| Павло, апостол Ісуса Христа за повелінням Бога, Спасителя нашого, і Господа Ісуса Христа, надії нашої, | Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ according to the commandment of God our Savior, and the Lord Jesus Christ our hope; |
|

|
2
|
| Тимофієві, істинному синові у вірі: благодать, милість, мир від Бога Отця нашого і Христа Ісуса, Господа нашого. | unto Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, peace, from God our Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. |
|

|
3
|
| Йдучи до Македонії, я просив тебе залишитися в Ефесі і умовляти деяких, щоб вони не навчали іншого | As I exhorted thee to tarry at Ephesus, when I was going into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge certain men not to teach a different doctrine, |
|

|
4
|
| і не займалися байками та нескінченними родоводами, які більше викликають суперечки, ніж Боже утвердження у вірі. | neither to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questionings, rather than a dispensation of God which is in faith; so do I now. |
|

|
| Метою ж умовляння є любов від щирого серця і доброї совісти та нелицемірної віри, | But the end of the charge is love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and faith unfeigned: |
|

|
6
|
| від чого відступивши, деякі вдались до марнослів’я, | from which things some having swerved have turned aside unto vain talking; |
|
7
|
7
|
| бажаючи бути законовчителями, але не розуміють ні того, про що говорять, ні того, що стверджують. | desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say, nor whereof they confidently affirm. |
|

|
8
|
| А ми знаємо, що закон добрий, якщо хто законно вживає його, | But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully, |
|
9
|
9
|
| знаючи, що закон призначений не для праведника, а для беззаконних і непокірних, нечестивих і грішників, неправедних і нечистих, для кривдників батька і матері, для людиновбивць, | as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and unruly, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, |

| для блудників, мужоложців, розбійників‚ наклепників, скотоложців, неправдомовців, клятвопорушників та для всіх, що противляться здоровому вченню, | for fornicators, for abusers of themselves with men, for menstealers, for liars, for false swearers, and if there be any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine; |

| за славним благовістям блаженного Бога, яке мені довірене. | according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. |
|

| Дякую Христу Ісусу, Господеві нашому, Який дав мені силу, що Він визнав мене вірним, поставивши на служіння, | And I thank him that enabled me, even Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he counted me faithful, appointing me to his service; |
|

|
| мене, колишнього хулителя, і гонителя, і кривдника, але помилуваного тому, що так чинив за невіданням‚ у невірствi; | though I was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: howbeit I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief; |
|

|
14
|
| благодать же Господа нашого Ісуса Христа відкрилася в мені щедро з вірою і любов’ю у Христі Ісусі. | and the grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. |
|
15
|
15
|
| Вірне і всякого прийняття гідне слово, що Христос Ісус прийшов у світ спасти грішників, серед яких я перший. | Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief: |
|

|
16
|
| Та для того я й помилуваний, щоб Ісус Христос на мені першому показав усе довготерпіння, як приклад для тих, які будуть вірувати в Hього, для життя вічного. | howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me as chief might Jesus Christ show forth all his long-suffering, for an example of them that should thereafter believe on him unto eternal life. |

| Цареві ж віків нетлінному, невидимому, єдиному, премудрому Богові честь і слава на віки вічні. Амінь. | Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. |
|

| Передаю тобі, сину мій Тимофію, згідно з пророцтвами, що були про тебе раніш, такий заповіт, щоб ти воював згідно з ними, як добрий воїн, | This charge I commit unto thee, my child Timothy, according to the prophecies which led the way to thee, that by them thou mayest war the good warfare; |

| маючи віру і добру совість, яку деякі відкинувши, зазнали загибелі корабля у вірі, | holding faith and a good conscience; which some having thrust from them made shipwreck concerning the faith: |
|
20
|
20
|
| такі Гіменей і Олександр, яких я передав сатані, щоб вони навчилися не хулити Бога. | of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I delivered unto Satan, that they might be taught not to blaspheme. |
|
Глава 2
|
Chapter 2
|
|
1
|
1
|
| Отже, передусім благаю чинити молитви, моління, прохання, подяки за всіх людей, | I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men; |
|
2
|
2
|
| за царів і за всіх, які начальствують, щоб провадити нам життя тихе й безтурботне, у всякому благочесті і чистоті, | for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity. |
|
3
|
3
|
| бо це добре і угодне Спасителеві нашому Богу, | For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; |
|
4
|
4
|
| Який хоче, щоб усі люди спаслися і досягли пізнання істини. | who would have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth. |
|
5
|
5
|
| Бо єдиний Бог, єдиний і Посередник між Богом і людьми, чоловік Христос Ісус, | For there is one God, one mediator also between God and men, himself man, Christ Jesus, |
|

