку Твою й ім’я Твоє у цей час, | Remember not the iniquities of our forefathers: but think upon thy power and thy name now at this time. |
|

|
| бо Ти — Господь Бог наш, і ми прославимо Тебе, Господи. | For thou art the Lord our God, and thee, O Lord, will we praise. |
|

|
7
|
| Ти для того вселив страх Твій у серце наше, щоб ми призивали ім’я Твоє; і ми будемо прославляти Тебе у переселенні нашому, бо ми відкинули від серця нашого всяку неправду батьків наших, які згрішили перед Тобою. | And for this cause thou hast put thy fear in our hearts, to the intent that we should call upon thy name, and praise thee in our captivity: for we have called to mind all the iniquity of our forefathers, that sinned before thee. |

| Ось, ми тепер у переселенні нашому, куди Ти розсіяв нас для ганьби й прокляття і відплати за всі неправди батьків наших, які відступили від Господа Бога нашого. | Behold, we are yet this day in our captivity, where thou hast scattered us, for a reproach and a curse, and to be subject to payments, according to all the iniquities of our fathers, which departed from the Lord our God. |

| Слухай, Ізраїлю, заповіді життя, дослухайтеся, щоб зрозуміти мудрість. | Hear, Israel, the commandments of life: give ear to understand wisdom. |
|

|
| Що це значить, Ізраїлю, що ти перебуваєш у землі ворогів? Постарів ти у чужій землі, осквернився разом з мертвими, | How happeneth it, Israel, that thou art in thine enemies' land, that thou art waxen old in a strange country, that thou art defiled with the dead, |
|

|
| залічений до тих, хто знаходиться в пеклі, | that thou art counted with them that go down into the grave? |
|
12
|
12
|
| залишив джерело премудрости. | Thou hast forsaken the fountain of wisdom. |
|
13
|
13
|
| Якби ти ходив путями Божими, то жив би у мирі повіки. | For if thou hadst walked in the way of God, thou shouldest have dwelled in peace for ever. |
|
14
|
14
|
| Пізнай, де знаходиться мудрість, де сила, де знання, щоб разом з тим дізнатися, де знаходиться довголіття і життя, де знаходиться світло очей і мир. | Learn where is wisdom, where is strength, where is understanding; that thou mayest know also where is length of days, and life, where is the light of the eyes, and peace. |

| Хто знайшов місце її, і хто зійшов у скарбниці її? | Who hath found out her place? or who hath come into her treasures? |
|

|
| Де князі народів і володарі звірів земних, які забавлялися птахами небесними, | Where are the princes of the heathen, and such as ruled the beasts upon the earth; |
|

|
17
|
| і збирали срібло і золото, на які сподіваються люди, і надбанням яких немає кінця? | they that had their pastime with the fowls of the air, and they that hoarded up silver and gold, wherein men trust, and made no end of their getting? |
|

|

|
| Де ті, які займалися срібними виробами, і виробам яких немає числа? | For they that wrought in silver, and were so careful, and whose works are unsearchable, |
|

|
| Вони зникли і зійшли у пекло, і замість них постали інші. | they are vanished and gone down to the grave, and others are come up in their stead. |
|

|
20
|
| Пізніші бачили світло і жили на землі, але шляхів мудрости не пізнали; | Young men have seen light, and dwelt upon the earth; but the way of knowledge have they not known, |
|
21
|

|
| не зрозуміли стежок її, і не досягли її сини їхні: вони були далеко від путі її. | nor understood the paths thereof, nor laid hold of it: their children were far off from that way. |
|
22
|
22
|
| Не було чутно про неї у Ханаані, і не було видно її у Фемані. | It hath not been heard of in Chanaan, neither hath it been seen in Theman. |
|

|

|
| Сини Агарі шукали земного знання, рівно і купці Мерри і Фемана, і байкослови і дослідники знання; але путі премудрости не пізнали і не помітили стежок її. | The Agarenes that seek wisdom upon earth, the merchants of Meran and of Theman, the authors of fables, and searchers out of understanding; none of these have known the way of wisdom, or remembered her paths. |

| О, Ізраїлю! який великий дім Божий, і яке просторе місце володіння його! | O Israel, how great is the house of God! and how large is the place of his possession! |
|

