| Симон Петро, раб і апостол Ісуса Христа, тим, хто прийняв з нами однаково дорогоцінну віру в правді Бога нашого і Спасителя Ісуса Христа: | Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: |

| благодать і мир вам нехай помножиться в пізнанні Бога і Христа Ісуса, Господа нашого. | Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; |
|

|
3
|
| Тому що від Божественної сили Його даровано нам усе потрібне для життя і благочестя, через пізнання Того, Хто покликав нас славою та чеснотою, | seeing that his divine power hath granted unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us through glory and virtue; |
|

|
4
|
| якими даровані нам великі й дорогоцінні обітниці, щоб ви через них стали причасниками Божого єства, віддалившись від пануючого в світі розтління похіттю: | whereby he hath granted unto us his precious and exceeding great promises; that through these ye may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world by lust. |

| ви ж, докладаючи до цього всю старанність, покажіть у вашій вірі чесноту, в чесноті розсудливість, | Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply virtue; and in your virtue knowledge; |
|

|
| в розсудливості стриманість, у стриманості терпіння, у терпінні благочестя, | and in your knowledge self-control; and in your self-control patience; and in your patience godliness; |
|

|
7
|
| в благочесті братолюбство, у братолюбстві любов. | and in your godliness brotherly kindness; and in your brotherly kindness love. |
|

|
8
|
| Якщо це у вас є і примножується, то ви не залишитесь без успіху і плоду в пізнанні Господа нашого Ісуса Христа. | For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful unto the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
|

|
| А в кого цього немає, той сліпий, закрив очі, забув про очищення давніх гріхів своїх. | For he that lacketh these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins. |
|

|
10
|
| Тому, браття, усе більше і більше старайтесь утверджувати ваше покликання та обрання; так діючи, ви ніколи не спіткнетесь, | Wherefore, brethren, give the more diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never stumble: |
|

11
|
| бо так відкриється для вас вільний вхід до вічного Царства Господа нашого і Спасителя Ісуса Христа. | for thus shall be richly supplied unto you the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. |
|

|
| Заради того я ніколи не перестану нагадувати вам про це, хоч і ви знаєте і утверджені у справжній істині. | Wherefore I shall not neglect to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and are established in the truth which is with you. |
|

|
| Справедливим же вважаю, доки перебуваю в цьому тілі, спонукати вас нагадуванням, | And I think it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; |
|

|
14
|
| знаючи, що я незабаром повинен покинути оселю мою, як і Господь наш Ісус Христос відкрив мені. | knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle cometh swiftly, even as our Lord Jesus Christ signified unto me. |
|

|
15
|
| Буду ж старатися, щоб ви і по відході моїм пам’ятали це. | Yea, I will give diligence that at every time ye may be able after my decease to call these things to remembrance. |
|

|
16
|
| Бо ми сповістили вам силу і пришестя Господа нашого Ісуса Христа, не йдучи за хитромудрими байками, а бувши очевидцями Його величі. | For we did not follow cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. |

| Бо Він прийняв від Бога Отця честь і славу, коли від величної слави дійшов до Hього такий голос: «Цей є Син Мій улюблений, у Якому Моє благовоління». | For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there was borne such a voice to him by the Majestic Glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: |

| І цей голос, що зійшов з небес, ми чули, перебуваючи з Hим на горі святій. | and this voice we ourselves heard borne out of heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount. |
|

|
| До того ж маємо найдостовірніше пророче слово; і ви добре робите, коли звертаєтесь до нього, як до світильника, що сяє у темному місці, доки не почне розвиднятися день і не засяє зірниця у серцях ваших. | And we have the word of prophecy made more sure; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the daystar arise in your hearts: |

| Знайте насамперед те, що ніяке пророцтво в Писанні не залежить від власного вирішення. | knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of private interpretation. |
|

|
| Бо ніколи не було пророцтва з людської волі, а промовляли його святі Божі люди, натхнені Духом Святим. | For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but holy men of God spake, being moved by the Holy Spirit. |
|
Глава 2
|
Chapter 2
|

|
| Були і лжепророки серед людей, як і у вас будуть лжевчителі, які внесуть згубні єресі і, відрікшись від Владики, Який відкупив їх, накличуть на себе скору погибель. | But there arose false prophets also among the people, as among you also there shall be false teachers, who shall privily bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. |