|
6
|
| Який віддав Себе для відкуплення всіх. Таке було у свій час свідчення, | who gave himself a ransom for all; the testimony to be borne in its own times; |
|
7
|
7
|
| для якого я поставлений проповідником і апостолом, — істину кажу у Христі, не обманюю, — учителем язичників у вірі та істині. | whereunto I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I speak the truth in Christ, I lie not), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. |
|

|
8
|
| Отже, бажаю, щоб на всякому місці мужі підносили молитви, піднімаючи чисті руки без гніву та сумніву; | I desire therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and disputing. |
|

|
9
|
| щоб також і жінки, в пристойному вбранні, з соромливістю і цнотливістю прикрашали себе не заплітанням волосся, не золотом, не перлами, не дорогоцінним одягом, | In like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly raiment; |

| а добрими ділами, як личить жінкам, які присвячують себе благочестю. | but (which becometh women professing godliness) through good works. |
|

|
11
|
| Жінка нехай вчиться в безмовності, в повній покорi; | Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection. |
|
12
|
12
|
| а навчати жінці не дозволяю, ані панувати над чоловіком, а бути в безмовності. | But I permit not a woman to teach, nor to have dominion over a man, but to be in quietness. |
|

|
13
|
| Бо спершу був створений Адам, а потім Єва; | For Adam was first formed, then Eve; |
|
14
|
14
|
| і не Адам був спокушений; а жінка, спокусившись, вдалася до переступу; | and Adam was not beguiled, but the woman being beguiled hath fallen into transgression: |
|
15
|
15
|
| а втім, спасеться через народження дітей, якщо буде у вірі й любові та в святості з цнотою. | but she shall be saved through her childbearing, if they continue in faith and love and sanctification with sobriety. |
|
Глава 3
|
Chapter 3
|
|
1
|
1
|
| Вірне слово: коли хто єпископства бажає, доброго діла бажає. | Faithful is the saying, If a man seeketh the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. |
|
2
|
2
|
| Але єпископ повинен бути непорочним, однієї жінки чоловіком, тверезим, цнотливим, благоговійним, чесним, гостинним, здатним навчати, | The bishop therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, orderly, given to hospitality, apt to teach; |
|

|
| не п’яницею, не забіякою, не сварливим, не користолюбним, а тихим, миролюбним, не сріблолюбним, | not given to wine, no brawler, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but gentle, not contentious, no lover of money; |
|

|
4
|
| таким, що добре править домом своїм, дітей тримає у слухняності: з усякою чесністю; | one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; |
|
5
|
5
|
| бо хто не вміє управляти власним домом, чи буде той піклуватися про Церкву Божу? | (but if a man knoweth not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) |
|

|
6
|
| Hе повинен бути з новонавернених, щоб не загордився і не потрапив на осуд і в тенета диявола. | not a novice, lest being puffed up he fall into the condemnation of the devil. |
|
7
|
7
|
| Hалежить йому також мати добре свідчення від зовнішніх, щоб не потрапити на ганьблення і в сіті неприязні диявольські. | Moreover he must have good testimony from them that are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. |
|
8
|
8
|
| Диякони також повинні бути чесними, не двомовними, не охочими до вина, не користолюбними, | Deacons in like manner must be grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; |
|
9
|
9
|
| такими, що зберігають таїнство віри в чистій совісті. | holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. |
|
10
|
10
|
| Таких треба спершу випробовувати, потім, якщо бездоганні, допускати до служіння. | And let these also first be proved; then let them serve as deacons, if they be blameless. |
|
11
|
11
|
| Так само і жінки їхні повинні бути чесними, не обмовницями, тверезими, вірними в усьому. | Women in like manner must be grave, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things. |
|
12
|
12
|
| Диякон повинен бути чоловіком однієї жінки, таким, щоб добре правив дітьми і домом своїм. | Let deacons be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. |
|
13
|
13
|
| Бо ті, що добре служать, готують собі вищий ступінь і велике дерзновення у вірі в Христа Ісуса. | For they that have served well as deacons gain to themselves a good standing, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. |
|
14
|
14
|
| Це пишу тобі, сподіваючись незабаром прийти до тебе, | These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly; |
|
15
|
15
|
| щоб, коли забарюсь, ти знав, як слід поводитись у домі Божому, яким є Церква Бога Живого, стовп і утвердження істини. | but if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how men ought to behave themselves in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. |
|

