Глава 6	Chapter 6

І сказали сини пророків Єлисеєві: ось, місце, де ми живемо при тобі, тісне для нас;	And the sons of the prophets said to Elisaie, Behold now, the place wherein we dwell before thee is too narrow for us.
2	2
підемо до Йордану і візьмемо звідти кожен по одній колоді і зробимо собі там місце для житла. Він сказав: підіть.	Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and make for ourselves a habitation there.

І сказав один: зроби милість, піди і ти з рабами твоїми. І сказав він: піду.	And he said, Go. And one of them said gently, Come with thy servants. And he said, I will go.
4	4
І пішов з ними, і прийшли до Йордану і стали рубати дерева.	And he went with them, and they came to Jordan, and began to cut down wood.
5	5
І коли один валив колоду, сокира його впала у воду. І закричав він і сказав: ох, господарю мій! а вона була позичена!	And behold, one was cutting down a beam, and the axe head fell into the water: and he cried out, Alas! master: and it was hidden.

І сказав чоловік Божий: де вона впала? Він показав йому місце. І відрубав він шматок дерева і кинув туди, і сплила сокира.	And the man of God said, Where did it fall? and he shewed him the place: and he broke off a stick, and threw it in there, and the iron came to the surface.

І сказав він: візьми собі. Він простягнув руку свою і взяв її.	And he said, Take it up to thyself. And he stretched out his hand, and took it.

Цар Сирійський пішов війною на ізраїльтян, і радився зі слугами своїми, говорячи: у такому-то й у такому-то місці я розташую свій стан.	And the king of Syria was at war with Israel: and he consulted with his servants, saying, I will encamp in such a place.

І посилав чоловік Божий до царя Ізраїльського сказати: бережися проходити цим місцем, тому що там сиріяни залягли.	And Elisaie sent to the king of Israel, saying, Take heed that thou pass not by that place, for the Syrians are hidden there.

І посилав цар Ізраїльський на те місце, про яке говорив йому чоловік Божий і застерігав його; і зберіг себе там не раз і не два.	And the king of Israel sent to the place which Elisaie mentioned to him, and saved himself thence not once or twice.
11	11
І збентежилося серце царя Сирійського з цього приводу, і покликав він рабів своїх і сказав їм: скажіть мені, хто з наших у зносинах з царем Ізраїльським?	And the mind of the king of Syria was very much disturbed concerning this thing; and he called his servants, and said to them, Will ye not tell me who betrays me to the king of Israel?

І сказав один із слуг його: ніхто, господарю мій царю; а Єлисей пророк, який у Ізраїля, переказує цареві Ізраїльському і ті слова, що ти говориш у спальній кімнаті твоїй.	And one of his servants said, Nay, my Lord, O king, for Elisaie the prophet that is in Israel reports to the king of Israel all the words whatsoever thou mayest say in thy bedchamber.

І сказав він: підіть, дізнайтеся, де він; я пошлю і візьму його. І донесли йому і сказали: ось, він у Дофаїмі.	And he said, Go, see where this man is, and I will send and take him. And they sent word to him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothaim.

І послав туди коней і колісниці і багато війська. І прийшли вночі й оточили місто.	And he sent thither horses, and chariots, and a mighty host: and they came by night, and compassed about the city.
15	15
Вранці слуга чоловіка Божого встав і вийшов; і ось, військо навколо міста, і коні і колісниці. І сказав йому слуга його: горе нам! господарю мій, що нам робити?	And the servant of Elisaie rose up early and went out; and, behold, a host compassed the city, and horses and chariots: and the servant said to him, O master, what shall we do?

І сказав він: не бійся, тому що тих, які з нами, більше, ніж тих, які з ними.	And Elisaie said, Fear not, for they who are with us are more than they that are with them.

І молився Єлисей, і говорив: Господи! відкрий йому очі, щоб він побачив. І відкрив Господь очі слузі, і він побачив, і ось, уся гора наповнена конями і колісницями вогненними навкруги Єлисея.	And Elisaie prayed, and said, Lord, open, I pray thee, the eyes of the servant, and let him see. And the Lord opened his eyes, and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses, and there were chariots of fire round about Elisaie.

Коли пішли до нього сиріяни, Єлисей помолився Господу і сказав: уразь їх сліпотою. І Він уразив їх сліпотою за словом Єлисея.	And they came down to him; and he prayed to the Lord, and said, Smite, I pray thee, this people with blindness. And he smote them with blindness, according to the word of Elisaie.

