| У четвертий рік царя Дарія було слово Господнє до Захарії, у четвертий день дев’ятого місяця, Хаслева, | And it came to pass in the fourth year of Darius the king, that the word of the Lord came to Zacharias on the fourth day of the ninth month, which is Chaseleu. |

| коли Вефиль послав Сарецера і Регем-Мелеха і супутників його помолитися перед лицем Господа | And Sarasar and Arbeseer the king and his men sent to Bæthel, and that to propitiate the Lord, |
|

| і запитати у священиків, які у домі Господа Саваофа, й у пророків, говорячи: «чи плакати мені у п’ятий місяць і поститися, як я робив це вже багато років?» | speaking to the priests that were in the house of the Lord Almighty, and to the prophets, saying, The holy offering has come in hither in the fifth month, as it has done already many years. |

| І було до мене слово Господа Саваофа: | And the word of the Lord of hosts came to me, saying, |

| скажи всьому народу землі цієї і священикам так: коли ви постились і плакали у п’ятому і сьомому місяці, притому вже сімдесят років, чи для Мене ви постилися? чи для Мене? | Speak to the whole people of the land, and to the priests, saying, Though ye fasted or lamented in the fifth or seventh months (yea, behold, these seventy years) have ye at all fasted to me? |

| І коли ви їсте і коли п’єте, чи не для себе ви їсте, чи не для себе ви п’єте? | And if ye eat or drink, do ye not eat and drink for yourselves? |

| Чи не ті самі слова проголошував Господь через попередніх пророків, коли ще Єрусалим був населений і спокійний, і міста навколо нього, південна країна і низина, були населені? | Are not these the words which the Lord spoke by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and her cities round about her, and the hill country and the low country was inhabited? |

| І було слово Господнє до Захарії: | And the word of the Lord came to Zacharias, saying, |

| так говорив тоді Господь Саваоф: чиніть суд справедливий і виявляйте милість і співстраждання кожен братові своєму; | Thus saith the Lord Almighty; Judge righteous judgment, and deal mercifully and compassionately every one with his brother: |
|

| вдови́ і сироти́, прибульця і бідного не пригноблюйте і зла одне проти одного не замишляйте у серці вашому. | and oppress not the widow, or the fatherless, or the stranger, or the poor; and let not one of you remember in his heart the injury of his brother. |
|

| Але вони не хотіли слухати, відвернулися від Мене, і вуха свої обтяжили, щоб не чути. | But they refused to attend, and madly turned their back, and made their ears heavy, so that they should not hear. |
|

| І серце своє окам’янили, щоб не чути закону і слів, які посилав Господь Саваоф Духом Своїм через попередніх пророків; за те й прийшов на них великий гнів Господа Саваофа. | And they made their heart disobedient, so as not to hearken to my law, and the words which the Lord Almighty sent forth by his Spirit by the former prophets: so there was great wrath from the Lord Almighty. |

| І було: як Він взивав, а вони не слухали, так і вони взивали, а Я не слухав, — говорить Господь Саваоф. | And it shall come to pass, that as he spoke, and they hearkened not, so they shall cry, and I will not hearken, saith the Lord Almighty. |
|

|
| І Я розвіяв їх серед усіх народів, яких вони не знали, і земля ця спорожніла після них, так що ніхто не ходив по ній ні взад, ні вперед, і вони зробили жадану країну пустелею. | And I will cast them out among all the nations, whom they know not; and the land behind them shall be made utterly destitute of any going through or returning: yea they have made the choice land a desolation. |