|
16
|
| І безперечно — велика благочестя тайна: Бог явився у плоті, виправдав Себе в Духові‚ показав Себе ангелам, проповіданий у народах, прийнятий вірою в світі, вознісся у славі. | And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness; God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the spirit, Seen of angels, Preached among the nations, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory. |
|

Chapter 4
|

|
1
|
| Дух же ясно говорить, що в останні часи відступлять деякі від віри, слухаючи духів спокусників і вчення бісівські, | But the Spirit saith expressly, that in later times some shall fall away from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons, |
|
2
|
2
|
| через лицемірство лжесловесників, спалених у совісті своїй, | through the hypocrisy of men that speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron; |
|
3
|
3
|
| що забороняють одружуватися і вживати в їжу те, що Бог сотворив, аби вірні і ті, що пізнали істину, споживали з подякою. | forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by them that believe and know the truth. |
|

|
4
|
| Бо всяке творіння Боже добре, і ніщо не погане, коли приймається з подякою, | For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it be received with thanksgiving: |
|
5
|
5
|
| бо освячується словом Божим і молитвою. | for it is sanctified through the word of God and prayer. |
|
6
|
6
|
| Hавчаючи цьому братів, будеш добрим служителем Ісуса Христа, годованим словами віри і добрим ученням, за яким ти пішов. | If thou put the brethren in mind of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of the faith, and of the good doctrine which thou hast followed until now: |

|
| Негідних і бабських байок цурайся, а вправляй себе в побожності, | but refuse profane and old wives’ fables. And exercise thyself unto godliness: |
|
8
|
8
|
| бо тілесна вправа мало корисна, а благочестя корисне на все, маючи обітницю життя теперішнього і майбутнього. | for bodily exercise is profitable for a little; but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life which now is, and of that which is to come. |
|

|
9
|
| Слово це вірне і всякого прийняття гідне. | Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation. |
|
10
|
10
|
| Бо ми для того і трудимося і ганьбу терпимо, що уповаємо на Бога Живого, Який є Спасителем усіх людей, а найбільше вірних. | For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of them that believe. |
|

|
| Проповідуй це і навчай. | These things command and teach. |
|
12
|
12
|
| Hехай ніхто не гордує твоєю молодістю: але будь взірцем для вірних у слові, в житті, в любові, в дусі, у вірі, в чистоті. | Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example to them that believe, in word, in manner of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. |
|

|
13
|
| Доки не прийду, займайся читанням, наставлянням, повчанням. | Till I come, give heed to reading, to exhortation, to teaching. |
|
14
|
14
|
| Hе занедбуй дарування, що перебуває в тобі і дане тобі за пророцтвом з покладанням рук священства. | Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. |
|
15
|
15
|
| Про це турбуйся, в цьому перебувай, щоб успіх твій для всіх був очевидний. | Be diligent in these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy progress may be manifest unto all. |
|
16
|
16
|
| Пильнуй себе самого та навчання; займайся цим постійно: бо, так роблячи, і себе спасеш і тих, що слухають тебе. | Take heed to thyself, and to thy teaching. Continue in these things; for in doing this thou shalt save both thyself and them that hear thee. |
|
Глава 5
|
Chapter 5
|
|
1
|
1
|
| Старшого не докоряй, але умовляй, як батька; молодших, як братів; | Rebuke not an elder, but exhort him as a father; the younger men as brethren: |
|
2
|
2
|
| старих жінок, як матерів; молодих, як сестер, з усякою чистотою. | the elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, in all purity. |
|
3
|
3
|
| Вдовиць шануй, справжніх вдовиць. | Honor widows that are widows indeed. |
|
4
|
4
|
| Коли ж яка вдовиця має дітей або внучат, то вони спочатку нехай вчаться шанувати свою родину і віддавати належне батькам, бо це угодне Богові. | But if any widow hath children or grandchildren, let them learn first to show piety toward their own family, and to requite their parents: for this is acceptable in the sight of God. |