І сказав їм Єлисей: це не та дорога і не те місто; йдіть за мною, і я проведу вас до тієї людини, яку ви шукаєте. І привів їх у Самарію.	And Elisaie said to them, This is not the city, and this is not the way: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. And he led them away to Samaria.

Коли вони прийшли у Самарію, Єлисей сказав: Господи! відкрий очі їм, щоб вони бачили. І відкрив Господь очі їхні, і побачили, що вони всередині Самарії.	And it came to pass when they entered into Samaria, that Elisaie said, Open, I pray thee, O Lord, their eyes, and let them see. And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

І сказав цар Ізраїльський Єлисеєві, побачивши їх: чи не побити їх, батьку мій?	And the king of Israel said to Elisaie, when he saw them, Shall I not verily smite them, my father?
22	22
І сказав він: не вбивай. Хіба мечем твоїм і луком твоїм ти полонив їх, щоб убивати їх? Запропонуй їм хліба і води; нехай їдять і п’ють, і підуть до господаря свого.	And he said, Thou shalt not smite them, unless thou wouldest smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow: set bread and water before them, and let them eat and drink, and depart to their master.

І приготував їм великий обід, і вони їли і пили. І відпустив їх, і пішли до господаря свого. І не ходили більше ті полчища сирійські в землю Ізраїлеву.	And he set before them a great feast, and they ate and drank: and he dismissed them, and they departed to their master. And the bands of Syria came no longer into the land of Israel.

Після того зібрав Венадад, цар Сирійський, усе військо своє і виступив, і обложив Самарію.	And it came to pass after this, that the son of Ader king of Syria gathered all his army, and went up, and besieged Samaria.
25	25
І був великий голод у Самарії, коли вони облягли її, так що осляча голова продавалася за вісімдесят сиклів срібла, і четверта частина каба голубиного посліду — по п’ять сиклів срібла.	And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was valued at fifty pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung at five pieces of silver.

Один раз цар Ізраїльський проходив по стіні, і жінка з криком говорила йому: допоможи, господарю мій царю.	And the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, and a woman cried to him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.

І сказав він: якщо не допоможе тобі Господь, з чого я допоможу тобі? чи з току, а чи з точила?	And he said to her, Unless the Lord help thee, whence shall I help thee? from the corn-floor, or from the wine-press?

І сказав їй цар: що тобі? І сказала вона: ця жінка говорила мені: «віддай свого сина, ми з’їмо його сьогодні, а сина мого з’їмо завтра».	And the king said to her, What is the matter with thee? And the woman said to him, This woman said to me, Give thy son, and we will eat him to-day, and we will eat my son to-morrow.

І зварили ми мого сина, і з’їли його. І я сказала їй на другий день: «віддай же твого сина, і з’їмо його». Але вона сховала свого сина.	So we boiled my son, and ate him; and I said to her on the second day, Give thy son, and let us eat him: and she has hidden her son.

Цар, вислухавши слова жінки, роздер одяг свій: і проходив він по стіні, і народ бачив, що веретище на самому тілі його.	And it came to pass, when the king of Israel heard the words of the woman, that he rent his garments; and he passed by on the wall, and the people saw sackcloth within upon his flesh.
31	31
І сказав: нехай те і те зробить мені Бог, і ще більше зробить, якщо залишиться голова Єлисея, сина Сафатового, на ньому сьогодні.	And he said, God do so to me and more also, if the head of Elisaie shall stand upon him this day.
32	32
Єлисей же сидів у своєму домі, і старці сиділи в нього. І послав [цар] людину від себе. Раніше, ніж прийшов посланий до нього, він сказав старцям: чи бачите, що цей син убивці послав зняти з мене голову? Дивіться, коли прийде посланий, зачиніть двері і притисніть його дверима. А ось і тупіт ніг господаря його за ним!	And Elisaie was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him; and the king sent a man before him: before the messenger came to him, he also said to the elders, Do ye see that this son of a murderer has sent to take away my head? See, as soon as the messenger shall have come, shut the door, and forcibly detain him at the door: is not the sound of his master's feet behind him?

Ще говорив він з ними, і ось посланий приходить до нього, і говорить: ось яка біда від Господа! чого мені надалі чекати від Господа?	While he was yet speaking with them, behold, a messenger came to him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the Lord; why should I wait for the Lord any longer?