|
| І багато наслідують їхню розпусту‚ і через них дорога істини буде в ганьбі. | And many shall follow their lascivious doings; by reason of whom the way of the truth shall be evil spoken of. |
|

|
| І через користолюбство будуть ловити вас облесливими словами; суд їм давно готовий‚ і загибель їхня не дрімає. | And in covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose sentence now from of old lingereth not, and their destruction shall not slumber. |
|

|
| Бо якщо Бог не помилував ангелів, які згрішили, а, зв’язавши путами пекельної темряви, віддав зберігати їх на суд для покарання; | For if God spared not angels when they sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; |
|

|

|
| і якщо не пощадив першого світу, а у восьми душах зберіг родину Hоя, проповідника правди, коли навів потоп на світ нечестивих; | and spared not the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; |
|

|
6
|
| і якщо міста Содом та Гоморру, засудивши на знищення, спопелив, показавши приклад майбутнім нечестивцям, | and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, having made them an example unto those that should live ungodly; |
|

|
| а праведного Лота, змученого людьми шаленої розпусти, визволив‚ — | and delivered righteous Lot, sore distressed by the lascivious life of the wicked |
|

|
8
|
| бо цей праведник, живучи серед них, бачив і чув беззаконні діла їхні і тим щодня мучив свою праведну душу, — | (for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their lawless deeds): |
|

|
| то, звичайно, знає Господь, як визволяти благочестивих від спокуси, а беззаконників тримати на день суду, для покарання, | the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment unto the day of judgment; |
|

|
10
|
| а найпаче тих, що йдуть услід за гидкою похіттю плотською, зневажають начальства, зухвалі, самодогідливі, не бояться злословити вищих, | but chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of defilement, and despise dominion. Daring, self-willed, they tremble not to rail at dignities: |
|

| тоді як і ангели, перевершуючи їх міццю і силою, не промовляють на них перед Господом докірливого суду. | whereas angels, though greater in might and power, bring not a railing judgment against them before the Lord. |
|

|
| Вони, як безмовні тварини, що за своєю природою призначені на виловлення та знищення, лихословлячи те, чого не розуміють, у розтлінні своєму знищаться, | But these, natural creatures without reason, made to be taken and destroyed, railing in matters whereof they are ignorant, shall in their destroying surely be destroyed, |

| вони одержать відплату за беззаконня; бо вони вважають насолодою повсякденну розкіш; сквернителі та соромітники, вони насолоджуються своєю оманою, бенкетуючи з вами; | receiving the hire of wrongdoing; men that count it pleasure to revel in the daytime, spots and blemishes, reveling in their deceivings while they feast with you; |

|
| очі у них сповнені блудодіяння і безперестанного гріха, вони зваблюють душі неутвердженi; серце їхнє привчене до користолюбства, це — сини прокляття. | having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; enticing unsteadfast souls; having a heart exercised in covetousness; children of cursing; |

| Залишивши прямий шлях, вони заблукали, йдучи слідом за Валаамом, сином Восоровим, який полюбив мзду неправедну, | forsaking the right way, they went astray, having followed the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the hire of wrongdoing; |
|

16
|
| але був викритий у своєму беззаконні: безсловесна ослиця, промовивши людським голосом, спинила безумство пророка. | but he was rebuked for his own transgression: a dumb ass spake with man’s voice and stayed the madness of the prophet. |
|

|
| Це безводні джерела, імла та хмари, що їх жене вітер; для них приготований морок вічної темряви. | These are springs without water, clouds driven by a storm; for whom the blackness of darkness hath been reserved forever. |
|