| Справжня вдовиця і одинока надіється на Бога і перебуває день і ніч у благаннях та молитвах; | Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, hath her hope set on God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day. |
|

|
| а сластолюбна живою померла. | But she that giveth herself to pleasure is dead while she liveth. |
|
7
|
7
|
| І цьому повчай їх, щоб були непорочні. | These things also command, that they may be without reproach. |
|
8
|
8
|
| Коли ж хто про своїх і особливо про домашніх не піклується, той відрікся від віри і гірший за невірного. | But if any provideth not for his own, and especially for those of his own household, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever. |
|
9
|
9
|
| Вдовиця повинна бути обрана не менш як шістдесятирічна, яка була жінкою одного чоловіка; | Let none be enrolled as a widow under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man, |
|
10
|
10
|
| відома добрими ділами, якщо вона виховала дітей, приймала подорожніх, умивала ноги святим, допомагала знедоленим і була старанна до всякого доброго діла. | well reported of for good works; if she hath brought up children, if she hath used hospitality to strangers, if she hath washed the saints’ feet, if she hath relieved the afflicted, if she hath diligently followed every good work. |

| Молодих же вдовиць не приймай, бо коли їх охопить пристрасть, противна Христові, вони хочуть виходити заміж. | But younger widows refuse: for when they have waxed wanton against Christ, they desire to marry; |
|
12
|
12
|
| Вони підлягають осудові, бо зреклися попередньої віри; | having condemnation, because they have rejected their first pledge. |
|
13
|
13
|
| до того ж вони, будучи бездіяльними, привчаються ходити по домах і бувають не тільки бездіяльними, але й балакучими, цікавими і говорять, чого не слід. | And withal they learn also to be idle, going about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. |
|

|
| Отже, я хочу, щоб молоді вдови заміж виходили, народжували дітей, управляли домом і не давали противникові ніякого приводу до лихомовства; | I desire therefore that the younger widows marry, bear children, rule the household, give no occasion to the adversary for reviling: |
|

|
| бо деякі вже пішли слідом за сатаною. | for already some are turned aside after Satan. |
|
16
|
16
|
| Коли який вірний чи вірна має вдовиць, то повинні їх утримувати і не обтяжувати церкви, щоб вона могла утримувати справжніх вдовиць. | If any believing man or believing woman hath widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be burdened; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed. |
|

|
| Пресвітерам, які начальствують достойно, належить виявляти особливу честь, надто тим, що трудяться в слові і навчанні. | Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and in teaching. |
|
18
|
18
|
| Бо Писання говорить: «Hе зав’язуй рота волові, що молотить»; і «Той‚ хто працює‚ вартий винагороди своєї». | For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the grain. And, The laborer is worthy of his hire. |
|

|
19
|
| Звинувачення на пресвітера приймай не інакше як при двох чи трьох свідках. | Against an elder receive not an accusation, except at the mouth of two or three witnesses. |
|
20
|
20
|
| А тих, хто грішить, викривай перед усіма, щоб і інші страх мали. | Them that sin reprove in the sight of all, that the rest also may be in fear. |
|

|
21
|
| Перед Богом і Господом Ісусом Христом та обраними ангелами заклинаю тебе зберегти це без упередження, нічого не роблячи з упередженням. | I charge thee in the sight of God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing by partiality. |
|

|
| Рук ні на кого не покладай поспішно і не ставай учасником чужих гріхів. Бережи себе чистим. | Lay hands hastily on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure. |
|