| Великий він і не має кінця, високий і невимірний. | Great, and hath none end; high, and unmeasurable. |
|

|

|
| Там були від початку славні велетні, дуже великі, хоробрі на війні. | There were the giants famous from the beginning, that were of so great stature, and so expert in war. |
|
27
|
27
|
| Але не їх обрав Бог, і не їм відкрив путі премудрости; | Those did not the Lord choose, neither gave he the way of knowledge unto them: |
|
28
|
28
|
| і вони загинули від того, що не мали мудрости, загинули від нерозуму свого. | but they were destroyed, because they had no wisdom, and perished through their own foolishness. |
|
29
|
29
|
| Хто зійшов на небо, і взяв її, і зніс із хмар? | Who hath gone up into heaven, and taken her, and brought her down from the clouds? |
|
30
|
30
|
| Хто перейшов моря і знайшов її, і хто принесе її, кращу за чисте золото? | Who hath gone over the sea, and found her, and will bring her for pure gold? |
|

|
| Немає нікого, хто знає путь її, ні того, хто помишляє про стежки її. | No man knoweth her way, nor thinketh of her path. |
|

|
| Але Той, Хто знає все, знає її; Він відкрив її Своїм розумом, Той, Який створив землю на вічні часи і наповнив її чотириногими тваринами, | But he that knoweth all things knoweth her, and hath found her out with his understanding: he that prepared the earth for evermore hath filled it with fourfooted beasts: |

| Який посилає світло, і воно йде, прикликав його, і воно послухалося Його з трепетом; | he that sendeth forth light, and it goeth, calleth it again, and it obeyeth him with fear. |

|
| і зірки засяяли на сторожі своїй, і звеселилися. | The stars shined in their watches, and rejoiced: when he calleth them, they say, Here we be; and so with cheerfulness they shewed light unto him that made them. |
|

|
| Він покликав їх, і вони сказали: «ось ми», і засяяли радістю перед Творцем своїм. | This is our God, and there shall none other be accounted of in comparison of him. |
|

|
| Цей є Бог наш, і ніхто інший не зрівняється з Ним. | He hath found out all the way of knowledge, and hath given it unto Jacob his servant, and to Israel his beloved. |

|
| Він знайшов усі путі премудрости і дарував її рабові Своєму Якову й улюбленому Своєму Ізраїлю. | Afterward did he shew himself upon earth, and conversed with men. |

Chapter 4

1
|
| Ось книга заповідей Божих і закон, який перебуває повік. Усі, хто дотримуються її, будуть жити, а ті, що залишають її, помруть. | This is the book of the commandments of God, and the law that endureth for ever: all they that keep it shall come to life; but such as leave it shall die. |
|

| Звернися, Якове, і візьми її, ходи при сяйві світла її. | Turn thee, O Jacob, and take hold of it: walk in the presence of the light thereof, that thou mayest be illuminated. |

| Не віддавай іншому слави твоєї, і корисного для тебе — чужому народові. | Give not thine honour to another, nor the things that are profitable unto thee to a strange nation. |

| Щасливі ми, Ізраїлю, що ми знаємо, що благоугодно Богу. | O Israel, happy are we: for things that are pleasing to God are made known unto us. |
|

|
| Дерзай, народе мій, пам’ятник Ізраїлю! | Be of good cheer, my people, the memorial of Israel. |
|

|
| Ви віддані язичникам не на загибель, але за те, що ви прогнівали Бога, ви віддані ворогам; | Ye were sold to the nations, not for your destruction: but because ye moved God to wrath, ye were delivered unto the enemies. |
|

|
| бо роздратували Того, Хто сотворив вас, приносячи жертви бісам, а не Богу. | For ye provoked him that made you by sacrificing unto devils and not to God. |
|

|
| Ви забули вічного Бога, Який годує вас, а також засмутили і Єрусалим, який виховав вас, | Ye have forgotten the everlasting God, that brought you up; and ye have grieved Jerusalem, that nursed you. |
|

