| Петро, апостол Ісуса Христа, пришельцям, розсіяним у Понті, Галатії, Каппадокії, Асії й Вифинії, | Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the elect who are sojourners of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, |

| обраним, за передбаченням Бога Отця і освяченням Духа, на послушання і окроплення Кров’ю Ісуса Христа: благодать вам і мир нехай примножаться. | according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied. |

| Благословен Бог і Отець Господа нашого Ісуса Христа, Який з великої Своєї милости відродив нас воскресінням Ісуса Христа з мертвих для живого уповання‚ | Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy begat us again unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, |

| для спадщини нетлінної, чистої, нев’янучої, яка зберігається на небесах для вас, | unto an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, |
|

|
| яких сила Божа через віру охороняє для спасіння, що готове відкритися в останній час. | who by the power of God are guarded through faith unto a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. |
|

|

|
| Цьому радійте, посумувавши тепер трохи, якщо треба, від різних спокус, | Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, ye have been put to grief in manifold trials, |
|

|
7
|
| щоб випробувана віра ваша виявилася коштовнішою за золото, що гине, хоч і очищається вогнем, на похвалу і честь і славу під час об’явлення Ісуса Христа, | that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold that perisheth though it is proved by fire, may be found unto praise and honor and unto glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ: |

| Якого, не бачивши, любите, і в Якого віруєте, хоч донині не бачили, і радієте радістю невимовною і преславною, | whom not having known ye love; on whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory: |
|

|

|
| досягаючи, нарешті, вірою вашою спасіння душ. | receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. |
|

|
10
|
| Цього-то спасіння стосувалися шукання і дослідження пророків, які провіщали про визначену вам благодать, | Concerning which salvation the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: |
|

|
| досліджуючи, на котрий чи на який час указував сущий в них Дух Христа, провіщаючи спочатку Христові страждання і наступну за ними славу. | searching what time or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did point unto, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that should follow them. |

| Їм же було відкрито, що не їм самим, а нам служило те, що нині проповідане вам Духом Святим через благовісників, посланих із неба, у що бажають проникнути ангели. | To whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto you, did they minister these things, which now have been announced unto you through them that preached the gospel unto you by the Holy Spirit sent forth from heaven; which things angels desire to look into. |

| Тому, улюблені, підперезавши стегна розуму вашого, пильнуючи, майте досконалу надію на благодать, що подається вам у явленні Ісуса Христа. | Wherefore girding up the loins of your mind, be sober and set your hope perfectly on the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; |

| Як слухняні діти, не потурайте похотям, що були в час вашого невідання, | as children of obedience, not fashioning yourselves according to your former lusts in the time of your ignorance: |
|

|
15
|
| але, за прикладом Святого, Який покликав вас, і самі будьте святі в усіх вчинках. | but like as he who called you is holy, be ye yourselves also holy in all manner of living; |
|
16
|
16
|
| Бо написано: «Будьте святі — Я бо святий». | because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. |
|

|

|
| І якщо ви називаєте Отцем того, Який, не зважаючи на особу, судить кожного по ділах, то зі страхом проводьте час мандрування вашого, | And if ye call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to each man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning in fear: |
|

|
18
|
| знаючи, що не тлінним сріблом або золотом визволені ви від суєтного життя, переданого вам від батьків, | knowing that ye were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers; |
|
19
|
19
|
| а дорогоцінною Кров’ю Христа, як непорочного і чистого Агнця, | but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, even the blood of Christ: |
|
20
|
20
|
| призначеного ще раніше створення світу, але явленого останнім часом для вас, | who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was manifested at the last times for your sake, |
|
21
|
21
|
| що увірували через Hього в Бога, Який воскресив Його з мертвих і дав Йому славу, щоб ви мали віру і уповання на Бога. | who through him do believe in God, that raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God. |
|