18
|
| Бо, висловлюючи надуте пустослів’я, вони ловлять у плотські похоті і розпусту усіх, які ледве відстали від тих‚ що живуть в омані. | For, uttering great swelling words of vanity, they entice in the lusts of the flesh, by lascivious doings, those who had truly escaped from them that live in error; |

| Обіцяють їм волю, будучи самі рабами тління; бо хто ким буває переможений, той тому і раб. | promising them liberty, while they themselves are bondservants of corruption; for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he also brought into bondage. |
|

|
| Бо якщо, позбавившись скверни світу через пізнання Господа і Спасителя нашого Ісуса Христа, вони знов заплутуються в ній і перемагаються нею, то останнє буває для них гірше за перше. | For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein and overcome, the last state is become worse with them than the first. |

| Краще було б їм не пізнати дороги правди, ніж, пізнавши її, повернутися назад від переданої їм святої заповіді. | For it were better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered unto them. |
|

|
| Але з ними трапляється за правдивим прислів’ям: «пес повертається до своєї блювотини» і «помита свиня йде валятися в багно». | But it hath happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog turning to his own vomit again, and the sow that had washed to wallowing in the mire. |
|
Глава 3
|
Chapter 3
|

|
| Це вже друге послання пишу вам, улюбленi; в них нагадуванням збуджую ваше чисте розуміння, | This is now, beloved, the second epistle that I write unto you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by putting you in remembrance; |
|

|

|
| щоб ви пам’ятали слова, раніше сказані святими пророками, і заповідь Господа і Спасителя, передану апостолами вашими. | that ye should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles: |
|

|
| Hасамперед знайте, що в останні дні прийдуть зухвалі хулителі, які чинитимуть за своїми похотями | knowing this first, that in the end of days mockers shall come, walking after their own lusts, |
|

|
4
|
| і казатимуть: «Де обітниця пришестя Його? Бо з того часу, як почали вмирати батьки, від початку творіння, все залишається так само». | and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. |
|

5
|
| Ті, котрі так думають, не знають, що небеса були споконвіку‚ і земля створена була Словом Божим з води і водою; | For this they willfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth compacted out of water and amidst water, by the word of God; |
|

|
6
|
| тому і тодішній світ загинув, затоплений водою. | by which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: |
|
7
|
7
|
| А нинішні небеса і земля, які утримуються тим же словом, зберігаються для вогню на день суду і погибелі нечестивих людей. | but the heavens that now are, and the earth, by his word have been stored up, reserved for fire against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. |
|

|
8
|
| Єдине ж не повинно бути приховане від вас, улюблені, що у Господа один день, як тисяча років, і тисяча років, як один день. | But forget not this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. |
|

|
9
|
| Hе зволікає Господь з виконанням обітниці, як деякі вважають те зволіканням; але довготерпить заради нас, не бажаючи, щоб хто загинув, а щоб усі прийшли до покаяння. | The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. |

|
| Прийде ж день Господній, як тать уночі, і тоді небеса з шумом перейдуть, а стихії, розпалившись, зруйнуються, земля і всі діла на ній згорять. | But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are therein shall be burned up. |

| Якщо так усе це зруйнується, то якими слід бути у святому житті і благочесті вам, | Seeing then that these things are all to be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy living and godliness, |
|

|
| що чекають і бажають пришестя дня Божого, коли розпалені небеса зруйнуються і розпалені стихії розтопляться? | looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? |
|

|
13
|
| А втім, за Його обітницею, ми чекаємо нового неба і нової землі, на яких живе правда. | But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. |
|
14
|
14
|
| Отже, улюблені, чекаючи цього, постарайтесь стати перед Hим неоскверненими і непорочними в мирi; | Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for these things, give diligence that ye may be found in peace, without spot and blameless in his sight. |
|

15
|
| і довготерпіння Господа нашого вважайте спасінням, як і улюблений брат наш Павло, за даною йому премудрістю‚ написав вам, | And account that the long-suffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote unto you; |
|

|
| як він говорить про все це і в усіх своїх посланнях, у яких є дещо малозрозуміле, так що неуки і нестійкі перекручують, як і інші Писання, на свою власну погибель. | as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; wherein are some things hard to be understood, which the ignorant and unsteadfast wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. |

| Отже, ви, улюблені, будучи попередженими про це, бережіться, щоб не спокуситися вам оманою беззаконників і не відпасти від свого утвердження, | Ye therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware lest, being carried away with the error of the wicked, ye fall from your own steadfastness. |

|
| але зростайте в благодаті і пізнанні Господа нашого і Спасителя Ісуса Христа. Йому слава і нині і в день вічний. Амінь. | But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. |