|
| бо він бачив гнів, який прийшов на вас від Бога, і говорив: «слухайте, співмешканці Сиону, Бог навів на мене велику скорботу, | For when she saw the wrath of God coming upon you, she said, Hearken, O ye that dwell about Sion: God hath brought upon me great mourning; |

| бо я бачив полонення синів моїх і дочок, яке навів на них Вічний. | for I saw the captivity of my sons and daughters, which the Everlasting brought upon them. |
|

|
| Я годував їх з радістю, а відпустив із плачем і гіркотою. | With joy did I nourish them; but sent them away with weeping and mourning. |
|

|
| Ніхто не радуйся за мене, який є вдівцем і залишений багатьма; я спорожнів за гріхи дітей моїх, бо вони ухилилися від закону Божого; | Let no man rejoice over me, a widow, and forsaken of many, who for the sins of my children am left desolate; because they departed from the law of God. |

| не пізнали уставів Його, не ходили путями заповідей Бога, і не вступили на стежки навчання у правді Його. | They knew not his statutes, nor walked in the ways of his commandments, nor trod in the paths of discipline in his righteousness. |
|

|
| Прийдіть, співмешканці Сиону, і згадаєте полон синів моїх і дочок, який навів на них Вічний. | Let them that dwell about Sion come, and remember ye the captivity of my sons and daughters, which the Everlasting hath brought upon them. |
|

|
| Бо Він навів на них народ здалеку, народ нахабний та іншомовний, бо не посоромилися старця, і не зглянулися на дитину, | For he hath brought a nation upon them from far, a shameless nation, and of a strange language, who neither reverenced old man, nor pitied child, |
|

|
| і забрали у вдови синів улюблених і залишили самотню без дочок. | and they have carried away the dear beloved children of the widow, and left her that was alone desolate without daughters. |
|

|
| Я ж чим можу допомогти вам? | But what can I help you? |
|

|
| Хто навів на вас ці біди, Той і визволить вас від руки ворогів ваших. | For he that brought these plagues upon you will deliver you from the hands of your enemies. |
|

|
| Ідіть, діти, йдіть, бо я залишився порожнім. | Go your way, O my children, go your way: for I am left desolate. |
|

|
| Я зняв із себе одяг світлий й одягся у веретище моління мого; буду волати до Вічного у дні мої. | I have put off the clothing of peace, and put upon me the sackcloth of my prayer: I will cry unto the Everlasting in my days. |
|

| Дерзайте, діти, взивайте до Бога, і Він визволить вас від насильства, від руки ворогів. | Be of good cheer, O my children, cry unto the Lord, and he shall deliver you from the power and hand of the enemies. |
|

|
| Бо від Вічного я очікував спасіння вашого, і мені прийшла від Святого радість про милість, що скоро прийде до вас від Вічного, Спасителя нашого. | For my hope is in the Everlasting, that he will save you: and joy is come unto me from the Holy One, because of the mercy which shall soon come unto you from the Everlasting your Saviour. |

| Я відпускав вас із сумом і гіркотою, але Бог поверне мені вас з радістю і веселощами навіки. | For I sent you out with mourning and weeping: but God will give you to me again with joy and gladness for ever. |
|

| Тому що, як нині співмешканці Сиону бачили полон ваш, так побачать швидке спасіння ваше від Бога, Який прийде до вас з великою славою і величчю Вічного. | Like as now the neighbours of Sion have seen your captivity: so shall they see shortly your salvation from your God, which shall come upon you with great glory, and brightness of the Everlasting. |

| Діти! потерпіть гнів, який прийшов на вас від Бога: переслідував тебе ворог, але ти незабаром побачиш загибель його, і наступиш йому на шию. | My children, suffer patiently the wrath that is come upon you from God: for thine enemy hath persecuted thee; but shortly thou shalt see his destruction, and shalt tread upon his neck. |

| Виховані у мене у розкошах пішли жорсткими шляхами, схоплені як стадо, розкрадене ворогами. | My delicate ones have gone rough ways, and were taken away as a flock caught of the enemies. |
|

| Дерзайте, діти, і взивайте до Бога, бо про вас згадає Той, Хто навів на вас це. | Be of good comfort, O my children, and cry unto God: for ye shall be remembered of him that brought these things upon you. |
|