|
22
|
| Послухом істині через Духа, очистивши душі ваші для нелицемірного братолюбства, постійно любіть один одного від чистого серця, | Seeing ye have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, love one another from a clean heart fervently: |
|

|
23
|
| як відроджені не від тлінного насіння, а від нетлінного, від Слова Бога Живого, Який перебуває повік. | having been begotten again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever. |
|

|
24
|
| Бо всяка плоть як трава, і всяка слава людська як цвіт на травi; як засохне трава, і цвіт її одпаде; | For, All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth: |
|

|
25
|
| Слово ж Господнє перебуває повік; а це є те Слово, яке проповідане вам. | But the word of the Lord abideth forever. And this is the word of good tidings which was preached unto you. |
|
Глава 2
|
Chapter 2
|

|
| Отже, відклавши всяку злобу, і всяке лукавство, і лицемірство, і заздрість, і всяке лихослів’я, | Putting away therefore all wickedness, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, |
|

|
2
|
| як новонароджені немовлята, полюбіть чисте словесне молоко, щоб від нього вирости вам на спасіння; | as newborn babes, long for the spiritual milk which is without guile, that ye may grow thereby unto salvation; |
|
3
|
3
|
| бо ви пізнали, що благий Господь. | if so be that ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious: |
|

|
4
|
| Приступаючи до Hього, каменя живого, людьми відкинутого, а Богом обраного, коштовного, | unto whom coming, a living stone, rejected indeed of men, but with God elect, precious, |
|
5
|
5
|
| і самі, мов живе каміння, будуйте з себе дім духовний, святе священство, щоб приносити духовні жертви, приємні Богові, через Ісуса Христа. | ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. |

| Бо сказано в Писанні: «Ось Я кладу в Сионі камінь наріжний, обраний, дорогоцінний; і віруючий у Hього не осоромиться». | Because it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious: And he that believeth on him shall not be put to shame. |

| Отже, Він для вас, віруючих, коштовність, а для невіруючих камінь, який відкинули будівничі, але який став наріжним каменем, каменем спотикання і каменем спокуси, | For you therefore that believe is the preciousness: but unto them that are disobedient, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner; |

| об який вони спотикаються, не підкоряючись слову, на що вони й призначені були. | and, A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense; for they stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. |
|

|
| А ви — рід обраний, царствене священство, народ святий, люди відновлення, поставлені для того, щоб сповіщати чесноти Того, Хто покликав вас із темряви у чудове Своє світло; | But ye are an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that ye may show forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: |

|
| колись не народ, а нині народ Божий; колись непомилувані, а нині помилувані. | who in time past were no people, but now are the people of God: who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. |
|

|
| Улюблені! Прошу вас, як пришельців і подорожніх, сторонитися тілесних похотей, які повстають проти душі, | Beloved, I beseech you as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; |
|

|
12
|
| і провадити доброчесне життя ваше між язичниками, щоб вони за те, що лихословлять на вас, як злочинців, побачивши добрі діла ваші, прославили Бога в день відвідання. | having your behavior seemly among the Gentiles; that, wherein they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. |

| Отже, будьте покірні всякому людському начальству заради Господа: чи царевi‚ як верховній владі, | Be subject therefore to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether to the king, as supreme; |
|

|
14
|
| чи правителям‚ як від Hього посланим для покарання злочинців і для похвали тим, хто робить добро, — | or unto governors, as sent by him for vengeance on evildoers and for praise to them that do well. |
|
15
|
15
|
| бо така є воля Божа, щоб ми, роблячи добро, закривали вуста неуцтву нерозумних людей, — | For so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: |
|