|
| Hадалі пий не одну воду, а вживай небагато вина, заради шлунка твого і частих твоїх недуг. | Be no longer a drinker of water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities. |
|
24
|
24
|
| Гріхи деяких людей явні і ведуть до осуду, а деяких відкриваються згодом. | Some men’s sins are evident, going before unto judgment; and some men also they follow after. |
|
25
|
25
|
| Так само і добрі діла явнi; а якщо і не такі, утаїтися не можуть. | In like manner also the good works of some are evident; and such as are otherwise cannot be hidden. |
|
Глава 6
|
Chapter 6
|
|
1
|
1
|
| Раби, що перебувають під ярмом, повинні вважати господарів своїх достойними всякої чести, щоб не було хули на ім’я Боже і вчення. | Let as many as are servants under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name of God and the doctrine be not blasphemed. |
|
2
|
2
|
| Ті, які мають господарів вірних, не повинні поводитися з ними недбало, бо вони браття; але тим більше повинні служити їм, що вони вірні і улюблені і благодіють їм. Hавчай цього і умовляй. | And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but let them serve them the rather, because they that partake of the benefit are believing and beloved. These things teach and exhort. |

| А коли хто навчає інакше і не дотримується розумних слів Господа нашого Ісуса Христа і вчення про побожність, | If any man teacheth a different doctrine, and consenteth not to sound words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; |
|

|
4
|
| той гордий, нічого не знає, але заражений пристрастю до змагань і суперечок, від яких походять заздрість, чвари, лихомовство, лукаві підозри. | he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but doting about questionings and disputes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, |
|

|

|
| Пусті суперечки між людьми з ушкодженим розумом, які позбавлені істини і думають, ніби побожність служить для прибутку. Віддаляйся від таких. | constant friction of men corrupted in mind and bereft of the truth, supposing that godliness is a way of gain: from such withdraw thyself. |
|

|
| Велике надбання — бути побожним і задоволеним. | But godliness with contentment is great gain: |
|
7
|
7
|
| Бо ми нічого не принесли у світ: явно, що нічого не можемо і винести з нього. | for we brought nothing into the world: it is evident that neither can we carry anything out; |
|
8
|
8
|
| Маючи їжу й одяг, будьмо задоволені тим. | but having food and covering we shall be therewith content. |
|
9
|
9
|
| А хто бажає збагачуватися‚ впадає у спокусу і в тенета і в багато які безрозсудні і шкідливі похоті, що приводять людей до бідування і загибелi; | But they that are minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition. |

| бо корінь усього лихого є сріблолюбство, віддавшись якому, деякі ухилилися від віри і самі себе віддали багатьом скорботам. | For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil: which some reaching after have been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows. |
|

|
11
|
| Ти ж, чоловіче Божий, тікай від цього, досягай успіхів у правді, побожності, вірі, любові, терпінні, лагідності. | But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. |
|

|
12
|
| Змагайся добрим подвигом віри, тримайся вічного життя, до якого ти і покликаний, і сповідував добре сповідання перед багатьма свідками. | Fight the good fight of the faith, lay hold on the life eternal, whereunto thou wast called, and didst confess the good confession in the sight of many witnesses. |
|

| Заповідаю тобі перед Богом, що все животворить, і перед Христом Ісусом, Який засвідчив перед Понтієм Пилатом добре сповідання, | I charge thee in the sight of God, who giveth life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed the good confession; |
|

|
| дотримуватися заповіді чисто і бездоганно, навіть до явлення Господа нашого Ісуса Христа, | that thou keep the commandment, without spot, without reproach, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: |
|
15
|
15
|
| яке у свій час відкриє блаженний і єдиний сильний Цар царюючих і Господь пануючих, | which in its own times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; |
|
16
|
16
|
| єдиний, Який має безсмертя і живе у неприступному світлі, Якого ніхто з людей не бачив і бачити не може. Йому честь і держава вічна! Амінь. | who only hath immortality, dwelling in light unapproachable; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power eternal. Amen. |

| щоб вони благодіяли, багатіли добрими ділами, були щедрі і радо ділилися, | that they do good, that they be rich in good works, that they be ready to distribute, willing to communicate; |