| Яка була рішучість ваша, щоб віддалитися від Бога, збільшіть її у десять разів, щоб навернутися і шукати Його, | For as it was your mind to go astray from God: so, being returned, seek him ten times more. |
|

|
| бо Той, Хто навів на вас ці біди, подасть вам вічні веселощі зі спасінням». | For he that hath brought these plagues upon you shall bring you everlasting joy again with your salvation. |
|

|
| Дерзай, Єрусалиме! Той, Хто дарував тобі ім’я, утішить тебе. | Take a good heart, O Jerusalem: for he that gave thee that name will comfort thee. |

| Нещасні ті, які ображали тебе і раділи твоєму падінню. | Miserable are they that afflicted thee, and rejoiced at thy fall. |
|

|
| Нещасні міста, яким служили діти твої, нещасна земля, яка прийняла синів твоїх, | Miserable are the cities which thy children served: miserable is she that received thy sons. |
|

|
| бо як вона раділа твоєму падінню і веселилася через твою поразку, так буде у скорботі через своє спустошення. | For as she rejoiced at thy ruin, and was glad of thy fall: so shall she be grieved for her own desolation. |

| Я відніму у неї радість за численність її народу, і хвастощі її будуть на сум; | For I will take away the rejoicing of her great multitude, and her pride shall be turned into mourning. |
|

|
| бо прийде на неї вогонь від Вічного на довгі дні, і дуже тривалий час вона буде населена бісами. | For fire shall come upon her from the Everlasting, long to endure; and she shall be inhabited of devils for a great time. |
|

|
| Оглянься, Єрусалиме, на схід, і подивися на радість, яка прийде до тебе від Бога. | O Jerusalem, look about thee toward the east, and behold the joy that cometh unto thee from God. |
|

|
| Ось, ідуть сини твої, яких ти відпустив, ідуть зібрані від сходу до заходу словом Святого, радіючи славі Божій. | Lo, thy sons come, whom thou sentest away, they come gathered together from the east to the west by the word of the Holy One, rejoicing in the glory of God. |

| Єрусалиме! зніми із себе одяг плачу й озлоблення твого й одягнися у красу слави від Бога повіки. | Put off, O Jerusalem, the garment of thy mourning and affliction, and put on the comeliness of the glory that cometh from God for ever. |
|

|
| Одягнися в одяг правди від Бога, поклади на голову твою вінець слави Вічного, | Cast about thee a double garment of the righteousness which cometh from God; and set a diadem on thine head of the glory of the Everlasting. |
|

|

|
| бо Бог покаже всій піднебесній славу твою. | For God will shew thy brightness unto every country under heaven. |
|

|
4
|
| Навік наречеться від Бога ім’я тобі: «мир правди і слава благочестя». | For thy name shall be called of God for ever The peace of righteousness, and The glory of God's worship. |
|

|
| Встань, Єрусалиме, і стань на висоті, і звернися на схід, і подивися на дітей твоїх, зібраних від заходу сонця до сходу словом Святого, які радіють про Боже пам’ятання про них. | Arise, O Jerusalem, and stand on high, and look about toward the east, and behold thy children gathered from the west unto the east by the word of the Holy One, rejoicing in the remembrance of God. |

| Вони вийшли від тебе піші, їх вели вороги, а приведе до тебе їх Бог, вознесених зі славою, як царських синів; | For they departed from thee on foot, and were led away of their enemies: but God bringeth them unto thee exalted with glory, as children of the kingdom. |

| бо Бог визначив, щоб усяка висока гора і вічні пагорби понизилися, а долини наповнилися, для зрівняння землі, щоб Ізраїль ішов твердо, зі славою Божою, | For God hath appointed that every high hill, and banks of long continuance, should be cast down, and vallies filled up, to make even the ground, that Israel may go safely in the glory of God. |

| а ліси і всяке запашне дерево осіняли Ізраїля за велінням Божим. | Moreover even the woods and every sweetsmelling tree shall overshadow Israel by the commandment of God. |
|

|
| Бог буде з радістю передувати Ізраїлю світлом слави Своєї, з милістю і правдою Своєю. | For God shall lead Israel with joy in the light of his glory with the mercy and righteousness that cometh from him. |