|
16
|
| як вільні, не як ті, хто використовує свободу для прикриття зла, але як раби Божі. | as free, and not using your freedom for a cloak of wickedness, but as bondservants of God. |
|
17
|
17
|
| Усіх шануйте, братство любіть, Бога бійтеся, царя поважайте. | Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king. |
|
18
|
18
|
| Слуги, коріться з усяким страхом господарям, не тільки добрим і лагідним, але й суворим, | Servants, be in subjection to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. |
|
19
|
19
|
| бо те угодне Богові, коли хто, думаючи про Бога, терпить скорботи, страждаючи несправедливо. | For this is acceptable, if for conscience toward God a man endureth griefs, suffering wrongfully. |
|
20
|
20
|
| Бо яка похвала, якщо ви терпите, коли вас б’ють за провини? А якщо, роблячи добро і страждаючи, ви терпите, це угодно Богові. | For what glory is it, if, when ye sin, and are buffeted for it, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye shall take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. |

| Бо ви до цього покликані: тому що і Христос постраждав за нас, залишивши нам приклад, щоб ми йшли по слідах Його. | For hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving you an example, that ye should follow his steps: |
|

|
| Він не вчинив ніякого гріха, і не було лукавства в устах Його. | who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: |
|

|
23
|
| Коли Його лихословили, Він не лихословив взаємно; страждаючи, не погрожував, а передавав те Судді Праведному. | who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: |
|

|

|
| Він гріхи наші Сам возніс тілом Своїм на дерево, щоб ми, звільнившись від гріхів, жили для правди: ранами Його ви зцілилися. | who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed. |
|

| Бо ви були, як вівці заблукалі, що не мають пастиря, але нині повернулись до Пастиря і Охоронця душ ваших. | For ye were like sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls. |
|

Chapter 3
|

|
| Також і ви, жінки, будьте покірні своїм чоловікам, щоб деякі з них, які хоч і не підкоряються слову, життям своїх жінок без слова приєднувались, | In like manner, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, even if any obey not the word, they shall without the word be gained by the behavior of their wives; |

|
| коли побачать ваше чисте, богобоязне життя. | beholding your chaste behavior coupled with fear. |
|

|
3
|
| Hехай буде прикрасою вашою не зовнішнє — заплітання волосся, золоте вбрання або нарядність в одязі, | Whose adorning let it not be the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on apparel; |
|

|
4
|
| а потаємна людина серця в нетлінній красі лагідного і мовчазного духу, що дорогоцінне перед Богом. | but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible apparel of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. |
|

5
|
| Так колись і святі жінки, покладаючи надію на Бога, прикрашали себе, підкоряючись своїм чоловікам. | For after this manner aforetime the holy women also, who hoped in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands: |
|

|
| Так Сарра підкорялась Авраамові, називаючи його господарем. Ви — діти її, якщо робите добро і не лякаєтесь ніякого страху. | as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose children ye now are, if ye do well, and are not put in fear by any terror. |
|

|
7
|
| Також і ви, чоловіки, поводьтеся розсудливо з жінками, як немічному сосуду, віддаючи їм честь‚ як співспадкоємницям благодатного життя, щоб не було вам перешкод у молитвах. | Ye husbands, in like manner, dwell with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor unto the woman, as unto the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life; to the end that your prayers be not hindered. |

|
| І нарешті, будьте всі однодумні, милостиві, братолюбні, милосердні, дружелюбні, смиренномудрi; | Finally, be ye all like-minded, compassionate, loving as brethren, tenderhearted, courteous: |
|

|
| не платіть злом за зло або лихослів’ям за лихослів’я; а, навпаки, благословляйте, знаючи, що ви на це покликані, щоб успадкувати благословення. | not rendering evil for evil, or reviling for reviling; but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye were hereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. |

| Бо, хто хоче любити життя і бачити добрі дні, той нехай стримує язик свій від зла і вуста свої від лукавих слів; | For, He that would love life, And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips that they speak no guile: |
|

| ухиляйся від зла і твори добро; шукай миру і прагни його, | Let him turn away from evil, and do good; Let him seek peace, and pursue it. |
|

|

|
| бо очі Господні звернені до праведних, і вуха Його — до молитви їхньої, а лице Господнє проти тих, хто чинить зло‚ щоб їх винищити із землі. | For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, And his ears unto their supplication: But the face of the Lord is upon them that do evil. |
|

|
| І хто заподіє вам зло, якщо ви будете ревнителями доброго? | And who is he that will harm you, if ye become imitators of that which is good? |
|

|
14
|
| Але коли ви і страждаєте за правду, ви блаженнi; а страху їхнього не бійтеся і не тривожтеся. | But even if ye should suffer for righteousness’ sake, blessed are ye: and fear not their fear, neither be troubled; |
|
15
|
15
|
| Господа Бога святіть у серцях ваших; завжди будьте готові всім, хто домагається від вас звіту про ваше уповання, дати відповідь із лагідністю і благоговінням. | but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give answer to every man that asketh you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear: |

| Майте добру совість, щоб тим самим, за що лихословлять на вас, як злочинців, були осоромлені ті, які ганьблять ваше добре життя в Христі. | having a good conscience; that, wherein they speak against you as evildoers, they may be put to shame who revile your good manner of life in Christ. |
|

|
| Бо коли на те воля Божа, то краще постраждати за добрі діла, ніж за злi; | For it is better, if the will of God should so will, that ye suffer for well-doing than for evildoing. |
|

|
18
|
| тому що і Христос, щоб привести нас до Бога, один раз постраждав за гріхи наші, Праведник за неправедних, бувши умертвлений тілом, але оживши Духом, | Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; |

| Яким Він і тим духам, що перебували у темниці, зійшовши, проповідав, | in which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison, |
|

|

|
| які колись противилися Божому довготерпінню, що очікувало їх за днів Hоя, коли будувався ковчег, у якому небагато, тобто вісім душ, спаслося від води. | that aforetime were disobedient, when the long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water: |

| Так і нас нинi‚ подібно до цього образу, хрещення, не обмивання тілесної нечистоти, а обіцяння Богові доброї совісти, спасає воскресінням Ісуса Христа, | which also after a true likeness doth now save us, even baptism, not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the interrogation of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ; |

| Який, зійшовши на небо, перебуває праворуч Бога і Якому скорились ангели, і влади, і сили. | who is on the right hand of God, having gone into heaven; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him. |
|
Глава 4
|
Chapter 4
|
|
1
|

|
| Отже, як Христос постраждав за нас тілом, так і ви озбройтеся тією самою думкою; бо хто страждає тілом, перестає грішити, | Forasmuch then as Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm ye yourselves also with the same mind; for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; |

| щоб останній час життя в тілі жити вже не за людськими похотями, а за волею Божою. | that ye no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. |
|

|
3
|
| Бо досить, що ви в минулому житті виконували волю язичників, перебуваючи в розпусті, похотях‚ мужолозтві, скотолозтві, помислах, пияцтві, безчинному бенкетуванні, хабарництві й богомерзенних ідолослужіннях; | For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, winebibbings, revelings, carousings, and abominable idolatries: |

|
| тому вони й дивуються, що ви не берете участи з ними в цій розпусті, і лихословлять на вас. | wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them into the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: |
|

|
| Вони дадуть відповідь Тому, Хто має судити живих і мертвих. | who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead. |
|

|

|
| Бо на це і мертвим благовістилося, щоб вони, як люди, прийнявши суд людською плоттю, по-Божому жили духом. | For unto this end was the gospel preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. |
|

|
| А втім, близький усьому кінець. Отже, будьте розсудливі і пильнуйте в молитвах. | But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore of sound mind, and be sober unto prayer: |
|

|
| Передусім же майте щиру любов один до одного, бо любов покриває безліч гріхів. | and above all things being fervent in your love among yourselves; for love shall cover a multitude of sins: |
|

|
9
|
| Будьте гостинні один до одного без нарікань. | using hospitality one to another without murmurings: |
|
10
|
10
|
| Служіть один одному, кожен тим даром, який прийняв, як добрі домоправителі різноманітної благодаті Божої. | according as each hath received a gift, ministering it among yourselves, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God; |
|

|
11
|
| Чи говорить хто, говори як слова Божi; чи хто служить, служи по силі, яку дає Бог, щоб у всьому прославлявся Бог Ісусом Христом. Йому ж слава і влада на віки віків. Амінь. | if any man speaketh, speaking as it were oracles of God; if any man ministereth, ministering as of strength as God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. |

| Улюблені! Вогняної спокуси, що посилається вам для випробування, не цурайтеся, ніби пригоди для вас чужої, | Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial among you, which cometh upon you to prove you, as though a strange thing happened unto you: |
|

|
| оскільки ви берете участь у стражданнях Христових, радійте, щоб і в з’явлення слави Його ви зраділи і звеселились. | but insomuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory also ye may rejoice with exceeding joy. |
|

|
14
|
| Якщо лихословлять вас за ім’я Христове, то ви блаженні, бо Дух слави і Дух Божий спочиває на вас. Тими Він ганьбиться, а вами прославляється. | If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; because the Spirit of glory and the Spirit of God resteth upon you: on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified. |

| Тільки б не постраждав хто з вас, як убивця, чи злодій, чи злочинець, або як той, хто зазіхає на чуже; | For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evildoer, or as a meddler in other men’s matters: |
|

|
| а коли як християнин, то не соромся, а прославляй Бога за таку долю. | but if a man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this respect. |
|
17
|
17
|
| Бо час розпочатися судові з дому Божого; а якщо перше почнеться з нас, то який кінець тих, хто противиться Євангелію Божому? | For the time is come for judgment to begin at the house of God: and if it begin first at us, what shall be the end of them that obey not the gospel of God? |
|
18
|
18
|
| І якщо праведник ледве спасається, то нечестивий і грішний де з’явиться? | And if the righteous is scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and sinner appear? |
|
19
|
19
|
| Тому і ті, що страждають з волі Божої, нехай віддадуть Йому, як вірному Творцеві, душі свої, роблячи добро. | Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing, as unto a faithful Creator. |
|

Chapter 5
|

|
| Пастирів ваших благаю я, співпастир, і свідок страждань Христових‚ і співучасник слави, що має відкритися: | The elders that are among you I exhort, who am a fellow elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, who am also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: |
|

|
2
|
| пасіть Боже стадо, яке у вас, доглядаючи його не примусово, а охоче і Боговгодно не для ганебної користи, а щиро; | Tend the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not of constraint, but willingly; nor yet for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; |
|

|
| і не пануючи над спадщиною Божою, а подаючи приклад стадовi; | neither as lording it over the charge allotted to you, but making yourselves examples to the flock. |
|

|
4
|
| і коли з’явиться Пастиреначальник, ви одержите нев’янучий вінець слави. | And when the chief Shepherd shall be manifested, ye shall receive the crown of glory that fadeth not away. |
|

|
5
|
| Також і молодші, будьте покірні пастирям; а всі, покоряючись один одному, одягніться у смиренномудрість, бо Бог гордим противиться, а смиренним дає благодать. | Likewise, ye younger, be subject unto the elder: yea, all of you being subject one to another, gird yourselves with humility: for God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble. |

| Отже, смиріться під міцною рукою Божою, щоб підніс вас свого часу. | Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; |
|

|

| Станьте проти нього міцною вірою, знаючи, що такі самі страждання трапляються і з вашими браттями у світі. | whom withstand steadfast in your faith, knowing that the same sufferings are accomplished in your brethren who are in the world. |

| Бог же всякої благодаті, Який покликав нас до вічної слави Своєї у Христі Ісусі, Сам при короткочасному стражданні вашому нехай удосконалить вас, нехай утвердить, нехай зміцнить і нехай зробить непохитними. | And the God of all grace, who called you unto his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a little while, himself perfect you; he shall establish, strengthen, settle you. |
